Currently suffering an ear infection and all I can think is how you said Vasco is prone to them. Does he get miserable and exhausted from the pain or is he more the type to get short tempered and cranky?

#I'd say a little bit of both but he tends to get more testy than dejected #because there aren't really any effective treatments for ear infections #he's gotten very careful about cleaning and maintaining his ears and trying to make sure they never stay moist for very long #and that has helped somewhat but he can't avoid them completely which frustrates him greatly #Vasco usually manages to react to adversities with prolonged and stubborn optimism #he generally takes setbacks as a challenge instead of a personal failure #but after his patience and good will finally run out he gets upset #he gets angry but usually in a constructive way and it gives him another boost of energy to attempt to fix things #Machete gets paralyzed by sadness but Vasco rarely does #he just doubles down #answered #werewolfteaparty #Vaschete lore #ear infections are terrible I hope you feel better soon

i am once again thinking about how fucked it is that sacrificing like half to three fourths of the ships/crews to save 3 people is considered a paragon option but sacrificing about 75% of your unit to defeat the enemy is renegade. why would sacrificing thousands of people to save 3 be considered “compassionate” or “heroic” while sacrificing 75% of your unit (which is 7-14 people apparently, so like 5-11 people) to ensure you won is considered “ruthless” or “apathetic”

(i know why. its bc the first mass effect game doesnt really seem to have a grip on what it wants its morality to be much more than blue= nice, good and red= bad, mean)

#mass effect #the later games get it better imo. i really like how they did it in 3 where often times the choices lead to the same thing #like choosing the renegade vs paragon option in the geth/quarian conflict. both save both races but both speeches feel right for the option #you know?#the ME wiki describes renegade as ‘ruthless’ and ‘apathetic’ which like. *throws hands in the air* I GUESS #like personally i dont think of renegade shep as apathetic based on the ruthless background but whatever. to each their own #didnt feel like saying this when i typed it bc i was trying to get something to my mom so that took priority but i said 50-75% of the troops #bc each asset is worth 90 (75 if council saved). thats maybe 1/3 lost but im increasing it bc its been AT LEAST 2 years since the battle and #we KNOW that they had a surge of people enlisting post to fight the geth. figure in more people enlisting right after earth was hit and i #figure that numbers somewhere between 50 and 75% lost. especially since i couldnt find an actual number anywhere #personally i think me3 starts 3. maybe 3.5 years after the battle bc 2 years dead + me2 + 6 months under house arrest

#ok ok so what im hoping for now is that i'll pass my course #and that im fine for the surgery and that the surgery turns out well without any bad side effects or complications #then i can start recovering nd hopefully gettin my health back #after a couple of months i can probably start going to the gym again #then i'll also apply for a loan and do the rest of my classes thru distance #it'll be a lot of work but if im feeling ok physically nd can eat nd work our then it'll be fine #as i start feeling better i'll try to reach out to my sisters and talk to them. i miss them sm and i cant keep it like this #after the first classes are done i'll apply for 4 more classes nd a loan just to buy myself some time #and then i'll keep working on my mental and physical health #after that i'll either try getting a job or applying to uni or a craft/work related education #i'll keep trying to put myself in waiting lists for appartments #idk i will just keep trying with life. for my mom.#even if everything feels so fkn dark nd hopeless nd scary nd nightmarish rn. i cant leave my mom i just cant.#but im rlly hoping the surgery will go ok bc .. idk how to handle a life w all of those complications that can arise after #so im just rlly rlly hoping. my grandma nd great grandma removed their gallbladders nd they were fine. so im hoping i'll be too

it's 2023 and i'm still bitter about how kuroshitsuji, a complex slow burn mystery manga, got absolutely massacred by its shitty semi-episodic shota/fujobait anime adaptation

#like yeah the manga could be a bit questionable in the earlier parts (cough corset scene cough comedic relief grelle + soma & agni cough)#but almost all of that got retconned once yana toboso was allowed to have more creative freedom over her work #(and her editor's interference is something we Know had a p drastic effect on the series bc it Literally Gave Us Grelle (toboso wanted to #have a female jack the ripper but her editor said that if she did then she would've had to be working w a man. so in response toboso #decided that madam red's partner in crime would be as effeminate as possible so grelle was created in the vein of buffalo bill and then #only in her next appearance a few arcs later when the book of murder arc was over and done with was she acknowledged to be a trans woman #not the best situation for girlie overall but the manga started treating her much better over time + she slayed)#but the anime was on a whole different level s1 Literally ended while teasing a kiss between a grown adult and a 12 year old #and then s2 just made up random bullshit including a brand new 14 year old to ship bait w adults #and it doesn't help that whenever the series comes up everyone in the surrounding area becomes 50x more susceptible to false info #(see: undertaker's real name being shared around on an image that's literally watermarked by a TUMBLR HEADCANONS BLOG)#so there's a p decent subset of ppl who believe it was originally meant to be a yaoi (rumor that began from the same hc blog)#or that yana toboso is a shotacon (pr.osh.ippers on twt made that one up to try and win arguments)#i want the series to get the fmab treatment w a shiny new anime made by some1 other than a-1 pictures #bc we've seen what happens when they try and adapt the arcs that came out after they committed to the random bullshit plots of s1-2 #in the form of the book of murder circus & atlantic ovas. which are excessively plain and just streamlined disconnected and heartless #renditions of the manga arcs which will make no sense to anyone who hasn't already read it. they're like ufotable's fate route ova but at #least that has higher production values and is somewhat visually interesting #romeo.txt

#personal #thoughts #🍬 post #vent post #this year has been one fucking thing after another and I'm burnt out and exhausted #actually it's not even one after another. they keep piling up and overlapping #like hi would you like to spend the whole year having your abandonment issues triggered and made worse constantly #would you like to go through medical trauma that leaves you with issues that cause you severe pain on a daily basis #while also making it so you literally can't go to get any of it fixed #because seeing any of the tools that would have to be used is enough of a trigger to cause issues regardless of the context you see them in #would you like to take a medication for a month that makes you constantly terrified that something's trying to kill you #and then when you stop taking it that goes away so you think it's gonna be fine but a month later you still have other side effects #and you're trying to navigate all these new symptoms and triggers while more and more stuff just piles up #so then every time it feels like you've made progress something else fucks you up and it feels like you're back to square one #and it's starting to feel like maybe you're the problem because why else would everything keep going this badly #even though so much of it is completely out of anyone's control and you're trying so hard to cope with it and get better #I'm so fucking exhausted and it feels like every attempt to fix any part of our situation goes to shit in some new unforeseen way #and every time I vent about any of it I feel like a burden for making anyone else deal with our problems even if they've said it's fine

wait hold on a ursa takes both zuko and azula away fic??? idk how anyone hasn’t done this concept but hella you’ve tapped into a concept that has to be explored at this point! making it zukka is also just the norm around here too.

ah im glad you like the sound of it! i refuse to believe im the first to think of that idea bc i dont think ive ever had an original thought but there's definitely a lack of ursa exploration in the fandom. the thing with this wip is that it's going to be so ginormous and so multi-faceted that it's actually really hard to explain the plot of? like ursa takes zuko and azula with her but ursa is so damaged by what she's been through and is too busy prioritising survival to be loving anymore and their life on the run is so brutal that zuko and azula - still only 9 and 11 years old which is a big reason of why their relationship is able to heal, bc they're still so young - really lean on each other to cope. initially it's a survival thing, but they grow to just genuinely get on well with and care deeply about each other. and one way they do that is that zuko starts telling azula stories! like the two of them become huge avatar nerds bc of these stories and actually i might just give you a snippet bc this is rlly hard to explain LMAO

Neither of them had any idea how to just be nice to each other, but Zuko wanted to be nice. He wanted Azula to be safe. He wanted to protect her. She was his little sister. She always had been, and she needed him. Now, more than ever.

“You know, Mother used to tell me about our great-grandfather.” Zuko said quietly into the shadows, a whisper to ensure Ursa, always so quick to anger these days, didn’t wake up. “You know he was Avatar Roku?”

For a while, it was painfully silent, to the point Zuko was certain Azula wouldn't respond. Then; “Of course I know. Some of us actually paid attention in our lessons.” Azula sniped, but she sounded a little too cutting, in a way she only sounded when she was unsure. She didn’t like it when she didn’t know what Zuko was leading to.

Zuko turned to face her direction, the cheap blanket scratching his chin and not covering all of his body. At eleven-years-old, Zuko was finally starting to grow into himself.

They were in a town on the outskirts of the Earth Kingdom, barely a speck on the map, and currently, their names were Riku and Aoi. Ursa has been very clear; her children were to never use their birthnames, no matter how alone they thought they were. They were living in a cottage with half a roof, their mother funding the rent by sewing patches onto dresses for a seamstress. She was barely in the house, but Zuko knew even when they left in a few day’s time – as they never stayed in one place longer than a week or two – he would still barely see Ursa. He wondered if she knew how reclusive she’d become.

“She told me stories about all the Avatars. I always wished she’d tell you them too.” Zuko said a little sadly. “I never understood why she didn’t.”

This silence was different, and they both knew Zuko wasn’t just talking about the stories.

“Tell me.” Azula breathed, so quiet Zuko almost missed it.

“The stories?” Zuko asked in surprise. He had been waiting for Azula to cut him down, to tell him to go away like she used to. But...

He realised maybe Azula wanted to be nice too. Maybe she was tired of being looked at like a monster by the people supposed to love her.

Maybe she was just a nine-year-old girl who needed a bedtime story every now and then.

“Yes, Zuko.” Azula hissed, and his name was so shocking it was like a curse. “The stories. Tell me about the Avatars.”

So, Zuko did.

“Water, earth, fire, air.” Zuko whispered, remembering how Mother told it. In the shadows, Azula’s eyes burned gold. “Long ago, the four nations lived together, but everything changed when the Fire Nation, the superior nation, began to share its wealth. The Hundred Year War began, and the only person able to stand in the Fire Nation’s way was the Avatar, master of all four elements. But when the world called for him, he fled...”

It became a tradition, after that. Zuko would lie beside his sister on the nights neither of them could sleep, and after an entire day of hiding himself, he’d turn to Azula and just talk. In Kyoshi Island, he told her of Avatar Kyoshi murdering Chin the Great. In Makapu village, he told her of Avatar Roku – Great-Grandfather Roku – battling a volcano. And in the Western Air Temple, he told her of the Avatar who never was.

“He’s out there somewhere, though.” Zuko uttered wondrously. “One-hundred-and-twelve, the last airbender. Can you imagine it?”

“You’re in your head too much.” Azula sighed. She always pretended not to care, but as the months dragged on, she allowed herself more. First, it was in her asking for a specific story. Then sometimes, she’d slip up and laugh. In the fragments of these nights handed over to ancient legends, as scraps of lies left behind in their wake with every new roof they found themselves beneath, Azula was more herself than ever. She could be, in front of her big brother. That was something she learned.

They learned other things, too. They learned that the Earth Kingdom was starving, that the Fire Nation was hated, that people weren’t rebelling; they were suffering. The story changed. When Zuko saw technological advancements that bewildered him in the Northern Air Temple, he stopped saying that the Fire Nation was the superior nation. When he saw children with burn scars and amputated limbs, he changed ‘began to share its wealth’ to ‘attacked.’ When the stories he told his little sister of the Avatar turned into a lifeline, a speck of hope in a world of ashes, ‘fled’ became ‘vanished.’

Zuko learned that a war was a war, that his father was not a hero by any means, that they got out just in time.

And it was hard, but the two had their own rebellions. Zuko and Azula didn’t get on in Caldera, but out here with a string of fake identities behind them and a death sentence at the end of it, they only had each other. Their mother was a wound, their father was a blade, and they were, through it all, still just kids. They leaned on each other in the places they used to bruise. Azula took the softness she tortured her brother over and began to protect it. Zuko took the coldness in his sister he used to despise and chased it away. When Azula drew the curtains and hid in cupboards to hold a flame in her palm and just breathe, Zuko made sure Ursa didn’t catch her. When Zuko lay beside Azula and talked to her until she finally fell asleep, Azula didn't push him away.

Azula, he whispered, and it was a promise that she could still be who she wanted to be.

Zuko, she breathed back, and it was a recognition that, through it all, she still saw him.

#the relevance of these avatar stories is that azula has heard them since she was nine years old #like it's a real theme in the fic that azula adapts to their life on the run a LOT easier than zuko and it's because she's #just the right side of too young when they run away that she forgets a lot of what life was like in the fire nation #her personality IS this new life whereas zuko still remembers a lot of their old life and is very haunted by it all #and hates all the lies and having to deny who he really is #and one thing azula builds her personality around - bc of her age - is the avatar thanks to these stories #she seriously hero-worships the avatar which is relevant bc two years after they ran away #zuko gets caught by soldiers and brought back to ozai... when he is thirteen... same age he was in the canon agni kai....#and ozai burns him same as canon to try get info bc ozai has a VENDETTA against ursa now and is determined to drag them all back #but zuko is actually really clever and LIES and says he has something better for ozai: he knows where the avatar is #so ozai sends zuko off at 13 to bring him the avatar! same as canon! and he sends iroh bc iroh has been clever and stayed ozai's ally #this whole time while working quietly with the white lotus to try and get ursa and the kids back #so ozai trusts him and sends him with zuko to spy on him effectively #so their three years together looking for the avatar is basically the exact same as in canon down to iroh trying to get through to zuko #AND MEANWHILE azula wants to find zuko but she doesnt know how until she hears that the avatar is back #her hero is alive and out there and if anyone can find her brother it'll be the avatar #so she joins the gaang! and zuko follows them and azula leaves him little clues and zuko puts off capturing aang bc he needs to get azula!#but they dont acc all unite until ba sing se and how do they do that? bc zuko starts blue spiriting and he meets sokka #so yeah. it's complicated. there's also a revolution in ba sing se that zukka started SKJHGKSJH it's all a mess #but we get protective big brother zuko and badass sokka and azula mummy issues exploration it's all so fun #ask #also i dont like the writing of this extract bc i wrote it literal YEARS ago like i started this wip before i did my fucking a-levels #so if the writing seems shitty that's my business

#diana's music diary #🌗#I never really slept so I'm trying to get some now #but I think things are getting better...#it seemed like it wouldn't but something clicked and now it is? we'll see...#I hope it stays this way.#I played tabletops with friends basically and that was kind of all I did last night #was mostly a combat session but it was very close.. couple of our characters almost died.... someone else's character had A Moment #something related to their backstory #it was cool and makes me excited for my character's upcoming stuff #I think I've been really enjoying playing them #they bounce off of other characters in a very fun way for me #after their job was done this session and they all went back to their work office my character used an item they have #that lets them roll a random effect.. and the random effect was them instantly dying (which makes them the first death ahaha)#it was really really funny that it was a silly joke item that did it #I'm glad it happened because it sort of balanced some of the heavy rp stuff that happened... they're okay too they're just a ghost for now #we didn't know how the revive mechanic worked until now so that's fun!#I'm excited for more...#now I will sleep #good night......

I've gone from insane about the pilot when it dropped and so so into it to mildly interested and kind of cringing at the actual first episode. 4 years's not a lot but I feel like I got old

#i'm talking about h@zbin h0tel btw. i refuse for this to appear in the tags this is a mutuals only post #like. i was sooo into the pilot in high school #and now it's uh. i can see the strings and there's a lot of them #by that i mean i see what they're trying to do and how they're trying to do it #instead of the techniques having the intended effect and being seamless #the swearing is.... a bit tedious. the singing was mych better in the pilot than it is in ep1 #i am also the one person on earth who doesn't like v@ggie's va i think?#her sound quality is Different and she sounds like a real person talking to a friend #which you'd think is good but actually it sounds Off for a show #also like the characters... cringe. this throws me back to when i thought this was the height of cool and it doesn't work for me #what gets me is it's pretty tied to its fanbase compared to what i usually engage with #like. it got big based on the fanbase and the reaction to the pilot is the vibe i get #and the fans are.... teenagers? who think this is the height of cool?#which. when i was like 15 i was so into this. but i am Not 15 Anymore.#and i don't want to be around 15yos who don't like the same things in media as me #man this makes me feel old and i was born after 9/11. like. i'm not old. i'm young!#but this makes me feel ancient. like i'm an old no-fun allowed cat lady #wow i have a ramble tag now

This is all to say that Thor was never Odin's first choice for anything, born as he was under Hela's shadow, born as he was to the purpose of replacing her, born as he was to the fact that Odin did not want her replaced in the first place and it was only bc Hela's ambition outstripped Odin's caution that he had to put her down

That is to say that Odin was always going to be disappointed in Thor, never mind the fact that he was also an anxious and sensitive child, who cried easily and was afraid of things like ghost stories and the dark. He was strongly built, bigger than his peers, and though he always won easily at sport and play, one could easily see how he held back.

(Hela never held back; Hela hurt her fellow children for sport and profit.)

And that's not even touching on the fact that he was always fussing after that Jotun foundling, tending to it and shielding it and mothering it.

By the time Thor met his father for the first time, face to face, he was 8 and Odin had already spent those years nursing his prejudices against him, and there was nothing Thor could do by then to make it up to him.

Anyway this is getting off topic, bc the thing I wanted to talk about is the fact that had Thor and Loki not been the unaccountably, inseparably, soul-bondedness kind of close as they were, they would have had to have been at each other's throats their whole lives. "There are no second princes on Asgard" is an adage that gets thrown around a lot (by me) and it means exactly that: had they not been the sort of unnatural closeness that they were, one of them would had to have killed the other in order to secure his place as heir. It is the way things are done; it is how things have to be.

(I think that this accounts for Thor's complete calm and acceptance when Loki sends the destroyer to Midgard after him in thor1. It has always been Loki's right to kill him in order to claim the throne; it has always his right to kill Loki if he'd ever thought it necessary. But he never did, and he never thought those old rights would have to be invoked between the two of them, but he's always known about them. They both have. It is simply the way things are)

#this is another meta i have in drafts and never finished but #when Odin took Loki it was Frigga who raised the loudest protest #yes it is all well and good for Odin to make all the dynastic plans he wants to make #but a) she doesn't want her son taking some jotun savage for a bride #b) even if she did what's to stop the both of them from growing up and hating each other #and c) the giants are supposedly matched at birth to their fated mates. what is Odin going to do to subvert the will of fate?#Odin of course takes the most literal and mechanical solution to the problem and physically beats their souls into one #so that they cannot be separated by anyone or anything - be that the will of fate or that of his wife #unfortunately this causes some unintended consequences #thor and loki literally cannot be separated #as babies they would scream until they made themselves sick unless they were put in the same crib #they had no interest in anything outside of one another and refused to engage with other stimuli #the only way frigga can wrest her son back from the effects of the soul bond is by magically sedating him for hours then days at a time #to try and acclimate them to being apart #it's better by the time they can walk and talk but then it's still difficult #there's less screaming and sick but now it's a deep-seated and constant anxiety #they ask for each other and then when it's made clear that they have to spend time apart they ask after each other #loki gets sick and thor is consumed with the possibility that they'll never see each other again #thor has to leave the allmother's garden with the other boys and loki forcibly changes his sex so that he can go with him #it's a lifetime of this even as one concession to growing up after another puts another measure of distance between them #i just need y'all to understand when i talk about how their unresolved feelings had ''deformed'' them its bc its 1000 years of this shit #internal thor tag #who's enjoying all this background meta for fic that doesn't even exist yet #odin worst-dad

The stuff with Will could’ve been handled a little better and I really don’t care about the stancy vs jancy nonsense, but aside from that I think vol 2 was good

#i cried like 4 times #season 4 altogether was way better than 3 #Ik ppl are upset about will and robin but nothing about how they were handled felt malicious #we were supposed to feel for them in those sad scenes #and it ended hopeful. i mean robin’s hitting it off with vickie and #well honestly idk about will and mike #but i feel like the fact that will’s the one who painted that painting for mike and sees mike as the heart could come up again #the fact that it’s will who feels that way not eleven #i mean. there’s still a whole other season. it’s not over til it’s over #both will and mike were sidelined this season so hopefully they’ll get some character attention in the next one #but really I’ve never cared for the romance in this show #it’s the friendship and family relationships that get me grinning and sobbing #I’m also so so glad max did not die. was eleven bringing her back somehow a little cheesy? yeah. but if max had died #after this whole season about her healing from her trauma and wanting to live again #i would’ve been crushed. would’ve soured the whole ending for me tbh #but she’s alive and I’m interested to see what they do with her in a coma #since eleven is trying to lead max out of that coma using her powers #ik ppl got real attached to eddie too but i thought his death was good and the private scene between dustin and mr munson was so much more #effective than if everyone had mourned/there’d been a funeral #it was so good i broke down crying #anyway. yeah i had a pretty great time watching this season
