T H E M E S . platonic love, found family, dark vs light, power and corruption, unreliable/biased narration, love and sacrifice, loyalty and betrayal, right vs wrong (morality), legacy
S U M M A R Y .
Faerie is in the midst of turbulent times, as tensions continue to rise between the Seelie Court and its hidden counterpart, the Unseelie Court. Elias Bluespeer is tasked with finding the last descendant of the Fairbone line, a legendary fae bloodline that disappeared over two hundred years ago.
However, the Unseelie Court has also sent an agent, Elias’ former best friend Ruka Frosthorn. A boy who broke a vow and part of Elias’ heart when he left two years ago. Together, the two must become reluctant allies with the rest of a motley crew consisting of a warrior, a clairyvoyant, a former hero, a shapeshifter, and a girl who has survived tragedy.
As Elias and Ruka struggle to reconcile old feelings and conflicting views, the Seelie Court prepares to use Mathieu Fairbone to their own benefits, and interests continue to clash dangerously.
E X C E R P T .
First, Elias registered shock, and then, past the point of it: Ruka and his cold eyes, looking at Elias so dispassionately, so levelly, that for a moment Elias’ heart broke all over again.
He heard the words whispered in his mind. I forsake you. He could see the rope of scar tissue twisted around Ruka’s wrist from when he had broken the vow that they had made with no intentions to ever break.
“Elias Bluespeer,” Ruka said. God, Elias hadn’t heard that voice in over two years. Not since they had graduated and everything had fallen apart. Was this a dream? How was it possible for Ruka to be here, of all places, when Elias had been unable to find him for two years?
“Put the dagger away, Ruka,” Elias said calmly, though he could feel the cold press of the metal tip against his jugular. Ruka’s eyes narrowed, dark and so familiar despite how different he was, but his hold on the dagger relaxed. He removed it from Elias’ throat, tucking it into his belt. His sword was strapped across his back, the hilt shining silver.
Elias looked at him for a long moment. He looked so similar to how he had when he was seventeen: the silky black hair that curved over his dark eyes, a triangular face and a sharp jawline, tall and slim, with a choker of silver thorns around his neck, the thin chain of silver falling to a star that rested over the notch of his jugular. He was dressed entirely in black: black pants and a thin black shirt loose over his hands. In the glimmer of fading light, Elias could see the faint outline of flexible chainmail over his chest. Similar, he thought, but harder, as if he was a blade that had been sharpened to a fine point.
“Did you come to fight?” he asked.
“Not your wars,” Ruka responded.
“Then why—” Elias started.
“I won’t ask why you’re here,” Ruka interrupted. “So don’t inquire about why I’m here.” He half turned, then paused and looked back. “I’m sure it’s for the same reason anyways.” Elias’ lips parted, but Ruka had already stepped into the shadows and melted away into nothing.

[ “...it’s an oxymoron really...the fact that fae cannot physically lie, but elias is always accusing ruka of being a liar...a fact that ruka himself believes, despite it being so contrary to the fact. it’s like this...to  each other, ruka and elias were both the only ones the other allowed to get so close on a personal level...and so when ruka left, he broke his [elias’] trust in an irrevocable way...he left elias to second guess everything about their supposed friendship....and so, when he returned, elias can’t trust him even if he wants to...because there’s a part of him always obsessively wondering if ruka is lying to him again...this is a man who has picked apart their relationship for three years...someone unsure of whether or not the person they knew was really someone they knew at all. and on the other hand, you have ruka...someone who has been ostracized his whole life and lived with this huge secret on his shoulders...for fear of himself, of exposure, of knowing his position in life...and so if you think think about, ruka is someone who already feels like he’s living a lie...and [he’s] doubted by everyone around him, and now it’s the person who was his best friend...the person he abandoned to protect in his own twisted way. ruka and elias are not the two schoolboys they were...and so in a way they are forging an entirely new relationship now, after three years...but it’s one built on distrust.” ] lrh, author of fairbone, on elias’ and ruka’s ill fated relationship

aurelius sundust >> the golden hero
“ in my body I fight fire, with the snow, my hell is cold, i've become the only thing I hate, leave this broken body today ”
( - body, syml )
he/him | 21
soft golden curls | delicate but defined features | clear blue eyes | two half sleeves of flower tattoos, one in color and the other in b&w
charismatic | intelligent | moody | reckless
oneirokinesis | dream infiltration; traveling through dreams
Authority Figure | Living Legend
<< who is aurelius sundust? >>
a foil unto himself.
a hero, a figure before he is a man.
a recluse, who has given up everything he once stood for.
“When I was in school, I looked up to you a lot,” Elias admitted, tracing a vein of rose gold quartz in the marble. “You were, you are, a hero. I wanted to fight, too. I thought—you were amazing. What you did in the War was something no one else would have done. Do you know how many fae you saved?”
“I know.” Aurelius’s expression was grim and hard, his voice sharp. “And I also know how many I didn’t. The number of fae who died on both sides. They shouldn’t have let kids fight in a war, just like they shouldn’t have let kids die for it either.”
“No one let us die,” Elias replied softly.
Aurelius shook his head. “Maybe it seems that way to you,” he said, looking at his glass. “But you didn’t see the frontlines.”
“Is that why you didn’t join the Court? I heard even the Reigning Queen asked you too,” Elias stated. “You could have changed things, if you had.”
Aurelius straightened and took a long sip of his drink, the flower petals turning to ash on the countertop. “Maybe I was tired of being what everyone else wanted me to be, wanted me to do.” He glanced at Elias out of the corner of his eye and ruefully remarked, “You have the same expression most people do when they see me after graduating. The look that says I used to be better before. Let me tell you something, Elias Bluespeer. Nobody can ever be who they were before. I think you, of all people, would know that better than most.”

random thoughts about fairbone out of context because i’m in a mood
family is such a strange concept
not only because the fae do family so much more differently than humans - to fae, family is about sharing blood, but it’s not about love (unconditional or otherwise)
this is why aurelius and ashe are so isolated, in a way - they made a family when they shouldn’t have, but to other people, they’re not really a family, because the fae don’t really understand how love is being a family
to ruka and elias (mostly), family is a legacy that they have to carry, the weight of their ancestors weighing on their backs
thieu is the only person who talks about his parents. i think elias mentions his father once, maybe, and ruka has maybe a sentence or two. xanthe talks about her brother, ashe mentions her parents, caelan was abandoned, safiya mentions her mother is dead, but thieu is the one who clings to his mother’s necklace. throughout the whole book, he’s always remembering something his parents said to him, or taught him.
the amount of trust issues in this is atrocious
not even for just ruka and elias, but also for safiya & thieu, and xanthe & aurelius.
when they first come to faerie, thieu is thrown off by the fact that safiya knew all along he was a fairbone, that she had been protecting him while simultaneously lying to him by omission. but he can’t afford not to trust her, so he never really confronts her about it.
aurelius and xanthe are at a weird standpoint where they know each other, but they don’t know each other. however, the weird relationship they had formed instantly shatters when aurelius doubts her / knows she kept something from him (can’t talk about this much because spoilers but anyways).
obviously, trust is weird around fae - they can’t lie, but there’s so many other ways to lie than just saying it outright. like lying by omission. it’s the things that you don’t say that end up being the death of you.
that and loyalty
in the book, ruka mentions fae form relationships within generations rather than family. and that’s true - but fae are loyal because they can’t exactly be trustworthy, they make friends, but also pledge allegiance. they chose a court, they stick to it. however, the contrast between what loyalty means to the unseelie court vs what it means to the seelie court is really something.
ruka is really the only unseelie agent we get to know, along with ciara and cole (my tertiary babies who deserve their own story honestly), but the unseelie court is so different from the seelie court. whereas the seelie court is all about power and hierarchy, how far you can climb, the people you need to respect and the ones you can look down on, the unseelie court is this haphazard wreck of people doing their best to survive.
the whole fact that the courts basically split because the unseelie court faction disagreed with the direction the seelie court was going in and wanted to stay true to the roots of fae and faerie is really just the tip of the iceberg.
the delicous irony, oh my god
the fact that i also didn’t write it intentionally at first, didn’t even realize it was ironic until my sister pointed out how the ending of it is was so ironic, and then i realized the layers of irony.
maybe the irony lies in the unintentional hypocrisy - one sits on a throne while denying all authority, one never lies to another until it comes down to past history.
please enjoy this strange ramble as i try to figure out the next character profiles...taglist i guess scream to be on this

“Aurelius!” Ashe’s cry cut through everything else, startling him out of his daze like it had been nothing but a dream, instead of a memory. He opened his eyes, taking a gasp of air as if he had not been breathing, chest heaving. He pushed himself into a standing position, seeing Ashe pulling the young fae out, Xanthe appearing.
“We need to…” he said, his lungs still constricting, despite not having to run yet. Ashe looked around, a strange expression crossing her face, one of fear and also...resignation?
“No peace,” she said in a soft whisper.
“Not yet,” Aurelius said, but he didn’t know what to say that would ease her mind. They thought they had secured peace three years ago, but it was all in upheaval again—the whole of Faerie, thrown back into chaos by a single night. Aurelius had a sinking feeling deep in his bones that this would not end as the sun rose in all its fiery gold.
“It never was, was it?” Ashe asked, her eyes brimming with sadness when she looked up at him. Aurelius regarded her with tired and heavy eyes, the blood soaking through the bandage around her already injured leg, the shreds of green hanging off her shoulders, the mud smeared over her face like camouflage.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly.
“Don’t be,” Ashe said. She whistled, sharp and short, like water gurgling in her mouth. She listened intensely. “They’re coming, but they can’t go through the fire.”

Positive Self Analysis Challenge
Rules: Post an excerpt you are proud of, and talk about why you’re proud of it! Choose a few sentences and talk about why you like them/what you were aiming for while you were writing.
Tagged by @commasinsidequotes ! I know it’s been like a month or whatever, but I kept getting distracted from writing.
I’ll tag @semblanche & @landfillmp3 & @acrimoneous if you guys haven’t done this already ;-;
This excerpt is from Fairbone and there are, like, kind of major spoilers mentioned, and I couldn’t edit them out without messing up the scene. It’s also long, because I couldn’t find a good place to cut it lol.
“For the dead.” Aurelius raised his glass into the air and clinked it against nothing. “No one asked me to go into the fire, Xanthe. No one asked me to let your brother burn alive either.” Xanthe flinched at how crudely he said it, let your brother burn alive. “No one asked me to leave Ashe behind. No one asked me to make any choice I made, but I made them, and now I’m paying the price and it’s fine, I’m fine with that. It’s just karma, right?” His eyes were red rimmed, from exhaustion, from pain, when he looked at her with his smile twisted in all the wrong ways.
“Aurelius.”
“Don’t say anything.” The words were a whispered plea. “Don’t say anything. I don’t—I don’t even want to be speaking to you right now. I just want—” He trailed off, voice wavering, and dug both his hands into his hair. The glass dropped to the floor and shattered apart, Xanthe watching it fall as if in slow motion and making no move to attempt to stop it.
“I want it to be quiet,” Aurelius whispered into his hands. “I want to die.”
Xanthe’s heart constricted, painfully. “Aurelius,” she started, but he turned away from her before she could even begin to reach out to him.
“I think…” He paused, looking up at her from between his spread fingers. “I think I want to go to where I belong.”
“Where is that?” Xanthe asked, but she thought she already knew.
Aurelius looked at his thin wrist and traced the empty space there languidly. “Someplace not where you are.”
Her heart squeezed even tighter. “I understand,” she whispered, but the words tasted like sawdust in her mouth. “I don’t know when you’ll be able to, though. Ruka’s been imprisoned.”
Aurelius raised his eyebrows, eyes darkening. “Bluespeer?” he guessed.
“How did you know?” Xanthe asked, tilting her head.
“The righteous are the most ruthless,” Aurelius responded. He looked up at her, and Xanthe could see the wheels turning. “Luckily for us, we’re neither.” Xanthe didn’t know if it was a compliment or an insult.
“I won’t see you for a while,” she said softly.
“You won’t,” Aurelius acknowledged. “Not unless you plan on leaving.”
Xanthe touched the place where the rose was tattooed over her skin, and felt it burn beneath her thumb. “I can’t,” she told him. “Not yet.”
Aurelius’ lips twitched, almost. “It’s probably for the best,” he said, more soberly than he had spoken before. “We probably shouldn’t see each other for a while.”
“What does that mean?” Xanthe asked, feeling a lump in her throat. She felt like she was being slowly torn to pieces this whole conversation, each word from his mouth another piece of her being thrown to the wolves.
“It means that you’re painful for me, right now,” Aurelius answered. “And I don’t think I can look at you without remembering Ashe. I don’t...I can’t heal if you’re here with me every step of the way.”
Xanthe swallowed, but it got stuck. She hadn’t been expecting him to say it so bluntly, like something had been stabbed between her ribs and stuck there.
“Am I the problem?” she asked, so softly that she thought, for a moment, it had gone unheard.
Aurelius looked away from her. “I think we’re both the problem,” he whispered. “Because whenever we’re around each other like this, people die.” Xerxes, Xanthe thought, back then, what had broken them apart. Ashe, breaking them apart now.
She couldn’t even argue with him and say that it wasn’t true, because that was a lie she would be unable to say. The girl that had seen the death and the man who had led them into it. They were both a pair, weren’t they? A type of dysfunctional that had worked when they were younger and didn’t have to suffer the consequences as much, but now the blood had found their hands and dried there.
“Okay,” she whispered, sliding off the counter, her bare feet touching the cold ground. “But if this is the last time we’ll talk, can I do something?”
“What?” Aurelius looked at her.
Xanthe swallowed. “This,” she whispered, and then she kissed him as hard as she could. He stumbled back, against the counter, and Xanthe pressed forward, trying to feel anything, but he was unyielding, shoving her off. She broke away from him, gasping, and wiped at her mouth sloppily.
“What the hell, Xanthe,” Aurelius said fiercely, his words biting.
She shrugged, feeling tears in her eyes. “I’m not sorry,” she whispered, and his eyes softened. He took a half step towards her and then he was kissing her instead, lips soft against her own. Xanthe felt heat in her body, tingling in her nerves, as if her blood was on fire. She felt the counter behind her, scrambling for balance against it, the edge digging into her back. She leaned forward, to deepen the kiss, only for him to gently pull away from her again.
“We shouldn’t,” he whispered, shaking his head. “It’s grief.”
Xanthe looked away. She felt guttural and raw. She felt like something had been ripped apart inside of her. “It’s fine,” she whispered, but the words stretched her tongue the wrong way, made her feel all wrong, because it wasn’t fine, it wasn’t fine.
“Why…” Aurelius broke off. “It was my mistake,” he said instead, pressing his lips together. “It was my mistake, I’m sorry. A lapse of judgement.”
“I don’t want to be your lapse of judgement,” Xanthe whispered. She couldn’t raise her voice. “I’m in love with you, Aurelius. I’ve been in love with you for a long time. I was going, I was going to tell you at the River of Forgetting, but I couldn’t, so I’m telling you now.”
“Go, Xanthe,” Aurelius said, rubbing at his temples. He sounded tired, looked exhausted, but Xanthe was unwilling to let the conversation simply filter off. Not when her words were in the air, not when they had finally been said.
“Is that all you have to say?” she asked bitterly. “No comment? You can’t even reject or accept me?”
“It’s your feelings towards me, I shouldn’t have anything to do with them,” Aurelius retorted, a snap in his voice. “What, you need me to validate your teenage love for me? Even if I feel the same, even if I don’t, that won’t erase your feelings. It’s not my responsibility, Xanthe.”
“Fuck you,” Xanthe whispered.
“Too late for that.” His eyes were ice cold chips. “You don’t get to fucking say you love me, Xanthe, not after we both nearly died and Ashe did die and she died because of us.”
“That’s not our fault!” Xanthe cried. “If you were me, Aurelius, you would understand that I can’t accept responsibility for every death that happens just because I had a vision about it!”
“And what about your brother?!” Aurelius shouted back. “You’re telling me you saw Xerxes was going to die and you did nothing to stop it? Because I was the one who dragged you out of there, Xanthe, and you were screaming to go die with him.”
She felt tears in her eyes. Everything was hot and bitter and burning. “Don’t bring him into this,” she said.
“Xerxes is as much of a part of us as the two of us are,” Aurelius responded. “He’ll always be there.”
“So what, that’s why this will never work?” Xanthe questioned, hands curling into fists where she held herself tight. “Because of my dead brother?”
“You tell me,” Aurelius said with his dark eyes and his golden hair and his ruination, all over him. She said nothing and he turned away from her, looking somewhere that was not her, somewhere that did not have her. “Go, Xanthe.”
She left.
Analysis
When I first wrote this scene, I wrote it all at once, and I didn’t exactly feel that good about it, but I liked it all the same, because I kind of just like Xanthe and Aurelius...anyways, it was a lot of raw emotion, and when it comes to raw emotion, I tend to write it, well, rawly (which can sometimes be re: messy). So I wasn’t really sure how much I actually liked this scene, but I kept coming back to it, and it still really jumps out at me, now.
Mostly, because this is, in a way, the ending to Xanthe and Aurelius’ story. The whole theme of them throughout the book is that they keep coming back to each other, even after everything that happened, but here is where they end, this is where they know they’re not coming back to each other.
“So what, that’s why this will never work?” Xanthe questioned, hands curling into fists where she held herself tight. “Because of my dead brother?”
Xanthe saying this kind of encapsulates their whole relationship - even if they have feelings for one another, they never acted on them. At first, when they were teenagers, because Xanthe was his best friend’s sister, and then because Xerxes died and neither of them could save him. Even when they reconnected, after three years, Xerxes is still there, in the empty space, even when they’re not thinking about him.
“What, you need me to validate your teenage love for me? Even if I feel the same, even if I don’t, that won’t erase your feelings. It’s not my responsibility, Xanthe.”
I’ve always liked the concept of someone...not being responsible for your feelings, if that makes sense, and not having to reciprocate feelings. Aurelius and Xanthe deal with their feelings and emotions for one another in slightly peculiar ways; they’ve never really confronted them, even if they’re definitely there. There’s always been a sort of understanding between the two of them that they are more than friends, but it’s never something they’ve acted on, due to external pressures and circumstances. This scene is basically Xanthe considering why not and going for it, but once again, circumstances hold them apart.
Xanthe and Aurelius are basically the definition of two people who might be destined for one another, but keep meeting at the wrong time, if you know what I mean? There’s a quote or something that could explain it better, but I can’t quite remember it...anyways.
This scene focuses a lot of emotions. I wouldn’t call any of the characters in Fairbone to be particularly emotional people, besides maybe Ashe and Thieu, and while Xanthe and Aurelius have practically clashed in all their scenes, here is where it all overflows. Aurelius, on one hand, finally lets it all out:
“I want it to be quiet,” Aurelius whispered into his hands. “I want to die.”
Aurelius, in a way, has been like this the whole book. He’s broken. He’s suffering. He’s lost. But we as the readers might not really understand this so explicitly until he finally admits this: that he’s tired. That he’s so tired. And he’s been tired. Now he’s just plain exhausted.
This turned out long and I kind of just talked in circles, but in conclusion, it’s an emotional scene, if not a good one, and I like that.

RUKA AND THIEU: CINEMATIC PARALLELS
a. on power
i. Ruka tipped his head back and exploded.
For a moment, there was only darkness. All the sound had exited, and Ruka was in a vacuum, surrounded by nothing and no one but his shadows. He felt raw and powerful, as if something inside of him had unlocked and burst free, as if fire was licking at his veins.
ii. Flash and lightning cracked across the sky. Rain was in torrents around them, whipping his hair and clothes up. Thieu saw his necklace rise in another flash, silver in the storm and he had a sudden thought, a realization crashing down on him as thunder roared and rain dampened rising fires all around them.
I am the eye of the storm.
b. on freedom
i. We have been trapped for so long, his shadows whispered, and they were a cacophony, they were a chorus, and now you have set us free. Ruka did not feel the pain, he did not feel the anger; all he could feel was coldness and darkness and they were one, as if a snake had eaten its own tail and settled into his stomach.
ii. “That means no more hiding, Mathieu. No more holding back. You are a Fairbone now, no, you are more than that. You will be my right hand man, and you will help me lead this era past its turbulent times and into peace. Tell me you understand.”
c. on trust
i. Ruka whetted his throat, giving a small laugh. “I do not trust myself, and neither should any of you.” They did not know the self hatred that coated the words, the truth behind them. Ruka knew he was a liar, even if he did not lie in the ways humans did.
ii. Blaise Goldbreeze gave him a long, considering look. “Should I believe you, Mathieu Fairbone?”
“Probably not,” Thieu answered in the most vaguest but honest way that he could. “I’m a conman, my Queen. Tricks are my speciality.” He didn’t say, you should never trust me, because that wasn’t entirely true. Thieu was someone who ran with whatever side got him what he wanted the most; for the past couple of years, the Circus Arcana and Wren and Safiya had done that for him.

FAIRBONE: wip intro
Alternatively titled Throne of Bones
Genre: YA Fantasy
Current Stage: Plotting and drafting
In the midst of turbulent times, as unrest grows between the Seelie Court and their hidden counterpart, the Unseelie Court, Elias Bluespeer is given a mission: to find the last descendant of the legendary Fairbone line. However, things are not what they seem to be and Elias is not the only one on the trail. Plunged into the midst of danger, Elias must uncover decades of hidden history while also confronting his own memories.
Years ago, Ruka Frosthorn broke a vow, and what remained of his heart along with it. Now, he hides in the Unseelie Court, until he is called forward to action. Drawn to a quest of his own, Ruka finds himself facing an old friend turned foe and a promise that he has not yet forgotten.
Mathieu ‘Thieu’ Fairbone has always known he was different, but fairytales are a thing of the past—until the fae come to him and his life is turned upside down. Forced to confront the part of him that he has never wanted to know, Thieu must make a choice that could cost him everything.
Themes: Friendship, platonic love, darkness vs light, found family, destruction, power and corruption, prophecy, self discovery, death, fate, tragedy, chaos and order
POV: Limited third person, mainly revolving around three povs with scattered ‘secondary’ pov
Aesthetic: Roses, lace and silk, empty ballrooms, deceit, melancholy, drowning in sorrows, illicit love, heartbreak, hands dripping glitter, silent waves, reflections in rivers and mirrors, flower petals scattered across the ground
Characters: Mainly featuring Elias Bluespeer, Ruka Frosthorn, and Mathieu Fairbone with prominent secondary characters being Aurelius Sundust, Xanthe Glowbriar, Safiya Greenclave, Caelan Starmire, and Ashe Spritesong
Excerpt:
Elias had been through Rosebriar forest only once before, during his time at the institute. It had been one of their tests—he recalled it vividly because the forest had eaten one of the students alive, and because he had gotten lost, the forest trapping him and Ruka in it with thorns and briar alike. Hours had passed like minutes had passed like days had passed like a river had passed like dripping honey.
This time, however, the forest hummed beneath him gently, as if it remembered his footsteps. It was quiet within it, only the faint rustle of leaves and the flap of wings from far off birds. The sun was bright, dappling the green forest in a buttery gold that dripped off the leaves and spilled across the mossy floor.
Elias felt like he was walking on a path of memories. He was ten years old, in these same woods, wandering far from safety. The trees were twisting and twisting and then parting to reveal a small boy framed in an ethereal halo of electric yellow light, soft on the black of his hair.
The fae did not say things like they wished to turn back time like mortals did, for the fae lived long lives. They were ancient beings removed from time almost entirely, but for a moment, Elias almost indulged himself in stepping back nine years. For a moment, he wished that he was ten again. When they had been young children, the weight of the world had not mattered, for they had not felt it so acutely on their shoulders.

maybe ruka loved more, in the end

how cuddable are your ocs?
tagged by @chazwrites (thanks!!!)
hmm...I’ll do the characters of Fairbone for this!!
ruka: 1/10 maybe elias can touch him...but even then, 90% of the time he can’t. ruka is someone who detests physical contact; hugging him or even just lightly touching his arm is the equivalent of making contact with a cactus in response.
elias: 3/10 is probably down to cuddle, but doesn’t really have anyone to cuddle with *coughs*. he kind of holds himself at a distance because he’s a professional person, and so he would probably be a stiff cuddler.
thieu: 5/10 thieu’s not a big fan of hugs or really cuddling, but he does appreciate small touches and leans into them (usually from safiya).
aurelius: 2/10 maybe the golden hero was a cuddable person, but this aurelius is an isolated person. he doesn’t like to let people get close in that intimate of a way, i.e. skinship.
xanthe: 2/10 she’s just not that type of girl. for xanthe, cuddling and hugs display a type of affection that she’s just not comfortable with displaying. the only person she lets do that would be her brother, but he’s dead, so...
safiya: 4/10 while coming off strong, she does actually like to comfort people through touch and hugs, though she usually limits this to people she knows.
caelan: 7/10 though he’s a shy boy, he does like to curl into spaces, making him a very ideal cuddler. it takes him a while to warm up to people, but he’s a very cuddly person when he does.
ashe: 10/10 she loves skinship and hugs. she shows her affection through touches; it’s basically her love language.
I guess I’ll tag @xiaodol @landfillmp3 @semblanche (but only if you guys want!!)

For the oc asks: K, L, M - @landfillmp3
Full Name - Christopher Quentin (The Metamorphosis of the Lost) Nicknames, If Any - Kit (for K) Hogwarts House - Gryffindor; he’s brave, cheeky, and reckless. Gender - Male Sexuality - Ambiguous  A Song I Associate With Them - Demons by WE ARE FURY  3 Important Relationships -
Mika - a weird dynamic that mostly consists of the fact that Kit is interested in him, Mika wants nothing to do with him, they both say they don’t care about the other but they do.
Diem - love her, hate her, everyone is involved with Diem in some way. For Kit, it’s more of the fact that he knows she doesn’t like him, and they both rub each other the wrong way. She considers him to be one of the Practitioners flawed creation, and therefore does discriminated against him a bit.
June - these two also stand on rocky ground, but they bonded over similarly traumatic experiences, and she trusts him to have her back.
2 Fears
Drowning - it was how he died the first time around, and even if he could probably survive it again, that doesn’t stop it from being terrifying to him, to the point where he avoids any large body of water
Not being able to see - you can take this in many ways; for him, it’s more geared towards fear that he’ll be surrounded by people he doesn’t know, like when you’re standing in a room and there’s someone behind you and you don’t know who.
1 Element of their backstory - I haven’t really fully fleshed out his backstory, but he died by drowning after being incapacitated and then dumped into the water.
Full Name - Lucian (Unnamed WIP - I don’t have a lost name for him yet) Nicknames, If Any - Luc Hogwarts House - Slytherin - he’s resourceful, loyal to the people he’s close with, cunning, and holds grudges. Gender - Male Sexuality - unknown (to the author) A Song I Associate With Them - Way Down We Go by Kaleo 3 Important Relationships
His sister - she was the person he looked up to the most and the person who saved his life, while sacrificing hers. He feels the debt he owes her (and the rest of his family) will never be recovered.
His brother - Luc was the second son, and his brother was the one set to inherit the throne. Still, they had a close relationship, and his older brother always had the mindset that it was his job to protect Luc, especially after Luc’s accident.
Nikita - Luc’s sole reason for forming a relationship with her was that he wanted to get revenge on her in the most twisted way possible. She’s the reason his family was destroyed and murdered, the reason Myorda is in a state of anarchy, the reason he lives every day afraid that this will be the day he dies.
2 Fears
Discovery - as of right now, Luc’s biggest fear, the fear that drives him through every single painful day, is the fear that he will finally be discovered and killed, failing his family’s ghosts and the whole of Myorda.
Night terrors - every night when he goes to sleep, he’s haunted by his family and the massacre of the palace. It follows him in dreams, comes alive in his mind, and he always wakes with a scream on his lips, halfway to running away, his leg sending searing pain up his whole body, fear in every vein, grief and guilt overpowering every other instinct. He runs, again and again and again, and fails to prevent sleep from taking him, again and again and again.
1 Element of their backstory - Luc permanently injured his leg in a boating accident when he was fifteen; in saving the life of a child, his leg was crushed. While they tried their best to make a full recovery, the bone healed slightly wrong. He walks with a limp and a cane now, and experiences chronic pain still.
Full Name - Mathieu Fairbone (Fairbone) Nicknames, If Any - Thieu Hogwarts House - Gryffindor Gender - Male Sexuality - Demi A Song I Associate With Them - Blurry by Elli K 3 Important Relationships -
His mother - though she’s been dead for a decade now, he still cherishes the memory of her. Her necklace, which she gave to him, is his most prized possession, and it helps him quell his anxiety about things.
Safiya - she was the first person he really bonded with at the Circus, and she’s been his shield for the past couple years. Though they’re very much hot and cold, he trusts her above anyone else.
Wren - despite them not being that close, he still holds Wren close in his heart, as he was the person who took Thieu in and gave him a home when he was just a kid, no matter how twisted of a home that might have been.
2 Fears
Failing - he’s afraid that he won’t be enough, that he won’t be who they want him to be, who he’s supposed to be. The legacy on his shoulders is a heavy weight that he does not know if he will be able to handle it.
Abandonment - as someone who’s grown up stubbornly on his own, this  many people around him, caring for his well being, is a new fact. Still, he’s afraid that once they figure out he can’t be who they want him to be, he’ll be discarded. Truely alone.
1 Element of their backstory - his father was a French raised Korean and his mother was a fae, meaning that in his childhood days, Thieu was exposed to a variety of cultures around the world. However, as a halfling (which he didn’t know about, he just thought he was born with cursed eyes and rare genetic disorders and such), Thieu always had trouble finding his own self identity, and who he was when he felt like he had too many parts.

Happy STS from writingamongthecoloredroses! What common tropes does your main couple fall into?
thank you for the ask, @writingamongthecoloredroses & sorry it’s late - i was out of town.
fairbone doesn’t have a main couple, but xanthe and aurelius have
afraid to commit
best friend’s sibling (in the past)
brother’s best friend (lol)
not good enough for him/her
kind of tragic past
second chance at love (sort of)
slightly unrequited love
ash heart contains the tropes of friends to lover, enemies to (friends to) lovers, secrets, etc.

first & last line tags
i have NOT been keeping up with tags at all, but i was tagged in these by @kozyisa-tries-to-write and @writingamongthecoloredroses a couple times (probably a long time ago) and it’s been languishing in my drafts for ages, so here is the first and last line (yes it’s not the last line i wrote, but it works) from fairbone for fun:
The streets were alive with illegality and late night noise, the neon signs lit up all over the city and the bars spilling people dressed in feathers and beads out onto the street in a mass of music and dance, but the real attraction was through a water fountain on the corner of 32nd street.
It was the end of an era.
i’ll tag @acrimoneous @landfillmp3 @xiaodol (keep in mind these are two separate tags, you guys can do both or pick which one you want to do haha)
