If I told you there was a series of games created before I was born, developed by Capcom, and that I was obsessed with a pairing of middle aged men within; The pairing being comprised of a someone around a decade or so older than the younger, lighter colored hair, stern and serious with a very deadpan sense of humor, along with “this is my job. I shall do it perfectly” demeanor about his work— very cat-coded in general, if you can think it, it will most probably apply— and the younger being very a determined brunette with firm morals who goes toe to toe with the older man and is frequently one of the only ones who can do so with their hell-bent insistence to do good and defend those who cannot, no matter the cost, who is quite dog-coded in reverse. They spend a few years in each other’s company, learning about each other (even if it’s at a distance and professionally) and then. Something happens. The older one of the pair betrays the brunette — his strings being pulled by a higher power, but it does not excuse him— and in the process reveals a cowardly and vengeful side after the event, causing the entirety of the franchise we play to happen. And then only a bit later in the storyline, one murdered the other, in cold but passioned blood, because destiny deemed it this way and they only heed the call of it. And whether or not it was intentional, leaving said murdered man’s child an orphan completely alone in the world as a side effect. For years after the event, they are satisfied with what happened, if burdened by guilt. But they were right to do so, weren’t they? They proceed to be metaphorically haunted by the man they killed for the rest of their life, however. And that will come to a head for them.

Now… am I talking about Chrisker (Chris Redfield/Albert Wesker), or Shingou (Mitsurugi Shin/Karuma Gou) ?

Cyril & Khalid Post VW brother bonding hurt/comfort hours

Happy birthday!!!!

Cyril wakes up, which is the second surprising thing that's happened to him today. The first surprising thing is that today arrived for him at all. Or that he arrived at today. Or– whatever. This kind of philosophical-whatever isn't as important as the fact that he is, in fact, alive, despite his spinning head.

He can work with that.

He sits up, chest, back, arms– yeah, his whole body aching. After the arrow he had taken from atop his wyvern (is she okay?), he doesn't remember much. Falling from way high up does that to a guy. Don't these asshole bandits know the war is years over? 

He's not sure how exactly he's going to catch up on all the work he missed being in bed for so long. Guess he'll just have to power through it.

He manages to get one leg over the bed when the door slams open.

"Nope! Not happening."

Khalid, precariously carrying a tray, swings around and slams the door with his toe, rattling teapot and cups. Cyril twitches to help, but his muscles have other plans. Hissing with a pained groan, he flops back in bed. It’s now he realizes how plush it is, and how, despite the plain walls of the medical hall, he is wrapped in delicate, luxurious blankets and robes over his bandages.

“You dragged me all the way back to the palace?” Cyril mumbles. 

“Wouldn’t’ve had to if someone had retreated when I ordered.” Khalid grins, chipper as he pours two cups of tea, adding a bundle of something to the one he passes Cyril. Cyril raises a brow, props himself up, and takes the tea, giving it a sniff. He takes a sip. Only his training with Shamir those years ago keep him from coughing the foul sludge onto the bed. He’d hate to have to clean it later.

“What is this? Mud?”

“Rude! It’s your very favorite with a little extra twist to help you heal faster. I know it’s going to be impossible to make you stay in bed long enough to actually heal, so I thought I’d speed things along. You’re welcome.”

Cyril glares as he takes another sludgy sip. Khalid sits in the chair beside the bed, crossing his legs as he happily sips his unpoisoned tea. 

Cyril’s nose wrinkles, lips pursing as the aftertaste wipes away any memory of all the delicious foods he’s had since joining Khalid in the palace. He’ll have to ask Khalid to request his favorites as soon as he can eat solid food. Knowing this guy, though, he’ll make the whole damn meal into a feast. Again. 

“It tastes like shit.”

“Shit tea for my favorite little shit.”

“Should a king really talk like that?” Cyril jokes, but Khalid has always switched between his roles like gloves. He talks however best fits his role, in that moment. His role as king, his role as ambassador, his role as a friend, a companion. 

With Cyril? A younger brother.

Khalid grins. His chipper, all-is-well mask is very good today, but Cyril notes the wrinkles at his eyes, the slight darkness under the eyes that Khalid couldn’t cover with his fancy creams. Just from here, Cyril counts three scratches and two bruises. Khalid has been fussing with his lips again, and now they’re dry and torn. 

“I can talk how I like. Perks of being king and all, ” Khalid answers. “And you’ll listen to me, right?”

Ah. Yep, here it comes. 

“Khalid–”

“I told you to run, Cyril.”

Just like that, the atmosphere plunges from warm summer day to oncoming storm. Cyril downs the rest of his tea, holding his steel glare against Khalid’s sharpening diamond grin. Of course, he falters, looking at his hands into the dregs of tea-sludge in the empty cup.

“I know. I’m sorry. I thought I could handle it.”

“But you couldn’t.” The words are sharper than Khalid seems to intend. He clears his throat, standing as he takes his and Cyril’s cups and returns them to the tray. “I saw you go down, Cyril. I watched you crash to the ground with my own eyes.”

“Well, for all you saw it, I felt it. I’m still feeling it now.” Cyril half-assedly tries to quip. Khalid sets him with a firm glare before his expression softens. He pours another cup of tea, not adding his medicines again, and hands it to Cyril. Cyril sips on it, his sense of taste slowly returning. “I’m sorry.”

Khalid takes a deep breath. “Look, just… don’t do that, alright? Don’t put yourself into unnecessary danger. I know, I know, they were just bandits, but even the greatest tacticians of our generation can get caught off guard sometimes.” Despite the quip, his voice shakes, as do his hands when he pours himself more tea.

“This wasn’t your fault. I made my own decision. A bad one, sure,” Cyril says, “but it was my own.”

Khalid heaves a sigh as heavy as the responsibilities on his shoulders. If Cyril had died, Khalid would’ve had one less person to help him carry those burdens. And Cyril, not to brag, is pretty damn good at helping Khalid where he can. And he has to admit, he does like being alive quite a bit. There’s so many beautiful sights for him to see and so many wonderful foods for him to eat here, and though his Almyran language skills aren’t the best right now, they’re slowly coming back as he rips through story after story. It’d be a shame to let this life go to waste, he thinks. Plus he still has to sweep the main hall, scrub the kitchen, feed the wyverns–

“I know, but…I know, Cyril.” Khalid puts his teacup on the tray again and shifts to sit on the bed beside Cyril. “Here, let me check your bandages.”

And of course Khalid isn’t the best medic, but Cyril lets him look. Lets him see that Cyril is healing and will be okay. Khalid wraps him back up, but hesitates to move away. Instead, he bumps his head against Cyril’s, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes. Cyril follows suit.

“I’m still here,” Cyril whispers. “I’m here.”

Just as quickly as he sat down, Khalid gets up, gathering the things he brought with him.

“Get some sleep. I’ll see you again soon.” 

Yeah, he will, Cyril thinks as he lies back into the bed. For as long as Cyril can manage, he’ll be staying right here.

Characters haunting the narrative in the Ace Attorney trilogy:

In AA1, it's Gregory Edgeworth and Misty Fey. Misty Fey isn't even dead yet she's just getting some practice in. Misty and Gregory's deaths (metaphorical in Misty's case, literal in Gregory's) drive the whole narrative.

Misty's absence is what drove Mia to become a lawyer, and what drove her to investigate Bluecorp, which drove her to be killed. Misty's presence is felt throughout all of Turnabout Sisters, despite us knowing next to nothing about her. Misty haunted Mia, who pushed the narrative to put her to rest in herself.

And of course, Gregory's death was the catalyst for AA even existing; his ghost haunts Miles in everything he does, and Von Karma is still taking revenge on that ghost. He can be felt throughout the whole game, but Turnabout Goodbyes specifically. Again, despite us knowing next to nothing about him, he's the driving force of the whole story. And it isn't until Miles confronts his ghost head-on that he stops haunting him. But he never stops haunting Von Karma. Von Karma clings to him until the bitter end.

In Justice for All, it's Miles Edgeworth, actually. Again, the ghosts don't actually have to be dead, as long as people act like they are. And act like it people do. Phoenix refuses to so much as hear his name, and he is Franziska's whole reason for being here. Phoenix's bitterness regarding Miles' supposed death is something he drags along through the whole of JFA, and clouds every interaction he has with Franziska.

When Edgeworth finally appears he is very much treated like a ghost coming back to life, and Phoenix refuses to accept him. Even as Edgeworth becomes an active character once mmore, Phoenix still carries his ghost around. The weight of his death (in Phoenix's eyes, a supposed betrayal) informs every interaction he has with Phoenix. Even when he's there, his spectre, the one who was supposed to be dead, lingers. The idea of Miles Edgeworth's death only stops haunting the narrative when Phoenix stops letting it.

And in Trials and Tribulations, it's Mia Fey and, to a lesser extent, Diego Armando. Mia Fey has actually not been haunting the narrative up until this point; not even in the case where she died. She's been a full blown character, albeit a ghostly one. She actively influences the story in the way a haunting character couldn't. (This is also why Dahlia Hawthorne doesn't haunt this game: she's actively pushing it.)

But in Trials and Tribulations, she haunts Godot. Godot is more haunted than any other character, in fact. He is haunted by Mia, who he loved, but who moved on without him, and was killed without him. And he is, of course, haunted by Diego Armando, the ghost of who he used to be, who was already dead when he woke up. The world had long since treated him as such.

For the first time, Mia cannot control her ghost. She has no say in what Godot carries with him, can't tell him to check the back of a piece of paper for a magic solution. Mia's death is louder than it ever was, and she truly haunts the narrative as a result, pushing every one of Godot's actions as he, in turn, pushes the narrative.

Godot controls the narrative of T&T, and in return, he is controlled by the ghosts of Diego Armando and Mia Fey. Until he isn't. Until he finally accepts that Mia's ghost has long since moved on, and lives on in Phoenix. Until he accepts that Diego never died, and is simply playing dress-up.

The thing about ghosts is that they need someone to haunt, and they can only haunt you for as long as you let them.

the downside of cutting more and more social media out of my life and archiving / deactivating on more and more sites is that I get more and more addicted and spend more and more time on what sites are left after. I want to stop watching youtube 8 hours a day but genuinely, what else is left on the internet after that that's diverting enough to hold my attention

Just some passing thoughts on the Three Hopes supports for Edelgard

I didn't look at all of them since: A) I don't have the game yet (might buy it later this or next year) B) Didn't really have time to just sit down and watch em all

But there were fewer supports than I expected a fire emblem game to have. Although this is technically a warriors game so I guess it's probably different here. They did have some pretty interesting support choices, especially with the ones with different characters they added in that Edelgard didn't get in Three Houses.

Obviously, I meant the Edelgard and Jeritza support, which was actually a surprising take on their relationship compared to how I (and probably most) saw it would be. Between the two of them in this new Jeritza support, he seems almost sane compared to how he's regularly depicted in Three Houses. (Although he's pretty sane-ish in most of his supports. Just not with Byleth then, I guess.)

(Spoilers maybe? under the cut)

Jeritza and Edelgard's support seems to show the two in a more equal/friendly(?) standing than I expected. Death Knight doesn't really show up but he's definitely touched upon. I feel like it's not as surprising in hindsight that Edelgard knew Jeritza's original name, but it's surprising that she would call him Emile. Edelgard does not mince words with him at all, but the dialogue also seems like they're definitely friendly with each other to some extent. They mention the contract between them a few times, and honestly, Jeritza appears to respect her to a decent degree. What's most interesting is the contract, or rather, Edelgard's thoughts on that end of the deal. She blatantly tells Jeritza that while she admires his determination to follow his own path, she thinks he could atone in better ways than being stuck in a prison cell. Jeritza replies that it is his path.

In that sense, they really are similar to each other in that aspect. They'll carve their own paths the way they wish, through hell and high water.

Jeritza is also shown to feel rather greatly indebted towards Edelgard. And I guess he's kind of fine with her calling him Emile occasionally. Plus he's decently dedicated to the cause at least in this support.

Also Edelgard low-key tries her best to bug Jeritza and I think it's very funny. Yeah you go girl go bug him.

I do wonder if they ever met as children?

(Nintendo out here feeding that part of me that desires more Edelgard & Jeritza content. It doesn't even have to be romantic I just wanted them to interact since 3 houses kinda just dropped him and his supports like a hot potato and called it a day. To be fair Jeritza/Edelgard would be really interesting.)

Hubert and Edelgard's support is very in your face with how close the two are. I love it. Whether you ship them or not it's still very cute. Edelgard blushes in it and I think that's adorable. They should kiss, actually. Thank you Nintendo, for feeding the part of me that craves edelbert content.

But that's not what I fixated on the most from their support.

What I did fixate on, is the A support section where Edelgard mentions a strange pull/connection to Byleth. Both Hubert and Edelgard theorize that it could be due to the implanted crest of flames, which makes sense. Yet it does bring up some implications about Edelgard's quick attachment to Byleth in all routes in Three Houses. Does the crest connection magnify positive feelings towards Byleth? Other than other factors, was this why Edelgard was so quick to trust Byleth? Who knows, but it's pretty interesting fic fuel. It could either be edeleth or not. Just a fic exploring that (magical?) connection between the two.

Overall though from what I've been reading three hopes' storyline is kind of odd and sort of fluctuates between ???? and pretty interesting and why. But maybe I've only been looking at the false(?) ends.

Shez actually gets to speak here in comparison to Byleth, so maybe that's an improvement? Definitely seems more engaged in the conversation as an actual character I guess.

Thinking abt Ace Attorney Social media HCs

Phoenix: Technologically illiterate, doesn’t really know what social media is or how to use it and refuses to learn because the longer he keeps up the bit the funnier it gets

Edgeworth: Doesn’t particularly care for social media, but found out about tumblr through Maya and now has an anonymous Steel Samurai account. His tagging system is meticulous and he has all notifications turned off. He treats it like he does office work. He and Maya are mutuals. Doesn’t have a personal account to speak of

Maya: Runs a semi-popular canon url pink princess and steel samurai fan tumblr. Also has a personal Instagram that’s mostly her eating burgers

Pearl: Didn’t have social media for a long time because of Morgan, but Maya introduced her and she has a very inactive private Instagram. She’s also in charge of the Kurain Village socials, which are very neat and professional

Mia: Was technologically illiterate and died before the social media boom was completely inescapable so nada

Diego: Socials weren’t as big before he fell into a coma and afterwards he doesn’t care too much about his image so he has nothing. HOWEVER, Maya started a twitter called “dead philosopher wisdom” that’s just random Diegoisms. He’s doing NUMBERS on there but is unaware of it because he doesn’t use twitter

Franziska: Knows how social media works because she needs it for her job but doesn’t use it very often. Her account has like 2 posts on it and she mostly uses it to keep track of targets and online paper trails

Kay: Runs an instagram account called “Edgeworth where he shouldn’t be” that’s nothing but silly and embarrassing candids of Edgeworth. Oldbag won’t stop messaging her asking who she is and how she’s getting these pictures

Apollo: Has a twitter with two followers that he uses to retweet and comment on legal academia news. He’s super active on all the law forums and legal advice columns and unfortunately has definitely posted on r/AskALawyer on mutliple occasions. His real claim to fame, though, is the anonymous Instagram he runs for his cat Mikeko. It’s called “The Pawsecutor’s Office” and he dresses up Mikeko like all the prosecutors (Miles Edgepurrth, Clawvier Gavin, Franziska Von Catma, etc) for photoshoots and silly skits. It’s wildly popular and Apollo would die if he were revealed to be behind it

Klavier: Super popular across all platforms and loves being silly online. If Edgeworth saw all the thirst traps he was posting he would prolly have a heart attack

NOLPATS BURNER ACCOUNT

SO HERE IS THE TEA AND BREAKDOWN ON NOLANS ALLEGED TWITTER BURNER (I also want to apologise for the initial hostile reply to the anon that sent it in I was just taken back cause there weren't upfront receipts).

If you’re wondering how this alleged account was figured out, an anon said someone tweeted about it and decided to look into it... and then now we are here...

SO HERE WE GO!

His FIRST account that went under @ gollpatter the account got suspended (He tweets about it on his second account, but you’re still able to see everything).

So now the account he is using the new one is @ shottergallas.

(So just remember there are two accounts. I know some can get confused lol).

WARNING: I know people are going to be running up the accounts anyways but will say just a heads up you will be finding shit that you don’t like mentioning SA and misogynistic comments, some of the comments are towards the incident of WJC 2018. (If I’m right it’s brought up on @ gollpatter)

Now we may all be here like okay… how do we know or assume it's actually him??? Here is my personal observation

If you look at the following on the first account @ GOLLPATTER. You can see that there are about 4+ people on there that he follows that are obviously his friends and has Steinbach Manitoba in the bio. Some of the content and influencers he follows or interacts with on there also align with his recent or past followings/likes/engagements on Instagram from celebs, influencers, sport hosts and even onlyfangirls (I’ll even get specific if I have to) . His interests are evidently displayed throughout his account... things like MMA, golf, hockey, Joe Rogan, Theo Von and other typical guy shit, but as I said if you followed up on him or paid attention to his Instagram activity it adds up.

An Anon that initially sent me the sub on why she thought or had her own conclusions to why she thought it was him which I’ll be copying and pasting the sub down below and adding the links to the info she provided! To make everyone’s lives easier.

The hockey talk on the account that pop up usually I noticed has pertained to Vegas and the Flyers (some slight shady tweets mostly but nothing over the top) Maybe just some coincidence but I mean hey… we all know what teams he’s played for. Plus there are some Travis Konency mentions on there as well…

So “his” account interacts with the same 2-4 twitter accounts and these accounts tend to tag him in post about Nolpats which I found a bit ironic…

So the last to this which I thought was another eyebrow raiser, was another burner account that has some mutuals but isn't entirely active. Also tagged his account in a post regarding a Tik Tok. The context of the Tiktok was how most likely pro athletes do see the things you post online about them.

So would like to end this off with reminding you that this ALLEGED and there’s no real confirmation it’s him. You’re able to form your own opinion and perspective if you decide to look through and analyse the accounts yourself. I could go on more on some other details, but decided to just touch up on the things that stood out to me. I also was limited to adding content like photos and videos.

ok u know what that tag WAS bait, thank you for taking it. technically speaking these aren't works dealing strictly with labor in historical fiction, they are my four treasured examples of BUREAUCRAT FICTION (so not NOT about labor in history?) i was gonna try to make this post pithy and short but then i remembered how extremely passionate i am about this microgenre i made up. so sorry.

bureaucrat fiction is not limited by genre or format but criteria for inclusion are as follows: long and detour-filled story about functionary on the outside of society finding unexpected success within a ponderously large and powerful System/exploring themes of class and physicality and work and autonomy and what it means to hold power over others beneath the heartless crushing wheels of empire/sad little man does paperwork. also typically long as hell. should include at least one scene where the protagonist is unironically applauded-perhaps for the first time in their life-for filling out a form really good. without further ado:

soldier's heart by alex51324. the bureaucracy: british army medical corps during wwi. the bureacrat: mean gay footman/new ramc recruit thomas barrow. YEAH it's a downton abbey fic YEAH it's a masterpiece. i've talked about it before at length, my love has not faded. the crowning moment of bureaucracy is a long interlude where thomas optimizes the hospital laundry (this actually happens twice or maybe three times)

hands of the emperor by victoria goddard. the bureaucracy: crumbling fantasy empire some time after magical apocalypse. the bureacrat: passionate late-career clerk from the hinterlands cliopher mdang. i reread this book every winter bc it is as a warm bath for my SAD-addled brain and every time i neglect all my responsibilities to read all nine billion pages in three days. it puts abt 93% of the worldbuilding momentum into elaborating all of the ministries and secretaries and audits necessary to run a global government and like 7% into the magic and stuff. there are also several charming companion novellas and an equally long sequel that dives more into the central relationship between cliopher and the emperor which i highly recommend if you like gentle old man yaoi and/or magic, but there's more bureaucracy in HOTE.

the cromwell trilogy by hilary mantel. the bureaucracy: court of henry viii. the bureaucrat: thomas cromwell, the real guy. curveball! it's critically acclaimed booker prize winning rpf novel wolf hall! mantel is really interested in particular ways of gaining and maintaining power in delicate and labyrinthine systems like the tudor court, specifically in strongmen who use both physical intimidation and metaphysical manipulation to succeed. under these conditions i do think my best friend long-dead historical personage thomas cromwell counts as Bureaucrat Fiction (as do danton and robespierre in a place of greater safety. bonus rec.)

going postal by terry pratchett. the bureaucracy: fantasy postal service of ankh-morpork. the bureaucrat: conman, scammer, and little freak moist von lipwig. this is definitely shorter and lighter than the other three entries on the list, sort of a screwball take on the bureaucrat. but the mail is such a classic bureaucracy thing? who doesn't love thinking about the mail? also contains a key genre element which is a fraught sexual tension with the person immediately above the protagonist in their hierarchy, who is also their god-king and boyfriend-dad. you can't tell me vetinari isn't torturing moist psychologically AND sexually.
