Hi. Update of random shit in case anyone cares.

The scary test I was stressed over in the fall when I was posting my last fic? It was the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) exam. Yes, I passed it. The designation requires a bachelor's degree, so I had to go back to school to finish my last 10 classes. Then I had to take 7 more classes that are pre-reqs for the exam. Then I spent probably 700 hours attempting to cram everything you could think of related to personal finance (my god, there is a metric shit ton) into my head. The designation also requires 5,000 hours of experience in the planning field (which I thankfully already had). By the time I passed the test, I was no longer proud of the accomplishment, just relieved to have it behind me.

Work was intensely busy in November and December. I got little reading and no writing done.

I have a WIP featuring the Darcy/Rumlow pairing that has been languishing on my computer since 2020. To be honest, I've mosty forgotten what the conflict driving the plot was going to be. I think I was trying to tie it into the events of Wandavision. Took place after the show and had Monica Rambeau and Darcy kinda sorta working together and trying to figure out what, if anything, crossing the barrier that Wanda had thrown up did to them. Of course, Rumlow is alive and scarred and back with the good guys. And also really annoyed that his recent gunshot wound stuck him on desk duty watching the nerds complete their physicals as part of employee onboarding. Darcy doesn't want to have gym class with Rumlow, and Rumlow doesn't want to be there either but he's also kinda into the sassy brunette who tried to sweet talk him into passing her without making her run a mile. In the chapter or two I did write, the banter between Darcy and Rumlow was so fun, so I'd love to go back to it and try to move it along.

I got sucked into reading Draco/Hermione fanfic recently. Blame those damn Snow edits from the latest Hunger Games movie. Guys, I have never read those books or seen the movies, but blonde Tom Blyth is looking like the fanfic Draco of my dreams. How dare. This rabbit hole led to me deciding I needed to write a Dramione piece. It's maybe 6 pages and has gone nowhere even though I have a vague idea of the plot. My muse is struggling.

I found my old folder of all the fic I wrote in the past 20 years. There are still a couple hockey fics I haven't posted to AO3. There are also Anita Blake fics (I was a hardcore Anita/Edward girlie) and Harry Potter fics (don't cancel me but I used to write Snape/Hermione; NO student/teacher stuff though). I think I have an old Doctor Who fic featuring Nine/Rose (yes, I'm a Nine girlie). And a very old Forgotten Realms fic that paired Catti-Brie up with Jarlaxle. Look, I don't know. It was ages ago. With the exception of the hockey fics, I do not think any of these are of the same quality I've posted on AO3, but I've been toying with the idea of trying to clean them up and posting them so more of my work is archived together instead of spread over various fan sites. Does anyone have any interest at all in reading this shit? Like, at all?

I decided 2024 is going to be my book binding era. I bound isthisselfcare's Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love a couple weeks ago. I did all the typesetting with the help of some macros. Printed it, folded the signatures (the booklets that comprise the book), sewed them together with waxed linen thread, glued the text block together with some mull, and used chip board and book cloth to make the case. It feels and looks like a book, y'all! I could do a better job with lining the signatures up when punching the holes for sewing and with the measurements on the case, but overall I am pretty proud of it. If anyone is interested, I can link a nice tutorial series on TT and/or post progress pictures I took during my book binding experiment. I have to say, it's exciting to have the ability to put my fav fanfics on my physical bookshelf.

Regarding Gwen not knowing what they liked or said. Remember this is Gwen that followed “Blake’s shirt” accounts 🤣 things fans thought were insider like fanfic. Tom deleted his twitter after TK20 tour campaign was a failure. How embarrassing was that the band members & theirs wives trying to online pressure her using fans and those radio interviews with “we all know whose the one that doesn’t want to play shows” you also see things people you followed liked.

I do think she had some idea. She unfollowed a few key accounts that were passive aggressive. She unfollowed the ND wives joint account after the ‘kids’ comment. And I’m not sure if she ever followed Eric Keyes but Tony, Tom, Adrian, Gabe, Stephen, Eric and Todd Stefani all follow him, still. I feel like she might hear what is being said. The ND guys weren’t hiding how they felt.

BTW, Eric Keyes account is worth checking out for amazing ND deep cuts. Gwen’s voice and singing style are insanely good. The original Don’t Speak and Ex-Girlfriend versions are out there, and some really great live performances “Where’s Your Lovin” is such a great unreleased ND song. And it’s cool to see early ND playing a 3am set at Disneyland on Grad Night in 1995.

It's just a silly stupid social media fic that I found really funny in 10th grade, and I actually think is still funny. I want my last eight chapters.

It's literally so wholesome and cute and family friendly, god I love this fic I have to go read it again I wish there was more.

I just for some reason could spend hours reading about their little house mission and the seeds and working on getting generators to the farm, god, the tension of the time ticking down gets me.

It's my fav thing ever, which is found family, and involves my two favorite things to see in a Top Gun fic; icemav adopting the dagger squad post mission, and also the Daggers being shocked and then pissed at Rooster when they discover Mav is married to Ice. Also Ice using sign is always a fucking bonus to me.

This fanfiction was last updated in 2015, but I only watched 2010 Spartacus in 2021 and that's what hurts most of all, huh? What a fantastic show. There would probably be a ton more nagron fics on here but I stopped reading unfinished fics from 2012 😔. Like genuinely though I've bled that fandom dry, I've read every single Barca/Pietros fic that exists.

This fic is still being updated, I believe it's just slow because each chapter is an epic. It's just really cool and you all should read it. It's a regency era Harry Potter fic which like, all the ships getting their own plot. Also love love Harry just, growing up rich and cool with his parents lol. I think the dialogue is super fun and I'm very invested in every characters plot so far.

It's so close though!!! I've read every boreo fanfiction that exists too, and for a bummer of a book, it's a bummer of a fandom as well lol. This fic (although it also manages to be a bummer), puts Theo in such a funny predicament that it combats enough of the bummer-ness that I just loved it. And just like almost every other boreo fic, it's stupidly well written.

Blake's 7 - I once described my relationship with Blake's 7 as like the one you might have with your first girlfriend. You came out together! You two were the first lesbians each of you had ever met; You share so many lesbian firsts together. You split up before you were even going to uni, you may not see each other very often now, but there's still that sweet, sweet, unforgettable first attachment. That was me for Blake's 7. The first show I ever wrote fanfic for. The first show for which I had a proper fannish obsession. The first show for which I ever spent three days weeping and writing obsessively after I was left in a state of misery and shock after the fourth season finale . I have a complete set of B7 DVDs sitting on the shelf above this computer. I haven't actually watched them but sometimes I offer them flowers.

2. Doctor Who. This was my very first convention - the Doctor Who 20th Anniversary Con at Longleat, Easter weekend 1983. My parents asked me what I'd like to do for Easter, and were more than a little startled when I told them, but they paid my train fare and my con membership and let me go and I had my very first experience of fandom standing in those queues. I have dipped into and out of Doctor Who since I first watched Tom Baker flaunt his ever so long scarf.

3. Star Trek: TOS - and the original four movies. I watched these without as much obsession, but - I read James Blish's novelisations, I still have a collection of the good Trek novels on my shelf, I once organised a group reading of the Price of the Phoenix at a slash con, I have written Spock/McCoy fanfic (it's the Mirror episode, mostly) and I have been to K/S cons. I quite like DS9 and ST:tng too - I've written fanfic for tng - but Star Trek before it needed a TOS label was the first fandom I got to share with friends in person, as opposed to friends I knew by post and fanzine and at cons.

4. Cagney & Lacey. I loved this show. So did my mum. This is the only fandom I ever shared with my mum, and we loved it the same way: two kick-ass women who were best friends and also the only two women cops in their precinct. I was not conscious enough of racial issues in the US at the time I was watching it to be conscious that the New York Cagney and Lacey moved in was very unexpectedly white at all times, but I'm afraid I would see it now. On the other hand, if anyone can point me at *good* recordings of the episodes I would love to watch them again - my mum had the complete set recorded on VHS tapes and, well, gone with the dinosaurs and my late mother's estate.

5. The Professionals. Such a British show. Written and aired well before the anti-drunk driving campaigns, Bodie and Doyle and Cowley drink to excess, show no signs of being drunk, and then drive fast cars and wave guns around after drinking to excess. I wrote Bodie/Cowley fanfic for it because at the time I discovered the fandom, it felt like every Bodie/Doyle story and then some had already been written (and were still being written) but also because I really adored the way Gordon Jackson and Lewis Collins interacted with each other. Cowley and Bodie were both ex-soldiers doing a secret-police job: Doyle was a former cop transferred to CI5: the best fanfiction written covered the brutality and the danger and the kind of personality that thrived on it. The political viewpoints expressed by Bodie, Cowley, and Doyle were so far from being mine that it felt reckless to write them, and I enjoyed that: but the background to the story - 1970s UK/London - was so close to my real life (1980s/1990s Scotland/SE England) that it felt sometimes impossibly easy to write.

6. House MD I had been vaguely aware that Hugh Laurie had moved to the US and was doing a show about a doctor in an American hospital and I was entirely uninterested - US doctor/hospital series (with ONE exception) had never appealed to me. And then I saw a poster, at the bus stop, on my way home. It is a rule that anything she see advertised on public transport is bad, but I looked at the unshaven and somehow agonised face of Hugh Laurie, whom I remembered well from quite other series, and I though: Okay, I'll give this a go, and I watched one episode - somewhere in the first season, I do not recall which one, oddly enough: and I was hooked. I never wrote much fanfic for it, but Greg House and his coterie of characters - Wilson, Cameron, Chase, Foreman, and Cuddy - and to a certain extent the later ducklings - were formidable ingredients for story telling. I own every season on DVD.

7. The West Wing. I have been a politics nerd for most of my life, and a friend who was aware of this tempted me into watching an early episode of TWW (it may even have been the pilot episode) by telling me it was a drama about politics - not so much about elections, but about the behind-the-scenes work that makes politics. I watched it from season one, and I own every season on DVD.

8. M*A*S*H I became obsessed with MASH in two phases - first one about twenty years ago, which sparked a period of about five years writing fanfic: and again, I'm not sure why, in lockdown - suddenly the characters walked back into my mind and I started writing MASH fanfic again. Okay the first one is LITERALLY just Queenie's song (I think). I've been listening to a buncha old music and when I heard this I thought-

"Tom Lehrer - I hold your hand in mine" I was listening to some of Tom Lehrer's music and MY GOODNESS I though of all the t̶o̶r̶t̶u̶r̶e̶ Loving marital affection that Caine is Giving to Pomni when I heard this-

Captures their whole 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 if that makes sense. Caine's weird twisted sense of love 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 rung through my head when I first heard this.

The whole song is about Fear and love sort of making a medley into a thrilling feeling of excitement! Like I love you but you terrify me but the fear is EXCITING! Made me think of Caine and Pomni's dynamic

"The Tiger Lillies - The Freaks"

This...𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 darn song is just the Freakshow au. Literally. It fits the au p e r f e c t and somebody with better skills than me 𝘕𝘌𝘌𝘋𝘚 to make an anamatic or animation meme ft the Freakshow au with this. ITS SO GOOD!

"Over the garden Wall - The Beast is out there"

Okay I have 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘵 to say about this one! Since over the garden wall and the Freakshow au have a lot of inspiration from similar time periods theres gonna be a few OtgW songs here! But Mainly it could be used in an animatic (maybe Ragatha warning Pomni about Caine?) But about how Caine uses them for entertainment and "Once their will begins to spoil" (aka go insane) "He'll turn you to a tree of oil" (Abstracting. Since abstracted people kind of look inky and dark like oil I thought this would be PERFECT!)

"The Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra - An unhealthy obsession"

𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯…Pomni and Caine. OKAY OKAY I KNOW BUT LISTEN. The songs about an obsessive and controlling stalker AND he brings up marriage 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘦 times. Like CMON! ITS LITERALLY JUST CAINE SINGIN' BOUT LIL POMNI I 𝘏𝘈𝘋 TOO!

"AJJ the band - Body terror song"

The song is about a lack autonomy and the fear that comes with having a body. Perfect for this lil AU!

"Teddy Hyde - Sex with a ghost"

It just made me think of sort of the 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 of Caine and Pomni being together. Also the line "When she gets playful with a steak knife" just made me think of TADC in general sooo.... IT MADE THIS LIST :D

"Caravan of Thieves - Eat you"

Yay more cannibalism woohoo 😎 But yes the style of the song and the lyrics fit 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 fit them! (Also sorry if it sounds like I'm just blabbering and repeating myself I'm not good at articulating my thoughts (o^o) But it very much fits the sort of edwardian/victorian stylings of The Freakshow (or at least it does in my head). Its kind of folk-ey sounding at least. The way the lyrics just so casually explains "yeah I'm gonna cook and eat ya and Its gonna be GREAT >:D" made me think of Caine quite a lot! Words that come to mind are Savor, enjoy, delicacy, and family dinner! (That's the best I can do because my brain goes BAM BAM and only random adjectives come out instead of fully formed sentences)

"Over the garden Wall - Old black train"

THis one I have less context for what this would relate too but it just felt sort of 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 to me y'know? The freakshow has a lot of Victorian / Edwardian inspirations so this fit very well in my head. Types Of Ships

The types of ships I have supported as a fan in my many fandoms. I can’t speak for every fan, but maybe one of these will relate to you. WARNING! This is gonna be long. You may disagree with some examples, if you do GET OVER IT. Also some ships may be from the same anime so mixed feeling alert incoming.

The Canon Ships

These are the ships that you shipped because they're canon. The creators and everyone behind the scenes guided you to supporting their choice. Rewarding you and every other fan with adorable and can’t help but love scenes. By time these ships become your OTP you’ll be pleading for them to finally become canon because you know it's going to happen, eventually.

When I first started getting into anime, I was only a fan of canon ships. I may have found other ships cute but because they weren't possible in canon I never thought about it with my imagination. Learned to get rid of that thinking quick, LOL!

The Gay Ships

I would love to say if they were a het couple I would still ship it, but it almost 100% possible its because there gay that I ship it. In a heteronormative society sometimes you just need a good old gay couple to hard core ship, whether there canon or not.

Oh oh! Me me me! For the Fanfic Ask Game: C, D for To love and let go, and E for Epilopteran Love ♡♡♡

What does it say about me that I actually had to look up what fic To love and let go was? 😅 I can't believe I've written so many fics now I can't remember them all anymore.

C: What character do you identify with most?

I think I identify more with the general theme of this fic rather than any specific characters. Because we've all had moments in our lives where we were about to do something we think is right (like Mobius and Loki) even though our heart tells us it's wrong, haven’t we? And we’ve all had a Sylvie who gave us a nudge in the right direction and helped us figure out that we should listen to our hearts. We've been everyone at some point in our lives, sometimes needing advice and sometimes giving it, and I hope whenever it was up to me to give it I did a good job.

D: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with To love and let go?

I don’t really make playlists for my fics and I rarely listen to specific songs while writing them. But I think one song that would fit Loki and the situation he thinks he’s in would be You Learn To Live Without from If/Then. It’s a song about moving on from someone, about learning how to navigate your life without them. The specific lyrics don’t matter – it’s more about this feeling of being reminded of this person all the time and trying not to let it get to you, trying not to let it show.

E: If you wrote a sequel to Lepidopteran Love, what would it be about?

Why do you remind me of this fic? 😂 I still think I went a little crazy with that prompt back then but oh well. If I ever wrote a sequel to it, I think I’d like to find a way to include Lauri and the baby. Maybe turn the Blake farm into a sanctuary for malfunctioning bots or something and make Laurie one of them. Leslie wound find her on accident in an abandoned building where she hid away with a human baby she found somewhere, left outside in a box, and bring them both to the farm. And then it sort of becomes a thing, bringing home bots that don't work quite right, and while Leslie and Tom bond over bringing home strays, Joe sits in the corner and just rolls his eyes at them fondly.

Z, W, and O!

Right away ♥ I’m still answering for this FanFic Ask Game!

Z: Major character death—do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can't tolerate? Oomph, very rarely, I have to say. Oddly enough, I think Tom Blake’s death is the one I’ve read about the most? And even then I have to be in a very specific mindset to be able to withstand the angst. I think the only time I’ve ever written the trope was in my fic, For the Chance to See You Again, and even then I didn’t exactly write about Tom’s death but rather about how his brother Joe had to deal with his grief while still at the front. A death I won’t tolerate...I’ve been staying far away from the canon compliant Avengers: Endgame fics tbh. Tony Stark was the first and only character I ever grieved in real life as if he was a real person, and I don’t like putting myself through those feelings again.

W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones? I prefer more specific ones if the prompts are a request from someone. If I’m writing a story that is meant to be a specific gift, then I want to have all the information to ensure I write what the reader is clearly expecting from me. I only like more general prompts if I’m participating in a fandom event and I can mix and match them however inspiration strikes.

O: How do you begin a story—with the plot, or the characters? The characters, definitely. The first thing I decide every single time I’m starting a new fic is my protagonist (that I then follow using the limited 3rd person point of view). Knowing who my protagonist is helps me come up with and organize the plot in a way that matches their personality and possible choices. I’ll very rarely start my brainstorm the other way around, choosing first the plot and then the characters. I usually only do it if I’m creating an AU out of a book or movie (so the plot is already established) or if I daydreamed a scenario while I was listening to music.
