This year I'm entering the Voltron Poster Contest, so here's my submission!

Last year's poster had Defender of The Universe, Voltron Legendary Defender, and even Vehicle Voltron (recognition at last) together, so I thought I'd step it up and do all four animated voltron shows! Voltron: Defender of The Universe/Beast King GoLion, Voltron: The Third Dimension, Voltron Force, Voltron: Legendary Defender

Obviously, my calling card is drawing Pidge, so they just had to be group together. Darrell (standing, from Voltron Force) looks like their tired babysitter, but I swear he's their loving older brother <3 or parent since he's the only adult out of the four

So I was checking out like other voltron adaptations out there where I stumbled into voltron the third dimension (on a semi related wild note in this adaptation Pidge is voiced by Billy West and I can only hear Fry from futurama imagine if this had been the show that they referenced in season 8) but Keith's voice actor in third dimension is well known for his Transatlantic accent.

I know we love Texan Keith but I'm raising you TRANSATLANTIC KEITH?!?! Keith sounding like he's from 1950s radio

Voltron: The Series

Next up Voltron: The Third Dimension (V3D) Now I want to start off by saying, yes, the art is atrocious BUT I will be defending it because it's the first fully CGI animated show in the US! A very big accomplishment for the Voltron series Dotu/VV - V3D (here) - VF - VLD

Word vomit under the cut <3

Good ol' 1998 V3D is a pseudo-sequel to Dotu, taking place about 5 years after the defeat of planet doom and showing us the lives of the pilots post Voltron before they're called back into action for a returned Lotor, now half cybernetic! Like Dotu, it got two seasons, but at least this one had an overarching plot instead of the episodic style voltron had originally This show is actually the reason for many of the characterizations we have today! V3D gave Pidge his child genius status, Hunk his gluttonous meat head one, and even the mystical nature of the lions! Not to mention we get much more world building and even a map of the Denubian Galaxy. The basic plot is as follows: the original 5 pilots are living their lives post Voltron until Lotor escapes the prison he's been held in for 5 years. The Galaxy Alliance is now overseen by an AI driven robot named Amalgamous, as he's the amalgam of the thoughts of every leader in the 900 planets that make up the alliance, who for some reason seems to have it out for Voltron. While the team tries to do what's right, they work with a reformed King Zarkon who's been aiding the alliance ever since his defeat, though Lance doesn't seem too taken with that idea. Like I said early, the animation is really part of its time but the plot itself isn't even bad. I've been lucky to find places to watch it, and it's genuinely kept me entertained even though it still has its faults

Time for an episode of Voltron: The Third Dimension. I know, I skipped it last night. But I had things going on, so I didn't get the chance to watch an episode. But, here I am tonight! So! Let's go!

Okay. I just wanna take Pidge and put him over my knee for those insults. C’mon, Pidge! Be nice! Hunk is a cinnamon roll! Of course Haggar is spying on things. And she’s got a plan to work with it. Of course. Poor Hunk. C’mon, guys! Be nice to my cinnamon roll!

Oh no. OH NO! Four minutes in, they un-cinnamoned my cinnamon roll, didn’t they!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Admittedly, it is intriguing to see that the lion is invisible. Like, as the audience, we can tell by the distortion, but still. Intriguing. (Wow, I really do say that word a lot, don’t I?) Kieth yeeting himself in to Pidge to get him out of the way is kinda nice.

I’m gonna call it here at nine minutes in; Pidge apologizing will help save Hunk. C’mon, Pidge! Get over yourself and apologize to Hunk! “I got it, Keith. This is all my fault.” I mean, it’s Haggar’s, too, for using that against y’all, but yeah. It’s initially your fault.

Seeing that glorified calculator be taken away by the robeast, I just can’t feel too bad for him. Kinda wish they destroyed him. But… I guess not.

While I initially still want to put Pidge over my knee to give him what for for insulting Hunk so much, I do like him kinda teasing him on the field to make him give chase. It’s childishly adorable. Awwwwwww! Hunk’s love for his little buddy is stronger than Haggar’s magic! As it should! The power of friendship, baby!

Aw! Hunk has a massage chair in his lion! A good upgrade, if you ask me.

Look, I still wanna give Pidge what for, but I'm glad he made things better by actually apologizing to Hunk. You two are buddies! You should be getting along!

Welcome to Voltron: Space Mice Rankings!!! Brought to you by me having so many thoughts about them (which I never thought would happen)

1. Beast King Golion (!!!) - The best version of the mice <3 They have wonderful personalities and are a family who a) love to help Fala (basically Allura) and the rest of the paladins, and b) want to help with the fight against the Galra. You have a father who is insistant on training his family how to fight because they are in a war, and his (a bit cowardly/lazy) family who doesn't want to train. But!! They are determined to fight for Altea and they do such a great job. It is mostly Princess Fala and Shorty who talk to the mice, and they did so by learning their language. Also!!!! The mice get a super cute mini mech that they use to fight <3 And they get actual plotpoints because Honerva tries to infultrate the castle multiple times but she is scared of mice (which is why she has her cat), so it causes problems. None of the other shows use the mice in any plot relevant way. Also, this is the only version of the mice that I think about often <3

2. Voltron: Legendary Defender - I think Allura having mice telepathy is so cool and epic. It's a great addition to voltron, and I wish they had done literally anything fun with it throughout the show (but that was sadly never going to happen). I get excited whenever they show the mice doing silly things with Allura. The mice themselves dont have any distinct personalities, and are very flat, forgettable characters (I have actually forgotten about their existance multiple times). The designs themselves are interesting, but lack the familial element that were there in Golion (and I miss it dearly). I just wish there was a trait that connected them a bit more, like all of them having a connecting ear shape or marking.

3. Voltron: Defender of the Universe - My general thoughts about this show is that it's like if Golion was worse, and this theme continues with the mice. No one is able to speak directly to the mice and have conversations, which is very sad, and they got rid of us being able to tell what the mice were saying. Which means that their space mice episode was boring (in comparison) because you couldn't hear their conversations and silly dialogue!! The only thing they have going for them at that point is that they're cute (but also it's the same design in Golion-)

4. Voltron Force - Eh. They're robot mice. Idk what else to say, they're just kinda boring. I can appreciate wanting to switch it up and make them robots, but I want my space mice to have personality. The show breaks the fourth wall and ponders why they're called space mice when they are from Arus and were named by Arusians, but thats the only notable thing about them.

And there it is!!! If you want to see the mice in their bestest form ever then watch Beast King Golion ep 46, where the mice help fight the Galra in their mech (absolute icons!!!)
