ok forgive me if this is sooo loony coo coo crazy to say but as someone who generally writes for the bear with a more "negative" slant on carmy's mom and i fear the originator of such takes i just wanted to say that like even if you do take for canon that she may have been in some instances verbally abusive to carmy for whatever reason i dont think it makes her a totally abusive person ! and i worry sometimes that's what people take from a post or a fic so i just wanted to say like i think there's a ton of room for nuance and forgiveness particularly bc that's what the show is about. and i think things get very hazy and weird and personal when it comes to how loosely or strictly do we apply the word abuse, and must it always be forgiven, or can it never be, and do some actions make you irredeemable, as well as accounting for the culture carmy was raised in and the exorbitant amount of factors that may have influenced how she would've coped with being a single mother who had some kind of issue with emotional liability. at least when i am thinking about whatever shit is between carmy and his mom i'm never like thinking, "she's abusive and wronged him exclusively" i'm thinking like, clearly we know there were some issues in the home and whatever those issues were, carmy seems to view his mother as one of the main contributing factors to them. and whether that's true or half true or just in carmy's head i think that that's something he thinks based on how he talks about her and avoids her. i'm sorry if this is soo crazy but i just wanted to like share my thoughts and say like i think there's a lot of room for interpretation and growth for carmy and his hypothetical mother if we meet her and this got so long bc there's a carmy and his mom reconciliation longfic in the depths of my soul that longs to be released but i never got the chance to actually write it so im so sorry for dumping it in ur ask but anyway p ls if this is weird in anyway disregared LMAO

oh no i totally agree! i honestly probably didn’t word the answer my bit about carmy’s mom particularly well bc you’re right there is a lot of nuance there and whatever she has done to carmy in the past it’s obvious it’s affected him and made him not want to be around her.

honestly like i totally love your takes on the show and your fics i’m just so bad at wording what i want to say i should shut up 😭

i think my thing is i would like to see a reconciliation between carmy and his mom but i don’t want to see that happen if it turns out she was straight up abusing him. but i totally agree with what you’re saying there is so much room for nuance and stuff there i think i was just thinking with fandoms being fandoms there are some people that can take a nuanced take like that and turn it into something else

like i saw someone on twitter say that MIKEY was carmy’s abuser

tldr: i think we’re on the same page about carmy’s mom, i think she wasn’t always good to carmy but not so awful that it can’t be forgiven if thats what carmy chooses. and i love your takes pls don’t think that answer was aimed at you or anything bc it was not omg

oh this is an interesting question... maybe pecking order? it might be because it's the third fic in the series, or because guardiancest shippers are few and far between these days, or maybe even the vomiting tag lmao but for some reason it does not have nearly as much traction as the previous two fics, which is a shame, because i love it dearly! david going kind of completely unhinged as he tries to deal with any new feelings he may or may not be having... bro dealing with that the best way he knows how (not backing down At All)...

alternatively each heart touched but that's just my plug for everyone to go try cultist simulator, actually, i fuckin love that game. it's confusing and weird but it's FLAVORFUL and honestly that's all i want.

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?

OH YES. i see you, you little scamp, because now i am morally obligated to concede that my characterization of MANY characters is informed by the great fanfic writers that came before. you, for instance!! and geometrician's dualshock desertbloom is very informative of my bro characterization.

i am not super sure some of the other blogs i draw inspo from would appreciate the shout out so i'll keep that to myself, but know this: if you have written strilonde fanfiction or we have ever spoken in depth about the characters, i have probably drawn some measure of inspiration from your fics or the things we talked about, because that's how the creative spirit works!

i think that a lot of fandom in general is also often built upon the backs of old concepts and fanon. some of that has gotten torn down over time, like... god, specifically all i can think of is dave rn. like common fanon used to be that he was literally too cool for school and now it's generally accepted that actually that was a massive front and How Did Anyone Buy Into That. i think that maybe some of us have flipped a little too hard in the opposite direction and made dave like. Soft Baby-fied? but i feel that's also a very fandom thing to have happen lmao. oh to woobify your faves for fun and profit. no harm in it but i do think it's very interesting!

41. Link a fic that made you think, "Wow, I want to write like that."

you know i think the most recent experience i had like that is with your words destroyed my planet, explicitly because i want to be able to plot out and execute longfic like this person can. it's a cool fic!

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?

i've gotten a few comments that have stuck with me! the one you sent me on discord made me CRY (in a good way no worries) but if we're talking purely public on ao3...

there was one comment interrogating the like. NATURE of david in my demonstuck series and how i explained it in the fic that was honestly SO interested and gave me a lot to think about.

also someone told me one of my fics made them jizz instantly or something like that which was SO FUNNY to me as an ace person who does not really write or read smut to be horny about it most of the time. why do i? i dont know. it's Interesting, i guess??? like yes!!! CHARACTERS!! smushing our barbie dolls together!!! YES!!! i am EMOTIONALLY TITILLATED

I love your Erwin longfic and fics! One of the reasons why the your fic literally broke my year 2022 beautifully. When I was at work, I was always thinking about the current episode or what was going to happen in the next episode. It was a good time. Honestly, I wasn't that interested in Erwin until I came across your fic. I can honestly say that my view on him is neutral. Because I'm a Levi simp haha. I rarely read one-shot fics here and there and as far as I remember, I didn't come across many long serious fics with dynamics. This must be what some fans are talking about when they say there are very few ErwinxOc/Erwinselfship.

And even though years have passed, I rarely go and read your fic. The last time I read it was on quotev and if I remember correctly I noticed some changes between some lines there and Ao3/Tumblr. I wonder if you edited it.

Anyway, without further ado, I'd like to ask a few questions if you don't mind me asking 😭 I hope this doesn't sound like a selfish question, but are there any Erwin fics you plan to write in the future, like a drabble? and what a coincidence bc i also was neutral with erwin until DIB happened!! i decided to make him my muse when a friend told me she hates erwin for being a 'war criminal'. while i already symphatize with his tragic story, i wasn't knowledgeable enough to counter my friend's claims. writing DIB was also a slow but fun journey for me to transform my sympathy for erwin towards sheer empathy, all the while appreciating how well-written he is as a character ;')

i see ure a quotev reader as well! posting the story in another platform was actually my attempt to inspire myself into editing the whole thing. u see, the first versions of DIB was SO poorly written grammar wise ;( but despite the motive, i only managed to edit until chapter 17!!!! idk maybe i loathed the chapter 18 so much i couldnt get myself to reread it anymore

ems.. so I did something embarrassing today and I can't stop thinking abt it. earlier our adviser was speaking and he cracked his voice and I accidentally like, laughed it was a laugh more like a snort and it was so quiet everyone heard it including him, IDK WHY I KEEP EMBARRASSING MYSELF ISTG. Hi! Thanks for your kind words, and for asking. I always feel some type of way (annoying, that's the way) talking about this stuff on here, but there's no way to answer privately so:

Yes! I am actually going to post something before the end of the weekend that is a fill of an ask from forever ago (indulgent s1 softe first time/virgin w. guys Silver) and have a couple more half-finished WIPs serving as stress relief side projects (more flintvane! ot3 night swimming first time, s4 hurt comfort), plus a concept for another prompt I got (s2 when they still have the enemies with sexual tension vibe going).

But, the big project. S2-3 Gapfiller Longfic, Part the Third, is indeed happening. I've got much/most of the first four chapters written but I'm working out some structural, big picture things and trying to make sure it's actually right before getting back into posting chapters regularly. Frankly I've also been having Existential Doubts about whether this thing is even needed, and writing in general, but let's be real I'm so in love with that version of them there's no way I'm not going to write it. I need to see Silver dealing with being quartermaster, Flint being unhinged during the raids, how their bond develops, and how they manage to not have conversations about feelings and then fuck about it for a bajillion more words. So here we are.

His friends need to stop killing him today. Even Uraraka looked stunning when she came to pick him up.

“He told me to call him Katsuki!” Uraraka is saying happily, and then shoves a beer into Izuku’s hand, “come on, guys! Let’s dance!”

“Fuck yeah!” Kacchan pumps a fist into the air, and then plops it onto Izuku’s hair. Izuku’s face heats up, happy to see Kacchan again. “‘sup, Deku.”

“Kacchan!” Izuku says happily, “I missed you so much!”

“Missed you too,” Kacchan slurs, “I-zu-ku.” Kacchan practically croons his name, and Izuku blushes at how forward drunk Kacchan is.

“The hell are you blushing at?” Kacchan suddenly completely changes demeanors, “I bet it’s ‘cause of me, hah? You blushin’ at me, Deku? Of course you are, I’m fuckin’ amazing. Nobody can resist me. I’m hot as fuck. Right, Uraraka?”

uhhhh let's see. fic related things. recently i've been kind of salty about how so many fics have smut. i know that's kinda the point of fic, to be a place for people to express whatever kind of writing they'd like, including smut and all kinds of it. i totally understand and respect that so much, but i guess sometimes i cant find one fic without it. and at times like those it gets a little tiring because it doesn't even matter whether the characters are ace or not, it would just be cool to read more fics where there wasn't smut. god, especially longfics. longfics w/o smut would be dope as hell. anyway im not sure if that's a controversial opinion or not but as an ace person i want more fics without smut, especially long fics, honestly mostly because its getting to the point where im just confused about why these people are having so much sex. anyway. smut is awesome and i respect and admire all the people who write what they wanna and write smut and read smut and all of that. i just think im really craving more fics where i can just read them and there's just love without sex. which is why i write so much ace bkg, honestly. aside from just legit headcanoning him as ace and because im ace.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Definitely It Had Claws. It deals with deep depression so it’s fairly heavy emotionally and I deeply love this fic for what it allowed me to express.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Hmm I’ve written quite a few short fics that is largely just fluff so it’s hard to say about happy ending. I suppose for one that starts out tense but ends happiest would be To Rescue Her which is a Zev POV of rescuing the warden from Fort Drakon.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I do toy with AU’s but never done a direct crossover.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Luckily not lol

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Sure do! I tend towards writing kink scenes to be honest. I have several fics up on AO3, with some being kink and others just exploring a relationship kind of scenes. Someday would love to finish the vampire smut I have hiding away lmao.

I have not, but would never say no to translation.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A couple of times actually. As for an actual published one, I wrote When All the Elves Love Each Other with @raymurata and its a fun OT3 story where our respective OCs talk to their best friends about the dynamics of their relationship (and get concerned voices wondering if their partner is cheating)

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Zevwarden. If its not clear by every fic on my AO3 and that was listed here lol.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I’m afeared i will never finish my mutant AU WIP. I keep restarting it and being unsatisfied but the idea has literally lived in my head for years at this point.

What are your writing strengths?

I love love love dialogue. I don’t usually fret too much about character voices and it feels easy to follow the natural flow of conversation. I’ve been told I’m also good at writing fight scenes which came as a surprise because I find them challenging but I’m glad it pays off. I’m really visually minded so I guess seeing how it all plays out in my head makes it a bit easier.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I’ve been on a block for a long long time so i’m trying to resist saying EVERYTHING right now. But I do worry about pacing. Sometimes I want to just jump straight to the next interesting thing, sometimes I think I spend too long on conversations or setup that the reader doesnt really need.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

It’s usually done poorly lol. Either translated weirdly, out of place, or you know the “oops sorry I forget to switch sometimes” kind of writing. If someone is mixing a word or two of another language in with what they are saying it doesn’t seem weird to include it (like swearing or endearments) but I think it tends to look cleaner if it just says “they spoke in x language.” Even if writing out dialogue in that other language - I’ll use Antivan for example lol - just write it in English and say it was Antivan if your POV character does indeed understand it. And if they dont understand it, no need to write it out at all.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Lol it was TWILIGHT.

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

This is silly but its still probably Drunk Warden is Drunk because I had so much fun writing it, I still love it now even though its a few years old, and there’s not a single thing I would change about it.

favourite story you’ve written so far: ooh this ones tough. i rlly like how love language came out, and kmjtsmu is really fun to write, but i honestly might have to go w sunday morning. i had a very specific tone and vibe that i wanted to express w that fic and i think i kinda nailed it. i end up rereading it a lot just for shits

fic you were nervous to post: kiss me just to shut me up. i’ve never written a real multichapter fic before so this was a new experience, and i was rlly worried abt things like update schedules and the possibility of me abandoning it partway thru (which i do a lot w one shots. i have so many half dead wips. rip)

how you choose your titles: half of the time it’s a lyric from a song that i think matches the vibe of the fic, and the other half its just. idk. trying to come up w something fitting but also kinda witty. fumbling towards ecstasy is the exception in that its the name of a ballet i saw once.

do you outline?: only sometimes, and usually quite vaguely. i like to write down the ideas i have for each scene and generally what happens in it, but dont go super detailed and leave a lot of it up to when im actually writing. i also like to write down any specific lines of dialogue that i want to include in the scene

complete: all of them except for kmjtsmu

in progress: kmjtsmu, obviously. but i also have a post-canon longfic that ive been chipping away at kind of on and off since 2018. who knows when thatll ever get finished tho

coming soon: the last 3 chapters of kmjtsmu are my priority at the moment. i cant guarantee anything other than that

upcoming story you’re the most excited to write?: i wouldnt call it an upcoming story bc theres rlly not much of it except for a vague outline, but its an ambassador sokka fic that focuses on sokka’s difficulty adjusting to life in the fire nation. i see a lot of fic abt zuko having a rough time as fire lord and sokka caring for him, but not much of the other way around

upcoming story you’re most excited about?: hrm. i dont read a ton of wips bc i cant keep them all straight in my head (i have so many in my marked for later that im waiting to start once theyre complete) buuut im rlly looking forward to updates from feels like we only go backwards, do you take this jerk to be (your one and only), The Prince’s Guard, and i’ll do anything you say (if you say it with your hands), Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dumbasses, Unchained Melody, Epistles, and At the Top of the World. ive also been hearing talk abt a zukka big bang? so im looking forward to those being posted

1. what was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?

ah. okay, so the first fandom i wrote and published for was Voltron, though i will never give away what the pairing was. i was 14 and it was on Wattpad, the rest is forbidden knowledge

2.do you participate in any writing events or challenges throughout the year? if so, what do you like about them?

i recently participated in a few events and challenges, and honestly, they were a lot of fun! i’d have to say that what i like about them is that i get to get out of my comfort zone and push my limits.

3. do you write fics from start or finish, or jump around?

well. uh, no.

sometimes i do write whole fics in one sitting, but usually it takes me a day or two, and i have more than one WIP doc open because my brain needs to switch fics when it gets bored, so to speak. i just need to jump around to avoid losing interest in a story

4. do you outline before you start writing? if so, how far do you stray from that outline?

if it’s a multi-chapter fic, then yes. if i don’t have a clear ending or goal, then the story can and will drag on and on and on lol. sometimes i’ll stray from my outline, since it’s not really a strict set of directions for me to follow, more of something to guide me. very often, my story won’t exactly resemble my outline.

5. what is the perfect environment for you to write in?

late at night with a steaming cup of tea or coffee, or just an energy drink, wrapped in my fuzzy blanket with instrumental music playing.

7. Which part of writing do you struggle with most?

/hj. idk i guess i’d have to say finding the right word when i forget it. or another super annoying thing is that sometimes i have the perfect word in french, and i need to find a good translation for it, but the english version of the word just doesn’t feel the same as the original. that’s very annoying lol.

10. do you enjoy dialogue, exposition, or plot the most?

dialogue. i tend to stray from the plot and i always struggle with exposition, but i absolutely love writing dialogue.

11. if you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be?

angst. no questions. i need to hurt my characters because i love them.

12. is there a trope you haven’t written yet but really want to?

enemies to lovers. i don’t have any actual WIPs with that specific trope, but i do really want to write it one day lol.

13. is there a trope you wouldn’t write if it was the last trope on earth?

alpha/beta/omega. i fully support my writer friends who write it, but sadly i will never write it. it bothers me a little too much rip. i’d rather never write again than write it.

16. what is your most underrated fic?

um. personally, i think that this fic from my urban fantasy AU was really not popular lol. i kinda see why, since its pure fluff and from an AU that is a personal indulgence lol

17. what fic are you most proud of?

okay this Jayroy fic from my bad things happen bingo is definitely one of the ones i’m very proud of. idk, i just like it? i can’t explain why i’m proud of it, but i am.

18. what is a line/scene you’re really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.

He was perfectly capable of doing what Bruce asked him. (not when you’re sleep deprived, idiot) He wasn’t Dick. he certainly wasn’t Jason. But he could still work diligently and without mistake. He could be better. (aw bby you dumb idiot child you dont need to be better)

Tim stared at the person standing in the hallway, eyes narrowed and mug in one hand. He knew for a fact that it took longer than twenty-seven hours of no sleep to start hallucinating. (I BANISH YOU TO SLEEP JAIL YOU UNRULY GREMLIN)

But that was the only reason Tim could fathom the Red Hood standing in the kitchen of Titans Tower at half-past three in the morning. (and that’s valid. i too would think i’d be hallucinating lmao)

Red Hood approached Tim slowly. “You have a lot of nerve wearing that uniform.” (jason please LET. THAT. GO.)

Tim glanced down at his rumpled gray shirt and flannel pajama bottoms. (i laughed writing this. i laughed a lot)

He should be more alarmed that the Red Hood clearly knew he was Robin without the mask, but Tim was too tired and he was going to have to push that freak-out to the next day. (me doing homework at 4am like)

19. who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? why?

this time i’ll go with the type of characters. the easiest character for me to write is definitely the one character i relate to the most/ my comfort character because of course, i know them more than any other character and to some level understand their character. the hardest character to write is probably one i don’t really know or one who doesn’t have a lot of character development or there isn’t much info about them. i’ll still write them, but i’ll be making up a lot of stuff lol.

20. what’s your favorite minor character you’ve written?

hmm. i haven’t written many side characters, but i did love writing Dana Winters. she’s very cool and i like her a lot.

21. what is the one fic that got away?

it might just be me but im struggling a bit with what this could mean, so i’m going to assume it means that one fic that didn’t go where i expected it to (if that’s not what you meant, feel free to send me an ask correcting me lol)

so i’d have to say its the second part of this 2 chapter fic i wrote because a lot of people were asking for more cuddles in the first part. i was not expecting writing another fic specifically for fluff, but here we are.

22. have you cried while writing a fic?

definitely during that one major character death fic i wrote. i wrote the aftermath of the character’s death and i was crying while writing it lmao.

i was crying so much writing the ending for this

23. if you had to remix one of your own fics, which would it be and how would you remix it?

i wrote a sort of road trip birdflash au that i wouldn’t mind seeing as a remix

30. tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.

i’m actually writing a longfic right now. i don’t even know where i got the idea from, but it’s basically a batfam no capes AU where they all practice magic instead and it’s set in 1927.

2018 writer review

i was tagged by my dear friend @veridium-bye (thank you love!). i really didn’t start writing fic again until about october, so this is really a review of three months out of this year, but i’m still really proud of what i’ve done!

words written in 2018: 73,770

number of short fics/drabbles written in 2018: 39 (thirty-one of these were OC-tober ficlets, four were art trade/gift fics, and the remaining four were miscellaneous stories for my OCs)

number of fic chapters written in 2018: 11 (three for All of My Walls and eight for A World Alone)

number of chaptered fics completed in 2018: just one! All of My Walls, a three-chapter fic of aurelia hawke and fenris spanning the time between the “a bitter pill” quest through the end of the in-game DA2 events. it was really important to me for two reasons: one, aurelia and fenris are a rivalmance pair, but a lot of rivalmance fics i see are basically...just hate sex? and for fenris, and for aurelia, there are so many more layers and personal history that lends itself to their romance and creates these waves of tension and sadness and anger and heartbreak, but never hatred. i tackle the rivalmance in a bit of an easier (and generally humorous) light in their shorter fics, but All of My Walls is much more serious and i’m so proud of both of them for growing into themselves and each other and slowly allowing themselves love and be loved over the course of that fic. the OTHER reason that fic was so important to be is that it’s the first long(er) fic i wrote in a long, long time, and i consider it my way back into writing. i don’t think it reads as seamlessly as fics i’ve written since then do, but i’m still proud of myself for creating it, and i’m thankfully that it brought me back into the writing world.

fandoms: only dragon age this year! i haven’t touched my skyrim fic since 2017, and i toyed around with the idea of a kotor fic in the spring, but it never amounted to anything.

pairings: mainly ellinor trevelyan x cullen, emilia cousland x alistair, and aurelia hawke x fenris; HOWEVER, i’m eternally grateful to @fourletterepithet (velthei lavellan x cullen), @haloneshiral (letheia lavellan x cullen), @frecklef0x (anon trevelyan x dorian), and @gingerbreton (ysabelle dryden x alistair) for granting me the honor of writing about their OCs and letting me explore the dynamics of other pairings/relationships! writing for others is a really great experience to grow and strengthen your own writing, so i’m really glad i got to do those stories.

proudest achievements: i’m honestly just...proud i wrote anything at all? it’s so intimidating to come into a fandom that’s years and years old and put your content out there for people to see, especially when you haven’t written leisurely in a couple years and you’re really self-conscious of your work, like i am. but i took the leap, and people have been so responsive and supportive, and i’m eternally grateful for the very kind mutuals/readers i have that continue to inspire me to keep going and creating. some more minor achievements include

starting art trades. before doing this, i truly, genuinely did not believe that the brilliantly talented artists i see on tumblr every day would ever value their incredible work as equal to a short fic written by me. to me, it seemed like trading down. it turns out, i was wrong, and i’ve so far traded three one shots for three beautiful pieces of artwork, and as i mentioned earlier, it’s so refreshing and also so beneficial (in terms of writing skill and practice) to write for OCs that are not my own, so i’m so glad to have done these!

forcing myself to write action scenes. if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably seen me complain multiple times about how much i hate writing action (i even made a meme about it that somehow went viral within the writeblr community lol joke’s on them it was made as a result of me rage quitting a dragon battle scene). the only thing i hate more than writing action is writing mage action, because none of my OCs are mages and all of my friends’ OCs are mages and i cannot understand the dynamics of mage combat no matter how hard i try. but, you can’t get better at something unless you practice it, so i wrote plenty of action in an attempt to get better. and i think (hope?) i did.

starting A World Alone!! my pride and joy!! my first longfic!! my favorite OC!! it’s a slow burn it’s an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers there’s tension there’s sadness there’s powerful female friendships there will be love eventually and i could go on about it for forever but instead i’ll just shamelessly plug it here because i love it so much and it makes me so happy.

writing goals for 2019

i would really love to join DWC but so far it looks intimidating to me because i’m worried i won’t be able to sit down for a night and keep up. but i’ll probably do it. i have so many good prompt posts saved in my drafts that i want to do.

more art trades! i have three already planned for the new year, and i’m very excited about them!

maybe finish A World Alone? i’m writing it at a good pace so far, so it’s a realistic goal.

more one shots. i love my longfic (obviously, as i blabbed about it relentlessly above), but i think shorter fics are such great opportunities to really focus in on a singular emotion and delve deep into little moments that are so brief in terms of plot but so big in terms of characterization. there are a few in particular i’m really proud of from this year (x, x, x, x, x, x), but i’m looking forward to more.
