fun connection on this archived kickstarter update from the 2011 production/s of "the bus" as found by @broadway-heere-i-come ft. many pics from their trip to wichita, kansas for several performances there, including this one

lo, behold

#giving ''every moment'' vs ''where a moment'' but i'm sure either is plausible just based on listening. anyone got a cd insert booklet#tragic that further pages of the kickstarter aren't waybacked up. may not have let you access them if not a backer?#lot of great stuff on page 1 though fr#will roland#hey beautiful#(the The Bus tag lol)#live it up!:#deh#maybe could've used a fourth take actually lmao. let's all watch the 6+ min ''interview'' w/those two seeing spamalot together#love the bit right at the start where someone asks what mike faist's hair smells like & will immediately launches into explaining what it#feels like & michael park is like oh yup. we've all been there. probably the more fun answer anyways#speaking of him b/c it's such a Journey of a video i never remember precisely when mike faist barrels through the door#get out!!! what were you thinking....#used to keep forgetting it happened at all which was a delight. happens during the karaoke / singing in shower answer!#oh i also had the thought like. the Probably Non Phone Photography of 2011 here#noticed that like ''Portrait of someone near the camera with motion blur towards its focus point'' & also noted it as feeling like#a Stock Photo kind of phenomenon now decidedly Out Of Date. then thinking like well that might not be much of a coincidence lol#as in: it would be a spontaneous Photo Effect ppl were more accustomed to At The Time. maybe!#(just realizing fantastic grammatical ambiguity. i meant the ''including this one'' in the opening there to be going off of ''many pics#[...] including this one'' but that it can be interpreted as ''several performances there [...] including this one [will karaoke.jpg]''#like wow works great either way actually lmao. no notes)#p.s. i dunno why some of the lyrics were bolded. did not enter any of the terms into the search. I recently read "The Last Guardian" and I am absolutely delighted by it, I feel like when it comes to Khadgar content this is a huge "must read" because the whole book is just so good-natured despite the fact that this sets off a never-ending series of deeply traumatizing events for Khadgar.
Here's some things that canonically happen in this book and that I just found so endearing or fun:
The Kirin Tor literally sends Khadgar off to Medivh because Khadgar kept wandering the halls of the Violet Citadel at night and being so nosy that he caught his professors on drinking binges, sleeping with students or trying to summon demons. Medivh knows that they sent him here hoping he dies because he knows too much.
Khadgar rambling and babbling and being delightfully awkward
Tumblr media
Khadgar forgets how to talk when he meets Medivh and makes some strange sound to which Medivh asks Moroes if "the lad is ill."
Medivh having scheduled times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and keeping to them. Also he and Khadgar are just eating porridge with sausages for breakfast every day when he is around.
Khadgar having his inscription set with him that he carries all neatly packaged and tidied up, even though he is this scruffy dirty looking teen boy.
Lothar and Medivh both have this dad relationship with Khadgar, but Lothar is like the cool supportive dad who would take you to a soccer game and would support you at pride with the wrong flag.
During this particularly deep conversation about time and space, Medivh encourages Khadgar to have a bit of wine, Khadgar gets a little tipsy and then Medivh encourages Khadgar to live a little and try to levitate e mug with his magic even though he has been drinking - naturally it ends with Khadgar cleaning the floor afterwards.
When Medivh falls into a coma after their demon encounter at Stormwind, he entrusts Khadgar with handling his mail and Khadgar spends most of his free time sitting next to Medivh's bed and reading him the mail - especially the funny parts.
In the same situation when Medivh wakes up, he sees the startled Khadgar on the floor (after a vision of Sargeras) and softly asks him why he didn't ask Moroes to set up a bed for him there if he wanted to stay in his room.
Khadgar goes very quickly from "Guardian! There is an ORC in the tower!!!" to "Garona is my friend :)"
Khadgar and Garona spend a lot of time rebuilding the library after Garon thrashes the place in order to save Khadgar's life. They make a makeshift woodwork station in the stables outside Karazhan.
Khadgar has like a lowkey puppy crush on Garona and this is actually innocently cute.
Khadgar and Garona on the road when they flee from Medivh is such a nice sequence because they protect each other (from the orcs and humans who would hurt the other one) and also about the fact that they feel betrayed by Medivh. Also Khadgar just wants her to like and trust him 😭
Tumblr media
Lothar gets Garona to wear the Stormwind armor by telling her that it matches her eyes and that Khadgar will wear it - and then Khadgar also tells her it matches her eyes and she looks good in it. Lothar using elementary school level tactics to get them to wear the Stormwind armor is so funny.
I just feel like this book was really fun and the pacing of the story was great between building up Medivh as an antagonist who genuinely cared for Khadgar, solving the murder-mystery around him and had the right amount of just daily domestic stuff between Khadgar and him and Khadgar and Garona. Not to mention the excellent parallels between Medivh losing his youth and waking up as an old man and Khadgar losing his youth while also going through what is a very sad coming of age story for him.

treating myself to some old OP episodes to alleviate the horrors and i can’t resist the urge to ramble about bell-mère’s death a little bit.
so, i will start here, with this iconic moment:
Tumblr media
manga readers may notice something right off the bat. “hey, arlong’s not aiming for her head!” yes, in the anime, seems they switched his aim for the heart. i actually prefer this. first of all, that flintlock is huge compared to her, so head or heart, it’s gonna kill her. not a fatality issue. i’m just a huge sap, and i think there’s something more symbolic about him shooting her in the heart for defending her love - her kids. (even tho all of this could have been avoided if she just lied, and then she’d actually be able to keep loving and supporting her kids, but, uh, i digress)
this moment really captured me when i was first watching, because for the first time, one piece truly felt dark. this wasn’t just an upsetting backstory. it had some element of gore here, which i’m not sure would be as effective if he went through with a headshot. they might have censored it a bit more.
more (slightly gruesome) photos and analysis beneath the cut 👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at what they got away with here!! this was early one piece mind you, so i feel like things were generally a little cushier? (or maybe that’s just my nostalgia talking XD) but the harsh black and white contrast, the utter silence during this scene, the speed in which this happened! (it was a pain to pause and scrub and get good screenshots, let me add). i will say i’m not up to date with current OP shenanigans, but to me, this seems like one of the most abrupt and brutal deaths in the series. (and this doesn’t even put into account the horrid beating she got beforehand)
there are some nice parallels here between her death and rosinante’s, (most notably her last words being “i love you” to nami and nojiko, and a flintlock as the weapon of choice), but even then, i think this is a bit nastier. seven little bullets in a 10ft tall man is painful, yes, but it wasn’t gruesome, and he managed to cling onto life for a little while afterwards. this was just. bang. done. heart – gone. leaves the viewer totally reeling.
in a way i feel like it’s almost an honor for bell-mère to get such a violent death? okay hear me out i know that sounds crazy. she sacrificed herself for her kids and went out kicking and screaming (or standing solemnly, towards the end). she brought forth such a refreshing take on women in one piece. i mean, let’s not forget this scene:
Tumblr media
she was gonna blow his brains out!! zero hesitation!! how many characters in this series, let alone women, would go through something like this? i get that different characters have different honor codes and such, but it was sooo incredibly invigorating to see a woman get her hands dirty like this.
so by that logic, it’s kind of weirdly nice to see her not be treated like a little doll? this is highly speculative though, because i’ve noticed there’s this rather annoying trend where women are used as a moral compass for villains. “oh, look how deplorable arlong is, he did that to a young pretty woman!” we see the same thing with doflamingo, for instance, in his “fight” with viola. “oh how heinous, he threw her to the ground! how disrespectful! she’s just an innocent princess!” yeah, ugh. getting off tangent here
this whole scene set a standard for me, (and hopefully other viewers), who kind of saw the series as a fun lighthearted pirate adventure. yes, there was tragedy and sadness before this arc, before this backstory, but something about this moment in particular made my perception tremble. the bar was raised! a compelling character and backstory can have a truly harrowing ending!! a delightful revelation for me, for whatever reason XD
feel free to chime in if ya got any additional comments or takes on the matter. i don’t think bell-mère gets enough love. if you do wanna chime in, just um. be nice. i’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, okay. and multiple interpretations of these scenes are valid! i’d love to hear ‘em! <3

If it is to burn, let me burn for you
Young Primo Emeritus & gn!reader
Preface: Young Primo Emeritus had a lover with whom he frequently exchanged letters. Some of them, worthy of making someone burn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings: very suggestive content, mentions of dominance/submission dynamic, dominant adressee (reader)
[SECRETS FROM THE CLERGY]
When the first son of Emeritus was young, he had a lover. A Sibling of Sin from far away whom he met during the years he went abroad to study and, no matter how hard he tried, they parted when he returned to his duties at Emeritus Abbey.
His Eminence, at the time a Cardinal, to compensate the distance, wrote them letters. Many, many letters.
I present you one, one in which the longing was also carnal.
SUGESTIVE CONTENT BELOW
----
Mio prezioso raggio di sole,
I cannot forget you. Everything reminds me of you: your name that sounds so beautiful on my lips, your silhouette made to be next to mine, your face perfect for holding my hands.
That silhouette and that face that light up my day when it is late or grey, just like a ray of sunlight.
But the sun also burns. It burns if we leave ourselves vulnerable to burning.
I let myself be burned by you. I feel burn by you. So intensely that sometimes I think I go into a real combustion.
It happens mostly at night, when I am sometimes in the quiet of my office, sometimes in the comfort of my bed. You never leave my mind, beautiful. Never.
Your body against mine to become one as I mark your skin with bites and kisses, before making us go haywire amidst a whole sensual entwining of our lips so well acquainted with what to do.
The skin burns! I feel myself burning right now, imagining you walking through that solid wood door, finally!!!, and come running to me.
It's okay for everything on my desk to fall off. I want you comfortable, sitting in the exact spot where this sheet I'm writing to you rests. Your habit just covering your chest.
How magnificent, you. So lost in caresses and kisses and hickeys and squeezes and strokes and silent promises of what comes next. How phrenetic, me. So morbidly dedicated to giving you all this and telling you how madly I love you and undressing me before you so you know I really mean it.
Can you feel it? Keeping your eyes on me as my hands ascend from your trunks ever so slowly and shallowly to the top of your thighs. Don't look away, and a squeeze, a circular motion of my thumbs are felt on either side of your waist. I move down again, this time stopping at your knees and pulling them up so that I, as I lower myself, nibble at your inner thigh until my teeth are marked.
The touch of your hands on my shoulders is so vivid in my mind that I can almost feel it now. Your nails burrowing into my skin as I slowly and thoughtfully approach my goal and touch you so subtly with the tip of my finger.
So graced, pure beauty! So pretty to me as you begin to sing the melody I know so well and dream of so longing for every day.
However, I know that things will soon change. The sofa in my office seems like the perfect place. I imagine myself there so often, lying at your mercy. Your weight on me, pressing me down so firmly that we only don't become one because you still the only one who's completely naked.
Your hands hold mine above your head and dance on me gracefully. You make me a little madder for you, burning with a desire that consumes me totally and I can do nothing but be thirsty for more.
Be tender with me, please. Stop this game of yours and let me be part of the dance.
Yes, yes! Wrap me in your moist, velvety grip. Jump on top of me, undulate your hips as you like and feel good. Use your hands to hold me or else wrap them around my blond strands. Say out loud with all the words that you're in charge from up there, so authoritative and dominant.
Ah! Delight yourself. Yes! Your pleasure is mine. Every squeeze you give around me is pure luxury, the sounds of our bodies meeting each other in whatever rhythm you prefer. Jump, my darling, jump, leap, dance.
Breathless breaths. So desperate for oxygen, but also for release.
I know it's close when your head falls back and I have full sight of your neck. This one that calls to me, and I launch myself at it to shower it with kisses.
Don't push me away, please. Not this time. Let me fight to keep my hands to myself even when the tempo stops being so sure and steady, when you lose your rhythm and follow as you will and I am helpless, blinded by the softness of your skin to the touch of my lips and the sound of your voice.
Do you feel me? Begging for release? And yet I remain steady, lips in blood so that you are the first to tremble and only then me.
Fuck. Shiver and shudder, sunshine. No fear, let them all hear. Let them know how good I am to you and they will know how good you are to me when I fill you with my seed without holding back my voice.
You are so good to me. And I miss you so much, miss touching you in every way.
Share these longings with me! Perhaps the Old One will hear us and bring us together to worship and honor him.
In the meantime, take care of yourself and feed yourself. I hope seeing you soon!
Yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever yours,
Primo Emeritus
– Letter from His Eminence Papa Emeritus II on his early twenties, to a unknown Sibling of Sin (adapted)
° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° °
Piece inspired to come out of the drawer due to this art, by @/Nydelide on Twitter. Please go check it out, you won't regret to see this Young Primo portrait!
It is only known that they had met when Primo traveled on erasmus and fell madly in love. Rumors ran through the halls that, years later, this Sibling would be his Prime Mover.
That never happened, though. The flow of letters has decreased over time, for unknown reasons. His Eminence Papa Emeritus I has never talked about the lover since then.
The answers to the letters were also not found. I suspect they were burned (and used as fertilizer....) either before or after the death of his Eminence – at which time various belongings of theirs were destroyed. Be that as it may, the Sibling of Sin has never been identified, so little is known about their relationship.
I shared this letter on my Twitter circle first. I also shared a letter written by His Eminence Papa Emeritus III to his Omega Ghoul & the peculiar use that His Eminence Pope Emeritus IV gives to the chapel's stairs (this one requires a bottle of water, tissues and a fan) over there! If you want to join us, my user is @/gd_nuntia. You must be over 18 years old to access the [LECHERY FROM THE CLERGY] archives and request for others, if you are particularly curious about something ; )
Well, if you know about the Sibling or the letters, please tell me!
Go in sin and
May the Lord Below guide you into the night,
Nuntia

Some ideas for if I were to rewrite helluva boss. (ugh another 1k word post. I either don't say shit or vomit words) Please ignore grammar mistakes, wrote this on my last hour of work at 10pm.
Was thinking about I would change HB if given the chance and these are my thoughts.
- Main location would be in on earth not hell. Having IMP navigating around human society would be more interesting as they tried to keep themselves hidden.
- This way they could have their harsh personalities and have extras still react strongly. (The amount of pearl clutching in the show makes no since given that 'its hell and demons are supposed to be good people.) It would likely take place in a town that's close to a larger city. Or just somewhere rural.
- Stolas, Moxxie and Luna would be human. Gonna explain working backwards.
- Luna would have the same backstory but she gets adopted earlier in life. She's raised by a demon, probably homeschooled, and picks up on Blitzo's mannerisms. Now she's getting older and wants to mingle with people now. The problem, humans aren't accepting of that behavior and she's an outcast. Most people in town openly avoud her. Her struggle with Blitzo is that despite him rasing her, she wonders what would have happened if he left her on the streets and maybe adopted and raised by other humans.
- Blitzo having her working in IMP to show her that people aren't actually all that great. But Luna has more of a problem faking good behavior. (Her relationship with Moxxie is better because he is teachering her about people. Luna will go to Moxxie for questions rather than Blitzo. He and Blitzo have a strain relationship due to this. Doesn't help that Bliz will make things up when he doesn't know, which will screw Luna over socially)
- Moxxie keeps his backstory but instead of the mob, he's born to a cultist family. Not like in S1E1, but a more large scale. His mother got in young and fell for one of the high ranking members. Overtime it got too much and when Moxxie is really young, his mother tries to leave. She is killed for this and Moxxie lives in fear. It is framed like an accident.
- The Millie shows up after being summon by Moxxie during a rite of passage ritual or something similar. Since he summoned her, he's the one that get to request something of her. He asks that everyone forgets he exists/thinks he died with his mother.
‐ The request is granted. But Moxxie has nothing to his name. The streets in the city are too harsh, so he stays in town, scared and keeping his head down. Maybe takes up odd jobs to stay afloat. Crimson comes in later, fining revords of Moxxie, and starts investing. Maybe he summons Striker.
- Stolas is the next leader of the cult. Handed sown from his father. Chosen blood or something. He summons a demon bride, Stella, to bring in the anti-christ. He goes along because he feels like he has no choice. But like Moxxie, he's wanted out for a long time.
- He happens upon Blitzo and is delighted to find that at least this demon is pleasant. Their relationship starts as just a break from things. Blitzo is still a low level demon. He shouldn't even be on earth. How he got there is a mystery, but he can't go back to hell. If anyone find out, then he's dead.
- Blitzo still has to eat (or maybe just feed Luna) and Stolas can't hide him, so he gives Blitze the magic book. Not to get from hell and back, but to trasport himself around earth. His clients contact him online or through the phone. Moxxie joins in cuz he's getting desperate. Millie's been working within the cult since being summon by Moxxie. She enjoys his companyso they stick together and grow close. She gives him a sense of safety, and he's teaching her about humans. She becomes softer overtime because of it.
- Moxxie would be more sensitive to killing, so hewouldbe the one to use the book, he's more trained in magic anyway, and would stay in the office to transport everyone.
- Luna uses traveling around to get practice interacting with people. She doesn't have to see them everyday, so failing has less of a sting and lingering embarrassment.
- Octavia is half demon, half human. She's a teen whose confused on what to do with herself. Stella is ruling a section of hell, she doesn't have the time to be a parent or the interest. For the first time Stolas feels like he can connect with someone of his family without all the expectation. He teaches her about the cult, but make time for nicer things. He teaches her about life.
- Octavia is conflicted about her role in the cult. She's part demon but isn't taught their cruelty. She feels isolated and sufficated. Then by one chance outing she meets Luna. Some who understand. Someone to open up too.
- I'm not sure how Stolas and Blitzo's romantic relationship would develop, but I like the idea of them being less hesitant about it when their daughters become friends.
- Blitzo is hiding on earth because of a huge messup. Maybe something that injuries Fizz, gets his mother killed, and gets Barb to hate him. But unlike the show he is fully at fault. There's no way to apologize or take it back.
( Maybe he tries to take a stash of souls/their energy to make himself more powerful cuz he's tired of being at the bottom. But it goes wrong and they get released. They end up in heaven, tipping the scales and setting hell back centuries. Satan himself wants to throw Blitzo into the void.
It could be why they cult is so important. The more it grows, the more souls willfully signing themselves over to hell. If it goes wrong Stella has a lit to lose. If she finds him, and Stolas, things will get ugly. But they can't leave the town. Maybe something about concentrated demonic energy that lower level demons need to survive. The cult and its mass of demons us enough for IMP to be around but it doesn't stretch that far.)
- Ozzie (and Fizz), Beelzebub, Mammon and the other Sins appear when IMP need to do work in other locations, near hotbeds of other cults or demonic activities.

When you’re feeling better, can we please have some fun fish and reptile facts? 🦎
omg 🥹 well i can provide some now even tho i am feeling crappy, because talking about critters always makes me happy
this was my old 10gal set-up for my betta rubra! i had a bonded pair who produced several spawns for me in 2021, and they were a delight to keep. now i just have the male of the pair, as the female died very suddenly (this can happen with wild caught fish unfortunately), and several of the F1 adults from their last spawn. my main pair lived in this set-up on their own, and as their fry grew up, i would separate them out into a 20gal high grow-out tank before taking them down to my local fish store to find their forever homes.
Tumblr media
that's the wild-caught male on the right--gomez--holding eggs and fry after spawning with his mate, morticia. (': the little one on the left is one of the fry at about a week old, iirc. a really cool thing about betta rubra as a complex is that they do very well when kept in small groups/colonies, and can become extremely timid and withdrawn and depressed if you keep them in isolation. in my experience, paternal mouthbrooding anabantoid species generally have lower levels of aggression, don't predate their own young, and are much more inquisitive and interested in interacting with humans than bubble-nesters. (this is just in general!! betta macrostoma are paternal mouthbrooders who will nevertheless do fish murder to any other fish that they can reach lmfao)
Tumblr media
there's gomez on the bottom again (what a handsome fellow) and some of his F1 offspring as adults!
some other cool betta rubra facts:
like all members of the anabantoid suborder, betta rubra have a labyrinth organ that they use to breathe oxygen directly from the surface of the water. they can in fact 'drown' if not given access to air! this is because they evolved in low pH waters (i keep mine in water with a pH of 6-6.5, but when spawning i lower the pH down to 5.5-6), and low pH water also has extremely low concentrations of oxygen. this is also true of your typical domestic betta splendens fish you might choose to rescue from its little cup prison cell at petsmart, though they tolerate a far wider pH range than betta rubra do.
betta rubra are extremely dedicated parents, particularly the fathers. when holding eggs and fry, it takes the fry upwards of 20+ days to become free swimming, at which point the male spits them out to fend for themselves. but during this time period, the male parent does not eat anything! because he can't! because he's mouth is full with babie. :c that said, newer fathers sometimes, um, forget that their mouths are full, and often swallow their fry a few times before they get the hang of things. gomez was always a very good father tho and never swallowed any of his babies. what a good dad.
they can live up to 7 years in captivity, and are very hardy fish imo.
captive bred populations of wild betta species are super important for the long term conservation of the species given all of the deforestation and pollution that is wreaking havoc on their natural habitat in sumatra.
anyway, there you go, some fish facts 🐟 i'll try to come up with some reptile facts later.

ii. the meet cute pt.2
Tumblr media
main m.list - series m.list
previous chapter - next chapter
summary: a new dangerous killer roams gotham's streets, and the red hood has to take care of it. the problem is it might be tricker than it seems.
pairing: jason todd x reader
warnings: a lil blood, a lil stabbing
word count: 1545
Tumblr media
Patrol wasn't always all action and battle, all blood and sweat, all good and evil. Sometimes it was just the Red Hood spending long hours, bored out of his mind, jumping from one roof to another, occasionally stopping when he found something to entertain himself with.
There were nights in which Gotham didn't even look or sound like Gotham: it seemed like a normal city, calm and quiet, almost pleasurable. Jason knew not to trust those nights: Gotham couldn't change, and he would have much preferred an action-packed night to an apparently still one.
But now, even during those too quiet patrols, he had something to think about: the new gorgeous stranger that had the same ice-buying habits as him, although he doubted she used it for his same reasons. They had gone out, dated for a few days now. Jason wasn't sure he could use the word 'dated', but it looked like it: the two of them walking hand in hand, sharing words, sharing looks.
He usually had plans, dates perfectly organized and he didn't even know why he put so much effort into them. He didn't know how it happened but every time, planning didn't matter: he found himself in the most remote parts of Gotham, just because he had let himself get lost in her voice.
He reckoned that maybe she really was a villain, because how else could he explain the unusual lack of cerebral activity that she caused in him with a smile and a few dulcet words? He couldn't.
"Next time we should just go to the theater," he had proposed on their most recent date. He had looked into her eyes for so long that once he had looked away, the rest of the world seemed duller.
"Why's that? So you can pull the old yawn-and-arm-over-the-shoulder technique on me while we watch a movie?" She said, stretching her arms and sneakily pulling the move she had just talked about.
He laughed, so genuinely it didn't even sound like him, and swatted her arm away only to put his own around her shoulders. "So that i can't hear your voice, i seem to get lost in it."
He had said with a smoldering look, one that had her roll her eyes and smack his side, but he was truthful; she didn't need to know that.
"Oh but i'd keep on talking to you, whispering sweet nothings in your ear," she said, and then they stopped waking. She inched closer, standing on her tippy toes to breathe against the shell of his ear. "I would spoil you the entire movie."
"How romantic of you," he said, not daring break the unusual spell she had created. He remained close to her, now his turn to utter in her ear. He even managed to remain unfazed as he took in the delightful smell of her hair; he couldn't however refrain himself from sneaking a hand behind her neck, caressing the spot. "If it wasn't for the insufferable character, i could almost swear you come right out of an Austen's novel."
"But that's exactly what makes me look like i'm out of an Austen's novel," she said, that challenging tone always present in her voice and it was so intoxicating. "She wrote Elizabeth Bennet with me in mind!"
"And here i thought you had been the inspiration for Mrs Bennet," he retorted and she smacked him again as the sound of their shared laughter filled the air.
Replaying that episode, her voice, her touch, her smell in his mind was useful to keep him busy on tiresome patrols, but it was anticipation that really entertained him: waiting for the moment he'd see her again. And then there was fear: fear of what that meant, of getting so close to her.
But a certain change in the air made him completely forget of that, his ears on the alert, his eyes scanning for the reason of the inconvenience.
He saw a figure, dashing in the night, gliding effortlessly on the rooftops, without making a sound. And he wouldn't have heard it, hadn't it been for his fine hearing. He decided to follow because whenever someone ran on the roofs like that, they didn't usually have good intentions. Unless that someone was him, that is.
He started following the figure, slowly at first, but it was quick and he couldn't lose it, so he quickened his pace too.
And then, he didn't see it anymore. It just vanished, the night returning to its previous calm. Jason looked around himself, careful to be as silent as a fly, walking on the roof.
A blade cut through the hair, finding its place just inches from his throat. "Why are you following me?"
The figure he had been chasing for the past minutes was now wielding a longsword, its edge threateningly sharp and close.
"Woah now," he said, stepping backward. The figure stepped closer, redirecting the sword so that the tip stood just below Jason's nose. "I had a feeling you were up to no good and given the length of that thing, i suppose i'm right."
The figure, whose face was cleverly hidden by a hood, was clad in dark leather and kevlar, thousands of other little knives attached to her suit. "Says the man with a red mask and a pair of guns."
"Touché," said Jason, darting forward to disarm his opponent, but his opponent was good.
In a few moves, they were stalling again: the longsword in front of the woman, defending her, and Jason with his guns out now, waiting.
"Has no one ever told you not to bring knives to a gunfight?" He asked, cockily twirling the guns in his gloved hands as he circled the figure in front of him.
"Unoriginal," she scoffed. "And everything changes if you are very very good with a sword. Which i happen to be."
In a moment, they were fighting again, a strange dance made of glinting metals and hard punches. The girl managed a score: not much, thought Jason, a small cut, just above the red symbol on his chest. The blade had managed to cut through his jacket, but not through his armor.
"You know? I like this jacket," he said, raising his guns and firing. She dodged both bullets, and they were stalling again, circling each other like rabid animals.
"Shouldn't have worn it to a gunfight," she mocked, and despite everything he had to grin at that. The girl in front of him didn't, stone cold.
"What are you up to with that?" He said, motioning with his gun to the sword.
She twirled it in her hands. "Would you believe me if i told you it's just a prop?"
"I would have if you hadn't tried slicing me up with it," he countered, incredibly amused by the whole scene. "I'm a very trusting guy."
"I'm here to kill a man," she said, unrelenting. "But i don't mind killing two tonight."
"Now i really can't let you do that, you know?" He said, lunging to attack again. He was strong and he was fast, but she was faster. She dodged again. "I can't let all pretty sword-wielders kill whoever they want just cause they're pretty, it ruins my reputation."
She lunged this time, but she didn't score. She moved so quickly and so skillfully: she wasn't just another one of Gotham's thugs, she was dangerous. "Well, now it would ruin mine if i let you live, Red Bat."
"It's Red Hood," he said, pouncing again towards her, firing another round of shots, missing her. "And i'm afraid you'll have to come with me now."
"Never on the first date, Red Bat," she said, dodging every attack of his.
"It's Hood," he repeated. "And it wasn't a question; it was an order, darling."
"You have no hood," she countered, talking between each strike she took, each one of them in the air as she missed all of them. "It's Red Mask at best."
"It's symbolic, and i can't wait to tell you all about it once you're inside one of the gcpd's cells."
She went for another strike, and this time she left a mark, right on his symbolic helmet. "I'll have you know it's quite expensive."
"I would love to hear more about how expensive that was, but i'm afraid i'll have to go now," she said, retrieving her sword. "It was a pleasure, Red Mask."
"Not so fast," he said, but she was already darting away. He ran after her, as quickly as he could, and managed to grasp her arm, momentarily stopping her. She freed herself quickly but it was enough time for him to take one of the knives from her suit, shoving it into her shoulder. He was aiming for a more vital spot but he had hit her and that was enough.
She removed the knife, painfully extracting it from the flesh, and as the blood quickly soaked her clothes, she even more quickly shoved it back into his chest, right below his own shoulder.
He stumbled back, just slightly, and that was enough for her to disappear in a cloud of smoke.
Jason didn't like uneventful nights, but he liked nights with unresolved events even less.

Do you have any good hrpf fic recs? I ran through one pairing already and would like more lmao
Hi Anon! Sorry this took so long, I hope you didn't forget about it, or think I forgot about you :) I have been mulling this over, because wow. what a question.
HRPF is a wide, wide expanse, and it's also kind of like an insular neighborhood.
That being said, what I'd recommend really really depends on what you're looking for. I’m assuming you’re over 18, however, if you’re not I’ve put ratings on these fics. I’m not responsible for the media content you consume, but please be aware that some of these fics will have adult content that may be inappropriate for you. In addition, please pay attention to tags and trigger warnings. Stay safe!
I’m reccing just a couple of fics for each pairing, but feel free to do a deeper dive for each one, for most of these pairings… most of the fic is good, y’all. Hockey fic is just such a wealth of well written fic.
These are in 3 general categories: older pairings with men who are over 30 now, though they might not be in the fic, the 2015 draft class (and associated pairings, lol) and what I've lovingly dubbed "the kids." Please understand that anyone under the age of 26 is basically a kid to me, so I'm sorry if they're older than what you'd consider a "kid."
So you want to read about some old men, huh?
Sidney Crosby /Evgeni Malkin
And Never Been Kissed - https://archiveofourown.org/works/2676086 by thehoyden (rated E)
Very sweet 1st season fic but they were penpals first (and then roommates)
If you’re into kidfic: Some Other Beginning’s End -  https://archiveofourown.org/works/2018019 by turningterrific (rated E)
Some political stuff happened in 2014 that caused Geno to pretend that he had a canadian fiance (Sid) and also, surprise! He has a daughter. Very good kidfic, if that’s your thing.
Danny Briere / Claude Giroux
Friday Night Arrives without a Suitcase - https://archiveofourown.org/works/534247 - marycontraire ((unrated, i’d put it at T)
Set during the 2012 pause in which Danny and Claude (irl! They really did) move to Berlin together.
A perpetual feeling - https://archiveofourown.org/works/8990164 - oops_ohdear (Rated T)
Soulbond fic! Claude pretends he and Danny are bonded so that Danny won’t get traded.

What Will Survive of Us - https://archiveofourown.org/works/13152198 - by Ferritin4 (rated M)
Soulbond fic where Nicke & Ovi have.. Just wildly different bond communication styles.
The Dog Days are Over - https://archiveofourown.org/works/7876327 - by xihale (rated T)
Alex pretends that Nicke is his fiance so that the caps will be able to draft him. The problem is… they don’t actually know each other.
Everyone was obsessed with the 2015 draft class, ok?
Leon Draisaitl / Connor McDavid (I know Leon was the 2014 draft class, don’t touch me)
Practice Makes Perfect - https://archiveofourown.org/works/12704733 by crispierchip - (Rated E)
Connor & Leon are together, but Leon keeps deflecting when Connor tries to kiss him.
All In - https://archiveofourown.org/works/34990777 - by marmolita  (rated E)
Connor decides to see a professional Dom, but surprise - it’s Leon!
Source Four - https://archiveofourown.org/works/36908593 - by hannah_baker (rated E)
Oh man. Connor is a horror author (leans into the horror novel in the BEST way) and he and Leon live in the same building. This fic was delightful up and down. I don’t normally read WIPs, but the premise was so good I couldn’t resist. I waited for each chapter and was *so excited* when they were released now. (it’s finished now lol)
Leon Draisaitl / Matthew Tkachuk (ok even worse, I KNOW Matthew wasn’t part of the 2015 draft class either, but 2016 & 2014 AVERAGE to 2015.. ey??)
but please (don’t) bite - https://archiveofourown.org/works/24085693 - (rated M)
Seattle Draft fic! Leon & Matthew are both taken by Seattle in the draft
The Lockout ‘Verse - https://archiveofourown.org/series/1970524 - by blaahaj (rated E & T, respectively)

Robert Shrimsley discovers The Sopranos.
"The good news is I’ve just found this amazing new series to binge-watch. The bad news is that I can’t talk to anyone about it because it’s The Sopranos. I’m not quite sure what made us take the plunge. Maybe we wanted something less bloody after the wall-to-wall coverage of the This Morning saga, which saw Machine Gun Schofield brought down in a hail of unattributable quotes and schadenfreude. But it’s so good. You really should watch it, except, of course, you probably already have. So my wife and I are therefore devoting hours of our lives to bingeing on something that we cannot discuss with anyone because it turns out that we are the last people on Earth who had not already seen it.
Part of the joy of great TV is talking about it with others, but this time conversational gambits are pretty limited. There are only two responses to, “We’ve just started watching The Sopranos.” The first is, “Again?” and the second is, “You’ve never seen The Sopranos?”. Tiresomely, the second almost always follows the first despite the fact that it was rendered unnecessary by the previous answer. (The same thing happens at Pret A Manger when you reply in the negative to the question, “Taking away?”. The follow-up is invariably, “Eating in?”, which leaves you wondering about the other options that still need to be ruled out. Is there a Schrödinger’s Super Club sandwich that can be simultaneously consumed both on and off the premises?)
The incredulous “You’ve never seen The Sopranos?” reply comes with a fully loaded moral judgment which openly marks you down as a poor cultural sherpa. Bada Bing! Our social cachet is sleeping with the fishes. So we are denied the simple human pleasure of telling friends that “we’ve just found this amazing new series”, with its delightful subtext “which you won’t know about because you are not as cool as us”. We don’t get points for finding a series made outside the G20, nor can we claim to be watching the original foreign-language version with subtitles for those who don’t speak “Joisey”. We are merely signalling that at a time when there was only one great show on TV, we weren’t watching it.
Perhaps our sense of separation is a foretaste of life when everyone is wearing the virtual and augmented reality headsets being built by Apple and experiencing their entertainment in personalised isolation. There are people who wear these gaps in their culture as a badge of defiance, a sign of their higher aesthetic. They boast drearily about how they’ve “never watched The Wire” or “thought The West Wing unrealistic” (really, you think?). But that’s hard to carry off when you are known to have enjoyed Ted Lasso. (Only series one, obviously, because, you know, it really went downhill after that.)
I’m not really clear why I didn’t watch The Sopranos. It may be the spawn’s fault. Series one came to the UK in the year the boy was born and during that first-child haze when our only reliable TV experiences were the Teletubbies and 7am Sunday reruns of Match of the Day. In our new state of exhaustion perhaps it was on too late, or we kept forgetting to programme the video, or maybe the painstaking character development was just a bit too slow to keep me from falling asleep on the sofa. Having missed the first wave, we never got around to catching up. The boy, all innocence, caught us watching it the other day and dropped into the whole “How come you haven’t seen it?” shtick, to which the only possible reply was, “I don’t know, how come it took you 18 months to sleep through the night?”
It could be worse. Instead of being the last person to evangelise The Sopranos, I could have been the first to rave about Glee during the five early episodes, when it apparently wasn’t too bad. Worse, I could still be trying to persuade people that Schitt’s Creek really is worth sticking with because there’s a good joke in series three. I may be late to the party, but at least my taste remains unimpeachable. Anyway, in a few weeks we will have finished the series, erased our secret shame and moved on to something really cutting edge. I’ve heard good things about Breaking Bad."

💐🍼☁️✂️💚 for everyone! (Unless that's too much which fair please feel free to pick and choose)
basjkfbi hahahaa Thanks for the ask, Lilou! <3
I'm going to answer this under the cut because I'm doing all five of them (leaving Adahlena and Ilriane out of this, as usual; all seven would have been too many).
(OC Emoji Asks List)
💐 BOUQUET - create a bouqet for them! what do those flowers mean? are any of the flowers their particular favourite?
Arianwen Tabris: Wild tansy, bay leaf, aconite (wolfsbane), dragonwort, and blue pimpernel. What a delight to finally make a bouquet for someone who wants everyone else to choke and die! In order: I declare war against you, I change but in death, misanthropy (and again i say: what a move to send someone literal poison so they know you don't like them), horror, and change. As a city girl, I think Wen is a bit suspicious of flowers and plants in general, so idk that she has a favorite (other than loving the dandelions that grow in the cracks of the road).
Maria: Arbor vitae, red chrysanthemums, red poppies, honeysuckle, and white larkspur. Unchanging friendship, love, consolation, generous and devoted affection, and lightness/levity. Going for the classic scarlet/white combo with hers. Her favorite used to be honeysuckle (her father showed her how to eat the center as a treat and she's never forgotten), but later she's very partial to poppies (for, you know. no particular reason c:).
Elowen: Canary grass, celandine, swamp magnolia, purple pansies, christmas rose, and a sprig of weeping willow. Perseverance, joys to come, perseverance again, thoughts, relief of anxiety, and mourning. Oh, Elowen my overthinking beloved. She loves willow trees most (willows are her Thing), and I think she would enjoy the blossoms too (they look really fluffy).
Emmaera: Lavender (of course!), vervain, elfroot, forget-me-nots, rosemary, lupines, and goat's rue. (starting from vervain) Enchantment, healing, true love, remembrance, voraciousness/imagination, and reason. Lavender is her favorite, hands down, but I contest the Victorian flower language meaning (distrust) and exchange it for respite.
Salshira: Sorrel, holly (herb), cranberries, orange and yellow daisies, spanish jasmine, orange ranunculus, and fallen maple leaves. Affection, enchantment, cure for heartache, beauty, sensuality, radiant charm, and reserve. Going for the deep red/white/orange/brown combo here, since she's very fall-themed. Salshira really likes daisies, actually, and would be most charmed by a kind of loosely arranged handful of them instead of an elegant bouquet.
🍼 BABY BOTTLE - what are their thoughts on children?
Arianwen: Loves children, has no interest in making any of her own. Would kill anyone who hurt a child without question or hesitation. Vigil's Keep acquires a variety of orphans during her tenure as Warden Commander and they're sort of collectively raised by the Wardens (though of course she locates an actual tutor to educate them). For the first of them, Amethyne (the little girl you find in the alienage whose mom dies during the Cousland origin), Wen acts as a kind of close aunt (though Zev winds up regarding her as his kid, more or less).
Maria: Loves kids, wants a million of her own. She thinks the wonder of discovery that children still have is a way of feeling young again and has always wanted a huge family.
Elowen: Likes kids in theory, but struggles in practice. The idea of having children is generally foreign to her (though I do have one AU where it happens, for cultural reasons rather than personal preference).
Emmaera: Likes kids, but not very familiar with them because she didn't spend much time with kids her age when she was growing up. Winds up having two children of her own, both of them unplanned, and loves them to pieces.
Salshira: Likes kids, because they're pretty much always asking odd questions that having nothing to do with you or them. Basically the ideal for Salshira, who does not want to talk about herself. Never thought about having a family of her own until she fell in love, ends up wanting to give her children the kind of love and acceptance she never received as a kid. I haven't settled on how many she has, but at least one (Hauen).
☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon
Arianwen: Sings to all her animals when they are upset or sick; has a pretty good singing voice, actually.
Maria: Extremely ticklish. Fenris finds this out on accident and the squeal she makes is so surprising that he falls off the bed trying to dodge.
Elowen: Bull said he was into the way dawnstone looks, so she chiseled every little piece she could find out of the hillsides and set the scouts to looking for deposits just so she could custom-order a set of pink armor for him.
Emmaera: It's not a new headcanon, but she hides little notes for Cullen all over his quarters (and later, the manor). Some are simple "I love you"s and others are more specific or practical. She loves surprises and likes giving him simple, sweet surprises as part of his day.
Salshira: Remembers all her friends' favorite foods, colors, songs, etc. and arranges for them to be on hand when they're down or when there's something to celebrate.
✂️ SCISSORS - what is the "last straw" for them to cut someone out of their life? how easily do they let go of people?
Arianwen: So easily. It doesn't take much for Wen to pull the plug, except for a very small group of people she's collected as hers. It would take something monumental for her to cut off someone in her inner circle (Zev, Alistair, and Morrigan would have to do something extremely out of character to make it happen, for example--though I do think Morrigan telling Wen she ought to kill the alienage dwellers for a power boost might have done it. Luckily, she didn't come along for that mission). For everyone else, she is all too happy to cut them off (sometimes, you know, literally).
Maria: Maria has a really hard time letting go, so something really drastic would have to happen for her to be done with someone she considered a close friend. Um. Blowing up most of a city would just about do it, I think.
Elowen: I answered this for her here c:
Emmaera: Emma is extremely logical about her interpersonal relationships. I don't think she'd jump to cut someone off, but her trust is hard to earn and easier to lose. She wouldn't cut someone off entirely unless she thought the negative sides outweighed the positives (she never really forgave Blackwall, for example, but let him stay with the Inquisition until they didn't need him anymore). If someone showed a repeated willingness to hurt innocents or others she cares for, that would do it.
Salshira: Likewise, Salshira has a really hard time letting anyone in, so anyone close to her would have to wade through several layers of obfuscation before they could actually know the real her. This is a defense mechanism, but it also means that she has lots of time to push people away if she's wary of them. Anyone she's really close with is someone she wouldn't let go of easily; she cherishes her found family. Again, it would have to be something pretty heinous or out of character to cut someone off.
💚 GREEN HEART - what things make your oc feel comforted? hugs, kisses, food?
Arianwen: Food is at the top of the list, for sure. Especially something unusual or made especially for her, but she's not very picky. She also likes loose physical contact (leaning against someone, for example) which she can easily get out of if she wants.
Maria: Being held is number one. Maria is always reaching out for other people, and those people reaching back makes her feel fulfilled and safe. She is also a very textural person, so soft, fluffy things bring her comfort, too. Lying on a soft bed in her silk robe while someone (cough cough) holds her is her ideal situation.
Elowen: Quiet company and hot tea. Elowen needs to process before she can talk when she's upset, but she really doesn't want to be alone. When she's ready, someone who will listen to her without judgment is crucial. Being somewhere high in the air with a decent overlook also helps.
Emmaera: Putting things in order makes her feel more comforted. She doesn't want help, but she does want company. When she's thinking or upset, Emma will clean and organize, and by extension her surroundings being reasonably neat is comforting to her. She also finds sunlight and a concrete task to complete comforting, so she gardens in the spring/summer and rakes or shovels snow in the fall and winter. Someone talking things through with her and weighing the pros and cons is comforting.
Salshira: Physical touch for sure. It's the first and easiest way she has to express herself and it's the first thing she looks for when she's upset. Being warm and wrapped in a blanket is second. Also soup---soup is her big comfort food (me too tbh).

'“Why did this face come back?” Though that question is asked throughout “The Star Beast,” it goes unanswered thus far. But Doctor Who’s very fun, delightful, nostalgia-filled, cinematic, and, at times, funny first 60th anniversary special, featuring brilliant performances by David Tennant and Catherine Tate as The Doctor (yes, Fourteen feels very much like Ten) and Donna Noble again does solve one major problem.
At times, it feels like Tennant and Tate never left and The Doctor and Donna never parted — especially during a moment involving his sonic screwdriver (used in impressive ways). As Donna says near the end, “it’s like the old days.” But there’s the matter of aliens running around and, as The Doctor and Donna recap somewhat awkwardly for viewers to open the episode, the fact that she saved the universe by taking the power of a Time Lord into her mind, which resulted in her having to forget him and their travels together — or she’d die (“Journey’s End”).
Everything’s drawing them together in “The Star Beast,” starting with The Doctor going to help someone he sees carrying a tower of boxes only to realize it’s her (“Oi, do you mind?” she calls after him when he re-stacks the boxes and begins walking away). “What?” he asks (and it feels like this special was designed with making Tennant ask just that as many times as possible) when she then calls for Rose — her daughter (Yasmin Finney, who would be so much fun as a companion), not Billie Piper‘s character. Continuing the thread from their original run in Season 4, Donna completely misses the spaceship crashing because she’s turned away, dealing with the boxes. And in true Donna fashion, she leaves The Doctor with, “Nice to meet you, skinny man. Word of advice: You can wear a suit that tight up to the age of 35 — and no further.”
When Donna’s husband Shaun (Karl Collins) calls out to his family, The Doctor intercepts him and has the cab driver take him (“Allons-y!” — it had to happen) to the crash site. (“Catch up,” he tells the psychic paper identifying him as Grandmistress instead of Grandmaster.) He pretends to be a friend of Nerys (How is she? “She’s fine.” After the accident? “She’s not fine.” It was her fault. “She’s been fine.”) and learns that Donna gave away all the money she won with the lottery ticket The Doctor gave her (through her mother and grandfather) on the wedding day.
While sneaking around the steelworks factory where the spaceship crashed, The Doctor meets UNIT science officer Shirley (Ruth Madeley, who will hopefully recur going forward); she has figured out it actually landed, and he has determined there are two sets of visitors, at war. But, she wonders, why is he hiding? They’re on the same side. “It’s all a bit mad,” he admits. “I don’t know who I am anymore.” He looks like The Doctor. “Exactly, the one in a skinny suit. After that, I wear a bowtie. After that, I’m a Scotsman. After that, I’m a woman,” he explains, and that’s not his future. “I regenerated, and she became me.” What has him worried is Donna, “my best friend in the whole wide universe. I absolutely love her. Oh, do I say things like that now? … I won’t be the one who killed her.” And so of course, soon after, he encounters her again.
When The Doctor tags along with UNIT soldiers, he ends up on her block — just in time to hear her shouting about aliens (“We’ve got a bloody Martian in the shed!”). Rose stumbled across The Meep (voiced by Miriam Margolyes) and tried hiding the alien from her mother in her shed, with the toys she makes and sells online, but failed to do so. Despite the level of concern, it’s comical the way that Donna’s mother Sylvia (Jacqueline King), heeding The Doctor’s warning of what would happen if Donna remembered, tries to continue keeping her in the dark. There’s no such thing as spaceships in the sky. No, Donna doesn’t see The Meep clutching her leg. No, The Doctor — whom Sylvia hits — cannot come in, nor does Donna see him as she tries to hide him behind her.
Donna does wonder why The Doctor is so interested in them, and he doesn’t help matters by asking about her grandfather, Wilf (Bernard Cribbins). When she says he’s not with them anymore, The Doctor thinks he died. “Of course, he wasn’t young. I loved that man. I’m so sorry for your loss,” he offers his condolences, and we can’t help but think of their conversation about death in “The End of Time.” No, Wilf is still alive, in sheltered accommodation, paid for by UNIT’s Kate (Jemma Redgrave, who will appear in these specials). “I know her!” The Doctor exclaims.
He assures the family that he’ll help get The Meep — “My chosen pronoun is the definite article,” the alien says after Rose calls The Doctor out on assuming “he” — home. But soon after The Meep explains the Wrarth Warriors cultivated Meepkind for fur and slaughtered them, the house comes under attack — by the other aliens and UNIT soldiers who were hypnotized after opening the spaceship, fighting each other. The Doctor creates shields using his sonic screwdriver, which he hands to Donna at one point and she takes like the partners in crime they once were, and directs everyone upstairs. But after they crawl through adjacent attics and reach Shaun’s car, The Doctor realizes something’s off.
Away from the action, The Doctor dons a barrister’s wig (we were expecting all the nods we got to previous Doctor Who episodes, but not to Tennant’s role in The Escape Artist), intercepts the Wrarth Warriors’ teleport, and extracts the truth: They’re using stun guns and trying to capture The Meep, mutated into a cruel beast by a living sun gone mad, for despicable crimes. The Meep kills the Warriors and uses the hypnotized UNIT soldiers to take The Doctor (who uses the fact that he, too, has two hearts, as a strategy the alien should want to unpack) and the others as hostages.
On their way to the factory, The Doctor, while dodging questions about his identity, asks Donna why she gave away the lottery money. “Because there are places out there where people are in danger, in pain, in fear, and I could help. It just felt like the sort of thing he would do,” she says. And if that “he” has Sylvia worried, that’s nothing on when Donna, as Shirley helps the group escape (weapons in her wheelchair, of course) and sends The Doctor to stop The Meep and the family to safety, stays behind. “If The Doctor can’t save the city, we’re all going to die. I’ve got to help,” Donna says, and her mother realizes she called him by name.
To be fair, The Doctor does try to keep Donna out of it, even as they’re trapped on The Meep’s ship, the alien is destroying London (and about to kill everyone) to take off, and a glass door divides the room in half, so the Time Lord can only reach half the buttons to stop it. But then, with time running out, he tells her, “You and I can stop this ship, together, but it will kill you.” She agrees because not only is it Rose’s life in danger but also nine million people. “Who cares about me?” she asks. “I do!” he says. “I’m just no one,” Donna argues. “No, you are not!” The Doctor tells her before raging, devastated, “Why does it have to be this?” And with that, resigned, he activates the Time Lord part still in her.
Here is when Donna feels (and sounds) the most like Donna again (other than her reaction to teen boys being awful to her daughter), as she rants about giving away her money because of a subconscious part making her act like him while also saving London and stopping The Meep. But then, with seconds left to live, she collapses. Maybe his face came back “to say goodbye,” she suggests as she dies in his arms … or not? Just as The Meep’s soldiers are about to kill The Doctor (do what you want, he says, “you were beaten by The DoctorDonna!”), someone begins flipping switches, freeing UNIT: Rose!
The Doctor realizes that the metacrisis passed down to Rose, a shared inheritance, and she, too, was activated when Donna was. That’s why Rose chose the name she did. The shed was her memory of the TARDIS, and she remembered the creatures The Doctor and Donna met as toys. While they’re binary, Rose isn’t, because The Doctor is male and female and neither and more.
After that, it’s just a matter of Wrarth Warriors taking The Meep into custody, though the alien warns The Doctor before the transport, “I will escape and have my revenge, so you beware, Doctor. Because there’s one more thing. … A creature with two hearts is such a rare thing, just wait until I tell the boss.” And while the metacrisis in Donna and Rose is still troubling, they solve that problem themselves: by just letting it go. (“It’s a shame you’re not a woman anymore because she would’ve understood,” Donna comments, with Rose adding, it’s “something a male-presenting Time Lord will never understand.”)
Then it’s back to the TARDIS for The Doctor, and Donna refuses to let Rose see inside “because something will go wrong and you’ll end up on Mars with Chaucer and a robot shark.” The Doctor does convince Donna to come for one last trip, to see Wilf, now that she remembers. “It’s like the old days, just me and The Doctor, together,” Donna says, happy.
It’s once they’re inside that we see how the TARDIS has changed: sleek, shiny, with lots of ramps for The Doctor to run up and down, which he does, exclaiming, “This is amazing! You clever thing!” He’s delighted in a way he couldn’t have been until now, with Donna back. She, at first, complains it’s still nippy before conceding, “it’s gorgeous!” And it is! Still, she asks about his face coming back. “Does there have to be a reason?” he asks. “We’re stuck with it now.” (We know that’s not the case.)
“I really do remember… every second with you. I’m so glad you’re back because it killed me, Donna. It killed me, it killed me, it killed me,” The Doctor admits, giving her a cup of coffee. She doesn’t see why he can’t stop by to visit with her family after this trip because “you’ve been given a second chance. You could do things different this time, so why don’t you do something completely new and have some friends?” He’s non-committal in his answer. And then Donna, just as she wonders, “What’s going to go wrong?” spills her coffee on the TARDIS console. She did warn him that was how she lost her job… And so the TARDIS takes off, and they “could end up anywhere in time and space,” according to The Doctor.
Since The Doctor might not feel like saying it here, we will, because we can’t wait to see where they land: Allons-y!'

As a preface I just wanted to say that I'm really glad I stumbled on this page; I had dropped RWBY but your analysis and Skimming Eye (which is incredible btw) pulled me back in. I'm curious as to your interpretation of the Paper Pleasers and Jaune (aside from the dad angle, which is kinda fun to think about). I personally saw it as a setup for Jaune's Ascension, allowing him to regain purpose after being disillusioned and return to youth (hopefully with the hair). Thank you for your time.
Yay, enrichment in my containment. Thank you anon. That's very kind of you to say, and thank you for reading my fanfic.
I admit to being delighted it made you watch RWBY again, though I take no responsibility for the emotional damages. tee hee
I don't commit to any premature conclusions; there are a few ways they could play it yet. The idea of rebirth (which Jaune currently rejects) is significant. The set-up right now is that Jaune is old and disillusioned and has lost his life; he's given himself to waiting.
Would you marry a literal rebirth (magical transformation) with a symbolic transformation? Yes, and most prominently - I may be repeating myself here - this is the set-up for other characters in the story (Cinder, Oscar) who will go through the same thing. What happens to him will tell us what to expect with them. Even Penny has already given us the foreshadowing of what may happen to Ozma.
They've set the stage-and-scene, so it's just a matter of following through. Once you consider the evidence (king reborn as a prince) and how that can be followed on through, it does make one wonder. The problem is that the prince doesn't remember his life as the king, but I doubt that will be the case in Jaune's context (and separately in Oscar's, he similarly has 'too much life'). I think the threat he might forget is just to give more narrative weight to whatever twist eventuates.
You might see under my Jaune tag that I've written about rebirth as a theme in his character arc and the connected autumnal imagery, and I still think this is significant with him. So right now, with what they committed to this episode, a depressing resolution is off the cards. I would tentatively assert that. It's not fair he's been alone, it's not fair he's been left in Ever After, we know martyrdom has been rejected with him, right now he's terrified of rebirth and change and confronting who he really is, so that is the organic direction to take him. It's just how that's in question, so then you need to start asking practical questions.
Of course, as I remarked briefly in an errant post, if it's as simple as a magical fruit that makes him old, it may not be all that complicated. The psychological journey is the hard part. Practically whatever form it eventuates will convey the ideas we need.
Right now Jaune and Ruby are most closely going through separate awakenings to spiritual aridity. So his transformation is probably going to happen in respect to hers. That's at least how I would tie it, and how it's been tied so far. What does that tell us about the things they'll have to do, and the ideological evolution of them both? I really think it's an exciting direction to take them, especially depending on future narrative developments. What heroes do they want to be? What do they have to confront to understand themselves, and the people around them? How do they accept the pain of being truly alive?
I agree: hopefully with the hair. I think that if they did keep that, honestly, it would visually represent a merging of him then and now. No exaggeration, when they revealed his new hair back during V7 I was like, oh okay they've abandoned Jaune because this makes him look like a joke, and I don't know if this happens to be a course correction in response to that, but it is conceptually interesting. It's possible to twist that into something meaningful, anyway, if I were writing by the seat of my pants.
My summary of how much has changed regarding his character this episode: really I think this has struck the possibility he won't be saved off the books, and a physical transformation to represent a symbolic idea is clever. Then you get the interesting interplay of an older character who's also young, which is like Oscar, with an experience which has alienated but also empowered him. Suffice it to say, it sets up a lot narratively. Who else has been alone, tormented, and isolated for that long?

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
Tumblr media
Only one thing dates Mr. Smith Goes to Washington: the controversy that accompanied its release. Said controversy seems absurdly comical when looked at today. This 1939 film is eerily modern. Brilliantly acted and directed, memorable, emotional, funny and touching, it’s the kind of movie you’ve seen referenced and imitated many times - you just don't know it. This is one of the great ones, the kind of story that awakens something inside you.
Under pressure from the corrupt Jim Taylor (Edward Arnold), Governor Hubert Hopper (Guy Kibbee) must appoint a new U.S. senator to replace the recently deceased Sam Foley. They are looking for a stooge the crooked Senator Joseph Paine (Claude Rains) can keep in check. Taylor chooses Jefferson Smith (James Stewart), a wholesome idealist with no political experience.
If you’re familiar with any moment from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, it’s probably the climactic “filibuster scene”. If this is all you know, you have no idea what the film is really like. You might’ve guessed that it’s inspirational but Smith is more than an everyman, he’s the concept taken to another level. Once in Washington, he immediately walks away from his entourage and goes on a pilgrimage around the city, visiting monuments that take his breath away. As an audience member in the 21st century, you chuckle a little but it doesn’t take too long for you to understand what he’s seeing. Smith is not like us. He’s never seen the Statue of Abraham Lincoln; he’s only heard and read about it. Standing in the shadow of the marble titan, he cannot help but be overwhelmed by hope and inspiration. He knows he’s underqualified for the job given to him. Rather than be discouraged, he's determined to try even harder.
You sympathize and fall in love with the dreamer thanks to James Stewart’s performance. When he comes head-to-head with Taylor and his stooges, you realize the movie is about so much more than politics; it’s about standing up for what’s right no matter the odds. Taylor has all of the power. He can basically do whatever he wants unopposed. Even knowing this cannot prepare you for the overwhelming obstacles Smith faces. And what does our hero have to counterattack with? Little more than the backing of the people he’s won over legitimately - which is still not much compared to what money can buy. It’s a nerve-wracking battle, the kind that makes you sink into a pit of despair. You don’t know whether ultimately, this is a fight he can win. Maybe an unhappy ending is the reason the film was attacked as anti-American and pro-Communist for its portrayal of corruption in the government...
Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Alben W. Barkley called the film “silly and stupid”, “a grotesque distortion” of the Senate, which is a shock to anyone who watches today. Part of what makes Mr. Smith Goes to Washington so good is its authenticity. Though Smith is an idealist, the story knows being in power doesn't mean you're a good person. There are a lot of crooked people in the story. Even the nice ones are passively complicit in the dark deals happening in Washington - but there’s also hope. It’s made clear that ultimately, Frank Capra believes one person CAN make a difference, that individuals ARE important.
All this makes the movie seem so dark and dire. It is, particularly during the last act but it’s also got a lot of humour throughout. Smith is such a fish out of water you can’t help but laugh at him when he arrives on the scene. You'll be in stitches every time he interacts with his appointed secretary, the cynical takes-no-guff-from-anyone Saunders (Jean Arthur, fantastic). The two of them are so good together that you could forget all of the business in the Senate and still have a great film.
Simply as a piece of cinema, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a delight. A particular scene in which the camera focuses on Smith’s hat says so much with so little. You don’t see the performers’ faces at all but you know exactly what’s going on. There are many scenes like this. It’s simply fabulous, the kind of movie that has a little bit of everything: romance, humor, suspense, great performances, camerawork and writing. This is the kind of movie you see once and then never forget. (On Blu-ray, June 26, 2020)

BAD BUDDY METAPHORS – THE ONE BAG TO RULE THEM ALL
It’s finally arrived – my dear friends RI and DH got me Pran’s PP bag when they swung by GMM-TV’s headquarters during their recent trip to Bangkok, and it’s quite my pride and joy at the moment.
Tumblr media
The bag is double-layered and plastic-based (I can’t tell if it’s polyester, polypropylene or something else) – it feels like a crunchily sturdy and waterproof carrier, rather than the soft and absorbent fabric tote I was expecting. The dark navy base also has a subtle mottled print not visible in the show (but you can see it in the photograph above).
Pran’s PP bag was probably the first visual detail that I noticed in Bad Buddy slyly winking out a message of yet more information and subtext hiding below the surface – that the series was more than just the unfolding of a simple story brought to life by the intrepid acting of Ohm and Nanon and the confident guiding hand of Director Backaof. For me it was the first inkling that Bad Buddy had been meticulously built up with layers of meaning, rich with little Easter Egg details if you would only lean in just a little bit closer for a better look.
I’ve mentioned this before in a previous analysis (linked here), but thought I’d write it up a bit more in this essay.
I’ll never forget when Pran’s PP bag first turned my head – it was during the Behind-the-Scenes video on YouTube of the scene where Pat and Pran race up the stairs to their student apartments in Ep.3 ([Behind The Scenes] วันแรก ซีนแรก ก็ต้องวิ่งแข่งกันหน่อย! | แค่เพื่อนครับเพื่อน | BAD BUDDY SERIES, timestamp 2.11).
Tumblr media
In response to a suggestion from Nanon, Assistant Director Pepzi Banchorn Vorasataree (she of the vibrant hair) tells Director Backaof: “P’Aof, this kid wants to sell the hobo bag.” (I think the subtitles intend for the word “sell” here to carry the meaning of “highlight” or “give prominence to”. Just guessing, though.)
The whole exchange got me thinking, so I gave the bag another look – and only then did I notice that the giant P (for Pran) had a smaller P (guess who? 😊) nestled at its center.
Tumblr media
So Pran’s bag is also a metaphor for how he had been carrying a torch for Pat all these years – throughout that time Pran had been signaling Pat’s special place in his heart for all the world to see, even while refusing to acknowledge those feelings (any feelings, really) outright.
Aligned with Pran’s love of emotional subterfuge, anyone who noticed the double P could also have read it as symbolizing “Pran Parakul”, burying its message about Pat+Pran beneath another layer of meaning. But even if that were to have been Mr. Metaphor’s official explanation, we know that in private the significance would have run deeper for him, because Bad Buddy does another little tip of the hat to the double P symbolizing Pat+Pran later on.
This happens when Pat gives a new earphone case to Pran at Ep.8 [3I4] 7.59, since he’s always forgetting or misplacing his earphones (e.g., at Ep.8 [3I4] 7.30, also referenced at Ep.8 [1I4] 4.47 and Ep.10 [1I4] 11.23). The case also has a double P on it (symbolizing PatPran’s relationship) but like the graphic on Pran’s bag, it appears more like a single P unless you look closely.
Tumblr media
But of course expert sign-reader and metaphor aficionado Pran latches onto the significance immediately, reacting with delight (Ep.8 [3I4] 8.13). Pat pretends not to see the hidden doubling when questioned by Pran – which delights Pran even more, for Pran LOVES using cryptic signs and symbols as visual shorthand for his emotional state, and Pat’s little gift here not only shows that he understands Pran’s penchant for metaphorical communication, but also that he understands how Pran likes to keep hidden the precious emotions that his symbols signify (and at this stage Pran is not yet ready to go public with their love – which is another way of reading what the covert double P, masquerading under the guise of singlehood, symbolizes).
It’s also a sweet little touch that Pat’s gift of the earphone case and its double P is accompanied by his reminders “Don’t leave it anywhere again” and “Keep it in a safe place” (Ep.8 [3I4] 8.02 and 8.08). He may have intended for the double P on the case (mirroring Pran’s bag) to be a visual memory aid, helping Pran to remember his earphones by echoing the symbol of Pran’s enduring love for his never-forgotten Pat. It’s almost as if Pat is saying “I’m gifting you with a little reminder of the one you never forgot, whom you could never forget – me – so don’t you forget these earphones either.”
Of course, their relationship will always have a built-in contrarian dynamic, and Pran will keep forgetting his earphones later on anyway (see Ep.10 [1I4] 11.23, Ep.12 [3I4] 6.31, and Ep.12 [3I4] 13.05).
Tumblr media
It turns into one of those little couple’s foibles for them, allowing them to snipe at each other, but without malice – they keep on at it more as an excuse to indulge in the playful, good-natured teasing we’ve come to recognize as PatPran’s demonstration of genuine affection born from decades of rivalry, before rivalry turned to love.
Another way of looking at the bag – and this saddens me a little – is how it might have been a bit of a grown-up Linus blanket for sensitive Pran before they became a couple.
Tumblr media
Just like Dissaya standing guard at home to keep Ming and his influence out, Wai looking out for him at boarding school, the talisman smiley protecting his student apartment door, peer mentor Joke playing big brother at his faculty, and the hidden messaging behind his chat ID and his computer passwords (all analyzed here), you get a sense that Pran was shielding himself from the world with another layer of emotional protection (especially when he had the bag slung over his front like he did while running up the stairs in Ep.3).
But I think it’s sweet too that Pran didn’t abandon his faithful bag even after he and Pat became a couple. He might not have needed any more psychological bolstering, but its cryptic messaging was still relevant after Ep.11, when PatPran set their relationship status to stealth mode and the secret sounding of the double P took on a note of defiance (“P and P are still right here under your noses, suckers; you just don’t see us, and this time we have the upper hand.”) 😉👍
Much like the rooftop of their student apartment building (the setting for key junctures in PatPran’s relationship – see this link here for a listing), Pran’s PP bag was also present at many moments and events that were stressful, significant, dramatic and/or emblematic of change.
Thus, in honor of the PP bag’s steadfast duty and service to Pran (and to the series), I thought it’d be fun to list the scenes where the bag appears, since it’s been in every episode. But I soon realized that was an exercise in madness because it was in so many scenes. (It was like trying to list every scene that Pran was in – why bother when he’s a main character? He’d be in almost every frame.) Pran’s PP bag was like an uncredited but highly visible supporting actor, who silently stood watch at critical points in Pran’s life.
So instead of a full listing, here’s a (not so random) sampling of important moments and events at which Pran’s PP bag was also a taciturn witness, in every episode:
Tumblr media
PatPran’s first deal behind-the-scenes to dupe the world at large (the Ep.1 fake fight, which foreshadows their pact in Ep.12 to live out their couplehood defiantly on the down-low) – at Ep.1 [4/4] 1.48.
The flirty dumpling exchange – it all starts at Ep.2 [1I4] 12.59 (significance of the dumplings explained here).
Pat helping to spark Pran’s creativity during the re-design process of the bus-stop with some imaginative role-play – Ep.3 [3I4] 5.35.
Pat and Pran at the Logtech Building when they get the sponsorship go-ahead (albeit with reduced funding) – Ep.3 [3I4] 13.17.
The first time Pat enters Pran’s student apartment (after lending him his earphones) – Ep.4 [1I4] 13.07 (the bag is on Pran’s dining table, visible at timestamp 13.18).
When Pran catches sight of Ink buying Pat iced milk tea – Ep.4 [1I4] 16.55 and Ep.4 [2/4] 0.20 (significance explained here).
The morning after the night before: the opening scene of Ep.5, that starts with Pat and Pran bickering like an old couple (which in a sense they are), after which Pat happily sniffs around Pran’s apartment like a joyful puppy who’s finally found his forever home (which in a sense he has); the importance of this scene is analyzed here and here.
Pat realizing that he was in love with Pran at the music shop – Ep.5 [2/4] starting at 6.56.
Pat and Pran at the Archi Volunteer Camp – Ep.6 [2/4] 1.44.
Pat and Pran trying to make each other jealous at the wonton noodle stall – Ep.7 [3I4] starting at 3.56.
Tumblr media
Pat gifting Pran his PP earphone case – Ep.8 [3I4] 7.34.
Pran’s iced milk tea do-over at the picnic table – Ep.9 [1I4] 11.01 (analyzed here).
Pran and his friends discussing Pat being falsely charged for gun possession at a café – Ep.9 [4/4] 2.48.
Pran racing to stop the police from charging Pat with gun possession – Ep.9 [4/4] starting at 5.39.
Pran being surprised by Pa, Ming, and Pat’s mom at the hospital – Ep.9 [4/4] 10.59 and Ep.10 [1I4] 1.32
PatPran’s khan maak – scene beginning at Ep.10 [1I4] 9.47.
Pat and Pran finding out about Ming and Dissaya while interviewing Kruu Payao – Ep.10 [3I4] 7.48.
PatPran’s confrontation with Ming at the mall (the bag is in the shopping cart) – Ep.10 [4/4] 2.44.
Pran’s confrontation with Dissaya – Ep.10 [4/4] 4.32.
PatPran running away to the Zero Waste Village – Ep.11 [1I4] 4.20.
Pran leaving for Singapore to further his career – Ep.12 [3I4] 6.28.
The bag is also in Pran’s first ever scene of the series – at Ep.1 [1I4] 2.24, slung over the back of his chair (but it’s not a confirmed sighting since you can’t really make out the double P). And it’s in the intro as well, e.g., at Ep.1 [1I4] 7.14, 7.20, 7.40, and 7.45.
Like Pran’s heart that never stopped loving Pat, his old hobo bag kept the faith throughout Bad Buddy’s short run of 12 episodes. I’m not sure there’s a better symbol for all of us faithful fans still thinking about this gentle series months after it ended. And maybe like Pran used to do, I hug it a little bit closer toward the end of every week when I need to bolster my own forlorn heart, now that Friday nights and Saturday mornings are just that little bit emptier without a new hour of Pat, Pran and the whole Bad Buddy gang to look forward to… 💖
PS So if you see anybody out and about carrying their own PP bag, do remember to go up and say “Hi” to a fellow member of our secret club. You already know this – any fan of Bad Buddy is sure to have some kindness in their soul… 😊

SCRAP SPOTLIGHT!

Tony being loved by his employees
Tony is the best boss. He knows the names of all the people he works with on a daily basis. He knows who is getting married, who is out on maternity leave, who has a parent in the hospital, who has kids. The SI benefits and insurance are amazing, unparalleled, and the pay is great too. Very few openings ever occur with SI (unless a new branch opens), because he’s got such high employee loyalty. They love working there, they love their boss, they never leave. Employee Appreciation Day always includes a pay raise, parties, catered breakfast and lunch, the whole nine yards. The end of year bonus is generous bordering on excessive. In return he is beloved by all of his employees. He constantly has baked goods in his office (that he freely shares with everyone). He has an entire wall to display his collection of HUNDREDS of World’s Best Boss mugs. His birthday and Christmas always bring in a flood of cards and presents, all of which he cherishes (and gets all cute and bashful about).

Tony goes to a new museum exhibit on 20th Century material culture that includes a display of tool steel, different types and what it was used for. An old guy, reasonably well dressed, is looking at it and grumbling about how they got the display wrong and *this* type was used for *that and that* as well. Tony starts talking with him and finds out the guy worked as a tool engineer for General Motors back in the day, and took bits of assembly-line machinery home to fix in his basement when it wasn't quite right. And in his spare time he rebuilt classic cars. Tony is enchanted, invites him back to the tower, and to the workshop, and to dinner with Pepper. He charms Pepper, but he delights Tony no end by looking at his cars and saying, Can I turn this one on? Tony says yes, of course, and the old guy turns on the car, rolls down the window, lays his head on the window frame in the door and tells Tony what's wrong in the engine, just from the sound. And Tony gives him free run of the workshop and a bedroom if he wants to stay, and the old guy corrects Tony on what metal he can use for that new bit on the Iron Man suit, and explains why .... you see where this could go. Thing is, I can't write it. I knew him, and whenever I try, I start crying. So if you take this on, have fun with it. Old guy should be an Italian immigrant who speaks excellent English with only a small accent, and has no remaining family because he's outlived them all.

Paladium poisoning doesn't happen until after the events of The Avengers. Of course Tony keeps it to himself until it gets really bad Bruce finds him in the Garage the way Rhodey did in IM2, Tony asks for help but to not tell the others. Bruce thinks that's a bad idea but does as Tony wishes. During a battle Tony has an attack and can't function making him vulnerable. When the battle is done and they get Tony back safe, they ask what happened and Tony doesn't want to say so Bruce does. The team is very worried and want to know how they can help but there's nothing they can do really but wait for a possible antidote. Bruce comes up with the serum SHIELD did in IM2 and injects Tony with it every few days when he needs it but the effectiveness is less and less each time. They need to find a cure fast. The team (or Steve if it's Stony) is with him when Fury drops off Howard's trunk (could be a sentimental moment between Steve and Tony going through Howard's things, Steve seeing the obsession with the Atlantic, when Tony watches the video of Howard talking to Tony, etc) and when Tony figures out Howard's new element. The team helps in the deconstruction of the floors and walls to make a collider and the new element. (If Stony, Tony lets Steve do the honors of putting in the new element into the reactor).
And don't forget to come check out our other scraps, including one from Nasha featuring WinterPepperony. IronChillyPepper? Tony x Pepper x Bucky? Either way, there's a threesome in the works!
