I was thinking about the 5 year anniversary video and
Tumblr media
it is interesting to me how Patton kind of decided for Logan what his role in the "family" would be. all the other sides chose it themselves, but he didn't get to.
Tumblr media
even when he actively objects it's played for laughs and never addressed. this happened too when Patton revealed his name for him, and I just think it's interesting to note that after all these years, Logan still never gets to decide anything when it comes to Thomas, or even himself, to an extent. it's just kind of decided for him and he is expected to just go along with it, similar to how it was when Thomas dyed his hair.
ik it's mainly a "haha wine mom" moment, but that doesn't take away from how angsty it gets when you think about it.

Mm, there's so many things I want to say about the new asides episode, mainly because it was so obviously based on the secret santa scenario from the patreon livestream a little while back...
The only thing Thomas really changed was Logan being the organizer instead of Janus and then Patton's gift to Remus. Most of the chat said he'd get Remus an octopus plushie or a slime stim toy, but I agree with the change because it works really well and rounds out the message at the end, too.
Something that the chat had also been insistent on was giving Logan a Perfect gift, and since Logan was the character hosting the stream, he kept insisting that while Virgil knows his interests, it probably wouldn't be something perfect (pretty sure we decided on a space-themed Lego set that was definitely not specifically my own idea I had put out there or anything 👀), so it was fantastic having that turned around into a fun little puzzle which not only got us some tasteful angst but also gave Logan an interesting and unique present that he would absolutely enjoy, which is exactly what we all wanted!
Again, all the other presents were more or less the same, with maybe less gore involved in Remus' present to Virgil, and with about the same responses, too, which was great! Patton genuinely enjoying his present even though it was meant to be a joke, Janus actually getting a second real present that benefits him, Roman not immediately on board with his gift because it's not extravagant but then realizing the freedom and flexibility that comes with it is its own reward... It was all wonderful.
It also, as with the last little asides episode, gives us a great idea of where everyone stands (I guess both literally in Thomas' mindspace as well as, you know, narratively).
It feels significant that Logan insists that Janus and Remus be included in their activities, but acknowledges that they are traveling there, implying the dark sides don't just hang around or anything, they come and go, which makes sense.
Virgil still vehemently hates Janus but isn't making barbs about his inclusion like he has in the past, and Roman still seems uncomfortable with his brother being around while Remus just seems delighted to be included at all. Roman still has animosity with Janus, understandably, but he's already kind of begrudgingly making his way towards acceptance with him.
Now for the more interesting details - first, Janus and Remus purposefully trying to egg on Logan's anger. Not the first time, but they seem more excited about it here rather than teasing him about it as they have before, which definitely implies confidence that it's not only prevalent but also definitely plot-relevant for the future, not that that was even a question at this point.
Next, it's interesting that Janus and Remus seem to be able to bounce off each other even with how very different they are, but the light sides are so full of discontent that there's a natural discourse with their gifts until there's a chance to explain... It shows that the light sides do not have natural trust in each other, which should be obvious but here it's on display in front of the dark sides, too. They are so clearly at odds (even if they can eventually come around) when the dark sides seem to have figured their shit out.
Also, it's nice to see Patton's gift did, in a way, emulate Virgil's gift from the first Christmas episode, as it also kind of implies Janus' acceptance in that way.
I was actually quite delighted to see that Logan's gift to Roman wasn't just the joke from the livestream, but that it showed Logan did genuinely put thought into the gift but realized he wasn't going to be able to meet the expectations of someone with a limitless imagination and instead played into that fact rather than try to war against it, using something not only practical but unconventional to someone like Roman, something he wouldn't expect but would be able to appreciate with time... And also something that technically takes the decision-making tension away from Logan and makes it Roman's problem instead, though Roman wouldn't be one to overthink and view it as a problem, so it works out extremely well. Finding balance and all that.
And then, of course, the end card scene being really adorable and sweet - that Thomas was thinking about gift-giving because he'd wanted to get something perfect for Nico, and I will agree that he did a great job, adding a tiny bit of (somewhat fresh) nostalgia and catering to Nico's interests...but then wanting to make what is usually perceived as a Big step in what is still a budding relationship, ooh boy... That's definitely some plot setup right there!
Overall, a fantastic episode, based on a lot of ideas from a wonderful livestream - I genuinely loved this. It makes me very hopeful for the season finale, whenever we do eventually get it!

I have a feeling Logan isn't good at shapeshifting because he overcomplicates it. Like the atoms and organs and he hates having his body be fantastical
EXACTLYY YOU GET ME. also here is MORE tss body horror hc's that werent in the og post:
logan: if hes in an "unrealistic" body [think: puppet logan] for any long amount of time, he will break down, as he starts asking questions. how is he sentient and aware? how is he breathing? after a while, he'll end up as a gory puddle of pure panicked breakdown and one of the twins will have to fix him. he'll usually end up Checking his own organs after this. just to make sure.
patton: though the inside is.. uh. Pretty Simple. he has one organ: the heart! it is exactly what a 5 year old would think a heart is. it Beats Too :D. also, any "sharp" parts of him (aka teeth and nails) are.. Soft, like Plastic. sometimes they will come loose. their will be No Blood. it makes logan Viscerally Uncomfortable.
roman: though his body is Perfect, as previously mentioned, when hes alone.. hes willing to play with it. make it art. hes cried tears of blood before. sometimes, whenever he feels too fake, he'll take himself apart. just to make sure. just to make sure. (him and logan are alike in too many ways)
virgil: he is a glass canon. his body is fragile, any stray thought he has is susceptible to hurting him (what if im having a heart attack? what if this cut hit a vein?) but. whenever he feels the other sides are in danger? he is horrifically strong. like a parent with a child in danger, he will punch hard enough to break someone but shatter his arm in the process.
janus: though he tries his best to hide it, remus and virgil Know intimately how sick he is. sometimes, he gets poisoned with his own venom and seizes up for hours. in the winter, hes in and out of consciousness, with no rhyme or reason. he gets wild mood swings too, occasionally loosing the ability to feel affection for hours or days, as snakes cant feel that. it terrifies him.
remus: besides logan and janus, his body is painfully realistic. he takes it farther though. his shapeshifting is never.. clean. its all disgusting and gross and like shoving all his organs and bones into a new bag and all the terrible consequences that come with that. as well, he doesnt heal instantly like the other sides. no. he lets it stay as long as it takes.

okay okay! first i wanted to say i love your art! it's so unique and cool!! also super soft when you do moceit and analogical 🥺🩵💛 💜💙 i think those are the characters i find perfect in your style, logan is just 💙✨ (/gen)
so! on the topic of moceit and analogical, maybe some headcanons you have for both pairings? :3 🩵💛 💜💙
Thank you, that's so sweet of you to say! I love every tag you leave on my art, and the whole system is glad you enjoy our work!
Moceit:
Patton has trouble with seeing the other sides as equals, tending to view himself as an authority figure. Not only was Janus the first to challenge this, he was the first to become an equal. Janus challenges a lot of Patton's preconceived ideals and it's good for him - Patton has been living by the morals of a child while also putting himself in a role of power over the others. Janus is needed in order to break apart that dynamic.
Janus and Patton really both love hanging out in the outdoors, and just being around each other and chatting quietly is their favourite way to spend time. Very old married men behaviour.
Janus isn't much of a cuddly person, but Patton very much is. Janus is willing to concede to bedtime cuddles and maybe 5 hugs a day, but no more, no less.
Janus rarely talks about himself and his emotions, he's not fond of the vulnerability that comes with sharing facts about yourself. However, Patton tells Janus everything about himself. To the point that Janus knows about his cold shoulders, even though Patton didn't even know why Janus likes Halloween best.
Patton crochets so many warm clothes for Janus to use during winter to keep him from getting all slow and foggy brained. Janus can become nearly catatonic if he gets extremely cold, and Patton tries to help him stay warm as possible to prevent it.
Analogical:
I LOVE queer romantic analogical!! They care for each other so greatly, even if it couldn't necessarily be defined as a 'relationship', and neither of them want a relationship anyways. (aroace kings)
Logan writes fanfic and Virgil lays against his back on the bed and just hangs out with him. He calls it "nerd stories" but he loves editing for him and proofreading his work (and he loves the opportunity to spend time with Logan and engage his interests and passions in general).
Logan really enjoys letting Virgil show him his music! He enjoys breaking down the beats and melodies logically and the excitement of discovering new things. Logan is an emo and goth music fan by proxy.
Both of them are a bit touch averse and not incredibly physically affectionate, so cuddling or even hugging is rare between them. They much prefer to parallel play beside each other, doing their own thing yet enjoying each other's company.
Virgil truly understands Logan's current struggle, being disregarded and pushed aside, having your opinions discredited and ignored. That's why he never gets mad at Logan for snapping or jumping to conclusions that people hate him. After all, Logan was the one that taught him about cognitive distortions. Virgil is pretty much the only person Logan will accept comfort from at this point.
That's all that is on my mind for now, I love both of these ships so deeply <3

Okay, so- I have this Sander Sides AU that I've had for a long while now. And I think it would be neat to share it with you. I might also make several posts about it. So let me introduce you to:
Tumblr media
Sanders Switched is an AU in which the sides' "roles" are switched around. To elaborate, their function (Logan as logic, Patton as morality, ect.) remains the same. Thomas' perception of them is what changes. So where Logan is the voice of reason in canon, another side would take his place. Here's all the sides in Sanders Switched:
Janus: Janus takes the role of Patton as the kind authority figure. He's seen as Thomas' self-preservation and always puts his safety and well-being above all else. He's a sort of motherly figure to the other sides, constantly caring about their well-being and acting as if he's older than them. He's much sweeter than OG Janus, but he still has a sassy side, and lives for gossip.
Remus: Remus takes Roman's role as Thomas' source of inspiration. He is seen as Thomas' comedic side and encourages Thomas to have as much fun as possible. Rather than being a Duke, he presents as a jester. He has issues with his impulsivity, and his jokes tend to be morbid and often mean, but he's overall harmless and much more tame than OG Remus.
The Orange Side: Obviously, I can't say exactly what the Orange Side will be, since we haven't been introduced to him yet. But based off what we do know, I place him in Logan's role as the voice of reason. Assuming he represents wrath of some sort--which is impossible not to believe at this point--he would probably be seen as Thomas' motivation, pushing him to get his work done.
Roman: Most people would probably switch Roman and Remus and make Remus, "good creativity," and Roman, "bad creativity." BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M COMPLICATED AND UNIQUE. So Roman takes the place of Virgil as the original, "antagonist." He is seen as Thomas' pride that pushes delusions that keep Thomas from growing as a person. He arrogant and rude, and claims he is a King rather than a Prince. Because of this, none of the sides really like him at all, with the exception of Janus. But near the end of season one, we discover that Roman only really wanted Thomas to achieve his dreams, and that most of his cockiness hid his secret insecurities. And after Thomas and the other sides realize how important he is, Roman is officially accepted as part of the group.
Patton: Patton takes the role of Janus as the antagonist to all of Thomas' beliefs and the possible leader of the dark sides. He is seen as Thomas' overbearing moral code that constantly tries push harsh rules rooted in Catholic Christianity onto Thomas and the other sides. He is extremely passive aggressive and overly judgmental towards the sides he deems, "wrong." Almost everything he says is a critisism of something Thomas or the other sides do. Despite being so harsh however, he loves puns and making jokes just as much the OG Patton, and loves to torture Logan with his puns.
Logan: Logan takes Remus' place as the bad influence Thomas tries to ignore. He is seen as Thomas' inner critique who judges Thomas for everything he does. He insists that Thomas' lifestyle is, "childish," and that he should abandon it for a, "mature," way of living so that he can live, "a normal, healthy life." He is extremely judgmental and criticizes all the sides for the smallest of details, making everyone hate him, even Janus. Despite this, he generally harmless, and he can easily be ignored.
Virgil: Virgil takes the Orange Side's place as the mysterious secret side that the fandom makes a million theories about. I can't fully explain who he would be, since, again, we haven't been introduced to the Orange Side yet. But for now, he still represents Thomas' anxiety. And when he reveals himself, he will call Thomas and all the sides out on their BS.
That's all for now. It isn't fully developed, and things will surely change when the Orange Side finally does reveal himself. But there's still a lot of things I would like to share. So please let me know if you want know more!

i have a sanders sides au concept on the brain
they're all siblings but they all sort of defy expectations when it comes to sibling dynamics. all six of them live together.
(cw for mention of substance addiction under the read more)
janus is the oldest at 23, and he struggles a lot with the whole "parenting" thing. he's very ambitious, and he's working to further his career in the detective industry so he can better provide for his family, but he is extremely emotionally and physically distant, and it's rare that he does anything with his brothers, whether it's helping around the house or playing with them. he does love his brothers, but he has trouble connecting with them.
virgil is the second oldest at 21. he had to drop out of college in order to provide for his younger siblings' needs at home, and he resents janus for staying in college and leaving virgil to be the one to drop out. virgil is a bit of a "bad cop" when it comes to parenting his younger brothers, but he'd rather be a little mean than be the reason why his brothers get hurt. he cares a lot about safety, and he's super protective over his brothers. but being the one who does all the chores and the cooking and the paperwork is super taxing, and virgil runs on practically no sleep and no self care.
patton is the third oldest at 20. he's the "fun one" to the younger siblings, and he also stays home to help his brothers when he isn't working his job at a bakery, but he doesn't do as much around the house. he's the "parent", the one who gives the children baths, reads them stories, comes to their school events, etc. he's practically worshipped by the littles, but he's hiding a horrible secret that puts his brothers in danger whenever they're around him. he has a bad habit of babying his little brothers, especially roman. he also tends to spoil them with money that they do not have.
roman is the "middle child" so to speak at 18. he's a new adult, but nobody really considers him as such because he is severely intellectually disabled, having the estimated mental capacity of a six-year-old in terms of physical and intellectual ability. despite being the fourth oldest, roman is sort of regarded as the baby of the family due to his disability, which is something he does not particularly like. roman is very close with all of his siblings, even though he has a tendency to dramatize things and make up grand stories. despite struggling with academic and common sense related skills, roman is extremely emotionally intelligent, and he is probably the wisest sibling in the bunch.
remus is the second youngest at 14. he's at a difficult age, where everything is getting harder, and nobody is truly there for him. between family fights left and right, siblings who seem to always need more than him, and his tendency to brush off emotions, remus is often floating around on his own with no guidance. he is addicted to nicotine due to looking up to some bad influences at school, and he's going down a very dangerous path. he's gritty, sarcastic, and overall just angry at the world. angry at his family. angry at himself. just...angry.
logan is the youngest at 10. he's a shockingly serious child, being a prodigy. he's extremely skilled academically, especially in subjects like math, science, and grammar. despite being the youngest, he hates being regarded as a baby, or a child, or anything similar. being the only member at the family adept at math, he does the family's taxes, and ends up being a kid who grew up way too fast. he's the only one who knows patton's secret, and he's sitting on it with sealed lips until he can figure out what to do about it. despite being very mature for his age, logan is still very clearly a kid who needs help.
i just have so many scenarios pertaining to this au as a whole and i might need to write some snippets.

Not So Jolly Christmas
It is once again time for the @sanderssidesgiftxchange! This year I wrote for @authorgirl0131 who wanted a story about Janus and Remus' first Christmas with the Lights Sides as well as some Hurt/Comfort. I hope you enjoy 💛
Read here on Ao3
Summary: Janus and Remus spend their first Christmas with the Light Sides. One in particular isn't amused.
Content Warnings: Christmas, Virgil is pretty mean to Janus, Janus is caught in a self-hate spiral near the end, Cursing, Hurt/Comfort, Hopeful Ending
~~*~~
“J-ANUS!” Remus yelled as he crashed into the door to Janus’ room and before Janus could open his eyes, the other was on top of him.
“It’s Christmas! You need to get up! I wanna annoy my brother!”
Janus groaned and slowly opened his eyes, flinching at the brightness of his room. Remus’ sharp grin was only inches from his face and Janus pushed him away with all six of his arms.
“Yes, yes, I know,” he yawned, slowly sitting up. Remus bounced of the bed, and he didn’t stop bouncing as he circled around the room, not standing still for even a second. Janus couldn’t blame him; this would be the first time in forever that he spends the holiday with his brother.
Patton had invited Janus to join them on Christmas day at the beginning of the month. When he had just raised his eyebrows at the suggestion, Patton had quickly tagged on that Remus would be welcome as well, under a few stipulations. Janus’ brow had wandered higher.
“Yes, a wonderful idea of you to invite us behind the others back, that won’t cause any problems at all!” he had scoffed.
“Wha—? No! No, I asked the others. Logan said he didn’t mind, just that I should tell him early on if you agree to come so he has time to organize the presents. Roman and Verge weren’t… thrilled by the idea but they agreed that we should try to get along, for Thomas’ sake. Roman insisted though that Remus had to follow some rules if he wants to come.”
Janus knew Patton wasn’t lying but he could hardly believe it was the truth. Virgil said okay to him and Remus coming? Ever since he left, things had been… more than a little strained. Sure, they hadn’t had the best relationship even before then, but now Virgil met them with animosity whenever he saw them.
Still, he couldn’t turn down the offer if it meant that Remus could finally spend more time with his brother.
“Alright,” he said slowly. “What are these rules then?”
“It’s just about the gifts!” Patton reassured. “Roman said that Remus can’t get us anything that is alive, rotting, sharp, or deadly. Or any combination of those.”
“That’s… fair enough, I suppose. I’ll ask him and get back to you.”
“Please do!” Patton had beamed as if he had already said yes.
Of course, Remus had agreed enthusiastically, which led them to Christmas morning.
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” Remus whined as Janus swung his feet off the bed and into his slippers.
“I do need to get dressed first, Remus,” he reminded.
“Oh, pft, no you don’t! We could both just go in our birthday suits!” He shimmied his shoulders and Janus rolled his eyes fondly. Despite his words, Remus had come to his room fully dressed.
“You said you would behave, Remus. And Patton said that they usually wear their Christmas sweaters, and that we didn’t have to but I like mine, so I’ll go put that on.”
“Ugh, fine! You’re no fun anymore.” Remus threw himself on the bed dramatically as he pouted. Janus didn’t pay him any more attention and disappeared into the bathroom.
He walked to the sink and splashed some water into his face before taking a deep breath. He couldn’t share Remus’ excitement, on the contrary, he was dreading the day more than he looked forward to it. Yes, Patton would do his best to make them comfortable and Logan would be polite as usual, but the other two? Well, Roman would probably be preoccupied by dealing with Remus but that would also mean that Virgil’s focus would be mainly on him.
And that was not an inviting concept.
But he had agreed, so now he had to get through it. If only for Remus’ sake. He again splashed his face with water and got moving to get ready.
When he came back out of the bathroom a few minutes later, fully dressed and a bit more confident to face the day, Remus was crawling along his ceiling on all fours. At least this time he wasn’t secreting slime.
He let himself drop and crashed into the floor when he saw Janus, practically vibrating with excitement again.
“Can we go now?!”
“Almost,” Janus chuckled. Remus’ face fell but Janus knew that he could improve his mood with just a few words. “I have an early present for you.” Immediately, Remus started actually vibrating on the spot, looking at Janus with big eyes.
“What is it? What is it?”
Summoning the box into his hand behind his back, Janus revealed it to his best friend with a flourish. Remus grabbed it greedily, tearing in the wrapping paper and pulling off the lid as soon as he could. Inside laid a thin, green collar with a metal box that kept the ends together.
“Uhh, pretty!” Remus laughed, pulling the collar out of the box with much more care.
“It’s a shock collar,” Janus explained and immediately Remus’ eyes snapped to his.
“For real?” he asked, overjoyed.
“Yes, but—” He grabbed a hold of Remus’ arm before he could put it on and try it out. “For now I have disabled the highest settings. I’m giving this to now because I want you to try and use it to stop yourself from going on your lovely rants the other love so much.” His tone was sarcastic, but his eyes were serious and Remus nodded.
“I get it. Fun impulse control so I don’t fuck it up for us in the first five minutes.”
“Remus—”
“I know, I know. We’re starting small or whatever. I’ll have my fun with this, thanks Banana Bitch!”
Janus sighed but dropped the topic. “You’re welcome. I’ll let you have the full range of options tomorrow, I promise. Now, let’s head to the others before you explode on me.”
Remus whooped, grabbed Janus’ arm and dragged him out of the door.
Janus let him.
This was going to be a long day.
~~*~~
As they arrived downstairs, Janus took a moment to survey the scene before announcing their presence.
(Not that Remus would hold back for his sake, which meant he had until Remus found something to throw himself at. Literally.)
He spotted Virgil and Roman in the living room together, their backs towards him. They were leaning on each other and probably looked at something on a phone together. Patton meanwhile was in the kitchen, humming jovially to the Christmas music playing at a comfortable volume. Logan he couldn’t see, though he presumed he’s helping Patton.
“RO-BRO!” Remus yelled, storming towards the couch and throwing himself into Roman and Virgil’s laps. They both started cursing and shoving at him immediately. Janus decided he wasn’t going to deal with them on his own, so he headed for the kitchen instead.
“Janus!” Patton greeted happily as he saw him enter. “I’m so glad you made it! Remus joined the others in the living room I assume?”
“Yes, he did. Merry Christmas, Patton.” Janus let his eyes wander around the kitchen as he spoke, spotting Logan at the kitchen table, absorbed into a crossword. “And merry Christmas Logan.”
“Merry Christmas to you too, Janus!” Patton laughed while Logan just mumbled, “To you as well,” without looking up from the paper in front of him.
“Don’t mind him, he does one of those every morning and he won’t let the holidays stop him,” Patton smiled, and Janus simply nodded. “Would you mind helping me set the table for breakfast? We’ll do presents first, of course, Roman was already cranky that we had to wait on you to start.”
“Sssure.” The involuntary hiss made Janus flinch slightly – he might be more stressed by the unfamiliar situation than he realized himself – but Patton either didn’t notice or knew not to comment on it as he waved him over to load plates into his hand that he was supposed to place on the living room table.
After only a minute or two they had everything settled and Patton laid a hand on his shoulder.
“Thank you very much for the help, Jan! I really appreciate it.”
“I expect your firstborn in exchange,” he replied dryly and the other laughed.
“But you’re all my kiddos and I don’t actually know which one of you is the oldest!”
“Right.” Janus knew he was being short, but his eyes had wandered over to Roman, Virgil and Remus. Remus seemed to be rambling about something and the other two looked like they would rather be anywhere else. He wondered why they hadn’t tried to stop him.
“Are you nervous?” Patton asked. He was suddenly a lot closer, whispering close to his ear and Janus flinched for the second time that morning.
“No, not at all. Why would I ever be nervous?” Patton didn’t immediately answer but Janus could see in his eyes that he didn’t believe him.
“I understand. But I’ll do my best to make it comfortable for you two, too.”
Janus wanted to bite back, make a witty comment and shrug off the unpleasantness in his stomach but his tongue went dry, and he couldn’t get a word out. So he settled for nodding instead. Patton nodded back and grabbed a plate of cookies off the table.
“Alright, everyone is here so let’s start the day, shall we?” he called, bright and cheery. Janus almost got whiplash from how quickly he had changed his tone.
“Ugh! Finally!” Roman groaned. He grabbed Virgil’s arm and pulled him away from Remus to sit on the other end of the couch. Remus stayed on the floor, a manic grin on his face and Janus could see the movement of his hand in his pocket as he pressed the shock collar remote. The twitch that followed the voltage was almost imperceptible. He remained silent.
“Yes, I have finished my crossword and am ready to give you my undivided attention,” Logan said as he entered from the kitchen. He walked towards the couch with certain steps and took a seat. “Good morning, Remus and merry Christmas.”
“Merry Shitmas, dork!”
Patton laughed uncomfortably at Remus’ returned greeting but didn’t comment on it. He moved towards the Christmas tree that Janus had heard had been created and decorated by Roman. Underneath it sat multiple sets of presents, ten of which Janus had placed there himself during the night, both his and Remus’.
Janus swallowed before moving around the couch to take his own seat. He could tell the moment Virgil noticed him because his gaze felt like a blade trying to dig into him. He gave him only a short glance but that was enough to see the deep distrust in his eyes.
He ended up sitting next to Logan and doing his best to not look over towards Virgil.
The gift giving went mostly smoothly. Patton called a name and that person picked one present of their pile to open. He started with Roman – probably because the prince would have thrown a fit otherwise – and continued with Remus, then Logan, Janus, Virgil and lastly himself. A few presents in, Patton got too distracted by his excitement over what he received that he forgot to call names and Roman just got up, grabbed the rest of his pile and asked who else wanted theirs, too.
The roomed dissolved into loud chatter and yells of excitement. Janus quietly unpacked his gifts – a self-knitted scarf from Patton that had a few holes here and there, a nice bottle of wine from Logan (which he was stopped from opening immediately), a pair of socks from Roman and a blanket from Remus of which he could adjust both temperature and weight. Virgil hadn’t given him nor Remus a present. Janus wasn’t surprised.
His given gifts were received well, too. Patton loved the scrapbook materials and Logan closely studied the motive of the 1500 pieces jigsaw-puzzle. Roman begrudgingly admitted that the fountain pen he had given him was tasteful. He was sure the golden accents and his engraved name helped. Remus cackled manically as he unwrapped his whetstone. His weapons would be even more deadly know, he promised.
At the end only one gift remained wrapped, which Patton pointed out, looking at Virgil quizzically.
“Why’d you leave that one, ki— Virgil?”
“I’m not opening it.”
“But why—?”
“Leave him be,” Janus spoke up, having recognized the wrapping. Virgil stared at him as he said it, his jaw clenched, non-verbally challenging him to agree with Patton and force him to open it.
“But it’s rude towards who gave it to him—"
“He doesn’t have to open it if he doesn’t want to, I don’t mind.”
He’d imagine Virgil wouldn’t have opened Remus’ gift either if Remus hadn’t threatened him to do so with his morningstar. Now Mr. Fuzzy sat with Virgil’s other presents, probably to be thrown into the trash the minute Virgil could get away with it.
(Janus did his best not to think about how much work Remus put into making him.)
Patton looked between the two of them, most likely torn between not wanting to start a fight and reprimand Virgil for being so confrontational.
He settled on, “If you say so,” and called them to the breakfast table.
The tension quickly left the room as they gathered around the table. Roman started bragging about how he gave the best gifts this year which Virgil immediately teased him for, and Remus argued that his had been better. Patton and Logan chimed in occasionally, but Janus kept quiet for them most part. He didn’t want to draw attention to himself again.
The rest of the day passed similarly. They moved from activity to activity (boardgames, movies, etc.) and Janus let the others talk. When he did contribute however, Virgil more often than not shot back with some passive aggressive statements, no matter what the topic had been. Patton tried to get him to stop but Janus waved it off, pretending it didn’t bother him.
Those times Patton didn’t catch him lying.
~~*~~
Then it was time for the last activity of the day. Apparently, it was tradition for the Light Sides to go out to a snowy landscape Roman created to enjoy the chill, drink something warm and light a few sparklers. Janus wasn’t enthused about the idea on grounds that he was cold-blooded and going out into the snow would surely lead to him loosing his precious body heat but he participated nonetheless.
Especially since it gave him an excuse to stay farther away from Virgil.
He took the longest to get ready, as he needed to wear more layers than anyone else. He was in the process of pulling on a second jacket, standing close to the door that would lead him outside to the cold where the others were already waiting.
Well, almost all of them.
Virgil passed him, lightly knocking into him. It didn’t hurt but it certainly got his attention.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to pull here,” Virgil hissed. He stood in the doorway, blocking Janus’ view of the others.
Isolating him.
“If you think you can fool me by playing the good guy, then you’re wrong. I know you. I know your tricks and your lies. And you always lie. You’ve got some kind of agender, you always do. But newsflash, your stupid plans never really seem to work out, now do they? The wedding fiasco for example. You should leave before you ruin this too.”
Virgil didn’t wait for his response. He turned back and headed outside. He was greeted by Logan who pushed a steaming mug into his hands with a smile. Past them, Janus could hear and just make out the twins having a snowball fight that Patton seemed to be refereeing.
They seemed to be having a pretty good time.
Without him.
Janus left.
Before he could really think about it, he was back in his room, shrugging off the jackets, then the snow pants and more layers until he was left with a long-sleeved shirt and leggings. In a daze, he crawled into bed, under his many, many blankets.
Virgil was right. He didn’t belong there. He had been awful to Roman during the wedding affair. To Logan, too, if he was honest. Patton may have found common ground with him but maybe that was build up on false pretenses. He didn’t really know him after all.
Would Remus even be his friend if they hadn’t been stuck with each other for all those years?
Maybe he would leave him too now.
He wouldn’t begrudge him for it.
Remus deserved so much more than him.
He was just a manipulator.
A liar.
A snake.
Unlovable.
Unlovable.
Unlovable.
Unlovable.
Unlov—
“Janny!”
The blankets are pulled away from him and Janus gasped, wide eyes finding Remus, who stood above him with a worried expression.
“Hey there, snakey. Those didn’t sound like nice thoughts to have.”
“Remus?” Janus’ voice was weak and he only now noticed he was crying.
“Yeah, it’s me. You didn’t come outside, so I got worried. C’mon, sit up.” Gently, Remus pulled Janus up so he could sit leaned against him. Then he pulled a blanket around his shoulders. And not just any blanket but the one that Remus gifted him this morning. The weight settled nicely around him and Janus sighed, relieved.
“Here,” Remus pushed the controls for the blanket into his hand. “Put in what you need.”
“It’s already good, thank you.”
“You wanna talk about it?”
“Not really.”
“Okay. Just let me ask one question.”
“Alright.”
“Was it Virgin?”
Janus couldn’t help the flinch. Remus growled lowly but didn’t move.
“He couldn’t leave you alone for just one day, could he.”
“Please Remus, I don’t wanna think about it more now.” Janus knew if he started now, it would be opening a can of worms and as much as Remus would enjoy that if he meant it literally, he didn’t and didn’t have enough energy to do so metaphorically.
“Fine. Cuddles for my snake now, a mace to the face for the emo tomorrow.”
Janus didn’t argue in the moment but they both knew that he wouldn’t let him get that far in the morning. For now, they just sat in silence, Remus holding him in a loose grip. After the tears stopped, he made him drink some water and afterwards offered to put on a movie, but Janus just wanted to sleep.
Remus helped him settle down, sitting next to him and quietly complained about his brother to provide background noise so Janus didn’t get lost in his thoughts again.
Then there was a knock on the door.
Janus really didn’t like how much he flinched today.
“I’ll get it,” Remus mumbled and got up. Janus felt like a coward but didn’t move. He couldn’t deal with any of the others right now.
“Oh, Remus. I didn’t know you were here.”
That was Patton. Why was he here?
“Yeah, well, Janny’s my friend. What’s your excuse?”
“I noticed Janus never joined us outside, so I wanted to check on him. I know him being cold-blooded made the weather less than ideal for him, but I thought he’d come out at least for a little while. And after Virgil said all those things… Well, I got a bit worried.”
Oh, wow.
Patton actually cared.
Janus knew that, of course, but he hadn’t realized to what extent.
Remus glanced over to him; thankfully he was hidden from Patton’s view.
He didn’t want to be seen like this by anyone but Remus.
“Yeah, that was a shitshow. But that’s a discussion for another day, Janny’s asleep and I don’t wanna wake him.”
“Oh! Sorry to have bothered then, I’ll come by tomorrow. And I’ll have a talk with Virgil, promise. I can’t force him to get along with you, but he shouldn’t have said all of those things.”
“Sure. Bye now, daddy.” Remus closed the door in Patton’s face before he could respond and returned to the bed. “You heard all that? He’s gonna be back tomorrow.”
“Yesss. Thank you, Remus.”
“No problem. I’ll let you sleep now.”
Janus didn’t register himself moving until he was already holding onto Remus’ sleeve tightly.
“Don’t go. Please.”
He hated how small his voice was but the idea of having to be alone was even worse.
Remus blinked a few times, surprised, but then he grinned and quickly climbed onto the bed next to Janus.
“Fuck yeah, sleepover!” With a giggle and wiggle he pressed himself tightly against Janus’ back and hugged him. “Gonna cuddle you so hard we’ll melt together over night!”
Janus made a face.
“I’ll make you bathe at least every other day.”
The hold loosened a bit.
“Fine. No melting.”
“Thank you.”
“Sure thing! Melting or not, I’ll always be here for you, Janny.”
Janus couldn’t help the smile that stole itself onto his face.
“Same here, dukey.”
Remus giggled at the nickname but didn’t say more. Quickly after Janus could tell he had fallen asleep as his breathing evened out.
He yawned, getting sleepy himself.
Maybe one day the two of them will find their place along the others, to help Thomas be whatever he wanted to be. But for now they had each other and nobody could take that away from them.

Orange Side
Alright guys, listen. Hot take. I don't know how many of you are going to like this, but it needs to be said.
The Seventh Side/Orange Side Will Not Be Rage.
Now listen for just a minute while I explain. You'll remember during Moving On, Thomas and Patton both establish that Patton is at the core of a lot of Thomas' feelings. This includes not only joy and excitement, but grief and sadness. Rage isn't a part of him, you don't have an angry part of you when you list the parts of you that make you you. And before anyone says Virgil, Thomas' anxiety being a side is a result of him having an anxiety disorder. It's not just an emotion like it is for most people, it affects his day to day. On top of that, Thomas isn't an angry person... at all. He's giddy and cheerful all the time, and if he's not it's sad or anxious. It would take a LOT to piss him off to the point it could be called Rage. He might get frustrated at something, but Rage and Fury have far more fire to them than the sparks of "Why won't this damn coffee machine work?" It wouldn't make any goddamned sense if the seventh side he keeps teasing (that we've predicted) ends up being an emotion, especially because it's really hard to make a full episode dealing with just anger that Thomas doesn't even really have.
Now for the Hot Take I mentioned before. All I've said is it won't be Rage, but most people won't accept that without another alternative to fall back on (though in my opinion we should just let Thomas do his damn thing with it, we can trust him to do that much) so I present to you, these tweets;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now THAT is episode-worthy. THAT is a part of Thomas worth looking into. An ADHD side would get everyone involved one way or another, it'd clear up things within Thomas and the other sides that they don't really get about themselves. As someone with ADHD myself, it would make a LOT of sense to have this be an episode and would also touch on a lot of things most people REALLY need to be told about ADHD.
I can already hear the arguments about what happened in the most recent Asides video with Logan but hear me out. One of the parts of ADHD that I personally despise is RSD, Rejection Sensitivity Disorder. Not all ADHD'ers have it, but a good amount do. Basically we have a worse fear of rejection and failure than most people do. We need everyone to like us so much it's exhausting. If you're not paying attention to us, we're going to immediately think you hate us or don't like us, and if it's for too long we think we've been forgotten completely. Now, since ADHD is a MASSIVE impact on your daily life and thinking, it would make sense that Logan took a good toll from this. The RSD would have hit him like a TRUCK while Remus was ignoring him and making fun of him, and he'd be pissed off. It would also give a good reason for Logan to act the way he did in SVS Redux, appearing in a "less invasive" form so the Pure of Heart and Dumb of Ass wouldn't hate on him the way he thinks they are. Also, this leaves a good reason for the fans to grasp at for Logan angst content, and you can rarely argue with angst.
As for the color, I present to you the ADHD flag. Doesn't get a whole lot more orange than that folks.
Tumblr media
I could go on, clearly, but just think about how much sense this makes you guys. And if you disagree, don't come crawling back to me if I end up being right. But anyways, there's my two cents, take it easy y'all

Happily Ever After
Notes: Definitely the longest thing I've ever written. I'm very proud of it. Thank you so much to @tss-storytime Without this big bang I never would have written something this long. Thank you so much to ivaryn0 and aperezvalderrey for beta-ing for me. First time for that, so everything is written so much better. Definitely would be as polished without them. And of course huge thanks to @hyperfixated-homo for making such beautiful art for this fic. I love it so much. You will too. Be sure to check it out (here)
Characters: Roman, Virgil, Patton, Janus, Remus, and Logan, also orange side
Words: 26K all together
TW: Remus, major character death, fantasy violence, swearing, slight description of a panic attack
Summary: The narrator controls the story. That's how it's always been according to the many history books in Roman's kingdom. Just like his family before him, he has to go on a quest of his own for his happily ever after. Roman's story goes something like once upon a time, a prince saves a princess then gets married. Prince Roman decides this is absolutely ridiculous. He goes on a journey with his personal knight and meets some other people along the way. A witch, two thieves, and a dragon tamer. This story line does end with a happily ever after, but it turns out that happily ever after isn't all what it seems to be.

Chapter 1: Destiny
Roman’s peripherals started to line with an orange glow as he began to wake. He sighed in a tired annoyance. “What is it this time?” he asked in his empty room. He made no move to get out of bed, only rubbing the sleep from his eyes
“Once upon a time, there lived a prince named Roman. He was to be going on what he would call an “epic adventure” today”. The narrator stated with a stern and clear voice.
“Nooooo! I don’t want to!” Roman whined. He turned on his side and put a pillow over his ears trying to drown out the narrator’s voice.
Usually, he had no problem getting out of bed and getting ready for the day. His appearance was very important to him and sometimes it would take him hours just to get his hair just right. A strand of brown hair in the back of his head would always stick up and ruin his whole appearance. It was such a problem that he gave it the name Linda. Anyway, today was different. How could he possibly focus on his appearance when today was the day he had to follow his destiny?
“Roman decided to get up anyway, for he knew this was his duty in the story. His parents went through this, and their parents, and their parent’s parents.” his narrator told him.
Roman took the pillow off his head and threw it at the ceiling just for it to fall back down on his face. He glared at the pillow harshly with his brown eyes.
He knew the narrator wasn’t in the ceiling or walls, but after years of the narrator telling him what to do to get ready for his destiny, he got used to looking at the ceiling of whatever room he was in whenever the narrator decided to put his two cents in. Roman noticed that other people got into this habit as well.
“Roman threw a pillow at the ceiling but got out of bed anyway for there was a knock at the door. He had to answer it for it was of great importance.” Roman rolled his eyes at this, but there was a knock at the door and it might be important. The narrator liked to exaggerate things in order to get him to do what the narrator wanted, but it also might actually be plot important. Roman learned the hard way that it was better to waste time on unimportant things than to be in danger after ignoring a warning of some kind.
Roman sighed loudly, and practically rolled himself out of his soft and cozy bed, glaring at the ceiling while he walked over to the door. He made sure the narrator knew Roman hated him every moment he got.
“Is it important?” Roman asked the person on the other side of the door. He put his ear up to the door and listened closely. There was a moment of silence before a response was given back to him.
“I’m being told to tell you it’s extremely important.” Everyone had their own narrator for everyone was the main character in their story.
Roman recognized this voice as his personal knight, Virgil. He was one of Roman’s closest friends. They were supposed to be close because it was important to the plot or something. Roman wasn’t sure they would have become friends otherwise. They absolutely hated each other when they were first introduced. They used to make fun of each other and call each other names. They still do, but it’s less hurtful and more playful now.
“Alright. Just give me a second to get decent.” Roman called to Virgil through the wooden door.
“Don’t take too long. I’m not going to be waiting out here forever.” Virgil told him.
“Oh and you call me the dramatic one,” Roman scoffed. “It doesn't take me forever to get ready.”
“Biased opinion.” Virgil laughed. “If I wasn’t out here, you would take an hour just to decide what to wear.”
Roman pursed his lips as he looked at his large array of outfits for the day. He didn’t want to annoy Virgil or prove him right by taking too long, but he wanted to put at least a little thought into his appearance today.
He chose his white princely outfit with golden tassels on the shoulders and on the front of the shirt was a bright red sash. The shirt also had his kingdom’s emblem on the right shoulder. This outfit was by far his most favorite. The colors complimented his brown skin. It was also the most comfortable along with the most fashionable outfit he owned.
He spent a few more minutes looking at his appearance in his vanity before his narrator got too annoyed with him.
“Roman opened the door, for it was of great importance.” The narrator told him, starting to get louder and more impatient. Roman groaned.
“Fine. I’m opening the door! Are you happy!?” Roman yelled at the ceiling while opening the door.
“Roman opened the door without shouting or complaining like he usually does.”
“Too late. I’m shouting at you, and I have complained.” Roman chided while pointing at the ceiling accusatively.
Roman swung open the door with a bold smile, excited to see Virgil and whatever he had that was important.
Virgil was standing in front of the door, slouching and holding a tray of breakfast. His fair face peeked out at Roman through his bangs from the black cloak with purple patches he always wore. The knight was wearing all black as usual with the exception being the patches on the cloak. He didn’t normally wear a suit of armor like the other knights, because Virgil’s expertise was stealth and quick attacks. Neither could be done very well in a loud, heavy, clunky suit of armor, so he opted for all black and dark colored clothes with some black pigment under his eyes.
Roman wished he got to see his face more. His lovely brown eyes light up whenever he’s happy about something. Freckles that were just barely noticeable dusting his face… Virgil certainly was the fairest of them all. Fair meaning pale of course.
“Well, that’s not really important.” Roman huffed, as he put a scowl on his face. He looked down at the tray, hiding his face from Virgil’s view.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day?” Virgil offered, handing the tray of food to Roman.
Roman gave a dramatic sigh and took the tray. “I know you and I know you didn’t eat breakfast, so why try to get me to eat mine?”
“I did eat breakfast.” Virgil defended himself. Roman raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms at this. “A small breakfast.”
“How small?” Virgil was quiet for a while, trying to think of a good answer or to stall long enough to have Roman change the subject.
“A handful of oats.” was what Virgil came up with eventually. Roman rolled his eyes and shook his head as he pulled Virgil into the room.
“I can’t be in the room. I have to be stationed outside. What if something happens?” Despite his anxieties, he allowed Roman to pull him inside the room. Virgil had been in his room plenty of times before without getting too anxious. Recently, however, he seemed nervous in Roman’s room, and around Roman in general.
“Someone could come inside through the window. Maybe this food is poisoned. You clearly have to try it.” Roman said, pushing the tray toward Virgil.
“Someone can’t come in here through the window, this is the tallest room in the castle. They would have to scale the wall.” Virgil scoffed.
“Tell that to Rapunzel.” Roman shot back.
“If the food is poisoned the food taster would have noticed.” Virgil told him.
“Maybe it’s a slow acting poison. Try some fish to make sure. ”
Virgil rolled his eyes, but he ate some of the fish. “Are you happy now, your highness?”
“Very.” Roman told him.
“I’ll be right outside if you need me. Scream if someone’s trying to kill you.” Virgil stood up off the bed and walked across the room. Roman chuckled and began eating the food on his tray.
“When Knight Virgil closed the door, a letter seemed to fall from the ceiling.” The narrator stated.
Roman watched a letter fall from a crack in the ceiling, then continued eating.
“Prince Roman stopped eating his breakfast and walked not even five feet away and picked up the mysterious letter.”
Roman chuckled and shook his head. “How about the narrator started working on more realistic plot devices, and Roman kept eating his breakfast for this was of utmost importance.”
“Maybe the leftovers from breakfast will be extremely useful later. Also, you can’t just use my words against me. It’s very hard being a narrator, you know. ”
“Yes. It sounds very hard, telling me what to do every day.” Roman said, pushing his carrots into the corner of the tray. He swears every time he tells the chef he doesn’t like them, they put more on his plate.
“That’s the easy part! It’s hard getting you to do what I want. I am in charge of making sure you achieve your destiny and receive a happily ever after! I thought you wanted that. You used to listen to everything I told you to do when you were a child.” the narrator yelled. The orange in Roman’s eyesight got brighter and covered more of his peripherals. He was also starting to get a headache. Nothing too serious, just something that happened when Roman ignored the narrator for too long.
Roman rolled his eyes. It wasn’t the first time the narrator started yelling at him. It was all fine and good until he didn’t get his way. Then the narrator would just start yelling until Roman did what he wanted. He was used to it and it didn’t stop Roman from making snappy and witty comments. “Are you complaining and shouting right now? What a hypocrite.”
The narrator scoffed at him. A strong wind blew through his window and picked up the letter and blew it towards Roman. It fluttered around his head and landed on his tray.
“Real realistic wind.” Roman muttered as he pushed the letter on top of his carrots in a poor attempt to cover the horrible aroma.
“I’m trying to do my job here. Just read the damn letter! It’ll take only a few minutes of your time. I am begging you here.” The narrator said, breathing heavily as if he used up a lot of his strength.
“I am busy. This food is of utmost importance.” Roman told him while continuing to eat.
The narrator was silent for a while and the orange glow and headache started to dissipate.
As soon as Roman finished eating, another gust of wind blew the tray of carrots onto the floor and the letter fell gently onto his lap.
Roman closed his eyes and crossed his arms. “You can’t make me open my eyes. I’m never gonna read that letter, I’ll never save a princess, and I’ll never get married. Ever.” Roman stated.
“You are acting like a child. This is your destiny. This is the story you have to follow. Everyone gets their happily ever after and you will too.” The narrator told him.
“Are you alright?” Virgil asked him.
Roman jumped from the bed, opening his eyes. The letter fell to the floor. “I didn’t hear you come in.”
“I heard a loud noise… and I was told to.” Virgil mumbled. “You really should listen to your narrator. Isn’t it easier to just let them make the decisions for you?”
Virgil always listened to his narrator. He was in fact terrified to not listen to his narrator. To him, his narrator was a godsend. His narrator made all the hard decisions for him and he never had to think about it.
“Not for me. The idea of destiny is fun and all, but I don’t like the fact I don’t have a choice in how my life ends up. I hate following the orders of some voice in my head. Isn’t this whole narrator thing a bit bizarre? Have you ever even questioned it? Do you know how long this has been going on?” Roman was pacing as he talked. His hands spoke just as passionately as he did.
Virgil let him rant, watching him pace around until his view was surrounded in an orange glow. He began to focus on his narrator’s voice instead. “Knight Virgil saw a letter on the ground. ‘What was that?’ he thought. ‘Could it be a warning?’” Virgil’s narrator said to him. His anxiety spiked and he rushed to pick up the letter going through all the worst case scenarios of what could be written on it.
Roman was too deep into his rant that he didn’t even notice that this was happening. His narrator was quiet as Virgil read the letter.
“Roman.” Virgil said. Roman was still pacing and talking, so he couldn’t hear Virgil trying to get his attention. “Roman!” Roman stopped suddenly and looked at Virgil. “Sorry,” he apologized. “For yelling.”
It was at this moment, Roman noticed the letter in Virgil’s hands. “Please don’t tell me you read that.” Roman pleaded. He watched as Virgil’s eyes were tinted with orange. He groaned, knowing Virgil would listen to his narrator over him. He pouted and crossed his arms, but accepted the fact that he would learn what was in this letter whether he liked it or not. Everything that was destined to happen, happened anyway.
“Knight Virgil started reading the letter out loud to him.” Roman’s narrator told him. Virgil read the letter quietly to Roman who slumped down on his bed, sighing loudly.
“There’s trouble in the Kingdom of Thera. Um, Some ink spilled on the paper here. It’s my fault… There's more ink smeared here. Get here as quickly as you can. I am putting my trust in the nonsensical narrators to get this letter to someone who is expected to help if anyone even is. Signed, L.”
Virgil put the letter down on Roman’s vanity. “Sorry.” he mumbled.
“I know. It’s fine. I just don’t want to do this.” Roman told him. Virgil nodded in understanding. There were plenty of times his narrator told him to do something that he didn’t want to do. He did it anyway of course, but he could understand the fear of the unknown.
“What do we do now?” Virgil asked Roman. His narrator answered for him. “Knight Virgil accompanied Prince Roman on a long journey to the Kingdom of Thera on foot.”
“On foot!?” Virgil and Roman said together. They looked at each other. They knew their narrators had said the same thing.
Roman sighed. “Well Sunshine, we might as well get this over with. As soon as my story is over, the narrator will go away and I’ll never have to hear his annoying voice giving me instructions ever again.” Roman said, getting up. He grabbed Virgil’s hand and dragged him out of his room.
“But I thought you didn’t want to follow your destiny. I mean I could go alone. That would mean I follow my narrator and you could go back to your life even if that would mean becoming a script-breaker.” Virgil told him.
“I could.” Roman said. “But a whole kingdom is counting on me, so I have to for them. I’m destined to be their hero. Also, I’d have to deal with him yelling at me. He’s never been this pushy before.”
“That just means this journey will be important… and really long.” Virgil complained.
“Right, we’re going on foot. I own several extravagant carriages and I have to walk for two days to the neighboring kingdom.”
Roman traded his sash for a red leather vest to try and hide the emblem of his kingdom. You could never be too careful after all. The journey was long and therefore they would most likely run into a few gangs of bandits.
The two left the room and started on their way out of the castle. Virgil was listing off all the things they might need to take with them and Roman needed to let his parents know that he would be gone for a long time and he wasn’t kidnapped or dead.
Roman’s parents were in the throne room taking suggestions from the citizens of their kingdom. They were scripted to be kind to their subjects. Of course, they’re also nice just to be nice. He was glad they didn’t decide to become evil like all the script-breakers he learned so much about.
There weren’t any records of someone scripted to be evil and choosing to be nice, but there were plenty of stories of people who became evil even though their narrator told them otherwise. Sometimes these stories were told to children to make sure they did what their narrator told them to do. Roman had definitely heard his fair share of stories like these. It was practically all that was read to him when he was a kid.
Roman’s parents noticed him and Virgil were waiting. They sent the citizen out of the room and called Roman forward.
“What is it, my dear child?” his mother asked him, her eyes sparkling with orange flakes.
“Prince Roman told his parents the frightening news of the Kingdom of Thera. He was excited to fight whatever threat ailed them, but of course, he was filled with nothing but sympathy and compassion for the people of Thera.”
Roman rolled his eyes and told his parents, “My narrator told me to go to the neighboring Kingdom of Thera walking on foot with Knight Virgil to follow my destiny or something like that. They’re in danger, but for plot reasons, they couldn’t tell me why they are in danger. Not to mention the person who wrote the letter claimed they caused it.”
His parents frowned, showing disappointment. His mother was the first to speak up. “Well of course you have to go.” she frowned at him. “You should be happy about this. It’s your destiny and your path to happily ever after.” she told him.
“Clearly we haven’t taught you well enough to be happy with your narrator’s decision. You should always listen to your narrator with no complaints and plenty of enthusiasm. It’s the only way to get your happy ending. ” his father told him, looking down at him sternly. Specks of orange also sparkling in his eyes.
Most people, like Roman’s father, didn’t agree with people that chose not to follow their destinies. Not only were they more likely to become evil according to the history books, but they interfered with other people’s destiny as well. They were all for chaos and destruction and can’t be bothered to think of others.
“I know, father.” Roman looked down. Virgil looked at him with sympathy. He knew that people with numerous generations in their family who followed a close storyline were likely to be hard on their children. One person could ruin an entire line of happy endings.
Virgil was lucky in that way. His parents were told by their narrator to leave him on the doorstep of an orphanage, so Virgil didn’t grow up with parents pressuring him. He often wondered if his parents regretted it or maybe they just didn’t want him for whatever reason and disobeyed their narrator. He couldn’t blame them for whatever reason they had.
He was absolutely terrified of his narrator telling him that he has to make an irreversible life changing decision. He was told that old friends of his that he used to hang out with were bad influences, so he had to leave. It was something he thought back to a lot, but it was probably for the best. How many people were forced to do something like that just because their narrator told them to?
“Knight Virgil was overwhelmed with worries for he was so deep in thought that he didn’t listen to a word that was spoken to him, Roman, or the king and queen.” his narrator broke him out of his thoughts. He wasn’t paying attention. What did he miss? He was so busy spiraling that he was spiraling into an entirely different direction now.
“You two can leave now.” The king stated plainly. Virgil bowed, then turned and left with Roman.
“Once they were out of earshot of the king and queen, Virgil admitted that he wasn't paying attention.” Virgil’s narrator told him.
Virgil opened his mouth to follow orders, but Roman started speaking. “You weren’t paying attention? That’s not like you. Are you doing alright, scare-amour?” Roman asked him. Virgil jumped up and looked at him. Roman’s narrator must have told him. One of the many bad things about the narrators. Not very many secrets are safe.
“Yeah. I wasn’t paying attention because I was too busy worrying about something else. You were listening though, right?” Virgil asked him. Roman nodded.
“Yeah, they told us to be careful and scolded me for a long while about arguing with my stupid narrator…” Virgil watched as Roman’s eyes flashed orange for a few seconds. “Oh shut up. I didn’t ask you.” Roman huffed at the ceiling.
Roman felt already prepared while Virgil was still fretting about things they don’t have but might need. “Do you think we’d ever need a saddle?” Virgil asked.
“We’re going on foot. Why would we need a saddle? Roman countered.
“You’re right. You’re right.” Virgil took a deep breath and went through all of their belongings once more. “I think we’re ready.”
Since the two were ready, they left the castle, the guards lowering the gate when they saw the prince. The two walked out of the town with Roman stopping at nearly every person they saw to say farewell on the way.
Virgil admired how confident and talkative Roman could be. There was so much passion in his voice, and the way Roman smiled made his stomach do flips. Maybe he was just a little jealous of his charisma.
The two looked at the dirt path with hills and a large forest in the distance. Roman sighed.
“The two adventurers started walking forward, without knowing the dangers that lurked ahead.”
“Oh, shut up.” Roman told him, looking up at the sky.

Sanders Sides Headcanons That No One Asked For (especially now since no one is talking about Sanders Sides):
1. Would the sides wear fake leather, real leather, both, or neither?
Logan: Neither. He knows both have a negative impact and he just doesn't care for the aesthetic.
Patton: Neither. He does own one real leather jacket but has only worn it once. Logan told him leather is made from cows and he never got over it. Whenever he sees the jacket he cries.
Roman: Real leather. He knows a cow died to make it and he appreciates their sacrifice. He can't wear fake leather, it's too cheap and can't even withstand combat.
Virgil: Neither. He really likes how leather looks but the decision of weather to wear real or fake stresses him out so much he never chose. He would feel bad either way.
Janus: Real leather. He wears real leather regularly and will occasionally wear real fur as well. If anyone asks about it he denies this, saying it's fake and that he would never do such a thing.
Remus: Both. He wants as many things to die in the process of him wearing these clothes as possible. Cows will die to make it and fish will die from the microplastics when he throws it away.
2. Would the sides believe in climate change?
Logan: Yes. He's done his research, knows a lot about it and does his part. Though he will bring up the fact that a single person can't single-handedly solve climate change, he tries his best anyway.
Patton: No. No one has told him what climate change is yet and he isn't on the internet enough to find out. Once someone tells him, for the next three months he brings it up in every conversation. "Have you heard about climate change? Why isn't anyone doing anything about this?"
Roman: Yes. But he doesn't know how it works. He won't admit this though. He came up with his own idea of how it works: evil wizards that cursed the earth. And he takes it upon himself to fix this.
Virgil: Yes. He believes in climate change and is constantly worried about it. He feels guilty whenever he does anything slightly bad for the environment. He still makes jokes about it though.
Janus: Yes. He believes in climate change, knows how it works, and refuses to change any part of his life for it. He doesn't think it's up to him and is offended by the notion. He entirely blames wealthy oil executives and will not recycle until all of them are dead.
Remus: Yes. He is in favor of it and is doing his small part to accelerate it. Janus told him that individual, normal people can't do much to change it on their own and he took that as a challenge.
3. Would the sides still wear a mask in 2023?
Logan: Yes. He hates germs. He also carries hand sanitizer at all times. When people make fun of him for still wearing it he makes fun of them back, with statistics.
Patton: No. He thinks covid is over. He also wants everyone to be able to see his smile. But he will wear one if he's asked to or sees a sign on a store saying they're encouraged. Just to be polite.
Roman: No. He also wants people to see his smile, but just to admire it. He thinks it's a disgrace he had to cover it up for so long.
Virgil: Yes. He doesn't want to get sick, but more importantly, he doesn't want strangers to see his face.
Janus: No. He tells other people to wear their masks because it's safer, but this rule does not apply to him.
Remus: No. He coughs on people in public.

So after obsessing over that last episode nonstop, I believe I have been able to identify some of the sides love languages! (not all mind you, but enough, even though they're all my headcanons mostly). buckle up, this is a long one (don't say I didn't warn you)
Logan appears to be quality time. He clearly enjoyed and appreciated the various activities patton had planned for him, but he was only upset when he had less time to do it. In fact, most of when he's more sad/angry is when he is blown off, as if his time with them isn't valued. When thomas brushed off the chores to go out with nico in wtit, logan was upset and probably less about neglecting his chores (although that did play a part) but more about how thomas promised to spend the day working with him, and then ignored him again. He even asked roman "how is treating their (the viewers) time as valuable belittling them?" in another episode, though I forgot which one I'm sorry. He was clearly miffed that he was blown off in svs, not only because he knew his input was useful but also because he wanted to spend time with them and be involved: "There's always room for me". It seems pretty clear to me that logan is most happy when he gets to spend time doing what he loves (or with people he loves, wink wink).
Patton is probably gift giving, from what I've seen. He saw logans perfect day as a gift, and as such he was too excited to slow down about it because he wanted to keep giving him the gifts (activities). When virgil was fully accepted and revealed his name in aa, patton gave him the card as his own way of saying "you're family, you're loved". The pasta he gave roman had the secret ingredient of love in it too, and he seemed to really appreciate the card virgil gave him, as he hung it up on his bedroom wall. We could even go further and say that since he eats cookies when he's feeling down, that's because he sees the cookies as a "gift" to himself, like his own form of self love maybe.
Roman is maybe words of affirmation, though I admit this one was tough at first. It may not make sense when you look back on all the "jokes" he made about the Sides, but rewatching athd clears it up a bit. After logan questions his repeated mockery of frozen, he replies "look, this is how I show my love", so if he frequently makes similar banter with the others, it could be seen as his form of loving them. He is so easily charmed by janus (at first) because he is given constant compliments from him, and he is too flattered to realize that these compliments could have an ulterior motive. In fact, after he realized that janus may not have meant all of the nice things he said to him, he is outright hateful towards him, because he feels betrayed by someone who weaponized his love language against him. In this most recent episode, he seems less enthusiastic about how virgil gives him a good day, but mostly holds his tongue until the fairy tale virgil reads can be mistaken as prince slander, at which point he defends the prince in the story as much as himself. He only calms down and falls asleep after virgil reframes and adjusts the ending into a more optimistic and loving story about the prince saving the mermaid. He even compliments himself before going to bed, his own self love.
Idk I'm rambling but this has not left my head. If I can figure out the dark sides I'll make another post

Hey there kiddos!
I made this blog so you can ask your favorite father figure figment questions, share the things that you're proud of, or vent just a little, and receive in-character responses!
Now I'd like to go over some rules before taking any asks:
This Patton's time zone is CST (North America) or GMT-6. If I don't get back to you right away I might be busy... Or sleeping!
I'm learning Spanish just like Roman, but I'm not good enough yet, so I can only answer asks in English.
I will answer "personal" questions as Patton in-character. And I want to have fun with this! Feel free to ask me about the other Sides or what I ate for breakfast this morning or anything in between!
I'm more than happy to give advice or just comfort! Dear ol' Dad's here to be a shoulder you can lean on. Please let me know by directly saying "looking for advice" or "not looking for advice", as well as "looking for comfort" or "not looking for comfort".
Let me know if I need to tag certain triggers!
I will not permit hate speech of any kind.
I am not comfortable with asks that are NSFW, as well as asks that deal directly with self harm and eating disorders. (If you are struggling you can of course send an ask!! Sending indirect things like "I need a bandaid" or simply "looking for comfort" are just fine 💙)
Also, I'll try my best to give advice about family and friend relationships, but I'm not comfortable with giving advice about romantic or sexual relationships.
I can choose to ignore an ask if it makes me uncomfortable, even if the reason isn't listed here.
And of course, stay safe kiddos! Remember not to share personal information with strangers online.

Patton Sanders
Just felt like sharing my very nuanced opinions about a certain side. He's not my favorite, but I see a lot of myself in him. Which is both a good and bad thing. Be very warned this is heavily based off of how I act vs. how I've seen him act in canon, but I'm not going to bring up specific in canon moments. It's just how I remember him.
First things first, I adore Patton, but he's trying to juggle too much. He's trying to control his emotions, be the example Thomas is to lead by, be the 'dad' persona, and keep everything in check. Because of this, Patton is manipulative, but I don't think he means to be. I think, most of his manipulation, honestly comes from a place of, things need to be this way morally, if they aren't then Thomas might be a bad person, and if that's the case I've failed him. What am I supposed to do them? Which is a huge weight for any of the sides to carry. Feeling as if though they failed him because they couldn't lead him down the correct path. But what Patton doesn't seem to get, is that he's not the only one making those judgements on morals. All of the sides have their own views on what's a priority and what's moral or immoral. I think in the redux, Patton finally realized that(to an extent, idk if it's an in depth revelation yet), because he saw that he was hurting Thomas. But in seeing that, he and the others ended up hurting Roman, who had looked to Patton for the more moral side of things, because he had thought that only Patton could make the call on that. Because of the sway morality has on the princely side, who's supposed to be doing his best to always do the moral thing, Roman ended up getting really hurt because of this. Also Patton's silence in the end was telling for how his views had changed and he wasn't sure of his stance on anything or anyone anymore, including Roman. Everything was just flipped upside down and shattered for him. Because he had been basing his morality off of his feelings. The feelings he had been trying to juggle, repress, and hide from the others. Yes he had talked to the others about his feelings and repressing and hiding them. But that doesn't mean he's stopped, it's hard to stop a habit that's been so ingrained into your head that no one knew about until recently. And this repression is because he has been raised to view these negative emotions as 'bad' and 'evil' so how could the others like anything about him that isn't perfect and good? And in turn, if Thomas isn't perfect and good, then that's Patton's fault. And on top of that, he's trying to be the dad persona to all of us, someone who's happy and loving. Someone you can always look up to and rely on. He's trying to be all of that, do all of that, and he can't. He's putting too much on his plate, and hurting those closest to him because of that, and he's only just grasped that he's been hurting Thomas because of Janus.
And because of all this, I can't hate him. As someone who was raised in a Christian household, there's a lot of expectations to be perfect. Because I was always 'happy' at school, I was known as the happy friend, where nothing could go wrong with me. I didn't have emotions other than happy. Teachers always looked at me for my good behavior, which only made my need to be seen as perfect worse. Because if I wasn't perfect, who was I? And it ended up with me hurting others, and I never meant to, it just sort of happened. It took my whole world being shattered in middle school for me to start seeing that maybe that wasn't the way to live. That much pressure isn't good for anyone. And it's still a struggle for me, and I'm seeing Patton, someone who is so much like the old me, struggling to learn that for himself. And I can't help but try and cheer him on his journey. Yes he's messed up, and owes a lot of sides a lot of apologies, I am not denying that. But in order for him to try his best to not repeat the behavior, he has to figure out the best way to stop doing it. Which is hard, it's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. And I wish I had had someone who was going through the same thing as me when I was younger, to be able to help me pick up the pieces. So because of all this, I can't hate him. And I hope he's able to figure out how to love himself, flaws and all, so he can start loving others for their flaws too.

Three Glasses in A Room
Patton sees things through sky blue-tinted glasses. It's a sharper image than others would imagine. It's sharp enough to see the little freckles of warmth shining through Logan's seams. Warmth that isn't his. Will Patton be able to see through this or will the blue betray him?
Link to the story on AO3 | Masterpost | Taglist
Something had changed in the mindscape. The air had shifted, a tension, different from the one before, lay over them all.
Not that it was stronger. It had been so very tense for ages. No, it was that the quality of the tension had changed. A shift from desperation and frustration to resentment and – rage.
As Patton walked through the living room, he could smell it; the sweetness of concealed anger and the rich chocolate note of unspoken declarations of hate. He smiled weakly as Virgil walked past him. The side didn’t bother looking and Patton was somewhat relieved in his disappointment. He wasn’t sure he’d be able to fool Virgil into believing everything was just dandy with him.
Probably Virgil wouldn’t have cared to begin with. Which was not a train of thought that would be helpful to follow through, Patton reminded himself and took a deep breath. He had other things to do and would do them. Yes, today he had a goal in mind and headed to the kitchen.
His eyes went to the spot where Janus and Logan had stood the evening after the latest date with Nico. He remembered how Logan had told him that he could handle himself. Which was true. Logan had always been capable of defending himself if needed.
But there had been something that didn’t quite fit. He turned to prepare coffee. Logan might have asked him to leave, so he could deal with Janus himself. That wasn’t unusual. He wanted to have some privacy during conversations he felt unsure about. Also, not unusual for him.
He got out his white mug and took the light grey one out, with the Leo constellation. The little stars on it were labelled, Regulus the biggest since it was the brightest, and the grey would turn a dark blue when hot liquid was put inside. Casually, Patton pulled out the sugar from the top shelf and put a smile on as certain steps entered the kitchen.
“Heya ki- Logan!” Patton greeted his fellow side.
Logan bowed his head with a polite “Salutations.” His eyes drifted to the two coffee cups.
“I made enough for us both. Would you like a cup?” Patton asked as he took the coffee jug out of the station.
“That would be satisfactory.”
Patton filled Logan’s and then his own cup. He put the sugar and milk on the table and sat down. Carefully he watched Logan and patted on the table when he didn’t follow. Logan met his gaze and followed his request. He sat down with his cup.
There was intent in that gesture. There was always intent in Logan’s gestures. There was always a goal in his mind. It just never was an agenda. It wasn’t to manipulate or get people to go his way. Logan was obvious and upfront with what he wanted. Well, not about what he emotionally wanted or required but otherwise it was clear what his actions were supposed to accomplish.
But in his eyes sparked a will to win when he talked to Janus. In his eyes sparked defiance as he sat down with him just now.
Logan didn’t have an agenda.
“Do you mind if I reminisce for a second?”
The side tilted his head to the side and nodded. He moved his free hand in a reassuring gesture.
“This cup-” he pointed at the one in the other side’s right hand - “-was a gift about five Christmases ago. I gave it to you because you’re our brightest little star. You rolled your eyes at it, but you liked the pun.”
“Debateable.”
Patton laughed a little and looked at the mug.
“You don’t use it very often. I wondered why,” Patton said and tapped his fingers on the table, “Remember what you told me?”
The side furrowed his brows, and he looked down at the mug. He drew his hand away from it, looked at it and eventually: “Washing it too often would damage the print of it.”
“That’s all?”
The side’s eyes went from the cup back up to Patton. His mouth fell open for a millisecond before he closed it.
“I did like the pun?”
Patton’s face fell a little. But he was right. At least once he was right. Very gently he reached over the table and taped the hand of the other side.
“Logan did like the pun after a little bit. After I showed him the true glow.”
The side’s hand never pulled back from Patton. The gaze was a little unsteady. Suddenly it focused. He looked up to Patton, the voice slightly changed but not quite away yet.
“They are glow in the dark stars.”
Patton smiled.
“Mhm. You figured that out quickly.”
The calculated expression, the stoic tension in the jaw, they fell and were taken over by barely concealed rage and defiance. Somehow that felt more reassuring than the silent treatment Virgil and Roman had graced him with the past weeks.
“Is he save?”
He began to growl. Quick as the wind, Patton reached over the table taking both of his hands and shook his head. Here was not the place to make a scene.
“He’s with you willingly. I see that. I don’t need reassurance that you did this according to his wishes. I just -”
Patton looked to the door. He pulled his hands back and gulped.
He’s scared for Lo. He’s straight-up scared that what they’ve done has damaged him permanently.
Wide-eyes Patton stared at the side. First, the side seemed confused then he heard in his head: That’s not supposed to hap-
The side shook his head and pressed his hands against his head. The connection had broken, and their heads were theirs again. The side took a sip of coffee and glared at the floor before he focused back on Patton. Patton was hugging himself and eyed him warily.
“Do you want to check on him?”
A pause.
“Would he let me?”
The side understood. He looked to the right and sniffed his nose with an angry grunt. He closed his eyes and listened. He got his answer and turned back to Patton.
“He’d like you to be there if you respect his right to throw you out again as soon as he wishes. And if you won’t, I’ll make sure you will.”
There was a treacherously big amount of hope in Patton’s eyes at that threat.
“No need for that Anger. I’ll cooperate. I’ll do anything if I – if he’d like to give me the chance to just spend a little time with him.”
Anger eyed him thoroughly through the mask of Logan’s face. What must he have said, must he have done to gain such trust, Patton mused and followed as Anger stood. The act of impersonating him and taking Logan’s place couldn’t have any good connotations for him. That he let Anger do it spoke for itself. Or for how bad of a job Patton and the others had done to care for their fellow side.
They were going down the hallway, almost at the spot where one could cross over to the dark side of the mindscape. Patton stopped as Anger did and listened with him. No one was close by. Anger did the next step. Patton followed. The light changed somewhat, the décor got darker, and some spiderwebs made Patton’s heart beat faster.
But all in all, it wasn’t scarier than any thriller Virgil watched on a rough night. Still, he was grateful when Anger reached for his hand without looking and pulled him along. He had also dropped his disguise and was now wearing his own face again. He was a similar height as Patton was, Patton realised and looked at the orange hoodie. It looked rougher than Virgil’s. Heavier. He also wore a white T-shirt and grey gym shorts. And fluffy pink slippers with white socks?
How had Anger more of a dad outfit than him? Any further thought along the line died when he saw the doorway to the living room. Within he saw a similar layout to their own living room, but more importantly so, was the side sitting on the couch. In a dark grey shirt (a horror motive with several bite holes in the sleeves telling Patton exactly who this actually belonged to) and a pair of navy shorts with little white stars, Logan met his gaze.
It didn’t seem like those were the same eyes from before. Patton’s heart sunk but his expression softened. Logan’s hair was messed up from sleep, far greasier than he usually would let it become. The glasses were smudged, and his hands were slung around a plush ice bear.
Intently but without fear Patton stopped and waved gently at him. Logan’s eyes stayed warily on him but his shoulders relaxed as Patton forced his heart to beat slower and take the heat off of things. It would result in heartburn later, but for this, it was worth it.
“Heya kiddo.”
“Salutations Patton. I see you have uncovered Anger’s disguise.”
Patton nodded and looked at Anger. The side had walked between the two of them, arms crossed before his chest and a glare glued on Patton.
“Yeah, I did. I… Would you mind me asking a few questions? You don’t have to, I can leave or just sit and be here if you like. I’m already glad to know that you’re here and-“
“What are you doing? You didn’t come down here just to see me.”
Patton’s finger pads cooled. A tiny breeze twirled around him and then blew over to Logan, moving his hair gently. He motioned his hands to the other end of the couch. For a moment he just watched Logan for his answer. Eventually finding it. Softly Patton strode to the other end of the couch, sat, and looked at him.
“I think we’re both running on assumptions right now. May I make my intent clear, so you can decide to share yours or send me away?”
“That is acceptable.”
Patton bowed his head and folded his hands. He ignored Anger approaching Logan from the side and holding his shoulder protectively. He simply focused on the logical side and brought bitter mirth to his smile.
“I can see that you let Anger take your place. I’m- I’m ashamed to admit that I’m not exactly sure when you two swapped places, but I think that you were still present for the wedding. And I’m sorry for that. You- I don’t know if Anger told you, but I have apologized to you in a quiet moment for – for skipping you. I’m sorry that in my frenzy I believed that the only way to keep Thomas ‘morally righteous’ was to override logic. That was wrong of me.”
Patton paused. Logan’s face hadn’t changed. His hand on the couch had turned towards him and his ring finger twitched. Patton made a move to reach for it and halted. Logan came closer. So, Patton took his hand and continued as he squeezed it.
“I’m worried now,” Patton admitted and looked to his lap. “I know that there is more to your decision than I understand, but you go down here, so close to the subconscious, it seems dangerous and I would like to know what your plan is. And I would also like to know if you’re planning on telling us about this?”
Patton waited to look up again. He wasn’t sure if his angle had been right. He wasn’t sure if those were the words that would make Logan see what he was worried about. He wasn’t sure if he could stand Logan’s look if he was wrong again.
It was the light squeeze of his hand which made him look up in reflex. Logan’s eyes were unspeakably dark. Much darker than Thomas’ or those of any other side. Darker than the night sky, darker than shadows at noon, darker than the supply closet Thomas had been locked into for twenty minutes in sixth grade. And yet, Patton could see the tint of indigo in them and suddenly noticed the change in his expression. It was clearer, a bit more open than before and something in Logan’s eyes reminded him of his smile.
“Being here is as dangerous to me as it is to you. The subconscious has no use for me and my interest to be here had nothing to do with it in the slightest.”
Logan held his breath and looked at Anger. A conversation without words went on, then Logan’s eyes went back to Patton, and he pulled a bit closer to Morality.
“I have come to the realisation that I am rather overwhelmed with everything that has transpired before and after the wedding. I came here with a different intent but through their help,” - He pointed towards Anger and the hallway “I have found a different approach to hopefully better my situation. Anger has been a huge help and accommodated my needs and wishes dutifully. So far, our plan has been going well.”
Patton pressed his lips together. He could see that Logan was unwilling to give up details. Yet, he couldn’t be angry or disappointed in him. Now, after hearing Logan admit that he’d been overwhelmed he realised how much they had put him through. Tears began to well in the corner of his eyes and he turned his head away. Waveringly he pressed his hands over his nose and mouth and forced the sobs in his chest to stay down. He was far too good at doing that.
All was silent for a long time.
“I admit I feel conflicted about this.”
Patton’s voice was ringing through the room as if the walls were glass and ice.
“I’m glad you found someone to help you. I’m glad Anger is helping you and taking care of you. It does hurt that you had to go to someone else than us to find that relief though. We have- I have failed you. Correct?”
Logan mused for a moment. Then he reached over. Laid his arm around Patton’s back and pressed their sides together. He stared at the spot on the floor next to the one Patton was staring at.
“You did hurt me.”
Patton sniffled. He was about to press his hands over his mouth as Logan took them and squeezed them comfortingly. Tears rolled down Patton’s face. Icily they fell on his lap and Logan’s hand. Like shards, they pinged and wailed as they hit the ground. Yet the room was silent. The room stood still, unaffected by time and space and speed. Nothing happed.
“And I’ve hurt you too.”
Everything happened.
The room spun, light flickered, and the clocks began ringing. Anger looked at Morality’s red eyes, looking deep into his soul. Searching for the seed that had it all started, pulling at the threads that kept the mess from unravelling, poking at the sandbags which kept the water out of the city during a flood.
And Anger let him in anticipation of what he’d do next.
“You posed as him, but I still- I still was being inattentive to you in his form. I didn’t help you when Remus came to mess everything up. I- I should have tried to do something, to support you in a way that you needed. But I didn’t. And I never offered you help or a chance as yourself either. I neglected you because of my biases. I don’t know if I can ever make up for that. I’ll try. I’ll be open towards you when- if that is what you want me to do. And we’ll go from there if you let me.”
Anger was quiet for a moment. His expression was surprisingly hard to read and Patton wasn’t sure what that meant. He found himself feeling disappointed that he couldn’t understand the expression on Anger’s face. At how much he had removed this side from himself.
“Noted.”
Not the answer he hoped for. But probably better than he should have expected. He turned his attention back to Logan. He lifted his hand and stroked his cheek.
“Patton.”
Logan’s voice sounded something between annoyed and saddened.
“I know, I know.”
Patton lowered his hand and took a deep breath.
“I don’t appreciate that you essentially ran away from us. But I get it. I... I’m afraid it was a valuable solution to your situation. So, I’m not gonna say anything. I trust you know what you’re doing.”
“And if I don’t?"
A laugh. The eyes turned warm and trusting.
“Usually you do kiddo. And if you don’t, it won’t be a first.”
His voice sounded far more cheery than it ought to be. He stood and looked from Logan to Anger. Both could see the cogs in his head turning until they eventually halted and he settled on a much more solemn look. The smile though remained on his lips.
“I guess, I’ll see you when you’re ready?”
Logan nodded vaguely. Patton looked at Anger, who eyed him distantly. Patton settled for a light bow of his head and waved a last goodbye before he left.
___
Lucas let out a long breath. He hadn’t thought that Patton would be the one to figure him out first. Really, he had thought Virgil would be quicker but apparently, Anxiety was more hung up with Deceit than it was with Logic being off-kilter.
“Are you alright?”
Lucas huffed and plopped down next to Logan. He watched as he pulled off his glasses to clean the smudges with his shirt.
“How am I the priority here?”
“Oh, I expected them to find out eventually. I did wager that either Patton or Roman would see through it first. You, on the other hand, were unaware of my assumptions. And Patton was probably not the one you preferred to find out first, correct?”
For a long moment, Lucas just watched. There was this sharpness around Logan that he used to have back when they started filming. Something clean-cut and simple.
“You plan a lot more than you let on, huh?”
At this Logan smirked. It bore a bit of the charm from Janus, some of the cockiness from Virgil, but different. It was Logan’s confidence.
“I did. Well, I do. But I have improved considerably.”
“How so?”
Logan stood up and stretched. A sliver of his belly showed at the edge of his shirt. He found he didn’t mind and let his arms fall to the side. He turned and saw his reflection mirrored in Lucas’ glasses.
“Spending time with Impulsivity and Anger has taught me a thing or two about tactics.”
Lucas tilted his head in question.
Logan’s eyes glinted mischievously.
“Sometimes you just don’t need to give a figurative fuck. Sometimes, you just have to let them run into the wall they have built and let them tear it down themselves. So to speak.”
The words stuck along with Lucas. He couldn’t get to the bottom of them for a long time. He couldn’t understand, how Logan could be so relieved to see Patton again but at the same time was not willing to let him down gently.
Not when that evening Logan held Remus close to his chest as they watched a deep-sea documentary on the couch. Not when he gently revealed to Remus that Patton knew. That it was part of his plan for the others to figure it out themselves, and that it was probably for the best that Patton was the first to figure it out.
“Why’s the Dad Bitch our best option?
“Because his reaction to finding it out during a confrontation would be the most unpredictable. Roman lashes out verbally, which will be mean and uncalled for but essentially meaningless. He very rarely says things that he actually believes to be true in rage. Virgl’s anger might be more uncomfortable, but Roman, Patton and I have been able to shut him down if necessary. Patton’s bursts are far rarer, and they will hit on a much deeper level than the others. He figuring it out first is ideal. It is even better, as he has agreed to keep quiet about it, since he believes me to be capable enough to deal with this.”
Remus listened closely but didn’t bother to comment on it any further. Lucas heard Logan quietly whisper into Remus' neck during the rest of the night. He couldn’t quite decipher them but judging the tone it was meant to be encouragement. Whatever for Lucas didn’t understand.
___
“He’s never going to accept me.”
“He’ll have to.”
A sloppy wet kiss was placed on Logan’s nose. The logical side made a grossed-out noise and Remus snorted weakly.
“He won’t, little beetle”
“You don’t have all the facts.”
“Which are?”
“I love you.”
With how flatly Logan uttered the words, Remus couldn’t help himself but laugh out loud.
With a smirk Logan sat up on the bed. He watched the duke shake with laughter, pressed his hands against the sides of his chest and manoeuvred himself on top of Remus’ hips. His laughter was messy, unapologetic and loud.
It was also foremost so incredibly sincere.
“And to some extent,” he leaned down and kissed him gently on the still wiggling moustache, “he believes I make the right decisions.”
Logan needn’t say any more. Remus understood the implication. Understood that he was Logan’s good decision. But both of them knew that wasn’t really enough.
Patton needed to look at Remus and understand that he was worth more than what Logan thought of him. Then what he could do for Logan.
That Remus had the same potential to be “redeemed” as Deceit, Anxiety and Anger did. That sometimes not people needed to change but Patton needed to change his perspective to recognise that the person wasn’t bad to begin with.
And that sometimes “bad” things needed to be accepted too.

I'm bored but I don't wanna go to sleep so here's some more autistic sides. (Some of them are me projecting) (some of these are regular headcanons)
Virgil:
Special interests are mcr and horror movies
Used to mask around the light sides until one of them was like "dude we're all autistic no one cares." He still does it subconsciously but not as much as before.
MUST have his headphones within reach at all times.
Hates feeling warm, his room is 65⁰ on cool.
Has a purple lava lamp, hes always watching Remus when he comes over to make sure he doesn't try shit.
Logan:
When he's angry, he tries to rationalize his feelings, feels invalidated by said rationalizing, gets even angrier.
Crofters on toast is a same food for him, he eats it for breakfast every morning
Plans everything out, gets upset when plans change last second
Has a fidget cube to stim with
Patton
NEEDS soft things to calm down, his room is full of stuffies
Speaking of, him and Virgil has a jack skellington build a bear and Patton has a Sally one. (Let them be friends!)
Stims by baking! So many sweets around the house
Picky eater gang💪💪 he can try new stuff but it has to be on HIS terms, yk?
Remus
Chews EVERYTHING, he has chewlery but that doesn't stop him from eating table legs. Regularly chews pens until they explode
Rabies pride Remus. (This isn't even a headcanon at this point.)
Also jumps as a stim! Generally big stims
Hyperfixated on JTHM, regularly talks about the JTHM-> gay cartoons pipeline. Also probably about the 9/11 -> Twilight pipeline.
Janus
Like Logan, he gets upset when plans are changed last second.
Gloves help his sensory issues
Probably hyperfixated on phycology at one point, helped Patton with his plushie video.
Sometimes is the "allistic translator" for the others
Roman
Spinterest is Disney (obviously) but I also see him really enjoying Greek drama. Maybe has a book club with Logan/Janus (when they make up)
Also loves Minecraft, helps him destress.
Probably the reason Thomas got diagnosed at some point
Sings/flaps hands/rocks himself to stim.
Helps Patton bake (LET THEM BE FRIENDS AGAIN) his favorite thing to bake are cupcakes because he likes decorating them.
