White Fang by Jack London, 1906, with illustrations by Philippe Munch, 1998.
This edition has a tooooon of little supplemental blurbs and art pieces/photos added, on top of the book-specific art. It's less travel sized but I love all the extra context that's added 💕

Hello! Wolf/wolfdog enthusiast here! I was wondering if you had any books about wolves/wolfdogs that you really recomend? I saw your post about your, jsjs, bank account crying, so i figured you would be a good person to ask! Thank you!
Books on Wolves Masterpost
Hey hey! First off, I don’t have nearly as much books on wolfdogs as I do on wolves, that being said I am saving up for Living with Wolfdogs : An Everyday Guide to a Lifetime Companionship by Nicole Wilde and The Ultimate Guide to Wild Canines, Primitive Dogs, and Pariah Dogs: An Owner's Guide Book for Wolfdogs, Coydogs, and Other Hereditarily Wild Dog Breeds by Marjorie Daley, just to see if they have any helpful info (though I’m a bit skeptical on the whole owning of the animals, but I’m interested to see what it has in store). If anyone has any recommendations on wolfdog books I’d love to hear it!
So this was originally just going to be a quick recommendation post, but I’ve wanted an excuse to talk about the helpful books I’ve read for a while now. So in that case, welcome to a masterpost of wolf books!
1. The Rise of Wolf 8 & The Reign of Wolf 21 (and basically everything by Rick McIntyre)
These books involve real life observations of the life of two wolves (21m and 8m) and their packs. Rick McIntyre has an overwhelming amount of experience of working for the National Park Service in Yellowstone, and has included his findings of wolf behavior, never seen before interactions (he watched the first documented moment of an outside wolf joining a pack as a breeding male, which he includes in the book about wolf 21), etc. The books follow the lives of these amazing animals until they pass and are treasure troves of information that I highly recommend to any wolf lover!
Rick has also written The Redemption of Wolf 302 and a soon to be book on 06! Maybe we’ll get a book on Spitfire in the future?
2. War Against the Wolf: Americas Campaign to Exterminate the Wolf by Rick McIntyre
This book “Offers historical documents and modern articles documenting the evolution of attitudes toward wolves in America from 1630 to 1995, tracing the shift from policies of eradication to protection and re-establishment”. It really does give valuable insight to what wolves have faced over the centuries, but do be warned, wolves have dealt with incredibly gruesome deaths due to humans and if you’re sensitive to this topic you may want to skip this one.
3. A Society of Wolves by (you guessed it) Rick McIntyre
“This revised edition includes a new chapter with text and exclusive photos capturing the first year of the reintroduced Yellowstone National Park wolves. In addition, readers learn about the current wolf recolonization in Glacier National Park, the red wolf reintroduction programs in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in the Southeast, and hoped-for wolf restoration in the Northeast and Southwest.” I personally found quite a bit of information I didn’t know while reading this book. What is it you say? Well I guess you’ll just have to read it!
4. American Wolf by Nate Blakeslee
Okay, get ready to sob when reading this book. Blakeslee tells the story of the famous wolf 06; her life, and death, is shared in this book in detail that will most likely leave you in tears. The author even got to meet with Steve Turnbull, the alias the man who killed 06 uses, and talked with him about 06 and his opinions on wolves themselves. It’s a heart wrenching yet beautiful book that I highly recommend.
5. Decade of the Wolf: Revised and Updated by Douglas W. Smith and Gary Ferguson
This book follows the lives (and deaths) of thirty one gray wolves imported from Canada into Yellowstone in 1995 and 1996. Smith, the leader of the project, and Ferguson tell of the trials and tribulations these animals faced, and if I’m not mistaken they even include the political side of it and how wolves got to the place they are now. 10/10 highly recommend!
6. Wolves on the Hunt by L. David Mech and Douglas W. Smith
The holy grail of hunting books, Smith and Mech have accumulated hundreds of accounts of wolves hunting their prey. This ranges from elk and moose to bighorn and deer, as well as miscellaneous prey like hares or rabbits and more! Although most of wolf hunts end in failure (around 90% to be exact!), this book shows how wolves will last hours to days waiting for a good opening to take down their prey. I absolutely adore this book and it is very, very helpful when studying wolf hunting behavior.
7. Have I mentioned Dave Mech?
L. David Mech is one of the top wolf biologists in the field and has an immense amount of experience working with wolves. Basically any book by him I’d recommend. However, there is one book that you should avoid due to the misinformation on alphas. This is one of his older books, and he himself has asked the publisher to stop printing it, but they won’t listen. I can’t remember the name as of now, but when I do I’ll edit this post to give you a heads up!
Alright, there is a LOT more I could recommend, but I don’t want to make this post too long (maybe there’ll be a part two when I get more books in?) and my internet is being weird and I really don’t want all this to get discarded by accident. So! I hope you all enjoyed this and if there’s any books you guys have read that you think are pretty cool, do tell!

Ranking Vin’s Kills by Level of Awesome
[Major Spoilers for Mistborn Era 1--all books!]
Previously, I ranked Kaladin’s Dramatic Entrances, for he is a boy who loves himself a dramatic entrance. Let’s now turn to a different series and a different character: Vin. Vin may not love killing--despite Zane’s best efforts to the contrary--but she sure does kill a lot, and often quite dramatically. So let’s rank those moments of death by how awesome I found them!
#10: The Wolf Dog :(
TenSoon may be awesome, and Soonie Pups may be adorable, but everyone’s favorite big fluffy wolfdog kandra had a dark beginning. Vin buys a big wolf dog at market, and then kills it so that TenSoon can have the body. It’s just a little bit sad, you know? Definitely not my favorite Vin murder.
#9: All of Keep Hasting
On the one hand, there is something darkly impressive about Zane and Vin simply mowing down the entirety of Keep Hasting while trying to get to Cett--all 300 people. But in the end, it turns out that Cett isn’t an allomancer at all and Zane was just trying to get Vin to love killing more. So in the end, it was just a lot of death to no good purpose (although I suppose Cett does withdraw...).
#8: Inquisitors with Koloss Armies
At the end of Book 1, Kelsier has an epic fight against an Inquisitor, whom he barely manages to defeat. The Inquisitors are presented as basically unkillable, and it is shocking that Kelsier is able to defeat even one. But by Book 3, Elend and Vin are able to go toe to toe with inquisitors, killing them and then taking control of the Koloss armies they commanded on a pretty regular basis. It definitely shows how extremely powerful they’ve become.
#7:  A Koloss Army
In the climax of Book 2, Luthadel is under attack by some twenty-thousand koloss. At this point, Vin’s power has not yet reached the “almost casually kill inquisitors with my husband” levels, and there is a definite sense of horrible inevitability as the koloss gradually kill, well, everyone. But then Vin arrives--just in time to save Sazed’s life. She then uses the entire city gate as a club and just smashes the entire courtyard clear of koloss. I mean, there is some fridge horror here as we later learn that the koloss are just people, but still. It’s quite an epic moment.
#6: Twelve Inquisitors, All At Once
In the climax of Book 3, Vin is attacked by twelve inquisitors and also by Marsh. There’s a gut-wrenching scene of Marsh torturing her by systematically breaking her bones until he is able to wrest back just enough control to rip out her earring, finally freeing her from Ruin’s control. And then Vin is infused by the mists and manages to just...demolish all of inquisitors (other than Marsh) with ease.
#5: Shan Elariel
All of those fights are pretty impressive, but they tend to be against unnamed groups of people (and one wolf puppy 😞). For me, the one-on-one fights aginst named characters are the most awesome. So let’s move into those memorable fights! First up is Shan, Elend’s first fiancee. This is, I believe, one of Vin’s first fights against another Mistborn, and one who also possesses Atium. Vin manages to win by tricking Shan into thinking that her own Atium ran out by extinguishing it early, giving her an edge.
#4: Zane
Speaking of Vin doing interesting things when her opponent has Atium...there’s the Zane fight. Zane has Atium and Vin doesn’t. Vin manages to get a little bit thanks to TenSoon’s help...but it isn’t enough. In the end, Zane is the only one burning Atium, which usually means the other person is toast. But Vin manages to, like, fake out the Atium so that Zane’s own foresight works against him. I don’t 100% understand how she does this, but it is undeniably awesome.
#3: Straff Venture
Listen, Straff is the worst. This fight isn’t epic in turns of being an exciting, blow-by-blow, who-will-win sort of affair. It’s awesome because by this point, I really, REALLY wanted Straff Venture to die already. And then Vin cuts him in half with a giant koloss blade. I mean.
(A shame about the horse, though. 😞 When will Vin stop killing innocent animals?)
#2: The Lord Ruler
It doesn’t get much more impressive than killing the immortal god-king who has been ruling untouched for centuries. But Vin does it. In Book One. After the Lord Ruler rips out her earring, she is able to call upon the mists. She rips out all of his feruchemical bracelets and then just...kills him with a wooden spear.
#1: Ati
But there is one thing more impressive than killing the immortal god-king who has been ruling untouched for centuries. And that’s killing a god--or at least his vessel. Vin becomes god herself when she takes up the shard of Preservation, and then attacks Ruin in a self-sacrificing attack that cancels out their powers, killing them both. I suppose that, ala Kaladin, the only person who could kill Vin was, well, Vin.

ROUND 2 BRACKET A
Tumblr media
Ganymede belongs to @theknifedance
Ruby belongs to @galaxy-pop
Find out more about them below!
Ganymede:
meet spagonia's number one star charter: ganymede the jack! an artic hare who hails from holoska, he's currently studying for an astronomy degree at spagonia university. he might be a bit reclusive, short on friends even, but he's good spirited and gets along well with all the staff on campus. he tends to be out on trips star charting for his coursework and getting to know local cultures of the places he visits. he's very big on art history and likes to keep a scrapbook of all the places and people he discovers.
ganymede likes to keep to himself. despite coming from a big family who are very much social butterflies, they don't find themself needing to seek out company often. he likes alone time and doesn't feel any loneliness from it. his room is a mess, aesthetically so, with tidbits from his travels covering every inch of wall he has. that, and the mass of books he keeps promising to return to the library, though he keeps forgetting. but the university is practically his home, with him rarely visiting family (they definitely keep in touch though!) so as long as they're well kept, the librarian doesn't mind too much.
ganys latest travels has taken him to shamar, in order to get some maps out in the desert. its great! the locals are welcoming and the sky is clearer than he could ever hope for. theres an air of anxiousness among the village though…whispers of a ghost or phantom stalking the desert. it doesn't scare him per say, but the locals always seem worried to watch him go charting, and that makes him a bit nervous. not too nervous though, his new friend ghost (belonging to @jaybearr) and his chao hapi keep him company and on track in the sea of sand, even if he's a bit skittish around them at first, they're hitting it off really well!! there's nothing to really worry about…right?
Ruby:
Ruby is a wolfdog cursed with a beastly form after they, along with their parents, were used to test the effects of Dark Gaia Energy on the mobian body and mind. Though their parents did not survive, they managed to escape and now live with a family of cats who've taken them in as one of their own. She has incredible strength and stamina, heightened senses of smell and hearing, and a sensitivity to Dark Gaia Energy in her environment. She can also take on a form resembling that of a Nightmare (and enemy from Sonic Unleashed) when put under extreme stress.
They are quiet and tend to keep to themselves, but are extremely loyal to those who manage to get close. Despite their appearance, they are empathetic and compassionate to a fault and don't like to take much space. They enjoy spending time in nature, frequenting their local Chao Garden, or working on crafts such as hand-made stuffed toys.

White Fang, by Jack London, 1906
Bought from my local thrift store. This is one of my favorite stories, and one of very few that I remember very well and can even quote passages from. As such, I want to collect just about every copy possible lol, at the least for the varying cover art and any art within the book itself.

I'm curious, do you have like AUs of your own stories and OCs?
I love to make AUs....but mainly only for Red Beans because I love their dynamic the most.
They have like...over 20 of them no lie. I just love making Jack and Nana fall in love in different scenarios.
And instead of awaiting for someone to ask what all of the AUs are-I'MMA JUST LIST THEM HERE AS A SHORT RECESS FROM CURRENTLY WORKING ON COMIC PAGES
Switcheroo: Jack is a lupine, Nana is a farm girl
Genderswap: Jack is a farm gal, Nana is a lupine lad
Parent AU: Everything is the same but Jack and Nana wind up have kids in the future (6 pups specifically)
Reverse moralities AU: Jack and Nana are antagonists instead of protagonists
Amnesia AU: Jack is wacked with a memory loss curse and Nana has to help him regain them as well as their close relationship.
Jukebox Musical: My favorite one-it's just a super simplified version of Beanstalked in a library setting where everyone lives in books in an enchanted library
Modern AU: In Beanstalked's case, this is just what Jack and Nana's earthly lives are since everyone has a Lore self and and Earth self due to Lore being a parallel world.
1920s AU: Jack works at a small bookstore while trying to make it as a novelists and Nana is a club singer he has a crush on
Pacific Rim AU: Jack and Nana pilot a Jaeger and punch Kaiju and kiss a lot.
Fairy Jam AU: ....This is literally just Space Jam but everyone is a Beanstalked character instead.
Fables Don't Dance AU: This is literally just Cats Don't Dance but Jack is Danny and Nana is Sawyer.
Pirate AU: Jack is a cabin boy and Nana is the mermaid who has a crush on him.
Mermaid AU: Jack and Nana are both mermaids.
Little Shop of Horrors AU: Nana is a man eating plant and Jack is the lovestruck shopkeeper who keeps offing people to feed to her.
Demon Slayer AU: Not to be mistaken for the anime of the same title. This is a more Bloodborne-ish AU where Jack is a demon hunter and Nana is the demon who made a contract with him to keep him alive and allow him to use her abilities in battle.
Alien AU: Not to be mistaken for the movie of the same name. Nana is an alien being kept on the ship that Jack works on that Jack has a very obvious crush on.
Slasher AU: Jack is a masked slasher and Nana is the final girl he has had a crush on since they were kids together.
Dragon AU: Jack and Nana are dragons...pretty simple tbh.
Pokemon AU: Jack and Nana are pokemon trainers in a new fairy tale based region.
Beauty and the Beast AU: Just the Disney movie but Nana is Beast and Jack is Belle.
Toy AU: A mash-up of Raggedy Anne's Musical Adventure and Toy Story. Jack is a homemade rag doll and Nana is brand new plushie.
Jackdaw AU: Jack is a bird person and Nana is the one who keeps him safe as he heals from a broken wing.
Halloween Town AU: Jack is the Pumpkin King and Nana is a werewolf. But tbh this is just Nightmare Before Christmas.
Lego: EVERYONE IS A LEGO MINIFIG
Ghost Bride AU: Set in a victorian timeish setting where Jack died prematurely and Nana keeps his heart in a locket on her so he can still linger around her and can fully interact with her. They are happily in love but everyone is scared as hell.
Enchanted AU: Jack winds up popping out of the fairy tale world and into our world where Nana finds him and has to help him get back home
Magic Mike...AU?: I have a list where I wrote all of these down and I found this on it and I am pretty sure this is from after I watched Magic Mike and thought it'd be funny if Jack worked at a club and met Nana after a surprise bachorlette party Ashe threw for her and they just hit it off.
Cat AU: Jack and Nana are cats-Jack is a barn cat and Nana is just a stray.
Dog AU: Jack and Nana are dogs witch Jack working on a farm and Nana being a wolfdog hybrid.
Nymph and Satyr AU: Jack is a forest nymph and Nana is a satyr.
Marvel Cinematic Universe AU: Jack is basically Captain America and Nana is Lieutenant Lupine (a role I made from scratch that is just the fusion of Peggy and Bucky)
I probably missed a few but yeah...I like to spoil Jack and Nana a lot.

I feel like the clans should have to deal with more dangers; the book felt lacking. Like, what about some clans having to deal with poisons left out by humans? Antifreeze tastes sweet so some cats might taste it. Or maybe some people got exotic animals that got out once or twice?
What about bears? That could live in the area due to wandering. What tornadoes forming in Winclan territory? Or Shadowclan having to deal with more sickness due to their area? Rabies would be terrifying but for being outside and exposed it would be a real threat to the clans.
Maybe hunters going into the forest? And so cats having to deal with them in certain seasons? Maybe traps left out by them
Kittypets and loners could at least have more safety in regards to that; many could have been vaccinated, and have shelters they can go to. In the lake there is mentioned to be a farm nearby; have more danger come from animals that lived there; large livestock, guard dogs, equipment farmers use and more. The clans just need more danger
It's definitely weird that we never see animal traps that often. How often do we see Fox snares besides BerryKit losing his tail or FireStar losing one of his lives, and also just like what you said about Antifreeze. AND YOU'RE RIGHT HOLY SHIT, people are fucking stupid with exotic pet trades so how has there not been a wolf accidentally let loose in the Clans, imagine if the Dog Pack in TPB was a pack of Wolfdogs that escaped their owner's backyard exotic pet kennel, or at the very least how come the leader of the Dog Pack wasn't a Wolfdog.
When it comes to bears though, that actually makes sense because the UK decimated a good chunk of the native wild life for some reason, that's why there's no wild bears or wolves in the UK and that's been the case for a really, really long time (hundreds of years). So it makes sense that there's no bears and wolves present. We know damn well though that if there were bears or wolves in the UK then the Clans wouldn't even exist. Look at how big these motherfuckers get and try telling me that a Clan could fend off an entire pack of these things.
Tumblr media
It's odd that the only natural disasters we've seen are the occasional fire and flood, tornadoes aren't rare in the UK and earthquakes happen over there too. I think though with sickness, Shadowclan might develop a natural immunity to illnesses that would often make the strongest warrior weak, not entirely immune of course but they can handle most illnesses better than the other Clans
I don't think there would necessarily be hunters for the cats, but more just TNR people who leave out these kinds of cat traps. It'd probably be difficult for cats to get out of it in the first place which really puts some of the cats on edge. I'd actually argue that Loners and Kittypets can be put in as much danger when it comes to things like accidentally ingesting rat poison left out by the humans.
Tumblr media
But yeah the Clans need more danger to their lives, the only danger that ever really comes is the typical "Scary foreigner group that wants to destroy the Clans and hates Starclan"

Hi, I really appreciate your interest in my ask game and would love to hear your answers to: Food & Drink 12, Weather & Nature 19, Mind Body & Soul 1 and 13, for any OC of your choice!!
Oh thank you so much!! I think I'll answer these for Rae and Madison, two of my X-Men OCs
Putting these under the cut for space
Food and Drink 12: Which mealtime is your character's favorite?
I don't know that Rae has a particular favorite... I guess I'd say dinner, since it's usually when she gets a bit of a reset from work or whatever else she's doing. It also reminds her of her family :D
Madison prefers breakfast - she's usually up bright and early, and loves a good breakfast before the chaos of the day sets in
Weather and Nature 19: What animal would your character say best represents them?
Rae would say she's a honey badger for sure - not too intimidating on the outside, but holy hell is she unafraid of a fight.
Madison would first answer lionfish, since that's what her mutation is most closely modeled after, but emotionally she's more like a wolf - seems to think she's alright on her own, but better when she's part of a "pack", and always seeks to defend those close to her.
Mind, Body, and Soul 1: What is a habit your character has that others might find cute?
Rae's Scottish brogue, which she usually restrains since she's a translator and needs to be understood by the general public (and any strong accent might hinder that), gets a bit stronger when she's sleepy or distracted.
Madison absolutely steals Alex's jackets and hoodies whenever she can, since she's chilly a lot of the time (not much body fat to keep her warm). She sees it as more practical, just picking up whatever warm garment is closest and knowing Alex won't mind if it's one of his, but Alex finds it utterly adorable and even starts strategically leaving a few of his things out for her to "find".
Mind, Body, and Soul 13: How does your character relax?
Rae likes to curl up with a good book, usually something of the horror or thriller variety
Madison likes to be out in nature, either out for a hike with Bravo (her wolfdog) or taking a dip in the lake.

Bruh I got a lot of questions but I'm gonna answer a few for ya I know your busy,
Wouldn't Dream be like the adoptive father/mother to the wolfdog pups and would be more aggressive per say since the gang isn't part of his pack and the fear and trauma of the pups being taken away next might not sit pretty for him it did successfully make him ease up but the problem has just only doubled when puppy's were brought in and that the thought of just sleeping and waking up to see one of them gone might be on his mind.
This is a very Interesting interaction for me if Calcium cat's Dream from OSD would somehow crossover with Feral Dream's wouldn't Feral see him as one of an adoptive pup or child since maternal instinct must be on the roof probably the reaction of pure regret and guilt is sky rocket of pure emotion now while the others would just be confused and soon in awe at the small baby Dream Cross would be very much happy and crying cradling Dream since this one has accepted him, Killer I'm pretty sure would be friendly but a little cautious than OSD Killer. Horror would be having the same interaction as like OSD Horror since he's like that Dust and Lust I'm pretty sure wouldn't change much.
I feel like I wanna make a request of you making art of Dream with the wolfdog pups and maybe add OSD Dream there coddling together in a pile we need that seratonin for what angst is coming next really (and so I can save it in my gallery)
Lol that’s quite alright. I enjoy answering questions when I get the chance to.
Basically yes Dream would become like a parent to the pups, and very territorial of them. He spends a lot of time with pups in general with his pack, kidda like a babysitter who can keep them super warm. A den keeper as some would call it. He would become extremely aggressive at even the act of picking one of the pups up. Granted Blue had told them multiple times that he didn’t think their whole ‘bribe the feral dude with puppies’ idea was going to work. He was right, obviously.
If one of them just happened to disappear under Dreams care he would go into a full frenzy trying to hunt them down.
Tumblr media
That would be adorable to see little bebe osd Dream meeting the Feral Crew.
I think Feral would be suspicious at first, not really understanding his little version. But meeting little Dream might rekindle some memories. Who knows. But yes there would be many cuddles ^^
As for the gang, Cross would definitely be the more active one who’s ready to play and learn about this new little child. I think Killer would be the first to actually interact with little Dream. Killer is a lot more bold than you’d expect (though a lot of it is just wanting to push limits) but he would be more than happy to ‘entertain’ bebe Dream. Horror is a little more standoffish around kids, he’s just not used to them or how to interact with them. Probably a lot of sweets. Kids like sweets right? That’s what the how to book said…
Tumblr media
Dust and Lust would probably enjoy having him around, Lust likes little kids, they are precious after all and need to be protected. Dust would agree. Find the Bean. Protect the Bean.
For the others, Blue very much would not interact with little Dream, he much more prefers his dogs and the loneliness of the snow. Error would very much not want to be involved because he is totally not knitting a blanket. Nope not at all. It definitely doesn’t have a sun on it with little purple vines. Nope not at all. Ink. Well. Ink isn’t allowed to meet the little one.
