Thoughts on the discourse behind jurix/juripearl?

Honestly, I didn’t have a clue till a couple days ago.

I remember getting an Anon Ask about this creator before (similar to this question), but I left it unanswered because 1). I didn’t know anything about the situation, so I wasn’t about to start spreading false information on something I knew nothing about. 2). I’m on this app to write fanfiction, read fanfiction, and look at beautiful fanart. Not discourse.

However.

I decided to look into it, because of this ask. So without starting any fights over who supports that blog/who doesn’t, this is my view on it; they’re homophobic.

If they wanted to ship Levi Ackerman with female characters (i.e. Petra, Fem!Hange, female OCs, or self ship) that’s totally cool. Great! Good for you! I love me some good Fem!Hange x Levi fanart. But if that’s what they want to see/read/write/draw, then they should just do that.

Instead of bashing the LGBTQ+ community for shipping Erwin x Levi or literally any other male or non-binary characters with him.

I read through their page a little, and no I don’t know everything cause some posts have been taken down so I never saw them. But what I have seen is, in fact, homophobic. And I do not support that behavior.

If that creator doesn’t ship Levi with anyone other than females, that’s cool. Just look at the straight ships then. You don’t need to bash others because you prefer straight relationships.

While searching their page, (One of them apparently, I didn’t know they had more than one acc. I haven’t seen the other one yet) I saw a lot of things they contradicted themselves on just to justify their self proclaimed cannons for Levi and just to justify their homophobia. I’m sorry but their “facts” are wrong. And sometimes weird?? Help me??

But the facts are; We don’t know his sexual orientation. Supposedly he’d never been with someone.

Thus, this leaves the fandom to see it how we want to. It’s literally a fandom, we’re allowed to ship him with whomever we want or no one at all! Or even self ship! It’s all valid and okay and absolutely beautiful!!!

Bottom line here is; I don’t do discourse. I don’t do drama. But I’ll take a stand when homophobia like this is being spread around, cause I can’t stand that shit. It shouldn’t have a platform in which to stand. Ever. I’ll happily dismantle any stage that gets built to preach this bullshit.

Head empty just thoughts about book Ray and show Ray and the common thread that the entire community was hellbent on his fall.

Thinking about how both his parents are in jail for drugs and solicitation and how his brother is being actively framed for Dayna's show only hit and run . ( though the dialogue about his other hit and run is, uh, confusing. Because the show never states that he hit the other dead girl, just that he found her on the side of the road and then drove away from the dead body. The show immediately contradicts this once we get back to the cops saying that he was in jail for that hit and run, but both Luke and Ray's dialogue in several episodes state he was in jail for dealing. so. *le shoulder shrug*.)

The other thing that gets me since Book Ray is just...kind of there. he's a big dumb dog and is easily coaxed by Book Dodge into some very severe harassment and borderline murder. so we're just going to shove the one dimensional bully out of the window. if we don't write characters with the complexity they deserve, especially when you mention more harmful aspects of homelife ...just no. I'd rather book ray be mean because he's a stereotypical high school bully. I don't need to know anything else about him if that's the author's goal.

Also all his friends are the community's outcasts. we establish very quickly that this is a very religious community, especially since Jesus crucifixion ( not just the depiction of the cross) is literally everywhere. His established friends are the trans person, the lesbian, and the drug dealer. All of which the show handles with an air that you aren't supposed to root for them. they actually get tossed out of the show fairly quickly. Background watching them is literally my favorite thing about this trashfire, especially in the first challenge where Ray is yelling fatphobic insults at another player and you see our trans person tell him to stop. you can see Ray tell them sorry in response, but never apologizes to the person he was screaming at.

it's a little thing, but Ray does take care of his inner circle. and the fact that Luke is also welcoming to Ray's friends says a lot too.

Today was just absolutely shit. And I've vented and vented and vented to the point where I'm just too exhausted to repeat myself so I'll just put the screenshots here.

I do say there's nothing wrong with drawing Gay things and there never will be. But the bitch wants to act like we're influencing her foster children just because of our lifestyle. We haven't ONCE had a conversation with them about love and sexuality because we understand why we cannot do that in front of them.

Though our kids would definitely learn and understand it when we teach them I'm not going up your sad little emotionally neglected Christian children and saying "I love the same sex and you can too!" I'm not PUSHING them towards anything I'm not pushing them to live my life.

The 'worst' we've said is, when asked if we are a boy a girl was, "we're both" and they're like "how" and we said "some people just are" and I did NOT explain further than that. That's all we said. We didn't explain, we didn't elaborate and she's probably never going to remember it anyway she's 6.

Today was just fucking shit.

So the event of Nova fracturing her knee are similar in that she got hurt during cheer tryouts, a major difference is that the girls who ‘lost their grip’ actually did it on purpose due to rumors of Nova being gay having spread through school/town over the summer between 8th and 9th grade. While none of the girls were sure who would get on the team, none of them wanted to chance being on it with Nova. So they dropped her on purpose, and said it was an accident.

Nova has her suspicions that it was done on purpose, but she has no real proof. The funny thing is that none of the girls from her tryouts group went on to make the team, where as Jenna and some of the girls from her group did. Even so, since the event while Nova might occasionally admire a cheerleader from afar, she certainly wouldn’t ever trust one.*

Also, consider; Belos doom-scrolling online and seeing all the hate and vitriol he's exposing himself to, his mind reeling from the shock of it all. He's always felt himself an ally to those who didn't feel comfortable in their birth-deemed bodies, so the backlash he sees makes him sick.

He thought he was fighting for this for all those centuries? This fucking ungratefulness?

a couple months ago, i took a bit of a risk and played a show opening for a friend’s band, in a small city in a very conservative state in the south. my friend warned me that they didn’t know anything about the venue or the kind of people that would be there but i said fuck it and did it anyways.

so there i am, my extremely transgender self, standing in front of about 30 middle-class-brewery-bougie people, singing extremely transgender songs about religious trauma, trans joy, and self love, making a room full of people who had no idea who i am, empathize with my story, cry, and celebrate trans joy.

and during the show, i of course thank my incredible girlfriend for supporting me on my journey and helping me love myself. this is very important and very relevant to this story.

after im done, im thinking, fuck yeah this is awesome, i can’t believe that these very cis het people resonated with my music so much

when this older woman and her husband comes up to me and tells me how much they enjoyed hearing my story.

and then tell me that she is THE PASTORS WIFE AND HE’S THE HEAD PASTOR.

and THEN they tell me that their son is playing in the headlining band, and i realize that most of the people in the room are people FROM THAT CHURCH and i just sang my very transgender and anti-religious music to a room full of weirdly supportive christians.

and then they all proceed to tell me how much they enjoyed my music and then also tell me how awesome it is that my “friend” is so supportive and came to the show, when i literally said during the show that she’s my girlfriend.

you’ve heard of trans inclusive radical misogny, now introducing trans inclusive homophobia?

9/10 show, would not attempt again.
