I started this au a few months ago as a goof but actually really liked it! And I just saw the mario movie yesterday (it was great better than I expected and actually made me emotional in some parts lol) So I figured I would finally share this! Feel free to send me asks about this au bc I have a good amount of lore and I'm also still making some!

Basic summary: Yuuta and Yume take the place of Mario and Luigi and other twst characters are inhabitants of the Kingdom!

Since the Mario Lore/world is so expansive I'm really just doing whatever I like with this and making it my own.

I got a random AU idea. You know Super Mario and that one game Super Mario 3D world. And there were the sprixie princesses(and they were very adorable too). Well, make the dorm leaders be Sprixie princes or at least be capable in turning into one. Anyway they get kidnapped for some reason, first years(plus Jamil and any other twst cast willing to go after the kidnapped first years). Also since technically Ortho Idia’s brother and I made Idia a cute sprixie prince. Ortho one too right :D(aka he’s gonna be even more adorable and cute too), maybe one in training since he didn’t get kidnapped like the others(plus he’s automatic going anyway so :]). That aside, how does it all go :D.(PS it’s dorm leaders turn to get kidnapped[aka me referring to the castle of illusion AU you made :D])

hhhhhhhhh yea, twisted wonderland got me

i made some yuu ocs because i got bored

yume rosalia - the first one. i wanted to make a star based character and then threw them into twst and gave them lore. my only non-human yuu, i got inspire by herta's design in hsr. they have another form but i'm not showing it yet ;P. i made them come from the super mario galaxy universe as an evolved form of the luma because some of them evolved in a way to help out princess rosalina because they love her a lot and want to help her out.

yume asta - the idol. originally they were just created because i needed a yuu for my tsukasa gets isekai'd to twst au but i grew attached to her. she's minori's cousin and has been an idol for the past two years before being isekai'd. she's a totally normal, rule obeying student. yeah, totally. don't go looking for any hidden messages in their part.

silvester hatter - the one magic user. i like making characters based off of concepts and since the twst characters are based off of the disney villains, why not make one based off of a fantasy novel? i was originally gonna do xie lian but then i remembered howl's moving castle and decided to do sophie hatter instead. i based her look off of movie!sophie while her personality will probably be more book!sophie based.

yuu - the tired one. he is the most normal one in terms of life experiences. she definitely introduces the first years to pop culture from her world. they also know how to make their own clothes (sewing, crochet, knitting, etc.) and offer to make clothes for others as well. plushies included. they are not responsible if anyone gets hooked on anything they introduce from their world.

Idia 1000% gives off King Boo vibes! So thats the place holder he has in my au, but with lots of extra lore and stuff added. I have a little being lore written about how they met! Maybe I'll post it eventually!

If Vil is suppose to be Princess Peach then who would be Princess Daisy? Malleus with the Thorn Roses theme? Like instead of a desert it's a thorn covered forest like kingdom. Kinda similar to the forest from TTYD

Oh wait wait!! What if it's Kalim instead, to match with Daisy's color palette and upbeat attitude. He could be the Desert Prince. Since Sarasaland is more like an empire than a kingdom(seriously why is it called a kingdom) imagine if that's the reason why Jamil works for Kalim for this au.

I hadn't thought too much for Kalim bc we were focusing on others but that sounds like a cute fit for him! I def had the idea for a desert prince since thats always a key area in Paper Mario games, but I never thought of Daisy! Instead of a Daisy, I think another flower name would be cute as a nickname? Maybe a Marigold?

As for Malleus I haven't thought too much about him, but I have considered a couple ideas like there being a fae kingdom or him just being a literal dragon (since those are canon in the Mario verse too) One of my friends suggested the fae living on an island like the yoshi's but making it more western European themed with the thorns and fairies and castles!

The Thousand Year Door Paper Mario forest is one of my fav environments and that would be cool for inspiration!

Omg Azul as a giant Blooper or one of the giant octopi from galaxy/Odyssey. Since he's so shy of his octo form he uses a crown to hide it and you mostly see him in human form as a result.

The tweels as the eels from 64 😬. They may or may not also conceal their true from using a mini crown/badge and unlike Azul, would gladly show their true forms when the time is right

I 100% of course had the idea to make Azul a Blooper! I don't really see him having a crown but maybe some type of badge? I kinda have the idea of him being like a mob boss enemy in the story. The idea would be similar to Chapterr 3. Some of Yume's companions/party members get involved in one of his shady deals and Yume and Yuuta have to help get them out of it while also being sneaky and not letting Azul catch on. I imagine The twins would be his goons! Honestly, in a lot of the Mario games, sea creatures can come on land no problems (like Sushi from the 1st Paper Mario). So it wouldn't be so crazy to me for Azul to have his seaside mob boss casino level in my story and still just be walking around in full blooper form. (I do understand Azul has issues with his mer form but maybe that can be like a touchy silly character trait that he gets mad/embarrassed when people point it out.) The twins could be some form of eel. The beauty of the Mario-verse is that there are so many wild and insane creatures and lore that really you can do whatever you want. I don't feel beholden to go tit for tat and find exact characters/mobs in every mario game to assign someone too. I'm taking a lot of creative liberties with this and plan to change character designs more and more. So that's why I feel making the twins unique sea creatures would be fun too! Though I wouldn't mind keeping the eel aspects. Maybe when I have free time I can doodle some designs. The more I talk about it I like the idea of Azul in full Blooper form on his bottom half! Maybe the same for the twins! I like the idea of them in their full mer forms but on land.

Are all the OB boys royalty of some kind in the Mario Au? Well except for maybe Jamil unless he's a lesser prince who's working under the future King Marigold Kalim

ROYALTY AND OVERBLOT VICTIMS:

No not all the overblot boys are royalty. It just ended up that way in my mind with Riddle, Vil, Leona, Idia, and Kalim. Jamil and Azul just don't fit royal vibes for me personally. Honestly, Idia is only royalty in the very literal sense. I don't think he holds much if any political sway outside ghosts who were loyal to his family. "Ghost King" is kinda just a moniker, given by other people, he goes by now and the gem that increases his family's bloodline powers just happens to be in a crown. @bunnwich came up with the lore for the character leona/bowser is based off. But he's not technically real royalty either, "Beast King" and "King of Ashes" is just a name given to him by others. *SideNote: Me and @bunnwich are really doing whatever we want with this au so going forward we might even rename some characters. But I'll still refer to them with their actual names in canon here on my blog for the sake of no one getting confused.

LMAOOO Trey being the entire glorified "bomb squad" for Riddles Kingdom.

He just keeps casually putting it out with his finger while everyone around him is SWEATING and waiting for Riddle to blow lol.

Hm, I wonder what Trey would be. I imagine in Riddles Kingdom its not limited to to just Bomb Omb's. I could see him as a toad bc they usually have stilly names like Taste T.

Quick question for the Mario au. Are yoshis the only unchanged creatures? They do hatch from eggs and are ridable companions.

YOSHI'S AND OTHER CREATURES

Mmm it's not like other Mario creatures/races don't exist. Idia is a human with a boo form (you can see it in the original post), but there are still regular old boos. But Epel who I imagine is a toad, just looks mostly Human as well. I guess if you wanna be nitpicky you could say its "inspired by" the races. It's just how I present that form is different because of my art style. So a short answer: I imagine there still are yoshis, boos, koopas, bomb ombs, bloopers, cheep cheeps etc but there are also just versions of people who look different who are still part of that race. For example, the twins could be a subspecies of cheep cheeps and Azul could be a subspecies of bloopers but still have human torsos bc thats how I want to present them. Bowser himself is a type of koopa and he looks extremely different from the average ones, so I don't think its too crazy to imagine. So yes normal yoshi's could still exist, but Yoshi's aren't just mindless animals, they have their own communities. So if I wanted to make a character a subspecies of Yoshi I would.
