I have noticed more and more as the days go by how discouraged and awful I feel. Thinking this might be how many people felt that completely never thought Trump was capable before he was in office. Perhaps instead of Americans choosing between two political parties that are complete opposites we need a middle party that is closer to much of our ideals. Neither party truly represents me. I never believed Trump was the best person and I certainly never thought Biden was capable from before. Hello lovelies! . I dropped my ballot off at the city clerk office today. I did my duty and have the right to complain if things go in a way that is literally detrimental to my person. And the great thing about Maine's rank choice voting is that not only could I vote realistically, I could put a secondary vote towards my conscience. The second choice vote only counts if no one wins >50% of the first choice vote and that person was not in last place in the first choice. But I put my opinions out there. . I also had to google the alliance party. It's only two years old and is pretty much what you would expect to get if you asked a group of college-educated millenials (older than you think they are) how the government should work. Good and bad, like all parties. Whether I agree with them or not, I'll keep to myself. I brought them up because I hadn't heard of them before. . I do believe we need a reminder that there are other parties and the two we've been working within have been systematically screwing over the population as a whole for too long. But again, if you don't have rank-choice voting, I'm against voting outside for *this* election. Going through memories inside my head of the past presidential election, it made me think why would people scapegoat people because their candidate lost. Then I realized that this country uses the first-past-the-post voting system, which is when the candidate with the most votes wins even if the majority of the population voted for other candidates. This is how our two-party system came to be. From there more and more people became disinterested in our democracy which is how we ended up in our current political situation. I wondered why there isn't much discussion of changing our voting system but I came up with this.
