“Lovely, it’s time to wake up.”

You groaned upon hearing your husband’s voice, feeling a hand gently shake your shoulder. Normally you wouldn’t mind it, but you were having a particularly good dream and weren’t ready to get up just yet. “Mmm…five minutes.” You snuggled into the pillow deeper.

Maxie tsked, and you could just see him shaking his head at you for your stubbornness. “(Y/N)...” You ignored him, letting your mind run with images of your dream. Was there a Ponyta? Or maybe-

“Don’t make me tickle you out of bed.”

You snapped your eyes open in shock, not daring to turn around. The hand that was previously resting on your shoulder was now resting on your hip, his thumb rubbing small circles against it. It didn’t tickle that much, but it was a threat. Get up or get wrecked.

“You wouldn’t dare…” You finally spoke, feeling him shake with mirth. “Oh I’d dare.”

Decisions decisions. Maxie was known to carry out his threats- especially those of the tickling variety. But you had found that sweet spot in the blankets where everything was the perfect amount of soft and comfortable. And your dream-wait; what was your dream about?

That redheaded sneak! He made you lose your dream!

This won’t do. Vengeance must be taken.

“Do your worst.” You declared, settling in for a battle. You had it all planned out now- the minute he goes to tickle you, you were gonna get him first! He’d be begging for mercy by the time you were done with him.

“Very well then. Remember, you asked for this.” The hand on your hip moved to your side, and you braced for impact. Just gotta wait for the right moment-there!

“Aheahhahahahahhaha! Mahahhahahahahahxie!” You squealed in mirth as your husband tickled your sides relentlessly, leaving you a giggly mess.

The plan was perfect! You had the best intentions of getting him.

That was until the blankets got in your way, betraying you.

“What’s wrong? What happened to all that confidence from earlier?” Maxie teased sweetly, delighted by the endless cackles and giggles you couldn’t hold back. Even with the blanket acting as a barrier between him and your tickle spots, he knew just the right amount of pressure to make sure you felt it. His fingers danced against your skin like he was playing a piano, each laugh you let out was like music to his ears. “Don’t tell me it was all a ploy to get me to tickle you?”

“Yohohohohohoohu huhuhuhuhuhuhush! Aheheahhahhahahha! Stahahhahahahap ihihihihiihiit!” Through your wiggling, you managed to get an arm free from your fabric trap, reaching out and giving your husband a few quick tickles to the neck. “Tahahhahahake thahhahhat!”

“Ah! Aheahhaha! Oh noohohoho you doohohohn’t!” He was faster, taking advantage of the space you’ve opened up with your arm and giving your ribs a proper squeeze, making you shriek. “No one tickles the great Maxie and gets away with it!”

“Bahahahahhahahahahbe! Ahehahahahahahahaha! Pleehahahahhahahhse ihiihihihiht reahhahlly tihiihihihckles!” You cackled, cheeks burning with heat, aching from how much you were smiling. “Ohohohoohohkay, ohohohohohohkay Iihihiihihihm uuhuhuhuhuhuhp! Now stahahhahahap!”

Maxie did as asked, removing his hands and plopping down beside you as you gasped for air. Through your blurry eyes, you could see him smiling, resting on his elbow and taking it all in. “Lihihike what you sehehee?” You asked.

“Very. Seeing you breathless and smiling is quite the view.” He reached out, cupping your cheek. “I should have said this earlier but, good morning, love.”

You laughed, leaning into his hand and returning the soft smile. “Good morning to you too.”

Randomly thinkin about Chilchuck today, and how he tries sooooo hard to self sabotage

like for example, other half foots on the island think that he's a greedy asshole who only cares about money, and he does nothing to try to disprove that

but then there's this omake at the end of book 9 that shows that people treat half foots fucking TERRIBLY and chilchuck started a union to protect them

and then in the bicorn chapter, he doesn't want Marcille to keep digging into his personal business so he tells her he CHEATED ON HIS WIFE

but he just COMPLETELY fuckin lied about that and made himself sound so much worse than he is bc he's afraid of being vulnerable with people and would rather everyone believes he's a shitty person so he can keep them at a distance

and the thing that's memed so often is that he refuses to help with fighting most of the time because it's not part of his contract

but if you take this lore into account (not gonna add those particular images to this post simply bc I've used them in so many posts already LMAO) along with this tidbit from the world guide:

then it's like. yeah he has to keep his weight low so if he gets killed or severely injured and has to be healed, that could be really dangerous for him. and even if he was healed at that point he'd end up being a burden to the party after that point, he would be too dangerously thin/sickly to be able to help.

Like, Chilchuck has so many things about him that APPEAR to be character flaws, but every single one of them has a very reasonable explanation. He just leans into the mischaracterization bc he's emotionally withholding and can handle people thinking he's an asshole more than he can handle opening up to anyone. he's such a well thought out and interesting character
