People say that love is a beautiful thing, right? Well…not all the time. Love isn’t what you see in story books, instead it’s nothing but pain. Like a dying flower during Winter. 

And that’s exactly what you felt…

Pain. 

Whenever you were near her, the love you had grew by the day. It all started from her cheering you up when you were little to you both becoming inseparable as the years went on. Your crush on the brunette formed during Middle School then it carried onto High School. Your heart filled with glee when you both found out you guys were going to U.A, the top hero school in all of Japan. You both were going to be a crime fighting duo! Though, the day she met Midoriya had shattered your heart. You saw how he acted around her, and her to him. 

At first you though that he was just one of those shy kids whose never been near a girl in his life when Uraraka caught him before he could fall face flat to the ground. You stood next to her as they both shared a small interaction, introducing yourself as well before leaving him to enter the building for the Enternece Exam. 

And from then on and forward, you saw how close they grew. How there were times where she would blush near him. How happy she was just by his mear presence. You weren’t going to lie, you were jealous. Jealous of them being so close to each other. Jealous of whenever someone asked her about the green head her face would glow pink. Jealous of how…she looked at him. You didn’t hate the guy! Not in the slightest! He’s smart, kind, brave, caring, determined and so much more. You felt inferior to him. 

You knew he liked Ochako, it wasn’t even difficult to point out. It was the same with her too, and you didn’t like it. It was as if every time you and the squad hanged out, your chest would burn just by seeing them side by side. You knew she wouldn’t leave you just because of some stupid crush on a guy she wouldn’t even admit to liking, right? 

That question would always plague your mind. Just even the thought of the girl would make you clutch your chest tightly. 

Knowing she’ll never like you the way you did…only made the pain grow.

“Hey [Surname]-Kun, you haven’t touched your food. Are you not feeling well?” You returned to reality, turning to see a concerned Momo and Tsuyu. You blushed in embarrassment, quickly picking up your chopsticks and stuffing some rice in your mouth. “I’m fine! Just spaced out is all.” You said with a mouth full. “Are you sure? *kero*, you look pale and you have bags under your eyes.” Observed the greenette, quite bluntly. 

“I’m fine Tsu, just tired you know? Training’s been rough lately and I couldn’t sleep.” You gave a weak smile before coughing slightly. ‘Not again’ “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” You got up and ran inside the building, not noticing that your best friend had gotten up to follow you. You continued to cough, your throat burning like fire. You entered the bathroom, locking the door and going into the stall. You crouched down and allowed your coughing fit to continue, blood and pink petals falling into the toilet. 

Tears began to brim from your eyes, your hand holding your throat. Once you finished throwing up, you tried to slow your heavy breathing. ‘Damnit. It’s getting harder to breathe, I’ll die by this rate’  The sound of knocking made you panic, soon a voice followed with it. “[Name], you okay?” It was muffled, but you were able to tell who it was. You quickly cleaned your mouth and the ring of the toilet before going to unlock the door to see a concerned Uraraka. 

“Hey Ochako! I’m fine.“ a nervous smile plastered your face as you looked at her. “You sure? You can tell me the truth [Nickname].” You waved your hands, “No, really I’m fine it’s just that I’m not feeling too great is all. I’m gonna head to Recovery Girl right now so don’t worry. BYE!” You ran before she could say anything else, disappearing when you made a left down the hallway.

She sighed before heading back outside to the lunch area, taking her seat next to Midoriya. “Is everything alright with them?” His voice was laced with concern, staring at his crush friend upon seeing her small frown. “They’re a little sick from what they told me, though I’m worried.” He placed his scarred hand on her shoulder, smiling . “They’ll be okay Uraraka.” He reassured her, making the brunette blush slightly. “Hope so.”

You knocked on the door to Recovery Girl’s office, taking in deep breaths. The door opened to reveal the old woman, her cane in hand. Once she saw that it was you, she allowed you in and told you to sit before closing the door. You did what you were told and grabbed a seat in a nearby chair with the elder sitting in her own across from you. “It’s growing, isn’t?” You nodded. “It hurts to even breathe…it’s been a few months and I already feel like I’m dying.” You covered your mouth as you coughed slightly, uncovering it to see the bloodied petals again. 

She sighed, grabbing and handing you a wipe to clean yourself. “I see, have you gone to the hospital?” You muttered a ‘yes’ while wiping your mouth and hand before tossing the wipe into the trash. “So you know that you have to make a choice fast, before it’s made for you.” You knew what she meant, but you still didn’t want to go through with it. You knew that you couldn’t force her to love you back. So the only thing left is…”I know.”

The elder looked at you with sympathy, knowing that this was difficult for you to decide. As well as to everyone else who has to suffer this disease. Yet you were so young, still working for your dream and had so much to live and see. She sighed silently, getting up from her chair to the cabinets to come back with a pill bottle. She gave it to you before sitting back down. “This will help slow down the flower’s growth. Just make sure to take one daily.” You pulled her into a hug, thanking her. The sound of the bell rang, signaling that lunch was over and class was starting. You bide your goodbye to the elder before leaving, placing the bottle in the pocket of your uniform blazer.

You made your way to class, making sure to make a trip to your locker for your books and taking a pill and a sip from the water fountain. You arrived right when Mr. Aizawa had entered the classroom, quickly heading to your seat and lessons began. Everything was going to be fine, just fine…right?

Everything wasn’t going fine. The pain had become unbearable, even with the pills it didn’t stop you from throwing up pink daisies. You’re surprised that you’re still alive, knowing that not people many with Hanahaki live this long when it’s reached its final stage. It got even worse when…Midoriya told Uraraka he liked her. You were there, listening in on their conversation when you thought it was your chance to confess. You were hidden of course, but you saw how over the moon she was. The way he had the courage to kiss her, to hold her. 

It didn’t take long before the class found out, declaring them the ‘Official 1-A Couple’ while you suffered. Maybe, it was best to let her go. That’s what people do when they love someone after all. You didn’t want to die nor get the flower removed, but you did it anyways. If it meant losing all memories of her, the love you had for her, then so be it. You were out of the hospital after a few weeks, finally going back to school and catching up on what you missed. You felt free, free from the binds of that painful love. 

but at what cost? The feelings and memories for and of the girl. After all, in that last bit of the letter you wrote her before going to the hospital for the surgery, tears fell from her eyes seeing the words ，“𝖫𝗈𝗏𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝗐𝖺𝗌 𝗉𝖺𝗂𝗇𝖿𝗎𝗅， 𝖻𝗎𝗍．．．𝖿𝗈𝗋𝗀𝖾𝗍𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝗂𝗌 𝖾𝗏𝖾𝗇 𝗆𝗈𝗋𝖾 𝗉𝖺𝗂𝗇𝖿𝗎𝗅𝗅 ．“ And from that, she found out what really was going on. Knowing she was to blame for your suffering.

On Bakugou and teamwork (aside from with Shouto and Deku): How do you feel about the whole "The Bakusquad is a made up fanon concept" thing? I can't disagree more, the obnoxious Bakugou ego stroking title aside, I think they have the only real high school besties dynamic in the show. Not only in their interactions with the ever embarrassed by, but no longer adverse to affection Bakugou, but also between each other, independent of him. Kirishima is obviously never up for debate, but the rest are. Despite HK saying he vibes with Sero (he flew him as a kite that one time too), Denki's repeated unchecked "Oi, Kacchan" (❤😭), and Mina, although naturally not as close as the boys would be to him, is generally in on being a menace to Bakugou's reluctance to enjoying things. I personally don't get the aversion to the idea that Bakugou managed to build multiple friendships before he managed to work out his Deku issues. Am I wrong here? Am I lost in the sauce of fluffy Bakusquad fics?

I think that the Bakusquad is definitely a thing and very important to Bakugou's development socially when instead of the middle school lackeys he had, he gets real pals who gravitate towards him not because of his cool quirk, but because of his other qualities, like tactical thinking, motivating energy, confidence, etc.

And I think through their own teasing way, they normalize for Bakugou to be part of the class, like he really wants to be. They give him the necessary "cover" by "forcing" him to wear the band T-shirt and the silly Xmas outfit.

I also agree that the friends Bakugou made for himself outside of Deku are important for his character.

But I also believe that the social groups in the class are not that rigid and other friendships exist. The Dekusquad with Iida, Shouto, Ochako, Tsu (and a bit looser, Mineta) is also definitely the thing, where Ochako & Tsu are clearly BFFs, and Shouto & Iida are very close even independently of Deku.

Momo & Jirou have been close since week 1, but Jirou also has her wider band group.

Tokoyami and Shoji have been close friends since the Forest arc.

So in a way, all of the class seems to have grown into a tightly-knit group.
