I want to hear Billy Batson and/or Captain Marvel with a transatlantic accent! From what I've read it seems possible, Shazam was created in 1939 and the transatlantic accent ended after world war ii which was 1945. This means that it is entirely possible that the golden age Captain Marvel/Billy Batson could have had a transatlantic accent!
Imagine Billy with his Golden boy personality, iconic all American boy next door looks, and his transatlantic accent, like no matter what he does he comes off as adorable! He could burn someone's house down and all he would have to do is say "Oh, I'm terribly sorry! I didn't see that candle there." and he'd get away with it! Captain Marvel would probably give off the vibe of an alien who learned everything he knows about Earth from old Hollywood films!

I noticed that in fantasy fiction, there are two routes for writing character dialogue. One is to make people speak in a grandiose (sometimes even Shakespearean) way, with lots of dramatic literary terms and archaic medieval language peppered in. The other is to have them speak in a way similar to modern-day vernacular, usually with the implication that this is a "translation" of a fantasy language.
But why not have them speak in Transatlantic accents with 1920s slang? That would rule.

i find alastor's accent very interesting for a number of reasons. He has a transatlantic accent, which is a sort of cross between British and American accents, but even during the time when it was used, it wasn't natural; it was the accent used in television so that films would be palatable for both British and American audiences. This accent was probably chosen since it was popular during the time he was alive, but also since he was a radio show host, and would have used the exact same accent during his show. But it isn't a "real" accent, so it's very unlikely that it's his actual voice or accent. If he were to have an accent (aside from just a plain American accent), it would likely be southern, since he canonically grew up in New Orleans. But we never hear him use any voice besides his radio voice (yet). So my thought process at first was just "huh, that's a fun little detail, since he's from the 20's-30's and had a radio show, it makes sense for him to use a transatlantic accent!" But now I'm thinking it might go a little deeper than that. I've seen a lot of talk about how he might end up dropping his signature Creepy Smile, and a few theories about how it would be a sign of him being redeemed. I'm thinking his accent and smile might be connected in a way. I know it's a kind of a long shot, but i wouldn't be surprised if he drops the accent at the same time he drops the smile.

Fun fact: One of the only reasons I like harestar is because the person narrating the audio books gives him an accent similar to the transatlantic accent
(At least I remember him sounding similar. It's been a while since I've listened to the audio books so I could have remembered wrong)

Amy Walker - 21 Accents
This video is over a decade old and I can't testify to the quality of her non-English speaking accents, but the differentiation of the UK ones, American ones, and the Australian vs. New Zealand ones is great. The little riff she does about the trans-Atlantic accent always gets me:
"Oh hello, my name is Amy Walker and I'm an actress and a writer and a singer and a dancer and I was asked here today to give you an example of the trans-Atlantic accent I was trained in in 1945."

Okay, I’ve found out I have a new kink. And where to inquire about it except of tumblr? Please, American philologists or accent experts help me in this if you see this post! I really became interested in transatlantic or mid-Atlantic language. It sounds oh so sexy to me now, but there isn’t a lot of info about it just in google/YouTube whatever. All I could find out that it was popular on old radio programs and old cinema before the end of WWII and was created superficially just so the pronunciation sounds more clear. But what kind of an accent is in this video? It’s definitely filmed post this time and sounds almost the same to me?

Tho I’m not a native speaker, English is like my 4th language, so I’d appreciate any comments and any info anyone can have 😉
This is short clip about the transatlantic accent tho not extensive enough, unfortunately 🥲
