I stopped doing twitter when it became a cp and Nazi hellscape so I’m a bit slow in learning news
Apparently Rowling got drunk on wine and attacked Watson and Radcliffe for daring to not bend their knees to the all mighty queen terf
Like a true fascist she lashes out at anyone who doesn’t follow the leader and kiss the ring in her genocidal ideology
And of course she assumes apology is coming and says they can save it
No one will ever apologize to a fascist that only lives to hate and uses sexual assault and abuse as a shield for genocide and hate mongering to the point she allies with Matt Walsh and Michael Knowles two misogynists who constantly talk about turning women into breeding stock under a patriarchal regime that would make the Nazis seem moderate
Fuck her and support those that refuse to bow to tyranny

NYMEROS MARTELL slaps so hard, grrm really looked at the martells and said I'll make you go through unspeakable suffering but you will never be dull, tragedy = art!!
Someone had to be the "talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference" of ASOIAF
— Resisting the Conquest and taking down a dragon + Nymeros Martell + "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" + women ruling + cities with the most beautiful names combo?? my darlings served, ate and left no crumbs

Just popped in to say that Elia is not irrelevant and unimportant. By saying that you are completely disregarding the pain and suffering she went through, and you’re blatantly ignoring the injustice of her story and the story of ASoIaF. While she is certainly a minor character during the current timeline of the series, her tragedy paints a bigger picture of how racism, greed, lust, revenge, and hunger for power harms the innocent. She was a victim of King Aerys, Prince Rhaegar, Lord Tywin, Ser Gregor, and Lord/King Robert. Each of these men had different motivations, and she and her children were victims to every single one. Elia is relevant and important, crucially so. Her story (and Oberyn’s death) is the driving force of House Martell and Dorne.

People on here are so dumb about dorne. so you’re saying Meria’s fears for Dorne, and thereby what’s left of the Rhoynar who literally fled a continent to escape Valyria and dragons, isn’t a valid reason to refuse to bend the knee to Aegon? She’s a horrible woman because she wouldn’t bow to this inbred jumped up descendant of a sheep farmer, never mind that she sent peace terms when the Conquest first started, saying she would fight with Aegon as an equal, which he summarily rejected, and sent Rhaenys on Meraxes to threaten to murder them all if they didn’t bend the knee. How exactly is Meria supposed to know Aegon didn’t mean to make her people slaves once again? How is she supposed to know they won’t overrule Dornish law and usurp the rights of her granddaughter, Deria Martell?? What proof is there that Aegon doesn’t mean to rebuild Valyria on the corpses of her people and her house beyond his pinky promise? Why exactly is MERIA at fault for AEGON’S actions in setting her country on fire?
Especially when, smack dab between the lines about Dorne being a smoking ruin and the death toll being unimaginable is this:
Dorne was a blighted, burning ruin by this time, and still the Dornish hid and fought from the shadows, refusing to surrender. Even the smallfolk refused to yield, and the toll in lives was uncountable.
Clearly, it wasn’t just Meria Nymeros Martell that feared what surrendering to a Valyrian dragonrider would mean, which makes sense, given the mixing of Dornish and Rhoynish cultures in Dorne (even the Stony Dornish fight back despite their culture being closer to the Andals and First Men) and the orphans of the Greenblood, who still keep Rhoynish ways, would definitely have a problem with surrendering to a Valyrian. In fact, the first thing Rhaenys does when she shows up in 4 AC is burn Planky Town, the seat of the orphans of the Greenblood! The image of that alone - a Valyrian dragon rider burning down a town populated by the last of Nymeria’s Rhoynar refuges - is more than enough to convince Dorne that bending the knee to House Targaryen would be a brutal, deadly mistake for their people, regardless of Aegon’s intentions for what ruling would actually look like.
Also, if you actually read the book, it says there aren’t many real cities in Dorne (basically just Sunspear, Planky Town, and a smattering of keeps and holds and that don’t really count as towns), she ordered her people to abandon their holds to Aegon and fight in the desert where they might win, and those cities still exist just fine in the present day so clearly Balerion and Vhagar didn’t do nearly as much damage as Aegon wanted them to!

HOUSE MARTELL
Nymeria, the warrior queen of the Rhoyne, brought her ten thousand ships to land in Dorne, the southernmost of the Seven Kingdoms, and took Lord Mors Martell to husband. With her help, he vanquished his rivals to rule all Dorne.
The Rhoynar influence remains strong. Thus Dornish rulers style themselves “Prince” rather than “King.” Under Dornish law, lands and titles pass to the eldest child, not the eldest male.
Dorne, alone of the Seven Kingdoms, was never conquered by Aegon the Dragon. It was not permanently joined to the realm until two hundred years later, and then by marriage and treaty, not the sword.
Peaceable King Daeron II succeeded where the warriors had failed by wedding the Dornish princess Myriah and giving his own sister in marriage to the reigning Prince of Dorne.
The Martell banner is a red sun pierced by a golden spear.
Their words are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.
The principal houses sworn to Sunspear include Jordayne, Santagar, Allyrion, Toland, Yronwood, Wyl, Fowler, and Dayne.

i might be misremembering something, so please correct me if i'm wrong but don't the martells hold a bigger grudge against the lannisters than the targaryens? and aerys and rhaegar play as much a role in what happened to elia and her kids as tywin did. we know about the martell-targaryen alliance that didn't come into fruition and doran sent quentyn to meet with dany to make another alliance. so why would the daynes get shunned for what happened during the rebellion and presumably for what arthur did, i can't really think of anything else, when the martells are more than willing to ally themselves with the targaryens? is it because the daynes are no longer useful allys? was there something already brewing and now the other houses finally had a reason? do ned and allyria simply have bad vibes??
anon referring to this post about the daynes after robert's rebellion.
yeah the martells hate the lannisters, tywin in particular, because he was directly responsible for elia and her children's murder. the lannister sacked the city and tywin's soldiers raped and killed the princess. imo they do blame the targaryens somewhat, rhaegar most of all for humiliating elia so many times but all of them are already dead and viserys and daenerys have nothing to do with the rebellion. it's more or less why oberyn risked himself defending tyrion just to take revenge on the real enemy, tywin and the mountain. you have to understand the martells were inextricably tied to the targaryens during the rebellion, even if rhaegar and aerys humiliated elia when the king asked for their armies they had to answer. they didn't have allies outside of dorne to resist the targaryen and remember how cersei was jealous of elia? i'd bet many house felt scorned by aerys choosing the sickly dornish princess.
as for the daynes, ok, let's remember this is not proper canon, it's just a theory, so i would say the kingsguard stationed at the tower of joy is another insult to elia. to them, they are guarding rhaegar's mistress and rhaegar's bastard instead of guarding and defending the actual wife and children of the prince. we can't actually say the martells knew what the kg were doing in dorne, but they for sure knew they were there either by aerys or rhaegar's design. wasted in that sad little tower instead of leading the defense like ser barristan and prince lewyn or protecting the royal family like jaime and ser willem. they were basically useless. martells might think, esp of arthur, another dornishman whose sister was elia's closest lady, that the knights didn't care enough or didn't fight enough to do their duties. then the story of ned arriving at starfall to return dawn would've leaked and imagine how it looks: robert baratheon's best friend going to starfall to amicably return the dayne's sacred sword (there is history of stealing the valyrian sword of another house when there's defeat; i think there are two ironborn houses with stolen swords currently). they are not meeting as enemies, as the martells, at this time, might think of anyone of robert's side: ned, jon arryn, tywin, etc. remember jon arryn had to personally broker the peace between dorne and the new crown, oberyn was raising the banners for viserys. it was all pretty unstable.
