Introducing Loki's different forms! ✨

So I recently picked up on an idea I really liked that I hadn't really liked before!

What if Utgard-Loki and Loki were the same and Loki had just tricked Thor with his illusions? After all wasn't he said to be very skilled in that.

So I don't think Loki and Logi are the same and I am aware Utgard-Loki also has the name Skyrmir. But what if it was all just a big prank Loki was in on with him and he was actually the real Utgard-Loki just trying to switch his role. Maybe he even owned the castle and gave it to Skyrmir? Not sure hah!

But absolutely just had to draw what I'd imagine him as! Of course including the mustache he is sometimes depicted with. Now I could finally use it!

I also included kitty-gandr! Jormi as a long cat is too adorable to ignore, okay!! 😭

(Plus, another point to why Utgard-Loki could be Loki. Why would jormungandr be there hmm? 👀)

Oh and to show how tall he is I added sigyn to compare hehe *Bullies her cutely*

Im not trying to be rude im just trying to understand better, but why worship a deity if youre not doing it bc of what they stand for? Like certain deities symbolizing strength or fertility or justice, whats the point of worshipping them if those traits dont play a role in your life?

Nah, it's not rude at all. I'm always happy to disambiguate.

It's not that their traits are insignificant; it's that deities aren't the personifications of traits.

They're individuals...who have traits.

I think there's a big hesitancy in neopaganism to to view deities as beings, in favor of viewing them as anthropomorphic versions of non-beings—personifications of ideas and processes, rather that people with talents in specific areas.

And perhaps "an anthropomorphic interpretation of a non-being" is what a deity is in some religions. But that's not so much the case in Norse Heathenry. We know this because we actually have a myth that involves natural processes being given human forms, and they weren't viewed as deities for it. On the contrary, their forms were revealed to be illusions created by the Jötun magician Utgard-Loki to trick Thor and his companions.

So why are the Norse deities worshiped, if not for what it is they symbolize? Well...it's because they're family and loved ones. Many were once real people, deified after death when their community continued to engage with them and tell stories about them to others. People worship the deities because to this day they continue to interact with our lives and take care of us.

Personally, that's the only reason I have for worshiping a deity; because I appreciate who they are and what it is they do within the context of my life. It's a way of saying "thank you and I love you."

i reread hammer of thor and i decided to list out some stuff i feel has been overlooked by the fandom

samirah and magnus's dynamic is not given enough love. they are figuratively SIBLINGS and that level of closeness is not recognized by the fandom enough

(also not really about the book but. the UK cover of 'hammer of thor' depicts samirah with half of her hair falling out of her hijab. which. who tf designed these covers?? like somebody needs to give them a good throttling)
