Caretaker was snapped out of his sleep by the sound of the phone. He lifted the receiver to his ear, still semi-conscious. On the other end, he heard a quiet, hesitant voice: "Hello...? Hello?"

(C:) "mmm? ....yea...? whosthere..."

(W:) "I'm sorry for interrupting"

Only then did he recognize the familiar voice on the receiver. Caretaker raised himself up on his elbow, startled. Whumpee rarely contacted anyone when it wasn't necessary.

(C:) "Oh, no. Not at all"

In the aftermath of the horrors of the war Whumpee experienced, he had trouble asking anyone for help, or keeping in touch at all.

(W:) "You were sleeping"

(C:) "Hm? Yes, I mean I was. But I told you I'm more than happy to talk if you ever need to. So I guess I'm just glad you reached out"

Caretaker gave the caller a moment to collect himself and say the reason for the conversation. But instead, silence fell on both sides of the phone.

(C:) "So what is it, Whumpee? You know, it's okay if you just called for no reason. We can find a topic"

Whatever happened, Whumpee simply wasn't in a place to say it out loud. Instead he asked:

(W:) "D-do you remember that song?"

(C:) "The song...? Oh, you mean the one you've heared in my radio you liked so much?"

(W:) "Mhm"

(C:) "You want me to sing it to you?"

(W:) "mhm..."

(C:) "Okay, so you need to keep the receiver close, I have to be a little quiet so my neighbours don't wake up"

Caretaker's voice was quiet, soft and soothing. When he finished, he asked what kind of song Whumpee would like to hear next.

Caretaker got no answer, only the sound of calm, deep breathing. Whumpee fell asleep hugging the receiver to his cheek.

Ethel is our most dramatic color changing dragon. She tends to wear her heart on her sleeve. We tell her she must be part chameleon. 😆 Dragons normally don't change color this drastically. Most of the time you notice slow color variations when they go from the UV lighting to no UV lighting. Or when they go from being inside to out in the sun. Sometimes the color change is so minimal, you don't see any variation. Other times it can be little stripes or spots that become more noticeable. As for Ethel, when she gets "emotional" she gets bright yellow. Whether it be getting upset or happy, expresses herself by going from an almost black color to the bright yellow. It can happen very quickly, in seconds. Just from taking her out of her enclosure and holding her can make her yellow. But if she gets tired or the emotional elevation lowers, she will go back to her darker color.
