hey, thank you, this is really really nice. the secret that is probably not a secret is that i am also deeply afraid a lot of the time lmao -- but less than i used to be, and in ways that feel less stifling and self-suffocating, if that makes sense.

like, it used to be "i'm scared that if i express myself the way i want to, everyone will find me obnoxious, so let's just sand those edges down to be safe" -- now my fears are more like "now that i'm expressing myself in a way that feels natural and real, i'm afraid that it's all stupid/vapid/not worthwhile or meaningful" (<- specifically abt my art) or "i'm happy that i talk and act the way i want to now, but what if it makes me impossible to befriend," etc etc etc. which still feels bad and puts me in a funk a lot of the time but at least it's a fear that comes After/in reaction to doing stuff, rather than a fear that STOPS me from doing stuff, you know? like, it's evolved into a kind of fear that's less in my way.

anyway. i believe you'll experience something like this, because wanting to grow is the first step of growing. the fact that u hope or wish for something different means you're already on your way. to fewer fucks!! or at least distributing the fucks u give in a way that serves u better

i've never really liked the kissing someone while they're having a panic attack trope for obvious reasons, but tbh i can kind of see the appeal when it comes to yanderes, at least when it's you kissing the yan mid-panic attack and they don't mind because all that matters suddenly is that you're kissing them and any boundaries they might have had don't matter when it comes to you. one of the big things that's relevant to yanderes is boundaries (or rather the lack thereof), but while it's usually applied to the reader/darling's boundaries being ignored and trampled i personally think it's a lot more fun to play around with the yandere lacking any sense of boundaries when it comes to themselves. it's you, so anything you do to them is okay and good and wanted with no exceptions no matter what

so me and Sam FINALLY watched the last season of Capaldi's Who

and tell me how, after literally over a decade and for perhaps the first time in his fucking career, Steven Moffat wrote a not just tolerable but really actually good two-parter and fully stuck the landing. like the editing and pacing were still a bit off but the storyline was original, fun, interesting and emotionally invested, and most importantly, rather than ending on a damp fart or the most furious autofellatio in history, the final part didn't fumble it and ended in a way that felt emotionally satisfying and like it made sense for the characters. like the last time he successfully wrapped up a multiparter in a way that didn't feel cheap and hollowly disappointing to me was literally The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and a) that was in 2005 and b) tbh The Doctor Dances is about a tenth as compelling and memorable as The Empty Child.

so after 12 years of either hackery or great ideas that fall apart in the second act, Steven Moffat writes what I would genuinely consider to be a memorable Good Doctor Who serial. it ends with bittersweet pathos, a solid closer for all the main characters, and sends Moffat's showrunning career out on a genuine high despite failing ratings and budget cuts (and the fact Doctor Who hasn't been consistently good since about 2009). good job Steve. with grudging respect I admit you pulled it out of the bag on this one.

wait what's this there's one more episode left? and it stars Mark Gatiss? and you literally spend the whole episode inexplicably just shitting all over the legacy of Doctor Who by inventing a version of the First Doctor that bears literally no resemblance to the character that William Hartnell actually played, just so you can spend the whole episode saying misogynistic things to run yourself off to how much more Totally Feminist your version was than the version you made up in your head of what Doctor Who was like in the 60s? and it added literally nothing to the season except to take all the wind out of the sails of the actually good finale you already wrote?

even when he writes a good episode this fucker still finds ways to disappoint me.

It's so hard to talk about Jason because there really is no 1 single iteration of his character whether it's as Robin or as Red Hood and so any analysis you give on him is always predicated on certain assumptions. Like absolutely ANY interpretations or concepts for Red Hood Jason inherently assume that the Jason Todd who died would come back the way he did in the first place, i.e. with the specific emotional responses and motivations and well. Shifts in morality that he did. And because no one who had a hand in Jason's death ever expected him to come back, these facts don't have a basis in anything other than a certain writer's ideas. Meaning there's no intentional precedent or foreshadowing for any Red Hood behavior in his Robin run. (Which is why "warning signs" get retconned into existence.) All of which is to say, you can't even talk about any modern iterations of Jason's character without "taking Winick's word for it" and assuming that he must necessarily be "the one who is willing to kill people" because that is how he was reintroduced and the role he now fills in the family. His Robin days are now dictated by the man that later writers decided he grew into rather than the other way around and this is. In a word. Irreparable.

working off that last reblog, i've been doing a lot of thinking around people's perceptions of women but older women specifically and i've realized I don't tend to see a lot of art of women of varying ages. a lot of the beautiful pieces I tend to see online of women or even femmes tend to be of characters who would mostly pass as very youthful and it kind of makes me want to create more art that brings out the beauty of features associated with aging in the same kinds of art styles I tend to admire

there's this one artist I follow who draws a lot of art of femmes of all different kinds of body types and backgrounds, often with stretch marks and body hair being visible and I can't stress enough how gorgeous these pieces are (artists name is karlovycross if want to check out their work!). it inspires me to want to do something similar but with features showcasing women and femmes who have wrinkles and laughing lines and gray hair and age spots 🥺 these things are beautiful too and I think seeing it depicted in a humanizing way can help destigmatize these things, even if just a little bit

#when I was really young one of my favorite painters was mary cassatt #she painted primarily women and them having fun or being at peace at many different stages of their lives #I still love her work and I think I would love to be able to embody some of that energy into my own work #also as much as I love artists who make their brand drawing milfs (which bless them) I don't want that to be the only kind of depiction #of older women...
