can i ask for a small favor? can you rant about daemon targaryen please? i just re-read your team green 💚 post and i'm reminded of how much ick i feel towards that character, especially in the wake of the team trailers being released.

my thoughts about daemon are very convoluted. i think he has the potential to be a very interesting character but it's kinda canceled out by the incest and pedophilia thing.

like. i understand it's an incest dragon show but my main issue with team black when it comes to their criticisms. they love to spout endless words about how aegon is a rapist and how alicent is a rape apologist for not... idk slitting his throat i guess.

it's really ironic to me, because these same people will turn around and then yap about how daemyra is the perfect ship. they'll be aghast when you even slightly suggest you enjoy aegon's character in any way but be in an uproar if you dare bash their dashing and roguish prince daemon.

honestly, name one terrible thing aegon did and i'll be able to give you something daemon did that is arguably worse than that.

aegon - raping a servant girl in the show (which honestly i'm treating more as a fanfiction considering how terribly written both the greens and the blacks are).

daemon - uhmmmm probably the whole thing with nettles. you know. the sixteen year old girl he groomed and raped (yes raped because minors aren't able to consent). actually, now that i think of it, he did the exact same thing with rhaenyra too, huh? or does team black find the whole fleabottom episode to be hot and rhaenyra being sexually free? that seems like the sort of thing they'd take from that whole fiasco.

on the topic of blood & cheese: the way some people defend this is honestly sickening.

'but poor luke was killed by his terrible uncle aemond' he was an envoy of war (not to aemond, btw, he owed him no safe haven) and also he kinda. yk. took out his eye. i'm not saying luke deserved to die, but i'm going to be honest this is one of the more mild things that happened during the dance.

whether luke deserved to die (which i'd like to reiterate: i do not think he did. i can understand WHY aemond killed him, but that is not me EXCUSING him. this is for those of you who don't know how to read and will inevitably find a way to start putting words in my mouth) b&c is completely unexcusable.

it's team feminism until its a woman who doesn't fit your little box of badass hottie. it's team feminism until that woman doesn't bow down to rhae-rhae and betray her own family and children in order to join the 'good side.' it's team woman until you point out that rhaenyra was groomed by daemon and continues to make decisions that are decidedly anti-feminist.

this is why i can't stand team black stans who say things like 'i hate the greens except for helaena bc she didn't do anything wrong' because you quite literally cannot do that without admitting that helaena suffered because of the blacks NOT the greens.

helaena suffered bc of DAEMON not because of any actions taken by the greens. DAEMON was the one who orchestrated b&c, the one who sent men to terrorize her and kill her children.

daemon did that.

i have no problem with people who can admit that their faves have flaws. i admit aemond's flaws, daeron's flaws, aegon's flaws. the problem i have with daemon is that his stans are so insufferably annoying and they literally cannot do any of that.

my last thought about daemon (at the moment, at least) is his relationship with strong boys.

lots of tb likes to say that daemon loved those boys like his own and would never do anything to hurt them. and i... honestly find it a little strange, and also a little embarassing, because how am i going to have a better grasp on his character than those that love him most???

i genuinely believe that daemon, had rhaenyra ascended to the throne like viserys planned, he would have caused 'unfortunate accidents' for the strong boys in order to get his blood on the throne. which, btw, was one of the main reasons viserys named rhaenyra heir, to keep daemon from sitting on the throne.

i think it the succession crisis had been between daemon and rhaenyra instead, it would have been a much more interesting storyline.

then again grrm isn't that good at writing interesting storylines when it comes to daemon considering he's a self-insert. honestly i wouldn't be surprised if when he died it was found out that grrm had a fanfiction written somewhere where daemon survived the fight with aemond and got to live out the rest of his boring ass life grooming little girls. who knows.

I don’t know where you got the notion i hate Rose Tyler. I really really don’t. I love her coming back in series 4, I love her returning and no I don’t like her being ‘forever doomed’. I like it because it’s tragic, but it gets resolved later. I’m assuming you’re on about the ‘it’s my ending’ tag, which isn’t even in relation to Rose. It’s my ending because it’s so enjoyable, it focuses on the Tyler’s and the doctorrose relationship and even if the Dalek/Cybermsn battle needed more time, it was just fun.

Rose Tyler has always been an interesting character and I love her. Sure, i can pick out her flaws (which I’ve never done on tumblr), but you can do that with anyone.

I don’t ‘pretend’ to ship ninerose, tenrose or tentoorose (yk the non tragic ending for them), because I genuinely enjoy them.

I know Ten loved Rose more than Martha, that’s kind of the whole point. They are endgame, they have been canon forever, she is the love of his life. He was born out of love for her, tailored to be her ideal match and to love her like nobody else. Of course he loved her more than anyone else. And she loved him because despite his flaws he’s shown her a new way of life, she’s seen him change and grow and that means something. For fucks sake, she absorbed the heart of the TARDIS and became Bad Wolf. It’s down to them both loving each other, like she chose Tentoo yk?

What I think this is though is that you do not think I can like both. You do not think I can both love Rose and Martha. It’s always one or the other with no fucking leeway. Because I like Martha and because I like Doomsday, suddenly I don’t want Rose to be happy. I’m aware nothing I say here will actually ever convince I am not a hater who just cannot stomach a teenage girl being a teenage girl and that I want to burn her to the ground for the crime of not being Martha Jones. I didn’t even post the Doomsday post in any fandom tags…

Thoughts on CoD dudebros that attempt to gatekeep their "role" characters? Over the course of last year it's funny how many i've seen upset that Laswell has a wife because they genuinely thought Price was "bonking" her according to them. Even more so going as far as to say that they'd be into experimental poly relationship. And don't get me started on YT side of the base where people say stuff like Soap & Valeria, Ghost & Milena double date, it's hilarious really. But god forbid you post anything about GhostSoap remotelly romantic. It's like hellfire out there.

Oh man that's a good question. I haven't actually thought too hard on that tbh. Funny timing because I literally watched an opinion piece on YT on what they [the male fanbase] thought on mwiii(23).

I think people want to read into things as they prefer. People are so conditioned in these action movie style sort of storylines to assume Man + Women talking = relationship. And in that sense I can see why people would ship Price and Laswell because they do have a friendly relationship, one that implies years of knowing one another. (though Valeria and Milena /soap or ghost?? Why??)

I think the biggest shame is the fact that male and female platonic friendships are so rare in these instances that for a significant part of that vocal fanbase, it blows their mind to have heterosexual friendships that are just that: friendships.

And it's always a bit ironic we have this situation when you have those dudebros pile on the ghostsoap ship and say, "can't friendships just be friendships, stop making everything gay". Can't friendships just be friendships, stop making everything het.

Bro, we ain't making anything gay, it's there in the text. Call the spade a spade. They flirt with each other. I can even pull up the receipts and go through every bit of possibility and still think, wow, even them joking is pretty sus with all the context. Especially when it's Ghost who flirts back, out of all people—the man who is so emotionally constipated that showing his face and letting people use his name is a Big Deal™.

I always wonder what that fanbase would make of these meta posts. In a weird way, I do sort of welcome that critique. It would be interesting to see what would come out of that.

I mean, yeah you can read Ghost and Soap's relationship however you want. But it's definitely not something as clear cut as, "they're just friends. That's what brothers in arms are like. You just don't understand!" sort of thing. I think reducing them down to 'just friends' would be doing a disservice to how much Soap meant to Ghost in terms of the actual codmwii plot line.

The nice thing is that despite all the differences we all have with each other, we as an entire fanbase all agree on this: Codmwiii(23) has the worst campaign out of all codmw games.

The storyline sucked and didn't go anywhere. The ending was there for shock factor. It didn't really add anything to the story aside from making one feel upset. It was sloppy storytelling, and it really felt like it could've been better.

But yeah. Lol 😂 sorry for the rant guys. Hope you enjoyed the Ted Talk.

Ok so for about a good two-three months now I had a post in my drafts about how I realized I ship Powser, and long story short I started comparing Bowser to what I think to be how most villains in media interact with their damsel in distress if they express “love” for them. Issue is, I don’t have nearly enough knowledge/examples on this topic to know how truthful this comparison is, but said comparison is also the main thing tying this post together. So when thinking of ways to remove this element while still having all the same info in this post, I kind of came up short. Plus, I like the way the post is structured as is.

In other words, here’s the post as I originally wrote it, but be aware that the comparison is probably very flawed. Maybe there’s some truth to it, probably not. In any case, just focus on the Powser side of it, the villain comparison is just there for the structure. Enjoy! (long post ahead, a bit over 3k words)

So I recently realized that I really like Powser which I did NOT expect given I’m usually much more of a “friends to lovers” type of person, and trying to understand why I like it led me to think about how villains tend to be presented in their relationship with the “damsel in distress”, and it’s actually very interesting when you compare it to Bowser.

TL;DR: Unlike most villains who showcase sexual attraction (I think?), Bowser is shown to be romantically attracted to Peach. And while his actions are still very much shitty and should be seen as such, man is he adorable sometimes ! Plus, the way his feelings are shown to be genuine makes him look better than most villains, whose “love” for their victim is portrayed as """creepy lust""" by their medias.

(Obviously there is absolutely nothing inherently wrong with sexual attraction. I’m talking in the context of medias that sometimes tend to vilify it, especially when it comes to the antagonists, hence the language used in this post.)

So the first thing that came in mind while thinking of other villains was Dis//ney’s Alad//din (the 90s/animated one) and how Jaf/ar treats Jasm/ine at the end of the movie, more specifically when he wishes for her to fall in love with him and she ends up pretending to be as a distraction.

Thing is, Jasm/ine doesn’t act like she’s in love with Jaf/ar, she acts like she’s thirsting for him, and the way Jaf/ar reacts shows that this is pretty much what he had in mind when saying he wants her to love him. This isn’t love, it’s lust.

Now, I can’t say I’m someone who watches a lot of movies, especially not live-actions ones, so take what I’m about to say with a huge grain of salt. Basically, I kinda feel like what we see in Alad/din is the norm when it comes to villain/victim relationships? Like you have those antagonists who want the damsel in distress to be horny for them, who don’t see those women as people and don’t give a shit about them, only keeping them to get what they want out of them and having no issue discarding them afterwards if they get bored with those poor girls.

Btw that’s not to say that every single villain who kidnaps someone wants to sleep with them. But when it comes to villains who claim to love their victim, there does seem to be at least some sexual tension here, or at least some uncomfortable touches.

And then there’s Bowser. To give a few examples of what he does:

- In that one 1986 anime movie thing, he gets very soft around Peach, gushing about how he’s in love with her and wants to marry her, trying to cheer her up when she’s sad, and let’s not forget that “it’s more of a bracelet, shows that my love is bigger” line with the ring.

- In the mainline “platformers” games, you have “Mario Sunshine” in which Bowser wants his son to have a mother, and “Mario Odyssey” in which he tries to marry Peach, going around the world gathering all the absolute best things for the wedding. There’s also the New Bros U intro with Bowser gently moving Peach’s chair, making sure she doesn’t get hurt by his attack, showing he doesn’t want to hurt her.

- Not sure exactly if this counts as this could be a form of objectification, but you know that cliché of villains getting that all-powerful thing they wanted and immediately betraying/discarding all the people they worked with and/or claimed to love? Well, in the Galaxy games, Bowser gets the power to create a whole new universe, and yet still takes the time to capture Peach, claiming in the first game that he wants her to rule along with him. Again, this could be a form of objectification, especially when looking at his dialogue in the intro of the second game, but it’s still interesting how Bowser doesn’t really fall on that trope, still having his army and Junior on top of Peach (btw the intro of Galaxy 2 is very funny on that front because Bowser literally has enormous powers and yet still makes a detour for Peach, thus causing Mario to be on his tail. Like, let her go dude, she’s not that into you. You got all the powers of the universe, who cares about that one specific woman when you could have literally anybody else?).

- In the first Paper Mario game, Bowser tells Peach that he would fulfill her wishes if she wants (as long as he likes them) and gushes in his diary about how he hopes Peach likes him. And in Thousand Years Doors, he keeps trying to look for her upon hearing she got kidnapped.

- In Super Paper Mario, he gets overjoyed about the wedding but still immediately shows worry for Peach when Nastasia uses her mind control on her, and in general Bowser spends the game clearly loving being able to call Peach his wife, and joins the team again in 7-2 out of concern for her safety. Same with 8-1 where for all he knows he’s about to die and yet his main concern is her safety, to the point where he's willing to ask Mario to protect her for him. His priority is not being with Peach, instead it's Peach being safe.

- In Color Splash, the first thing he does when first getting back to himself during the fight is ask if Mario brought Peach with him.

- In Origami King, he doesn’t want her to see him as a wet floor sign and later asks Olly if Peach is safe and comfortable, which as I’ve seen pointed out implies that him capturing Peach is mostly a forced vacation/sleepover until Mario arrives and she’s put on the spot for show.

(- In general Paper Bowser is a huge hopeless romantic, at least from what I’ve seen of him.)

- In Superstar Saga he helps Mario and Luigi reach the Bean Kingdom for Peach’s sake. Then in Bowser’s Inside Story his most beloved and protected memories are his memories of Peach + he makes saving her his priority towards the end. And in Dream Team, he hears a rumor that Peach might have gotten kidnaped and immediately flies all the way to Pi’illo Island to find her.

- You cannot convince me that his car in Mario 3D World wasn’t an attempt to impress Peach, given this is one of the only two games (three with Wonder) where you play as her and face against him. /hj

- In that one old comic people kept bringing up after the movie came out, Bowser spends a lot of time gushing about marrying Peach. Also despite Peach being very temperamental in this comic, I don’t think Bowser once tries to hurt her? Obviously you have the Magikoopa brainwashing her at the end which is fucked up but outside of that does Bowser ever get angry or menacing when it comes to her?

- In general, outside of the games where Peach is playable and the intro of Inside Story (which comes off as OOC for Bowser tbh, I get him being pissed off but him trying to burn Peach is just really off), do we ever get to see Bowser raise a hand on her and/or try to physically hurt her? Same for his anger, how often do we get to see him raise his voice on her? And no the sports and party games don’t count since everyone is doing the same thing to everyone else in those, and in the party games it'd be unfair if playing that one character led to Bowser going easy on the player.

Now I might be missing some more moments, especially since I’m far from the most knowledgeable on the sport/party games and some RPGs (slowly making my way through them), but there’s one thing that is very obvious: while most villains express sexual attraction for the damsel in distress, Bowser expresses romantic attraction.

Bowser genuinely cares for Peach. She’s one of his most precious memories. In Super Paper, he snaps out of the joy of getting married when Peach is getting brainwashed, showing how much he values her safety. He absolutely adores her and isn’t afraid to express it, especially Paper Bowser.

Those two instances (Inside story and Super Paper) especially really seem to lean into how much Bowser loves Peach. In Inside Story, the fact that she’s his most well-preserved memory shows just how much he values the little time he spends with her and how important she is to him, not as some pretty face but as a person he genuinely wants to create more memories with. And in Super Paper, Bleck is giving him the one thing he’s always wanted, and yet he still shows some reticence when Nastasia uses her mind control, making it look like Peach being safe and sound is more important to him than them being a couple. Idk, those two moments just really get to me when you think about it this way.

(Btw in Super Paper I adore that Peach hesitates to leave him in 8-1 because, while we know Peach is incredibly kind so of course she’d be worried for a teammate, for once it feels like Bowser actually earned it. He spends the whole game being caring towards Peach, and wouldn’t you know, being nice and respectful to someone actually makes them care for you! I swear the Powser potential from this game is unmatched!)

When most villains say “I want this woman to love me”, they usually mean “I want this woman to obey and submit to my every want”. When Bowser says “I want Peach to love me”, he means “I want to be able to wake up everyday by her side, make her smile and laugh and be happy, see her be a mother to my kid(s), learn more about her and spend as much time with her as I can”. Bowser isn’t trying to marry Peach because he wants to “own” her, he wants to marry her because he quite literally wants to spend the rest of his life by her side.

Now that’s not to say that Bowser doesn’t feel any form of sexual attraction. But since Mario is such a kids-friendly franchise, the focus is much more on his romantic feelings. Also, I'll admit, whether Bowser is in love with Peach or with the idea of Peach is up for debate.

I think that’s the main reason why so many people are quick to call Bowser sweet/adorable when seeing the way he talks about Peach. Because the thing is, Bowser is still being a complete asshole here. He’s constantly kidnapping her, putting her in a cage on several occasions, forced her to marry him like 6 different times, very often disregards her body autonomy by grabbing her (+ the kidnappings), terrorizes and sometimes even tortures/kills her people, and his phone pic in the parental controls video + the picture frames in Nintendo World make him look like a creep. Despite his feelings for her, there’s definitely a level of objectification here that should not be ignored.

Hell, I didn’t mention the 2023 movie on the list because I’d argue he was more obsessed rather than in love. Plus the scene where he proposes to her low-key feels like the very first time they meet, making his previous actions creepier (or at the very least they barely know each other, heck Peach didn’t even know Bowser likes her!). And he’s quick to use blackmail and violence against her, especially in the end. The wedding cake toppers also show he cares more about himself than Peach and sees her as an object rather than a person.

(I actually take back what I said in my movie reaction post about Bowser being like the one from Super Paper. He might be goofy when showing his softer side, which was what I was focused on when comparing the two, but he’s also clearly not as genuine and sweet as Paper Bowser. The way he mistreats his army and especially Kamek in the movie is also different from most games, most notably the RPGs since that’s when we see him interact with his people and he’s a relatively good king to them.)

Compare 2023 Movie Bowser to the 1986 movie in which he tries to get Peach involved in the wedding preparations, tries to cheer her up, never gets angry at her despite how much she’s resisting him and never once raises his hand on her. Even when she outsmarts him by making him shapeshift, he’s amused by her attempt. Literally the worse he does in this movie is grab her against her will on many occasions (and obviously the kidnaping and forced marriage, that goes without saying).

Going back on topic, despite Bowser being very much horrible in the way he approaches Peach, since every other villain out there is lusting after the woman they capture, making them appear creepy/predatory, Bowser comes off as an angel in comparison. He’s one of those rare cases of a villain who is truly sincere about his feelings for the woman he captures, and since we see other occasions of him being a sweetheart (with Junior) and a dumbass (the RPG series), he becomes an incredibly endearing character. So his feelings for Peach come off as adorable despite the bad elements because we’re aware he has a soft side so we know he’s truly sincere. Him being sometimes more of an antihero in the RPGs + his inclusion in sports games and the like probably also help seeing him in that good light.

(Also yes I’m very much aware that there’s a huge issue when it comes to how fandoms perceive female characters, and I will absolutely believe you if you tell me this is one of the reasons why you have people who talk shit about Peach so much all while defending Bowser’s actions, especially since his feelings for Peach are so rooted into his character. Oh and obviously you have the people horny for Bowser who love his softer/romantic side and value the moments where he displays this part of himself, that goes without saying.)

I’m especially surprised by the 1986 movie showing such a characterization of him, considering it came out 1-2 years after the very first Super Mario game (aka Bowser’s first appearance, at least I think?). Like imagine making a movie about those characters and going “hey you know the giant turtle monster we fight in this game? What if he was a huge lovable dork who just wanted some love in his life?”. Tbh I adore that choice.

Overall, it’s just interesting to see how Bowser differs from other villains on that front. It’s very interesting to see a villain who does pretty terrible things to a girl all the while being genuine in his feelings for her, idk it’s a very cool contrast. I also like how “true love” tends to be a motivation for the heroes, seen as something good, so it’s fun to see stories where villains have that very same motivation without it being “““twisted””” with lust. And yes I know that last point applies to many more antagonists than just Bowser, and not just for feelings like love.

And a bit off-topic but I also really like how you can easily explain Bowser’s behavior here (not justifying it tho!!!). In the Yoshi Island games, we see he was raised as a spoiled brat who was always given what he wanted, made worse by him being a monarch. We even still see some of that behavior in his adult self, for example when he gets angry and starts stomping his foot like a kid throwing a tantrum.

As a result of his upbringing, Bowser likely just doesn’t know how to take a no. He’s used to always get what he wants, and take it by force if necessary. So when Peach refuses him, he does just that, incapable of understanding why she doesn’t want him.

The 86 movie is actually an excellent example of this. In two scenes (the one with Peach outsmarting him and the ring dialogue) we see Bowser getting worked up when Peach is upset, showing he genuinely wants her to be happy. But at the same time he’s incapable of realizing that he’s the reason why she’s so upset and the one thing he should do is let her go. The ring scene especially shows it very well. When Peach throws the ring and starts crying because she doesn’t want to get married, Bowser thinks she’s upset due to the ring being too big and immediately tries to soothe her by promising to get a better ring. Again, it’s kinda crazy how this movie was made when Bowser only existed for a single year and yet they already made him genuinely in love with Peach.

I’d also add that Bowser seems to have a pretty high opinion of himself, thinking he’s awesome and shit (or maybe he’s overcompensating, that seems like a possibility). As a result, it’s possible that his mentality on the situation is “Well I’m in love with her so surely she must love me! How could she not?”, making it even harder for him to comprehend why she doesn’t love him.

Again, it doesn’t justify his actions in the slightest but it’s still interesting how you can somewhat understand why he’s like this.

And as to why I ship Powser, honestly I still have no idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think it has to do with the storytelling potential of a unrequited love/it’s complicated/they have history situation in regards to their roles as monarchs, especially in the case of Peach whose character is brimming with untapped potential. I actually like to describe their relationship as “I hate the effect you have on my life but I couldn’t imagine a life without you in it” or “Our kingdoms are enemies for a good reason but if anything happened to you I’d rush in to save you without hesitation”. It's just that idea of them being ex-lovers who had a bad falling out and how Peach still cares about him to an extent and how their lives constantly intertwine with villains trying to take over their kingdoms + Bowser's kidnappings.

And since we’re talking Powser and since wondering whether they know each other or not in the movie got me to question how we can tell they know each other in the games: the best way I could describe their relationship in the games is familiar/”comfortable”, like you have the way Peach tries to convince Bowser to join the group in Super Paper, the way she talks about him in general in the Mario and Luigi games, or stuff like most cutscenes in Odyssey where she never seems afraid of Bowser.

I’ve also seen that Switch Tennis game with the evil racket and how Peach is the one who tries to get through to Bowser when he steals it, straight up saying “listen to me” which makes it seem like she knows she’s the one person who could get him to stop, or you have the first Rabbids game where she comments on how “Junior is sometimes even worse than his father”, plus the way she looks like a mother about to reprimand her child in the cutscene where Jr learns Bowser is coming home (which I find hilarious; lady that’s not your kid, I thought we’d been through this already in Sunshine!). Oh and CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE WAY SHE’S LOOKING AT HIM IN (spoilers in link) THAT CUTSCENE FROM THE NEW RABBIDS 2 DLC!!!

I don’t know how to fully explain but, looking at these kinds of interactions, you can tell that the two of them know each other, and to an extent Peach knows that Bowser won’t hurt her, hence why she’s not afraid to oppose him. It’s pretty funny actually how in the games Peach tends to be exasperated by Bowser more than anything else. Like he’s not a menace, just a weekly annoyance. And again, when you compare it to the movie where there’s only hostility and awkwardness between them, you do get the impression that they’re two complete strangers meeting for the first time. The fact Movie Peach had no idea about his feelings for her doesn’t help either. Then again, about the hostility, Peach in the games is much sweeter so maybe she shows a nicer side to Bowser because that’s just who she is.

So, in the foundation of the "Westfall-in love" or whatever you're calling katrina/nathanos. (Dragonblight?) Does she end up developing feelings for Anduin, given his affinity for attachments to black dragons...

Do we have minor appearances? Jaina? Vanessa? How are they coping with/not helping?

Dragonblight is hilarious I'm calling it that now.

I mean it depends on what the feelings are IMO? I don't think romantic ones necessarily (mostly because I'm not even sure if she had romantic feelings towards Varian?). I've debated Onyxia/Anduin in a different context and I think it suffers from my same inability to ship Wranduin, which is I don't actually think Anduin could tolerate them at length. The dynamic makes for nice and crunchy character interactions and I really do enjoy those, but I can't ship it.

I do really like fucked up parent/child adjacent relationships that despite their ups and downs, end up rather amicable (I think the Lightbringer series did that?), and they'd have such a weird one. Anduin who is viciously honest and unrepentant in his beliefs for peace and goodness but also isn't above doing underhanded shit for said beliefs would be infuriating with glimmers of "you're not so bad kid." They of course both hate this too.

In terms of other characters

This is, in my mind, taking place in lieu of the Gathering shit, and Jaina is AWOL at this point, and depending how fast the wedding shit takes place misses it entirely (this would be HILARIOUS news to break to her when she gets back from her therapy boating trip btw. I'd be jealous of whoever got the honor.)

I don't imagine Vanessa would have any part of this (I'm guessing this was brought up because of my 'Vanessa is a black dragon' post and the image of that being true in tandem with a living Onyxia is a hilarious one but it's a digression too far rn. I need to live in the space a bit to consider that and I'm doing broad strokes right now).

All the Horde leaders are expecting this to be a shitshow. I'm split between they're getting a sense of schadenfreude (as iirc none of them really like Nathanos) but there's a looming sense of immense danger with it, or them genuinely feeling sorry for Nathanos because Sylvanas just dumped (this on) him.

Lor'themar and Halduron are betting on how long before this explodes because they KNOW how Sylvanas is about Nathanos. (Halduron is convinced it'll be fine because he doesn't believe she's capable of feeling love, Lor'themar points out how you don't need to feel love to feel every other emotion involved with seeing a guy you obsessed over marry another woman.)

Baine was cautiously optimistic about this until he heard it was Nathanos and Katrana getting married.

No one on the Alliance knows what exactly to think about with this. I don't think anyone really likes Katrana but also no one likes the thought of a black dragon being close with the Horde either so it's kind of an impasse.

Genn and Katrana are at least having fun shit talking all of this in the wedding prep because if there's one thing old people like doing its complain.

reddit users often have awful opinions, but every so often i do enjoy going on the bnha subreddit and seeing what people have to say about the newest chapter. sometimes it's funny even if most of the people there annoy me lol idk. but anyway, something very curious that i'm seeing about the comments regarding the ch 359 leaks is people acknowledging that the original text seems to directly say bakugou is not just "close" to deku but "the closest" to him (obviously not an Exact exact translation but that seems to be the intention) while also being quick to denounce any potential romantic meaning to that lol. now, bkdk doesn't Have to be fully romantic for me to appreciate their relationship (i really appreciated ur queerplatonic post about them btw) but it is very funny to see people rushing to go "but friends can be this close it doesn't mean it's anything romantic!" before anyone even suggests that it could be. all it took was someone asking for clarification on what the proper translation is, with no mention of shipping or romance, for nearly every reply to bring romance up. it just feels like they're basically admitting that they themselves see a statement like that and naturally take it to mean something romantic, and are desperate to prove otherwise. it's very... interesting to say the least hehe.

I also think it’s really interesting to see their genuine point of view sometimes. This right here is getting right to the heart of the societal connotations of different kinds of relationships. They’re quick to attach “friend” to it because that puts Izuku and Katsuki in a neat little box that’s safe from their ship. Romantic relationships are generally ranked highest for most people (this is not a good thing nor how it should be imo, but that’s another story) so when you translate Shigaraki’s comment as “closest friend” it still leaves room for someone else to be even closer. “Friend” brings them down a notch since romantic partners are automatically closer than friends. When you translate it as “closest person” or “closest relationship” not only is it more accurate to the original Japanese which uses a term with no specific platonic or romantic connotation, it implies that Izuku and Katsuki are so close to the point of usurping the throne of romance. It implies that this isn’t some cliche story where the girl can suddenly waltz in and become more important to the main character than the guy he had more chemistry and emotional connection with the whole time.

The fact is, though Izuku and Katsuki are currently more friendly with each other than they have ever been, “friend” is not and never has been a word big enough to describe their deeply complex relationship. I have always loved this about them. Shigaraki calling them friends would seem trite and it would lack all of the emotional weight that’s sure to be reflected in future chapters.

This ask was sent before fanscans came out but I’m ranting about that too. If Caleb also calls them friends in officials it will be because of the fact that “closest friend” does not mean the same thing as “closest person,” and because he and others expect—not understand, expect—that title of closest person to belong to Ochako. Not because that’s what Horikoshi actually meant.

this is from the ship ask game but I decided to make this it's own post bc danorge is special okay? okay.

first of all, an ideal daniel ship for me is always him being a perfect babygirl and being treated accordingly. just like I would. he's my country wife, my baby boy, my hot piece of ass and he needs to know is. now, george is the perfect man for this.

the dynamic

I'm gonna be honest, this ship sort of snuck up on me, I didn't expect it to take off quite as much? like, I know Daniel likes the young guys, bc he likes fucking around and fucking with them bc they think he's fun and look up to him you know? he likes the peer pressure. and george didn't seem the kind of guy to be that subjectible to this bc he's always been very focused, correct, driven, etc. although as I got to know him a bit better I realised he does like some shenanigans (eurotruck with charles you will always be famous.).

anyway, I think one of the reasons why their friendship grew so well is that george is so incredibly earnest in his admiration of the people around him, and fiercely loyal. I think george would never be that guy who has to act cool around his friends. he's the type of guy to hype his friends up to others, and that's what he does with Daniel. like that post that goes sth like hyping my boyfriend up before he enters a room like you better clap for my specialest little boy. that's literally george with daniel. that's his babygirl, his country wife.

now, I think that perhaps daniel liked the way george engaged with his banter from early on, like when he asked for his merch, I mean that was still fanboy ish behaviour, but more recently, when Dan struggled, he was so so loyal and always defending Daniel to the press, I think he really did become a close friend. emotional support brit. like I said, george is really really loyal, you can see that in his other relationships with drivers (alex and lewis mainly) and it seems like he's really a safe person for daniel. I mean look how danny clings to him. adorable. (sth sth the child in me is safe with you etc). I just love seeing how genuinely at ease dan seems in every interaction with george..

I've been trying to put my finger on something and I might be getting close.

I think a number of posts about Edward's character and his social relationships have - perhaps inadvertently - gotten a bit caught up in the negative space of what Edward isn't. It's not uncommon to see people start from the premise that Edward has an extremely limited set of traits that actually count as "personal" - like enjoying fashion, being silly... The stuff he bonds with Stede over, pretty much. Plus a dash of childhood trauma and racial / class struggles. Those become both the only truly Edward things that other characters can genuinely like, appreciate, or empathize with about him, and the only meaningful things worth engaging in with others to Edward himself. Everything else is just persona, or work stuff, or keeping up appearances, or otherwise false and shallow.

From that premise, it does logically follow that Stede is his closest person (the system is built off of his standard), and several Revenge crew have had bonding moments (Frenchie at the party, and Lucius helping with the breakup), but overwhelmingly Edward has wholly disappeared behind Blackbeard to nearly everyone who knows him. Izzy and the rest of his crew before Stede obviously didn't know he would enjoying wearing a silk robe in the evenings, and therefore they didn't know the real Edward at all.

Only... That's not really how people work???

Sticking with completely surface level readings for an example, Izzy basically says to Edward's face that he likes and respects him for being brilliant. Point this out, and you get chided that he only likes Blackbeard for being brilliant, not Edward. But... Edward is brilliant? Izzy isn't basing this belief on legends. He's on the human side of the fuckery. He knows that Edward reads weather patterns out of the clouds and uses powder and harnesses to descend out of smoke. Hell, he even sees Edward fuck up more than once. He's not talking about some inhuman power there. He's acknowledging what Edward - purely Edward! - has actually done that Izzy has seen with his own two eyes. And he thinks it was brilliant!

There you go. One actual thing about the real Edward that Izzy likes, and that Edward definitely seems to appreciate getting recognition for. (Stede, btw, likes his brilliance in much the same way.) Just because it's a part of him that he also uses for being Blackbeard doesn't make it a lesser or shallower aspect of Edward.

Edward is so charismatic. I bet his crew thinks he's super funny. He's likely a decent sparring partner and pretty fun and creative with that too. Excellent storyteller. Do we think he cheats at cards or is he just naturally lucky? Or maybe he loses every hand, lol. He's got that "car keys in the fridge" ADHD which can totally be endearing to people who know you, and no way in hell does a man who puts 7 sugars in his tea like a psychopath hide a hell of a sweet tooth for 20 years, ship life or no. I bet he always got so excited about fresh fruit.

There are So Many Things that could have been part of knowing Edward during his decades of piracy that are also authentic 100% Edward things. Some of them he probably worked into his Blackbeard mask, and some of them are the dumb little shit that makes a person themselves. Most probably come up in sailing / piracy stuff because piracy is his life.

Like, the stuff Edward has been repressing is also authentic Edward stuff, and it is clearly meaningful for him to finally be expressing it, but I don't think it makes sense to conflate "being surprised by new facets of Edward (that are coming seemingly out of nowhere during a mid-life crisis)" with "never having known the real Edward and discovering just now you do / don't like him." It's obviously not healthy for him to re-repress, so at some level these traits are not going anywhere, and anyone who likes him will have to accept that (and learn to like all of him) long term. However, learning someone has a side you didn't know about and being a bit thrown by it is not unusual. Especially not when his repression was rooted in childhood trauma, so all that stuff was locked up long before piracy culture.

People will act like you are making bold and unsubstantiated claims if you say Izzy likes Edward as a person not just as Blackbeard, but I find the notion that "Blackbeard" as a human guy you live down the hall from is somehow substantially different / distant enough from the real Edward 24/7 that only liking Blackbeard is plausible to be a very bold claim.

Fun dynamic between ocs that I should do more often.

Jin - Jude: I think early on, I thought it would be interesting if Jin and Jude had this mentor, mentee relationship, given how Jin had went through a period of their life just being angry with the world and has zenned out since then ( still angry, but expresses it more healthily. Kinda). Not sure if/ how this can play out now with the timeline change but I think it would be cute if Jin is the one often looking out for Jude's mental health as he( Jude) become this guide for the Chosens. Of course, there's others that help Jude out, but of the older group, I think Jin is the one that Gets It. Even if Jin themselves isn't exactly the leader (?), they still look out for the younger Chosens, and Jude is no expectation.

Ames - Naomi: Being the same age really helps them get along I think. I think their friendship is awkward at first ( Naomi being shy, Ames not being easily trusting of strangers), but they are able to lean on each other as time goes on. Again, I think being the same age helps here. Also I think they remind each other of their respective crushes and that's very cute lol. Naomi is still non-confrontational unless she really feels like she has to. Ames, however, is always choosing violence and has to be held by the neck.

Naomi: ( sighs ) I know I should ignore them, but these die hard Leon fans can get so annoying.

Ames: We could kill them.

Naomi: Wha- NO!

Ames: I was joking......Mostly.

Naomi: AMSONIA!

Kenji - Alexis: Fun fact I actually shipped these two waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the very early days of the Legendverse. Before it was called the Legendverse. Anyway it's Ray of sunshine + the storm cloud friendship that I like. I think at first Kenji was genuinely too much for Alexis when they met( when or how, not entirely sure), but I think they strike a good balance of energetic adventurer and anxious ( and depressed) traveler.

Alexis - Eva: Similar to above though they both get to trauma bond over Ghetsis. Recently I've actually been in favor of Alexis not really using his prosthetic arm as religiously as I originally saw it, but I do want to keep the fact that Eva helps with repairs/ upgrades ( with a doctor's approval of course). And given how Eva is Alexis' sister's girlfriend and future wife, I think it's necessary for them to hang out. Part of which involves Eva dragging Alexis out of his house for shopping. He WILL go shopping with her, there is no escaping it. She likes to tease him about being grumpy lol ( everyone does really hgvhvgvgvcg)

Danica - Kenji - Jin: in the early days of the Legendverse, I called this trio "the parent and their kids". Nowadays I'm a bit more averse to call Jin " the parent". But I still think these three have an insanely close bond with each other. Who's the responsible one often lands on ego has the braincell that day. All three of them are capable of some level of chaos lol. More often than not it is Jin ( being the oldest, and the fact that Amber will kick their ass if they aren't being somewhat responsible here-), but please note that Jin can be petty and competitive and will do dumb shit bc of it. I think these three are very used to Danica's Habits ( appearing next to them out of nowhere, void vomit, generally creepy shit) so they don't really blink an eye about it.

Amber - Kiran - Beryl: The Professors™. They all have different levels of how they operate which is fun. Amber is much much more outdoorsy and prefers field research above anything. Not to mention a more potent battler compared to the other two. Beryl is in the middle of the road, liking field research but also enjoying being in the lab. Kiran is still amazed that he even survived his journey through Sinnoh, they much prefer being indoors with a comfy bed( this still rings true post PLA btw hgbgjnnmbcc). I think the three have interesting conversations, being up and coming pokemon professors - it is amazing how passionate Amber and Kiran can be sometimes. Sometimes, sometimes, Beryl instigates some heated discussions between the two. For funsies.

And that's all for now. When writing this I realized some ocs I haven't really thought about interacting with some others. For example I've only really thought of Dante within the context of Jude and their friend group. How the other Chosens think of him could be something interesting. I think he would be particularly close with Wayne, though. I think they would have a few things in common.

I bet you thought this was over, but surprise! I wanted to do one more of the muses that got votes because this was fun lmao. Warning for a brief non-sexual and non-descriptive mention of self-harm.

Honestly the only reason I tag stuff as don't ship is because of those people reblogging stuff of relatives or minors and adult tagging it with shippy stuff and at times they heavily promote that in a healthy way because it's fiction.

the bulk of the post you're referring to here was about someone tagging something as "don't SEE as ship," which is a completely ludicrous and absolutely unachievable amount of control to try to exert over how someone else interprets your artwork. you literally do not have either the right or the ability to control whether or not a person who, say, ships Lunter looks at artwork of Luz and Hunter hanging out and thinks, "aw, that's so cute :)" while imagining it in a romantic light, regardless of your intention as the artist.

like that is just flat out ridiculous. it's not rational or like, good for your own mental health or mood to be spending that much time worrying about what other people might be thinking.

as for the rest of it, like... anon i am very aware of why people tag stuff as "don't ship" or "x shippers dni," and i don't think that's, idk, a bad or unreasonable thing to do. like it's fine and reasonable to say "hey don't tag this as a ship" if that would in fact really upset you to see. a lot of times, though, in my experience, it ends up being kind of silly?

(also heads up you are for sure in the wrong place if you think i'm sympathetic to accusations of people Normalizing Romanticizing Immanentizing and Caramelizing actual real life abuse bc they write or draw incest/underage/rape/whathaveyou.)

in my personal experience, when i see that kind of message, it's usually one of the following situations:

there's absolutely no indication it's ship art whatsoever, and no reasonable person would assume it was; for instance, if you want to talk about incest shipping, the frequency with which i see art that in no conceivable way could be rationally interpreted as suggestive or incestuous tagged with "btw DO NOT TAG AS INCEST" is ridiculous. do you think people who ship fictional incest are like, completely unaware of how normal, healthy family relationships work? i'm not going to say it never happens, because i've been on the internet long enough to know that there's always That One Guy, but for the most part, if someone is plastering "BTW THIS ISN'T INCEST" all over pictures that are clearly not incest, then they're the one who is shoving the idea of incest shipping into everyone's face when nobody else brought it up, and it feels very defensive. there's nothing wrong with being made uncomfortable by it or not wanting people to tag/comment on innocuous posts referencing an incest ship, but just on my end i'm more in favor of blocking blogs whose content makes you uncomfortable rather than telling other people how they're allowed to interpret art. (i would also say like, "a person who reblogs/interacts w ship content reblogging/interacting w non-ship content" is not necessarily a person interpreting the non-ship content as ship content, but like, you're allowed to be uncomfortable and to block people who you don't want interacting w your stuff, it's fine.)

there's no indication that it's ship art, but somebody who does ship it is likely to enjoy the art because it features the characters in their ship having a positive interaction. this one is just like, shooting yourself in the foot engagement metrics-wise to a bizarre degree to me - if i return to my Lunter example up there, like, if you write or draw Luz and Hunter hanging out, then probably a significant chunk of your audience is going to be people who ship them?

it's genuinely ambiguous whether or not it's ship art or could be interpreted that way. at which point death of the author kind of kicks in. not to mention, i've seen like, a nonzero amount of art of siblings/family members that, frankly, did not come across as normal or healthy ways for family to be interacting, and "someone drawing something that looks real fucking weird but insisting it's totally normal" gets me a lot worse than "someone just outright admitting Yeah This Is Some Nasty Freak Shit That I Like," because you can avoid the stuff that's knowingly tagged and warned for, but you can't really avoid Weird Vibes or stuff people doesn't realize is messed up, you know?

so you know i mean. again. you GET to say whatever. and it's not wrong to be made uncomfortable by certain ships, whether they're dead dove type content or just ships that you really don't vibe with for literally any reason. i just think that insistently plastering any art of two characters who anyone ships, ever, with defensive messages that this is NOT ship art, is both silly and kind of joyless and also means you're spending more time worrying about the idea that someone else might think a thing you don't like than you're spending thinking about the things you like. and that also it's probably just more useful to block or mute people who interact with your art in ways that make them uncomfortable.

and also that it is absolutely ridiculous to try to tell people they're not allowed to look at your art and think about a ship, which is mostly what the original post was actually about.

I understand you with the Hanakou being a good ship but Mitsukou literally parallels Hananene all the time (we all know Hananene love each other)

Most of us don't think it's overrated

Kou literally was going to try and die for Mitsuba and become a supernatural for him just so they can be together and work together to become human

And when Mitsuba says, "I don't like guys with lame-ass-traffic-earrings"(or something along those lines) He's basically saying he likes guys

And a whole lot of other scenes indicated that they let each other (even if they don't realize it themselves *cough cough* kou *cough cough*)

I'm just very confused on why you don't think they are in love

If anything with you(me included) even thinking that Teru could care for anyone but his family is far off

And hoping to the Hanakou thing- I understand-I understand

But now going to Mitsunene-um-uh-yeah no

Mitsuba is so gay it isn't even funny and yes Nene does find him pretty but I do think after she got over her "he's a prince~ <3" phase- I think she starts to see him like a brother or like a cousin (just like she sees Kou). Mitsuba I think sees Nene like an older sister (Yep-I'm sibling zoning them)

MitsuNene, I love their dynamic, and I get that she got over her "he's a cute princely underclassmen" but I do understand about them having the cousin relationship, but I think they're an amazing pair so I have no problem shipping them, drawing, reading content or seeing fanart, because I love them, because I COULD see them as romantic but most of my ships in tbhk are like qpr tbh but I love romance sm(as an aegoromantic) so I really can't get behind the MitsuNene hate :(

and about what this is mainly about

honestly ppl make the "parallels" aren't as much as the fandom likes to point out and I don't think parallels in general don't mean romantic, if there were more parallels with other ships people didn't like they'd mark it off as nothing, but because people go crazy over MitsuKou they point out everything to make it romantic :(

I think this is a very funny panel for the humor, but to say it's him basically saying he does? and how much people make this panel about MitsuKou? @saiyanandproud - Can I just say that I’ve been secretly a big fan of Mariko for well over a year? ;0; Sometimes get a little embarrassed over that fact, but our rp’s have really picked up recently and it’s making me thankful that we actually have a proper theme going on between our babies!! ;w; I love seeing all of Mariko’s little shenanigans on the dash with everyone, her personal relationships blooming while she herself is growing as a person with every thread I peek into. Like I’ve stated previously, for an OC based around a limited concept of being a time patroller, she really extends her reach past her occupation. Mariko is a well rounded OC who aspires for genuine recognition as a hero, even if she dares to fly a little too close to the sun. She’s nobody’s fool, incredibly straightforward and a fantastic friend. All that aside, you’re such a humble mun and I enjoy even just holding little conversations about our day or how you’ve been holding up. Seriously, I’m glad you’ve stuck around tumblr this long for us to write great stories together! I’m positive any veterans familiar with her would be so damn happy to see she’s as active as ever!

@viopolis - It started with my HUGE juicy eyes over the fact an actual Dr.Gero graced this community, but my Lord did I absolutely stay for your highly talented world building with Dek, Khett, Nucleo, and many more OC’s that deserve equal praise. I love digging into your posts involving the Aseity, what it means for everyone involved aboard the vessel and how it connects them together. I envy that level of dedication with story weaving, how it fits so perfectly even with canon characters like Cell-- oh MAN speaking OF HIM. You’re the only other person I’ve met who understands how green mean bastard bug functions without adding unnecessary traits to his personality. Your basically my Cell twin in that regard, some minor differences for sure, but generally on the same page. THAT, AND CLEO! MY ADOPTED GOTH SON. Each time I see his face is the moment I feel my arms wanting to hug the computer monitor, like... Wow, I love him just as much as I do Cyto and thats a lotta love. I certainly WILL NOT forget about Dek because they’re a mischievous alien CREATURA I wish to smoosh with my hands respectfully. Look I just... I really love all your muses dude, absolutely blessed to have a chance to interreact with any of them! I can’t blame her hate boner for the RR army, who really could in her position? No one can deny that Lila is a fantastic OC and I’m so happy that I can see her beautiful purple hair grace my dash when you post. @unboundpower - THE GREAT AND POWERFUL USER OF ACTUALLY VERY WELL WRITTEN FUSION FRIENDS, THANK GOD. Seriously Nebula, before you really made yourself prominent here was when there was some... Not so great Gogeta / Vegito / Four blogs kicking around and I can’t say it was terribly interesting. You have every right to gatekeep what you’ve built for yourself and your handsome boys, because you’ve fleshed them out so well that I don’t think many can match your energy. Give yourself credit where it’s due, you’re running characters that are a little more challenging to write and you do it so naturally. The complexities of being themselves, owning up to their own love lives as individuals, the break away from just being ‘fusions’ of Goku and Vegeta and BECOMING a new soul altogether.
