Fandom Problem 4233:
“Bi erasure is not a problem”
-Asshole who refuses to acknowledge Bi characters as being Bi in favor of claiming that they’re gay when they are canonically not.
Because God fucking forbid us Bi people have anything at all.

#Vote to End OTW Racism
A Call To Action
Earlier this week the OTW responded to our previous action and reaffirmed their commitment towards combating and preventing racism within its platforms.
They also thanked us for working to keep holding them accountable to their goals and we intend to keep doing so.
To that end, Fandom Against OTW Racism is calling for our Second Action!! This action is centered around the upcoming Board Elections set for August 11-14. We want to encourage everyone who can to participate in the election process and spread the word far and wide about these elections!
Currently, 4 of the 7 Board positions are up for election, which is a majority. Now is the time to get involved. In light of multiple accounts coming forth about the state of the organization, it is clear that fundamental changes need to happen – and those can only happen with a shift in leadership, from what we currently have to one that is capable of supporting and implementing those much-needed changes.
Please join us in calling upon our fellow fans to vote to make things better for all of us!
How to get involved:
With four Board Seats open, now is the perfect time to act and make this issue a key component of this election to select people who demonstrate a commitment to combating racism in our fannish spaces. So if you can, please plan to vote this election cycle!!
If you already are a member, use your voice and Vote. If you have donated in any of the fundraising drives for AO3 in the last year, you are likely eligible. You can check your eligibility status here by selecting “Is my membership current/Am I eligible to vote?”
If you are not currently a member or eligible, consider donating $10.00 so that you can gain membership in OTW and be able to vote. In order to vote your donation must be received by June 30th.
When donating you can add ‘End OTW Racism’ to the ‘In Honor Of’ field if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you donate, ensure you select the yes to the ‘Do you want to be an OTW member?’ question
Tumblr media
[alt text: image of text that reads “Do you want to be an OTW member? ($10 minimum donation)” with two radio buttons to select from with the choices of “Yes” or “No”]
We understand that many people may not be comfortable doing so or may be unable to and that is perfectly fine! You are under no obligation to spend any money and we do not want to pressure anyone into doing so. There are plenty other ways to get the word out to encourage others to vote as well as continue to show support for this issue.
Other ways to get involved:
When posting a new fanwork between now and August 14, add ‘Vote to End OTW Racism’ to your title and provide a link to the End OTW Racism blog in your top Author’s Note. Reminder: New fanworks participating in the action are always welcome to join our AO3 collection.
For those who may not be creating works or who use AO3 just for commenting/ kudosing, create a Pseud named Vote To End OTW Racism. AO3 will automatically append your default name at the end. So it would look like “Vote To End OTW Racism (Your Name)
Add a link back to this call to action on your profile page, for anyone clicking on your name to see.
Update your pfps/avatars/user icons across social media
Participate in the upcoming Board Meeting between now and the election (August 11-14). The next Board Meeting is scheduled for July 2 and we will post an explainer about how to participate soon!
Send a letter to the Board encouraging them to be more transparent and to better advertise their Board Meetings. (credit to Punk who allowed us to utilize their work for this template)
Submit questions during the Q&A period with the Board Nominees. (We will post about this closer to election time)
Follow us on Tumblr, Twitter or Dreamwidth as we will be reviewing Board Candidates through the lens of our goals and providing more information on how to be involved over the election period.

It has now been a little over 2 months since The Owl House ended. Tbh it feels like a lot more time has passed but anyway. Despite how badly i wanted to draw fanart for TOH after the finale came out, i was unable to due to how busy i was all spring. Two months later, i am now finally on summer vacation and i have all the time in the world. But my hyperfixation on TOH has already passed and i no longer have a strong driving force to make fanart like i used to. I love this show to bits and it has served me well, but i'm ready to part ways with it. However, some of you may know that i have a habit of scribbling in my notebooks (and sketchbook) during school hours, but many of these school doodles have not yet been posted. So, as my final tribute to The Owl House, here is a sketch dump of all the unposted TOH doodles i could find that i drew during class/at school. (Btw some of the following pics are flipped because my camera is dumb)

The real tragedy of lateral violence is we’re each other’s best advocates. Like I’m only mildly disabled but having to fight for basic accommodations has made me positively rabid about accessibility. Most people in my field don’t even use color blind safe palettes and meanwhile I’ve spent literal hours researching headings, alt text, ARIA tags, keyboard navigation, etc etc. Like I’m still learning to code and haven’t reached full WCAG compliance but at least I’m trying.
No that's it exactly.
It's only recently that my father has mobility needs- he's 70 so it was bound to happen eventually but he's also been deaf since he was 6. He can get in the door just fine but actually being able to use the services is another thing entirely. Then of course you add the intersection of him being a tall, broad black man with a big booming voice, no volume control, slurring and mispronouncing words, and unable/"unwilling" to follow commands and this goes from being inaccessible to outright hostile if he's mistaken for being drunk or high in public as a result of simply being deaf.
Now that he is getting older he also has had a double hip replacement and fell and broke the part of his pelvis that's still bone so he has a lot more trouble getting around. So take that description I just wrote and add "stumbling, halting, unnatural gait" and "sways in place when standing still".
We need to advocate for each other because at a moment's notice we can be in each other's shoes. We need to advocate for each other because for some of us this is life or death. We need to advocate for each other because we are always, always stronger together.
It's funny you should mention your field- I assume web/interface design/programming? That was my original career path before I switched tracks due to hating my clientele. Back in 2009 when I was still going to school for it, my professer was very strict about accessibility standards, requiring every single one of our projects to be up to the level suggested by W3C at the time. So in 2018 when the figurative whip was cracked and websites *had* to change, and all these companies whined and moaned about it, I had zero sympathy. Sorry but this had been suggested standard for nearly a decade so you can't say you didn't know your websites weren't accessible. There were even free engines you could run your source code through to make sure it would pass. Your website needs a complete overhaul and you're a company that's been around since at least 2009? Sounds like a you problem.

how to report blaze posts
copy the permalink of the blazed post
find a different post and choose to report it, and select "for something else" when asked why
MAKE SURE you don't block the op of the different post before proceeding (it's automatically selected)
select the appropriate reason
when you reach the screen that asks for detail on how it violates community guidelines, there is a field above it titled "content you're reporting" and the permalink to the other post
delete that permalink and replace it with that of the blazed post
proceed to report the post as usual, making sure to complete the captcha
hit submit and send it off!
i have been able to report blazed posts successfully this way based on the confirmation emails it generated. i haven't tested the efficacy, i.e. kept tabs on a post to see if it actually gets removed, just bc i've been busy with other things
you may find it easier to copy and paste the permalink on desktop than mobile. i found i was unable to paste anything into the "content you're reporting" field on mobile, so it may be best to use your mobile browser and use the desktop version for this purpose
edit: the original version of this post had 3 screenshots for demonstration i added the last tag via the old xkit extension, which did so via the old post editor and for some reason reversed the order of the screenshots. the images have been removed bc i can’t add alt text to in-line images on the old post editor, much less make them form a neat row

Accessibility
I’m Hard of Hearing and require captions in order to interact with any video/audio. Any videos or audio I post will always have captions.
Sometimes, I don’t have the ability to add alt text, image descriptions, and/or plain text versions of posts, feel free to go back and add them if you’re able to and see them needed. I have Low Vision, transient blindness and visual disturbances due to some of my conditions and often require IDs myself. I try to avoid reblogging images without IDs. I try to go back and add IDs when I’m able.
My blogs are photosensitive safe. I will never post flashing lights, jump scares, or April Fool's jokes/pranks on any of my blogs.
Occasionally I post sensory-enriched/dopamine-friendly versions of posts that I have previously posted.
Boundaries
I live in the United States so my posts at times are more specific to USA policies. However, in other countries many of the same restrictions, barriers, and systemic issues exist and I hope some of my posts can be a starting point to your own research about your local government policies and issues.
Inbox is open for mutuals, asks are open for anyone else.
I don’t have a specific DNI list for this blog. I just ask that people be respectful and engage in appropriate conversation about the topics I bring up. Threats and just generally being hateful (+ unwilling to hear other perspectives) will earn you a block. It’s okay if you’re not the most “politically correct” or are uneducated— caring intentions matters more to me.
Other Blogs:
Hellenic polytheistic worship/main: @fireandfennel
System blog: @oleandersystem
Additionally, here’s my website
And here’s my cripplepunk playlist to listen to while you scroll!
And if you’re interested in supporting me and my writing, here’s my wishlist. I am unable to work and have been fighting for SSI with a lawyer since 2017. I have zero income and live entirely off of government aid. Many items I need aren’t covered by insurance or charity programs. This is the only way I am able to receive outside assistance from others without my government assistance vouchers being taken away.

i really wish that people here on the 'accessibility is so so so important' website would figure out how to use alt text.
i know adding it is an additional barrier to posting, but i'm hard pressed to believe that 95% of people here are unable to ever clear that barrier. it's not that hard to add a brief description of the photo--imo anything is better than nothing, and for many pictures, brief is better than a ten-paragraph description.
i know for a long time tumblr was bad about supporting it, especially for photo posts, but they have pretty robust support since about when automattic took over, and it's a real fucking bummer to me that so few people have adopted it.
if you'd like to see alt text but you're not sure how:
on mobile: if an image has alt text, there's a little button that says alt in the lower left corner of the image. most do not.
on desktop: you can inspect image etc but tbh the modern web makes it a pain. xkit rewritten has a toggle that shows it underneath the image, though, which makes it very easy.

Context below if you're interested 🧡
This past year has been very very hard for me. I am physically disabled, I have chronic pain, and i have had numerous new health issues. And the last year alone I had to have 3 major surgeries on both of my hips. The surgery costs are insane, plus paying for the long hospital stays, all my different meds, my doctor appointments, etc etc... Basically it’s been a lot of medical payments. So I have been very limited physically, in a LOT of pain, crazy medical bills, and most importantly- unable to work for pretty much this whole year.
My future is very uncertain right now.. the person that has been my caretaker (and letting me live with them/helping with food costs) can no longer afford to take care of me or let me live with them. I have to move out as soon as possible. But as of now I have no where to go, no money, and no job, and severe physical limitations and pain. I have been in the process of applying for benefits but here it usually takes over a year to get it, if you're lucky.
So, I'd really appreciate if you'd share this or think of buying a commission!
Thank you for reading <3

Aw, gifts, yes!
Before posting begins, The Mods are here to give you a brief run-down of how to post, what to expect, and how to ensure that your recipient actually receives their gift.
Remember that everyone was assigned posting dates - your contribution may not be due the same day that your gift is, and that’s okay.  If you post your creation and don’t see your gift, please be patient - your creator may have requested a later date.  Similarly, if your gift appears early and yours isn’t done, that’s okay too, as long as you post on your assigned date.  By December 31st, everyone should have a gift posted and a gift received.
1. Please make sure that all works end up on AO3 in THIS YEAR’S collection: Winterhawk Wonderland 2023.  It is open and unmoderated, so if you just add your work to it, it will instantly appear! If you’re having trouble adding to the collection, email us with a link to the work ([email protected]), and we’ll take care of it! Not everyone participating in the exchange is on Tumblr, so if you don’t put it in the collection, your recipient may not see it.  If you have forgotten your recipient’s AO3 username, please message the blog or email us so that we can remind you of what it is. You must have an AO3 account to participate in the exchange and your gift must be posted to the AO3 Collection in order to be included in the Masterpost at the end of the event.
1b. If you are making visual art for the exchange and unsure of how to add it to AO3 here is a quick guide on how to embed images and how to add alt text to your image description for accessibility!
1c. If you create your work as a draft on AO3 before your posting date, please make sure to change the date of the work when you post it. Otherwise it will appear on whatever date you created the draft and might be missed!
2. If you choose to post your creation on Tumblr, please feel free to tag us! We love to see your work! There will be a Masterpost at the end of the event with every gift and its recipient! This year we will not be reblogging individual posts. In previous years some of the tagging didn’t work correctly and some works were missed by the Mods because of Tumblr glitching, which led to some hurt feelings and confusion. Additionally, both Mods lead very full lives, making constant monitoring of the tags during the busy posting season nearly impossible. In order avoid confusion, stress, and disappointment, we will collate all Gifts into one Masterpost after the event ends so that everyone can see who created what.
2b. Accessibility: If you are creating visual media, we are highly encouraging all participants to make this as accessible as possible by adding alt text or image descriptions. The Cooper Hewitt guidelines are a good resource for this, and here is a more step-by-step guide to formatting a description. This site is excellent for helping you decide how to describe your work! We know it might be a little intimidating to add this kind of information to artwork, especially if you have never done it before, but image descriptions make your work accessible to many fans who would otherwise be unable to enjoy it.
3. Again, if you’re having trouble meeting your deadline, please let us know so we can work with you as much as possible! Posting dates can be more flexible if you run into trouble or are having difficulties (we know the holidays can be tough!) Just message the blog or shoot us an email and we’ll do our best to help you out. If nothing else, we can let your recipient know their gift is temporarily lost in the post.
4. Finally, if you need to drop out for any reason - we won’t ask why! - please let us know as soon as possible.  We do have pinch hitters, but everyone works best with the most lead time they can manage.  We promise we won’t be mad, but we do want to make sure everyone who participates receives a gift, so it’s best for all of us if you reach out and let us know you just can’t participate.
Thanks again everyone, you’ve made this event an absolute blast, it has been so fun and easy to run and we really appreciate you all! We can’t wait to see all the great things that you create for this exchange, and thank you for sharing in the giving spirit! Happy Holidays if you celebrate any of them, and stay warm and/or cool and/or comfortably breezy if you don’t!

To anon who said "I’ve seen people who enjoy cute or lighthearted stuff being extremely cruel and racist.". I'd go a step further and say that, from personal experience, someone deliberately cultivating a cute fluffy uwu image and self-describing as sweet and wholesome has become a huge red flag to me. In every single case, that person ended up being full of extreme repressed bitterness and resentment, unable to navigate boundaries in a healthy way, and/or kind of a jerk.
--
I know real life cinnamon rolls. They don't tend to think of themselves that way, and they certainly don't tell other people they're that. To a person, they have loving families and good boundaries and a strong belief in making the world a better place through small personal action (cleaning up the park and that kind of thing, not being a lone vigilante who knows better than any rule-maker).
One of them used to work for Open Doors and while a fan of fluffy gen found families is nonetheless a hard worker with a profound sense of duty and so ended up doing all the imports on all of the most badwrong archives. Her descriptions of trying to add alt text to the "Pictures of Harry Potter and.. um..." never fail to make me howl with laughter even now. Tells you something that this fluffball hangs out with my friend group.
People who feel the need to tell you how wholesome they are generally aren't wholesome at all.

(Long post ahead, reposting a reblog I made and ended up deleting because OP was an anti. Placing a "keep reading" after the repost before getting into new info. Post is screenshot heavy, and such not compatible with screen readers. I do not have energy to transcribe alt text right now.)
So anyways, there are antis in the Pico's School fandom.
I love the ship picandra (Pico x Cassandra), it's super hot, but apparently there are antis shaming it. (What don't antis shame?)
Tumblr media
I'm not sharing OP's tags this time so it isn't as easy to find them. But the jist is that Pico isn't some pure hero, he's an anti hero. And it isn't canon that Pico has any trauma because of Cassandra. They express frustration with antis trying to demonize people who enjoy hero x villain ships.
This was my response before I deleted my post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd also like to add that antis, as well as this post, are focusing on whether or not this ship is problematic due to Pico being a victim being a victim of Cassandra attacking the school. Not once does anyone mention the fact that the characters are 10 years old in their source material and that "it would be disgusting to ship 10 year olds and imagine children dating and kissing when 10 year olds would be doing nothing more than holding hands." I bring this up because of how OP then went and behaved in the comments of their post. Throwing a huge fit when a proshipper tried to inform them of what proship means.
Blue is OP, light blue is whenever they replied directly to the proshipper they were arguing against (not me), and purplish white are buzzwords creating very serious accusations against proshippers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any further comments from OP on their post were missing too much context due to the other side of the conversation being deleted. And such won't be commented on.
It's horribly ironic that they went on about pedophilia and their hatred for underage ships, when this post originated from a ship consisting of two 10 year olds. And on top of that, if their argument on proshipping being bad is because the dynamics of problematic ships are harmful and affect reality, then sorry to say, in my opinion as a proshipper is that Picandra is a comship. Even if Pico wasn't traumatized by Cassandra's attack on the school, she still caused irreversible damage to his life. She killed all his classmates and teacher. She is an alien who used emotionally insecure goth kids to kill humanity with no regard to the lives of her allies. She canonically couldn't give a shit about Pico, let alone be interested in him. In turn, after the attack, Pico had become a serial killer hitman that is very aggressive and closed off emotionally. If these two were to engage in a relationship, it would be toxic and abusive as all hell on both ends. But I guess that's fine because it doesn't disgust you personally. So it can't possibly be morally corrupt or questionable.
I do not plan on making a habit out of indirectly replying to anti bullshit on this level. I've already made sure OP is blocked and thus unable to see this post. The existence of my rebuttal points are more for the sake of getting my own frustrations out, practice making points against a real example rather than a hypothetical strawman, as well as providing a source of positivity for other proshippers who have dealt with this or other antis like the one featured above.
If you manage to find OP, do not harass them, send them hate, or even send 'helpful information'. A person like this is not in the right mindset to learn, and such trying to rebut them any further will only cause unnecessary stress and may cause them to root themselves more into the anti mindset.

How can you put images on posts?
Adding images to your posts can make them more visually appealing and engaging for your readers, and they can also help to illustrate your points and make your content more digestible. There are a few different ways to add images to your posts, depending on the platform you're using.
Here are the general steps on how to put images on posts:
Prepare your image: Make sure that your image is the right size and format for your platform. For example, if you're adding an image to a blog post, you'll want to make sure that the image is not too large, as this can slow down your page load times. You can also use an image editing tool to resize or crop your image to the desired size.
Upload your image: Once you have prepared your image, you can upload it to your platform. This may be done by clicking on an "Upload" button or by dragging and dropping the image into the post editor.
Position your image: Once your image is uploaded, you can position it in your post. You can choose whether to have the image appear on the left, right, or center of the post, and you can also choose whether to have the image float alongside the text or be displayed in a full-width block.
Add a caption: Once your image is positioned, you can add a caption. This is a short description of the image that will help your readers to understand what it is. A good caption should be no more than a few sentences long and should be informative and engaging.
Add alt text: Alt text is a text description of the image that is used by search engines and screen readers. It is important to add alt text to your images so that people who are unable to see the image can still understand what it is.
Here are some specific instructions on how to add images to popular platforms:
WordPress:
To add an image to a WordPress post, click on the "Add Media" button in the post editor.
Select the image you want to upload from your computer.
Click the "Insert into post" button.
Position the image in your post.
Add a caption and alt text.
Facebook:
To add an image to a Facebook post, click on the "Photo/Video" button in the status update box.
Select the image you want to upload from your computer.
Add a caption.
Click the "Share" button.
Twitter:
To add an image to a Tweet, click on the "Image" button in the tweet composer.
Select the image you want to upload from your computer.
Add a caption.
Click the "Tweet" button.
Instagram:
To add an image to an Instagram post, open the Instagram app and tap on the "+" button.
Select the image you want to upload from your phone's photo library.
Edit the image as desired.
Add a caption and hashtags.
Tap the "Share" button.
If you found this answer helpful, please like and leave a comment. You can also follow me for more helpful tips and tricks.

introducing my published novel: the art of betrayal
Tumblr media
[ written by @unhingednovelist , self-published on amazon ]
There's a lot to talk about, and quite frankly, none of it is pretty.
genre // horror, mystery
setting // small-town new zealand and a second location that i cannot mention for spoiler reasons
[ a note about this: the idea of the story is that you are learning of new information as matthew, the protag, is learning of it too. you quite literally go into the novel headfirst knowing literally nothing. i can't even reveal any other names other than matthew's, because it's all spoilered. ]
features // alternative storytelling format, cosmic horror, a sprawling worldwide mystery, missing persons, many lgbtq+ characters, desperate attempts at finding the truth
main inspiration pieces //
house of leaves - mark z. danielewski (novel)
illuminae/gemina/obsidio - amie kaufman + jay kristoff (novel series)
dark (netflix series)
moodboard //
Tumblr media
playlist // 'the art of betrayal - a playlist'
content warnings // gore/injury details, unsettling imagery, hate crime mentions, medical gaslighting (i may miss some things but this is what comes to mind at the moment, please PLEASE let me know if there is anything else i need to add!)
other important information // unfortunately the novel is quite inaccessible regarding its visual content as many chapters are of scanned handwritten journal entries and other scanned media. because i have worked on this novel exclusively on my own, i was unable to make an accessible version at time of publishing. HOWEVER i am hoping that i will be able to change this sometime in the future!
[ hi yes! i know a great majority of these kinds of posts on tumblr are for wips, but i really feel like i must give a little attention to my first big project. a little backstory from me is that i started writing this concept when i was 15, and i published it at the start of this year! ]
[ i am also very new to writing alt text descriptions so if you think i should add more to my descriptions please let me know! ]
