My job - Explaining to people from other countries who think they speak my native tongue - that I have a literal degree in - more fluently than I do, that no, in fact, they do not.

At work various people have complained to me that the backroom is kinda cold. I used to tell them that it's because I'm actually receiving or pushing freight or backstocking stuff or climbing ladders and if you're doing that it's the perfect temperature. Now when anyone says it (including the District Manager who was at the store today for a visit) I just loudly say "It's my room I can do what I want!" For one, it's quicker and two it's the absolute truth. Every single person has just nodded and walked away.

So there.

Panics bc what if boss calls to talk and I'm fully sobbing ??

Pull myself together to the best of my ability but feeling like I'll crack at any moment.

Immediately receive a good morning text from boss. He calls and asks me how I'm doing.

Big inhale "doing the best I can, my guy" big exhale. I didn't have enough energy to mask my emotions, shoot.

"Oh no! Are you struggling? :( Is there something you need help with? :(("

"In regards to work? Absolutely not, everything is going great and is moving along! I'm just struggling personally haha :)"

":( unfortunately everyone struggles! Especially towards the end of the week! I'm still shaking out the cobwebs and I'm sure you just need to do that too. Don't worry! It's almost the weekend :)"

Like god, i wish it was as simple as work burnout. Unfortunately, I have had a complex tragedy within the last 24 hours, and I haven't slept. I have yet to figure out how to process my emotions, and if I take even a mere moment to think, I'll be inconsolable. The last thing i want is to have a weekend where I have minimal distractions. I want to be so swamped with work that I can only think about taxes and finances. I want my dreams to involve mathematics and other accounting nonsense. I can't bear facing my actual life right now. I feel like I'm going to vomit on myself. Dread and fear are taking root, and I don't think I'm strong enough to handle all of this.

Lessons to Learn from Yesterday - Four of Cups

This card fell out of the deck while I was shuffling, so I decided to read it. This card validates the cynicism I've been feeling in my day to day regarding work. Yesterday was especially hard, and as my 14-hour day drug on and on, I fell deeper and deeper into apathy about my work. I was unable to accept the good that was there, much as the woman on the card ignores the fourth cup being offered to her.

Preparing for Today - The Tower

Well, shit. For real? I sat down thinking "I hope I don't draw The Tower." And lo and fucking behold. The Tower says to me that sharp, sudden change is in the air today, and either something I've been depending on or the way I experience something is going to be broken or forever altered. The fact I was dreading this card says to me that I may have felt change brewing, though I cannot anticipate what this upheaval may be. Time to buckle in.

Honestly, of the many cards I could've drawn proceeding The Tower, the Page of Wands is a good messenger. She is an explorer, craving the new, and boldly setting forward. EDIT: How do we show appreciation to the volunteers? For me reading these deep dives on OTW issues u guys apparently it's been said multiple times that one of their objective statements is to have paid staff for ao3 and there's a surplus of donations they haven't used up or the other community solutions that needs to address. For those more financially literate feel free to analyze, snipe me or add to the discussion etc. linked here by deepa. They’re cool and these yearly analysis they did aint no joke.
