Step By Step: It makes sense to me.

We’re taking a break from our game this week, so it’s time to get into the Step By Step discourse. Much has been said about the pacing and the writing of this show. I want to write out some of my thoughts on the gay things that are going on and how I think they play into the themes. I’ll try building off my post from last night and expanding those thoughts.

Let me say that I am writing this from the perspective as a Black gay male in the Gulf Coast of the US. I’m writing from that perspective and primarily for that perspective.

The Frustration Is Intentional

I think one of the big themes of this show is about how people are not going to be able to have happiness if they can’t live their lives honestly with each other. Almost every couple is having problems of some sort in this show, and most of them are because of their inability to be direct and honest with each other about what’s going on. Pat gained clarity with the MLM Big Tall by telling him right off. He and Put can’t be together because neither of them can talk about how much they don’t fit anymore. Beam can’t be with Ae. Ae is always fussing with Khanun. Jaab and Jane can’t be together because they can’t talk about what’s going on between them. Pat and Jeng are struggling because Jeng is struggling.

I agree that these episodes have not felt triumphant, but it doesn’t feel like that’s what the show is going for right now. They had a false honeymoon phase. It almost feels like they’re hoping that the release in a year’s worth of sexual tension will fix all the other issues. However, the world is still pressing in. Ying saw this, too, and reminded Pat that he is the one who must be strong. It feels kinda cool to me that a romantic lead who’s the more femme written such that they must take total control of their destiny. Neither of these dudes are going to solve Pat’s problems.

Jeng is Broken

Jeng broke last week when he finally admitted what’s been going on with Pat to Jaab. Something I feel very strongly about is how little care is given to boys who mask well enough to pull of heteronormativity. They are suffering quietly, but we don’t care about their pain because they seem so put together or they’re unfun. Jeng has been nursing a crush on Pat for a year, and he was confronted with the revelation that Pat has only seen him as a coworker, has thought he was straight this entire time, and has explicitly said that Jeng is making him uncomfortable.

Jeng’s breakdown says he knows how tenuous his hold has been for a long time. We all noticed that he seemed off this week. He’s barely processing Pat’s confession. He’s throwing food to the ground. He’s not taking care at work. Instead of creating appropriate professional distance from them, he’s instead planning to promote Pat past his colleagues. Jeng is not paying attention.

Beyond his interest in Pat, the only thing he showed interest in this episode was continuing to bring food to the local homeless population. We learned in the first episode that he cares a lot about food waste, and we can tell that he clearly has cultivated a positive relationship with at least one unhoused community (See @wen-kexing-apologist post for more extensive thoughts about this).

My good sis @shortpplfedup revived her Anatomy of a Scene series to talk about the final bed scene between Pat and Jeng to highlight how out of sync they are. We also have a great observation from @grapejuicegay about the parallels between the last bed scene with Put as well. I personally also like that Jeng is making a hot mess of things because I think we need to see competent people break sometimes. I like that Jeng is messing up here because he’s older than Pat. I like that Pat is recognizing that being an adult in a relationship is going to require him to also take charge in his relationships, and we get early signs of this with Jeng placing Pat higher than him on the bed, and also a specific linguistic slip that occurred during the car scene where Pat drops honorifics for Jeng (@chicademartinica).

My man is not well. I knew he was genuinely broken when he recoiled at Pat’s suggestion that the rest of the company was relying on him. This was one of his primary motivations for returning to the company in the first place, and he’s completely lost the thread of that because he just wants to be with Pat. I think Jeng will do better if he leaves the company and focuses on his humanitarian goals, and I am excited to see how the show faces that.

I Don’t Think the Romance Is the Goal

I do think that Pat and Jeng will get together. This is BL after all. However, like with Lovely Writer, I think the narrative goals are about how the societal systems around the romance complicate the romance and make it almost impossible. In Lovely Writer, it was the structures of BL production. In this show, it’s about the way corporate culture makes that impossible within the company.

I’ve been reading the posts where people are struggling with this show or frustrated with some of the decisions on the editing floor. Both @lurkingshan and @neuroticbookworm wrote about their feelings about the lack of emotional catharsis or the confusion around the pacing of the story. I see both perspectives and do genuinely share in these frustrations. However, much of my energy has been spent on how the side plots fit into this drama and what they reveal about the main couple as our vehicle through this story.

The Role of the Hets

I was chatting with @lurkingshan last night and I posited that Beam’s role in the story is to show what happens to the people who are cowardly in romance. I also just finished Coffee Prince, where I spent the entire time complaining to Shan about the messy hets in that show. @chicademartinica already did a good breakdown of this in her earlier post about how intentional Tee is being with these beats.

With Beam, he and Ae knew about the feelings that existed between them, but Beam never said anything or did anything with it. Ae may fuss with Khanun a lot, but he’s not afraid of her. He loves her. He is happy with the life they are building and he’s the one who fathered a child with her. Jeng and Put both failed to speak with Pat properly, and now he’s been forced to run away from them. Like Beam, they have been cowards in their relationship with him.

With Jaab and Jane, both are also an example of abject failure to discuss anything about their feelings for each other. Both are pining for the other and making life choices about the other without consulting the other. They keep meeting and clearly thinking about each other, but keep creating barriers between any kind of connection.

Chot is Everything

Chot. I will be writing an In Praise of… essay for Chat like I did for Framboise. We’ve talked about how Chot is an example of who Pat could be someday (@imminentinertia). I think it’s noteworthy that Chot mentioned that he and Krit have been struggling with the closet for eight years. Chot may be out and proud at work, but he’s closeted privately because his partner cannot share his life with him fully. I think it’s notable that it’s been eight years since SOTUS first aired, and Chot is a reminder that BL has a duty to the queers whose lives are packaged for mass entertainment in these stories.

I can’t find one of the posts right now, but I also agree that I think it would be satisfying for the story for Chot to take over Jeng’s role in the company. It felt extremely intentional to me that the Forge project was helmed by and starred almost exclusively gay/bi/femme men despite the funders and decision-makers having a weak understanding of BL and queerness itself. So many organizations rely on the emotional intelligence and availability of queer people to keep themselves running.

I also feel like Tee wanted to do right by a character for Bruce this time. Many of us felt some kind of way about what happened to his character in Lovely Writer, and I like that he gets to be the first one to signal that the needle is moving a little bit. After eight difficult years, he and his partner are going to see his partner’s parents. Chot is a reminder that none of this stuff happens quickly. It’s been a year in the show for Jeng and Pat, but it’s been decades for some of us in the struggle for queer rights.

More than anything, I am glad that Pat has a queer friend who isn’t too much older than him to give him perspective. It’s imperative that we continue to show that queer people are rarely alone in their lives as adults. They’re finding their friends and community. We also take care of each other. Chot is not going to sit idly by and let the Baby Gay in the office flounder. He takes him under his wing at the expressed concern from Jeng.

Let’s Talk About Gay Sex

They showed Ben’s happy trail!!! I can’t believe it! We’ve come so far! These two can kiss!!

I really love these two jumping into a physical relationship quickly only for it to end up not working for Pat. Chot warned him that he was looking down on Jeng’s feelings. Jeng has more feelings than just his attraction to Pat, and that’s going to be the struggle for the rest of this show. Pat needs to see the totality of Jeng, and these two need to figure out what they want for themselves.

I can’t wait to see what triumphant sex looks like for these two.

Bones: Patterns and Precedents - II

Sweets was a great friend to Booth and Brennan, but a lousy therapist.

One of my favourite scenes of Season 3 is in The Man in the Mud, where they are talking in the car on the way back from interrogating the father of the victim. In the context of not changing one’s mind once a decision is made, Booth refers to ‘no changies, no takebacks’.

Brennan: That whole business with changies and takebacks, that’s not true, is it?

Booth: No.

The implication of Booth’s line reverberates in the air, and my heart kind of breaks for Brennan. She accepted the barely leashed attraction much before Booth allowed himself to think of her that way. Despite Booth being completely reticent with his own dark past at this point, she understands the core of him better than he could have imagined.

My favourite example of this is in Player Under Pressure, when she staunchly refuses to let Booth place himself in the category of ‘stunted jocks who used women like playthings’.

Brennan: Even Cutler knew you were lying when you said you treated women like that, under the bleachers.

Booth: And you believe him?

Brennan: Yes, because you still remember that first girl’s name.

Season 3 Brennan is perhaps my favourite of the early Brennans – she had her father and brother back, she had Zack back, and she had Booth all to herself. She was beginning to loosen the reins on her boundless sense of empathy and letting herself feel again. Simultaneously Booth starts to realise that Brennan sees him, truly sees him for who he is, and that perhaps he can let some of his controlled façade fall around her. If their relationship was in any way analogous to an ordinary relationship between two average people, this would be the initial dating and courtship period. I whole-heartedly believe that without outside interference, the line would have started being erased.

Enter Sweets and ‘partner therapy’.

I might be biased since I WILL be comparing every show therapist to Linda hereafter, but even within the bounds of this bias, Sweets falls short. I can buy the need for the FBI to require an objective evaluation for such a non-conventional partnership. But Sweets seems to have focused on their potential romantic overtones from the very beginning, rather than doing his job – evaluating the partnership. At the point he comes in, B&B as professional partners are solid and not a broken thing that needs fixing. Even when Sweets insists on a ‘double date’ to observe the partners in a non-work setting, it is his relationship which ends up being under the scanner, and the psychiatrist who ends up needing the help of his patients. Purportedly, he was there to ensure the professional boundaries would be maintained while B&B worked on opposite sides during Max’s trial, but once again, they didn’t need any outside help navigating that.

Sweets’ decision to keep Brennan in the dark about Booth after his shooting was frankly unforgiveable. That one decision unraveled all the emotional stability she had been shoring up in this season. With Zack following close on the heels of this incident, it’s no wonder she took a significant emotional step back in Season 4. Even though their partnership was intact, her banter towards Booth had an edge reminiscent of early Season 1. She’s just a smidge too snide, a mite too dismissive.

In Sweets’ defense, he was spot on with the ‘surrogate relationship’ observation in Man in the Outhouse. He noticed the utter, absolute trust displayed by Brennan towards Booth in Double Trouble. In Con Man in the Meth Lab, it was Brennan who fell short as Booth’s friend and Sweets who stepped up. In response, it is Brennan who steps up and fully assimilates Sweets into their makeshift family through the sharing of their darkest secrets.

This is all to say, Sweets as a part of the overall Jeffersonian-FBI family is perfect. But as a therapist? Booth’s coma ripped away the thick walls of denial he had built around his feelings for Brennan. Instead of gentling Booth through this upheaval, like a therapist SHOULD do, he casts heavy doubt on the validity of Booth’s feelings, only to then do an about turn and all but goad Booth into an impulsive gamble that almost destroyed things. Yes, Booth’s actions are his own – but dammit you expect to trust the advice of your long-term supposed therapist!

as a child, leia often runs away from social situations she doesn’t want to be in, or that she finds distressing.

as a child, leia is bothered by texture, pointing out itchy clothes as one of the main things that bothers her about the senate.

leia is blunt and says what she thinks, very often to the point of being rude, or inappropriate in the context.

Chapter 2 - The First Rumor

The awards ceremony that both would attend was one of those celebrations in which the entire Korean press would be, its mission was one: not to miss a single detail of the night.

Naturally, Changkyun arrived with the rest of his members, they posed together, and after greeting several of their closest friends, they sat together.

For her part, even though Liv had entered with other renowned choreographers and even producers, the girl had become so close to her group that she went directly to greet them, and since Seventeen was not that far from Monsta X, I.M wasn't missing a single thing his girlfriend did.

"Changkyun" Shownu called when he noticed that the maknae was looking at Liv without any discretion. “You have ALL the cameras on you, control yourself.”

"I'm not doing anything, hyung."

"You haven't moved your gaze from Liv, anyone would notice."

Fortunately, Shownu did not have to say more, for a group of girls from their company was arriving and after greeting all the members, they talked a bit with them. Although there was no kind of romantic relationship between the members of Monsta X and Cosmic Girls, the fans had created rumors about practically everyone, particularly about I.M and another idol called Luda. However, until that night that had not been an issue for the rapper and his girlfriend, actually, they had barely talked about it since they both knew the truth; besides, Liv had also been the victim of gossips that didn't make sense, like all the ones she'd faced about her and Hoshi, even about her with other members of other groups she'd worked with.

During the afterparty, there weren't that many cameras, just a couple of authorized photographers so the guests could relax a little more. Even so, the entire industry was at that party and the rumors were precisely the most interesting thing of the night.

“Hey, but when did you finish that? I just brought it to you!” Hoshi said as he returned next to Liv. "Don't bother explaining, I got it." The dancer had looked in the same direction as Liv and understood what was going on the moment he saw Changkyun and Luda talking. “We can go to their table if that's what you want. You know… mark your territory.”

Olivia wasn't exactly a jealous woman, she more than anyone knew how much I.M loved her; however, Liv noticed how Luda had been looking for her boyfriend pretty much during the whole damn night, and it was something that was starting to annoy her. Liv tried to be as professional as possible, but she also had her limits, especially if someone tried to get into her relationship.

However, Hoshi's comment made the choreographer laugh. “Did you seriously just use that expression? You know I can't just show up there, there are too many people."

Just as Seventeen’s main dancer was trying to convince his friend to go put the other girl in her place, Wonwoo sat between the two.

"I want to leave." He commented sounding highly overwhelmed. "I just wanted to go to the bathroom, but I ended up running into people who I don't know who they are, but who said hello to me."

"Dude, what the fuck? You can't be that introverted your whole life." Hoshi reply.

"Leave him alone, he's not an attention seeker like you," despite Liv was intending to defend Wonwoo, she did not look at him, her eyes were fixed on her boyfriend. Not even when Hoshi demanded an apology did Liv pay attention.

“What's up, Liv? Is Hoshi already drunk and you're planning to change seats with someone else?” Wonwoo asked.

“I have nothing to do with this. Your friend and his fan girl are responsible.” He said pointing at I.M and Luda.

“Oh, come on! You can't be serious. They're nothing, I think there was no more than one date.”

"WHAT?" Liv asked loud enough for other members of Seventeen to look at her strangely. “Kyun told me that nothing happened!” Hearing that, Wonwoo covered his face with his hands, he had screwed up.

"Shit…"

"Wonwoo, explain yourself right now or Liv will make us all pay tomorrow with those practices where I can't even feel my legs," Hoshi begged.

“It was nothing, they just went to eat something. It was so insignificant that I don't remember when it happened." The rapper tried to explain while swallowing hard, the look of his choreographer was scary.

"See, Liv? That's why I tell you that you must go mark your territory!"

"And I told you I can't just show up!"

Feeling guilty for making everything worse, Wonwoo believed he could help. "Changkyun is my friend, everyone knows it, it won't be strange if we go say hello."

Liv thanked him because in a few moments she was already close to her boyfriend, who smiled tenderly at her. Totally different from how he had behaved towards Luda, I.M immediately pulled out a chair for Liv to sit in at the same time Wonwoo sat next to him.

"Well... just pretend I'm not there." Wonwoo said, but before turning around a bit, he tried to make his friend see his expression and understand that he had done something stupid.

"Hi, gorgeous." I.M greeted with his low voice. "You didn't tell me you would wear the dress that I gave you," he said practically in his girlfriend's ear.

"And you didn't tell you had dated Luda."

"What are you talking about, baby?" The rapper's question explained itself, as Wonwoo turned around to apologize and make I.M understand that it was his fault.

However, the couple knew they couldn't talk for long and the last thing they wanted was to argue, so they both tacitly agreed to stop the matter at least for the moment.

“How's everything so far? Those producers you were talking to are big fish."

“Now that you mention it, I was planning to tell you at home but... guess what." She teased with a mischievous smile. "Some of them were talking about your second album, they said they were expecting to get an invitation from you to work together.”

"Really?"

Probably on another occasion Changkyun would not have believed what his girlfriend said, he would have doubted his talent, but the time he spent working on himself, and the security that Liv transmitted to him, made him smile. Despite being proud of his work, he was still pretty shy, but Liv found it adorable to see his ears blush a little, it even managed to make her forget about the other girl.

"Of course! I told them that since I had already worked with you, I was sure that you would exceed their expectations."

Changkyun gawked at her, his gaze would tell anyone who saw them how much in love he was with Liv, but before losing his mind over her and taking her hand, someone interrupted them.

“Changkyun, let's go. Picture time.” Joon Hyung didn't just tell him that, he also waited beside I.M for him to stand up.

“Does it have to be now, hyung? They are photographing the girls.”

"You are next, let's go." He repeated.

I.M knew that the only thing the manager wanted was for him not to be sitting around talking to Liv. Joon Hyung was not entirely wrong, and Olivia knew it, she had already sensed several gazes on them. Therefore, she agreed with the man, and with a smile for her rapper, she got up first.

Fortunately, Kihyun was already walking toward the girl, which allowed I.M to go a bit calmer.

“Liv, Wonwoo, hi!” The singer greeted. "Are you already leaving?"

“We just came to say hello to Changkyun, but he had to leave because they had to take some shots of him,” Wonwoo explained.

"Pictures of him alone?" It wasn't normal for the managers to call a member apart, plus Monsta X had already been photographed together, hence, Kihyun looked for the maknae and found him posing with Luda. "I hope that photograph doesn't come to light, I'm done with rumors." Kihyun commented while Wonwoo looked at his choreographer out of the corner of his eye.

Despite being genuinely introverted, the Seventeen rapper tried hard to start a conversation that had nothing to do with I.M and his colleague. Fortunately for him, Jooheon approached with another member of Seventeen and the conversation was much more fluid.

Finally, in the apartment, Changkyun had been playing with his cat while Olivia finished removing her makeup. "You looked stunning tonight." He commented taking the cat down so he could hug Liv in such a way that he rested his chin on her shoulder. "I like you better this way though." He said causing the girl to laugh a little. “Baby, about Luda, that was nothing. We are from the same company, I have known her for some time, and we have bumped into each other in the cafeteria.”

"Did you go on a date with her?"

“It was only once, and absolutely nothing happened. I would not even call it a date. I was not interested in dating, Liv, I was waiting for you. I know that we weren't together, but I trusted you would come back."

Olivia remembered Kihyun's words when she and Changkyun were just starting to date and her brother had warned her about what kind of person the youngest of the group was. Changkyun's nature was to give his soul and heart to the people he loved, and all the time together proved that to Liv. Without doubting her boyfriend, she closed to the rapper and, taking his hands, kissed them.

Running his thumb delicately over Olivia's lower lip, I.M smirked. “Were you seriously jealous? YOU jealous?

"No... I just don't like you to hide things from me and you hadn't told me that."

"Liv, you're terrible at lying! You're even worse than me," he said laughing.

“Yeah, right... You still get sensible when you see me talking to Hoshi. Now that I think about it, you get upset with all the dancers I work with!”

"Where do you get those ideas?"

"Last time I told you I was going to eat with Astro's members you made such a scene that I had to call Jooheon to calm you down."

"Bullshit..." He said lying down and stretching his arms in such a way that his shirt allowed Liv to admire his abs. "I could never be mad at you for hanging out with them, Jinjin is one of my best friends."

"Oh, the irony! Jinjin himself told me that you are ridiculously annoying and that you asked him not to let Moonbin get any closer than necessary." She responded by bringing her hand to her boyfriend's firm stomach. A light touch from Liv was enough for I.M to close his eyes and sigh.

“He was lying”

"Kyun, admit it, you're more jealous than me."

"Nope…"

“Okay, then I'm glad to hear that because today I got a juicy offer. I was offered to take over the choreography for Moonbin's solo debut. They also want me to appear with him in the video.”

"WHAT?"

The speed with which I.M opened his eyes and sat back up provoked Liv to cover her lips to keep from laughing. Being calm was I.M's thing, staying calm and not exaggerating any emotion was a typical characteristic of the rapper, so seeing him react like that was truly comical.

However, more important than his jealousy was his concern for Liv's health. "Why more work, Olivia? You’re already in charge of Seventeen, you also have that new group, and from time to time you work with Astro. I don't want to see you with a burn-out."

"Kyun, you know that I don't work alone, I have amazing dancers creating the choreographies with me."

"And what about your knee? Baby, you need that surgery."

It took Olivia a long time to convince Changkyun that her knee was fine and that the doctor had told her that she could still wait a little longer before surgery, for now, the therapies were enough. However, once she assured him that she could handle the workload, the jealousy returned.

"You could just do the choreography, why does he want you in the video?"

"It was not only a request of Moonbin." She clarified. "His company thought it would be a good idea, that way I wouldn't have to train anyone because I would know all the moves."

"Well, obviously it's a good idea, you're perfect." He mumbled crossing his arms.

When it came to spoiled boyfriends, Changkyun was the king of them. He was used to receiving all of Olivia's attention, so having to share it was something he hated. Even so, they had never argued about it, the rapper's claims used to be more tender than serious, and that was precisely what happened that night. Trying not to make the problem bigger, Changkyun mumbled, or rather, complained to his cat as he played with him and ignored what Liv was trying to tell him.

I.M agreed to pay attention to her until Olivia sat in front of him and cupped his face. "I haven't signed anything yet, they just offered it to me today at dinner. It could be a good opportunity, but if you don't..."

“You know what would be a better opportunity? That you appear with me in my next video.”

"Kyun, I'd love to, and you know I'd do it without thinking if it didn't mean a problem for your career."

“It wouldn't be so weird, Liv. You are a great choreographer, just as Moonbin wants you for his video, another singer could ask you for the same thing, and that could be me.”

“Do you really think we can hide what we feel for each other? Because I don't think so." She said playing with the rapper's dark hair.

"Maybe if they let me make love to you in the video, we wouldn't have a problem." He joked leaning close to Liv's neck and slowly spreading kisses. "Do it, take the opportunity. You're too good for people not to see you. BUT if he gets any closer than necessary, I'll kill him, Olivia." He warned before losing himself in the body of the choreographer.

The next day while Changkyun slept, Liv got up, took a bath and when she was ready to go out, she came over to kiss her boyfriend's forehead, who was turning around looking for her and making unintelligible sounds. However, Olivia had already learned to decipher what I.M said in those moments in which it was impossible to know if he was asleep or not.

“Baby, don't you remember? I told you I'd have breakfast with Jules. When I get back, we'll go to my parents' house."

“Tell her hi,” he said hugging the pillow Liv used. "Don't come back late, I've missed you so much."

With a smile on her face, the girl left the apartment. Being so early, she managed to get quickly to where her friend was waiting for her. Jules had already ordered coffee for both of them, and knowing Liv so well, she had also ordered breakfast.

"Oh! I've never met someone more efficient. Ki doesn't know what I like to eat and Kyun spends hours looking at the menu, even if we go to the same places and order the same thing, I swear he always does it."

"I figured you wouldn't have much time, you told me you're leaving town today."

"Yes, I'm desperate to do it."

Just as Julianne was about to reply to her friend, she was checking something on her cell phone, in fact, she was about to block it when she saw a picture that had just been uploaded. Her first instinct was to read the news, but if there was anyone who would be interested, it was Liv, since it was about her boyfriend.

"Liv, did you see the picture they took of Changkyun from yesterday?"

"What are you talking about?"

Jules handed over her cell phone and Liv even felt her stomach churn with anger at seeing I.M with Luda, and it wasn't just that, but also the title of the news, which hinted that they were both dating.

“Yesterday we talked about this…” Liv said with a sigh. “Apparently they went out once, he says nothing happened between them and I believe him, but she won't leave him alone. Jules, she chased him all night.”

“If she's bothering you, I can handle it. I can totally take care of this, in fact, I promise I'll scare her so much that she'll never come near her again."

Olivia laughed because she knew that her friend was capable of doing it, since the first time Jooheon introduced Jules to Liv, the dancer knew how brave she was.

“It's not that simple, and it's not just about her. I.M wants to make our relationship public.”

"And you don't want the same?"

“Of course I do! But I’m worried about what this might bring to his image. Can you imagine how people would react if they find out about you and Jooheon?”

“But we're not engaged, Liv, you are. You should be able to plan your wedding in peace and enjoy all of that properly.”

“I know it, and believe me, I want to do it too, but I’d like us to first think about how to do everything. The managers don’t like me very much, and I don't blame them, it hasn't been easy to deal with all this.”

"Fuck them! It's your relationship, not theirs."

Liv's jaw dropped at hearing her friend speak that way. Julianne used to be so polite and discreet that it wasn't common to hear her say things like that, but the girl was right, Monsta X managers didn't have to own that much control over the members and their private lives.

After a while, Liv also told her friend about the video with Moonbin and her boyfriend's reaction.

"Well, then there are several things to control, first that bitch, second your boyfriend's jealousy, third, Moonbin's dirty hands in that video, and fourth the noses that managers want to stick in everything."

"Jules, what's up with you today?" Liv asked laughing a lot and deciding that the best thing would be to change the matter or her friend would go to fight with the first person she found on the street. “Let’s talk about museums, paintings, and those things you like.”

A few days after returning from Olivia's parents' house, Monsta X had a photo shoot. Liv had rushed in to watch the session, with all due caution, of course. The choreographer had stayed behind with Hyungwon, Jooheon, and Kihyun while the photographers worked with the maknae.

"Look at him, anyone who sees those pictures would think he's a badass." Jooheon joked.

"Badass, yeah right! We're talking about the same kid who was crying all over the place because Liv left him."

"Ki, don't be rude!" The girl said hitting him in the arm. “But you're right about something, Kyun is not like that. Do you want to see something funny?”

Kihyun, Jooheon, and Hyungwon saw Liv's mischievous look and nodded right there.

Being very careful not to be seen, Olivia took off the mask she was wearing, and moving a little from where she was, she placed herself in a spot where I.M. could see her. Once she had her boyfriend's attention, the girl winked at him and blew him a kiss. That was enough for Changkyun to turn so red that they had to fix his makeup countless times. In addition, when it was his turn to pose with the decoration that was next to him, he threw everything else on more than one occasion.

While that was happening, Jooheon, Kihyun, and Hyungwon laughed with Liv. For the guys, Changkyun would always be the baby of the group, and for Olivia, there was no one more adorable than him.

“Oh, look at him! He's finally smiling!" Hyungwon commented. “Since his photo with Luda came out, he has been more serious than usual.”

“Yes, dealing with Joon Hyung and Deok Joon has been somewhat chaotic,” Jooheon said as Kihyun nodded.

"I asked him to ignore that."

"Well, he didn't listen to you, little sister, he ordered that they clarify all those rumors immediately."

"I.M’s right, he has nothing to do with that girl, he is engaged to Liv, he doesn't have to put up with being related to someone else."

"Hyungwon, you know how this industry works, the rumors never stop even if the companies speak out," Jooheon said.

"Well, they could do better, I.M had every right to demand that clarification, now everyone's talking about it." Seeing Liv's face, Hyungwon placed his hand on her shoulder and smiled at her. “You don't have to feel bad, none of this is your fault and I want you to know that we all support your boyfriend. Shownu himself asked Deok Joon to help, after all, he's the most approachable. But he didn't get anything, he said to ignore this gossip and it will pass soon."

"It surprises me that this photograph was leaked, the guy who took it didn't sell it to anyone, there's evidence of that." Jooheon said.

“Do you think it was Luda? Her popularity went up quite a bit after that.” Kihyun mentioned.

"Changkyun should investigate more, what's more, not even him, Starship should take care of this and not allow the rumors to continue," Hyungwon said starting to get annoyed.

"After what happened with Wonho, are you still optimistic?" Kihyun asked ending the conversation because I.M was already walking towards them and his ears were still so red that it made everyone laugh.

“That wasn't funny, Liv! I was lousy in all the photographs.”

"You looked more handsome than ever!" Liv was controlling herself not to hug him, for the couple had the eyes of Joon Hyung and Deok Joon fixed on them.

“When you are recording your video, I swear I'll come and do the same to you.”

"It won't work, I don't embarrass myself so easily." She said winking at the same time that Changkyun imitated her and Kihyun looked at them feeling ashamed.

“How old are you two, fifteen? Behave.” Said the singer separating them.

The creation of the choreography for Moonbin as well as the video shooting happened extremely quickly. Since Liv had worked with the idol before and knew how good dancer he was, it didn't take long for her to teach him the moves. As for the video recordings, I.M accompanied her but stayed on the sidelines with Jinjin, who continuously told him to relax and stop being so jealous. The video was very sexy and in several shots the closeness between Liv and Moonbin was more than Changkyun could tolerate. However, he controlled himself because I.M knew that it was a unique opportunity for Liv, and it really was, as soon as the video came out, many people were talking not only about the idol but also about her.

The collaboration had been so successful that Kihyun insisted on celebrating his sister and thus organized a dinner. However, there was a moment in which I.M just disappeared. It had been a long time since Liv had been alone with the boys and Jules, but her boyfriend was nowhere to be seen.

After apologizing to Minhyuk, since he was the one she was talking to at the time, the girl left the apartment, thinking that maybe I.M was in the garden, but there she only found Wonho and Shownu.

“Liv! What are you doing here? You are the star of the night.” Wonho said hugging her affectionately. “We were about to enter again.”

"I was looking for Kyun, have you seen him?"

"The last time I saw him, he told me he was going to get something out of the car." Shownu replied.

Even though the car was tinted, Olivia only had to get a little closer to discover that her boyfriend was arguing with someone. She heard almost nothing because the windows and doors were closed, but from the look on his face and the way he moved his hands, it was clear how furious he was.

It wasn't until Liv knocked on the door that Changkyun noticed her presence and seeing her there, he ended the call and tried to calm down before getting out of the car.

"Baby, what's up?" She asked hugging him as soon as he was close. The tension that the rapper had could be felt just by brushing his shoulders. "Did you argue with Deok Joon again?"

“Let's not talk about this, it's your night, we're celebrating." He kissed her forehead, but before he could leave, Liv took his hand, and just looking at him made him apologize. It wasn't that easy for Changkyun to forget about his bad communication habits, so sometimes he needed a little more help. “I want to clear up this whole Luda thing, I don't want any more rumors. And if my managers don't do it, then I will."

"It's just a photograph."

"Baby, you were the first to clarify that there was absolutely nothing between you and Hoshi when the rumors started a long time ago, you understand how I feel, so why don't you let me...?"

“It's not about giving you authorization, Kyun, I just want you to think things through. But if you want to do it, I'll support you.”

I.M was silent for a moment, but then he looked at his girl and put his arms around her. Taking advantage of the closeness, he spoke into her ear. “I'm not going to do it just because it could affect you. I don't want them to talk about you, or persecute you."

“I can take it.”

“I know, but I don't want you to do that, at least not yet. Let's talk about this later, it's your night."

The couple was entering the room when they found a scene they had NEVER seen before. Everyone, absolutely all his friends were silent and too serious, all looking at a cell phone.

"What's going on?" Changkyun asked.

“Better sit down…” Jooheon said.

Lmao, tbh, I find objectivity rarely works in ships (or real relationships). People gonna like who they like. I also personally think a character like Silco has left happiness in the romantic sense far behind - the closest he comes to joy is through Zaun's evolution, and greater still, through Jinx, who teaches him the meaning of selfless love and self-sacrifice<3

Re: the ships, however...

tw: unhealthy dynamics and conflict

Mel and Silco come from two diametrically opposite worlds. A lot of their inbuilt traumas will also trigger the other (Silco reminding Mel of her mother at his worst; Mel reminding Silco of Piltover's hubris at her haughtiest). They could either inspire each other to be wiser and more merciful people - or they could absolutely tear each other down. In a relationship, they'd likely have clashes of opinion. Often.

At their pettiest, they'd play mindgames, paired with cold war tactics. Worst case? He'd reduce her poise to tears. She'd mutate his control into ragefrothing.

More positively, in softer moments, she'd be a stable guiding light and good source of counsel, since she understands the burdens of leadership. In turn, he'd demonstrate how ruthlessness means protecting those closest to you by keeping them at your side, not banishing them because they 'weaken' you. She'd value the devotion, and they'd be a force to reckon with in a political arena.

As per my own headcanon, they'd be compatible but a little mismatched in the bedroom. Mel is more into the delicacy and artistry of lovemaking. Silco is more about control games and unraveling his paramours. His drive is also higher than hers, which would make her feel a little off-balance from time to time. Plus side: they'd, er, bone up each other's techniques and expand their repertoires to please one another :)

Sevika and Silco have a completely different dynamic. For one, they're from the same background and share a history. She also has more context for certain behaviors of his, and vice versa, since she's either witnessed or experienced them herself. Then there's the shared goal of Zaun, which is why they're even working side-by-side. To achieve it, they'd grit their teeth and put up with alot.

It's about the end, not the means.

Unlike Melco, there'd be plenty of day-to-day bickering. But a full knock-down drag-out fight would be a rarity. They also don stone-cold professional personas in public, and are good at compartmentalizing, which makes them less prone to overstep boundaries. Sentiment is kept in check, unless it's an emergency.

Bedroom-wise, Sevika can take and dish out his brand of violence with equal relish. He may find her a bit too rough around the edges and downright uncouth sometimes. But since they share a socioeconomic background, he'll shrug it off, and she'll occasionally mock him for being hoity-toity. They also share an enjoyment for unmitigated nastiness in all its forms. Their kinks are well-aligned.

tl;dr re: Melco vs Sevilco - happiness is in the eye of the shipper.

don’t know if you’ve already talked about this but how do you think gerri actually feels about roman? and roman about gerri for that matter?

Okay first and foremost, I believe that Roman is primarily attracted to what she subconciously represents to him which is his father asserting dominance over him, accepting Roman's inhernt inferiority and therefore protecting him but, also appreciating him in an emotional way as well. This is true sexually as well as emotionally since I don't believe Roman would be able to separate those anyway. Second, I do believe that he enjoys spending time with her and the flirtatious banter they engage in. Like, I think that's fun for him. I also think that Roman does genuinely see Gerri as being very efficient, capable and powerul yet underappreciated. I don't think Roman's attraction to people as father figures is inherently bad but, I think Roman's idealisation of his Real Father combined with her being a proxy rather than a proper Symbolic Father makes it so that he cannot truly appreciate her independently of Logan. Roman's attraction to father figures is primordial and will never go away. No amount of therapy can change that.

With Gerri it's a bit harder because she's only a secondary character so she primarily exists to serve the characterisation of the main cast. Still, she's well written and fleshed out enough that she never feels like a prop. I think that Gerri was initially interested in Roman professionally because, as one does in capitalism, she saw an opportunity in him to engineer an heir to would secure her position after Logan passes away. She chose Roman for a few reasons: 1) Desperate loser, basically asked her 2) isn't Connor and isn't Shiv who is uncooperative and antagonistic toward her 3) good corporate flirt (yes, she does find him Seductive). She knows how far that can get someone and it sets him apart from his charmless siblings. 4) decent instincts and grasp on the zeitgeist.

I think she went along with the dirty talk on the phone because in a way, she was seduced by Roman. Roman has a way of getting people to just... loosen their grip on their rational minds and give into emotions. This isn't to say I think Gerri is attracted to Roman in a normative sexual/romantic sense but, I think she likes the feeling of a Roy submitting to her and by extension, a part of Logan submitting to her. She likes the way Roman allows her to give into this irrational behaviour because she knows Roman won't see her as lesser since he's admitted to his (self-perceived) inferiority. Like basically, it's nice to cut loose once in a while.

Moreover, it's also nice to be appreciated because Logan himself doesn't show it. When she calls Roman a "bootleg Logan," it shows that she sees him as being like a cheaper, lower quality version of Logan. She's not wrong because while on a dumb level, you could say that she means that Roman is inexperienced and unrefined, I think it also refers to how Roman is a perversion of Logan himself. By that, I mean that Roman is a feminised version of him and to Gerri, that makes his open appreciation of and dependence on her a facsimile of Logan's which are far more conditional and are not openly expressed without ulterior motive.

Of course, Gerri does want him to actually be the heir. She doesn't want him to be That dependent on her, especially emotionally, because that's just impractical. I don't think she wanted to just control Roman the whole time. That's more what he wanted. She wanted him to become capable but still dependent on her if only through debt for getting him there. It's a liability for him to continually make decisions based on emotion, to develop an attachment on that level. Her primary interest is still maintaining her position which aligned with what she assumed was his goal, to inherit the chair and CEO position. She saw Roman's chaotic behaviour as him losing focus of his interests but, he was acting in his interests which are primarily emotional rather than professional.

[tw: emotional abuse mention, cursing] Is there anyone here who cares about equity and justice for creatives?

I've had a recent call with my emotionally abusive father regarding AI in writing.

I told him that despite thinking that AI has the potential to help inspire creatives, its use can never be ethical under Capitalism since big corporations are trying to use AI to get rid of human writing (which requires actually paying people) to further their profit.

He completely ignored me and told me that I "was just sticking with one side and needed to listen to all sides before believing in something", which I know is just him projecting what he does himself onto me and is him guilt-tripping me for not being an ideological copy-paste of his exact belief system.

When I tried to reason with him, he gave me the cold shoulder and hung up in a hissy fit like a passive-aggressive ninth grader who just broke up with his partner because he only wanted someone to control and bully for some sense of superiority and power and wasn't actually ready for the responsibilities of a romantic relationship.

You can't exactly "both sides" the exploitation of human lives for corporate profit, though I'm not surprised that he's anti-creative since he's also staunchly anti-union and believes that, and I quote, that

"the Starbucks employees are just pretending to suffer because they're being told to",

specifically in regard to the employees being overworked and union-busted relentlessly by Starbucks.

Wow. Un-fucking-believable.

He clearly doesn't care if I end up losing access to any possible job or career and falling into impoverishment and suffering all because the world would rather see the rich get richer than work towards equity and justice for all.

What's worse is that almost everyone I know has that same attitude, that "you need to stop being such a party pooper about AI because human creatives aren't real professionals that can be exploited by leeching capital-owning cronies so you shit-for-brains can go suffer for all I care".

It's starting to feel like no one cares about human creatives anymore and like no one cares to see our value in helping shape the minds of generations to come to help work towards equity and justice for all.

I'd like to ask you this, then. (You don't have to answer the poll if you don't want to)

I haven't had the time to answer this up until now, but I'm excited to talk about Mimi more!

🌳What physical traits did they inherit from their biological parents? Do they look more like one parent than the other?

Mitsumi looks like the perfect blend of her mother and father, though physically she resembles her mother in the face more, she's quite short like her dad. She got her dad's curly blond hair, but her mom's sharp green eyes. Her dad also gave her little freckles and MUCH darker skin than her mother. They also share a smile, which is quite jarring to see. She inherited most of her mother's mannerisms and ideology, which is how she can remain so happy even with what she goes through.

🖌️What is their go-to hobby? When did they start learning it? Why do they like it?

She loves all kinds of music, but her favorite thing to do is play the violin. She picked it up when she was about nine years old and has been playing professionally ever since. While she does resent playing for shows, she really does love playing for fun. When she needs to relieve stress, she picks up her violin half her age, closes her eyes, and lets herself get lost in the music. It brings her a sense of freedom, control, and peace she doesn't get anywhere else.

🤲Do they have deep desires that they don't talk about and/or don't even realize they have? Do these desires conflict with their main goal at all?

Truly? Deeply, she just wants to have a real family. She doesn't tell anyone, because her past is painful, and it aches to talk about. That's all she wants, though, and I don't think she realizes that's what she wants. She's so hard focused on finding her biological family, that she doesn't realize she can make a family all on her own. She HAS a family that loves her already at NRC.

🌹Are they experienced romantically? How many partners have they had? How has this affected their view of romance?

She's dated one other guy and had a flood of admirers. Her relationship wasn't exactly healthy, since she seems to attract toxic people into her life. He wasn't physically abusive, but he did manipulate and control her a lot. She left him shortly before moving off to college, and he killed himself because of it. It still haunts her to this day, and she's afraid to really fall in love with someone ever again.

😍What traits, physical and/or mental, do they find attractive in other people?

She likes people who are smart and crafty. They have to have a good head on their shoulders and have a sense that they know what they want for themselves. However, they still have to be kind and caring enough (to her, specifically). Someone who can sympathize with her and her struggles. She also loves a nerd! Someone who can unabashedly love what they love is her favorite type of person.

Physically, she likes people taller than her (it's not hard, she's 5'0"). She finds people with dyed hair/"unnatural" hair colors the most interesting. Preferably white, whether is dyed or not doesn't matter. She likes blue and brown eyes the most, and likes it when her partner has freckles or beauty marks or dimples or ANYTHING other than the perfect industry standard you see on idols and stuff.

You know, I’ve been thinking about this ever since I watched Star Trek SNW and reading Star Trek TOS fics. From how I gather, most people assumed that Captain Pike’s captain-ship was more professional, less friendly banter and more no none sense job to do.

Fair, considering what we have of the TOS pilot and what we would have undoubtedly gotten if Pike continued as TOS captain. Jim automatically showed signs of being a more lighthearted and friendly captain, albeit, more confident and no none sense when he had to.

Now though?? Now Pike looks the equivalent of a dad watching over his kids?? He has moments together with his entire bridge crew and Spock, well you can see why Spock risked everything for the man, even Kirk’s trust to save him from a hellish living.

Kirk on the other hand does look like he keeps more to himself! He is friendly with all his people, cares about all his people, but he seems downright unsociable next to Pike. Not participating in any gathering outside of Spock and McCoy and rare moments with Scotty! (Though I believe we got more moments between Kirk and Scotty later on). And we know Kirk constantly struggles with feelings of loneliness. Of not being able to be too close with his crew due to being their captain.

The show usually plays it on Kirk not being able to have romantic entanglements, which is also true. But it extends to his friendships aboard, never wanting to look anything but the picture of confidence. His crew look up to him, he’s charismatic, confident, and compassionate but he’s also out of their reach. Constantly being placed on a pedestal.

What I find really appealing about this is that it makes him MORE alike to Spock than we originally thought (or at least I thought). Him and Spock are both dealing with feelings of loneliness, not fitting in, though Kirk masks it better. And we can only presume Spock has once again gone the way of repressing his emotions by the start of Kirk’s captaincy.

Taking control of his emotions while witnessing Pike’s destiny unfold, his engagement with T’Pring souring, the awkwardness that becomes his friendship with Christine and who knows what happens to the rest. In current SNW, Spock is attempting to reconcile his Vulcan side with his Human one, compared to TOS, where he attempts to ignore his human side all together.

Meanwhile, Kirk is possibly dealing with untreated PTSD from Tarsus IV. The survivors guilt that constantly haunts him and the general arms length he keeps people in except for a few exceptions that made his way. He doesn’t keep relationships, no doubt because eventually his lover realizes Kirk can’t get too close to them and so they leave. Kirk eventually uses the Enterprise as a reason for his lack of attachment, but between Kirk being a “stack of books with legs” as a cadet, a no none sense teacher and his quick rise to captaincy it paints a picture of an obvious workaholic.

For Kirk, his career is the wall between him and finally finding that inner peace and courage to love someone. A rank up to Admiral made sense for Kirk’s career, but as he quickly found out it didn’t make sense for the love he’d already begun to feel for his crew and especially Spock. For Spock, it’s his “Vulcan side” that leads him to purge all his emotions. But as we know, he could not go through with it and found his way back to Kirk despite what his Vulcan teachings tell him.

Anyway, so Spock and Kirk get married after The Motion Picture and that’s that.

Hello. Would you mind talking about your writing process? Do you have detailed notes on what each chapter is going to be? Or is it more like a rough outline? Is the whole story plotted out before you begin writing or do you plot as you go along? Like you said in the comments of chapter 18 of Quantum, having Laira pilot Discovery required setup, so obviously you had to plot at least a few chapters in advance. Just wondering how elaborate you are with planning your story. Thanks.

I am thrilled to talk about it. I have a very rough outline, and most of it isn't even written down, it's messy thoughts where I ramble at @whimsicalli and @aleksandrachaev because they help me workshop (figure it out).

My darling @mylittleredgirl calls me the babyfic specialist, and it's my favorite fanfic genre because it takes the characters on such a journey. I usually figure out what the journey is emotionally before I work out the plot.

Philippa's in Firefly was all about learning how to be a person in this strange soft universe, how it was all right to be supported, have a family, care about people. How she could help the crew in return.

Laira and Michael have a journey together, and their own paths emotionally.

Under a read more because it got long.

Michael has to balance being the captain and her personal life. She had a hard time doing that with Book (not in the months before the DMA, though there are hints there) but especially afterwards. Michael will put Starfleet first, because that's who she is, so anyone she were to be with romantically has to balance that. I loove her with Laira because their commitment to the Federation/Starfleet is equally intense. They have their callings and their increidlbe at what they do, so working out how they'd balance that together is fun.

Michael's emotional side is the more complicated one. Michael will undoubtedly be an incredible parent, but I don't know if she believes that. Parebts, especially mothers, are complicated for her. Gabrielle's emotionally distant (even when Michael's a child, her dad seems like he's the emotionally accessible one). Michael knows how to love like her dad, but there's doubt. Her career is intense and demanding, and Grabrille has not chosen Michael. How does Michael chose? How does she make sure her child is loved and safe?

Caretaking is easy for Michael. She's such a good partner, so that part is an easy starting point. Michael as a partner is an easy one. She's incredible. Michael's arc gets harder at the end. How is she going to be as a parent? How can she make sure she's here for the Hitchhiker? What doubts does she have? How does she make sure she'll be as good of a parent as she needs to be? Michael's standards are SO high, and she'll have to share herself with the ship and her crew.

Being taken care of is something Laira seems terrible at. Their scene together in Episode 10 - it's around 43:30 - is just one of my favorite things and is my starting point. Laira is about to lose everyone she cares about, and she puts it aside. Doesn't talk about it, doesn't seek support with it. Laira takes her feelings and puts them aside. She doesn't think about what she needs, she wants to help her partner and her mother's family.

This is different from Michael, Michael can ask for what she needs: the yelling with Saru in episode 12, being honest about her feelings - Michael is steady, she's aware of herself. Laira is not. Laira doesn't realize she wants to control the knowledge of Earth-Ni'Var threat because she's controlling her own feelings. She's not that aware of herself. (she's fun that way).

Laira's arc is being able to ask for what she needs, being willing to let Michael and the crew look after her, balancing who she is s a person (the crossword puzzles, the pilot, her sense of humor) with the professional side of her life. Michael knows she has the crew around her and the crew will look after each other, it's a wonderful set up with her and the crew. Laira seems very alone. (Vance is great, and she has good staff, but emotionally Laira's alone, especially about her personal life). Laira doesn't doubt who she'll be as a parent, she wants to do that, but knowing she doesn't have to do it alone, that she'll have back up, that it's all right if she needs support, is important for her. The end is easier than the beginning, so she'll be able to help Michael with what she needs. (I liked the idea of them swapping).

Finding the little things that make Laira happy and fulfilled outside of holding the galaxy together is important. Piloting is something she enjoyed, that she's good at, that she rarely gets to do.

I wanted Laira to fly Discovery at some point. Keyla's a better pilot so it would have to be more of a puzzle than a "life and death" situation for Discovery. Piloting a freighter is different than flying a Starfleet ship, so she'd have to practice. Keyla training her was a nice character beat, because I love the idea of them bonding over the flying the ship and being friends.

I needed time for that. I planned on the return to the 10-C as being a slower trip because they could get stuck in a the barrier for a week or two, and spend more time visiting the joyous jellyfish lads (as a friend calls the 10-C). The jump drive means Disco doesn't spend days and weeks travelling between planets like Enterprise-D would, so I have to be aware of how to build in time. (Making time pass as characters develop is one of the hard parts of a fic where someone is pregnant).

Michael needed to spend time on Discovery not as the captain to confront how much she missed it. Laira needed to spend time on Discovery to talk to the crew, get to know them on another level. So that trip (I think it's chapter 10-12) was the time to let Laira learn to fly the ship. It's a good distraction, and I think Keyla's a really good teacher). Keyla teaching Laira could put the idea that Dicovery could be a training ship into Michael's head.

Discovery being a mix between official ship of the president and training ship for cadets/scientists was the best way to let Michael be captain and parent and give them space to be together without losing what they do.

I have little seeds of what I want to happen at the end and work my way there slowly.

The end had to be Laira, Michael and HH live on Discovery without either of them giving up their positions. Discovery has a significantly less dangerous mission, and Tilly comes back was my ending place. Tilly is an incredible teacher, so bringing her and the cadets onto the ship was important.

To get to there I had to make spore drives more common, so Discovery doesn't have to respond to every distress call. That meant Stamets and Reno could work on a new version while Laira was pregnant, finish it somewhere in the middle.

The cadets could come in slowly. It made sense to include them on diplomatic missions so Michael and Laira would need a diplomatic mission.

Visiting all the planets of the Federation made sense because it would take forever. there are 60+ worlds, if they spend three-four days at each, that's six-eight months. Throw in few small crises and that gets us to the end.

Laira has to pilot the ship meant Keyla had to go somewhere for awhile. If Keyla was in mild danger, that's a good reason for Joann and her to move on in their relationship, and Joann deal with the emotional beat of "I have to be a leader while the person I love is in danger". With the state of the world lately, quarantine fit.

I'd mentioned Laira's mother dying of a fever, so bringing that back was a painful emotional beat. I couldn't let Michael get sick, but Keyla could. That meant Keyla would have another perspective on the problems with tying to contain the disease on Andoria, and Michael would feel guilty (it's not her in danger, it's someone she loves). That was good emotionally.

To get to there I had to mention the disease spreading, send Michael and Keyla off the ship so they could be exposed without worrying about endangering Laira or the rest of the crew. So they needed a problem to solve, and sending them away was fun for Laira bonding with the crew in Michael's absence. So all of that came from "I need Keyla to be gone for a bit so Laira can fly the ship".

Which is a somewhat disordered method, but it works for me.

I have to fit a few other things in to get to the end: how do they want to reveal the pregnancy, what's Laira's family like, how to Michael and Gabrielle get to a better place, what is Laira's partner like...

That's what I'm trying to figure out now.

Ok but really W was in England a couple of months ago and now it seems in Ireland.. why is now one questioning what job he has coz really?!? And M? Beloved long time dream bar?! She moved to by to be with her husband for the birth is their child they say, well understandable mom's take maternity leave.. but in this case said husband was busy like 24/7 so again bar? What bar?! What a coincidence isn't it that these two so's seem to have absolutely nothing to do

Its truly just the most incredible coincidence that two of the hardest working highly talented young men you'll see are both tied to SO who couldn't be lazier or less their professional equals if you tried. I have absolutely no idea what it is that W does for a living since he seems to do even less work than M, if that's humanly possible (it shouldn't be). I've heard he's supposed to be some kind of writer or something along those lines, but other than trailing C around, I don't know what it is he does and I don’t think I’m alone with that thought. And where have I heard that before? The only difference between them is that prior to the last couple of months, we didn't see W all that much - at least in comparison to M. C seemed content to keep their "relationship" on the DL, which sounds like him and seemed to fit. We'd get the occasional pic, but there was almost always a 3rd or 4th party present and it always felt more like a bunch of friends hanging out than anything romantic; I've never once gotten that boyfriends vibe from them at all. And if you really think its just a coincidence that we suddenly started getting tons of pics - comparatively speaking - of them right after the baby news dropped (ugh hopefully that metaphor has died), well then, bless your heart. You don’t just wake up one morning, do a personality 180, and decide to publicly share the details of your life that you’d previously kept to yourself, especially considering his SM accounts have a much more authentically C feel to them. He seems to have more control over what’s posted and for the most part, they are used to promote his work and his career and not his SO. Plus they are generally in English and make sense and aren't the drunken gibberish we’ve unfortunately come to expect from D’s accounts. And we aren’t bombarded with articles about how cool W is and you don’t have C’s entire team trying to sell an ever changing timeline while pushing a couple narrative that seems to always contradict said timeline. I still roll my eyes at it but it doesn’t fill me with the “FFS here we go again” annoyance that I get with D.

That god awful bar has been an albatross around D’s neck since before it opened and we’ve watched him waste far too much of his time over the years promoting it. If its her life long dream, tell her to get off her ass and do the work herself. He can't make the point that this is her bar any clearer. If she wanted this so much, why didn’t she just open the bar herself? Its not like she was busy with anything and her family is wealthy and connected, so what was stopping her from getting this off the ground? Could it be that no one outside of her little stans would care that MS opened a bar? No one outside of D’s fandom has any idea who she is - why would they - so that limits the pool of people you can immediately attract as customers. But with D’s name and his fame behind it and with it being billed as “theirs,” all of a sudden, you have a huge base to continuously sell to. So the badass businesswoman gets free press for her strip bar while someone else does all the work to keep it afloat. She’s been in NYC since March and probably hasn’t even given that place a second thought, much like she does when she shadows D to events for weeks at a time all around the world. Such dedication. And most new parents who take maternity leave use that time to bond with their baby and figure out how to keep it alive. She was out and about in the city the same week the baby was born and has been spotted numerous times since at bars and late night parties and spent the entire Tonys weekend living it up. July 4th concert at the capitol? Babysitter in the hotel room it is! She’s at the AB closing party making sure that she’s seen because the party wouldn’t count otherwise. And like always, D’s SO is the only one who feels the need to make a spectacle of herself. Its the same eye rolling bullshit we’ve been watching for the past 5 years, only now its even more obvious that her priorities are her and her siphoned “fame” because what kind of person so readily abandons their newborn for things they don't really need to be at? The baby is a prop to her and an attention getter and I sincerely hope they are at least keeping her inside in the air conditioned hotel right now since the UK is melting and her safety is more important than posing for cutesy little family pics that are sent to and then shared by M’s promotional team.

I'm actually very strict in real life. When I am with my little sister, people often think that I am her mother because of how nurturing I am. It doesn't mean that I don't like to goof around, I actually enjoy it a lot! I have my own principles and I follow them. There are times I am very skeptical of everything and it shows on my face. Some people get scared of it, hence they run away before I can say a judging speech.

But this happens very rarely. If I am surrounded by good people (and there are a lot of them where I live), then there's no need for me to be skeptical.

I act calm if the person prefers to have calm conversations, and I can be silly if it's what my interlocutor is more comfortable with. Although, I get very loud when I make myself a fool.

✨I want to marry and have children, so, obviously, I want a man who values his family and wants to start one too. He has to be good with money (because I am bad at it) and he has to be very initiative to keep my attention on my goals instead of doing something else. He has to have a kind heart too!

✨I dislike it when people are indecisive. I hate this trait in myself, so I can't tolerate it in other people. I don't like it when people don't make sense and are greedy, money-grabbing. I prefer it if people are more humble. I like people who are very creative and think outside of the box. I like people who purposefully break stereotypes. I get along with shy people and I love them.

✨ My favorite romance tropes would be 'shy person x confident, sly person', 'huge man x little girl', and I love it when two characters are slowly falling in love while doing something together. And I ADORE it when a man acts like hopeless romantic while the woman is oblivious to his sincere affections and obvious pining — this trope is GOLD!

The first time you stumbled into you was at the town square in Mondstadt, you were taking care of your sister who had been pushed on the cobblestone by Timmie and was now crying.

He went over to you and inquired if you needed help with anything, which you at first declined but eventually asked him if it would be a bother if he could go fetch some ice for your sister's knee.

He gladly obliged and was quick to bring you some ice. That was where your first interaction ended and you didn't see him for a good amount of time until your paths crossed again a few weeks later.

You wanted to thank him for helping you with your sister's injury back then and thought about how you could repay him for it so you offered to buy him a drink. He agreed to it.

The longer you talked over your drinks the more you realized there was some chemistry between you two, which he too noticed. As the evening ended you both agreed that you should meet up again. Which you did.

He was the one to make the first move eventually, telling you that he has started to develop feelings for you and would like to pursure something more serious with you if you're willing (of course you agreed!).

You two would be perfect for each other not only because your horrible jokes actually crack him up (let's be real, Cyno level bad means that they're so bad they're funny again. An artform in itsself, so to speak).

He loves both your silly and your calm and serious side - you're basically the whole package and everyday feels like an adventure with you.

Like you he would like to have a family one day and would love to marry and have children.

Good with money? I mean, yeah. He's leading an entire wine empire, of course he is good with money.

He would be very supportive of you and your goals as well and would definitely make sure you don't get sidetracked.
