Good Tickle Brain's 10th Anniversary!

Today is the 10th anniversary of Good Tickle Brain! I can't believe it's been 10 whole years since I decided to start sharing nerdy Shakespeare comics online in the hope that other people might find them mildly amusing.

Ironically, my 10th year running Good Tickle Brain has also been far and away my roughest. I've posted barely anything this year, due to a particularly challenging combination of injury, chronic pain, increased family care responsibilities, and mental road blocks. But I'm still here, and I'm still committed to making Shakespeare fun and making fun of Shakespeare through the power of stick figures. (Also the chronic pain has mostly cleared up, so that's helped a lot.)

Assuming I can get my brain to cooperate and life doesn't throw me any more curve balls this year, I'm hoping to have my long-awaited comic book compilation of Hamlet out in time for the holiday season. I'm so proud of the work that has gone into it and I can't wait to get it into your hands.

As Good Tickle Brain moves into its 11th year (it goes to 11!) I hope to figure out a sustainable schedule that allows me to post new comics regularly again without short-circuiting my very tenuous work-life balance. Thank you all so much for continuing to read and share my work. I hope to continue to create more of it for you to enjoy over the next 10 years!

Well here a very good reason for the BRF to remove Megan from the RF website. You know for breaking the Sandringham Agreement?

If they haven't been taken off the website for breaking the Sandringham Agreement yet, it won't be happening any time soon.

The argument for taking them off the website was at its most strongest in February/March 2021 when the Sussexes said they weren't coming back and the royal patronages and military titles were removed and everyone was pissed off about the Oprah interview. (I believe it didn't happen because Philip ultimately passed away and then The Queen's health declined so there were more pressing matters to deal with.)

There's still a strong argument to make to take them off the website now but I think Charles knows taking them off the website is what causes Harry to cut them off entirely and he still wants Harry back in on the family side.

Quick Dreamwidth Note

BTW, to anyone creating a new Dreamwidth account, or dusting off an old one, I highly recommend you go to the Beta Features Page and turn on the New Create Entries Page and the New Inbox Page.

This is for two reasons: First, because Dreamwidth will be officially switching over to those designs in a few weeks at the soonest, and a few months at the latest; I know how jarring sudden changes can be, but this allows you to have some control over it.

Second, if you haven't been on Dreamwidth long, or in a long time, switching over before you get too used to the old version will also make the changeover less jarring. The current default Create Entries and Inbox pages are definitely going away soon, so you'll probably be more comfortable in the long run if you start out with what the new version is going to be anyway.

You can read more about the changes in the official news post about it, including lots of information from one of the main coders in the comments. In particular, I want to highlight this comment from site co-owner and co-founder Denise, where she explains why this update is necessary, and why updates to things that "work just fine as it is" are necessary in general. It helps explain why Tumblr has to update some things over the years that we didn't think had anything wrong with them in the first place, and it does so in a very kind, clear, and straightforward manner. (Not concise, but definitely sympathetic!)

Heya Friendos!

Thank you for hanging in there while I finished the major updates to my site! Pretty much everything is now listed and reworked fully. There will be a few items that will be either Premade or Custom only. Please use the Custom category at the top of the shop to look at only Custom items. Otherwise, all Premade items will be listed right after the custom items.

There are a few extra listings now! I’m most excited about plushies officially making a comeback with brand new listings under it including the bereavement bears! If you follow the CXD tiktok, you’ve seen one being made out of my late mother’s work clothes. This is a product I’m very proud of, and I will be working to publish the rest of that series, as I complete forgot to post the other parts. lol If you are interested in getting a plush made out of your loved ones clothing, please use the Custom plushies listing. :)

You’ll more than likely notice a lot of “Coming soon” photos on the listings. As I now shift my attention to working full time on making all the product for the first farmer’s market on May 6th, I will be slowly updating pictures on the listings. Some listings may take longer to update as they may not be a product I am making immediately. All I ask is for your patience in this please. :)

Winter was a really hard time for me, but I am extremely excited and motivated for this big step. I’m hoping to maybe do a few tiktok lives, or livestreams on our Youtube channel while making all of this product for the next few weeks. I hope to see some of you there or at the farmer’s market in person!

So my last two chapters of Wings have been rewritten due to me accepting that Adrien is in fact a sentimonster. 

I was affected by bad faith salt and the mental gymnastics to deny it hurt my enjoyment of the show and my writing.

I look forward to the timeline! In the meantime, I went to the website to see what you meant about the Wales kids' pages being updated. The first thing I noticed was that going to the site, all you see is CC. I don't recall it being this one-sided when the Queen was alive. Am I getting that wrong?

I finally found the Prince and Prince of Wales, but it seems kind of buried to me. And I found nothing about any children. Is it just me? (Could easily be.) :)

Nope - it definitely wasn't this one-sided under The Queen. There was a huge website update in late September/early October as part of the transition to the new reign of King Charles. It just hasn't changed and, for some people, it's starting to grate how much Charles and Camilla are taking up all the attention. Which is fine. There are a few things going on here:

This is the first transition with modern technology so there's probably a priority list for updating things and the website, as it always is, is at the very bottom behind social media and LPs.

Charles and Camilla engage more with the press and public attention than The Queen ever did so naturally, they'll court more of a media spotlight and that's how they're using the website.

Where The Queen's vision of monarchy was "all in this together" (apologies if I've made High School Musical get stuck in your head) and all working royals were promoted somewhat equally, Charles's vision of monarchy is "It's been 84 years...mine at last!"

And it's not you - the royal website isn't easy to navigate. If I'm being honest, it's so clunky that I rarely use it. Instead, I'll google the webpage that I need or do a keyword search on the royal website itself. So to find the pages about the children, you really have to dig for it, or at least search for it. I suspect this is because they're still minors and not actually working members of the royal family.

Lili does not have a page, apparently. Nothing shows up when I search for Lili, Lilibet, Princess Lili, or Princess Lilibet.

The updates to the children's pages appear to be that newer, more recent photographs were added (the "Prince/ss XX's page" links go to the current webpages). The (as of XXXX) links go to Wayback Machine screenshots of older versions of their webpages.

I'll see if I can track down the gossip that Meghan was upset about the webpages being updated. If I'm remembering it right, she was upset that the Wales kids got new photographs and Archie didn't, which a palace source justified as they only use official updates from KP, BP, and CH (remember, the Sussexes use Archewell for their comms). But I wonder if Meghan doesn't have at least some kind of resentment that everyone else has a page and Lili doesn't.
