#things are not going to be spoon fed to you you will have to do your own research #seek out your own education guided by lectures and assignments #relish that freedom instead of lamenting it!! #some of these assignments are actually good and ive been able to tailor them to my interests #like rn im learning about the uses of bracken in ancient scotland! #i just did a whole project on tomato grafting (i love solanaceae - tomato family) and whilst it was hard i did enjoy reading about it #we had some mini essays to research and they were so interesting to research and fun to write because one of them was a comparing two #articles and one of them was really bad so it was fun to rip it to shreds and actually apply the knowledge we've been accumulating in class #but i think the point of doing all this is lost on some of them #which is a real shame #maybe im just a nerd? #i very much have the benefit of doing a degree before this so maybe im being harsh #but saying that assessments suck doesnt make them any more interesting #also we have so much free reign over topic that if it sucks it's kind of on you a lil bit #though i will admit some of the assignments are stupid

why must everything that the text clearly states atp be misconstrued like i really dont get it he has plenty of flaws in that relationship but we, and cersei, know that he was ready to kill robert for just the disrespect of the cheating if cersei said the word. he doesnt concern himself with the personal consequences, he is reckless, detached from a lot of things, and can close his eyes at the future if he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. also the concern over the “shame” and ned type judgement feels so overestimated to me atp. he never regrets aerys, he is mad at how he is perceived (but again, notably doesnt try to rectify it by telling the truth for a lot of complex reasons), but he would never take it back. if he believes its the right thing to do, and is not overdosing on copium trying to juggle vows he cares about, he will do it, reputation be damned. though he has selfish concerns regarding being viewed as good, the internal matters so much more than the external: see weirwood dream: who actually shows up? what makes the fire go out? “it was not him. it was never him”, see the trebuchet fiasco, see the choice in adwd. why shouldnt we take cersei at face value when she implies that if jaime knew about the physical abuse he would have killed him? he loves and cares about cersei to an insane degree, even if he can be selfish toxic and unhealthy too. i really find it very very difficult to imagine that he wouldnt have killed him based on almost every single part of his characterization.

On the topic of ‘bad mascot horror video games for kids’ the exception to the rule (or rather, something that understood the assignment) would be My Friendly Neighborhood.

I don’t want to spoil anything if you haven’t booted up the game before, but just…don’t be fooled by jumpscare compilations or the character design. From the opening cutscene this game grabs you by the fucking throat. The mechanics have thought put into them, the voice acting is top notch, and christ the fucking story - a complete story, one that has an end that isn’t promised in future ‘chapters’ or left ambiguous.

Yes, it has jumpscares from goofy muppet monsters, but they’re not cheap tricks. Once you learn how the game works they’re easy to avoid or at the very least anticipate - not to mention they’re survivable with the healing mechanic. And just when you think the scares are done, when you’re well into the game and have all the tools you need to navigate around potential jumpscares, the final act dunks you into the deep-end with the actual horror and nightmare fuel puppets.

I’m not sure how much the game as a whole qualifies as ‘horror,’ but it’s certainly being lumped in with the Whatever-Mascot Horror Game of the Week genre. Which is a shame because My Friendly Neighborhood is leagues ahead of those other games. It has more in common with survival horror than it does with mascot horror in terms of gameplay and tropes. It’s literally just the ‘monster’ designs leading people to assume its another Poppy Playtime clone complete with half baked story and repetitive, unimaginative gameplay loops. And that’s so far from the truth -

My Friendly Neighborhood is like if Sesame Street and Resident Evil had a beautiful muppet baby that opened its eyes to have an existential crisis when confronted with the horrors and apathy of modern capitalism.

when someone in ur circle goes to spontaneously pick up an 8yo cavalier a day's drive away with no info other than 'its free' and 'retired from breeding' and also 'they had a lot of dogs and couldn't keep them all' and you think hooooo boy let's hope for a miracle. but 3 weeks later you hear the dog has possession issues, almost no teeth left, a heart murmur, and an itch they were told could be allergies but vet thinks is neurological and well. there weren't any miracles to be had i guess.

#phantom itch is a common sign of sm/cm and they're having x-rays to get an idea of the heart condition #hopefully it's managable - its a nice dog otherwise as far as anyone can tell #but if things turn out to be how it looks theyre considering euthanasia which. i think. in that case. i would as well. #one problem is that the person hasnt signed over the dog yet so they have no access to any information and legally its a tough spot #its a real shame for everyone involved if it turns out being packed up and driven 9hrs upcountry and getting euthanized #is what it takes for a dog to not suffer anymore #but sometimes thats what welfare looks like.
