Why Miraculous LadyBug Is the Worst Thing To Happen To Magical Girl Genre in All Its History.

It would be easy to sit here and tell you all the logical reasons why Ladybug is a bad show. It has horrible pacing, it has low stakes, repetitive episodes, and a dialogue that is cringe worthy enough to get its own tiktok sound.

But saying that, would be beating a dead horse at this point. Everyone knows this show is a bunch of wasted potential, only made worse by a director who keeps thinking he created gold, when in fact he messed up in a lot of areas – particularly the fact that he’s a grown man who thinks he knows what little girls want.

I’m not here for that.

Particularly, because I can be quite forgiving to shows like this. I mean, they’re kids' shows! Meant for little girls, and I haven’t been one for a few years now. But I still enjoy them.

Why? Well, cause I’m a massive fan of Magical Girl animes. I love the glitter, the sparkles, the silly adventures with friends, and the transformation sequences! Even with all its flaws, I really like them. So, stories or shows that borrow from them, get a pass in all these things.

I mean, I have fun re-watching WINX Club, I love Star Vs The Forces of Evil despite its flaws. Steven Universe holds a deep place in my heart and She-Ra is…She-Ra is in its very own league of how amazing it is.

So, no. Be it a very dumb show or a very smart one, I can have fun. It’s very rare when a show with, you know, glitter, girly stuff and animals CAN’T hold my attention.

But, well, MLB failed at that.

It’s just, not a good show.

I mean, it could be. But the age demographic would need to drop several, several age groups just to be barely watchable – and even then, I seriously doubt that it would be good for young girls to watch it. The lessons it teaches are concerning, to say the least.

And at this point, you may be thinking,

"Why do you care so much about this show? It’s dumb and you’ve acknowledged it treats its demographic as toddlers. Why do you care so much?"

Well, because I've been here... for a very, very long time.

Listen, I started watching Miraculous Ladybug, back when I was in high school. Maybe a bit old, but, hey, a lot of unique cartoons came out around that time. (Star Vs, Steven Universe, etc). So, I was hopeful. Really hopeful.

Mainly, because I was here before it EVEN premiered. I remember it. The original PV was 2D animated and it had this vague Princess Tutu vibes that JUST I couldn’t resist. It was clear as day that it borrowed a lot of its inspiration from magical girls from the 90's, probably even 80's.

The premise looked similar enough to Kaito Jeanne, and Kaito St. Tail for me to draw those conclusions.

It had a dynamic very similar to Princess Tutu and seemed like a mix of silly and dark like that one was.

To be honest, I could even see hints of Sugar Sugar Rune with Pierre and Felix.

Not to mention, the animation was beautiful.

I will never, never forget that scene with Chat looking at Ladybug starry-eyed under the Paris Moonlight. That was so beautiful, a genuine touch of romance that rang so similar to the Magical Girl animes I grew up with.

I was thrilled, I was excited. I wanted this show to succeed, before even the premier had dropped.

This is all to say -

I never came to this show with the intention for it to fail.

And I didn’t expect nor want it to be ground-breaking or a giant of the genre. I just hoped I could have a fun time.

I didn't want subversions, I didn't want it to be dark, or deep. All I wanted, was sparkles, fun and a good time.

So, when it first aired, I tried to stay positive. I tried to like it, even when it had all these massive red flags.

I’ve never been a big fan of 3D animation, and especially not how it’s used in Magical Girl animes. (We all know the disaster the first season of Sailor Moon Crystal was).

But I swallowed it down.

I was here since day 1. I was here when Stormy Weather premiered. I was here before many of you were, and

I swallowed it all down.

Because I really, really wanted this to be good.

And I really thought it would.

But things should have been made clear, when they fucked up the one thing they shouldn't. The one thing that held this all together. The one thing that kept me here even as everything was burning to the ground, and I was too naive to realize it.

They fucked up the thing that started all this, to begin with.

You could really tell Steven universe was inspired by revolutionary girl utena with the way Rose Quartz/Pink diamond. I don’t mean in a “these characters are completely one on one the same character” way, but like they have similar elements.

- they’re both god-like beings (the diamonds technically serve as both gods/rulers in Steven universe, while Anthy’s godhood is more vague)

- they’re both Rose-themed, but more flower themed in general (self-explanatory with the Rose quartz thing but also being with the flowers seen with rose. While the roses are more the symbols of everyone in utena, Anthy is specifically the rose bride. She also has a whole garden and her name is reference to the Greek goddess of flowers)

- both are abused by their familliar figures. (Pink diamond received different kinds of abuse with the diamonds, who act as her parental figures. Anthy, who faces a more extreme case of SA and abuse by her brother, literally being stabbed with millions of swords that represent humanity’s hatred)

- Both have a direct affect on the narrative and most, if not all characters (this more applies in the later seasons of Steven universe. The whole reason the duels exist in the first place is so that someone takes ownership of the rose bride)

-Both have other character’s project their own idealised versions onto themselves, and the audience can’t really guess their true intentions throughout the entirety of their story is really up to interpretation.(Rose is seen as a inspirational figure throughout Steven universe,most obviously in pearl’s entire character and how garnet is talked about and reacts when roses turns out to be pink diamond,though arguably justifiable. Utena,through both her ideology of being a prince, removes anthy of all her agency and inserts what SHE thinks anthy should do. )

-After abandoning their previous life, they are noticeably different from their original form. (Rose resembles more of a human in her base form. Anthy is, unfortunately, whitewashed but she now wears her hair down and has an entirely different dress.)

Who Is Lily Orchard?

Well the short version is that she's a youtuber who rose to fame during the MLP day's as an analyst, as well as a writer for her own comic called "Poke-Madhouse" and "The Sith Resurgence".

She is most famous for her "Steven Universe is Garbage and Here's Why" video.

But of course, if it was that simple, there woudn't be so many blogs talking about her.

Lily has repeadetly abused, lied and taken advantage of others. She has written pornographic content involving minor's, engaged in smear campaigns and so many other issues that it would take forever and a day to cover.

But don't just take my word for it. Below, you'll find a link to various google drives, documents and screen shots. In other words, evidence and proof of her actions. (The list is not complete in it's current form. If you can think of anything else that should be added to the list/receipts that I'm missing, let me know so that I can include them.)

The Receipts:

The Lily Orchard Fan Pack : This archive has a lot of documents that come from her Bhaalspawn days. From fan fictions, games, to her Yahtzee inspired sprites. The Lily Orchard Archive: This archive contains a lot of information that I didn't know about. It has links to some of Lily's old YouTube video's from her Bhaalspawn days that have been preserved on Daily motion. It has archives of Lily's old NSFW blog. And it links to a few other people that I have not talked about here.

However, there is dead naming, and links to the 8chan boards. But I think for the archives it does hold, this is an important link.

The Brittany Logs: Brittany was an old friend of Lily's, whom Lily cut contact with because Brittany wasn't playing World of Warcraft fast enough for her liking. (No really.), However, if that was the only problem, this wouldn't have been linked. Oh, no. Lily, using her alter ego Tara Callie, would try to pressure Brittany into being sexual with her.

Tara Callie's Blog: Who is Tara Callie? Well, outside of being Lily's sock puppet account, she was also supposedly Lily's ex-girlfriend. A runaway from Colorado, she was apparently in an incestuous relationship with her sister before her sister passed away. She would then die in a car crash before coming back a few days later after people expressed sadness over her passing, and finally, was apparently arrested for possession of CP and was never seen or heard from again.

Blake: This is another person who used to be friends with Lily back in the day, during the same time as Brittany. Just like Brittany, Blake was getting sexually harassed by Tara Callie, in an attempt to trick them into being sexual with Lily. Their friendship appears to have degraded with Blake's mental health to a nose dive, and instead of offering them a helping hand or support, Lily instead chose to further isolate Blake from the friend group, started to insult them for getting into video making, and finally ending the friendship when Blake made a post about Tumblr feminism that Lily didn't agree with.

Lily's First Swatting Claim: On October 11, Josh makes a tumblr post (read it here), stating that he is no longer going to maintain his silence on Lily. The next day, Lily claims to have gotten swatted (read that post here).

Animechristy: Who is Animechristy? Well, she's an artist whose work Lily used without permission in one of her videos, and then proceeded to make an entire glass of waters video about after admitting to deliberately causing the situation out of spite. You can watch the video here. Lily, of course, conveniently leaves out sources for a lot of this, so here are some that I found.

Period Comment, Knob Comment, respect the artist #1, Lightning Bliss blocks Lily, Lily's video gets copyrighted, Lily getting mad that someone suggests Christy was in the right, Lily comparing this situation to digital homicide, Lily showing off the copyright claim.

The Opal Situation: Opal was a fan of Lily's who committed the sin of not drawing Lily's puppet with the correct proportions. Rather than discussing this in private, Lily blasted Opal in the open, leading to Opal getting harassed by Lily's other fans. (You can see the original post here.)

Lizzy's Story: If you've followed Lily's content for any period of time, you've probably heard about Lizzy, Lily's ex fiancée. Lizzy has come out with her side of the story, which you can read on her twitter in the following links: Part 1, Part 2, Further testimony.

Cypher: Cypher is an ex friend of Lily's who'se relationship ended over World of Warcraft shipping discourse. The reason this is notable, is because Lily began to start a smear campaign against Cypher almost immediately after she ended their friendship. Here's the receipt, including Cypher's testimony.

What the deal with Keffals?

Lily was trying to get close to Keffals for a few months. Appearing in her discord server and streams. However, Keffals then spoke to Zena & Poppy, (you can see video here) and Lily seems to be very bitter about this, if these receipts are anything to go by:

Just to get ahead of the curve and to save my future self some headache, Lily has been vague posting about someone, and currently many people think it's carousel. This has not been confirmed yet.

The Patch Drive: Patch has a video up on YouTube explaining their story that you can watch here, but the Google doc has more evidence in it for those who are interested in the receipts. The long and short of it; Patch was an artist who turned to Lily for help after being abused by ToonKritic. Lily would then take advantage of their vulnerability to draw nsfw art work they weren't comfortable with.

Stockholm: Ah yes, the infamous Stockholm. The fic contains sexual assault of minors as young as 13, nsfw scenes and bad writing. The Story follows Rainbow Dash and Fluttershies relationship, as they fall in love, get married, and have kids... among other things.

To be blunt, it's underage porn.

E621 Account: Lily's account on the site was found, and held quite an interesting array of art work... dealing with underage individuals. She has indirectly revealed that the account in question was in fact hers, and she apparently made a second account that got found out and deleted. You can find the OG links here.

Sankaku Account: Lily's other p*rn account that was found under the name of EbaraTara. This one is far more upsetting, as it involved a lot more realistic paedophilia than the other one.

A few things to note about this account is that two of the artists who were favourite have been caught using real children as references for their works. These artists are called Kaneda and masked.

Title: Lion Scouts Summary: Steven, Connie, and their four kids go hiking in the North Wydaho wilderness. Word Count: 513

A tiny, wee bit late, but here it is! For Glow Week day 6, I used the prompt "Vacation."

The short is also beneath the cut:

“You know, almost fifteen years ago, your mother and I hiked down this very same trail!” Steven beamed from beside his wife. A gargantuan bag containing an assortment of survival gear rested against his back.

“Yeah? Well it’s boring,” Lisa moaned from over her parents’ shoulders. Her arms were firmly crossed as she paced alongside Lion. “There’s just a bunch of trees and squirrels. If I wanted to see those, I could go into our backyard.”

“I think the trail’s beautiful,” the girl’s younger brother, Gregory, twinkled from behind her. He yanked his yellow-red, hand-me-down ukulele off his back. “I’m getting so much inspiration for my next song,” he grinned before strumming a chord on his instrument.

“If you start singing, I think I’m gonna puke,” the boy’s twin sister, Priya, shivered from his left side. “I already hear enough singing at home; I don’t need to hear any more on vacation,” she snorted, elbowing her brother in his abdomen.

“I think some music would be great right about now,” Grace, the eldest sibling, yawned from atop Lion’s back. “I’m normally all for a good hike, but”—she quirked an eyebrow—”middle-of-nowhere North Wydaho?” She darted her eyes around her surroundings; her most exciting observation was a mossy rock. She tittered, “What are we doing out here?”

“Taking a stroll down memory lane,” Steven sing-songed.

“This was one of your father’s favorite stops on his three-year-long road trip,” Connie lectured as she readjusted her scabbard’s strap. She reminisced, “During my first spring break from college, I joined him out here for a whole week.” She booted a sizable stone from the path. “It was…” she smiled timidly, “romantic.”

“Barf!” Lisa mock-gagged; her siblings all snickered.

The family made their way into a miniature, grassy clearing from which a plethora of nearby landmarks could be made out. Chief among them was a moderately sized, vaguely-heart-shaped lake.

“It’s just as I remember it!” Steven gasped. “Kids, this was our camping spot! We slept here every night for seven days straight!” He sprinted to a nearby boulder which he lifted effortlessly with one arm; beneath it, a pair of familiar initials were carved, encased in a crudely drawn heart. “See? We marked it as ours and everything!”

“Woah, cool,” Grace remarked.

Steven pointed toward a small stream. “That’s where your mother and I searched for crayfish.” He tapped his foot atop a small collection of ovular stones. “Here’s where we made dinner every night.” He whipped around, nearly causing his backpack to topple. “And over there”—he pointed in the direction of a respectable mound—”was where we helped a group of marmots dig a new burrow after a badger destroyed their old one!”

“Badgers are rad,” Lisa smirked. “Should’a let it keep the burrow.”

Swiveling on his heel once more, Steven took immediate notice of the heart-shaped lake in the near distance; he went starry-eyed. “Oh my stars!” he squealed, bouncing on his knees. “Connie, Connie, look! It’s the lake where we—”

The woman slapped a palm over her husband’s mouth. “Not around the kids!”

- exhibit B, the Alex from MTV Downtown, I've heard of the show only vaguely, so I tried my best to portray the character even though I don't know anything about him

Sentient Crystal Obi-wan AU (Pinocchio Obi-wan?)

AU where Obi-Wan's soul is within a Kyber Crystal. Featuring made-up Force shenanigans, probably. Could be considered a Steven Universe-esque AU?

This is vaguely inspired by a droid!Obi-wan fic I read a while ago, which was super well done btw, totally recommend. There are 3 versions of the back story.

Obi-wan was a youngling from ye olden days of the republic (KOTOR? or close to that). Youngling Obi-wan went somewhere he wasn't supposed to be, and was caught up in a battle. Long story short he went into critical condition and his mind was unconscious/in a coma, and to save him, the old jedi sealed his soul within a kyber crystal, to heal and protect him. Featuring some lost jedi technique idk.

The jedi (Qui-gon Jinn?) found a sentient kyber crystal in Ilum. They didn't know it's sentient, only that it seems to be drawn to the Jedi. Later, as the Masters study it, Qui-gon accidentally awakens the sentient soul.

Some guy found a crystal. They don't know it's a special crystal, but it provides an energy source, so they use it to build a droid. The jedi notice and buy the droid from the guy.

So as Obi-wan's sentience within the crystal awakens, the jedi create a body for him by basically inputting the crystal inside a droid. The council was like no way at first but then actually meet him and were like okay we have to protect him. Obi-wan is now a sentient droid who can use the force, and his lightsaber blade just kinda shoots out his hand??? anyway. Qui-gon feels hesitant to take him in at first but later he changes his mind because he believes Obi-wan deserves a chance. He becomes kind of a target of dark force users because of the powerful kyber crystal. His sentience is kind of this weird open secret situation to force users in general because nobody could really put a finger over this situaion. The senate don't really get it, they just think the jedi are weird. When they go to mandalore, Satine falls for him and has a crisis lmao, then Obi Wan reveals to her his weird situation. They keep in touch, afterwards.

Events of TPM happen, they meet anakin skywalker. Padme doesn't question Obi-wan's situation. Qui-gon dies. Obi-wan takes in Anakin, and albeit the rocky start, they get along well, and Anakin kind of becomes Obi-wan's personal doctor. Sometimes Obi-wan lets Anakin do upgrades, and sometimes Anakin uses the wrong grease lmao.

AOTC and TCW. Obi-wan finds the clones, but this time he's not alone and with Shaak Ti. Rescuing Anakin and Padme involves obi-wan doing some bad disguise work. Dooku attempts to corrupt Obi-wan's crystal, and fails, but war breaks. The clones are tense around Obi-wan at first, because he is a droid. but later, he proves himself trustworthy and they accept him with open arms. Ahsoka tano is fascinated by Obi-wan.

This is what I have so far.

later, I'm not sure when this will happen, but I'm thinking Mortis arc? The gist is this: in Mortis/Force Planet, droid obi-wan malfunctions because of the force, and so his soul kinda wanders? but in the end, Obi-wan has a revelation and something happens to his kyber crystal hoists his body up via Force alone. When they leave Mortis, his droid body collapses, and when they get back, it is irreparable. at first, they consider making a new one, but for whatever reason it just wont work. Force whispering stuff to Yoda, who suggests the council + obi wan and ahsoka do group meditation together with the crystal.

They meet Obi-wan in what I can only describe as shared force zoom. But when they see him, it's not droid!Obi-wan, it's ewan mcgregor/clone wars obi wan, auburn beard and everything. Yoda has a revelation- They can separate Obi-wan's soul from the crystal which will create a new body for Obi-wan (aforementioned ewan mcgregor body) via force shenanigans. But it will take teamwork and some time.

this is what I have so far for this au. it was fun to conceptualize it, though- maybe it'll be a reality one day?

Genuine question, does your artstyle take inspiration from anyone or anything in particular? Im in LOVE with your artstyle btw :)

im not sure tbh XD; i have very specific inspirations for my furry art, but when it comes to drawing people, it came kind of organically from trying to evolve from a very simple chibi toony style to drawing real people/musicians. i take vague inspiration from don bluth/disney style as well as 70s shoujo, but i dont think they're too evident in my work. if anything, i just try to keep things stretchy and organic. rebecca sugar's work outside of steven universe is very gooey, organic, and has a lot of flow which i love. generally, i just try to have flow in my work, thats the most important thing for my art style.

1. MAN. OH MAN. WELL. that definitely depends on what you mean by first OC ever. bc like. back in Kindergarten I loved Lisa Frank and I gave all the specific animals their own names and personalities. I had these coloring books and I always colored that specific animal with its own specific color scheme, some of which were the super colorful Lisa Frank colors but some where normal colors, and there was a whole story I made up around that. I don't remember any of their names or stories anything, but I do remember getting VERY upset when my mom made me share my coloring book with a cousin during a wedding, and they colored a cat that was supposed to be mundane colors blue instead.

the first named character I can remember was literally just called Rainbow Bird, I think I was in 2nd grade maybe?? I was really into birds and also Digimon, so I had this story about a digital world where people take on bird personas and do birdy things. but there was one named Rainbow Bird who only existed in the digital world, and it was his job to wake up every morning, fly across this waterfall, creating a rainbow with his long, colorful tail feathers, and that "opened up" the world for the day. one day he got tired of having to fly back across the waterfall at the end of the night to send all his friends home, so the government started chasing him and the bird friends that we're helping him ???? lmfao I used to run around the playground flapping my arms and pretending to be him, and there was this certain section I HAD to jump across to signify the end of recess.

the first OCs I ever rp'd were based on these barbie dolls and they lived in the Yugioh universe in Domino City. (to this day I still think that one in the green is hot as fuck and I would still wear the pink one's entire outfit) I made custom ace cards for them and everything. they were such awful Mary Sues, I'm pretty sure one of them had beef with Kaiba for some reason, and they were very short lived. that was back on the neopets forums

aaaaaand the first OCs I played here on tumblr were named Jupiter and Elara. I think they were space pirates ????? it was something with aliens, but I don't remember much from it at all tbfh. Elara had a skateboard? it was very vaguely Steven Universe inspired. that is where my Alias came from tho

More voice claims, and more characters this time around

I was gonna try to do all my Olivia characters I have so far, but a handful of them were proving difficult to figure out, so I decided to go with what I already had. If I can figure out the rest, I'll have a part two for this one.

(sorry if some are a lot shorter than the others, I have more to say about some of them than the rest... just know I stand by my choices for the most part lol)

Olivia Wolfgang - Tara Strong (Unikitty - UniKitty!): This was another one that in my mind was "specific yet vague" (still don't know if that phrase makes sense but), but I kind of figured it out? The thing with Olivia's voice is that I don't want it to be too annoying, but it still has to be the right amount of childish/excited. A lot of possible voices were either too high or babyish, or not childish enough. Since one of my biggest inspirations for her as a character was Spongebob (who is voiced by Tom Kenny), I supposed that a voice done by someone like Tara Strong could probably work, and I've found that her voice for Unikitty is the best example so far. However, one thing I need to mention is that I do imagine Olivia having a slight lisp. (Another one of her biggest inspirations is Larry the Cucumber from Veggie Tales, who has a lisp-- and if I were to direct someone voice-acting for Olivia, I'd probably tell them "like Larry the Cucumber but more girly," lol.)

Kevin Hyenadae - Dana Carvey (Garth Algar - Wayne's World): Garth has always been the voice I imagine for Kevin, again since Garth was a big inspiration for him. A very specific, awkward kind of voice. He sounds exactly like this tbh.

Dusty Carol - Tara Strong (Raven - Teen Titans): Another instance where I've always heard an OC this way (though I don't think Raven is much of an inspiration for Dusty's character beyond "both of these characters are goth-girls with purple in their colour-schemes."). A good balance of uninterested-goth who can still show positive emotions (there are plenty of examples of "goth-girl" voices that are way too monotone for my liking, at least in reference to my character.) Also don't get distracted by the fact that the examples I've used for both Olivia and Dusty are the same voice actress (Tara Strong), these are merely examples, rather than, "this is exactly the people I would cast if this was a cartoon with full voice-acting." It is kind of funny that they're the same actress here, though.

Audrey Hyenadae - Fryda Wolff (Penny Crygor - Warioware: Get It Together!): She should sound confident, maybe TOO confident. Very determined, too, and a little rough perhaps? But still young (she's 12c LOL.) I also considered Pepper Anne's voice for her, but I thought it sounded a little too old.

Parfait Brulee - Toni Barry (Snork Maiden - Moomin): Parfait's voice should be very light and delicate, kind of feminine and very nice. Not much else to say!

Laramie Lemon ("Lemon") - Melissa Altro (Pippi Longstocking - Pippi Longstocking (1998)): I'll be honest, I had a lot of trouble finding Lemon's voice claim. I knew she should sound real friendly, with an air of confidence. A real go-getter! But eventually I thought Pippi Longstocking's voice fit well enough. (Don't be surprised if one day I come back and change this one LMAO)

Tami Kachiyama - Michaela Dietz (Amethyst - Steven Universe): Kind of rough sounding, kind of rude but not too much. I think I've always imagined her sounding like Amethyst.

Ellie Gibson - Olivia Olson (Marceline - Adventure Time): She should sound really cool, and pretty chill. She knows what she's doing! Another one where I've always imagined her with this specific voice! I did consider Wendy's voice from Gravity Falls, but I found that it wasn't chill enough. (btw I could've included a snippet for singing, since Ellie is a musician who sings, but I decided I wanted more attention for a regular talking voice. You can look up any Marceline song from Adventure Time if you want an example.)

Conner Oakley - Rickie Sorensen (Arthur - The Sword In The Stone): Another one that was harder to figure out. But, I knew he should sound a little friendly and very kind, maybe a little awkward. There were a couple of voices I considered, but found they were a little too loud, or rough, etc. But I thought Arthur from Sword In The Stone was a pretty good fit! The only thing is that he should have a southern accent, too... But it's surprisingly difficult to find voices with American-Southern accents that aren't girls, rude-sounding, or fully-grown men lol. (I'll also tell you it was a bit hard to compile the voice lines for this one because Arthur has like three different voice actors in that movie lol, but I think I found lines from just the one va.)

Sally O'Dylan-Gaterson - Jo Firestone (Annie Fantasy - Teenage Euthanasia): Nerdy, nice, shy-sounding, with a bit of a lisp (though I don't have a preference on the severity of said lisp.) I also considered Gretchen from Disney's Recess, but she sounded too smart/sophisticated? Sally is nerdy, but not that much academically speaking.

Danny Squiggles - Arin Hanson (Max - Game Grumps' Sam & Max playthrough): Ok uhhhh this one's kind of funny. The idea for his voice was originally inspired by Jon Lovitz's Tommy Flanagan character from SNL (I know very niche lol), especially since he was partially inspired by that character. But, I thought that, while it would be EXTREMELY funny, I thought Danny should sound less like a fully-grown adult. Surprisingly, when I was casually watching Game Grumps' let's-play of Sam & Max, I found that the voice Arin did for Max let's play would fit pretty well. I also considered Meowth's voice, but he just sounds too much like a cat, yknow?

Margot Nodarobutte - Stephanie Anne Mills (Lindsay - Total Drama Island): Margot should sound like a girly-teenager. Kind of air-headed, too. But not too much? And not like a valley-girl. I thought Lindsay's voice fit those parameters well.

Chloe Lovebird - Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Crystal Flowers Snagrash - Psychonauts): Somehow it was hard to figure out Chloe's voice, but I got it eventually lol. She's gotta have a high voice, and she should sound pretty annoying. I mean, her annoyance-factor should rival Olivia's, lol. Very excitable. She's a parrot after all, lol.

Debbie Xander - Brittney Karbowski (Black Star - Soul Eater): Debbie is LOUD and ABRASIVE. She tends to yell. Very in-your-face, but not exactly mean. Also, I think she might sound a bit androgynous? Idk how many people would consider this particular voice androgynous-sounding, but eh.

Cammie Kharma - Lara Jill Miller (Libby Stein-Torres - The Ghost And Molly McGee): Cammie was another hard one, though I thought she should sound kind of nerdy and a bit upbeat. Also a slightly nasally voice would probably fit, what with her little horn-nose 'n all, lol. My first idea for the voice was actually Juniper Lee, but looking up the voice actress I found this role she did in The Ghost and Molly Mcgee, and thought the attitude of Libby's voice was a better fit.

Edward Tennyson - Todd Haberkorn (Death The Kid - Soul Eater): Ed's got that anime-type voice yknow. He takes everything too seriously and is pretty sophisticated. My first consideration for his voice was actually Haku from Spirited Away, but I thought that sounded TOO serious (though a very deadpan kind of voice could be pretty funny if executed right.) So I remembered Death the Kid from Soul Eater and thought that could work pretty well, though I might want him to sound a tiny-bit less goofy.

Liz Lawrence - Brigette Lundy-Paine (Billie Logan - Bill & Ted Face The Music): This was another hard voice to find, though I still had a good idea of what I wanted her to sound like. I wanted to find a Pauly Shore kind of voice, yknow? (I guess you'd call it a "stoner-type-of-voice" but that seems wrong to say about a 14-year-old LOL) Though most of those kinds of voices you find are boys. Some voices I found were just really chill, TOO chill and cool in fact. While thinking of Bill & Ted I remembered Face The Music and the fact that their kids in that movie were basically copies of them lol, and I thought Billie was a very good fit.

Vic Kilgore - Nathan Sharp (Damien LaVey - Monster Prom): Ok so my idea for Vic's voice was just, "like Nathan Explosion but a kid." Rough, and like... metal, I guess. But he's still an annoying kid. Thought Damien LaVey fit, although I think Vic wouldn't be so loud. (as a bonus, when Vic grows up he sounds more like Nathan Explosion lol)

Do you like Western magical girl shows like Winx Club and W.I.T.C.H.? Personally I like both of those shows and I wish the Western world made more magical girl franchises...but that's not gonna happen because of dudebros. But I really, really wish that magical girls were more popular in the Western world too...

I actually have not explored much of the world of Western magical girl shows! I really like the designs and transformation sequences from LoliRock (unfortunate name) though.

I totally agree, I would love to see more magical girls in the West! I will say I don't think it's entirely hopeless; Star vs the Forces of Evil (a show with strong magical girl aesthetics and even directly inspired by Sailor Moon) was a popular show on the Disney Channel recently. Steven Universe is also kinda vaguely magical girlish. Both series were created by women who grew up watching Sailor Moon and other magical girl anime. So who knows, maybe we'll see another Western animated show with a magical girl vibe soon!

I saw your fusion AU post and need details (if you’d oblige me). Because this is steven universe inspired, do they dance to fuse? Do they do a gay little dance on the battlefield? Asdfghjkl okay so some of this i have written down places already but some of it is only in my brain, and because i am not musically or visually creative some of it never occurred to me, so bear with me.

In this AU Force-wielders—most existing within the Jedi Order and therefore pretty much all assumed to be Jedi, colloquially known as gems or crystals depending on location—are like SU Gems in that they're beings made of light and the Force whose sentience is contained in kyber crystals from which they project their mobile physical forms. When projecting a physical form, their kyber cores are contained within them like SU gems, except when they move into their "weapon forms" aka lightsabers. Since I'm not inclined towards music or dance, and because Steven proves that you can fuse with a gem who's retreated into their gemstones to reform, dancing isn't required to fuse but I think it's probably a cultural and ceremonial things for Jedi proper. And fusion works with non-gems because something something through all things the Force flows.

You're right that fusion appearances vary case by case. Everyone's base appearance is the same as in canon, and while fusions can get very big depending on how many are fused and how stable the fusion is (less stable fusions being bigger) they usually stay under about 8 feet i think.

Fusion appearances are vague because, again, very much not an artist, but I do have a few specifics for some of them: Anyone who fuses with Ahsoka has togruta montrals, anyone who fuses with Maul has zabrak horns plus an extra mouth, anyone who fuses with Anakin has four arms, and anyone who fuses with Rex has four eyes.

Maulakin: keeps Anakin's hair so the horns end up looking almost like a half-hidden crown, and they also have Maul's markings but subtler almost like they're showing from underneath Anakin's regular skin.

Rexakin: most normal-human-looking, dark golden curly hair, one pair of brown eyes above a pair of yellow eyes, deep tan/light brown skin? Only one mouth but voice is slightly double-toned and they talk more like Anakin but move more like Rex.

Maulsoka: from discord dms, "I'm thinking Maulsoka probably looks the most "monstrous" of the bunch: zabrak horns and togruta horns, four eyes, four arms, white markings and black skin with a slick-looking red tint that looks like fresh blood on obsidian, and they're like 7 feet tall."

The list of most to least stable fusions, pasted below from the other post, ranges from about 6'5" to about 7'2" (which doesn't even surpass regular human heights let alone aliens but I think any bigger would just be a little too comical so no building-sized fusions like in the cartoon): Anasoka - Obikin - Obirex - Rexsoka - Rexakin - Maulakin - Obisoka - Maulsoka - Maulrex

As for the fusion lightsabers, I think there's quite a wide variation as well. A Maul fusion will nearly always use a lightstaff and an Ahsoka fusion will nearly always use Jar'Kai, but with the colors yeah probably gradients or maybe a thin core color/ greater outer color. Maulakin would use a lightstaff with a red core but mostly Anakin's blue. Maulsoka would probably also use a lightstaff but one end would be green and the other would be the yellow-green of her shoto, but maybe they would Ahsoka's Jar'Kai with a deep red saber and a much paler red shoto. Much fun to be had there, but as with the character designs, if I was an artist, I'd already have already tried drawing them instead of trying to talk my way through them lol.

Lastly, not one of your questions but because I don't think I've mentioned anywhere else: Maul and Anakin still use prostheses because the fights on Naboo and Geonosis were so traumatic that their projected physical forms were permanently changed, like Pink Pearl's cracked eye in SU.

frank! what are your top 10 favorite games? and what is your Final Message to gamers worldwide?

I was planning on making a longer post about this a while back but never got around to it -- you've inspired me. (EDIT: still haven't gotten around to making a post about this. Maybe next week? My schedule's been really weird lately.)

In any case, given the nature of Frank's blogging, it's not really possible to talk about these things well. I'm not good at articulating what I like or dislike about games -- I tend to either love them for almost inarticulable reasons or don't like them for vague/poorly-articulated reasons. If I say a game is "deep," that doesn't mean I can articulate its depths.

On that basis, I should probably just list ten games I like and give you some hints as to what the reasons are. Then you can try to figure it out. (I'll list them in approximate order of preference. They're mostly PC games.)

(EDIT: I can at least say that the Final Message is likely to involve Plato, Steven Universe, Homestuck, and the Mona Lisa.)

What these all have in common, besides "I like them," is that they have some kind of "twist." Not necessarily a surprise ending, though there's a lot of that in the list. It's more a sense of them each going off in a direction I wasn't expecting, either in a good or bad way.

Some examples:

Portal 2: I liked the first game, and liked the first couple of hours of the second, but the sudden shift into adventure game territory around halfway through was jarring. I was like "wait, I thought this game was an innovative action-puzzler -- why am I doing stuff like eating cupcakes, going into hidden compartments, etc. in an adventure gamey way?" But the game uses that stuff in service of its final twist, which is really interesting, so it's all good.

Planescape: Once I get to the torture dungeon, this game becomes more than just an old-school-D&D adaptation. The best part of it is that its twist, once you reach it, doesn't break the game; rather, it makes it more like a traditional D&D game. Everything you've done before, with all the complicated character creation and such, is part of the way you get to the twist -- you don't need to be a D&D fan to appreciate this twist, but it becomes really cool once you realize that D&D fans have been waiting years for the "your character truly dies and you create a new one" moment in a video game.

Thief: Basic premise: you're a guy who steals things in this huge castle. While the first couple of missions are done pretty conventionally, and the game does a good job of gradually building up its twist, the game's best moments are ones where the twist is used to full effect. In particular, there's a moment where a character who has been taken hostage gives you a key that lets you free them, but only if you promise not to kill them. You want to kill them -- they betrayed you, you're the hero, you have to get revenge. But if you do, you'll be stuck without the key, and won't be able to get that extra experience point. And the extra experience points matter a lot, because the twist in this game is that (1) you have to get a lot of experience to progress, and (2) you actually want to get a lot of experience, because it lets you replay each mission on new difficulty levels.
