All in all, the season was absolutely great, the ending was AMAZING, and im so glad Neil did what he did. Is a season that gave us all and a lot more. I understand everyone's pain but this is in Neil's head the set up for a last 3rd season. Let's not allow the emotional rollarcoaster to take away all the amazing things the season did.

'For Max"

Billy wasn't sure when he found himself wanting to be different. Better.

It might've been the day Max stumbled into his room after she discovered Neil's mistreatment towards Billy went further than the insults she'd been around to hear. She came in with two ice packs, one for his lip which had been split open in the spot his father's ring caught, it would definitely leave a scar, and one for his knee. She could still hear the sickening 'crunch' as his bone gave way to Neil's boot. Her stomach churned when she thought about how much pain Billy must've been in, the bone was definitely broken or at least fractured; however Neil would never let Billy see a doctor to have it set. 

So, ice was all she could do, aside from wrap it, and ignore the barely concealed yelp of pain her step brother breathed out. 

Up until that day, Billy had been cold towards Max, only warming up to her enough before they'd left California to teach her to skate. 

The prospect of more, a real sibling relationship, made Billy giddy briefly. He didn't want Max hating him anymore. He wanted to be a better brother for her, especially with a step father like Neil, Max needed protection, stability. A safe space, and Billy could never be that if he was violent, and unwelcoming for the younger.

He wanted to be better for Max, to Max.

She needed someone to look out for her, and Billy needed to be that person. He never had anyone to shield him from the harsh realities of life, like all kids should. Susan wasn't good at it. But, Billy was. Billy could be, for Max.

Billy would never blame Max for Neil's abuse, even when her actions get him punished, he can't blame her. She never asked for Neil to back Billy into a shelf so hard the boy could just manage to right himself, his face screwing up in an effort to fight off tears. Tears were a sign of weakness, and weakness got you hurt. Crying in front of his father was an open invitation to inflict more pain, bruise more milky skin, stain more shirts. He didn't want that for Max. He wanted Max to be a kid, wanted her to be as carefree as possible in a situation as crappy as theirs.

Neil had been enforcing his ideals in Billy through his fists long before Max and Susan were in the picture. He couldn't blame her. He only blamed Neil.

He wishes things were different for them, but this was hand they'd been dealt, no matter how shitty. 

It sucks, but Billy would do anything to keep Max safe. She's his sister, she's his responsibility and he'll do his best to be the brother she deserves.

For Max, he'd do anything. He'd always keep her safe.

OH HMMMMM... i feel like thats the golden question the fandom has been parroting to each other for the last three years..... im unsure to be honest. i think because i am also not the kind of person who says i love you to people, i can understand a little better when people argue for andreil never saying it to each other/kevin....... nevertheless i dont think its impossible at all!!!!! but i do think that its very embarrassing. i can see neil just slurring the words very quickly one morning because he feels bad kevin said it and he didnt answer in time, or andrew blurting it out very blankly once and never again.... thinking emoji...... i imagine that if they do say it to kevin then its really awkward, and if they say it to each other its even more so... but theyd still try to eventually anyway. if just to get the words out once in their lives

ultimately though i dont think kevin really cares for this!!! not even in a being totally certain of it already way but because kevin himself isnt truly used to hearing the word love either. i think him saying it in pfk might sound like it was premeditated but in reality he just said it in the spur of the moment because he truly felt like he loved neil for those 5 minutes he was afforded to nap....!!! in a similar fashion, i dont think kevin would be able to say it in a serious conversation either, so andreil dont really have to worry about it....... but to answer your question in a more concise way: yes it does happen eventually, but its very cringe and awkward and every time without fail the other person just looked at them like ....ok then went on with their lives
