Because I got a bad dose of the shadenfreude, I read through most of the comments on that blazed post where the person says she's going to unbox Tumblr store merch on Tumblr Live even though she says she knows Tumblr Live sucks and everyone hates it; and also she's spamming popular tags "because it's marketing", as if that means this form of mass harassment is mandatory and something she can't help; and also she defensively notes that she compulsively bought all the Tumblr merch during a manic episode, which is a pretty bad way to advertise for anything (and this is definitely an advertisement since she says Tumblr is promoting her/this), although she also put her psychiatric diagnosis in her user name so I guess she's just really into making mental illness her gimmick; and finally she suggests that everyone should be positive and supportive of this endeavor because of the constellation of minority demos to which she belongs. (I mean, it's fine to let people know when they're supporting a business/creator that's part of certain communities, but in the context of all this other pushy, manipulative nonsense, it's like...)

So naturally everyone is jumping up her ass for participating in Tumblr's terrible attempts to monetize and TikTokify itself, and they're telling her how Tumblr Live harvests crazy amounts of personal data, and they're yelling at her for making mental illness into a cute marketing hook, and they're pointing out that her paying the Tumblr Corporation to force her content on people who don't want to see it is not the same thing as supporting minority creators, and they're giving her shit for spamming up popular tags which will get her reported and also generally hated...but nobody is bringing up the nuttiest thing about this entire thing, which is the fact that, like, who the fuck needs to see an unboxing video of Tumblr merch? How could it possibly be worth anything to anyone to see somebody review cheapo sticker sheets, generic thermoses, logo hats, tote bags, and more (but not much more) of the most basic ass swag bag shit imaginable? The kind of stuff they should really be giving out For Free for the privilege of turning people into walking billboards? These are exactly the products that do not need this kind of investigation, I would *almost* watch this livestream just for the suspense of wondering what the hell she could possibly come up with to SAY about these things. It sounds like a nightmare to me, you'd have to be a genius to make this at all interesting or entertaining; hopefully she doesn't use up all her energy while she's replying to every single comment on the post all day long and plunging deeper into fights she can't possibly win (she tells someone, for instance, that glamorizing her BPD diagnosis and letting it drain her bank account is "better than slicing up (her) wrists like a Christmas ham", as if these are the only two options). This is just another experience that makes me extremely curious about how living online is being observed and analyzed by the psychiatric community.

I'm getting a weird number of highly formatted Tumblr blaze posts advertising their want for friends on Tumblr live :-) funny. Funny how two of them have explicitly mentioned unboxing Tumblr merch. Pretty funny how these feel like loop around to advertise your feature that maybe might not be totally chill with FTC advertisement disclosure rules. :-) but I'm sure it's all above board and these aren't influencers recruited by the live service (which is a whole cloth third party service Tumblr stitched into the site) and then paid to pay to promote posts about the live feature that 99.9% of the user base is ignoring.

Do You Tiktok?

Well, now we do too! We’ve actually had the account for ages, and we’ve batted around a lot of ideas for how to use it without implementing any of them, but now we’ve posted our first video there. Long-term, we hope to post there regularly; at the moment, if you use Tiktok and want to give us a follow, expect intermittent posts: unboxings, asks answered, slice-of-life, book gushing, readings, and of course ducks (always ducks!), that kind of thing.

Announcement: Livestream

With November arrivals wrapping up and the holiday season in full swing, I wanted to do something fun to de-stress after these past couple of weeks of craziness :D I've been thinking of trying out a casual livestream so I'll be hosting an Instagram Live this weekend for anyone that wants to come hang out!

Just an FYI, I'm pretty new to IG and I'm definitely not a natural entertainer/public speaker, so please, please don't set your expectations too high n__n;;; The plan is to show some of the On Hand goodies that I'll be listing for sale soon, maybe do some chitchat/informal Q&A and also touch on the upcoming charity auction. If there's time/interest, I can also try to do some quick unboxings of merch you guys are curious about!
