This year I'm entering the Voltron Poster Contest, so here's my submission!
Last year's poster had Defender of The Universe, Voltron Legendary Defender, and even Vehicle Voltron (recognition at last) together, so I thought I'd step it up and do all four animated voltron shows! Voltron: Defender of The Universe/Beast King GoLion, Voltron: The Third Dimension, Voltron Force, Voltron: Legendary Defender
Obviously, my calling card is drawing Pidge, so they just had to be group together. Darrell (standing, from Voltron Force) looks like their tired babysitter, but I swear he's their loving older brother <3 or parent since he's the only adult out of the four

Darrell is no longer allowed to drive after this one. Anyway! Coming across this on Pinterest, I had to draw it. But with Pidges. V3D Pidge up on the roof, VF driving, DotU in the back, and VLD holding on for dear life. And a perfect reference for @breadstickcat, Moo Moo on front. #savemoomoo
Anyway, this was so much fun to work on. I sadly don't know where to link for the original, but the signature says "scribbled-Death", but I don't know if that's here, insta, twitter, where. But. Here's what I used from pinterest.
Tumblr media
Ah, pure joy.
Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy this one! Until next time!

VF PIDGANCE FOR THE OTP QUESTIONS GO HAM BESTIE IDC WHICH ONES PICK ANY
YOU FOOL I ALMOST DID ALL OF THEM AND THERE'S NO TIME FOR THAT
3. who compliments the other in front of everyone? Definitely Lance complimenting Pidge nonstop, Pidge is usually super busy in the hangar, but that doesn't stop Lance from being gooey about him
4. Who's more likely to tell a pun and what's the other's reaction to it? No-brainer here, Pidge doesn't stop telling puns just because they're dating, it's his LIVELIHOOD. Lance does sometimes laugh, but mostly he just rolls his eyes at his genius's stupid jokes
7. Who introduces their partner to their family first? How does it go? Lance is an orphan so the only other option is Pidge introducing him to his adoptive family but not as his boyfriend. They met a while back and Pidge's family loved him especially because he was helping keep Pidge safe. Chip also met Lance way back and they get along, but when Lance and Pidge are official he's not very happy about it because he thinks Pidge can do way better (Pidge points out that chip's crush on hunk is similar just in a different font, which chip vehemently denies)

“Voltron was needed once more...”
Tumblr media
Today is Tuesday, September 10, 2019. I know it's been over 2 years since I last posted anything on Fuck Yeah Voltron, and I'll address that in a moment. But it's September 10, 2019, which is, to the day, the 35th anniversary of the debut of Voltron, Defender of the Universe on American TV. So I would not be worthy of any claim to my armchair expertise on Voltron if I did not mark the date.
I don't think I watched DotU on the day it debuted in 1984. In fact, it may well have been several weeks into its run when I first tuned in. But the recognition of it being exactly what I'd been looking for since Battle of the Planets ended its run was immediate. You whippersnappers today with your Pokémon and your streaming video wouldn't understand, but there was a time in our society when anime wasn't ubiquitous, so you either made do with what U.S. (or occasionally U.K.) animation provided or you could go kick rocks.
Suffice it to say, it was an obsession that has been a defining influence in my life. The reason why I founded Fuck Yeah Voltron was to finally write the love letter it was due, even when I was salty over where the franchise went, a problem I've not had in several years, thankfully. It was why I used the highest platform I was afforded, a TEDx Talk at a world-renowned cultural institute, to declare that this was for all intents and purposes what I regarded as God, so to speak. For many, that might have been mission accomplished, thou good and loyal servant.
Not me. Because I wasn't gilding the lily: I'm asking my God to deliver me from oppression again, as He did when I was a child. This time, I'm trying to channel Him, to make His will mine and vice versa, so I may accomplish great things in His name. And I'm not going to be quiet about it, either: something is coming in the next few weeks that is going to begin the next phase of this quest for His glory, which is already netting me notice, and which I am finally in the position to realize with enviable resources at my disposal.
This brings me to the explanation of why Fuck Yeah Voltron has languished since 2017. I could stretch the truth and say that Tumblr's musical chairs of ownership discouraged my participation, but that's only half the story. I've probably previously alluded to suffering from depression and other low-grade mental illness most of my life, and beginning in 2018 it came back with a vengeance, conveniently enough right after I had to end the most fruitful therapeutic relationship I ever had, just before I was forced by unscrupulous landlords to give up the home I had for six years. Thanks to this and the general shittiness of the world in general, I was in a downward spiral for much of the period since I last checked in here; I couldn't even bring myself to finish Legendary Defender, as I refused to experience it in anything less than the best possible conditions. Defendedly, that trend reversed several months ago, and I've not felt this optimistic in years.
That said, Fuck Yeah Voltron's function in my life and yours is going to change somewhat: after I discharge some old business, this blog is going to become more of an organ to promote these upcoming projects I'll be undertaking to testify to my faith in The Defender. You may be experiencing a twinge of panic at this transformation, which is natural, but please rest assured that I believe you will be overjoyed at what's to come. I would hold myself to nothing less to celebrate Voltron's first 35 years, and to kick off the second thereof in such a way that I suspect will be nothing less than… legendary.
From Days Of Long Ago, From Uncharted Regions Of The Galaxy, to this imperfect present in which we will join together to form into a more equitable, righteous future, I thank you all for being on this journey with me. May our lives eternally defended be.

80′s lance loved keith and allura so much and he was such a good boy even though he whined all the time and he was always looking out for his friends even little things like covering their backs while they ran away and telling everyone not to start the party without keith and pointing out that allura is upset and asking where keith/allura is whenever they’re MIA and always sticking close to pidge and he managed to channel his paranoia and probable-PTSD into basically being the team’s watchdog like he really does consider them his family and he wants to protect them the way he couldn’t protect his first family and--
he cared so much and i’m upset.

A Bit More About Lance
I’ve briefly discussed how DoTU implies Lance may have been from another planet before his home was attacked by Zarkon. Lance also alluded to this past trauma much earlier in the series in the episode “Pidge’s Home Planet.” An attack by Lotor’s forces devastates Pidge’s home world of Balto so completely that the planet become unstable and explodes.  Just as the planet is about to blow, the fleeing Voltron Force has this conversation:
Keith: We’ve gotta get away from here quickly! It’s all gonna blow!
Pidge: My world...
Lance: I know what it can mean to lose your home but to lose your whole world...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I suspect this incident is what eventually led Lance to open up about his loss to Pidge.
I’ve started re-watching V3D for the first time in years and, yes, the destruction of Lance’s village is referenced in the show’s third episode, “Building the Forces of Doom.” There’s a scene where Allura explains Lance grew up in a small village on a remote planet. No explanation if this was an Earth colony or if Lance really is an alien. We also don’t learn what happened to his family, but since a child Lance is the only person shown standing among the rumble during the flashback, I have to wonder if he was the only survivor. Maybe the show expands upon this later. Aghhh. More details as I make my way through the series.

My friends and I (1st graders at the time) all thought Lance and Allura were a couple because they were kissing every other episode. I had no inkling what so ever that anything was wrong with their relationship until the first time I saw Fleet of Doom. I was confused as to why Keith kept holding Allura’s hands. I am an only child so after watching the episode I went over to my friend’s and asked if she watched Voltron that day. Her reaction was Allura cheated on Lance which was mine as well
Now get this. DOTU aired again on Cartoon Network in 97 and they only aired the 52 episodes of season 1, Fleet of Doom was not aired during this run. So kids who watched Voltron in the late 90s had no evidence that Ka/llura was going to happen. Let’s be honest, there was nothing hinting at Ka/llura in Season 1 of Voltron. If you only watched Season 1, Allurance was the heavily implied relationship. Ka/llura happened because of season 2 and Fleet of Doom, but if you never saw it. Did it happen
Season 2 of Voltron was never aired on TV outside of its initial run in 85. Also, during Cartoon Network run of V/oltron there were reports that they were going to air a new series called something like V/oltron Extended Universe which was actually DOTU season 2. However, this news drop close to around the same time V/oltron 3d was announced so obviously V3d took precedence. I believe Extended Universe was never aired.
Kids who were introduced to V/oltron during its second and third run on television never watched season 2 and therefore had no basis to believe Ka/llura was going to happen and that why it was always joked about how Ka/llura came out of nowhere because to us 90s kids who watched V/oltron it did come out of nowhere. Thanks, just wanted to share this because it annoys me when people say Ka/llura was canon in DOTU because it was not canon to those of us who watched it in the 90s.
ferrlkswgd’ allura cheating on lance omfg
this is honestly...very enlightening. i had no idea that s2 had only been aired in 1985 and was skipped on all reruns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i definitely agree that all/urance had more hints/build-up than ka/llura in the first 52 episodes of DOTU, primarily due to the reused clip of allura kissing him (4 times!!), but also because of the dialogue changes in such scenes (allura choosing to kiss lance instead of keith, even when keith had been the hero of the day), lance’s trip to get the flower cure, being her only supporter for piloting the blue lion since the beginning, going apple-picking together with her and pidge, etc.
tbh, it seems clear to me that ka//llura was made canon in s2 because it was the expected romance--the Leader and the Girl. while it was cute, it wasn’t well-developed, and it clearly hadn’t been the planned endgame from the start (even if they knew they didn’t have the footage to canonize it).
it makes me wonder... LM is 38yo (i couldn’t find JDS’ age), so she would have only been 5 years old during the one and only time that s2 was aired on TV. it’s more likely that she watched it when she was older, and thus hadn’t seen s2 until she was an adult being tasked with rebooting the series.
which begs the question--did LM ship 80′s all/urance? hehe.

You know what wee little Darrell needs? MORE UNCLE PIDGES! So, I decided to try and draw Voltron: The Third Dimension's Pidge, based a bit on how @toasthoneyandstardust drew him, but giving him casual clothes. I still need to see V3D. Eventually. But. Anyway. Darrell deserves more Pidgey Uncles. Also, Shorty in that Robotech/Voltron crossover comic outfit he wore there, because it's adorable.
Anyway! I hope y'all enjoy this one! Until next time!

Voltron: The Series
Tumblr media
Last stop folks! One I'm sure you already know well This was my introduction into Voltron, fell in love with it, led me to its predecessors, then had a rocky relationship with it, and still do Thanks for joining me so far! I love Voltrons history because there's so much to be inspired from Dotu/VV - V3D - VF - VLD (here)
Word vomit under the cut <3
Oh boy 2016, nothing can go wrong here Frankly this is the better looking Voltron out of all of them, I'm glad to see what 2D and 3D can really do together since VF had a rocky time with that itself. Like I said in the Dotu/VV post, this show is a hard reboot, at most it takes the names and basic legend of the original show and just runs with it. Though it does take inspiration from the previous shows, again with Pidge being a genius, the lions being mystical, and this time I'm fairly sure the bayards were directly inspired from the voltcoms from VF That's the main reason why I don't find it fair to compare Voltron Legendary Defender (VLD) to the other Voltrons because it's not the same story at all, it's its own thing and is pretty well isolated. It has major changes to the story beats, like Lotor not automatically being a villain, the pilots aren't trained soldiers and instead cadets themselves, for a while the team aren't even friends, Allura's planet is renamed (to be fair it's back to the original anime name) and also destroyed, and Pidge is a girl now, which I don't mind but from what I've learned its a joke between older fans since many of them thought dotu Pidge was a girl at first due to his headband. The gist of VLD is vaguely similar to the rest of them, a team of five lands on Altea (Arus) and discovers Voltron which is then used to defend the universe. Like I mentioned though, the team isn't made up of soldiers, most of them are cadets with only one (1) seasoned soldier on the team who has been missing for years until the group found him. They have an Indiana Jones moment and find blue lion hidden away on Earth which abducts the entire team to Arus, a planet unrelated to Altea, where the castle of lions sits locked up. The rest of the show is them learning to work together and the best way to handle dangerous situations when more than just easily ignored lives are on the line. In total, it had 8 seasons in 2 years (yikes), the most of the shows (probably ran too long in retrospect), spawned 3 volumes of comics (15 in total), and brought the return of the toy line. This iteration brought in the most viewers because of the original fans who were still kicking, the animation, the story (in the beginning), and it was on Netflix which many people had at that point so it was easily accessible. It also spawned an incredibly large fandom which could be amazing at some points and down right radioactive at others. Either way though, it created avenues for merchandise, podcasts, fan interactions, and furthering the legacy of Voltron itself! As of this post, there's information slowly coming out about a live action movie for Voltron (probably not VLD related, that ship has sailed lads) which has many fans excited for what's to come

Been watching voltron the third dimension lately. hunk and lance are the only good characters don’t @ me.
based him more on his dotu design because unlike vf, i don’t remember anything in v3d that contradicts dotu as a sequel (apart from designs of course)

I watched that Alternate Relatity episode of V3D because of my cool anon and...
Tim Curry sounds like he’s both drunk and high off his ass (Tim Curry, I love ya...but what the fuck, man?!)
This episode seems like “Hole in the Sky” before VLD was made
The 3d in this series is terrible
Lotor looks like the Tin Man
In fact, everyone looks like the Tin Man
Lotor argues with himself, accusing the alternate version of being prettier (WTF)
Lotor’s girlfriend, who I still think might be Haggar, but I don’t even fucking know anymore, has the same personality as Mana from YGO
Pidge saying, “We are in some kinda parallel universe.” when he sees a flat out clone of himself (No shit, Sherlock!)
Alt!Hunk has Pidge’s personality (okay...)
Alt!Keith says, “Wanna see what we do for fun in this universe?” then tries to shoot Pidge and misses. (Well, we know this version is evil if he has the aim of a Stormtropper)
Alt!Allura staggers like she’s drunk
Alt!Allura acts like a little kid trying to be a “bad guy”
...yeah, I’m staying the fuck away from this after this ep.
Although, part of me wants to see a fan comic of VLD Lotor interacting with the alternate version of himself from that Empress Allura dimension.
