Smth smth abt how both of them were treated back then and how they treat people now

Like,, Diantha was hurt physically. Her mother would hit her, she burnt her skin, would slap her, even pour liquor on her, telling her to stop crying, crying shows weakness. And then there's her acting career and such and how some roles would often demand more from her body and it'd fuck her up sometimes. There's Ignis, one of the former Elite Four, how he tore apart the LucarioMan cape and hat Drasna got for her, kicking her to the ground, going on how she's a Champion, she should act like one, not act like a child. But she was a child. She was just a child and everyone fucking hated her. Scars and burns littered her body beneath all that concealer and make up and she fucking hated it.

Iris was hurt emotionally. No one ever hit her or anything like that, but rather they'd make fun of her, taunt her, make snide comments on anything abt her. Even as she grew up, everyone looked down on her. Always a shadow of Drayden, a shadow of Alder, a shadow of Hilbert and Hilda. She'd hear comments on how she's just trying too hard, how they still don't see her as a Champion, how could they if they never even saw her as a proper Gym Leader back then. She was always seen as a child by everyone, even after years, still going on how she's just embarrassing herself w how hard she's trying and failing. No matter what she does, everyone fucking hated her. Underneath her faux persona of optimism, her heart was already broken by their piercing words.

But Diantha lacked the physical strength to hit back, instead, she relied on her wits. She was a smart kid. Drasna always told her that, she was rather smart for her age, she knows a lot. About people especially. She knows how to break someone with just her words, knows their deepest fears and insecurities, knows all their imperfections, knows all their flaws. And she'd be the one to voice it, she'd be the one to tell them how they're unfit to live in this world, tell them how useless they truly are, how weak they were.

Iris didn't lack that strength, rather the people of Unova denied she was ever strong in the first place. And if they didn't see it the first time, then she'll show it to them again. She spared no one, made them see how powerful she truly was. The people of Unova didn't appreciate her strength, but Kyurem did, Plasma did. Plasma became so much better with her as the new leader now. They were stronger, even the Heroes were struggling against them. She knows how weak the people of Unova are, and here she is, taunting them about their own strength. She watches them from above, watches them run and cry and scream and fight, fruitless she'd say, as they continue to struggle under Plasma's power, and their fate being sealed with Kyurem's Glaciate.

Alright. I said last night I’d write up my actual serious thoughts about the Chain Scenes in Kabuto and I will indeed deliver on that promise.

I think the biggest thing to remember when it comes to both Yaguruma and then subsequently Kageyama wearing the chains together is When It Happens, because it doesn’t happen for no reason, theres’s something specific that sets it off.

It happens not long after all of This:

it happens after Yaguruma is given the chance to take up TheBee again by Tadakoro, something that he adamently refuses to do, saying he’s found his purpose/enjoyment in living in the hell that he’s chosen for himself.

But Kageyama, who still hasn’t completely lost his faith in being heroic, in doing things on the side of Light, isn’t as keen on just giving up this chance like Yaguruma is, so he instead rushes towards it. He takes back TheBee, and it goes about as well as expected (read: he fails at it yet again.) And afterwards, when he’s laying on the ground defeated, he reaches out to Yaguruma again, the only person who still looks at him as an equal even in the aftermath of failure, and basically asks if he can fix things for him.

And the thing that kills me is in that moment, after Kageyama’s defeat with TheBee deciding he still isn’t worthy of it anymore, we see this happpen:

TheBee literally presents itself to Yaguruma again. The offer of "you can be the one to use me again, I find you worthy once more" is on the table. And he Still refuses it.

And I think what kills me with this is that TheBee here ends up saying two different things at once in this One scene, for both Kageyama and Yaguruma. To Yaguruma, watching Kageyama try out TheBee again, trying to play the hero on the side of Light, and once again failing so hard at it, it kinda ends up reaffirming what he was already believing, that the two of them are in hell and there’s no point to even Trying to play the hero, because it ends badly every time they try. They will always be failures, so why try to change it? They’ll never live up to Tendou and the others, so it’s better to stsy together in the darkness.

And yet, by the very nature of TheBee offering itself to Yaguruma again too, it’s also contradicting that entire notion. It’s basically saying to Yaguruma’s face "Are you really so set in those ideals? Are you sure you’ve really killed off that part of yourself that wants to do good?"

And it ends up being Right in that, because what does he do the very next scene??

He goes out on his own as Kickhopper not only to defend Kageyama for getting his ass beat, but also to help Kagami and Tendou to defeat a Worm together.

And it’s something he clearly doesn’t think super well of himself for doing, because while Kgaeyama is happy to see him after all is said and done, he’s clearly annoyed with both Kageyama and himself for the whole thing:

He’s starting to see that Maybe, Kageyama isn’t as wrong as he wants to think he is, and that having him around is actively challenging the ideals of darkness and hell that he was fine and comfortable being in all this time.

Which then leads us of course to The Chains:

Yeah, the chains are funny/weird as hell and quite a reaction to thinking "hm, I’m failing in my edgy ways, I need to reinforce my beliefs somehow so this drastic measure seems like it’ll help do just that." But when you actually take all the context into mind, it kinda Makes Sense why he does it (and why Kageyama then joins him, because he seeks approval and acceptance and he knows following Yaguruma’s example will get him that.)

Yaguruma’s not cool with the fact that his own supposed beliefs were being actively challenged by those around him, he doesn’t want them to be. He doesn’t want to believe in the possibility that maybe he’s still capable of being good and that it’s Worth doing so. And so he brings out the chains as a way to force his hands Away from doing Anything that might interfere with those beliefs. If he literally cannot act on things due to being bound up, then it’s a problem solved for him and one he no longer needs to worry about.

But I like to give a little love to characters that most people might not know about, in fact here's some random drawings that I had in the back-burner for the past year! Never could find a chance to just post them:

Here's a cute drawing of Cyclone, Maxine Hunkle! Wanted to give her a cute costume makeover. Kinda has a magical girl look to it huh? Took a bit of inspiration from Ojamajo Doremi, but also she's meant to resemble Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! Both the princess and the witch. I have a bit of idea of what I'm going do with her, but that's for later.

Got a drawing of Gan, Jason's friend from the Knight White books. Not sure if she exist in my Training Wheels au, but I like her a lot. Her rapport with Jason was fun to read.

Here it looks like the Outlaws are trying to recruit new members, from the Relative Heroes group, Damara Sinclaire (Allure) and Tyson Gilford (Blindside). They're not likely to join, preferring to stick with their own group. Just as well since Damara's powers might make things a rather chaotic, she doesn't need that drama in her life lol. Tho I like the thought of Tyson helping out now and then, his invisibility would be pretty useful.

I thought about what kinda sidekicks they could have, but I didn't want to look up metals or learn about metallurgy or chemistry or whatever. So I just made them smaller, its just temporary though, aren't they cute? Look at poor Copper, she just wants to join in!

Wouldn't it make more sense for naruto to be fixed in gaara instead of sasuke considering they have more similar experiences (both are jinchuriki hated by their villages) than he does with Sasuke????

okay first of all yes its true naruto and gaara's situation are more alike than his and sasuke that why they have a special bond after all. however i think people end up missing the point of sns' dynamic because yes its true naruto and sasuke are drawn to each other because of their shared loneliness in childhood. however it doesnt end in there.

the whole manga keeps focusing on naruto and sasuke being foils, literally every one of their steps in the story is meant to be a constrast of the other (naruto being desperate for bonds / sasuke running away from bonds. naruto becoming hero of the village / sasuke becoming a terrorist that wants to destroy said village. etc). However they are meant to be complementary too! (their canon moon and sun tattoos, that also represent yin and yang, sasuke's fire and naruto's wind, their complementary colors and all the other stuff kishimoto pulls from every book with them) this is because when naruto and sasuke look at each other they dont just see their similarities, they also see the things they lack in each other. look at naruto's convo with yamato: yamato is telling him how to beat sasuke yet naruto completely ignores that! he focus in the fact that he and sasuke are a good match and that his wind helps sasuke's fire grow. unironically he thinks of both as a set lmao.

thats the point of naruto and sasuke's dynamic. they are like two pieces of a puzzle, they both have their own purpose and they are different but you need them together to work as a whole too. so in a way both are individuals but also an entity

this is literally proven when they both admit they feel each other's pain. yk when naruto is monologuing gaara at the end of their fight he says he understands gaara. this shares similarities again, naruto can recognize their pain (and well every villain's apparently too lol 😭) but theres quite the difference between understanding and feeling. its even the way naruto goes on explains that sasuke's pain doesnt just hurts a little to see, it literally hurts him soo much he cant just leave sasuke alone. imagine how connected you and someone have to be to feel their pain as your own in such a visceral way.

so to put it short yes naruto bonds with gaara and all his other friendships over shared experiences etc but the reason why he is always fixed and puts sasuke first is that naruto cant be naruto without sasuke and viceversa. thats where his obsession to chase him to the ends of the worlds comes, thats why sasuke believes he needs to kill naruto to be completely alone in the world

I wanna hear about the Mob projecting on spirits meta!

Oh dear, this one's fun! You ever just look at the most underrated arc and accidentally unlock ALL of the meta? :D

Okay so the title isn't completely accurate, because it's actually about mob starting to project onto others in the second half of urban legends arc (where s&s gets more jobs after the urban legend hunting), so he’s projecting onto spirits clients and others (that one stalker) too.

Backstory of the doc: this actually used to be part of the “shou meta saga” doc and the section was titled “shou and mob projection arcs” but then i realized the teru meta and how shou and teru are on opposite sides of many themes, so now its in a separate doc and rearranged. it is now at 2k words so far. Theres other stuff I need to explain before getting to it so its a little lower on the priority list.

Summary (the urge to make this the long detailed version is strong aaa): 

So, mob starts projecting onto others in the second half of urban legends arc, and the finale to that is the ghost family, where he says that even if they are peaceful, the fact that spirits have the potential to hurt others means that it's still his responsibility to exorcise them. 

This isn't about the ghost family! It's about Shigeo! This arc is the reverse of the confession arc!

 in confession arc, Shigeo is the ‘villain’ trying to get rid of mob to be free.

In this arc: mob is the ‘villain’, the one thinking of “exorcising” shigeo for others safety.

Here's more things to unpack: 

There's a scale of teru to shou: from teru has a self reflection problem to shou has a projection problem. kageyama is both.

There's also a scale of teru to shou on murder intent (killing others) vs self sacrifice (killing self). Kageyama is both.

See: the killing others is a main character/hero’s “I have powers so i have to save the day by killing the villain” (teru) while the killing self is a self sacrifical hero's “I have powers so it's my responsibility to use it to save the day even if it kills me” (shou)

See when adding 1 and 2 Teru’s and kageyama having a self reflection problem leads to have a side of themselves that they don't consider “them”, so when you add the murder intent to it, we get shigeo wanting to kill mob and mob wanting to kill shigeo. So in confession arc, mob asks teru to kill him. And the possibility of doing that added to teru’s eventual self reflecting/projecting onto kageyama means teru will see himself as a villain and his identity crisis will be like Kageyama's.

In comparison when adding 1 and 2 kageyama and shou’s identifying with the self while projecting onto others is then related to self sacrifice. Mob and shigeo each considering if each should die for the others sake vs shou's projecting onto mob and ritsu. Then in confession arc, when Touichirou explains a self sacrifice plan shou may put himself in touichirou’s shoes and consider sacrificing himself to save him and stop ???%

Okay, see the funny thing is that the confession arc is in order so because ritsu is further along in the character development he's the one who finishes up teru and shous themes.

For terus theme, ritsu recognizes that kageyama has two sides of self connected at the root. For shou theme its the “maybe I can stop him by sacrificing myself/getting trauma.” before realizing that it's a bad idea.

For every shou and or teru fan crying about their arcs being unfinished im so sorry to tell you it's intentional! because the character arcs are all connected! and the characters at the end of confession arc are the ones to finish up the character arcs! SHOU FANS AND TERU FANS WE WERE ROBBED BY DESIGN!

My Number One Tip on Writing a Convincing Villain

the following is MY personal number one tip on writing villains and BBEGs for whatever use you may need them for. It are in no way the DEFINITIVE way to write a villain. I for instance like writing more morally complex villains that let the players think about the villains motivations because when the players can question if the villain is fully wrong it can lead to more interesting interactions. This is just a process I use. If you want your villain to be a true and horrific villain, then by all means do so. All that being said lets get into it! Everyone is the hero in their own story: Put simply its exactly what it says on the tin. If your villain is doing something villainous its usually because they think its the right thing to do. If you want your villains final goal to be to plunge the world into darkness, ask yourself WHY your villain wants to do that. Maybe its as simple as theres a much larger threat coming that feeds off of light or can weaponize the light in some destructive way, so there can be no light on the surface and millions will die. Or maybe its more complex than that. Maybe the villains clearly tragic backstory has a part where a group of paladins of the sun god committed some great atrocity against him and he vowed to blot out the sun so people will lose faith in the sun god, rendering him powerless. Both of these different reasonings give way to interesting interactions between the party and the BBEG. They also allow your VILLAIN to act VILLAINOUS without being absolutely reprehensible. As an example well use the first idea from above here. The BBEG is actually trying to protect the world from a much greater danger. The party could come across an absolutely DESTROYED caravan. Charred guards skeletons still in their soot blackened armor, a horse and buggy absolutely blasted to splinters, the ground charred and burnt 100 feet around never to grow plants again. the party comes across this with no context and its an inarguably horrific scene of brutality only a short time past. Its destructive. Its horrific. Its villainous from the parties perspective. But on the other hand... we have our BBEGs perspective. the caravan had some kind of super rare or even one of a kind super powerful magical reagent the BBEG needed to cast his ritual to plunge the world into darkness. He tried to settle things peacefully. He tried to explain the situation to the guards. But they drew weapons, discarding his stories of a light wielding monstrosity as a bandits distraction. Your BBEG doesnt have time for this. Time is running out. One spell. One blast. They died instantly. Painlessly. a few quick deaths to prevent the slow painful deaths of millions. A regrettable sacrifice that needed to be made. The Interaction of these two wholly different perspectives on the same horrible event allow for some of the most interesting role play possibilities in TTRPG or even just simply written history. At least in my opinion. this one interaction of the players coming across this scene after the fact also opens up many possibilities for the narrative. Do they side with him or oppose him? Do they talk or fight? Do they oppose him, only to talk to him halfway through the game, then side with him? HOPFULLY. Examples of this idea in fiction include Magneto from the X-men, Black Adam from Marvel comics (Not the movie. ew.), and oddly enough Principal Ed Rooney from ferris Beullers day off. (Think about it. Hes just doing his job.)

karinas lack of real character arc (AGAIN!) so that she can uhhhh talk about crushes... instead of, for example, have her be an equal hero on-screen to the guys who have already been king of heroes and she works arguably harder than anyone else (she is a hero, an idol, and a student). shes so interesting, theres so much to her! but most of her appearances just serve to further some guys character arc (like the whole blue golden episode is mostly about ryan!.. or kotetsu even! cmon)

the character arc that antonio got that wholly ignored that hes friends with nathan and which makes me actually lose my mind when i think that those two have frequently been shown together but they didnt have a single convo together so that nathan and keith can be confined to a cage where theyre only interacting with each other instead of having any real plot relevance despite them both being really interesting!..

and the fact that antonio/agnes made its way into the show bc the director likes him and you know... agnes was her stand-in, and another reason to not let nathan talk with antonio ever because yknow?.. it just tastes like ash in my mouth to feel like the director felt some type of way about nathans and antonios prior relationship...

the buddy hero system was utilized so poorly! it threw so many characters under the bus like ryan seriously got way too much time in blue golden and their prior relationships with each other were ignored so much like man... i just love them all interacting. i dont love whatever the hell was going on with, for example, nobody noticing that thomas is gone. my heroes wouldve noticed immediately btw. instead of subaru and thomas being in a cage where they only interacted with each other, the buddy hero pair curse of 2nd cour that almost everyone suffered from

lets not even get into that even if they say that yuri is actually fine haha! they cant remove that scene where kotetsu and barnaby stared at him and went like “hmm thats rough buddy... anyway”. what the hell... kotetsu is one of the characters i think of the least and it was just so grossly OOC and just plain disgusting... the entire abuse apologism arc with yuri and lara overall as well

what about that fucking scene with jungle where they implied shady shit was going on when subarus communicator didnt go off and he was recruited as a double for thomas anyways and uhhh (checks notes) literally nothing came out of those plot threads btw. jungle CEO was introduced for no reason

and they cant remove what they did to ouroboros (the way they made it all-powerful illuminati-esque organization instead of plain old corruption etc), and the whole NEXT disease ooohhh-thing, and the literal internment camps and the various deeply bigoted implications thereof plus lackluster new character designs (oops! almost all white, pale-haired and blue/green-eyed).

how could they bounce back from this and do i even want to see them try to ignore OR try to grapple with any of the above. oooh when i get my hands on the people who were in the writers room...............

Caine- flight. eyes closed, he doesnt want to see whats going down, and hightailing it as fast as possible. thats what happened during checkpoint three in retri, and wouldve been his choice during heartbreak if they werent ! that said, after the bad dream (the one before we meet chen in the boneyard), he Did stay stock still, since he got the freeze instinct trained into him. (actually i just remembered they punched mitchel (from @hyper-pixels, hi) after they woke up from a bad void dream???? so maybe they just have a weird amalgamation of instincts that crop up depending on the situation).

Cyrus- its a toss-up between fight and flight for him– hes 100% a coward and not afraid to cut his losses when he thinks he needs to, but at the same time, hes a stubborn bastard and has a Lot of anger to spare. generally speaking, his first instinct is fight. its only after he takes the time to assess a situation when he decides what hes going to do though– if he thinks he has a fighting chance, hes going for it. interestingly, hes less willing to fight things now that hes a villain than he was as a hero.

Cecilia- fight. honestly, theres no debate. anybody who has the audacity to scare her is going to face one (1) Incredibly pissed off ceci and probably more than a few fresh bruises. she hates feeling scared–it makes her feel powerless, and thats something she swore shed never experience again. fighting her fears makes her feel like theres something she can do about it, even if its superficial.

Cynthia- its either freeze or fawn, and the farm taught her both <3 she cant bring herself to fight or run because both actions were punished. she found out quickly enough that just taking it gave her a lighter sentence overall, and she continued to use that. fun(?) fact, 'just taking it' pretty much carried her into becoming a fighter step, because her pain tolerance is high as hell now. she still takes the armor upgrade though, just in case.

19. How does your OC behave when enraged?

Caine- hah. ok. well, in most cases, he wont hurt you. most of the time, hed settle for a clenched jaw and a glare. also not above leaving the room, no matter how important the person theyre talking to is. id say they get quiet when theyre angry, but theyre quiet most of the time so itd be hard to differentiate between normal quiet and 'fantasizing-about-watching-the-light-leave-from-their-eyes' quiet. if they have a reason to hurt them though? if hes in his armor, or its otherwise possible to inflict sufficient damage to them? at least One bone is breaking. if the person is regina specifically, shes not leaving the interaction with her life.

Cyrus- tear the bitch apart. psychologically???? physically???? emotionally????? why not all three of them! it would really depend on the situation, but by now cyrus knows how to rein in his anger just enough to figure out what would hurt somebody the most. this could range from kicking their ass to giving them a breakdown by systematically targeting their fears/insecurities. hes a cunt, but hes Smart about it.

Cecilia- Lots of yelling. probably more than a few punches too. her anger is explosive and raw, and its very easy for her to get caught up in it. that said, it doesnt last long either– once the initial anger burns out, shes willing to forget about it. if you piss her off, its a matter of how good you are at weathering the brute anger, which, granted, can be hard to do considering ceci like to hit things. she likes to hit things hard.

Cynthia- that depends when in the timeline she gets angry, because those have very different answers. pre-retri ending, she Refused to show her anger. you could not force her to. echo may end up being slightly more erratic if she got into an argument or something like that, but that was it. but the minute ortega accused her of being a regene copy? that switched up Quick. if she was going to be seen as a monster and a fake, fine, shell play the part. nowadays, getting her pissed means you have a target on your back, and not only is she patient in ruining your life, her high caution means its very difficult for her emotions to blind her. she acts cold, nearly apathetic, but rest assured shes finding out exactly what makes you tick.

i've talked abt wt spin off au and windblume rewrite a bunch on this blog so let's go with amber and collei liyue trip!! :DD someone comes and tells amber they heard something about her grandfather in qingce while collei's in town and obv collei's like i can't hold you back on this! so they jsut decide to go together bc collei's packed a bag anyways and they're both adept w survival skills surely their different skills will come in handy for liyue. going to qingce leads them to going to yilong port (i'd do qiaoying but i feel like its too close) and amber's like. kinda stumbling w her broken canto-mando and feeling weirdly emotional and she and collei both bond w "coming back" to a generational homeland while feeling like a stranger and its an important moment to both of them bonding as friends and a pivitol point of collei changing her idea of amber as a savior as more of amber as a best friend yk :''). also ga-ming....... i don't know if he'll stay for long bc honestly i do want it to focus on amber and collei but i think it'd be fun for him to at least make an appearance or sm yk!! the narrative there could be so compelling.

Ritsu! Popular, all-rounder kid in academics and sports who started burning out in university and dropped out to pursue music with a few of his friends. it worked out for them, and his life is relatively stable. kinda stable. a little stable. really depends on your definition of stable. here’s the facts:

he's a good 5'11, about 24 years old

he went through a lot of friends in his later school life. had many, lost many, and struggled to make friends in university. Found some buddies in their second year, made a band, dropped out with them at the start of third year.

So remember the ???% incident in childhood that led to Ritsu getting hurt and Mob being unable to remember what happened? That's where we're getting at. It was never resolved in their childhood or adolescent years. Ritsu tells Mob he doesn't remember either, and tried to sweep it under the rug. Worked for the most part.

his PTSD was delayed onset. his symptoms were there, but not enough to fit the diagnostic criteria. they got worse in university because he was experiencing heavy burnout with no one he felt like he could turn to. he'd moved out and was struggling to make friends.

he has nightmares which only increased in frequency, something he never gave much thought to because they figured it was a logical response to the event. didn't bother to question it either even when he had been experiencing them for months since he had other things to worry about. doesn't mean they didn't bother them and scare them though.

sometimes they just don't show up and don't reply to messages after shooting a quick text to his mates about feeling ill. his bandmates were getting concerned.

a little bit difficult to work with in the studio sometimes because he has difficulty concentrating and doesn't seem present.

terrible sleep quality, something he and his brother have in common.

often lacks motivation to do anything outside of his music job and things he feels like he's obligated to do, like hang out with his friends sometimes. never moves things out of place in his apartment, but his room is usually a mess because he struggles with cleaning up.

Ritsu had no fucking idea how to cope with any of this and made a decision to remove their perceived source of trauma from his life. He completely cut out Mob from his life for a few years. Blocked his number. Blocked his socials. Moved and never gave him a new address.

at first he felt as though he really did something to fix things for himself. after all he didn't need to bother checking up, visiting, hanging out with a person who had caused him all this trouble. he felt optimistic about it at first. waited for their own symptoms to get better. eventually no matter how he looked at it he hadn't fixed anything. he was still being stubborn for years after cutting his brother off.

had a breakdown in front of his bandmates and they started asking him to get help. he caved in and he did! now they're learning to live with their PTSD and their issues in a healthier way. but he's also starting to really miss his brother and feel like an asshole for lying to him about the incident and leaving him in the dark.

soooo that's all that's going to be revealed in this post. more on mob's side of the story and how they try to fix things next time? i've actually already written a oneshot on it but i'm not sure if i should share it. i'll go ahead and burn that bridge when i get to it afbdhsakfb but if you're still reading at this point thanks so much for reading until here 😭😭😭

sometimes i think of an interesting fic concept for a fandom other than this one and think to myself, “gee, this is such a good and obvious concept, surely theres fics like this out there” or “ooh, this piece of media had enough dark elements, surely there has to be some good grimdark aus somewhere” and then i open ao3 and am forcibly reminded of the fact that the dream smp is the only fandom that isn’t obsessed with slash fics and i just have to wallow in the lack of nice content and my own inability to write (and, lets be honest here, commitment to most fandoms outside of the dsmp atm) 

like genuinely, i dont think i can name a single fandom outside of the dream smp that has such a wide array of found family/friendship centered fics

stranger things? its all steddie or byler (as much as i love the both), etc.

my hero? its all bakudeku or tododeku or shindeku or literally everyone with deku.

detroit become human? its all hank and connor or connor and gavin or gavin and nines or markus and simon, etc.

our flag means death? its all co-captains (as much as i adore them as well) or steddy hands, etc.

the mcu? its all stucky or stony (or incest or selfcest lmao), etc.

sander sides? its all prinxiety or analogical or moralogical or lamp or lampd or whatever the new lamp plus janus and remus ship name is (yes more selfcest), etc.

gotham tv? its all nygmobblepot or jim and oswald or bruce and jeremiah (which i have so many questions about, but that is not the point of this post lmao)

etc etc

and i genuinely think its to a lot of these fandom’s detriments that everything has to be centered around a ship no matter what (esp mcu spiderman, pleASE GOD JUST GIVE ME GOOD POST NWH PETER PARKER ANGST THE CLOSEST THING IVE GOTTEN IS FUCKING SPIDERMAN!TOMMYINNIT AUS DO YOU SEE MY PROBLEM) because it really stops fandoms and fan-creators from really exploring the platonic and familial relationships between these characters and that exploration being in the main spotlight. 

like sure, steddie is great, but i would love to read a big fic that is all about Steve and Robin moving away from hawkins together and navigating the city and sharing an apartment together and losing their shared jobs every week and continue to explore and establish new boundries and systems with each other and learning things the other never thought were important but brings such important insight into the other that they need to understand each other even better. 

bylers cool, but i also want to read about will and el finally getting to meet each other and know each other and realise theyre so much more alike than they originally thought, never quite being seen as people, as the kids they are, but instead as these cool beacons of their friends’ efforts against the upside down and the government, and them becoming siblings, becoming the wonder twins, i want to see will trying to teach el how to draw, and el showing will all of her favorite tv shows, and the two becoming so intertwined that they know every preference the other has and how they can support each other through public school of a foreign town.

sure, bakudeku or tododeku’s okay, but i want to read a fic all about izuku growing up quirkless and what that means for his relationships and how much closer he is with his mom than other kids his age and how deep his mistrust of any other adults runs and what that means for how he acts once he finally gets to ua and how he sees all might as a surrogate father in place of the man that left him and his mother for the states and how that and his god worship of the man affects how he treats one for all and how he makes his decisions and how he prioritizes what all might tells him over what is actually good for him.

hank and connor is.. something, but why cant we read about how hank sees his son in connor and how it affects him to watch connor make these self destructive decisions in order to prioritize human life and his instructions over himself, and maybe about hank attempting to scare connor into deviancy, into some kind of self preservation, so that the poor thing can at least make a decision for himself and prioritize himself, and not die.

i love the co-captains as much as the next guy, but i want to read about how stede came across his crew, how he came to find out they like the children’s stories that he only held onto to remind him of his children, how he looked at lucius and saw himself in him, how lucius somehow managed to grab hold of every trait stede was bullied for, that was trained out of him, and emphases them and make them into a special kind of armor, and how stede takes lucius under his wing just to watch over him so that the boy will have someone on his side when he inevitably trips in his dance past (lets face it flirts and insults through) every hurtle that caught the heel of young stede’s shoe. how stede now will look up at that painting of a lighthouse and wonder if the problem wasnt that he wasnt a lighthouse, just that he hadn’t found the shore yet, and now maybe he has.

Do you see what I mean? How many fics are there that are like this that you can name off the top of your head? very few i imagine.

on top of this a lot of fandoms, because of their lack of exploration of non romantic relationships within their media dont only miss out on the sweet or bittersweet but the all fascinating grimdark aus that may spawn out of taking an absolute ship-less lens on the media you consume, i mean, the only fandom i can find any good or nuanced grimdark forced family fics in is, again, the dream smp.

and this has happened multiple times, where im watching something and i cant help but imagine how good a ctrinity style grimdark forced family au fic would be with these characters with these dynamics, btw.

(cw for all of the fun stuff that comes with forced family like kidnapping and implied abuse and characters overall being miserable lol - its not important to read, its just examples of dark aus im talking ab, just scroll to “etcetcetc” to skip past all that stuffs)

multiverse of madness, where instead of wanda trying to get to america and killing her in an attempt of getting her to make a portal to a universe where wanda’s boys exist going as far as it does, america offers herself up as her surrogate daughter and bringing the both of them through to them and living a normal life as a family in exchange for wanda to stop tearing places and people apart in this universe and others and for America’s life to be spared. and so she brings them both to a world with wanda’s boys, and wanda is just so so blinded by her own excitement and joy. she discards of that world’s wanda quickly, careful to ensure the boys were still asleep. then weeks, months maybe, go by and the boys start having nightmares but wont tell her why, what the nightmares are about, instead they wait until the door is closed and wanda’s down the hall to murmur in hushed tones about what they saw. (”shes not mommy, is she? mommy doesnt act like that. where did mommy go?”). america tries to pretend everythings fine and that theres nothing wrong with this twisted family dynamic wanda’s built up, but she cant truly hide its affect on her, the bags under her eyes are heavy and her fingers are always twitching, she flinches when wanda gestures with her arms to wildly and freezes when one of the boys accidentally breaks a glass. wanda doesnt stop using the darkhold. she could stop using whenever she wanted to, is what she tells herself, but she just needs to ensure no one is going to show up and take her boys away from her, she has to make sure america remains by her side, she has to make sure nothing goes wrong again. she can stop whenever she wants to, the thing is, she doesnt want to stop.

gotham tv (s4), where ra’s successfully kidnapps bruce and takes him and jeremiah under his wing, trying to raise them both to be like him, maybe barbra gets kidnapped aswell. ra’s wants them to act like a family, him as the father, barbra as the mom, and bruce, jeremiah, and talia as their children. at first this is all jeremiah could ask for. hes close with bruce, his need for simultaneous creation and destruction. a brother he didnt hate, and a present father. at first bruce is all angered yelling and venomous insults and scathing sarcasm. he comments on wanting to go home at every opportunity that presents itself, how he preferred alfreds cooking, he liked jim’s stories better, selina taught him cooler things, some days hed even complain about missing the criminals of gotham in an attempt to emphasis just how much he does not want to be here, no matter how cushy the bedding is or how nice the locals. at first all barbra does is attempt to kill, or at the very least injure, ra’s. some days its a steak knife to the gut, some a fountain pen to the face. ra’s is fine every time. hammer to temple. she doesnt buy time for herself, nor bruce. rope around the neck. she cant even injure him in any long term way. boiled water down the front. for a long time talia is jealous of the attention her father gives bruce and jeremiah. he spends long days trying to train the two in tandem, showing them how to protect themselves and how to injure others, how to tell the differences between the dead languages and how to read the basics, how to earn the trust of others and force them to fall into the trap of owing you favors. that is until she discovers how they all ended up here. shes left wondering if her father truly has the right of the world at heart, if she has to respect him and his decisions just because she is his only true daughter. jeremiah isnt having fun anymore. bruce has gone completely silent now. barbra has long since been subdued and doesnt even try to fight anymore. but talia stays quiet, even as the first time she hears bruces voice in months is when he yelps and tries to cover his face from being struck again, even as jeremiah mumbles to himself about someone named jerome, even as barbra spends her time staring whistfully into a bird bath when shes not cleaning or sitting pretty. (she tells talia, one quiet evening - a break from ra’s training bruce and jeremiah until they break, instead they’re allowed to curl up in a corner together and try to decipher books written in hundreds of dead languages - how she’d been engaged once. she wasnt happy, but she loved him nonetheless. she told her that she wondered sometimes how she would have turned out if she hadn’t left, if they got married. would’ve one of them left the other eventually anyways? would she have still ended up here? talia wishes she didnt talk to her, if only because it made staying quiet and continuing to live her life as a bystander harder.)

unfortunately though, the dream smp (as far as ive seen) is the only fandom that explores family relationships and friendships so thoroughly and then delves deeper into more dark and upsetting aus (ive already said it once, but c!trinity!!) without there being a worry about weird romantic or sexual implications or plot points (which i partially blame killing stalking for the existence of - kidnappers arent hot pleeaaase)

the dead dont dream by penink - ctommy dies during exile, multiple times actually, and dream thinks this is the perfect opportunity to test out the revive book

withered by ThatWeirdGuyInTheBush - Manburg is a real country in a world based on the 1940s, and ctubbo decides hes willing to do something drastic for the good of his country

guided evolution by fathermooshroom - ctommyinnit becomes spiderman, unfortunately being spiderman comes with all of the issues of being spiderman and having a secret identity (i cried uncontrollably multiple times dont let the beginning trick you)

If You Need Somewhere Safe by random_on_main - when ctommy finally escapes logstedshire he takes sam up on his offer of giving him a place to stay rather than hiding in techno’s basement

its now 5 am, i only made this because i was thinking about that one video of someone talking about how weird it was that the top two relationship tags according to the stats ao3 released where gen (wilbur&tommy and wilbur&techno&tommy) and basically making it obvious they only thought the only reason you would write or read fanfiction would be for ships and slash fics and just,, how sad that is, because this fandom has some of the best fics ive read without even considering putting any romance in the spotlight and i think its far more fulfilling to be able to read fanfiction for the sake of a good story rather than getting to see two characters kiss (which is not to say reading fanfiction to see two character kiss isnt exactly what you need sometimes, im just saying theres more out there to love), and also because i was frustrated by the fact that nothing interesting looking came up when i looked up the tags ‘post series: no way home’ and ‘homeless peter parker’ lmao. if yall have any good post nwh angst pls pls pls send it my way, i need desperately to cry over a character that is not tommyinnit please. im gonna crash now, sorry if this long this is shit - its wayy too fucking early.

gently whispers in my half asleep state so vaguely hand gestures if this is worded weird:

villains / big bads / reluctant enemies / etcetc however you wish to describe them, villains are incredibly complex. not everyone is going to view them in the same manner, not everyones going to be comfortable with the actions they take, decisions they make, their inner thoughts and feelings on what they do. but writing villains as what they are - villains - means understanding that how they think, how they behave, is very different than your heroes, your good guys, your in-between background npcs. me writing nancy for example is very much me taking her and pushing her slowly into more extreme territory ie her abilities, or the fact shes been killing since she was a child, or how shes treated johnny as he grew up. its looking at thomas and focusing on the effects of his familys situation, of charlton & charlies a.buse, his being bullied growing up by kids his age, how charlie uses that against him to upset and rile him up to be so aggressive and violent and kill under the guise of "protect the family" but hes also just needlessly being a fucking dick and re-triggering tf out of thomas. its ludas complacency in charlie coaxing the hewitts into that territory of both killing & eating people. the hewitts & sawyers are villains but theyre sympathetic in the sense of their respective situations - poverty, a.buse, disregarded and left to rot by the gov. & leo's. their family dynamics are complicated and confusing af - but theres a twisted sense of bond, of devotion, of loyalty, to their families that at its core is still very human and understandable.

maria, lee, and those with dire au's are all villains in those respective verses and routes yet are still sympathetic because of the way their hands were forced, into becoming complacent, into wanting to not endure the conditions and hells they were subjected to in order to survive. "domesticated" routes for cc / nosy isnt lined up to give them a "redemption" arc of any type - its the exploration of how two people who've lived in this dynamic for so many years have not only been affected by those days to weeks to months to years of repeated conditioning & reinforcement & praise & isolation, but is also their respective effects on those theyve bonded with in that time and how that, in turn, has altered the life they live under this shared roof. its sad. its tragic. its complicated and confusing and infuriating to anyone on the outside looking in - but for them? its their normal. its their comfort. its their home. its their new family, because the one they had before everything went to shit all but seemingly, in their eyes & it being drilled into their heads through those twenty years, all but abandoned them, left them for dead, left them to rot. and as fucked up as it is, they found that love & loyalty in the situation they were left in - and in one another, in maria & lees case in nosy. as skewed and unreliable as their perspectives are.

writing villains and how they affect those around them, those they encounter whether on positive or negative terms and how they also are affected by those people and scenarios to me is part of what makes them very interesting.

insane and unorganised brainwaves i wanted to jot down abt araidne (the song) and how it parallels things (obbligato spoilers)

scing what my friend said for a start point and yes !!!! fucking yes !!!

like thats also interesting bc if its a kaname song we dont know if he wrote it specifically about someone or how impersonal it is to him or not (theres some sort of potential link if it was kaname or perhaps a gifted song) however if it turns into a semi oremerupilled lyric change then it is also almost a sign/perception shift;

either oremeru is further embracing and refining his dedication to kaname as this reads a lot like a coauthored song OR if he redesigns it for himself it also redefine the way he sees himself adopting the kaname mold and whether this takes away from the og kanames vision of the song or not remains to be seen.

ultimately something something labyrinth for kaname means his own family troubles and/or the hierarchy at reimei and how it affects him and his own naivety or if oremeru changed some stuff around is he dragging out what he perceives as his godlike figure; not as a god per se but his main drive going forward with the imperfections and morality issues that come with holding someone above your standards and personal perception

the duality of himeru doing his best for kaname to have an idol place to return to bc he knows thats his biggest dream vs knowing its erasing himself and if kaname thinks his integrity and dreams have been crushed but still !! the fact that they used ariadne specifically bc she rescued theseus from the minotaurs labyrinth is so interesting bc we dont know if there any implications abt who is who. like theyre talking abt ariadne specifically. who is what. whos leading who out of the maze to impending doom.

who saves the one who saves the hero. what fucking then. something something considering that she eloped w theseus in a different story denotes how the brothers r both not supposed to band together and then in like 2 separate myths shes abandoned by theseus. which could either relate to kanames hospitalisation or the distance the two put apart by himeru. the love the longing the innocent betrayal the expectations the fact that theres no clear lead in what they had bc fucking both of them werent as attached like kaname loved the concept of himeru in his head so much and himeru didnt reciprocate until too late !!!

hes trying to make up for lost time by trying to save the person who saved him first even if its fruitless and his revenge arc is taking it out mentally on tatsumi and altering his relation w him without kaname. what if their selfishness is both their undoing and reprieve. what if i wasnt mentally ill even if the song didnt matter personally the song matters to himeru since he has the feelings associated w kaname. the song may be empty but the heart is full. like to oremeru specifically the song has no physical connection. to what is wavering between him and kaname (and to some extent to vision of himeru he sees) while it is a crazy:b song they absolutely slammed it on, its like himeru gets to convey more of kaname. to the world.
