i think i like dazai. slightly less after today!
#/j because He Wasnt Serious He Cant Be Right#wait okay spoilers im gonna talk about this as someone who has never read the manga except for that scene today#my knowledge is limited!#but#dazai is genuinely nice to chuuya??#yes he left chuuya alone after the lovecraft fight but tbf he folded up his clothes for him /lh#‘ive thought of many ways to kill chuuya’ as if you havent saved his life? multiple times? willingly?#dazai could literally just leave him if he wanted him dead. there would be nothing else keeping him alive#and being dazai i dont think he’d have a problem with killing someone he hates or leaving them to die#so clearly he doesn’t hate chuuya. and chuuya canonically doesnt hate him either but thats beside the point#when chuuya is using corruption are the most obvious times#but also in dead apple where he says something like ‘i’d rather not help you fight your ability’ while protecting him from the fog#no one said you had to help him! you could just get up and leave!#so i doubt he’s actually leaving chuuya to die this time when he had the chance many other times#not only that but he was totally lying when he said they never had any connection#because immediately before that it showed the moments where they clearly Did#and i dont think dazai is oblivious enough to not realise that#or maybe he is. i dont know#but i don’t think so. how could he go through whatever tf happened in dead apple and not realise they have Something /lh#theyre literally willing to put their lives in the others hands without hesitation#kaz speaks

can you name every time in which dazai has expressed care for chuuya?
Sure, I can try. Dazai has a unique brand of care and it shows less as the more obvious show of affection and more as an interest in people. Lets go chronologically
Dazai's irritation at the meeting with the sheep in 15. He has imo already started his own weird bonding ritual with Chuuya by that point and wants him as his personal friend, his dog in Dazai lingo cause he is a moron. He gets irked at the way Shirase, and by extension the sheep, make demands of Chuuya. That being said, this is still early and he more or less just uses this info to exploit for later.
Dazai's fascination from the GSS squad vs Chuuya fight develops into Dazai wanting to keep living. And I think that is some kind of care because Dazai legit is vibing with the guy by this point. Him wanting Chuuya to be assigned to him and not Koyou and printing out newsletters about him etc all seem to point towards some weird way of wanting to be on talking terms with him.
In stormbringer Dazai carrying Chuuya all the way across the city to the Old World so he can see Albatross and hear his final words is very important to me.
Dazai's growing agitation at them not getting to Chuuya in time during his capture. Its not as noticeable but he was uncharacteristically insistent.
Dazai's insistence on Chuuya's humanity in general.
Dazai's entire plan in sb was so he could get his hands on details about Chuuya. Like he flat out admits that Mori and the mafia dont really matter to him here and Chuuya even understands that.
That one scene when Guivre first appears and Dazai whispers to Chuuya to not look. An underrated scene imo.
The very well known scene where Dazai gives Chuuya a genuine choice and was willing to put the entire city at risk because he believes Chuuya has a right to his humanity and past. Also him explicitly laying out everything in front of Chuuya.
Obviously him catching him as he fell and holding him or whatever. But also another underrated scene where when Chuuya feels lost at the care shown to his person by Adam in the epilogue Dazai has the softest most fond reaction.
In the day I picked up Dazai he talks about Chuuya to Oda. I think its cute.
Onto dragon head now: Dazai completely flipping from completely unbothered about the war to deciding enough was enough when Chuuya calls him out with a punch and is genuinely mad at him. He is very subdued throughout the manga panels. He doesn't evem tease him. Him quietly accepting that Chuuya needs to use corruption and despite him telling Dazai not to stop him he nullifies corruption by touching his face and then letting him rest on his lap and even puts his hat on his head. Hell Dazai's entire perception of events changes because of Chuuya, from making light of the colonel's death to angrily telling Shibusawa that he had crossed a line with that act. Also Dazai's "get shot and die" line is explained to be a code warning Chuuya of an incoming grenade.
Onto the manga timeline: Dazai is generally far nicer and more civil with Chuuya than any of the mafia members post defection. He gives Chuuya a choice with Lovecraft again, he is very gentle with Chuuya when nullifying corruption, not letting go of him till he knows Chuuya would be able to handle his own weight unlike with say Atsushi. He folds his clothes and brings his hat back. Note that the hat is very important to Chuuya.
Dead apple has Dazai's face when he touches Chuuya to nullify him and then holding him down post corruption. And the sheer trust he has in a Chuuya to follow through on a plan that was never discussed. And Chuuya's hat magically appearing in his line of sight when he leaves. Also you can't tell me he doesnt care when he makes that face.
Dazai's anger at Fyodor bringing Chuuya to Meursault is self explanatory, his bond being questioned is too but particularly his whole speech in 101 where he starts thinking back on their moments is proof enough that he genuinely cares about Chuuya in some weird obsessive way.

Hello it’s me, Rui again (idk if you remember me, i left an appreciation comment a while ago)
but I have Chuuya headcanons if your interested (I’ve never wirrten headcanons out before so I’m sorry if they are bad help) I’m so embarrassed writing this
(if you end up liking them i can definitely talk to you about Akutagawa headcanons too if you want lmao)
Chuuya is nauseous for days after using corruption and dazai has to do his best at taking care of him (he sucks at it)
Having Arahabaki inside him causes him to need a lot more rest than the average person. Most of the time he tries to ignore this due to his loyalty to his work and he ends up either passing out or making himself sick for weeks because of it
Arahabaki in a small body like his makes it so that he tends to eat a lot more food than the average person due to energy being consumed faster. When he gets sick he tends to bring up a lot more.
Arahabaki loves to scream in Chuuyas head, causing him to get major migraines. Even when Dazai touches him, the nausea doesn’t usually leave
Chuuya usually ends up vomiting the second that corruption is nullified
HC (Kunikida bashing, i love Kunikida but i need chuuya to suffer so i can have Soukoku content) once chuuya ran to the agency office to get dazai to shut arahabaki up, but he ended up throwing up all over the agency floor and Kunikida yelled at him making his migraine worse, sending him into a panic attack. Dazai ran to his aid
chuuya often can’t make it to the bathroom in time because his migraine make it so that he can’t see or walk properly. Dazai usually keeps a bin nearby his bed during these times
chuuya has such a large amount of pride that he’s afraid of throwing up in fear that dazai will think he’s disgusting so he usually tries pushing him away (it doesn’t work)
arahabaki gives him the worst migraines when he’s stressed
due to past lab experiences, chuuya usually goes to sleep/passes out when he’s stressed because then he doesn’t have to deal with the pain. When he wakes up however, the pain isn’t gone
anyway that’s all i have for now. i was so embarrassed writing that honestly, but your so nice and accepting to everyone that I thought it would be okay. my headcanons aren’t great, but please tell me your thoughts on them qwq
I might make more if they end up being good enough or enjoyable qwq
sorry for bothering you ahhh
Rui!!!! Of course I remember you!!!!! Thank you for this beautiful list of headcanons these are absolutely fantastic and perfect inspiration for fics...don't be embarrassed or think these aren't great, I love them I'm so glad you took the time to write these and send them to me!!!!! Please feel free to send more in the future I'd be so happy to read them 💖💖 (and will certainly take you up on the offer for Akutagawa hehe you know I'll never turn down any content for him)
I really really love Corruption related whump for Chuuya it never fails to interest me....being sick as soon as it's switched off is so good because he has zero control over it, once he's conscious enough to understand what's happening it stresses him out even more...and the migraines !!! Chuuya is a perfect migraine candidate!!!!! I'm in love with your detail about them causing him to have trouble walking and seeing underrated symptom that's perfect for him 😭 especially since he usually carries himself very well it's super obvious to Dazai that he's struggling once his steps start to shift and he isn't picking up his feet right...catching him 😭😭😭 catching him whenever he passes out ughhhh my favorite....i just generally really love this idea of him often having zero control of when and where he throws up i know it super stresses him out ....💔💔💔💔💔💔

So this is really late but I genuinely think that Chuuya would’ve been able to trick Fyodor and Dazai with contacts and fake fangs. It took some time for my ideas to marinate but here they are, mostly cause it feels satisfying getting my thoughts down
Probably the most likely reason is Fyodor’s lack of trust in anyone, and because he knows that he and Dazai think the same, he believes that Dazai won’t trust anyone and that no one would trust Dazai. Obviously he’s wrong because skk have a strong ( but complicated) relationship and have an insane amount of trust in each other and apparently will literally go overseas and dress up as a monster, pretending to be in the enemies team all to save the other. (I do think that this is Mori’s idea still and that Dazai had no idea but still, the point still stands)
I haven’t read stormbringer ( I want to tho) but I do know that in the Flags, there’s an actor friend who probably would’ve given chuuya tips on acting either for missions, maybe trying to trick Dazai or even charades or something. But anyway he would’ve likely gotten tips from him and one of the main things people do when acting is getting into character where they imagine how their character feels with their memories and descriptions of their character. Chuuya was playing an infected vampire, which I saw someone else describe as a mindless monster, and who else would know how a mindless monster acts better than chuuya (that sounds really mean, I don’t mean it but you get what I mean) during corruption he gives control over to arahabaki and dosent seem to be conscious himself, but I imagine he would know how it feels to be a monster and how to act like a convincing one because he’s been one multiple times before. This also plays into how deep Dazai and Chuuyas bond is because we all know that they both struggle with their humanity for various reasons, so how much does Chuuya really trust and care for Dazai if he’s willing to play a character who is exactly who he wants to deny he is.
I also like to think that Dazai didn’t even know he wasn’t a vampire until he saved him in the elevator because he played this so convincingly, granted he might have been suspicious from the start, but I think it only would’ve been confirmed after the elevator and Dazai just acted like he knew from the start to save his image
Chuuyas also just a good liar in general. Lots of people forget that (myself included from time to time) because it looks like he wears his heart on his sleeve all the time. But he did hide the fact the he was arahabaki from Dazai for a few days despite Dazai specifically looking for arahabaki. People overlook the fact that he might be lying because he acts so open and expressive but that actually just adds another defence to his lies as people don’t normally suspect him. Fyodor would probably have overlooked that just like Dazai did when he was 15 but because of the 7 (complicated) years they’ve known each other it’s another reason why Dazai might have been suspicious from the start. I don’t think he actually knew tho because that drowning scene was way to emotional for it to have been fake.
I’ve also noticed that smart people tend to overlook the simplest things, it happened with me and my friends a lot. Sometimes when we’re doing a difficult topic in maths we overlook the right answer and overcomplicate things because we’re used to it being hard, or in DnD we sometimes forget to simply check if a door is unlocked before looking for other ways out the room. So it’s quite possible that because Dazai and Fyodor were playing at such a high level of IQ and stuff, they thought that there’s no way someone would do something so obvious as cosplay. They’d think they’d be able to spot that coming a mile away so they don’t bother checking because they think they already have if that makes sense. But cause if Chuuyas good quality stuff and good acting, they don’t realise that he was fine the entire time. Sometimes simple tactics are better (I say that as if the entire mersult arc was simple)
Anyway, woah you made it to the bottom, it’s midnight and I have tests tomorrow so…
Have some sad Dazai I drew cause I love drawing sad people

why Dazai said goodbye to his partner
(and no it’s not because he died)
so i’ve been seeing posts fly around left and right with fan theories about why Dazai said goodbye the way he did, but none of them really mentioned a specific topic and that’s what i want to discuss and theorize about in this post here
🔺spoilers ahead for the main manga series as well as Dead Apple and Stormbringer🔻
i’m so sorry my theories are novel sized, i will provide a tldr under the cut here for those of you who cannot read all my rambling… the tldr only contains spoilers for manga chapter 101
also, this post is written courtesy of @nataliaphantomhivesblog who replied to my theory comment on another post and encouraged me to make it into an actual post like i've been wanting to so thank you and i hope this doesn't disappoint lol
here’s my “this post is literally the length of an epic novel” summary:
Dazai says goodbye to Chuuya because he thinks that this situation will break the bond of trust that Soukoku is made of. Dazai has always tried to avoid hurting Chuuya, including making him use Corruption, but Dazai has found himself in a situation where he just can’t prioritize Chuuya’s wellbeing. and this makes him feel bad enough to the point of basically apologizing to Chuuya for putting him in this situation, and saying goodbye to their partnership, but he knows Chuuya won’t die at least, or maybe has a plan to get Chuuya out of there, so he laughs it off at the end for a smooth transition back into nonchalant-ness with a subtle nod to real life Dazai's unfinished novel "guddo-bai" in his final line this chapter
let’s first bring up this set of sad, depressing pixels:
Tumblr media
(i’m using specifically this screenshot because of the english translation, the context it provides makes more sense to me in this situation for this theory than some of the other translations i’ve seen)
let’s talk about the first and most obvious thing: Chuuya is in a closed room that’s filling with water, and his sole companion is Dostoy. Dazai is somewhere else in the prison, and has no clear way to reach Chuuya. on top of that, Chuuya showed up there as a vampire, and in the last panel above it looks like he’s returning to his human senses, and it’s unclear if people retain the memories of what happened during the time they were a vampire when they return to their human state, so it’s entirely possible Chuuya has found himself in a dangerous situation with no knowledge of how he got there. this, number one, i think would be a little nerve-racking for even Chuuya himself, and on top of that, he’s hearing his partner talking over an intercom saying goodbye to him. Chuuya is in a dangerous situation, with no clear plan of escape, and (the most important thing) he has no idea what Dazai is planning to do here. why is this so important? well, let’s look at a not so brief history of soukoku in dangerous situations like this…
Chuuya vs Lovecraft
i mostly bring this up because i absolutely love watching this fight in the anime it’s in my like top 5 best bsd animated moments but i do have a legitimate point here i promise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, after 4 years of no contact, Dazai and Chuuya team up again for an epic fight against Guild members Lovecraft and Steinbeck (even tho Steinbeck is only there for 5 seconds before being punted like a damn football) and we see how soukoku functions as a partnership involving Dazai’s mastermind plans and strategies, and Chuuya’s literal godlike strength and ability. and the basis for this partnership? trust. Chuuya’s Corrupted state may be godlike, but it’s also incredibly dangerous to use. during the fight, we see several shots of Chuuya’s face with blood dripping from his nose and his mouth from using Corruption. we also learn that Chuuya can’t come back from Corruption on his own, and he could die in this state. so, why does he use it? because he trusts Dazai to bring him back. despite not working with Dazai for 4 years, despite them being in enemy organizations, and despite Dazai taking every opportunity to harass Chuuya literally like 5 minutes before this, Chuuya trusts Dazai enough to put his life in Dazai’s hands. why? because Dazai trusts Chuuya to get the job done, and because Dazai let’s Chuuya have the final decision when using Corruption. even though there are no other options here, which Chuuya comments on, Dazai still says regardless that it’s up to Chuuya to follow Dazai’s plan. and then, at the end of the fight…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this quote is IMPORTANT because it’s one of the few times Chuuya openly admits to trusting Dazai!!
Chuuya vs Dragon
ok, next up is Dead Apple. there’s no way i’m not mentioning this even if it wasn’t in the main manga series, it’s just too important to this theory tbh
Tumblr media
i couldn’t find a gif of his dramatic entrance leaping off a plane *cries*
this point speaks for itself if you read the book/manga or watched the movie. before this scene, Chuuya meets with Ango, where Chuuya’s asked to go beat the crap out of this dragon bcuz he’s the only one who can basically. this whole scene was just two gods duking it out let’s be honest… Chuuya agrees, and while he’s on the plane, Ango admits to Chuuya over a radio that Dazai is most likely already dead. this means that if Chuuya uses Corruption, he’ll die. however, Chuuya knows Dazai well enough to know he’s alive in there (and we later learn that Mori sent Chuuya out in the first place to help Dazai), and Chuuya trusts Dazai and his “disgusting vitality” enough to risk actually dying using Corruption this time. i also think Chuuya points out a good fact at the end of the fight as well, which is where he mentions Dazai hiding the antidote in his mouth knowing full well Chuuya would punch him, therefore proving that Dazai trusts Chuuya to be there to save his life. and this is what soukoku is all about: their equal trust in one another that the other will be there when one of them is in danger
and also this scene where Dazai canonically pushes Chuuya’s face into his crotch, and then Chuuya proceeds to fall asleep in his lap. and also the cheek touch Dazai does to bring Chuuya back from Corruption im SCREAMING
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*ahem* moving on…
Stormbringer
i won’t lie, i haven’t read it yet, cuz the official english translation doesn’t come out till the end of next month as of writing this, and i haven’t been able to find any full novel ones out on the internet passed like chapter 4, but i’ve seen a bunch of quotes from it to basically already know what happens
Tumblr media
SO… due to me not actually reading it… i’ll keep this part short to minimize any potential context errors. my main point here is to emphasize how Dazai feels about Chuuya using Corruption. we’ve all seen the quote where Dazai, after telling Chuuya his plan and then walking away to let Chuuya decide for himself whether to go through with it or not, is trying to think of alternative plans so that Chuuya doesn’t have to risk his life using Corruption. Dazai genuinely cares for Chuuya’s wellbeing, and it’s emphasized a lot when it comes to Corruption. Dazai really will only suggest it as a last resort if no other options are available. and that he always, no matter what, leaves the final decision to Chuuya. Dazai straight up walks away from Chuuya during this scene in Stormbringer so that he won’t have any influence over Chuuya’s decision here
there's also the whole Dazai believing more than anyone else in the world that Chuuya is human, but im not going to get into that since i have very little information and quotes to go off of on this topic so i'll save that for a later theory on why Dazai and Chuuya bonded on a level outside of soukoku
ok, so, finally. my actual theory
Dazai is breaking Soukoku’s bond of trust
Tumblr media
in all the times they worked together (i'm omitting Fifteen since soukoku wasn’t established, and Chuuya admits to not trusting Dazai at the beginning of Stormbringer in chapter 3, which takes place a year after 15) in every scene shown here in this panel of flashbacks, there was a mutual trust between Dazai and Chuuya that they could rely on one another to win a fight. Dazai would come up with the mastermind plans, Chuuya would do the fighting, and Corruption would only be used as a last resort AND only if Chuuya agreed to do it. yeah, most of the time there is no other option, but it’s the fact that Dazai never once orders Chuuya to use Corruption that’s the point here. he doesn’t just say “well there’s no choice so just do it” he always lets Chuuya have the final say on the matter.
but, for the first time, this simply just didn’t happen. Dazai is fighting against time with poison in his veins, his opponent is a mirror version of himself with morals equal to that of Beast Dazai, Chuuya’s a freaking vampire, and all hell has broken loose up top while they’ve been in prison. Dazai has very few options here, and prioritizing Chuuya’s wellbeing in this situation just isn’t possible if Dazai wants to beat Dostoy, or at least force him into a corner where he has to reveal one of his tricks. and Dazai feels bad enough for forcing his partner into this kind of situation that he literally says goodbye because he thinks that this move will ultimately break the bond of trust that soukoku is made of… Dazai knows Chuuya isn’t going to die, that’s not what this goodbye is for. if it was, then Dazai would have absolutely not smiled and joked at the end.
Dazai cares too much about Chuuya that if he were to truly lose him, i personally think he would become similar to the Dazai in The Day I Picked Up Dazai side B, where literally nothing matters to him except his own motives and goals. he would have been so dark and so angry in the final panels if Chuuya were to actually die, that it would put that one panel of angry wet rat Dostoy to shame. we actually do see Dazai's anger in the panel where he literally calls Dostoy a bastard for using Chuuya in this situation. but him joking here is also him putting his mask of nonchalant-ness back on after that vulnerable moment of him reminiscing on soukoku’s past, knowing he may have just drowned their partnership too soon? more like too late it’s been 3 weeks
i also think he joked at the end for a few more reasons. 1. to provoke Chuuya, duh. Dazai always harasses Chuuya at every opportunity, this is just another one of those times, and 2. to kind of antagonize Dostoy. Dostoy specifically played his Chuuya card here bcuz he thought it would give him some kind of advantage over Dazai, whether it was combat wise or not. this is Dazai just being a prick and laughing in the face of Dostoy’s plans. it could also be a subtle hint to Chuuya that Dazai has a plan to save him and this is just a part of that, since we've seen in scenes like the Lovecraft fight that Dazai often teases Chuuya before a big fight happens. we also see that Dazai's strategies are named after works of literature in the Lovecraft fight, and the final "goodbye" here in Japanese is not 'sayounara', which is meant to carry finality when it's said, Dazai says 'guddo-bai', which besides being the most literal translation of goodbye in english, is also the name of real life Dazai's unfinished novel its unfinished bcuz he commited shinju before he could finish it but um well i'm ignoring that. so this could also be another hint from Dazai that he has a plan that involves Chuuya not becoming an actual shrimp under the water here
ok, i think that covered everything… i’m sorry this is literally the length of a short novel thank you so much for reading you’re all greatly appreciated <3 umm here’s a bonus Sigma-related theory
so we all know Dazai is joking about not caring about Chuuya. but why would he fake not caring about his partner, besides to harass Dostoy? to manipulate Sigma. i don’t think we’ve talked enough about Dazai using and discarding people like napkins, and i think this is going to turn into one of those times. here’s why…
we know Sigma’s gift can’t be used on Dostoy, bcuz Dostoy can’t be touched. however, we also know that Sigma is literally 3 years old… a toddler, no thoughts, head empty, and surrounded by lunatics. why would Dazai laugh at his partner drowning? to make it look like he does not care. Sigma believes Dazai just won against Dostoy, and i think Dazai knows this. Dazai even compared Sigma to Atsushi in one panel bcuz they are both mentally immature and don't grasp the fact that Dazai is a master manipulator. Dazai is trying to draw similarities between him and Dostoy to manipulate Sigma. what for? pfft god don’t even know, it’s Dazai. only Dazai knows why he’s manipulating Sigma into thinking he’s heartless with morals on par with Dostoy. i honestly can’t think of any reasons why Dazai would feel the need to do this other than the pure joy he finds in harassing any living creature around him, and also maybe to drag information out of him similarly to the way he did it in the very first chapter of the manga where he deduced Atsushi was the tiger, then proceeded to manipulate Atsushi into working with him using money. it’s also 3am while i’m writing this so i think i’m forgetting something from the last few manga chapters, like how Dazai picked Sigma to have a partner with him before Dostoy’s reveal of a vampire Chuuya by his side. and Dazai wasn’t even surprised, he just seemed angry when he mentioned Dostoy had Chuuya. but i don't have enough info on this to make a real theory so this is just a mini string of thought i had.

Let Chuuya Live Please?
So, I got like, two requests for this so here we go?
Let’s start with the fact that Dazai is smart, like, painfully smart. So much so that we all know that he is capable of predicting situations before they happen and plan accordingly. This is shown in Dead Apple. From the very start of the movie Dazai had known what would happen, and he had hidden a pill in his mouth for what would happen hours later.
Just by that we can tell that when he knows something is going to happen, he knows a long time before because if think about it, he had to have gotten that pill from somewhere right? An antidote for poison, and you can’t just take any pill of course, he had to have known which kind of pill he needed for it to work, either that being a pill that can deal with more than one kind of poisoning (if that exists, I’m not an expert) or a pill for that specific kind of poison. Of course, he had told no one about what was going to happen and while it is possible that Dazai had stolen a pill from Yosano, as a doctor, you can expect her to know just how much of what product or such she has, not to mention, if he tried to put a fake it wouldn’t take her long to know.
I don’t necessarily need find out exactly where he got the pill, all I know is that he obtained from somewhere before the timeline of movie. Maybe days before or weeks, all I know is that he might’ve known long before the movie that something was going to happen and that gives a good testament to his knowledge.
Now, why did I talk so much about Dead Apple? Because I think he could’ve (very hypothetical) told Chuuya sometime during it. Which sounds strange really because the only time they are seen together throughout the movie is in that one scene where Chuuya defeated the dragon and punched Dazai back to life all the way until Chuuya passes out and the scene ends.
But then comes the obstacle of Chuuya’s consciousness. He passed out fairly quickly which poses a problem in getting the message across. That’s why if y Dazai wanted to get the message across he had supposedly two options.
That time when they were falling from the sky, they must’ve been hundreds of feet in the air and I’m not sure if I should fully testament cinemtaic effect for the fact that they fell so softly and not to mention slowly for what must’ve been skydiving height, but if they were in the right position then it is possible that he used his heartbeat to communicate it to Chuuya as they descended, and it was obvious that at the time, Chuuya was more lucid. Directly after the use of corruption, for how many times we’ve seen him use it, there was, if I remember right, some time when he wasn’t delirious and maybe not completely alert, but alert enough to function, speak and think. Of course, once they hit the ground, too much time would’ve passed, and he’d get knocked out cold.
Before you tell me about Stormbringer. Keep in mind that that was the very first time he used it and it was a completely new experience for his body so there was no way he could’ve stayed awake after going through something so excruciating for the first time and probably for a bit longer than he normally does now as they had not known the limits at the time. But he has used it more than once and the more he uses it, the more his body gets used to it. It’s kind of like lifting weights, it doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger, you get used to it and as time goes on it becomes manageable.
His body became used to the activation of corruption, it did not get easier on his body, he could just handle the aftereffects better. Of course, there was the 4-year gap where he didn’t use it at all, but when you see him use it again at 22, he didn’t immediately go down, it took him a second at most. So that helps us get some kind of idea of how well his body can still handle the aftereffects. In Dead Apple, it took him a solid minute or two to pass out, but if you count that and the added time it took for them to reach the ground, I bet it was at least five minutes.
The second option seems just a bit less or more likely depending on how you look at it.
After the initial battle with Atsushi, Kyouka and Akutagawa, we get a scene where Akutagawa and Chuuya share a bit of small talk and besides from the injuries, he looked quite fine. He didn’t look like he’d drift off or as if there was something wrong with his head. No, he looked completely present and alert, well aware of what was going on and a very clear absence of Dazai.
We all know that Dazai has a tendency to ‘clean up’ after corruption. Who else but him would clean Chuuya’s face and retrieve his coat and hat? with that thought in mind, it’s clear that he stays behind for a few minutes at most after corruption, and with how awake Chuuya was, he’d have to have been awake for a while. We also don’t get to see exactly what went down before Dazai left. We saw them both and then it was only Chuuya.
So, what happened?
Of course, Dazai could’ve left before Chuuya woke up, but for the sake of the concept I’m working with here, lets cross out that possibility for a moment. Dazai could’ve easily waited for Chuuya to wake, he could’ve lied him on his chest and used his heartbeat to convey his message. Why would he have to do that? Fyodor probably. Season 4 actually gives me reason to believe this.
If you haven’t watched Season 4 yet than skip from this line to the next
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you’ve seen the scene where Fyodor escapes detection from Fukuzawa of all people, then you know where I’m going. Sure, it can be argued that he didn’t completely escape detection from Fukuzawa, he had turned to investigate the gaze at the back of his head, but the fact remains that Fyodor wasn’t caught. Fukuzawa didn’t even try to investigate, meaning he hadn’t thought there a need to check it out or something close.
Keeping this into account, that also means that he has been in Yokohama for years now and went without even being suspected as a presence there much less a threat. So how easy would it be for him to spy on anyone in the wreckage? He was given the perfect amount of hiding spots. He’s slick so with all those rocks and rubble, I don’t doubt that he could’ve snuck up on anyone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And seeing as they are on the same level, Dazai would know this.
He would know and expect this so he couldn’t risk speaking allowed. So, what if he closed his eyes, laid back and ‘slept’. What if he waited for Chuuya to wake up. Knowing exactly how Chuuya would wake up in this situation. He would wake up, won’t open his eyes for a while because everything hurts. His eyes hurt from the physical adjustments that happen during Corruption and his ears are ringing at first, but the first sense he always gets back is his hearing.
Dazai will grab his attention with a signal using his heartbeat and Chuuya will stay and listen, because it is important when he does this, as begrudging as he is to admit. Dazai only does this on special occasions. So, for a few minutes they’ll lay there in silence. On the outside, it looks as if they are both sleeping, but in truth, Dazai is informing Chuuya of some very important information.
Granted, it is very early for Dazai to know something like that, so the plan may not be fully developed yet, but Dazai has some idea of what will happen and as time goes on the plan will become susceptible to change. The best they could do was find a way to keep in contact without being caught or seeming suspicious.
But we got a time skip after the movie. We don’t know what happened during the time we couldn’t see so anything could’ve happened. There could’ve been rendezvouses, secret meet ups, seeing each other every now and then and communicating in a way only they knew. Really, anything could’ve happened before those events.
Also, as a side note, why does no one talk about hod Dazai changed out of the white suit before meeting up with Atsushi and Kyouka? Maybe because he didn’t want them to see it, or because he had blood on it, or because he might’ve used the sleeve to wipe the blood off of Chuuya’s face, who knows.
Well, with that said, I’m too tired to check for errors in grammar or plot, I got basically all of it off the top of my head and I’m tired so do with it what you will Ig.

even in verses where he can maintain his own physical form, much of arahabaki’s behavior revolves around protecting chuuya until chuuya says that magic phrase that lets him off his leash of course
it’s much less obvious when you can’t physically see what arahabaki is doing, but the easiest thing to point out is the fact that chuuya “doesn’t dream” --- he absolutely does, otherwise he’d be extremely unhealthy as a result of little to no REM sleep, but these dreams are completely blocked out by arahabaki’s presence in order to minimize the number of times chuuya has to relive traumatic events. he will often still wake up with a sense of uneasiness if he had a bad dream, though he remembers literally nothing about it.
night terrors are different than dreams, and as such chuuya can be prone to them. generally though either his physical activities or arahabaki will completely knock him out, so he sleeps pretty heavily but has an uncanny ability to wake up immediately at the first sign of a threat. unless you render him unconscious with heavy sedatives or poisons or his body is recovering from using corruption, it’s very unlikely that you will be able to pull anything on chuuya while he’s asleep. he will wake up, no matter how deeply he seems to be sleeping.
the exception of course has to be made for dazai, as his nullification ability severs arahabaki’s connection to chuuya’s physical body, meaning theoretically the most he could do at that point is continue to block chuuya’s memory of his dreams.

not a headcanon but i'd love to know the reasoning behind your specific character tags! things like 'white hill road' and 'ashes to the coast' sound so interesting and i'd love to pick your brain on how they relate to dazai and chuuya specifically. they give me the vibes of song lyrics or maybe poetry but that's just my baseless speculation lol
ohoho you are right, they are song lyrics! if you notice, the rest of my character tags are 'placeholder' for now - i'd like to slowly replace all of my tags with lyric tags, but i'm waiting for just the right songs to come along.
dazai and chuuya's are dear to me because they're both by the same band, it felt right to make their song lyrics connected.
chuuya's is Ashes, Ashes by Deaf Havana, specifically for the bridge and chorus more than the verses themselves.
And if we drive away to the place I love the most When my lungs collapse and my heart turns black I'll give my ashes to the coast
I think about this part in relation to Chuuya a lot because the When my lungs collapse and my heart turns black, I think of using corruption to destroy himself for the sake of the city, hence giving his ashes to the coast, referencing the portside specifically. It just speaks to his commitment to the city and how far he'll give himself up for what he cares for.
Dazai's is Speeding Cars by Deaf Havana.
I... the entire song's lyrics feel very Dazai to me, so I'll just pick out a few highlights from across the song.
One day I get so lost inside my head I'm only 22 but I'm going on dead Do I put my faith in my grandmothers God Or piece by piece just lose all I've got ? Yeah, piece by piece just lose all I've got Its been a bad few weeks But I'm still hoping I, can get back on my feet I just need a little time
come on. Piece by piece just lose all I've got? followed a little later by I'm still hoping I can get back on my feet // I just need a little time? It says loss leading to leaving the mafia and his struggle towards the light, to me.
I stain these walls with the blood from my hands And I don't sleep since I got home I fear the night will take me for all that I own Because I view my life through a telescope That I built from a bottle and a slippery slope
View my life through a telescope he is always observing and distancing himself and calculating!!! Come on!!!!!! Also do I even need to talk about I stain these walls with the blood from my hands that one's obvious right. Right?
An answer in these darkened city bars In the backrooms where we loose our hope The drinks that turn good men to ghosts In the end we're all left wondering who we are
sorry i've run out of intelligent thought i'm just punching the wall mentally now. sorry this song is just really really dazai to me. sorry. I wish this was more coherent but i just want to point at the lyrics and jump up and down.
So yeah anon, they are song lyrics!!!! I also have lyric tags for Verlaine, The Sheep, Chuuya & The Flags, Beast Dazai, and Beast Chuuya. And hopefully more to come, as I find the right songs for everyone <3
(btw everyone should talk to me about songs they associate with characters all the time, I love it. I don't take suggestions for the tags though bc those are very personal to me <3)

Chuuya & The Port Mafia [meta]
[ WARNING; LIGHT NOVEL FIFTEEN SPOILERS/MANGA SPOILERS] This is just my opinion and It’s been stewing in my brain for awhile. The resurgence of uwu fanon Chuuya gave me the strength to spew it all out When fifteen first came out I answered a question (that I can’t find now) about Chuuya and him wanting to leave the Port Mafia or being unhappy (I can’t remember it exactly) and while I stand by most of what I said there are a few things that have changed since translations came out and I was able to look more in depth with what happened. Of course bones absolutely fucked up the entire 15 novel I don’t even consider the two-episode story canon but that’s another conversation. I was under the impression Chuuya was not forced into the mafia in an obvious way, more that Dazai tricked him into it. Which he did, BUT Mori leveraged the sheep against Chuuya saying he would kill them unless Chuuya joined. At this point Dazai had shoved the idea, that came to be factual, that the sheep no longer trusted Chuuya. That was Dazai’s plan all along. Why? Because Mori promised to show Dazai how to kill himself painlessly if he gathered intel on Arahabaki and convinced Chuuya to join the port mafia.  Current canon Chuuya is content with being in the Port Mafia. I stated before that he was happy, and while I think he is satisfied with his position and his life protecting Yokohama (he has offered his life up twice in canon to save the city, not the Port Mafia) I believe he has settled.  The Perspective of Fifteen He joined the Port Mafia by force in order to protect the people he cared for despite them turning against him. Mori leveraged The Sheep’s betrayal (orchestrated by Dazai) knowing the type of person Chuuya was even as a teenager. Chuuya felt he was at fault for The Sheep betraying him and Mori preyed on that weakness with the help of Dazai sewing the seeds of doubt in Chuuya’s head beforehand. Chuuya vows his commitment to the Port Mafia because that is the only choice he had. Feeling guilty about The Sheep Chuuya took it upon himself to be better and to learn how to be a leader despite what the Port Mafia had done to him. It took me awhile to figure out why Chuuya would become so loyal to the people who literally ripped apart is only family on purpose, and then I realized it is because Chuuya only blames himself for it.  He doesn’t blame the Port Mafia or see it for the nefarious backstage puppeteering it was, at fifteen he has already put high expectations on himself because of his power. He was supposed to protect them and he failed, so they no longer trusted him.  The argument that the sheep used Chuuya is a bit ridiculous to me because Chuuya openly offered up protecting. Chuuya cares deeply about the sheep they were his first family. They all protected each other, but yes Chuuya was the main source because of his ability. Dazai pointed out the sheep were using Chuuya as a ploy to play on the emotions Chuuya was feeling since he was already searching for the truth about himself and knew he was Arahabaki before Dazai did. The Port Mafia ‘uses’ Chuuya in the exact same way, if you’re going to stick to that argument for the sheep.  Dazai wasn’t coming to ‘rescue Chuuya’ from the sheep. He manipulated Chuuya away from them using Chuuya’s own insecurities then twisted them against him to further isolate Chuuya thus giving Mori the room to swoop in and have Chuuya in his ranks rather than fighting against him. Mori then baited Chuuya with information about himself that he rightfully deserved without having to be the Port Mafia’s singular line of defense. Why was Mori so focused on getting Chuuya on his side rather  Because. at 15, Chuuya could decimate a large portion of the Port Mafia. Chuuya is a powerhouse without full reign of Corruption. It was tactically smarter to have Chuuya as an ally not an enemy. Under Chuuya’s rule if he were allowed to grow without the constraints of the Port Mafia The Sheep could have become a very strong enemy fighting for territory against the Port Mafia. Current Canon Perspective Like Kouyou, Chuuya is powerful enough to leave on his own. But for what? Mori did an irrevocable job at ensuring Chuuya’s only relationship/’family’ was the Port Mafia from fifteen on. Isolation is a powerful tactic and one Mori has been seen using time and time again. As did the former boss. (Example; Koyou).  Chuuya is content. He’s always had criminal tendencies given he grew up on the street and would have probably formed his own strong organization with the sheep if there was no other interference. But Mori made sure Chuuya was blind to what he could have out in the world and kept Chuuya’s blind loyalty in a vice grip. Chuuya settled for the Port Mafia because to him there was nothing else. He cares for his fellow mafia members and subordinates because that’s just how Chuuya is. He’s caring and soft-hearted despite the violence and chaos he thrives in.  Will Chuuya ever leave the Port Mafia? Probably not, unless something happens in the way it did with Odasaku & Dazai. But, in order for that to happen Chuuya would have to have a deep relationship with someone however his dedication and workaholic tendencies make that a very, very low chance especially with Mori still sitting on the throne. .

Second half of what was going to be just one post but I wanted to make each point stand out on its own-
I think that the Port Mafia is going through a character development arc throughout the manga, just the same as the ADA is, and by the time the series ends will be almost unrecognisable from the mafia we started out with.
Funnily enough, the first person who springs to my mind when I think of this is actually Kouyou. Though I will touch on others later on.
Kouyou is certainly not the first PM member we meet. Strictly speaking, that’d be Dazai, or Higuchi, or Akutagawa. But I feel like her change is the most indicative of the route the mafia is taking, and the difference between the pre-manga PM, and the PM after the manga started, and after several arcs. In fact, this is also something I tend to try and think about when writing her in fics, because it is highly relevant.
Chronologically, we know that her timeline is thus; she was part of the mafia in the time before Mori took over, and under the old boss she wanted to run away, likely encouraged by an older man who she may have had feelings for, romantic or not. That man died, and left her feeling that no matter what, she would be unable to escape the darkness. At some time after that, Mori took over the mafia. A year later, she was one of his trusted subordinates, and she is tasked with taking a young Chuuya - previously an enemy of the mafia, and someone who had no idea how to talk to the mafia’s business partners - under her wing. She would go on to become an executive, and at some time before the manga began, found and took in Kyouka. She would then go on to be murderously protective of her young ward, much like a mother or older sister, and encourage her to believe as she had - that she would never be able to live in the light.
So what we see from this is that Kouyou up until this point is a woman with a dark past and a dark heart who is full of grief, and I think that a lot of people overlook this because she’s beautiful and because the way she is later is more popular, but... she is just as guilty of perpetuating the cycle of abuse as Mori, Dazai, and Akutagawa. She was imparting to Kyouka the same “life lessons” that she had learned herself, in much the same way that Atsushi’s headmaster had. Both of those people had suffered, and so both of them taught their charge in a way that they saw as somewhat more forgiving than what they had gone through, in a way that to them would ready the child for the outside world and their future, but was ultimately doing more harm than good.
So, what changes?
I’d say that to answer “Dazai” is to over-simplify things.
The situation had become such that it was no longer viable. Kyouka refused to go back to the mafia. Kouyou was afraid for her, that she would lose herself in some way, and despite her previous words to Atsushi, she did want Kyouka to succeed; or at the very least, saw how a failure would break her, as we see it does while she’s in the jail plane, chained up in midair. Their organisations are not just at odds, but as an executive she’d have to be seeing that neither of them are in a safe position.
Kouyou was already in the perfect place to accept Dazai’s suggestions before he came to her with them (and, admittedly, he may have predicted that things would get to this point, may have used the situation to his advantage).
So, what changes the way that she sees things?
Dazai is one aspect. A rather large one, considering how he himself puts that he managed to get out of the mafia, and is someone with his sort of past (and personality) who not only made it out, but has been staying out, and succeeding. He also points out that with him present in the ADA, he’s able to ensure that Kyouka can flourish in the way that she deserves to.
Atsushi is another aspect, I’d say, because he was the one who was willing to suggest that their organisations work together.
Even just staying with the ADA and not being treated with anything other than respect (and yes, that includes “respect for how dangerous she can be”) would work towards this.
In summary, Kouyou before the Three Company Conflict arc is a grief-ridden woman filled with despair, who sees herself as someone only capable of showing her true potential in the darkness. She comes out of said arc as someone who appears happy with where she is, and who chooses to be where she is, yet who is also happy to help Kyouka from the shadows.
This is just focusing on the one I feel is the best representation of this phenomenon of PM members coming out better.
Another would have to be Chuuya, which is something that many people have written about, myself included, on how before the manga starts he’s bitter over Dazai’s defection, seeing that trust in his partner as having been shattered. Yet over the course of their first reunion, he is forced to see that his partnership with Dazai need not be over simply because Dazai is now a traitor to the mafia, and that Dazai, well, missed him. As a person. That the connection is still there. And later, during the Lovecraft battle, they work together fluidly again, just like old times and reminding them that just because they’re older, doesn’t mean they’re too much different to still be partners. You can really see it in Dead Apple, where his acceptance of Dazai is less in how willingly he trusts in him and activates Corruption, and more in how comfortable he is after he’s woken up again both in the movie when he sees Akutagawa, and in the promo images where he’s still next to Dazai, and they’re smiling.
Akutagawa needs almost no explanation, given how his arc is still ongoing, and he’s already gone from being the rabid dog of the mafia who kills before he thinks to someone who goes out of his way to leave people alive, and who because of that, is learning to see things from another point of view, just as Dazai wanted of him.
Yet, it’s not just these obvious ones; Higuchi has to work with the ADA on several occasions, tempering down on her novice’s pride in her organisation that she had on her introduction, and is also coming into her own as well. Kajii may well have taken something from his encounter with Yosano, and we see how he’s more than just a mad lemon scientist when he says how much he respects Mori (and I wonder if anything else is going to happen with that). Hirotsu is now able to talk with Dazai again and it isn’t something that he would have to worry about being seen as treasonous.
And last but not least, Mori himself - when it’s said during his match against Fukuzawa that they’ve both got more to protect now, that’s not just cheap words; Mori protects his people. He shows grief when his people die and it was out of his control. He accepts that an alliance with the ADA is the best and most optimal course when it’s put on the table, even with the understanding that it’ll put them at a disadvantage in the short term. He is forced to begin to come to terms with things about his past that he had been trying to rationalise, and ignore, such as how his actions led to Dazai’s defection, and I sincerely believe that although he does not regret what he did, he does regret how it ended, and what it cost him.
Mori, the leader of the mafia, is being forced in the current arc  to come face to face with the realisation that the mafia can’t live as an island, merely taking from the ADA what they need and giving nothing in return. It is Mori’s lack of action that led to things becoming as bad as they are now, and because of that, his own people are suffering. I’ve said this before to personal friends, but I do think that this is indicative of the mafia’s growth as a group - Mori needs to learn that the alliance with the ADA has to be an equal one.
What’s more, the ADA is learning through their own growth in general that they have to be able to trust the PM in return.
What does this say to me?
Other than that the characters of the mafia have been influenced positively by the plot, into becoming better versions of themselves, and the development is still in progress because the series isn’t over? That you can’t write them the way they are now, into a fic set years before the series starts?
That the themes of BSD are such that the PM represent the underside of society, a cruel and callous way of thinking that we often don’t wish people to see, or that we cover up. That even the ADA, on the twilight of the law, is still more often than not too proud to accept the help of criminals who are less ashamed and more forward about the way that they do things being criminal. That both sides are slowly moving down the path of being able to accept one another better, and in doing so, they’ll better be able to accept themselves.
We already see this with Kouyou and Akutagawa and Chuuya especially. We see this with Dazai, and to a degree with Kyouka. I believe that the longer the series goes in this direction, the more other ADA characters will accept themselves; such as Tanizaki, with his ability to use his ability in ways that Hirotsu notes are “perfect for assassination,” and with Ranpo, who hides the fact that he has insecurities and is also fully willing to make a demon of himself in order to protect his own - which is far more of a mafia attitude than an ADA one, even if, just like with Chuuya, I’m not sure I can imagine him in the other organisation.
The ADA will always be the ADA, and the PM will always be the PM, but together they can be better than they were before on their own. Currently they seem to be on a tentative truce of sorts, uncertain about doing things together and constantly in a state of tension. If they can get to a point where they trust each other more implicitly, that’s where the real strength is going to come from - something that Mori saw himself, when sending Chuuya out to help Dazai - and yet it won’t just be in the sense of power and how well they perform in their casework and missions, but strength of character, in who they are as people.

“Dimwit Dazai is safe“
After watching Dead Apple, I really wondered why Chuuya was sitting there on the floor on his own and tried my best to create something that couly have happened between those two scenes:
https://youtu.be/0e9xckPB9tM
https://youtu.be/6FLgy6V-4Ng
please be gentle with me, this is the first thing I have written in years 🥺
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they dropped to the hard concrete floor, Chuuya let out a choked noise as a result of the air being pushed out of his body by the sudden force of his body hitting the floor. Due to Dazai nullifying his ability, he wasn’t able to catch himself as swiftly as he would have been able by simply manipulating gravity. He had landed hard on his knees, somehow planted directly between Dazai’s slender legs and felt the impact of his body colliding with the floor throughout his body. He was now directly staring down at the taller man’s crotch. His arms were sprawled awkwardly over Dazai’s thighs and his tired body felt heavy and tingly. Even though he hasn’t felt like this a lot, he sure knew the feeling that came after using corruption to an extent that was testing his entire body’s limits. The previous fight against the dragon had cost him a great deal of energy, he wasn’t even sure if he had made it any minute longer.
To get out of his awkward position, he tried lifting his head up immediately, only to be held back by Dazai's hand on his neck which was restraining his head from moving up. “Let go, asshole!”, Chuuya hissed, trying not to stare too hard at Dazai's crotch right in front of him. He couldn’t help it - he was quite literally held back from doing anything besides staring at it. For a moment he caught himself wondering what size was hiding just beneath the fancy white pants. “Don’t move.”, he heard Dazai's voice somewhere above his head, “The fog hasn’t cleared.” Hearing this made Chuuya reflexively hold his breath for a second before he realized that he could have breathed in the strange fog since the moment he hit the floor.
“I don’t want to have to protect you from your special ability in this situation.” Of course, that made sense. It at least explained why Dazai was still touching him, but it didn’t explain why he was also keeping his head down at all. Chuuya had heard about the suicides, that seemingly had caused ability users to kill themselves with their own abilities. Knowing his strength, he was quite sure that he would not fall for some stupid ability that tried to mess with his head, but on the other hand it caused some anxiety in the pit of his stomach that he didn’t fully know how it worked. His will to live was always quite strong - very much contrasting the man whose crotch he had to stare at. But still, he did not know how the fog made sane ability users go mad enough to kill themselves, so he had to trust Dazai on this one.
“It’s still not over?”, Chuuya muttered, as he slowly felt the exhaustion spread throughout his entire body like poison. “No, it’s just beginning.” Dazai's answer sounded almost like he was miles away. Chuuya tried his best to keep his mind focused, and most importantly awake, but the heavy feeling in his limbs made it almost impossible. “Shit.”, he coursed between gritted teeth, blinking rapidly as the weight of Dazai's hand suddenly felt like it had doubled over the course of a few seconds. His neck felt slowly started cramping, the muscles barely able to hold his head up in the position he was in.
“I can’t move a single finger.” He blinked again, putting all of his thoughts to the goal of staying conscious, as his body finally gave up. Chuuya wasn’t even sure if he had finished his sentence, as his heavy eyelids closed and his head slowly dropped into Dazai’s lap. Then, Chuuya was out like a light. His head resting on Dazai's lap while his body was awkwardly sprawled across his legs.
Dazai's hand was still hovering over the place where Chuuya’s head had been only a moment ago, as he looked down on the smaller man’s unconscious figure. The way his head had dropped into his lap would give him a sore neck afterwards, but that would probably be the least of his worries when he wakes up. Mentally preparing himself for the yelling that would follow as soon as the mafia executive would wake up again, Dazai  gently put his hand back on Chuuya's head.
Touching his bare arm would have been just as effective, though Dazai didn’t care too much about it. For a moment he wondered where Chuuya had left his coat but didn’t question it further. His ex-partner would often leave his coat behind, especially during fights. He once explained that it would only hinder him in his movements, and he would have a wider range for his attacks if he left the coat behind. That was probably due to the fact that even after all those years, he primarily used his legs instead of his arms when it came to near-range combat moves.
Eventually there would be small sounds of falling rocks or cracks in the surrounding mess, but otherwise, it was awfully quiet. Dazai took a second look around the place they had landed, looking for potential threats and also for Chuuya's hat and coat. When he didn’t notice anything that looked suspicious, so he let out a small sigh and tried to relax a bit.
Dazai looked down at Chuuya who was breathing steadily against his side. Even though the position he was in was everything but comfortable, the bundle of anger looked a lot calmer than he usually did when Dazai was around. Absentmindedly, Dazai started gently stroking the ginger locks, making them look even more disheveled than they were before. He slowly shifted his position a bit, stretching his legs, so he would be more comfortable. Chuuya's motionless body slid a bit closer to the floor, arms sprawled next to Dazai's legs. The cold floor sure would be cold uncomfortable in this position, but neither Dazai's butt nor Chuuya's unconscious body cared at this moment due to the post-fight exhaustion.
He didn’t know how long they had stayed in this position, but Dazai eventually had closed his eyes just for a short while in order to relax a bit. His hand was still buried in Chuuya’s hair, stroking the soft curls now and then. The small groans that came from the man in his lap became more noticeable from minute to minute, so Dazai figured that the princess would be waking up soon.
Chuuya’s head moved a little and Dazai heard him hiss in pain. “What... the fuck.”, Chuuya murmured as he found himself in a very strange angle, still spread out between a pair of long legs. He felt a hand that was caressing his awkwardly twisted head slowly and gently and realized that he was still laying on Dazai after the previous fight they were in and tried lifting his head again, this time without being held down again. “The fog has cleared. You should be safe now.”, Dazai exclaimed, without showing any emotion in his tone. His hand was still placed on Chuuya’s head as he lifted it and his eyes met Dazai’s.
Due to the strange position he had fallen unconscious in, he was now laying on top of Dazai, his hands supporting his weight next to the tall man’s hips. He felt incredibly heavy, his body ached for sleep and the warmth radiating from the body underneath him didn’t make it any better. “You deserve a good night’s sleep”, Dazai commented, as if he had read Chuuya’s mind. That obvious, huh? Chuuya nodded slowly, his neck aching with even the smallest movement. “It was a tough day.”, Chuuya simply answered, not able to contain a small yawn as he sat up between Dazai’s legs. He noticed the small smile on the lips of his ex-partners face, it was only there for the blink of an eye.
Despite his entire body protesting against the movements, Chuuya slowly stood up and stretched his sore limbs. He was pretty sure that there was no part of his body that didn’t make a cracking sound at that moment. He looked down at Dazai who looked back up at him and sighed heavily. “Get up, idiot.” Chuuya stretched out his hand and Dazai took it, only to be pulled back to his feet again. He often forgot how strong the smaller man was, despite his petite figure and even without his ability.
Dazai didn’t loosen his grip on Chuuya’s hand, even as he was standing up. “I need my hand back, you know. You got two yourself.”, he commented, craning his sore neck a bit to look up into Dazai’s face. Now they were in the next awkward position, standing almost uncomfortably close to each other, just breathing and staring in each other's eyes, as the sun was slowly rising. The warm colors of the sunrise reflected in Dazai’s brown eyes, making them look like they were made of honey or liquid gold. The color softened his usual cold and absent gaze that he usually wore after a fight. Chuuya swallowed hard. It was moments like these that made him realize the beauty of the man in front of him. “Take a picture, that will last longer.”, Dazai’s bemused voice commented on Chuuya staring at his face for a bit too long to be unintentional.
Chuuya freed his hand from Dazai’s grip, due to the absence of his gloves, awfully aware of their warm softness. He still can’t believe those were the hands of a mass murderer. “I’m just tired and zoned out for a bit, shut up.” His voice was back to the usual anger, even though it was a bit dulled by tiredness. “Oh? So you only stared at me like that because you are tired?” Dazai leaned a bit forward with a playful undertone in his voice. He liked taking every given opportunity to tease Chuuya, it was his way of making sure he was okay even after such a tough day. “Oi, back off”, Chuuya exclaimed angrily, shooting death glares at Dazai. He wasn’t in the mood to give in to his teasing, he just wanted to go home and soak his body in a hot bath while drinking some expensive wine. Was that too much to ask for?
“Oh you mean like this?” With a smug grin on his face, Dazai leaned closer. “Other direction, dimwit.” Like a cat that didn’t want a human face in its fur, Chuuya pushed his hands against Dazai’s face, trying to push him away. Surprisingly, he then felt a grip on his wrists that pulled his hands from Dazai’s face and his whole body closer to the other man’s. He stumbled a bit, completely taken off guard by the sudden movement, and fell against a skinny but tall body.
“Did that fog mess up your head even more than usual or-”, Chuuya’s complaints were completely cut off by a pair of soft lips being pressed on his. That definetely was new. Too shocked to move at first, he just stood there, not sure if that was really happening right now. Even more surprised by his own actions, Chuuya slowly started moving his lips against Dazais, returning his kiss shyly. His tense body leaned into the taller man as he stood up on the tip of his toes in an attempt to balance out their height difference a bit. Chuuya felt Dazai’s arms wrapping around his waist, holding him flush against his own body, steadying both of their bodies. They found a slow and sloppy pace in their kissing really quickly, almost like they did this all the time.
With his hands free from the grip on his wrists, Chuuya slowly started moving them up into Dazai’s hair, slowly stroking the soft brown curls and running them through his fingers as the kiss deepened. He felt the others hands trail down from his waist to his hips, squeezing them lightly, pressing their bodies even closer together than before. Dazais body felt warm and good against his, even though he wouldn’t admit it out loud, he enjoyed it while it lasted. The warmth that was being pressed against him made Chuuya forget about the aches of his body for a moment, his mind feeling foggy.
In the back of his mind he questioned if he was still unconcious on the floor, being left behind by Dazai in the strange fog. Maybe the fog showed people something they would absolutely hate so they would want to kill themselves afterwards? But those doubts were quickly passed aside by the realness of Dazai’s big warm hands rubbing circles on the small of his back. No. This couldn’t be a trick of some ability. This was real and this was strange but also... good. It was the only thing that would stop their bickering for a while and replace it with the hazy feeling of nothingness that came with kissing somebody.
After what felt like an eternity, they slowly pulled away from each other, gasping for breath. Nobody said anything. Chuuya wanted to say something rude, something smug... but he was lost for words for once, which was not often the case. Dazai had caught him off guard, wiped every thought about the previous fight out of his mind and made him lost for words. “I’m glad you made it out alive. I wouldn’t know who else to bother if you had died without me.”, Dazai said while his face was still close to Chuuya’s, his voice a mere whisper. Chuuya opened his mouth to respond something, but he was still lost for words. It was like Dazai slapped him across the face. His words sank into Chuuyas mind as he repeated them over and over again. It sounded honestly, despite their usual rivalry and hatred for each other. They often told the other one to go and die in a filthy ditch so this turn was entirely new. “Well it would be boring without you so I figured saving you or die trying would be fitting.”
Dazai chuckled and slowly let go of Chuuya’s body, moving back a bit in order to put some space between them. Kissing his rival was not what he originally intendet, but the intense stare of those ocean blue eyes and the high feeling after a fight that’s been won made him throw his concerns overboard. And he regret nothing.
“I should go back to the Agency and apologize for teaming up with the enemy for a while.” Pushing his hair back behind his ear as he spoke, Dazai gave Chuuya a small smile and Chuuya understood. It wouldn’t be good to be seen together now. Their rivaling organizations wouldn’t be too pleased to find out that they shared a little moment after teaming up only to fight a greater evil. He nodded and sat back down on the floor, leaning against one of the larger pieces of concrete as he watched Dazai walk away in some direction.
Chuuya decided to just stay there a little longer. It would only raise suspicions if he walked away the same time as Dazai and he didn’t have enough energy left in his body to deal with this right now. Instead he just stared straight ahead, letting all the events of the day replay in his mind in order to cope with them. He didn’t know how long he was sitting there all on his own before he heard some footsteps coming closer. By the pattern of them, he didn’t think they would be a threat. The black coat and black and white hair quickly confirmed this.
Akutagawa slid down a small hill that was formed by one of the bigger pieces of concrete that was laying on the floor and quickly looked around. “What are you doing here?”, Chuuya asked without looking up from the place he had be staring at, “Dimwit Dazai is safe.”

For the kiss prompts how about SKK and 23
Hi! Thank you for the prompt.
That’s the last one. I was wondering how angsty I should make it since so far everything was rather soft. Well, check out how it turned out.
23) ... in relief.
AO3
The earth was shaking beneath his feet. Dazai could barely keep his balance as he ran.
Explosions and gunshots could be heard in the distance. People were screaming and running for their lives trying to move as far away from the center of chaos as possible.
Dazai noticed some mafia grunts in the crowd, as well as some government agents and he preferred not to think of what that implied. It was pretty obvious to him that Chuuya was the cause of this whole commotion. That he had chosen to unleash Corruption. And if the government people were here it had most likely been in response to their presence.
The walls of the buildings around Dazai started to crack. If the earthquake were to continue, they would surely collapse.
A few paces later, Dazai could already see the red glow of For the Tainted Sorrow.
A little bit further he passed the Black Lizard squad with Michizou Tachihara trying to get closer to the epicenter, but being stopped by Gin. Chuuya’s most royal underlings were there as well, looking just as determined and battle ready as Tachihara.
Dazai was getting closer and he still couldn’t hear the crazed laughter that always accompanied Corruption. The only explanation he could think of was that Chuuya’s throat was already too damaged to make a sound. And if they were at the point when even his voice gave out…
Dazai ran faster.
And there he was. Chuuya in all his glory. Blanketed by the red glow of his ability… hiding behind a fallen wall, sweat dripping down his face and eyes clear.
Behind him Dazai noticed another ability user, surrounded by floating debris. His power was leaking out of him in waves, shaking the ground… But that was not important!
Dazai rushed at Chuuya breathing a sigh of relief, his heart ten times lighter than it was a few seconds ago.
“You’re alright,” he panted out. Aside from obvious strain of using his ability to stop as much of the earthquake as possible, Chuuya looked just fine. Not even a scratch.
“Of course, I’m alright. Now that you’re here...”
“I thought you used Corruption! I thought you’d be dead by the time I got here! I thought...”
There weren’t any words that could explain what Dazai felt properly. On impulse, he wrapped his arms around Chuuya and kissed the shorter man on the top of his hair.
“I was sure I lost you.”
The earth shook stronger than before but they both ignored it for the moment.
“Stupid,” Chuuya said into Dazai’s shirt. “I promised I won’t use Corruption without you. You should’ve known better.”
“Yeah, I’m an idiot,” Dazai replied smiling despite the city falling apart all around them.
“Well, you’re here now.” Chuuya took a few steps back, For the Tainted Sorrow surrounding him once more. “You better stop me in time.”

Tumblr media
➤ genre: yandere, angst
➤ pairing: yan!chuuya x reader, dazai x reader
➤ warnings: yandere themes, manipulation, toxic relationship
➤ word count: 1.2k
➤ a/n: hello!! i finally got your request done sorry this took superrrr long 😿 but i hope this is what you had in mind ^.^
part one
What’s mine is... not mine?
Tumblr media
Your beauty delights him. No, even the mere sight of any inch of you thrills him to his very bones.
Being with you — the light of his life — brings him happiness to no end. The way you accept his lavish gifts with no hesitance, the way you lap up his compliments like such a cute little pet, the way you agree to move in with him so willingly — he remembers it all. Such memories deserve to be put in a frame and hung up on the wall to remind you of just how lucky you are.
Of course, none of the ways he restricts you, strips you of your freedom — none of it registers in his head. Why should it? To Nakahara Chuuya everything he does is for you. To protect you, because he wants the best for you. None of this was borne out of his selfishness, no. It’s merely borne out of the opposite, out of his selflessness, or so it seems in his own head.
And this is what he’s thinking as he strolls out of the Port Mafia headquarters, an hour earlier than usual, to surprise you. You claimed to be feeling a little too exhausted from all the missions lately, and so had taken today off. You’ve been taking so many off days lately, were you getting sick? He ponders whether he should ask you to just quit the mafia altogether. Chuuya is loaded, he’d have enough to support the both of you after all. He dismisses the idea though, how could he know what you’re doing if you’re not working together with him in the same building, on the same missions? He’s having enough anxiety now as it is.
No, it’s fine, he convinces himself. He’d get to see you soon and all his worries would go away anyway.
But the sight that would greet him there is something he never anticipated, but also something he always feared the most.
When he reaches the penthouse, your smiling face brightens up even more as he enters the room. You get up from the couch and run up to him, wrapping your arms round his neck when you reach him. Your sweet, soft lips kiss him slowly, gently, reminding him of all that is good in the world.
That is what he expected.
Not this.
Not this fucking repulsive sight.
Chuuya can hear his heart pounding loudly in his ears, the blood is rushing up to his head. His fists are clenched by his side, one of them crushing the stems of the bouquet of flowers he holds, having intended to give them to you. His once calm blue eyes are taken over by white-hot rage.
There you are, sitting in the living room, eating fucking chocolate-covered strawberries — this reminds Chuuya of your little foodplay experiment, oh your smooth figure under his bare hands — wait, no, the redhead shakes the image away. That’s not his concern now. You are feeding it not to yourself, no, but to that guy, no, that monster.
The man he hates the most.
Touching the one thing Chuuya loves more than anything in this world.
Dazai is knelt on one knee on the floor in front of you, bandaged hands gliding over your thigh, sliding under your skirt, mouth accepting the strawberry from your fingers, his tongue slipping to actually lick your digits, a playful glint in his eyes.
“My belladonna, I bet you taste better than these strawberries,” he teases as he swallows it.
It’s so obvious that Chuuya’s there, and yet both of you are acting as though he isn’t, paying him absolutely no mind at all. And he can’t take it.
“What the fuck is going on here?”
He steps into the living room, ability on and glaring at Dazai. Of course, the brunette barely bats an eyelash. He’d never be scared, not of Chuuya. But what really gets the redhead? You aren’t either. Your face is the picture perfect show of tranquility mixed with a tinge of exasperation.
“Do you want to join us?”
Chuuya can hardly believe the words coming out of your mouth as you continue to feed the enemy, not an ounce of remorse in your eyes. What happened to his lovely, obedient princess?
Dazai is eating this entire situation up giddily. He loves this, Chuuya knows it. He loves stealing absolutely anything he can from him, and this time, he’s got his most precious possession — you. He doesn’t dare believe it, but it’s happening. Why are you with that bastard? After all he’s done to keep him away at first — how did it come to this? What has he done to deserve his precious darling cheat on him and with Dazai of all people?
“What’s wrong, Chuuya?” Dazai hums, positively relishing in his agony. The bastard sees through everything, Chuuya not excluded. And he knows just how bad the inside of his head is right now — in fact, he knows it all too well that he’s going to take advantage of it. After all, how can he not? He managed to painstakingly find you alone one day, a lucky chance it was that Chuuya happened to not be with you. Dazai had a feeling that something was off, and so you easily spilled all the beans to him, how Chuuya was too possessive and manipulative, his different methods of keeping you in check and how you forced yourself to take his bullshit.
Hurting a sweet, poor belladonna like that? Oh, Dazai is going to have the time of his life pushing it in the redhead’s face that he, once again, lost the fight. And he knows Chuuya will lose this fight, seeing as how he’s so easily losing control despite the fact that Dazai can neutralise his ability with just a touch.
But all that’s going on in Chuuya’s mind is revenge. If he can’t have you, no one can. And all he remembers before he blacks out is the lack of fear in your eyes as he charges toward you.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
He’s toxic — he substitutes fluidity and choice with control.
Those are the words echoing in his mind as he strains himself to get up. The house was an absolute mess, as it should. He’d lost control after all. But Chuuya didn’t care about the house, no. He cared about you — where were you?
Oh right, with the bastard. Chuuya didn’t even have any energy left to fuel his rage. All he could feel was his muscles screaming out for him to stay still, his eyes heavy with exhaustion. But he spots something tied to the coat rack — the only thing standing in the middle of the rubble. One of you must’ve put it there on purpose after he passed out.
Chuuya winces just thinking of you conspiring with Dazai. Fuck. But he winces even more when he sees the note attached to the rack, bandaged tightly, undoubtedly Dazai’s. ‘See you never. xoxo, not-your-princess’ it read, with a lipstick mark on the side. He clenched his jaw and fell back to the floor, the energy now properly depleted out of him.
The images of you flash in his mind. The fear that used to be in your eyes, the submissive whimpers you’d only let him hear, the good girl act you always performed for him. And Chuuya screamed with whatever energy he had left in him, realising that none of that would be his, because if anybody could stop Chuuya from getting to you, it would be Dazai. And it just had to be him.
Fuck.
And Chuuya knows why he’s still alive. He knows why Dazai saved him from being consumed by corruption — he wants the redhead alive; he wants him to watch as his princess lives happily with the wrong guy.

Pitiful Creatures
Sometimes you just need to cry it out on a shoulder.
(DazaixChuuya) (Omegaverse Au) (Alpha Chuuya and Omega Dazai) (Fic Excerpt) (Approx 2k words of hurt feels and Alphas on the verge of a breakdown)
For the past several weeks, Chuuya had taken to willingly spending his time in combat zones, taking on almost all the field assignments that Mori had to offer. It was quite frustrating on how hard it was becoming to catch the Alpha around and Dazai could recall that the last time they had even so much as had a decent conversation, was weeks ago, too far long for his liking, and now his patience was getting thinner.
Ane-san had also expressed her concern regarding Chuuya’s behavior, quietly stating that he had not once visited her establishment this month, her current disapproval in her young charge showing from her sharp tongue. She had gone on to make a quip about how it was Dazai’s own self-destructive behavior that was starting to rub on the Alpha, the accusation leaving a bitter taste in Dazai’s mouth.
He had left her place with an empty expression, immediately deciding on hunting down Chuuya and giving him a  piece of his mind about how it was <i> he</i> that was the self-destructive one of the two, or maybe put out the offer of double suicide if Chuuya really was working with the aim to kill himself.
A call from Hirotsu confirmed that Chuuya had just entered the Mafia headquarters to hand in the latest report regarding his most recent suicide mission (Dazai had thrown quite a hissy fit upon hearing the nature of this mission a week ago, because of fear and jealousy alike), the news making Dazai pick up  his pace so he could catch Chuuya before the Alpha left the building.
He had noted it, the reason behind the whole relentless overworking, had known it was because of Corruption and the high amount of casualties that had recently eliminated half of Chuuya’s underlings, topped with the work overload he must be facing due to his newly earned position as Executive. But mostly it was due to the files on the Arahabaki case that Chuuya was finally allowed to  review because of his status, and really now, this was becoming troublesome. (Dazai has already peeked into the files.)
Rushing over and climbing the stairs in strides had gotten him to the top floor much faster than he calculated, giving him enough time to compose his rapid breathing and pull up an unperturbed face. He could hear Mori’s voice from the other side of the door, droning on about some flaw in Chuuya’s report, the defeated silence in answer stifling the air and disrupting his breathing. It sounded like Chuuya was even more disheartened then the last time Dazai had gotten a glimpse of him in the corridors.
Mori had moved on to give a little lecture on Chuuya’s carelessness and crude behavior that he used in dealing with the mission, with what must be in a disapproving tone, if Dazai ever heard one. In his mind’s eye, he could imagine Chuuya, frozen in a terse bow with his hat off, eyes fixed on the carpeted floor in a show of respect and submission, a frown marring his handsome expression.
Dazai was still reviewing the entire one on one happening on the other side of the wall, when the door opened up to reveal Chuuya, who was wearing a look of utter surprise on finding the Omega, that did nothing in hiding the watery gleam of his eyes, making Dazai’s inbuilt instinct go on high alert mode.
It must have shown on his face, the alarm, because the next thing he knew, Chuuya was already walking away from him in hurried steps, face shadowed by the brim of his stupid hat. It hurt, just a bit, seeing his partner ignore him so openly after a month of radio silence.
His mind reeled in itself, seeing the Alpha sprinting down the corridor, wanting to ran away and shut himself in his nest and sulk about the whole situation, his mind wanting to retreat back into his shell, but without it registering, his feet had already started following after the frustrated scent left in the Alpha’s wake. Chuuya was already at the end of the passage by the time he caught up, ducking into an empty meeting room.
“Leave me alone for a bit, Dazai”. It wasn't exactly an order, body turned away from the door, waiting for the omega to clear out, his voice sounded heavy, gloved hand coming up to cover his face.
“Chuuya”. He was hurt, honestly, first time they talk in a month and Chuuya is asking him to leave him? Unbelievable.
Dazai did not pay any heed to his request (when did he ever), choosing instead to close the door behind him and stride into the center of the room, a cautious distance from the strung-up Alpha.
“Kouyou nee-san said you're being an ass these days, and I couldn’t agree more”. This elicited no response from Chuuya. “Sulking just because of Mori’s lecture?”, Dazai asked, slowly trying to close in the distance. He lifted his hand up to rest it on his shoulder, prepared for retaliation.
“I said LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE, DAZAI!” As soon as the contact was made, Chuuya had whirled around and shouted it on his face.
It wasn't the fresh wave of angry alpha-scent pheromones that hit Dazai, to make him stumble back a step, rather it was Chuuya’s face, tear tracks cutting clear lines into his cheeks, the colour of his eyes intensified by their glassiness.
“Chuuya!”, if Dazai wasn’t alarmed before then he was definitely shocked now, moving with purpose towards the Alpha that hadn’t seemed to realize that he was crying at all. Chuuya seemed surprised to see him advancing forward, stepping back a bit to avoid the Omega hellbent on cornering him.
Chuuya kept backing away from him, not realizing that Dazai was fully intent on getting over with whatever-this-was. The back of his knees hit the seat of a swivel chair, and Dazai wasted no time in pushing him back to sit on it, hands firmly holding his shoulders.
Chuuya made a move to stand back up, but Dazai was fast enough to straddle himself on the distressed Alpha, wrapping his arms around his lithe frame.
“Honestly if you hate being down talked by Mori so much…”, that was most definitely him skirting around the main issue because rule no. seven of surviving the underworld stated that issues that are not talked about, don't exist and right now making Chuuya calm down was top priority.
“I mean, Mori is technically right in his way…”, He continued talking, wanting to distract him with the things his mind must be thinking.
By now Chuuya had taken to hiding in his embrace (knowing it was fruitless to try and fight against Dazai), hands holding onto his waist a little too tightly for comfort, sniffling every few seconds, but Dazai doesn't mind. He had taken to hugging Chuuya back just as tightly.
After what seemed like an eternity, Chuuya’s shoulders relaxed a bit, just a bit, and the barbed wire wrapped around Dazai’s heart managed to ease it’s hold. He had his cheek resting on Chuuya’s head, waiting for the flood gates to close.
“Sorry”. The Alpha seemed sheepish, judging from his cracked voice, but Dazai just shook his head and let out an exaggerated sigh.
“Chibi, you had me worried here for a second”. This earned him a low growl from Chuuya, making him grin.
“Chuuya got all his tears and snot on my shirt!”
He missed this.
Relaxing his stance a little, he prodded further,“Oh, so it’s about your height? Quite a weird thing to sulk about.”
“Shut up,” Chuuya groans, his face still hidden. By now the Alpha had calmed down, breathing pattern going back to notable.
Dazai started to pull back from the embrace, wanting to see Chuuya’s face properly after so long, hands coming to hold Chuuya’s red face, “Look at you”.
This situation was definitely a first for both of them.
”Chuuya looks like a little toddler”. Dazai lovingly squished his cheeks to maximize the effect. The Alpha’s face was flushed, red-rimmed heavy lidded eyes looking back at Dazai, bottom lip bitten into by his fang, but he still managed to look attractive.
Chuuya must have been tired, because he only sighed at the remark and moved his hand up to cup Dazai’s. Winding his fingers in between his, he pulled them back from his face and held them in the space between them.
Too much distance, Dazai thought, slowly pulling his hands away and moving closer again to wrap them around Chuuya’s neck, resting his face on his shoulder, nuzzling his scent glands under his collar. A deep inhale of the Alpha’s scent had him going boneless, touch starvation making itself obvious. Chuuya seemed to have sensed it too, moving to nuzzle his face into Dazai’s neck, hands moving to his waist to pull him closer.
Dazai’s body seemed too eager for this physical touch, head tipped back to allow more access for the Alpha, as Chuuya kept kissing and nipping at his glands, hands twisted in Chuuya’s hair, exhaling soft sighs and gasps every so often.
Perhaps, Chuuya thought, he should feel guilty for having neglected his omega for so long.
Even at this proximity, he could barely make out the scent of Dazai, overwhelmed by blood and gunpowder. It was a soft whiff of petrichor and paper, intoxicating and ensnaring.
Dazai let out a sharp gasp when Chuuya slipped his hand under his shirt, cool leather caressing patterns on heated skin under the loose bandages. It felt like fire chasing away the frost.
“Chuuya” Dazai gasped out, to which the Alpha just hummed. Dazai was feeling too warm now, pressed up against Chuuya, heat pooling in his belly making him breathless. He tried to wiggle a bit to adjust his position on Chuuya’s lap, intent on simply rutting and making-out, but the Alpha had a very tight hold on his waist.
Chuuya yanks a fistful of Dazai’s hair, exposing his pale neck. He starts with light kisses that turn into soft bites, the Omega shivering and spluttering out half gasps and moans.
“Chuuya.” Dazai whines, shaking hands trying to unbutton Chuuya’s shirt, mirroring Chuuya’s actions of opening his neck tie. He shivers when Chuuya bites into his collarbone and tugs down his shirt and jacket which pool behind his back. The Alpha makes quick work of the bandages winding down his neck, exposing all the rope burns, scratches and bite marks on his pale skin to the soft evening light, and Dazai shivers at the heated gaze directed at him. He doesn’t know what to make of-never knew how to process- the fact that Chuuya finds him attractive, a shiver sliding down his spine from the way Chuuya was giving him this look.
The room was already tainted with their scents running wild, mixed with the heat of arousal and want. Dazai could feel the slick sliding down his thighs, could feel Chuuya’s arousal between his legs, could feel his self-control thinning out as lust choked all coherent thoughts with desire.
“Chuuya, please”. This was getting borderline unbearable, how Chuuya seemed so calm and collected in a situation like this, even with his hair mussed up. (The hat was knocked down somewhere on the carpeted floor) and his face looking so kissable.
Chuuya pulls him in by his nape into a slow open mouthed kiss, moving on to suck  and bite at his bottom lip, it would most likely bruise (Chuuya liked leaving evidence of his hold on his territory), tongue settling heat in his mouth as his other hand slowly trailed down Dazai’s spine.
Before the Omega could process anything, Chuuya had already scooped him up and stood up, walking towards the conference table, and Dazai paid no mind to it, too busy getting his share of kisses and fervent touches.
They only separated once, when Chuuya had deposited him on the desk surface, to take of their dress shirts, the Alpha immediately pulling himself back between his legs again to drown in the kisses. Dazai was lightly rutting against Chuuya’s obvious erection, desperate enough in his actions to make Chuuya start unbuckling their pants.
One shove and Dazai’s pants and underwear were thrown somewhere behind them, leaving him perfectly naked to the alpha’s heated gaze, safe for the bandages winding down his torso and appendages. Chuuya pulled off his gloves by the tip of his fangs, fully intent on simply staring at the ruffled Omega.
One hand moves to part Dazais legs further, as the other moves to circle around his neck, pushing him down until his back rested flat against the desk. Even now Dazai’s mind likened this action to creating distance, but he simply lay there, content on sitting back and seeing what Chuuya was willing to do. Cold fingers brushed against his flushed erection, making Dazai jump, slowly making their way to circle the tight leaking hole.
Chuuya had a perfectly expressionless face, only his eyes letting go on how interested he was, solely focused on Dazai’s lower body. One finger slid in without any sort of resistance, which showed just how aroused the Omega was. Dazai breathing stuttered.
“Sorry” Chuuya mumbled lowly, apologizing for what exactly, for having flooded out his emotions earlier or for downright ignoring him for a whole month now, Dazai wasn’t quite composed yet to try and decipher that, mind more than content at just being touched after so long.

Like i feel its interesting to come back to soukoku from this angle. With dabihawks we both like hawks more but with soukoku im a chuuya fan and you are a dazai fan so we both prioritize the other person but its fun to talk to you about them because even tho you like dazai more you dont act like chuuya is just an add on (gbhhg i hope i left a similar impression)
Like u see the state of soukoku fics rn n u get how it was at it height and how boring that got. The rest of the fandom prioritized dazai and they always seemed to go out of their way to romanticize everything the two did without acknowledging they both have isuess theyd need to work through for a healthy reletionship. Like it never got as bad as dabihawks cuz neither of them are bad to each other like dabi is bad to hawks but you get the picture.
Like i remember the exact moment i stopped shipping soukoku cuz it was after soukoku vs lovecraft episode n i watched chuuya activate corruption for the first time (i read the manga before this so i saw the bloody corruption before aesthetic corruption so another factor might be that it left a way bigger impact on me), n chuuya basically destroying himself inside out n then them having a little moment n chuuya being like 'aight i trust you to get me out of here' and dazai being like 'you got it partner'
N then we cut to chuuya in the middle of that fucking field all alone with no indication of has dazai called for help just a 'haha i left him because its funny'
N ngl i was plenty mad with dazai being so neglectful and dismissive of chuuyas needs when he knows that corruption literally kills him inside out if not stopped but that doesnt compere to my anger when i got on tumblr and every single post was focusing on how dazai folded chuuyas coat n put his hat there and how sweet and romantic that was and how much dazai cared for chuuya
You know completely ignoring he left him in the middle of nowhere with god knows what kind of injuries after chuuya explicitly trusted him to get him to safety, knowing he would faint n putting his trust in dazai
I was just pissed, like these two had a fun dynamic n i liked them together but the fandom was so focused on thirsting after dazai and making chuuya this tsundere love intrest that they werent willing to talk about obvious issues these two have not even as much as 'hey that was kind of a shitty thing for dazai to do'
Idk soukoku fandom left such a sour taste in my mouth, its just fun to talk about them with someone who doesnt do that
This is actually pretty interesting because I’ve had a different experience with fanfiction I’ve read where people will prioritize Chuuya’s feelings over Dazai’s (I especially get annoyed when people make Dazai’s defection from the Port Mafia solely Chuuya angst). I wonder if that’s become a recent trend then as you said it used to be the other way around (...This fandom can’t do things in halves, huh).
As I said above, a common trend that really annoys me about Soukoku fics that talk about Dazai’s defection is that it’s always Chuuya going “You betrayed and left me!” without Chuuya ever asking why or Dazai having the proper chance to explain himself. I can understand the draw of “Dazai broke Chuuya’s heart by leaving him behind” but people make it out like the issue was Dazai leaving in the first place which I think is pretty inconsiderate of Dazai’s own feelings.
I just want a balance where Chuuya asks why Dazai left, Dazai get’s a chance to explain himself and then maybe Chuuya asks why he didn’t ask him to go with him (if they were close in this fic) with Dazai questioning Chuuya’s loyalty to him and the Port Mafia. It would be a really good way to highlight Soukoku’s issues with communication of personal feelings and it’s just... not done.
Also, as I said in my previous ask, I can understand why you would be annoyed with Dazai’s actions in the Lovecraft episode and how the fandom made the action of him folding his coat into something cute and romantic while dismissing the fact that Dazai broke his promise.
And while I can’t and won’t defend Dazai for such actions as it was a dick move, I actually think that was his point. Dazai intentionally broke Chuuya’s trust in order to push him away (or at least he did in my opinion). We’ve already discussed how Soukoku has an issue with communication of their personal feelings and I think the Lovecraft episode is a great example of that. If I had to make a guess, I’d wager that Dazai was scared of the trust that Chuuya gave him again, he was probably also scared about how working alongside Chuuya again would bring out his old self: thoughts, feelings, and the like and how that would affect his promise to Odasaku. Dazai has done everything to distance himself from the mafia and now he’s being drawn back in and there’s nothing he can do to stop it.
I think that’s also why he brings up the fact that he set a bomb under Chuuya’s car and constantly jabs and insults him, as well as stealing from him even though we know all he had to do was ask, was because it’s all an attempt to push Chuuya away and thus, push the mafia away too.
This is also why I would love to explore Chuuya more independantly because I want to know how he feels about all of this. It must hurt to be treated this way, especially with someone you trusted. And what probably hurts him even more is the knowledge that Dazai can’t trust him (which is a major issue in their relationship that needs to be adressed).
When it comes to fanfiction, Chuuya definitely deserves better and he definitely needs to sit Dazai down and get him to talk (and maybe get him to talk about his goddamn trauma too because that’s what causing this divide between them) and then Chuuya should be allowed to speak about him. In a sense, Dazai is treating him like a pet dog that he can throw away and is dismissing Chuuya’s own feelings and I just want to see people actually adress that. Dazai is allowed to have his trauma without making Chuuya a doormat for him (or a therapist).
It’s pretty tragic really because Chuuya is probably one of the most loyal characters in the manga/anime and is the one that wears his heart on his sleeve the whole time and yet Dazai still can’t bring himself to trust him just because he refuses to talk to him.
...Basically, they need couples counselling.
