I hope this isn't rude to ask, but can I ask why you ship jingfu? I don't have an issue with it but I am curious

this was my first post about jingfu!! its a little long but tldr, in chinese jing yuan's always calling her fu'qing which is lowkey an endearment, while fu xuan almost always uses formal personal pronouns w/ everyone else but never with him in their 3 main quest conversations
i also just really love the idea of these two immortals having run the luofu together for so long? beneath the superficial annoyance, there's an unspoken, unshakable trust, born from centuries of partnership. you can't call them friends, because they've long surpassed that, but they aren't your typical lovers either? and can you even call them lovers if they never address what's between them?
i also think there's a lot of suppression of feelings here because they're two of the six charioteers, they have a duty to the luofu, they can't afford to compromise themselves like that especially since they're such powerful figures. people would probably start wondering if the general has favoritism or something like that.
plus, in war, fu xuan cant afford to be selfish—what if she foresees two victories, one bought by half their army's deaths, and one bought by the general's? she has to remain rational. she has to keep thinking of the luofu's needs above her own
im just in love with these characters and their century-long situationship, just slowly simmering for hundreds of years. their orbits are so intertwined that when one enters a room, the other half-turns on instinct, magnetized to their presence. silly and childish on the surface, but when you look closer there is just so much to mine from their canon and implied interactions
i also love how they can be jing yuan and fu xuan around each other. fu xuan, of course, knows well enough how the dozing general, while slightly based in truth, is still a carefully kept-up facade. she knows that beneath all that, he's still one of the sharpest persons around. and around jing yuan, fu xuan is freer, more unrestrained. she throws childish insults at him, stamps his foot. first: the fact that she feels comfortable doing that with him, unfazed by all his authority. and second: the fact that she doesn't have to be the master diviner around him, only fu xuan, bright and fiery.
...and of course! they're just really fucking funny! fu xuan is such a little hater and it's hilarious watching jing yuan keep teasing her, i find it so cute when she gets mad over the petty things he does hehe ❣️

I just finished Adastra and I am about to make that everyone's problem

This isn't a liveblog, since I already finished the game, but it's a pretty similarly scattered collection of my thoughts while playing so there's no real narrative cohesion to this post. If u were looking for a detailed review just watch the video by Boringkeith
I think the biggest thing about the game to me is how insane the plot gets at Act 2. Act 1, while admittedly kind of dull, does a great job at setting up characterization and tension over time, introducing motivations and worldbuilding in a really natural way. The way the author handles the delivery of information is just. Fucking fantastic if I'm being honest, and the conversations-- ESPECIALLY arguments-- just feel so natural. There's a great tension and release that the game has, and it's a really gripping story. I think writers like this shine in this medium because God. GOD. the dialogue is good. Then Act 2 happens and shit hits the fan and does not STOP hitting the fan until the poor thing is bowled over and unplugged from the wall. Genuinely unhinged, the pacing is breakneck and it is GOOD
The protagonist actually being their own person was also fantastic, and honestly one of the only ways I can see this story going. Despite inevitably being a romance VN with intertwined political drama, I never really felt myself occupying the protagonist (Marco)'s role too much, and this is for the better. Ultimately, Amicus (the love interest) is perfect for Marco, but not for me. Neferu is hotter anyway. But Marco? Amicus??? Those two dumbasses are made for each other. Plus, the actual codified personality of the protagonist allowed for a great deal of information to be presented and withheld in ways that wouldn't be allowed by a blank slate protagonist. The dynamics wouldn't have worked as well either, and I think the story is all the more engaging for it. I, personally, would have been more lenient on Alexios but Marco? He wants that twink OBLITERATED
Cassius is the funniest character in this game I think. He just reeks of like. Loser redpilled 17 year old projecting all his insecurities into the incel takes imaginable. I'm going to wring him out like a wet paper towel. Yes he's a borderline space fascist but I can fix him I swear. When he hotboxes and trips so hard he sees God, only to have God call him a cringefail loser and he starts crying about it? Yeah that's babygirl material. Pathetic beast
It is very funny to me that the game has to spend 80% of its runtime trying to convince you that Amicus would make a good emperor and explicitly has rules in place to say that females can't rule because you KNOW within 15 seconds of her opening her mouth that Virginia is the un-debatable best choice. The fact that Amicus doesn't immediately give up his throne for her is his biggest flaw
Cato is kinda one note but he is supposed to represent heternormativity and the pitfalls of bigotry in this giant scifi queer allegory so he gets a pass. I'll admit I found him to be a lil too mustache twirling snarky towards the climax, but eh. Also I'm dead convinced that the parents meddled with him. He started freaking out when his visor got taken off and acted more erratically now that he lost his parental tech (hm) and also him crashing the parents' ship was totally out of line with his motives even as mentioned by other characters. The parents def manipulated him I can feel it
The Parents are sus as fuck I will stand by this. The game really makes you want to choose the option of trusting them (and I did bc I just want Marco and Amicus to be happy) but like. Fuck man. They mad shifty I don't trust like that they got some other shit going on. BoringKeith says more than I ever could about it just watch his video
For personal reasons I am furious about them not showing the ram civilization. We know about four of the civilizations (greek cats, roman wolves, egyptian jackals, and indian tigers) but like. What about the rest? Based on the little we've gotten it looks like the bears are norse and there are rams but I don't even remember the other two. What are they I want to see them
My only mark against this game is that both of the disabled characters are evil. I don't think there are any non-villainous disabled people which kinda blows. I heard Echo is better about it which is good? but even still it left a sour taste in my mouth
The art? is really good??????? I love the expressions and the way the CGs look especially. Fucking fantastic
The themes of homophobia in this game are ROUGH and really really raw. Again not gonna talk about it much here watch the boringkeith video but Woof. This game is so good I highly recommend

josuke is a million trillion times better for yasuho (not just bc of how joshu is a fucking freak and is absolutely the worst i would run him over with a dump truck)
i really like how they both r so happy around each other but i think my favorite scene w them is when yasuho has to explain to josuke that hes crying and hes just like :') yeah
but they have so so many cute moments and the ending makes them the only couple to make it out of this list
i love how yasuho is just like willing to drop anything to help him and how they help each other out a lot during the whole time (if im remembering right?)
their dynamic is just 2 sweethearts
also love the moment that hes like look away yasuho :) then proceeds to beat a man up
they r canon (as is everyone else sorry <3)
i dont read a lot of part 8 fic since i need to reread it to properly understand the plot post like chapter 65? so i dont have any recs or complaints
BUT i do have a few hcs!!
i think yasuho would get josuke matching phone straps or phone cases
and when they move in together, i think they would raise sugar gliders (or potentially kidnap squirrels from the local park)
i love all of yasuho and josukes interactions but oh man every time that josukes past gets brought up i do start bawling
they both mean the world to me and how their romance is just built on such a clear foundation of trust and care it makes me so soft
they both give off such dog ppl energy tho and i love that for them
ALSO ok the way that yasuho helps josuke w his memory and is always there for him
i will never ever ever get over them
but i think one of my favorite scenes is the one right at the beginning where she gives josuke his name and how that plays into the rest of the story with him discovering his identity but still clinging to the one that she gave him since it was him, he wasnt just kira or josefumi he was josuke

I have a feeling your ask box and I are going to be familiar. You might be hot-taked out after that killer Satomi discourse. But whenever you’ve got it in you, I’d sure love to hear what you think about Kira and her Jeff-deemed-absolutely-necessary departure.
Oh, definitely. And I do love content, so...
Kira Yukimura was done so dirty by the writers and Jeffrey “I’m not racist I’ll prove it by arguing to poc calling me out for it on twitter” Davis. Her treatment was racist, tokenizing, and it wasn’t even high-brow racism. It was sloppy and lazy. If you’re gonna write all your characters of color off the show, commit to it. She went to the desert like 5 times before she stayed. Cowards.
Kira was only meant to be on the show for the Nogitsune storyline in 3b. However, fans liked her so much that, as with Theo in season 6, she was brought back for more episodes. The difference is that Cody Christian is white-passing and male and Arden Cho is not. Female characters don’t exist on Teen Wolf without a relationship to a male character. Hayden existed for Liam. Tracy existed for Theo. Melissa existed for Scott and Argent. Allison existed for Scott. Lydia, the female character with the most screentime of all of them, spent a lot of her time existing in relationship to Jackson, Stiles, Parrish (shudder), and other male main characters. Women on the show were reduced to love interests and mothers more often than not, and Kira was the same.
I loved her character. I loved her arc. I loved Arden Cho, who in real life is as sweet and kind as her character. I enjoyed her parents, both Noshiko, who’s surprisingly funny and a total badass, and Ken, who’s the most wholesome man in the universe. The only straight man we stan. I love him.
Anyways, Kira was getting a fun arc outside of being Scott’s girlfriend, with her parents and her powers and all, and then wham, white-passing boy shows up and no more main character status for Kira. Guess there wasn’t enough room to keep the only interesting plot line of all the ones happening in s5. Personally, I would have chosen Kira over the Marrish garbage fire of underage relationships, but that’s just me.
Then. The Skinwalkers. I could write a whole essay about them, but this is a Kira post, so I’ll limit it to her. At least Luther got sent to the moon for a reason. Kira got sent to the desert for “rEaSoNs”. There was no indication that her power was out of control, but every indication it wasn’t. She was growing and learning. Then, suddenly, she was “too powerful” so she had to go to the desert and disappear for a few episodes and then go back and forth for a while before they wrapped up sending Theo to the upside down or wherever he went and she could finally go... hang out with the people who we were told could help her control her power but who only threw spears at her and gave her a season finale ex machina. Then back to the desert with you!
You can tell something was going on backstage in her treatment. Arden Cho wasn’t informed she was being cut, she had to be told by fans. Her departure was carried out as swiftly as possible, and not for any real reason. Kira would have been tremendously helpful against the hunters and in a lot of later scenes, against the Ghost Riders (and let me remind everyone that KIRA WAS THE ONE WHO TOLD LYDIA ABOUT THE WILD HUNT), against pretty much anything. Immune to electrocution? Don’t help with the hunters who love electrocuting people. Sloppy writing through and through.
And what’s more is that Kira was cut just in time for the Scalia thing, which was so fucking rushed oh my GOD nothing has ever been less natural- this is a Kira post, calm down capsicle. Anyways, Kira got replaced as Scott’s love interest and not much else by a white girl, no hate on Malia or Shelley but much on the writers. I loved Malia and Kira’s friendship, and if anyone should have gotten with Malia, it should have been Kira. (The first time I saw Malia I wondered if we were getting another ambiguously brown character, actually, but no, just Georgian and well-tanned. But I bet not all my followers knew Tracy was played by a Chinese and Cherokee actor. Or that Nolan was played by a Mexican and Caxcan actor. Or that Theo was played by a Penobscot Native actor. The list goes on of white-passing POC who got to stay marginally longer than Black or brown characters.) The “Scott ends up with a white girl he has no chemistry with” threw me for many loops, especially after I was surprised to find myself liking Scira, even though I’m usually bored by straight relationships because of their one-sided focus and nonexistent chemistry. Kira got to be a character outside of Scott, and I liked their romance better for it, and then desert for a thousand years!
TLDR on the canon end of things is that Kira and Arden were done dirty by a group of powerful white men who wanted to tell a cishet white story.
Now, on the fandom end of things, I’m stepping into the real hot water. It’s safe to say that Kira’s story was sloppy and Arden didn’t deserve that ending, but it’s less safe to say that this fandom doesn’t treat her that well either. Here’s the most popular x Scott ships on Ao3, under the Teen Wolf tag with no other filters.

Scott and Allison. Scott and Stiles. Scott and Isaac. Then Scott and Kira, in dead last. Scott and Malia don’t even make the top ships list, probably because of how rushed and sloppy it was, but I digress.
People love Scott and Allison a lot, and I get that. I liked her too. I was also sad when she died. But, unlike a lot of sentiment I see in this fandom, I don’t think she should have been brought back to fight the beast in season 5 and get back with Scott. Not only do I think bringing characters back to life without very good reason and explanation (which they wouldn’t have, come on) cheapens their death, and that bringing characters back to life is weak storytelling in general, but let’s recall that Scira is still a thing in season 5. They’re still madly in love when Kira leaves. Allison should not have come back and love-triangled so Kira could be written off for a different white girl or so the massive amount of young white girls in the fandom who love Allison would be angry at Kira for breaking up their OTP. That would have been the one thing that could have made season 5 worse. (Well, they could have made Marrish a thing or killed Mason, but Jeff Davis thought about it and a shiver went down his spine because the ghost of Christmas future hears my name in its nightmares.)
Even if people aren’t “bring Allison back” campers, they largely ignore Kira’s entire existence. People who post gifsets and posts about Allison or Lydia don’t give anywhere near the same amount of attention to Kira. I see more Malia posts, actually. And while all of them had more runtime than Kira, none of them paired with Scott quite as perfectly, or had such strong independent storylines. Lydia almost did, but it kept petering out and she kept going back to main plot only. I see lots of appreciation posts for Allison and Lydia and Malia and the men, obviously, but NOTHING for Kira or Arden Cho. We all know what happened backstage because we read the same post in 2016 or whenever and then we all stopped talking about it.
Even the racism in this fandom skips Kira. Scott antis, I’m looking (controversially) at you. I’m glad Kira isn’t the subject of a bunch of obvious racism (as much as “bring Allison back!” makes it subtle), but not because she’s a forgotten side character. Kira made the main credit sequence! She has a sword! What else could you all POSSIBLY want?
And here’s where I burn at the stake: Kira was written off her own damn “look Fun Japanese mythology” storyline half the time so it could center around Stiles. A white boy. There were numerous issues with the mythology before that — “Oni” means demon, not “firefly samurai ninja”, and it refers to a similar mythology as the western “fae”, a large collection of creatures benevolent, malevolent, and in between, with different traits and origins. Kitsunes are meant to be red or white, not gold, and they’re foxes, not cats, animation team. “Nogitsune” refers to the malevolent class of “low” Kitsune, or “wild” Kitsune, who didn’t align themselves with the goddess Inari and do divine and pious work. There are many of them and the most they really do is harass people at shrines, not murder indiscriminately for funsies. They’re only malevolent in that they like doing bad deeds, not that they’re serial killers. And they’re not one of the usual 13 low Kitsune, two of which are bad of their own accord! (Spirit and Air. Google it!) They are meant to be dealt with by Inari-aligned high Kitsune, not your average tricky fox. Among other things.
So Stiles. Outside of the Kira storyline, he’s used in a lot of fandom discourse about racism and sexism. And queerbaiting. Y’all love a scrawny white boy. Anyways, Stiles gets possessed by the Nogitsune (that’s NOT how that works but okay Jeffrey) and suddenly s3 is about him. Kira’s not evil, now let’s look at Stiles being tired and messy and killing people. Dylan #1 did a great job playing that part, no hate on him, but the fact that a white boy became the main character in a Japanese (or Korean, if you’re Jeff, same thing) girl’s storyline is. Hmm. How do you call it? Blatant racism. And erasure. Which is racism. YIKES, Jeff. There is so much wrong with Stiles being the Nogitsune and controlling the Oni and his whole story (and oh my god the other guy who got possessed was also a white boy instead of a Japanese character played by the same actress Jesus fucking Christ). I’m not going into that, because that’s its own essay.
Anyways, because of how much this fandom loves Stiles, it’s easy to ignore how Kira and Japanese characters were treated. People project onto Stiles with glee. He’s white. He’s awkward. He’s (supposedly) not super attractive. (Yikes.) He’s ditzy and bouncy and all that fun stuff, but he also always saves the day. He got written off for most of 6b and he still saved the stupid day. And hey, dark!Stiles (let’s not get into calling him dark instead of Nogitsune that’s just too much wine we’d have to crack open to say it) is a fun trope and people like posting and creating about him. Except that he’s the white boy who took Kira’s storyline. Her independent story about Kitsune and the like was all given over to him, not just by the show, but by the fandom. So now every post about Kitsune is a Stiles post, even if it started with Kira. And because it’s Stiles, and this fandom loves him, and is easily offended by people leaning too hard on the glass house around them and him, Kira gets forgotten and swept aside. Everyone would rather talk about Stiles. Who is incapable of bad. Or cultural appropriation. But if you attack him you’re being ableist because he has ADHD. This is why I relate to Nolan for anxiety feels instead.
TLDR on the fandom end, y’all don’t treat Kira better than the show did. I see a few posts here and there from some dedicated users — typically the same people posting about Boyd, Deaton, Morrell, yeah that’s it I’m the only one posting about Kali. (Un-fun fact: Kali was not played by an Indian actor, but by a half-Black actor. Jeff Davis, when called out on twitter, said “wow ok idiots we tried to find an Indian actress but it was hard actually SUPER hard so shut up and stop telling me how to write MY show”, which is paraphrasing with intent to make fun, but exactly what he said.) Y’all who know about Arden and Kira should diversify your blogs to include more POC, especially ones where the actor AND character were rudely sidelined for vague white people reasons. Post gifs of Kira along with Allison, Lydia, and Malia. Post ship stuff of Scira too. Post about kitsunes, the origin story of the Nogitsune, when you post about the white boy who became the main character of that arc. Call the show out. Call the fandom out. Stop making every bit and piece of her story about Czechoslovakia White Boy. Demand Kira in any future runs of the show, if season 7 or whatever does happen. Include her in your fanfictions, in your headcanons, in your art. You don’t have to love her, but you have to remember that she’s as there as any of the white characters are.
This take is very hot. If I receive racist asks and/or messages about this, I’m going to make fun of each and every sender.

well take a guess. its sam and max....the reason i think sam and max are so charming and like. they just drag people in is because individually theyre great characters but theyre definitely better together, very much a set piece (do not separate) and i feel like in a mainly comedy series that sam and max is its easy to write best friend characters who kind of miss the mark of “these characters are BELIEVEABLE as best friends” like...ok i need to give credit to brain waves where they are due what triggered this line of thought was listening to dear dimwitty (a ducktales podcast hosted by two friends of mine its great btw you should listen to it) and monty (one of the hosts) was talking about how he enjoys it when characters laugh at each other (his examples were a bit in the dt episode they were discussing where dewey i think laughed at a joke louie told in the bg of a scene, and also the crew in star trek....i dont remember which one it was the one with data and geordi i think and he just talked about how its nice to watch because you can really feel like the crew are really friends with eachother through small details in the show like how they have a game night and thigns like that)! like in sitcom series like friends those guys..are not even friends..which is fine the characters dont have to be deep and have fleshed out relationships in a sitcom but just for an example...ive gone on a bit of a tangent but all that talk while i was listening made me go “hey!! thats why i like sam and max!!” (you see? all that talking was related to my point and not just advertising my friends podcast) even though comedy is the main factor in the sam and max series what really ties it all together is the relationship between the two titular characters...and i truly truly believe sam and max wouldnt be nearly as good and funny as it is if sam and max werent written so well as two  individuals who genuinely and whole heartedly care about each other. Theyre best friends and theres no question about it! and its not even written in a way where in chapter one a narrator has to say “this is a story about two best friends” you just have to fuckin LOOK at them for a minute to see, and their office especially which is usually the starting place for each series (its where we first meet sam and max in both the cartoon and games and i BELIEVE the comics...somewhere in the real early ones?) Like they have photos of themselves and eachother plastered all over the walls, they have family photos and pictures of themselves together as children, you see maxs doodles everywhere in the office, he scratched his name into sams desk, its a very LIVED IN if not NASTY space that tells you right away “ok these guys have known eachother for years”, dialogue really helps push this too (now im mostly referencing the games) like sam commenting “i bought this punching bag for max.”, “hey max whered you put this”, “hey max did you feed hubert”, etc etc, when looking at the photos they reminisce, their banter with eachother is just. VERY believable as best friends talking. especially when its sprinkled in with dialogue of them just casually chatting. Most of the time when you talk to max he just says something funny or gives a hint or whatever but sometimes theres dialogue where they just talk to eachother and its like “oh no punchline. they just wanted to chat. ok <3″ and its just very sweet. the “whats your favorite color max?” “orange!” “hey mine too! after all these years theres still so much we dont know about eachother :)” dialogue comes to mind...it made me smile...I think whats also sweet is that sam and max are very OPENLY affectionate with eachother! Sam calls max cute a LOT theyre very touchy feely with eachother, sam is constantly holding onto or touching max, max compliments sam a lot...they tease eachother and max clocks sam to wake him up every morning and sam loves to throw him out the window but well. thats how they show affection <3 also how when sam and max are separated theyre so blatantly miserable and especially sam is super overly worried about max every time something happens to him LOL and i think THESE moments hit all the better because of their well written friendship! its why the rare serious moment in sam and max works and doesnt feel out of place. its because you already know so hard that sam and max love eachother (and like, only each other theyre pretty self centered and dont give much of a fuck about anyone else) so like you as the viewer will be like “oh no! max got kidnapped again! sam is gonna be worried sick!!” and then he is. Because the public already knows how much they care about each other...its not a secret...you cant hide it....i KNOW you care the max

I've never seen an episode of supernatural all I see is what's on your blog and each and every day I become more confused about the writing of the show and why people enjoy it :l
okay well first off i am SO sorry you have to see me like this jknbuvgyuhjn i cannot believe im spnblogging in 2020 like im 15 again but things happen i guess.
second of all, the thing to know about supernatural is.... i think, for general audiences, it is an average-to-good show. it's not Bad. It's not Beloved and/or Acclaimed. objectively, i think is also probably the most balanced view of the show and is also probably what the cw and/or people who worked on the show see it as. it lasted 15 years because it consistently pulled in reliable numbers for the cw and grabbed a lot of demographics. like i know the tumblr bubble skews perceptions but, people of all ages, genders, sexualities watched and enjoyed supernatural, yes even to the very end. most people are also not looking at supernatural with the hyperfocused lens that tumblr is and that’s like... okay. those fans aren’t any less relevant or important. if only tumblr was watching supernatural, i promise it would’ve been cancelled like at least 7 years ago.
the spn *fandom* is interesting because like one, no one is watching the same fucking show. like we all watched the same episodes but like this fandom cant even agree on like...basic facets of canon, let alone digging into complex meta. people’s views of characters actions and motivations skew wildly. things one side of the fandom considers nearly canon are like essentially viewed as ooc on other sides of the fandom. you love and hate all the characters and everyone is always about to start swinging on everyone else. you have to simultaneously juggle the ideas that the writers — and for the record this show has had four showrunners and like a billion individual writers who all see and interpret it slightly differently — are brilliant and the writers legitimately are both stupid and bad at their jobs. you have to turn your brain off in terms of continuity because they retcon their own lore every 15 seconds. this isn’t even getting into the ship wars, the boundary crossing, the weird invasiveness , etc., etc., etc. supernatural’s writing is sometimes incredible, sometimes terrible, but generally pretty average, but it had a charm (ESPECIALLY IN SEASONS 1-3) that reeled you in, even if you hated the genre.
when a show is on this long, i think the fans (rightly so) will look back and dig in and get nitpicky on things they wish were covered with more care. things that the show obviously did not decide to write with the intention of addressing/grappling with later on. case in point: dean’s drinking habits. with the exception of like... season 7 where they DO address it, dean drinks a lot as a feature of his character with little to no consequence. he doesn’t get drunk. he’s always driving. it might as well be water. the writers don’t intend for that to be more than just a facet of what makes him a rough and tough action hero even though logically, he should be drunk all the time. even w/ interviews w/ the cast/crew, it’s clear the writers don’t think the fans will care and/or notice a lot of things. they do, because well, they’re invested. the fandom extrapolates because that’s what fandom does, but i really don’t think the writers connect those dots because dean’s drinking /isn’t/ a problem until they need it to be. because spn has gone on so long, it has more instances of things like this than other shows, and our cultural contexts have also evolved a lot along the way from 2005 to 2020. so again, there’s a lot to work with. i don’t really think that’s so much a reflection of the quality of the show than it is a reflection of how long it’s been on and the way society has changed since then. dean not knowing what myspace is is funny for two completely different reasons in 2005 and in 2020, for example.
my own personal opinion is, there’s a lot to enjoy about supernatural. seasons 1-5 are legitimately good tv. for all their flaws, they have a very clear aesthetic and tell a story that is well-structured and relatively coherent in terms of themes and continuity. they set up complex characters and relationships and everyone’s motivations make sense and that arc wraps on a tragic but ultimately narratively consistent and thus fulfilling point. of course, there’s stuff i personally like and dislike but separating my emotions from it, it’s very good. i think if anything, i would recommend anyone watch those five seasons and then decide whether they want to continue or not. if you don’t, you’ll end on a note that feels complete. it’s what i’m doing w/ my friend elaine, currently, actually. if she decides she wants to continue after 5, we’ll do that, but for now we’re just vibing in season 1. after that point, i think if you decide you care enough about the characters to push through wildly inconsistent writing, there’s stuff to enjoy in seasons 6-15, but the quality and particularly the consistency dips and this is also where the retconning really starts to...intensify. it’s also where the mythos of supernatural grows bigger than the show itself, which i think was always supernatural’s downfall. the crew started caring more about the whims of the fandom and frankly the fandom became more of the story than the show, and that’s how you get people piecing together what supernatural is based on out of context gifsets that skew perceptions wildly and get Supernatural Fandom™ which... frankly, in my opinion, changed fandom culture as a whole for the worse, like yes it’s a huge, powerful and often memeable behemoth but also... the way it changed creator-fan interactions is something we’re going to be unpacking for a long time. i think had the writers tuned out fandom wars and internet yelling and strived to tell a story that made sense and was well constructed to /them/, we wouldn’t be here and seasons 6-15 could’ve found a way to be as beloved as the first third of the show. i’m personally of the opinion that being a fan of something, for better or for worse, does not entitle you to part of it’s creative process. it doesn’t become a collaboration, and the door is always there if you get to the point where you want to leave. i think supernatural getting too caught up in its own fandom and balancing all these conflicting interests is ultimately what made the last 10 seasons, and particularly the back third of the show oftentimes flounder. the finale chaos, in my opinion, happened because they tried to please everyone by keeping too many things vague so people would have room to play in their own sandboxes and round out the story the way they wanted to see it and thus ultimately, a lot of things were left in the air and so for many people, the closure they were hoping for just wasn’t there.
i dont know how this became a long and scattered collection of thoughts but tldr, people enjoy supernatural because at the end of the day, it’s an enjoyable show and i think the more you stew in a fandom bubble, there’s more to get worked up about. which is fine. i like that fandom engages in complex conversations that the show won’t grapple with, but that’s not for everyone and i don’t think the fact that we have these conversations is necessarily an indictment of the show’s overall quality.

I’m in a Playlist Mood
I was scrolling through my dark matter tag looking for something I made a while ago to reference in the next chapter of Carry Me Home and ran across my last playlist explanation post. It put me in the mood to think about this again, and I’ve added...a lot. The playlist might’ve actually doubled in length since then (Thank You Abyss) and I’ve moved some stuff around in order. So, more playlist meta under the cut (it’s LONG)
So first thing: I’ve actually created two new playlists (well, one new one and actually made the third playlist have more than two tracks) since that post jhadsfljd. Working forwards in time (kinda), we have:
Dark Matter: The Road to Ruin
The Road to Ruin is the Main Playlist, the thing I use to write to, the thing I lie in bed and listen to to think up new things, and half the thing that keeps the timeline in place (it’s actually more updated than World Anvil rn whoops). Here we have overarching plot hooks, character development, and the story of six Paladins and their friends trying to save the universe.
Turn the Lights Out I sort of explained in the last post and I can’t think of too much more to add. The TLDR is it’s about the Lions (and, well, technically [REDACTED] too....) and sort of why I refer to a fully-melded Lion-Paladin duo as Spirits.

Remnants of Stars is again about Galran philosophy and the actual process of the quintessence nurseries filtering quintessence back into the universe. But the bit about giving in to know the truth becomes important much, MUCH later.

Your World Will Fail, Dark Matter, and Eater of Worlds are about [REDACTED], about what happens between that instant between the first plank time and the next. They’re an overarching theme, but also the event that everything else builds from, whether that be interpreted as the beginning of the universe or the Voltron comet crashing into Daibazaal.

Apocalypse 1992 is actually the main story of Through Apocalypse Skies, although its framing story is shortly after String Theory. It happens between parts of Awakenings, detailing the rise of [REDACTED] and the final hours before the destruction of everything sentient species knew beforehand.

You Keep What You Kill covers the slow degeneration of the Empire between The Fall and the Battle of Arus. The knowledge harshly taught by the Thuanial War is forgotten under the influence of Zarkon, Haggar, and [REDACTED]. Marzin and Galraasa quickly rise the ranks as the Empire’s left and right hands, like omens of destruction before them. The four are the ‘holy half-dead,’ the ones who shape the devouring of the universe before them.

The Seven Sisters is about Keith, mostly, and connected to Closure via its influence on Child From the Stars (Lost in the Dark) and also to Memories of a Girl I Haven’t Met
(I cast my hope upon The Pleiades/The Seven Sisters who would come for me/They'd fall to Earth to grant a child's dream/But I'm still waiting)
Starlight is the newly added Adashi song. Here, it’s the sad part, based around the time that the SFSS Genesis launches for Kerberos. It also is sort of about Shiro’s thoughts throughout the war as he watches ‘from distant skies’ (and influences String Theory kinda)
(At night the earth will rise/And I'll think of you each time I watch from distant skies/Whenever stars go down and galaxies ignite/I'll think of you each time they wash me in their light/And I'll fall in love with you again)
Abyss is Awakenings again. It’s specifically the Red Lion waking up on Sendak’s ship to her new Paladin, but also sort of the rest of the Lions as they find new Paladins for the first time since The Fall
(Open my eyes in a daze/How long has it been? Am I so out of place?/Warmth I can no longer feel/My mountain is gone, I'm surrounded by steel/The strangest of structures arises ahead/Seems to be held up by nothing/Where have I gone, do I dream?/How can the stars be all I can see?)
Who Will Save You Now is about the Paladins in First Contact. It’s the video messages they send to their families, the warning that Something Is Out Here that they need to prepare for. It’s a declaration of protection for Earth, but a recognition that the Paladins may not be able to do what they say.

The End of the Beginning and Nobody Gets Left Behind are the aftermath of the Battle of the Sarnan Nebula, the end of season two. The End of the Beginning hasn’t been posted yet, but it’s also the second of the four Closure fics. The End of the Beginning also has influence on String Theory. 
(Every night I die just a little/All this time, I'm caught in the middle/All your life, you fought with no winning/This is just the end of the beginning)

A Simple Plan is sort of part of The End of the Beginning, but really takes place after it. It’s the newly shuffled Team Voltron attempting to track down Lotor as Haggar tries to keep him under her control, and the new Black Paladin’s slow shift away from the things that he was pushed into and to the Blade. (And... guess what... it has influence on String Theory!) Fun fact I found out recently: The Spiritual Machines are by and large also the people behind Les Friction, which explains so much.

Memories of a Girl I Haven’t Met skips all the way over Naxzela and to the Mission to the Baaria Shipyards, the first major offensive that isn’t somehow connected to canon (even if only a very very small part of it is actually at the shipyards lol). This is also the song that solidified Keith’s very queer identity in Dark Matter.
(In this lonely place, bathed in silence and thoughts of you/I can't see your face but I'm trying to envision you/So are you really out there? Are you awake with memories/Of a boy you haven't met yet who's wished upon the Pleiades?)
TRIALS (reimagine) and String Theory are.... hoh boy. [REDACTED], [spoilers], and the turning point for a lot of things, which is why it has the honor of being the separating fic between my two main Dark Matter folders. TRIALS being on here is a fun story, because I associate that song very heavily with my main Star Wars fics, since that’s where the series title comes from, but the reimagine version of it gave me such strong Dark Matter vibes, it ended up here. It has heavy influence on the first part of String Theory, and is what I’ve been using for general pacing of the first half. String Theory itself isn’t the weirdest song on the playlist, but it’s really hard to find the connections to it without several layers of abstraction and backstory on [REDACTED]. String Theory is also weaved into a good chunk of fics before it.

Belgrade is the klance song! It is a) bop b) always stuck in my head because it is That Good. The line in the chorus about ‘sweet songs of seduction’ is eternally funny to be bc a)they’re both ace and b)QPR’s don’t usually involve seduction as far as I know. Belgrade also leads almost directly into...

Here to Save You is about Sam. Mostly. It’s also about Pidge. And Zaivorge cannons.

Iron is what eventually replaced Ten Thousand Against One. The plot has actually changed a lot since it was that song like. two years ago (three?) at this point. It has more of a focus on Keith knowing what’s going on due to [spoilers] and coming to accept parts of himself that are suddenly very obvious (kiiiinda the third closure fic?)

Birthright and Firewall are not exactly a direct result of Iron, but they wouldn’t happen how they do without it. They’re actually largely about Lotor, but then [REDACTED] swings back into the fray and things learned in String Theory/the framing story for Through Apocalypse Skies hit in full force.

Here Comes the Reign doesn’t come into full effect until several months after Birthright/Firewall after Galraasa meets their fate, but starts with The Day the Earth Collapsed. It’s largely about Haggar and [REDACTED]

Closure is placed where the fourth of its fics is. Closure in general is a lot of Keith’s character development and some of the struggles he goes through to accept his place in the universe and the fact that yes, he does have people that care about him. The last fic is me shining a brighter light on Closure’s chorus and taking a ‘last goodbye’ as never needing to say it again

Ember and Soulbound are two closely related missions involving both Voltron and the Blade (specifically the Dark Whispers) in which [REDACTED] comes in with a vengeance, and some revelations about certain people’s fates are had. Soulbound is actually sort of from Krolia’s perspective.

Godhunter is a fun one. The combined effects of String Theory, Soulbound, and Darker Matter/Other Worlds Than These come to a head and Team Voltron goes, well, hunting.

My Darkest Hour is revenge for Godhunter, as well as a distraction from it, although Godhunter continues all the way to Louder than Words.

Faster Than Light is almost direct aftermath of My Darkest Hour, and sort of the inverse of Godhunter, where now Team Voltron are the hunted, even as they attempt to continue hunting. Oh and, Marzin and [REDACTED] are big parts

The Reckoning, This is a Call, World on Fire, The Wind that Shapes the Land, and Louder Than Words are the finale, what everything has been building towards. Earth’s faction, Haggar, [REDACTED], Voltron, the Empire, and the Coalition, all clash together in a final desperate bid to finish or prevent the final result of Your World Will Fail/Dark Matter/Eater of Worlds.

Dystopian Fiction is focused on what happens on Earth during the main playlist. I split it out because putting stuff like Cross the Line on the main playlist was getting clunky, and I figure Adam and Veronica (and the rest of the Paladins’ families, but mostly those two) deserve a chance for their story to shine on its own.
Dark Matter is on here because title track, but also it does end up with effects.

Codebreaker is Adam’s song! I have him primarily as a cryptologist for the Garrison, teaching on the side and as a reserve pilot. Aviators says Codebreaker is actually about Cyperpunk 2077 but uhhh Fuck That it’s about Adam being The Best and dealing with...

Cross the Line is the Éskhayklos’ image song. They’re a neo-luddite movement turned terrorist group that are upset with the way the Sol Federation is trying to fix Earth, stating that humans are the one that pushed it into this state, they should leave it to die and die along with it. Akane Shirogane was their worst nightmare. Cross the Line fits because, well, they crossed the line when [spoiler beep] and they were happy about it. (And “human cause” comes into play later when they pick up anti-alien leanings)

Dystopian Fiction is the title track for this part. With the events of The Day the Earth Collapsed, the Garrison and our heroes on Earth are at their lowest point. It really is a piece of dystopian fiction, between [spoiler] and [spoiler]. And also: “Nobody can shoot me down, not just yet” is about Adam bc Fuck Canon

The Reckoning is the only one of its little subset that made it over here, because it’s the only one that references events from before its eponymous fic (both verses are Very Earth)

Filaments
Filaments is the least complete, mostly because it’s the ‘sequel series’ of sorts. I have ideas for it, but I still haven’t posted most of the major story beats from the main portion of Dark Matter, so I’ve been purposefully putting it on the backburner. I do have enough to write Carry Me Home and put some foreshadowing in other fics.
Dark Matter is here because, well. A) Title track, B) yes, it still has effects. It’s the overarching theme, after all. Filaments sort of has a subtitle itself, which is ‘The Undoing,’ after the other part of the lyric that the subtitle of the main playlist comes from. It’s about undoing a past mistake (that wasn’t obviously a mistake until much later) and reconciling the events of Your World Will Fail.

Filaments is the title track of this part. It’s... a little hard to explain why without giving away the entire plot (what little I have planned lol) but it’s about the connections between different parts of the universe, and some fall-out of Darker Matter/Other Worlds Than These.

Can you tell me more about gawain and lancelot in the arthurian myths? I really ship then in FGO and I heard that they are bestfriends
ok this is straight up going to be an essay without the revisions so just a stream of consciousness on my thoughts of how their relationship is handled in both fate and then the legends themselves since fate pulls a lot yet changes some key aspects that really makes their relationship what it is. it kinda goes from a one sided pinning for an idiot who doesnt comprehend love to a more. theyre just bros. which kinda makes me upset anyways. under the cut. im so sorry for hwo long this is gonna be i have a lot to say about gawain and lancelot. 
ok honestly i think fgo handles their relationship pretty well from what ive seen. they genuinely are just bros too stupid to realize the other is flirting with them in their own ways which is fucking hilarious. i think the only thing that bugs me about how fate actually likes. has them interact is they remove like. the greatest bit of their friendship and i think make it just about the war between them at the end. i cant say for certain but from what i can figure out i think they reduce gawain and lancelots conflict at the end of the main story to just completely them fighting and gawain dying via lancelots wound? but i dont know for certain dont quote me on this. this both a) removes all the REAL tragedy of this situation of both of them just being really fucked up over grief and regrets stirred by arthur in the first place and b) completely ignores one of the best bit of gawain characterization in le morte, gawain forgiving his literal best friend on his death bed and pleading for his return, to come back and mourn for him, to try to save whats left of the world they both helped build and protect. in an adaptation of le morte (which fate lore mostly is) i think gawains final letter is NEEDED to complete his arc and his like. entire character since malory (and then thus fate) spends more time focused on lancelot. 
like just pulling from their dialog w each other in the My Room things, gawain talks about his regret and immaturity over... not forgiving lancelot? what . and lancelot just offers to play chess which is extremely funny. (on another note hwy does fate gawain hate bors. i ltierally can not figure this out at all why is he so mean to his best friends cousin theyre bros.... theyre bros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
anyways now onto the legends because this isnt about fate. fuck fate i hate fate all of my homies hate fate. im gonna focus MOSTLY on le morte since that connects to fates version more and pull some quotes from other legends i have memorized but there is absolutely more, and the vulgate delves into it a bit more but i havent ... gotten that far im so sorry the prose merlin is kicking my ass. 
the thing to note is gawain (excluding guenevere) was kinda the first person to show lancelot respect when he came to court. gawain kinda took him under his wing for a bit, and they end up VERY close. they have a relationship built off of respect and understanding for each other and it ends up being one of lancelots only Real friendships throughout most legends since he has issues w communication and understanding intention that i could (and will) rant about for hours so i wont delve too into it rn. but like. theyre arthurs best knights basically. troyes will say otherwise and say eric and yvaine are better than lancelot but troyes is fucking stupid and a whore, and most sources will tell you its gawain and lancelot (most sources favor lancelot over gawain due to the french influence on some later literature, and le morte is on the lancelot side due to being pulled a lot from the post vulgate, which pulls from the vulgate, aslo called the lancelot-graal cycle. its a whole thing)
but basically for a lot of the main legends you have two Absolute Best Bros who would literally do anything for the other, one being extremely horny and the other being so hopelessly inept when it comes to communication he doesnt understand how love works. theyre a wonderful pair :-) im kidding theyre so fukcing stupid watching them interact is like watching a car crash. its fucking disastrous and you want to yell at them to just beat the shit out of each other homoerotically and understand their feelings (which they do! wow! shout out to le morte!) anyways to keep this from getting too long lets go over some fun gawain quotes about his Best Friend. Who he thinks about a lot. but like... in a no homo way. he swears.

anyways: tldr lancelot and gawain are in love even if both of them are too stupid to realize it. thats basically their entire relationship. everything goes to shit after lancelot accidently kills gareth and gaheris because lancelot too thinks of them as his brothers and is so torn up about it he lets everything happen. gawain starts a war with him because he would rather die than face the music. like its insane.... they should kiss. fate kinda gets this ok, but i think they should have had them just more homoerotic at every given moment because they Are. thanks for listening to my ted talk. im sorry im like this.

so now that it’s been over a month and i’ve seen frozen 2 three times, i thought i’d finally give my thoughts on it. i’ll format it like i did for endgame, with a “good, meh, bad, what i’d change/etc” bullet list. this might be a little incoherent because i have a hard time expressing with words what i love about this franchise so much but i’ll try.
tldr: i love elsa with my soul entire, i’m happy that anna wasn’t sidelined, but kristoff, while funny, could’ve been better
what i liked
EVERYTHING about elsa. i love that elsa takes a little more center stage in this one; not because i dislike anna but i just love elsa. legit, each time her parts in some things never change comes up, i start to tear up because she’s just so beautiful, her animation in that little part is so fucking bright and glowing and good.
also all of her outfits are so amazing, but especially that main traveling one. her holiday one is still my favorite but this one is like just touching that slightly more ““”masculine””” side that my butch ass could wear it and probably still feel ok. (also all the details on everyone’s clothing is fucknig stunning, i see new things every watch.)
it’s probably unnecessary to even praise the animation because duh of course it’s good, literally every animated movie i saw this year was beautiful but guys it’s stunning. i really gotta give it to that one scene of elsa where she’s trying to get a word in against anna and kristoff and she just flies seamlessly between so many different emotions and expressions.
there are parts about into the unknown that i don’t like (some of the verse lines are very “talk-y” like she’s just speaking to music, and in general i don’t like songs where the chorus is just the title repeated) but oh man when it gets to “everyone i’ve ever loved” and idina starts to show her range that’s when it really gets fist pumping and i LOVE the horns that come in near the end. there are parts could rival let it go, but not quite.
i’m really glad i didn’t listen to the soundtrack before seeing this because show yourself is an experience. (i also didn’t watch any cast interviews, so i didn’t know that there would be “two let it go’s.”) every time i’m just blown away to tears because of the sheer power of this scene; and not just it’s message. the vocals, the animation. how happy my girl looks. i just love her so much.
speaking of anna earlier, during the months going into this movie i was worried that anna wouldn’t have much to do; that focus would be on elsa too much. and while there’s never “too much” elsa for me, anna is still an important part of this franchise; frozen 1 is her movie. and i’m very happy that not only was she still very relevant, but she got the whole climax. i love that she is also the bridge, and as much the fifth spirit as elsa. i have mixed feelings on her being queen that i’ll get into, but don’t have anything against the idea of it, and i think she’ll be ok.
i have,,,,, issues with kristoff’s song, and his role in general, but the song itself is like a legitimately good song and it’s so goddamn extra that i laugh my ass each time. i never realized how damn pleasant his voice is.
also i still hella bro-ship him and elsa; adorable in-laws. i wish there was more of them, but i love that they genuinely seem to love each other and he hugs her !!!
also it’s so funny that elsa has no problem with this weirdly smart reindeer just, in her castle.
mattias !!! i was so nervous about him, sure that disney would make him the secret villain (i did not want them to fuck up this franchise’s first main black character, considering its biggest criticism is how damn white it is, something i do agree with.) but no he’s amazing. he’s hilarious and sweet and charming and fatherly. i fucking adored him. i really hope if there’s a third one he has a bigger role. he’s their grandpa now.
bruni is definitely very adorable and i love that elsa’s got her own pascal, but like pascal, i wish he looked more like a gecko? both of them have that super chibi, super “child’s toy” look to them, and it’s not that they look bad (tho i’m not fond of pascal’s series look) i just think i’d like them both more if they just looked like how real lizards did. the other animals in these movies look fine, why not the reptiles? also the nokk is cool and terrifying.
honeymaren and ryder!! wow what good gays??? and siblings too, thank god!! i totally thought they’d done a last minute hook up, but no.
i loved that they were dunking on hans so much. elsa and anna said “fuck you” to redeeming entitled white men who try to take advantage of and kill women.
i personally don’t count the “twist” with their grandfather as a true “secret villain twist” because he’s been dead for 34 years. it almost is, but to me it’s more of a reveal, the answer to a question set up at the beginning, a follow through to the idea of “normal” people fearing magic. and between this and WiR2, i kind of like this new trend of villain-less disney movies. like sure, villains are fine and i really did wish this movie would be the one to bring back those old classic hammy 90′s villains. but they’re trying something different, and after eight years of twist “gotcha!” villains, that’s not a bad thing.
the “pretty okay”
so i liked the spirits just fine; quite a lot actually, elemental spirits calling to elsa is a cool idea, as is her, and later anna, calming them. but i do kind of wish they’d been a little more... i dunno, consistent? like why was one of them a tiny blue lizard, another one is a horse but made of water, another is just the wind, and the last are a group? none of these are bad ideas on their own (i especially like that bruni and nokk are based on real world mythology.) but i wish they had either all been the same or all completely different. what if along with a fire lizard and water horse, there was a wind bird and a earth turtle, like a torterra? maybe the bird is made of wind like the nokk, and the turtle has eyes like bruni. or what if they could all shape shift and didn’t have one specific form? or you could follow the earth giants and have there be more than one spirit of the other three; more than one lizard/reptile, more wind, more nokks. (i like the animal ideas myself.)
i don’t love olaf, but i don’t hate him either. he has his moments - it’s actually kind of astounding that i find him as funny as i do - but i could still do without his songs, and wish his design was better. “samatha?” is a great joke tho.
i don’t really know how to feel about the “water has memory” thing but they are at least consistent with it and trying new lore for the world. it’s no weirder than tangled’s “sunlight dripped from the sun and made a flower” i guess.
i’ll get to it later, but this movie handled “shaking up the status quo by separating the main relationship” so much better than httd3.
what i’m not fond of
the pacing of this movie is pretty off. i’ve heard it was supposed to be longer, and you can feel it. elsa suddenly hearing the voice when we’re just barely out of the prologue. the journey to the forest itself being a montage. i honestly thought that would be a bigger part of the plot, and was looking forward to it. there’s actually kind of a part of me that wishes this movie was about the trip and the magical stuff is encountered through the journey, and the forest is ahtohallan or something, i dunno.
when elsa says she woke up the spirits, it’s treated as if it’s something she did with intent, and that is not at all the impression i got from into the unknown. (i suppose you could argue that her “are you out there, can you feel me?” lines are trying to show that she is waking them up on purpose.) maybe this is a result of things getting cut and hobbled together.
i like the idea of elsa and anna being part northuldran but ya’ll...... they white as fuck. if they wanted to make that more believable, they should’ve had more white looking northuldrans, but most of them aren’t, so it’s just like “where the hell did idunna come from??”
so kristoff. like i said, his song is hilarious and a jam; but it also grinds the movie to a dead halt. and i appreciate that it’s theme is talking about how you feel, but how he’s feeling is that he and anna are “drifting apart” all because of a few awkward conversations?? (you’re on a quest, my dude !!!! there are spirits and her sister is hearing a voice, of course she has other things to worry about.) then he disappears out of the movie.
plus i really don’t like that his entire arc is him trying to propose. for one thing, all of his attempts are just frustrating to watch, because they turn anna into an idiot. like i get that he’s nervous, but you’re telling me after three years, anna would misunderstand him that badly?? that him stumbling over his words would imply he wants to break up? (which thank god they didn't go anywhere with that.) i get that anna has her own issues with abandonment, but that just wasn’t funny or fun to watch. and literally all of kristoff’s problems in this movie happened because he felt the need to propose as soon as he possibly could. their kingdom was in danger, and they were going on a journey to find angry spirits, an enchanted forest, and a mysterious voice that only the person with magic could hear. he couldn’t have waited until they got home? nothing was stopping him from waiting until they were home safely and he had her full attention. my guy, just because your pet reindeer brother gave you an encouraging nod doesn’t mean you have to propose while your gf is thinking about her kingdom being flooded.
also anna hearing “oh he went off with that ryder guy” and taking it really hard?? for all she knew, he was hiding from the giants. they couldn’t have gone to find him?? they were in a trapped forest, and the northuldran people were right there to help them look. this conflict was extremely forced and only happened because they needed to get anna in that cave alone.
but what i really didn’t like about the proposal plot was that they did it at all. frozen 1 ends right when they begin dating; they weren’t even in love yet. kristoff, and thus their romance, doesn’t have much a presence in the shorts. and then, suddenly, he wants to propose in this? we missed three whole years of courtship. look, i don’t consider myself a “kristanna” shipper. like, it just is what it is, your standard canon disney ship. but i actually was interested in seeing what a romance between them was like considering we’ve seen nothing of it so far. why should i care about the start of their marriage when i barely have an idea of what they’re like as a couple? because what we see of their relationship in this movie was very.... basic.
tho it is funny how similar his role in this is to your classic female love interest.
so like i said, i love show yourself. i’m not mad at the fact that what elsa finds is basically her own self realization. but i wanted there to be something there. it’s not even clear what exactly it is. i, personally, don’t think the voice was actually her mother. i don’t think her mom’s spirit was calling to her, and i think that moment of them singing together was just Musical Magic™. that was just elsa revisiting the memory of her mom telling her the story. i think this was ahtohallan, magic itself, calling to her and using the familiar voice of her northuldran mother. but this is also not clear, and i would like it to be clear.
also i know the answer is “because none of this existed when frozen 1 was written” but i still have to wonder why the voice was calling elsa now.
also also, it’s weird that ahtohallan would punish elsa for trying to get the information to fix everything. i get the “you’ll be drowned” thing, but what if elsa hadn’t been able to send anna a message? what if they’d both been there? how could it have gotten fixed if she was dead? i think there should have been more of an established “if you want to know the truth/do the next right thing, you have to pay a price” or something, i don’t know.
i’m not upset at elsa and anna’s separation. (i would prefer it didn’t happen, but i’m not mad about it.) i know some people are, but they’re clearly still in contact, elsa still visits, they’re like a day and a half away from each other. they’ve got the nokk who got to arendelle from  ahtohallan at the speed of a flood. i also don’t think this happened because elsa didn’t want to be queen; she spends this whole movie taking into consideration the needs of arendelle. i can believe that anna would make a good queen. what i’m not fond of is how this just like, happens. maybe this was cut, but this movie really needed an extra scene of the two of them talking and planting the idea that this is something anna would be ok with. that elsa is feeling like she doesn’t really belong in arendelle anymore (that also isn’t as well established as it could’ve been. but i guess this is the same woman who legit tried to live in an isolated castle so.) that’s a really really huge step, a huge change of the formula. you need a little more than just “oh i know what we should do.”
this isn’t something “bad” but i am kind of confused: is ahtohallan in the forest?? cause if it’s not, then how did elsa get out????
i don’t know how to feel about
arendelle’s fate. i’m not upset about it, because it wasn’t that arendelle had to fall, just the dam. this is a disney movie, and the people didn’t deserve to have their home destroyed because of the sins of one man. i’m confused at how elsa got there so fast, but i mean, i can believe that the literal spirit of water can just run that fucking fast. (i also think it was helping her make that ice wall.) but it would actually have been such an interesting move?? like what a direction for a disney movie to go, the pretty disney princess kingdom is destroyed.
i thought we were gonna see the people of arendelle and northuldra coming together to rebuild a new arendelle. and maybe arendelle citizens in northuldra, just like in the beginning, enjoying the magic and the spirits. that would’ve been pretty cool.
i don’t really understand why the fifth spirit is ice? like again i know it’s because this movie didn’t exist when F1 was written, but what does ice have to do with.... anything??? she can also kind of control water in this movie too, so?? my guess is it’s because ice is kind of a mix of all four? it’s a form of water, it can be in the air, it’s solid like earth/can be in the earth, and is the opposite of fire and can curb it. i dunno, that’s all i can think of for that.
also was elsa being the fifth spirit supposed to be a twist for us or for the characters? because it was really freaking obvious, but if it was only for the characters’ sake, then i’m fine with it. (maybe it was for the kids who were old enough to understand “oh there’s another spirit who could it be?” but young enough to not put together context clues. which is totally fine.)
what i would change
make elsa gay, for one. and this would’ve been so easy. the beginning has her in some kind of... meet up or something. have some male suitors there and she’s totally not interested, but oh, there’s a woman across the room and now she looks so much more comfortable. and then when she’s with honeymaren, now she’s looking all flustered and there’s a lot of meaningful looks. (fuck, have her out right say “i’m not interested in men” this is goddamn frozen.) you don’t have to give her a girlfriend - i’m super against this idea that lgb representation only counts if the character actually ends up with boyfriend/girlfriend - but you can still set it up and make her gay. (but by frozen 3, yeah, they’re totally dating.)
i would take out kristoff’s proposal and make his plot about something else. like the northuldran people are supposed to be sami, right? and isn’t kristoff sami? maybe he’s from there too! maybe his family was locked out of the forest or something, i dunno. he was also raised by magical trolls, so maybe he’s not from northuldra, but he feels a connection; because magic.
but if you must have him trying to propose, don’t make him bumbling through awkward attempts. make it so elsa’s helping him. (this also gives them more of a relationship to build on.) they’re the ones awake during the journey, and he asks her permission. then by the dam she’s like “so what’s you’re plan how’re you gonna do it show me.” have some fun with that instead of “you think i’m crazzzzzy?” (also imagine elsa and kristoff having a song together that’d be pretty sweet.)
with ahtohallan, i would just make it so the call was from the fifth spirit, which is just “magic” and we see it in the form of the colored lights that we see throughout show yourself (like a living aurora borealis, which we do actually see during all is found.) then it just passes the torch to elsa. that’s really all i needed.
so overall i did really like this movie a lot, but it’s not perfect by any means. i still don’t know if i like it more than the first or not; i wanna say, no, i like the first one more, but it’s really hard to say because they’re such different movies. but i’m mostly happy with what we got and i still wanna see it as many times as i can while in theaters.

super kids pair dynamics
note that when i say “pair” i dont mean Ship Pairing its just every possible duo in this group, minus jack jack, because everyone other than vi and dash’s dynamic w him is “you are baby”
just so this has some semblance of organization, it’s gonna go in alphabetical order. so chance > dash > gigi > rose > tony > victor > violet. i’d do minny but i think i’ll leave that to ramon and em to decide since she’s their character and they’d know her better than i do!
chance & dash - obvious but theyre Boyfriends once theyre older. at present in canon they just have baby crushes on each other but neither has realized it yet. they share a brain cell, and i mean that in both the Dumbass way and in the “their minds are so in sync its crazy” way. they name their children by mashing their own names together. that’s their wavelength
chance & gigi - they get along pretty well i think. gigi uses some of his morphs as inspiration for new gadgets, like lizard-esque wall climbing gloves & shoes. he likes to sit and watch her work sometimes 
chance & rose - barely know each other. their super suits are both green i guess
chance & tony - while chance is chaos enough for dash, he’s also got a more reserved side, and it comes out when he talks with his in-law-in-law tony. they are both dating a parr and that says enough. they probably watch the same tv shows
chance & victor - doesn’t really like the guy. he eventually slightly warms up to him but he’s the one victor targeted in the first place, so he’s always gonna be on the defense around him. for a while, anyway. victor proves himself eventually and the two are never exactly close, but chance knows victor’s upbringing was Bad
chance & violet - they have kind of a sarcastic relationship. he is able to safely snark to her without getting called a wiseass. when he’s in-morph she’ll tease him by being like “prove you’re chance do a trick”. best siblings-in-law ever
dash & gigi - they get on each other’s nerves just a little bit but not too bad. he’s always willing to be the guinea pig for when she needs to test smth and she both respects and fears his gusto. she teaches him some judo moves upon request
dash & rose - they don’t know each other very well either. i dont think rose and the younger kids are very close at all
dash & tony - dash instantly thinks tony is the coolest person in the world the moment tony calls him “buddy” and he will butt in during his sister’s dates to be like “hey tony hows your day been”. tony thinks dash is a funny kid and humors him but also tries to end the convo quickly so he and vi wont try and kill each other. once dash finds out tony’s an empath hes constantly like “hey what number am i thinking of”
dash & victor - is one of the first people, along with gigi, to be on the side of “let’s give victor a chance”, surprisingly. he hasn’t forgotten what he pulled on chance but he’s also like “his dad was killed by syndrome. that can’t be easy” and kinda sorta feels a connection to how victor lashed out. victor doesn’t take dash seriously at first but seeing dash in battle one (1) time turned him around bc dangit the kid’s clever
dash & violet - chaos siblings supreme. ive already talked at length before about how much these two love each other and how they’d die for each other in an instant so i won’t get too deep into it, but they know each other better than anyone else does. they share the same trauma and they work together in hero work near-seamlessly, despite how much they bicker in their everyday life
gigi & rose - softd for each other. rose needs someone who’s super understanding (lol) about the super thing, since she’s so skittish and defensive about it, and gigi’s had a toe in the super world her whole life bc of lucius. they have nice quiet convos while doing diff stuff in the same room and also theyre girlfriends. the only time the phrase “soft uwu wlw” is allowed
gigi & tony - “the only people violet parr is soft for” squad unite. they have a two-person book club where they #stan jane eyre and they also share turtlenecks bc theyre the same size. they try and pair up as partners in science class whenever possible
gigi & victor - supported victor’s second chance early on, partly because she had almost no hand in what he did other than being kidnapped. she’s sympathetic to him mostly on a hunch. she might invite him to her and tony’s book club later and introduce him to gothic literature. he thinks she’s suspiciously nice to him and is slightly defensive around her at first
gigi & violet - the definition of wlw solidarity. ride or fucking die. see the adventures of violet and dash book 2 for the love jewelry they made for each other. when vi’s not fighting crime with her usual partner dash, she almost always teams up w gigi
rose & tony - they have drama class together and have a light-hearted friendship. one day during an improv exercise in class one of them messed a sentence up and started laughing and the other joined and the teacher had to intervene bc they couldnt stop giggling. when she gets anxious and tony senses it he puts a hand on her shoulder and she appreciates it
rose & victor - these two have an unlikely bond because of their weird and stressful family situations. in general, she opens up a little bit before he does, and sorta relates to his closed-off-ness. so it’s either her or gigi that usually offers him an extra cookie or w/e at first
rose & violet - had a crush on her when they first met bc shes a fuckin lesbian. violet was immediately rose’s wingwoman when she met gigi tho. they probably have philosophical debates when they hang out, which is usually taking a walk through the park or going to the zoo
tony & victor - tony’s actually ends up being victor’s closest friend. since he’s an empath he can tell that victor’s being sincere when he eventually says he’s sorry to the others, and besides rose, tony’s the one that’s the furthest removed from what happens in the books. so he’s kind to victor, and victor’s not as defensive around him cause he figures his kid’s a wimp and couldn’t lie about trying to get me arrested if he tried. but yeah this is probably the person victor gets along best with
tony & violet - this is another dynamic i’ve talked about at length before but the TLDR is that he’s constantly amazed by her even before he finds out she’s a super, and him being the most “normal” one out of all the kids is comforting to violet. i hesitate to be like “she likes feeling normal” but she does like feeling grounded and loved by someone she can just relax and take a break from Super Stuff with. they’re each other’s superheroes
violet & victor - she’s the most Sus of him when he comes back, and he’s not exactly keen on her either. she only agrees to give him a second chance because of what tony says in his favor. but after working with each other for a long time, they both respect and trust each other. like when theyre adults, if you asked either of them about the other, theyd be like “i’d defend them in battle, and i know they’d do the same for me”

Ok... im gonna be serious for a sec here...
Its so tiring to see so much drama in fandom spaces
Like first there's the fact that hey, people have to fucking stop obsessing over people, digging, stalking, doing all this shit to people who don't deserve it. Do your own research, know your facts, and know when to quit. Its almost like people get pleasure from drudging up muck on others and its sickening. Block, move on. I'd understand if there was a huge, major issue, but especially if you've got your facts wrong you're only ruining the day of another human being over and over. The block button is easy and free. It pays to distance.
Like seriously some of y'all are staight up stalking people like you're out for blood, stalking twitter handles, screening twitters and tumblrs and hell even more personal places and where blogs have gone when ive never even seen proof of any claims prior. Many others havent either and even worse some blindly follow. Its not funny or cute or a spiritual duty to oggle at these individuals this is just horrible and if you really, honestly get joy from driving people away even after they correct their problematic behaviors or follow your tips because they were non the wiser on a subject, there's something wrong with you. If you're obsessive like that, with a non forgiving never forgetting policy, just don't even interract. Re-evaluate what you're doing here. People grow and change and its ignorant not to believe that. If people never changed, we wouldnt be where we are as a world.
And second, the drama of bringing it up over and fuckinng over again. Neverending. I thought ive seen the last of the talk of this person but hey!! Here it is again! Right in my face! This gets so tiring and i can speak from experience when i say drama over something as a fandom, ship, headcanon or whatever just makes people lose interest.
It disheartens it disgusts after a while even until theres so much bombshells to have to watch after that, and you feel you can barely move. There's probably other people that feel this too who are more watchers, and even if you are/think you're doing good by spreading info there's a point where it goes to be too much. You drive people away, it makes nobody wanna have a say or interract. I personally have dropped interest in many a thing for this reason. This person's bad, that's cringe, that's not correct even if it the majority headcanon isn't real, incorrect even if the headcanon is rare! Like seriously, unwind. You can dream and like all you want! Just don't start shit or start lying about other people because they disagree! This or that, that or the other thing, it makes me wanna roll up a paper and smack you very gently on the head because, im angry, but im not violent! Its just so much endless back and fourth because nobody can let go, and people try to drag it out and just aah, how do you still listen to yourselves type? Speak? How are you not tired of an endless debate that you keep going back to?
Look, i used to kind of be that way with ships. I used to hate a popular, nonproblematic few for no reason other than i didn't like the chemistry of it, or it made me think of bad things personal to myself, and i used to bash. But someone who is currently like one of my best friends pulled my head outta my ass and was like hey! Thats not cool! Chill! And over time, with their help, in some ways, i unwound and saw that what i made myself hate wasn't bad. It was chill, and now if they asked me for a doodle of something they liked cuz they were down I'd do it woth a smile. People are as numerous and varying as stars in the sky, and nobody will think exactly like you do, so don't try to snuff them out or change them if they don't want to. Informing and forcing are two different things, with a very fine and defined line between.
Ships and headcanons that are good are good. Popular ones are fine, so is straight, so is gay, bi, lesbian, trans, polly, platonic, rarepairs, crossovers, tasteful ocs, not really going with theme or order, those are what i talk about when i say its fine to like and let people like! If you have comprehensive skill and know what im saying and arent gonna be like, "ah, so you advocate for *insert horrible thing i obviously never meant*!!! Disgusting for shame!" Then you must understand!
I guess, the TLDR here would be this: Unwind. Take a breath, try please try to get along with someone, don't spread hate, see things from their perspective and if someone bothers you, and they aren't actively advocating for disgusting things and nothing can br proven but you still have that urk, please. For your and everyone's sake. Look at the block button. Press it. Breathe. I swear, things will be so much better if you just let yourself have peace. It's a simple act of pure self love.
Otherwise, you're only sitting there, endlessly trying to get fleeting enjoyment from meaningless, hurting drama. And nobody wants that suffocation in the end.

I Need Some Balance
This is probably the funniest episode this show has ever put out and one of the few episodes for which I can find no obvious flaws.
I haven’t rewatched Cats or relistened to any of the soundtracks in a very long time but I loved it as a kid. Is it a good musical? Not really. It has good songs and some entertaining performances but Rebecca’s assessment of it isn’t really wrong.
At its heart, I Need Some Balance is an episode about Rebecca’s vagina and the struggles it faces. Making an episode about her vagina also have it be an entire episode dragging a musical Rachel doesn’t like is one of the most CXGF things CXGF has done.
As I’ve mentioned before, I like when CXGF feels a bit more like a real musical and isn’t just pumping pop music videos out.  In this episode we have five numbers that are better incorporated into the plot than most usually are. I love it.
On the matters of the actual plot…
Jason would be a good option to have Rebecca “end up” with at the end of the series if they want her to be casually dating someone at the end for whom she doesn’t have some weird, complicated past with. He’s boring but kind of weird in the way she’s also kinda weird. That makes him a pretty good fit. No one is ever going to ship and that’s a damn good thing.
Amazingly, the real star of this episode is WhiJo. He’s just so fucking funny as he reacts to the hurtling train that is Greg and Nathaniel becoming friends, not knowing who each other are. It was also nice to see Vic again, however briefly. He’s kind of in the same place as Beth where he’s obviously never going to get much development beyond being the partner of one of the major characters.
Greg feels a little off in this episode. He’s kind of falling into the same thing that has happened to Nathaniel and to a certain extent Josh the last couple of seasons. Which is becoming whatever Rebecca’s narrative needs him to be. Greg is meant to be healthy but he’s suddenly trying to pull off romantic gestures.
I briefly wondered how Greg knew where Rebecca lived but then felt stupid as I remembered that one of his best friends (Hector) lived there for a year. And also Rebecca could’ve easily given him the address while they were at Rebetzels in 4.08. One of those things that feels like a plot hole until you spend a few seconds thinking about it. (And obviously Heather lived there for like a year and a half. There’s opportunities for things like Christmas cards… also possible he could’ve gotten event invites on Facebook, which would’ve shown the address. TLDR, this isn’t a big deal, there’s a billion ways he could know.)
Nathaniel, on the other hand, at least tracks with where he’s at. Which is clearly not being over Rebecca and not dealing with his own problems. I looooved Greg calling Nathaniel out for constantly pointing out that he’s nice. Being a good person is harder work than just doing nice things and pointing out that you are nice.
The ending with all of the guys ending up on Rebecca’s porch is ridiculous and feels like the sort of thing that would normally be played more straight in actual romcoms. But again, really, WhiJo is the star of that plot, even if it’s Greg and Nathaniel’s plots getting moved.
My only complaint about this one is kind of a tiny one. In that it’s not a flaw of this episode in particular but a general one: Valencia gets a lot of screen time but no development of her own. She’s just there to be a supportive friend. Now to some degree, Heather and Valencia have both been simply filling the role Paula used to fill for Rebecca (and it seems obvious the show has been deliberately keeping Paula and Rebecca apart, probably as a setup for the endgame, whatever it might be.) But still. It’s awkward to have two of your characters of colour basically end up just playing the supportive friends who get no depth of their own (though Valencia is far worse off as she hasn’t had meaty development in TWO ENTIRE SEASONS.)
The Songs:
Soooo some of these songs have never been officially posted and tbh I don’t know that I can find much of interest to say about them. Let’s see.
Hungry Vagina Metaphor - Easily the best of these numbers. Riki Lindhome is great.
Itchy Vagina Metaphor - Probably my least favourite despite Fred Armisen.
Funky Vagina Metaphor - Well performed. Can’t remember name of guy who did it.
Elated Vagina Metaphor - Amusing but really isn’t a song.
Nostalgic Vagina Metaphor - Second best number. I have a lot of nostalgia for Memory. Who knew Megan Amram could sing?
I’m not posting ratings anymore (just because I’ve found it too hard to gauge my thoughts… I can’t be as “objective” as I can about older episodes in retrospect.)
But summary: Great episode. Instant classic. If someone wanted an example list of what this show is like by only showing like 5 episodes this would probably be on it. Just one of the funniest fucking things I’ve ever seen.
ETA: OMG I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT DARRYL AND BERT. Anyhow, I love my queer office dads. I kinda ship it.
