I love every "Death set Dream up with Hob on purpose" headcanon, and I love "actually I was planning to throw Chaucer at you but I can wing it pretty damn well and, once I heard Hob call me stupid, I knew, yeah that's going to be Dream's boyfriend". Death: knowing our brother, I was carefully managing my expectations and was just glad he was still doing the century meetups last time I'd checked. I don't often talk about RP because I don't think I have anything interesting to bring to the table, but I just had this thought.

cc!Etoiles is always very vocal about HATING (and when I say hate I don't use this lightly I've rarely seen him react that intensely to anything else gameplay wise) PVP log (the act of logging off during a fight to avoid dying/losing damage). He is always about playing fair and square, if anything you need to remember about his mindset as a player, it's fairness.

This fits perfectly with q!Etoiles. He's always about defending people who are vulnerable, fighting for what is right (to him and his moral compass) and overall destroying anything that could be a threat/harmful to his loved ones. This coupled with the hc I saw someone mention on Day 1 of Purgatory of q!Etoiles being raised on UHC and feeling in his natural habitat definitely feeds in the "soldier-child" narrative.

Growing up playing UHC, q!Etoiles is all about following the rules of a duel, he's very much a gentleman in that matter. He knows all the strategies, the numbers and calculations needed to fully understand how to win a fight. He also understands that fighting someone who hasn't spent pretty much their entire life perfectioning their combat skills is unfair, and it's not even fun. He thrives in fighting against people who can potentially kill him, because then, it could potentially mean that they have the same understanding of what's at stake.

He was (wrongfully) painted as this bloodthirsty, merciless fighter by most islanders when he first arrived because they did not understand that the reason why he's so good at PVP was because he has always been meticulous and diligent in his training, but never unfair. Proof is that even when he killed other islanders/raided blue team's base he did not want to destroy anything because it didn't feel right to him.

Just now as I'm typing this he just said that he did not like the idea of destroying other team's bases because it would be too frustrating for them and that with a gameplay like that. Even if cc!Etoiles is very much holding back because of irl things, I find it so interesting how it fits PERFECTLY with q!Etoiles' soldier mindset even if unintentional (yes it makes sense because it's literally his cubito but leave me be okay). Remember how he was holding a q!Roier who was foaming at the mouth (my beloved) on a leash because he knew acting reckless and unprepared would not end well for them ? There's nothing impulsive about the man cucumber, he learned how to stay cool-headed because it's with a clear mind that you actually achieve your goals, very much what you learn in the army. Don't act on an impulse, act carefully but efficiently.

Anyways I think he's cool :D

The problem with big fandoms (using "problem" in a very loose sense here) is that it's really hard to stumble across the weird niche undertagged stuff when its being buried in five million coffee shop/royalty/high school/soulmate aus. If there are 150 works in the tag total you can look through very quickly and find anything that appeals to you. When there are over a million it is much harder to do that.

#im very into a genre of fic i like to think of as #'canon adjacent but we got silly with it' #like crack treated seriously and very specific canon divergences and obscure crossovers #the lore is intact but the plot diverges #or it doesnt even technically diverge its just set pre- or post-canon or focusing on side characters #i want two characters who never met in canon running into each other and getting into shenaningans #i want time travel fix it but only for this one specific guy who doesnt know or care what the protagonists are doing #au where due to some cascading nonsense the plots of season 1 and 10 are happening at the same time #this specific character didnt get killed off and is just sort of around now #au where everything is the same but one of the protagonists is some sort of creature #unfortunately this is a very broad category #and it is impossibly to effectively filter out everything that does not fit the bill while still including everything that does #i can filter out my notps but if im ambivalent towards the juggernaut ship of the fandom that doesnt help much #fanfic

i actually just really like the dynamic of apple and maddie being together, like not in a romantic way; but regardless it's genuinely such a FUN pairing??

like the contrast between those two is such a fun dynamic to play with, because on one hand we have apple, who is a complete stick in the mud, she is basically the posterchild for ever after high in a sense.

she's a stickler for tradition and is very obviously gunning for her destiny. she's someone who likes rules, she's someone who likes order; in fact, she's someone who enforces rules and order. apple is someone who's rather straightforward and very neat and orderly. she carefully plans out each and every thing to make sure that she's on top of everything, and to make sure that nothing can go wrong; she leaves no room for error. apple is also someone who doesn't like chaos, who doesn't like disorder, she doesn't like having elements that she can't control (which in this case could be raven choosing not to sign etc. etc.) and again, apple white is someone who loves structure.

maddie is a bit different obviously. maddie is a proud wonderlandian through and through and damn if she's going to let someone give her shit about that. maddie speaks in riddles. she wears a giant fucking hat out of which she can pull out every known thing to man apparently. she can interact with the narrators of their world and is, i think, the only who ever came close to realizing that their world is one that is fictional and they are just characters.

maddie is nonsensical. she is the opposite of order, the opposite of someone who follows rules and plans and the opposite of someone who loves structure; which is, in this case, apple. maddie is someone who can very easily do the impossible, like eat rocks for instance, if not told that this feat is impossible. she thinks outside the box in all occasions. she's fiercely intelligent and wise but her way of thinking is so unorthodox very few are able to understand her. maddie likes being free i believe. she likes having the freedom to do what she wants, hence she also likes her destiny because the mad hatter's destiny is a rather flexible one.

regardless, i think it's such a fun dynamic to have. you have someone who desperately clings to rules and plans and schedules and orders and who constantly builds upon them and supports them and backs them up in order to feel some semblance of control.

and then you have someone who could not give less of a shit about these rules, who could give less of a shit about conforming to the ideals of ever after high, and who is rather well off simply living in their own way, as they would wish to, without having someone to impose regulations or boundaries upon them.

apple is, genuinely, order exemplified. she is everything that is Ever After High; she follows her destiny to a T, she doesn't want anything else, has never wanted anything else, because this is all she's had in her life. she wants to have control over all things at all times because in the one instance where she wasn't in control, where she was going to drown. she clings heavily to destiny, to order itself, because she feels like it's the safest thing she has; the most sure thing she has.

maddie is, in a sense you could say, chaos exemplified. she's the opposite of what apple white is. maddie likes her destiny, sure, but she's not hellbent on enforcing the ideal of destiny; she'd just rather everyone be happy and free to do what they want. there are no sure things for maddie, someone who is a refugee in a strange new world, someone who had her home ripped away from her. they are no sure things for her but she doesn't let that get in her way, because she realizes that you can't control everything and she ends up much better off for it.

and i think it's such a strange dynamic, these two. the person who fears the loss of order the most and the one who easily breaks it on a whim.
