Watched Galavant recently and enjoyed it a lot. Have some thoughts about it, like how the characters we're introduced to in the first song begin the series vs how they end it.
Galavant: Starts out being rejected in favor of social advancement and abandoning questing out of heartbreak, ends marrying someone above his station and retiring from adventuring to live a quiet life together.
Richard: First and last episode both have him marry a commoner (well implied and off-screen in the last), except with Madalena it was by force and she only agreed for status, while Bobby was willing and stuck by him even when he lost his royal status.
Madalena: Both begins and ends the story choosing power over love, but now the choice is one that hurts her.

some thoughts on the 1982 drivers' strike and a little context
So, I’ve been feeling a little odd about the 1982 drivers’ strike for a while, and I’ve been mulling over it. The reason I haven't written this post before now is because I know that a lot of people in this community are attached to the strike! I am not immune to this! It’s a great story, unexpected and fun, rich with lore. I mean, who doesn’t love union action? Who doesn’t love a good strike?
I really hate to be a buzzkill and I don’t mean to attack anyone—not any users here (definitely not!), not any drivers either really (maybe Bernie Ecclestone though). I guess I just mean this post as a conversation starter.
Anyway. People like to use the example of the 1982 strike when they’re trying to make points about modern F1. For example, when the race in Saudi Arabia was in question because of airstrikes happening near the track (I still can’t believe that went ahead, but I digress), and when Domenicali made that asinine statement about drivers’ political engagement, a lot of great posts about the strike were suddenly doing the rounds on modern f1 tumblr. Look at what they managed to do before! people were saying. See how ridiculous it is to say that Niki Lauda wasn’t political! Look here! They organised a strike, maybe they’ll do it again! We love a strike! We love a union!
And good for the drivers for sticking up for their workers' rights and so on. Good on Niki Lauda and Didier Pironi for not rolling over.
However.
Something that has always quietly gnawed away at me ever more since first learning about the strike was the fact that it took place in South Africa, in 1982, during apartheid.
If ever there has been a place where F1 should not have raced, it would be South Africa during apartheid.
The cognitive dissonance is pretty extreme to me. There was an active international campaign going on at the time to try to pressure South Africa into not being a racist backwards hellhole; musical artists were strongly encouraged not to go there as part of a large cultural boycott, trade embargos were in place, the country was excluded from the Olympics and most sports organisations. An exception to this? Formula One. While these very rich white Formula One drivers were gallivanting on Kyalami Ranch or in the Sunnyside Park Hotel, which was whites-only, the majority Black and Coloured* population were being brutally oppressed, deprived of their civil rights, displaced from their homes, and kept in poverty by an explicitly white supremacist regime.
Were the F1 drivers striking over apartheid?
Were they striking, perhaps, because non-white people did not have equal access to the GP?
Were they striking, maybe, because the Black employees at Kyalami didn’t have the right to vote?
No.
They were striking because they wanted more control over their contracts.
If the strike had happened anywhere else, I would enjoy the story without reservation. But it didn’t happen somewhere else, it happened in apartheid South Africa. I think it’s maybe good to keep that in mind as an extra dimension when we talk about the strike. It’s also useful when we think about F1’s relationship with politics—internal and external.
F1 is rumoured to race at Kyalami again next year, and I for one am very excited.
Please reblog with any additions and perspectives you may have!
*a term used in South Africa with different connotations than in other places

shitpost dispatches from guanyin temple & the sangyao dungeons - [10/?]
with the important caveat that no, jgy was absolutely not attempting to kill or harm nhs prior to this moment, but I would bet cash money on him exacting some pretty bloody retribution upon his beloved a-sang if he'd survived the events of guanyin temple (and also I think he would win)
#mdzs#mdzs shitposting#sangyao#not my favourite flavour of sangyao tbh#i prefer to read/write them without the revenge vision quest hovering as the dramatic irony elephant in the room#compels me tho#just to ramble abt this a bit more in my own tags#huaisang's one advantage throughout his entire revenge quest is that jin guangyao does not suspect him of anything#i have many additional thoughts here about how jgy's fatal flaw wrt nhs is overlooking and underestimating his capacity#for presenting one face to the world while keeping his real thoughts and feelings and ambitions hidden away#(and where do you think he learned that from a-yao? i'm gonna go out on a limb and say 'not er-ge or da-ge')#whereas nhs's fatal flaw (and it is not something that I perceive as fatal within the text#so much as supposition wrt his mental state post-canon)#is his inability to commit himself to any work he's not personally invested in#this is endearing and cute and a little exasperating when he's at lan summer camp#but wrt jgy it prevents him from looking past *what* jgy has done to nmj and asking himself *why*#I do think it is inevitable he will ask that question in his future just as lxc was desperately asking it at the end of the confrontation#the tragedy here is that nhs orchestrated the death of the only person who could ever give him that answer#and now he will never know#jin guangyao#nie huaisang#he did crimes??? good for him 😌#let him have birds!! 🕊#mdzs meta#in the tags anyway#moling queue

when the intrigue starts intriguing (fic snippet under the cut because what do you know. sharing my writing still gives me the Horrors)
Tumblr media
(so i have a lot of thoughts about Cameron as a betrayer even though he is one in this fic, because he's seriously just looking for a reason, ANY reason, to not betray anyone at all. he's desperately trying to find the tiniest of ways to excuse himself into doing the right thing, and Neil WILL NOT GIVE IT TO HIM. not even out of malice, he just wears his heart sewn to his sleeve like it's fucking applique. this plays into a bunch of dynamics re: fic that essentially end up as "jesus CHRIST, this guy isn't suited for politics", but i think it's summed up well here - Cameron asking Neil for a reason to make him stay, to stop him from reporting back to Neil's father, and being met with mockery, because in Neil's view, what's the point of befriending a traitor? they remain a traitor anyway. and then from Cameron's view this is the final straw on the back of the camel.)

the fact that hikaru often gets reduced in the fandom to nothing more than 'horse' jokes is something that's always stuck with me. it's a bit ironic, in a sad kind of way.
hikaru being 'the horse' isn't just some joke thrown in for laughs -- it's her coping mechanism; the way that she dehumanizes herself and creates a mental disconnect to separate herself from the things she does, and to place herself in the role of being a tool for yuna's use. hikaru may not necessarily want to kill people for promised blood's goals, but if yuna wants it, then the horse certainly does, can, and will.
it's not as great of a coping mechanism as she believes it to be -- it certainly does get her through the harder parts of life as a futatsugi magical girl, and it's become something of a personal playful nickname among the ranks of promised blood -- but it's textbook dehumanization. she's not thinking of herself as a human being, but instead as an animal, as a tool, a weapon. she cheerfully agrees when ao calls her an empty shell, grinning and chirping back that with yuna-san, she's full.
everything hikaru -- the horse -- does is for yuna. she's not her own person; she's not a person at all. yuna-san is promised blood's general, and a general needs her loyal horse. the horse won't need to feel guilty for the blood on her hands and at the tip of her saber at the end of the day. she was made to do this. she is not her own person; she's not a person at all.
all of this to say -- hikaru's character being turned into 'horse' jokes by a lot of the fandom is something i think about a normal amount.

So there was an episode I saw about Casper and well... The thing that made me a little giggly is the fact that Stretch is singing little Casper a lullaby and knows how to care for him. I know it was just supposed to be Casper as a baby and played off as a joke. But, at the same time, it’s so funny and so strange (I say this is a good way) to see him get all happy about caring about something.
And to actually hear the words “my baby!” when Casper is back to his ghostly normal self AND hug him right as he says that? Almost made me emotional for a second. I thought someone was lying to me, but oh man. I was mistaken

once again like, if I was in my own body a lot of things would be easier to handle. even if I still had to deal with all the same physical stuff (chronic pain, fatigue, etc) that I get in this body, it would be so much easier if I at least looked and felt like myself.
it'd be a lot easier if I didn't have to deal with the specific mental illness stuff (mostly from our OCD) that affects the whole system in the same ways but makes me distressed by things that don't feel like things I would be distressed by and that makes me do things that don't feel like things I'd do.
like oh yeah here's a thing I'm upset about. no it's not a thing that upsets me personally, but our brain decided I have no choice but to be upset by it. no I don't actually give a shit about it but once again I'm at the mercy of a brain that doesn't give a shit what I think about this because it's going to give me a panic attack regardless

OH! If you want can you tell us about your arcane hunter??? (I love arcane builds)
Ask Sin Stuff ✨️
Omg thank you for indulging me I would indeed love to talk about my arcane hunter actually 💅 I guess I'll start with the actual gameplay side of it because they were a total accident to be completely fair; at the beginning, I'd wanted to main the Blades of Mercy and focus on Skill, but found that a bit unfulfilling to play so I switched gears mid-run to invest mostly in Arcane instead with some Strength and Skill still thrown in for good measure. Rather unexpectedly for me who knows very little about builds and the like, they became an absolute powerhouse of a hunter and incredibly fun to run because of it 😂
Currently they main the Holy Moonlight Sword (with the BoM still equipped as their secondary since those have some Arc scaling anyway). They don't often need to use their Blunderbuss that much since HMS just destroys everything that breathes in its transformed state, but they have it anyway for parrying's sake! Their most often used Arcane tools are the Tiny Tonitrus, Augur of Ebrietas and A Call Beyond. As you can probably tell, we are most enthusiastic about the Tiny Tonitrus and its ability to just one shot annoying kin enemies from a distance 😂 Please enjoy some not so HQ images of my little menace ✨️How they got so bloody I dont remember, just that it felt metal af to walk around like that against the snowy white scenery of Cainhurst tbqh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for this hunter as a character, I kind of didn't have one in mind at first! This profile started as just a catalyst for a new playstyle initially. However, that has definitely since changed. They're still a relatively new and unpolished addition to my roster since the majority of my creative time is devoted to Ruza My Beloved, but I am pursuing an interesting??? Set of concepts for this hunter too lmao. This is probably not news to anyone who has been in the fandom longer than me, but I read recently about the blue eyed scourge beasts from UCW and was enlightened to the fact those were actually "ascendant" scourge beasts with kin-like qualities, such as being weak only to thrust damage; most likely created from members of the Choir who were steeped in the Arcane and rich with Insight by time the scourge got to them, hence they basically became a different strain of scourge beast. I also spied a reddit thread that proposed the idea of the abhorrent beast/suspicious beggar being able to freely control his transformations into his beastly self and that what primarily made this character unique was his complete acceptance of said self. A sort of Beastly Embrace, you might say? 🤭
So tl;dr, I am workshopping this character rn as an Arcane Beast hunter who can freely control their beast self and for that beast self to be modelled after the blue eyed kin-like scourge beasts. Perhaps a renegade member of the choir who turned against their faction? I haven't fully decided yet, but we will see 😤✨️ Oh, and their name (for rn anyway) is Aloysha.

Thinking about how everyone talks about how arma always gets so much outside material of all the getter series, like it’s practically most of the merch and whenever getter is repped in crossovers-SRW or not-they always use arma as their iteration but probably due to the fact this a bit of obscure knowledge, I never hear anyone mention the fact arma afaik is the only getter anime to get some side stuff:
<In shin manga there is a singular bonus chapter that is set in armas verse that shows the end of the moon war, written and drawn by ishikawa himself <got its own audio drama cd midway through the shows production that covered events post moon wars but pre show, it also contained two songs that were character songs for go and ryoma, who their vas also sung for <In early 2000s, imagawa, the first director for the anime, in a magazine for a SRW manga he wrote his own three chapter manga that covered some of his ideas that didn’t make it in the final show after he left
Merch and crossover appearances are one thing but it’s kinda crazy how putting aside arc as it’s a full on adaptation, arma is the *only* anime to actually get some manga stuff even if it’s a few chapters, and a audio drama that’s like a hours worth of content on top of that. Like still kinda baffles me that during the whole period of the franchise post-ishikawas death that no one made mangas about any of the OVAs when each of them have potential for a prequel/sequel story that could just be a volume or so long, expect for arma getting a tiny bit of it. It’ll always be so weird to think about it’s the most popular iteration of the franchise despite there being a lot of disinterest for it in the mecha circles nowadays bc of how overused it is yet it’s clearly the one people care about the most and it seems early on it was so apparent it was the money maker.

well friends I have officially joined the Chronic Pain Club, it’s not great to be here, there’s a chance it’s only temporary but my gut says ‘hmm many doubts’ and I won’t really know for a couple of weeks anyway until my doctors appointment. So. Been navigating that for four days and well we’re navigating at least
#there’s some sort of apollo prophecy dodgeball meme joke here#re me being close to many people w/ chronic pain/illness and being a strong empath#and already using spoon theory periodically for the mental health shite#‘ha ha wow this is so useful I’m glad spoonies consider mental health strugglers part of this too!’ and then I need you to imagine#that very specific TUNK sound a dodgeball makes#those thoughts have been living in my brain this weekend. anyway#mark and di if you happen to see this. TUNK (the dodgeball sound)#maybe it’s more irony than prophecy but as I said the thoughts have been there#I went to urgent care then the er thurs night because I spent an entire workday and over 8 hrs in severe abd pain#and it started on the lower right side so of course worried about appendix/gallbladder/etc#urgent care said yeah go to the er cause no matter what you need diagnostic imaging#and they asked have you ever had ovarian cysts I said no but my mom has (there’s thoughts it can be genetic)#do an ultrasound and sure enough I’ve got em!#and doing some reading up after the fact ‘most are asymptomatic and go away on their own!’ I was like well fuck#I mean that’s great but I’ve already failed the requirements I had STRONG symptoms#ibuprofen didn’t do a thing for the pain. until yesterday the hydrocodone they prescribed was all that would#yesterday experimented with three ibuprofen and that does help thankfully#so yeah needless to say I’m not very optimistic this is a ‘goes away on it’s own’ kinda cyst#but my obgyn is really booked and even squeezing me in/getting me in sooner is two weeks away#which is okay I get it healthcare is a mess#but yeah that means chronic pain for the foreseeable future#¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it is what it is#we’re navigating at least that’s all I can ask for#very glad I have today off because it was a very eventful weekend and I need an additional rest day lmao#but started off with low spoons because didn’t sleep well + pain so we’ll see how today goes#Cassie rambles#chronic pain shite#I have the mental health shite tag. might as well start that one lmao /cries

man i know this is swinging a bat at the worlds angriest and most useless hornet's nest but i cant stop thinking about how ridiculous shipping discourse is. Babe if your activism and morality starts and ends at how other people consume fiction you're fully lost in the sauce. How is this your biggest concern. Like I know people can care about more than one thing but it just feels. SO asinine. even if you think that the way people ship or whatever IS a sign of like anything about their real actual life, why focus on the shipping and not... the actual things they have done, if there even are any. There are actual people doing things that cause harm right now in the physical world, like building oil pipelines through indiginous land and I promise it's a better use of energy to do something about local real-world issues than it is to get mad online at what media people use to unwind and how

This is mostly nonsense and I've mentioned it before, but I was thinking about dirk's mechanical splinters as an act of (ironically) outsourced self-regulation brought about by a) a complete mistrust of himself and b) a desire to compartmentalize and understand, in line with his aspect. As in, it's outright mentioned within the context of his interactions with Hal that dirk does not consider himself above his own manipulation, and as such has fostered a split within himself wherein he feels he has to view and process his actions outside of the context he is performing them in so as to be sure that they're not, well. Completely fucked. And see, observation like this would (in theory) be much easier if he could physically separate himself from his actions and as such understand them through the lens of the bystander; to act without assuming the consequences, like a simulation. Of course, this doesn't work in practice for a number of reasons, especially because at its core it's an attempt to do everything all by himself again. It's like baby's first attempt at playing at judge, jury, and executioner, all at once.
