#i'm from kentucky. voting got us andy beshear who saved thousands of lives during the pandemic. it got rid of a guy who gave his children #chicken pox rather than giving them the vaccine. he would have gotten so many kentuckians killed and i'm glad he wasn't in office. however #being in kentucky also shows that voting cannot be the only thing that is done bc our polling system is rigged from the start and that's how #we have people coming in from out of state to basically put the anti trans bill in office. voting is important to keep fascists out so that #people can breathe and organize more effectively. you're not as good at organizing if you're dying of covid or being deprived of hrt etc #idk i hate this idea that you're either a 'votescold' or you think nobody should vote and i feel like both are wrong? voting is only the #first step. you vote and then you go out and burn some strategically selected buildings down so there won't be a govt to elect in four years #anarchist #leftist #us politics

I ALSO CAUGHT WHOOPING COUGH BECAUSE MY CLASSMATE WASN'T VACCINATED. I had it when I was fifteen. Coughed for an entire summer break, my voice was never the same. Mom blamed my doctor as much as my classmates mom; said doctor thought it'd be okay to skip my booster since 'whooping cough is going extinct' (her reasoning) and my mom didn't realize how many kids at my charter school were there for religious reasons.

Wow, that doctor deserves to lose their license. And "religious/personal belief exemptions" should not exist. Period. I am so furious on your behalf, and glad you have (mostly) recovered.

ik antivaxxers are nowhere near as common but goddamn i hate them so much. specifically when they say 'guys they give you autism'. not only is that completely untrue, it also means 'id rather have a dead child than an autistic child' which is absolutely heartbreaking.

there are, of course, other types of antivaxxers, most notably those who believe it's the government trying to chip you, and while they still annoy me, they at least make me laugh a bit. it just really demonstrates how much people hate autism, which, unsurprisingly, upsets me as an autistic person.

im just glad i wasn't this age around the time the mmr antivaxxers were going round, or i'd be so much more upset.

I got yelled at for suggesting that someone get the vaccines.

"You know I hate needles! Last time I got COVID I was fine! If I see a needle I'll panic and pass out! I don't care if others can do it! Stop telling me to get the shot, I don't need shots!"

Says the person who hasn't gotten a vaccine in twenty years and who will bring up their abusive neglectful parents as a defense.

I don't know what to do anymore, so every time I chat with this person I'm going to casually mention how the virus does all kinds of amazing unpredictable things like crosses the blood brain barrier and awaken dormant illnesses.

Excuse me. Sorry. They liked the virus because it "silenced their brain" and made a metallic echo in their head that they could sing to. My bad. That doesn't sound like brain inflammation or damage at all.

I wonder what they're really afraid of.

Had my flu shot scheduled for today and was resigned to waiting a while for the new COVID shot to come out to my neck of the woods. Lo and behold! They got the new one in today! :D

I have two shots in my left arm and I'm sure I will be Extra Dead tomorrow, but it's obviously worth it.

genuinely fucking sobbing at the shit my moms had to go through within the medical system

#like 3 years ago she had a really bad reaction to the covid vaccine #it went away after a few days but then she got her booster and it came back and never left #and for three years shes gone to so many doctors who have literally zero answers for her #and the vaccine gave her all the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in 2 days #which isnt how ra works at all #and every time she thought she had the answer it was wrong #and now shes just given up #shes had so many mris and cat scans and blood tests and physical exams and been to so many fucking specialists #and she just gave up #shes accepted that she will never have the answer and is focusing on treating the symptoms and living her life with her new normal #and i want that so badly for myself #to just be able to give up and live with my chronic pain and migraines #but i also need an answer #bc i hate unknowns #i just #i fucking hate the medical system and i hate the shit my moms had to go through #and the amount of our savings shes had to use to try and fail to find an answer #shes doing okayish physically i think #but she messed up her body a lot when she was a teen (ballet) and never treated that and her immune system is shit #and now all of this and its just #i feel so bad for her and i hope i dont have to deal with any of htis in the future but #who knows #tw medical #grahhhh i fucking hate . being sad
