What do you think five and sloane interactions will be like post canon (assuming a happy ending)? I’m planning on writing one, but I don’t know if I have enough of a handle on her character to write it well, so itd be cool to see others’ thoughts on them

I am so sorry, but you will not find help on this from me. I have approximately zero thoughts about Sloane because I don't particularly like her as a character because I think she's badly written.

I like to stay positive here, I don't like to yuck anyone's yum, and I know lots of people really like Sloane! And I enjoy her! Genesis Rodriguez is beautiful and a very charming actress. Her lil romance with Luther is fun, I like their wedding for the moment it gives narratively in the face of the end of the world. But I just think she's a really weak character (in a writing sense), so I totally get you having trouble getting a handle on her to write more of her. That makes perfect sense to me.

I don't want to drag anything down, so I don't necessarily want to get into my actual rant against how they wrote Sloane, so, I'll just say this: I know there are lots of Sloane fans, some of you must follow me, so if one of you could, really nicely, come explain to me One Negative Character Trait she has, I would genuinely appreciate it. If there is one and I just missed it because I binged the season and haven't done a real rewatch, that's on me and I take back some of my dislike. This will also help me if I ever do write her. But like, does she have a negative character trait?

okay so i have SO many thoughts on tua s3 so more posts are on their way (this was gonna be one long post but we all know that i’m a wordy bitch and it just kept on getting longer and longer so i’ll do individual posts) but the overall verdict?  

the writers definitely bit off wayyyyyy more than they can chew.  i think that they were trying to learn from their past mistakes, and they did!  they just then went on to make new, entirely different mistakes.  overall, there was way too much going on, not enough examination of the material that they were actually putting out there, and ignoring characterization for pretty much everybody

The moment in umbrella academy where Luther is like “we should like?? Have a party or something?? I don’t just wanna brush past it because I love him??” And Diego is just like “for the love of- hey Viktor- Luther wants to make sure you feel loved. Do you feel loved?”

And viktor sorta shyly goes, “yeah. I do.”

I love it, it’s just so fucken accurate to the story line and not at all out of place and it felt so natural and good and aaaaaahhh god they really just handled Elliot’s transition so god damn well I’m cryin just a bit

I never thought I would see someone even close to me portrayed in a show I like and it wasn’t even a big deal-

The fact that the strife between Viktor and Alison didn’t have any impact on his transition- yeah, they did Alison dirty as fuck and that was worthy of criticism (because like seriously, they did Alison dirty with that characterization) but it didn’t have any impact on the trans plot line and I can’t thank them enough for that, at the very least

Do you think Gerard's comics are good? I haven't read all of them. I felt like the story doesn't really wrap up well and make sense good in the Killjoy comics or Umbrella Academy but maybe comics are just like that. Maybe they were imitating other writers I don't know about and I'm missing context. What are your thoughts

anon i am so deeply biased towards gerards comics but YES i do think theyre good! I think lots of the critiques are fair but i also think it leads to the fandom kind of underrating him as a comic author at times and dismissing the work out of hand. I especially see this for umbrella academy and to answer your other question yes i do think some of it is a matter of missing context! TUA was never...really made to be a popular and commercial comic? The satire and style are very inside baseball, mostly about x men, as well as later leaning more into a silver age style of both writing and illustration (which is why im soooo obsessed w hotel oblivion guys its so goood its so good i swear)

When it comes to other comic runs, I'd say killjoys comics tend to be the messiest but they are also deeply meaningful to me wnd natuonal anthem is so fucking gorgeous and interesting (controversial but im a natam ending defender even if i think the comic itself couldve used another issue or 2 to push the character writing more). I think gerard has one of the better doom patrol runs, Including milk wars i'd put it up there at maybe 3rd or 4th depending on how much i let personal bias into the equation. However doom patrol is also very Like That just as like a superhero group and can be kind of impenetrable if you arent down for genuinely bizarre and sometimes seemingly nonsensical writing, its kind of apart of the teams DNA as the "worlds strangest heroes". Milk wars is soso good and maybe one of my favorite Comic Things gerard has made/been involved with but its also best with looots of comic context bc its playing w both doom patrol history and the context of where DC as a company was during the time of its release. Its still relevant in many ways but probably feels impenetrable if you arent already into comics at least a bit.

Gerards style def isnt for everyone (and they do sometimes get bored and cheese the ending a bit though i defs tend to like them more than other ppl do) but i do think theyre extremely good at what rhey do and im soooo excited for paranoid gardens especially bc 1. gerard has always taken an extremely empathetic and nuanced and honest approach to writing about mental health and mental illnesses bith real and semi fictionalized and 2. the artist on board is an industry mainstay and has made some fucking incredible work! I didnt love the first issue cover dropped and was worried i wouldnt click w the artstyle but after properly checking out chris westons style im really excited!!!! gerard time

I don't know that I can really choose between my beloved sides, so I will just pick the one I think Serves The Most Cunt:

Tankhun Theerapanyakul, the man you are.

Listen, I want to establish that part of the reason I am giving this prestigious award of Favorite Side is because I think over the top, ridiculous characters are incredibly difficult to play well. I think it can be hard to take over the top characters seriously, and I think you toe a line between seeming like a bad actor or making your character a farce, and I think Tong did a phenomenal job balancing Tankhun so that he is ridiculous but in a way that feels grounded? And I like that Tankhun has levels to his energy and that he is capable of being serious, and observant, and be able to be taken seriously, which I think is rare for the comedic sides. At least out of Thailand.

6- Favorite Siblings

IT'S THE WEATHER BOYS!!!

Tai and Tien have such a great relationship, and their dynamic as siblings feels realistic. Tien and Tai love each other so much. They annoy the fuck out of each other. Tien is terrified when Tai ends up on that mountain, but his first response when Tai is rescued is to punch him. I love their dynamic so much, and I am so glad that we got them this year.

14- BL I Think is Underrated

WEDDING PLAN.

Not enough people watched this show and I am Upset. These boys were great, the lavendar wedding set up was smartly written, and this show by MAME was lacking in all of the things I routinely seeing people critique her work for.

Out of Korea though, I will say that I feel like not enough people have watched Sing My Crush.

Okay so we have Ultimate Kissing Scenes: Bad Buddy, Ep 5 and Old Fashion Cupcake, Ep 4.

So let's look at some other favorites.

Once again, I agree with @shortpplfedup it's I Feel You Linger in the Air

I loved the Episode 7 kiss in the rain so much, and objectively I think that is probably the best kiss in the show. But I want to shout out the scene in Episode 12 that leads in to the Saddest Fuck BL Has Ever Seen. Just because I think Tee made a lot of smart choices in how he conveyed sex scenes, especially The Oiling and the montage he had in Episode 12 over the panting breaths.

Otherwise, I am really desperately in love with Khan and Tua's first kiss in The Eclipse. I don't know why, there are a lot of really small kisses that I absolutely love, like the forehead kiss Uea gives King in Episode 6. But the Khan x Tua kiss was so small and exploratory, and cautious and I thought it was perfect.

Honestly probably that I’m too attached to my style and too sensitive about certain critiques. Which is why I’ll probably never want to write professionally because for me it’s more of an artistic expression

I think it’s good as long as it’s limited and you make sure it’s accurate and the reader knows what is going on anyway. My approach was that it should always be explained clearly later on or be an inconsequential fun little Easter egg for the reader to look up later

Oh my gosh. My first fic was Supernatural 🫣

where the shadow ends I think is my magnum opus at this point in my life. It’s novel length. It’s very emotional and important to me and really had a lot of real life feelings poured into it. It was so strangely woven into my life at the time I wrote it. It’s cathartic. It’s real. It’s a piece of my soul put on paper tbh. And that banner…oh my gosh. It was perfect and I’ll cherish it probably for the rest of my life

A runner up would be this multimedia fic I wrote during the pandemic and it was a fic told through a combo of text messages, pictures, videos, and chapter writing. I’m still v proud of it even though it’s very hard to share anywhere because of the format

luther- to me he’s like a cishet guy honestly. i still love the pride hc’s other people have, bc most of the time they’re really good. i just prefer this reading, espec. with sloane (QUEEN!!!!). i also don’t like the s1 era fics where everyone hated luther (almost entirely unjustified) so they would make him be a dick to klaus and stuff. like did he drink reggie’s kool aid? yes. but is he homophobic? no. i think a better example in a canonical kid fic of him saying mean things to klaus for plot would be like,, making fun of him for being a druggie or lazy, because that’s stuff that reginald would actually encourage him to say. rant over lmao that just has always bothered me.

diego- honestly this one is back and forth for me, between bisexual and straight. like him and lila being bi4bi is just too fucking amazing, but he does give off straight guy energy sometimes so i’ll put it at a bi-curious. he’s def an ally though, and i can imagine he would do his best to get over his fear of needles to help v with his t shots, or defend klaus from homophobic assholes. although i personally hc him as cis, the transmasc diego people have their fucking shit together because that HITS DIFFERENT. i think done right, it adds so much to his character in AU’s and stuff and it’s just rly cute!! but bisexual diego is a very fanon thing that i like to see.

allison- i think probably straight and cis once again. she seems very comfy and happy in her femininity and gender, and her with ray??? (sidenote almond as a ship name makes me lose it ITS SO CUTE). i think she’s always been a big ally to klaus. i can also see her as pan or bi, but pressured to appear as straight by the constant eyes on her since she was like ten. i mean not only was she the only girl, but also a black girl? she was 100% so insecure during her childhood because people were constantly critiquing her. so honestly i don’t think it would be too out of the ordinary to hc her as queer.

klaus- i mean, we all know this one. as far as i know he has been canonically (though not mentioned in show, more like an interview or something) pansexual and non-binary. if not then it’s VERY FANON. directly through the show, we see his attraction to men through dave and also his enjoyment of more feminine clothes and makeup and things like that. i hc him as genderqueer and just generally chilling out and not really caring too much about labels. like a “i’ll fuck you if you’re hot” kind of attitude.

five- now this one might get me some weirdness, but i don’t see five as a cishet man for my hc’ing purposes. a common fanon opinion is that he’s asexual, which i totally like. i also think he’s gay. i guess that would be homoromantic? and also agender. he said no. no. MEN. i think that any romantic hc that does not acknowledge delores is not doing it right, bc holy shit delores is so fucking important to the understanding of his character!!!!! i believe in the interpretation that delores is himself, but a separated part that he forced himself to view as a separate entity to survive the apocalypse. he kind of fucking tricked himself into loving himself, though unfortunately as many people have pointed out, he doesn’t see himself as capable of good. he doesn’t see that delores is him- he can’t. he was down bad though for his mannequin apocalypse wife okay??? they were in love fuck you???? idk sexuality is fluid. let this old man live his life. he’s so tired. also agender, i think they don’t like being called a boy (possibly childhood trauma, possibly gender) but still is okay with “old man”.

ben- he is the token cishet of the upper numbers trio ( 567 icons real and true ). the jennifer incident was heavily implied if not directly and canonically stated to be a romantic issue, and also him and jill!!!! yes it was weird but it was so cute. bring back umbrella ben istg idc about the themes you messed them up in s3 anyway. i would talk more about him BUT HE NEVER GOT ENOUGH FUCKING SCREENTIME EVER AND THE THEMES THE THEMES HIS CHARACTER THEY DIDN- gets shot

viktor- canonically transmasc, canonically a woman enjoyer, ten out of ten character. i love looking at s1 era fics where people would be like. there is no way this guy doesn’t like women. *lesbian headcanons*. and elliot page just slaying with the queer rep season after season. i think he/they pronouns for viktor is really good and i like it :)). also some people hc them as bi because of harold (or for weird reasons but we don’t talk about that-) but i think it’s more of a lesbian thing personally. now. don’t come after me i’m not looking for he/him lesbian discourse on my pride month fandom post. AND FURTHERMORE elliot page is a king and he doesn’t deserve in any way the crazy hate he gets for being trans. trans men are men, trans ppl are valid etc. that being said, i hc him as a he/they lesbian. RESPECTFULLY. i imagine there were a lot of complicated factors while he was coming out and realizing things about themself. i think the harold thing was wanting to be wanted and loved more that actually wanting or loving, and you know we all gotta have that spicy *heteronormativity* woohoo.

just read someone say in regards to TUA season 3 they "shoehorned in gender transition to accommodate Elliot Page's real life transition" which,,

First of all, did they watch the fucking season? It wasn't shoehorned or clumsy at all. It was simple. Viktor comes out, his family accepts him. They move on. Boom. Now Elliot can better connect with his character and it gives us more trans representation in a popular show. The second cis people can't relate to a piece of media/character they just can't grasp some things aren't meant for them!!!!

Second of all, people saying Elliot shouldn't have been allowed to change his character/that it ruined the show is just people hiding transphobic bullshit behind a "critique". (I've also seen people just straight up misgendering Elliot and saying transphobic shit without even trying to hide it)

It's like they would have preferred if Elliot still played Viktor as female despite his transition which a) wouldn't have worked and b) would have been extremely uncomfortable and dysphoric for Elliot. The showrunners did a great job and talked to Elliot about it. They did it in a really simple yet effective way. Anyone who says that Viktor/Elliot ruined this season are just ignorant and transphobic. Yeah sure you can say it wasn't a good season but don't blame it on him, asshole

Il fut un temps où on pouvait lire un autocollant « Ne nous fâchons pas »sur la glace arrière des autos. Une mention qui serait encore bien utile ! Récemment, un automobiliste irrité par une dangereuse manœuvre effectuée par un autre conducteur, sur une aire de stationnement, sortit son fusil et tua à bout portant l'autre chauffeur.

La Bible donne des conseils de sagesse :

« Ne t'irrite pas contre ceux qui font le mal [...] Ne t'irrite pas contre celui qui réussit dans ses voies, contre l'homme qui accomplit de mauvais desseins [...] Ne t'irrite pas, ce serait mal faire. » Psaumes 37 : 1 et 8-9.

Tout accès de colère, d'irritation, de fâcherie, de brouille, de mésentente ne doit pas avoir cours chez le vrai chrétien. Et si nous y avons cédé, demandons-en pardon à Dieu et à la personne contre laquelle nous nous sommes irrités.

La réconciliation et la paix que Dieu veut mettre en notre cœur sont à ce prix, comme ainsi que l'authenticité de notre témoignage chrétien.

sorry but i saw ur tags and im a comic nerd: the TUA comics have problematic elements, but the antisemitism discussed was all show original content. Hargreeves being a specifically reptilian alien/being involved in the jfk shooting at all, and the director woman speaking multiple languages including hebrew were the 2 elements ppl critiqued and both were added by the showrunner. Gway isnt flawless but in this case the anger got very misdirected bc a lot of people dont check out the comics due to them being Fucking Weird
