His S/o Adopts a Cat Headcanons and Scenario; Edgar Allan Poe

I am in love with this man.

Anyways, one day you were strolling down the street, minding your own business. You had just bought some snacks for you and your boyfriend since Poe didn’t want to go out and run this errand himself.

As you walked by an alleyway, you heard faint meowing. Curious, you decided to investigate the noise. You walked into the alleyway and you found out what was producing the cute little noise; a small black cat. You picked up the noise box and noticed that they didn’t have a collar or have any indication of being someone’s house pet. You smiled as you put the little kitty on your shoulder, then started your voyage home.

When you were halfway home, you stumbled across a pet store that you frequented for Karl. Deciding it would be best, you entered the store and bought cat food, treats, a cat bed, a few toys, and a collar. You haven’t named the strange little furball yet, so you didn’t get a name engraved on the medal tag that hung on the collar. Instead, you only got your home address and name on it. Eventually you would come back, so you decided to think about a name for a while.

When you got home, you put the bags in the kitchen, then immediately went to go see your boyfriend. You didn’t know what his reaction would be, but you hoped for the best.

You knocked on the door to his study with the cat still on your shoulder. Poe said you could come in, so you did.

Immediately he noticed the cat and started to mildly freak out.

What if this cat would hurt Karl or him?

What if this cat took up all of your attention?

What if you loved this cat more than him?

He was anxious.

Poe asked where you got the cat, and you answered truthfully.

When you two were talking about the cat, they hopped down from your shoulder and ran up to Karl. Poe held his breath as he watched the two. Would they fight? Would they hurt each other?

When the cat started to inspect Karl, they flopped down on their side and started to play with his tail. Then Karl started to play with the cats tail. You started to chuckle. They seemed to get along just fine.

Over time Poe had gotten used to the cat. You had named the cat Pluto, and it turned out she was a girl.

Poe treated the cat much like Karl. It was a cute sight.

Karl had also loved Pluto as well. The two played, cuddled, ate, and slept together all the time.

Sometimes you’d catch the three all snuggled up in bed when you just got home from work.

Adopting that cat was one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.

Scenario…

You had just gotten home from work with a sigh. Working at the Agency was a very stressful job. Sometimes you wondered if you should take a few weeks off so you can mentally recover from the weight on your shoulders.

“Love?” You called out.

You took off your coat and hung it up. You then walked around the house. Eventually you were face to face with Poe’s study. You knocked on the door a few times before you awaited for an answer.

“Come in,” a quiet voice said.

You opened the door to the study, and observed the sight in front of you. Poe was typing away at his typewriter, not even sparing you a glance. He had a plate of food near him, which surprised you. Usually he forgot to feed himself while he was working, so this was a welcomed sight.

You sat down on a chair nearby. You looked around the room, fondly smiling at the countless books in the bookcases Poe had. You have read every book he had, each one with a certain fond memory that you could easily recall. Curious, you glanced at your boyfriend.

“How is the new book coming?” You asked, slightly louder than normal.

Poe jumped only the slightest bit, then raised his right index finger to his mouth.

“Please, speak quieter,” he mumbled.

You nodded. “Is something the matter?”

He shook his head no, then rolled back on his chair. On his lap you found Pluto and Karl sleeping, cuddling each other subconsciously. A small smile crept on your face at the sight.

“How precious,” you whispered.

Poe nodded as he got back to work. “I’m.. happy that they love each other.”

“You and I both.” You leaned your head back on the chair, looking up at the ceiling.

You’re just so happy that the three you love the most get along.

also, pluto is a reference to a cat in one of the real edgar allan poes works. it’s a short story called “The Black Cat”, and the cats name is pluto. i thought i was clever LMAO
