Buddie 7x01 Meta

Okay! Finally, I was able to watch the full episode uninterrupted and have had a couple days to gather my thoughts. Quite simply this episode was fucking fantastic. My meta does sometimes include some spec, so if that's not your thing feel free to ignore those parts. Those of you who follow me know I write long ass essays, so fair warning for a long meta under the cut. ((Also idk how to make gifs, so enjoy my shitty screenshots)).

First, I love to see Buck and Eddie back at it again in their natural element being partners on a scene.

This was very obviously a call back to season 2, even down to the positioning, having Buck watch Eddie be competent in defusing a bomb. Buck has complete faith in Eddie's abilities, it's the fighter pilot whom he distrusts. In the end, they narrowly avoid getting blown up, just like they did in 2x01. This one scene re-establishes the Buck/Eddie work dynamic and shows how they inherently trust each other on and off the field.

Next, we get a scene of Buck and Eddie getting dressed in the locker room. Notably, Buck is fully dressed and Eddie is without his shirt until halfway through the scene. Buck also keeps his eyes on Eddie's naked torso pretty much through the whole shirtless section. This is another blatant callback to season 2x01 when Buck's first introduction to Eddie is when he's shirtless. This draws attention specifically to Eddie's physical attractiveness and how that affects Buck. This scene is odd to have with Eddie half-naked if we're then gonna make comments later on about "sexual tension" with friends, no?

In the same scene we are reintroduced to Buck and Eddie's separate love lives. Eddie is just now learning that Buck and Natalia broke up, and gives an odd facial expression that looks far too much like vindication. We know from the graveyard scene in 6x17 that Eddie wasn't really a fan of Buck's relationship with Natalia (I don't think there's ever been a relationship Buck's had where Eddie has legitimately been happy about it, which is weird if they're just friends, right?) so to him, this was always coming down the road. He seems proud that Buck was able to end it this easily.

Meanwhile, Eddie's going on a "not-date" with Marisol to chaperone Christopher's date with Penny. It's telling to me that Eddie doesn't classify this as a date with Marisol, but Buck does. Buck considers being at home watching Christopher as a date, and yet he seemingly doesn't classify all the times he's been over at Eddie's hanging out with just him and Chris to be a date? To me, this shows the first big disconnect in Buck/Eddie's brains that the show will likely dismantle this season: what is classified as platonic and what is classified as romantic, and which gender is allowed to be in each category. We'll come back to this when we get to the next scene.

Eddie is very supportive of Buck breaking up with Natalia. He doesn't say it directly to his face, but it's implied that Buck really lost himself when he was with Natalia, hence Eddie's "Welcome back to the land of the living". While Buck did struggle with figuring out his life purpose at the end of season 6, he falsely prescribed that purpose to Natalia. Thankfully, this was rectified here. This also shows significant growth for Buck from his last relationship with Taylor Kelly. Buck was able to identify issues in his relationship quicker and was able to cut the relationship short when he realized it was no longer healthy to maintain for him. I am extremely proud of Buck in this moment, as is Eddie, which is the first of two big moments in this episode where Buck and Eddie really showcase their pride in the other's personal growth. "You were missed" is such a simple yet perfect line for Eddie to give to Buck. To show Buck that Eddie has always seen him, and will always see him, even through personal lows, and will still remain by his side when they come out the other side. I really love this showcase of unconditional love here.

The next time we see Buck and Eddie, the chaperone date has already passed. Eddie and Marisol are seen watching Chris and Penny from behind the wall, but it's highkey awkward to watch and the focus of this scene is really not Eddie/Marisol but rather Chris and Penny and Eddie relaying this info to Buck. I first want to point out that we don't actually get to see Eddie/Marisol's first date, we don't see any subsequential dates, and the first time we DO see her, in an episode meant to be establishing couples, she's so blink-and-you'll-miss-it that I had to try 3 times to get this screenshot because it went by so fast. It's never a good sign when we don't actually get to see the beginnings of a non-established relationship.

Additionally, Eddie/Marisol's relationship is framed WITHIN Eddie recounting the night to BUCK. The important Eddie relationship we're supposed to be paying attention to in this scene is not Eddie/Marisol but Eddie and Buck's. It's not important for us to see Eddie and Marisol hanging out, but it IS important for us to see Eddie TELLING Buck about the night. That isn't insignificant. This means the show is clearly placing far more importance on Eddie/Buck than on Marisol, and for a pointed reason to be revealed hopefully later this season.

This is the only line that Marisol has in the entire episode. This being the one line she has is interesting because it's a callback to Eddie's arc last season ie. "Eddie has no game with women". Christopher makes a pointed comment about it in 6x18. And of course, it's a callback to Performance Anxiety 6x14 where Eddie was being pressured about dating women and 6x17 Love Is In The Air where he once again pressures himself into dating women until he finally settles on Marisol. It's an interesting call back to have, considering this scene could have been considered Eddie successfully dating a woman. And of course this ties into later in this episode where we get the "turning women off" comment, which I'll talk more about later.

Eddie goes on to tell Buck that he didn't really see any difference between Christopher hanging out with his male friends vs hanging out with his female friends. This is drawing attention to two things. The first is a call-back to Buck and Eddie's previous scene where we saw that Buck and Eddie have two different ideas of what constitutes "a date" when it's with a man versus a woman. Buck thinks that an at-home date with Marisol to watch Chris counts as a date, Eddie doesn't. Yet Buck doesn't consider his own at-home "hang-outs" with Eddie and Chris to be a date despite them being far more frequent and more meaningful than what we just saw with Marisol. Eddie also doesn't see it that way. This line is an indicator that both Buck and Eddie have blinders on currently when it comes to their interactions with each other, interactions which very much COULD be considered a date (including the later mentioned "underlying sexual tension") if they had done the same thing with a woman. They're just unable to recognize the truth of it at the moment, and this is clearly demonstrated when Eddie can't tell the difference between Chris having his date with his male friends vs. female. My prediction is that this will become more defined for Eddie by the end of the season or leading into next season.

But it's very interesting that this idea of not being able to recognize the possibility of romance except for the heteronormative options is coming into play now because there's really only one gay way to subvert that.

Which is then doubled down by Buck in the very next scene.

This is blatantly not a true statement. Buck is not only assuming Chris's sexuality, but he's assuming the same would be the case in general, which is not true. Buck knows many queer people, but at the same time, every queer person he knows canonically falls more into the gay-lesbian binary, and not really anywhere in the middle (ie. bi/pan people). It's an oddly heteronormative statement coming from Buck, who is known to be very open-minded and also researches a shit ton? So why are we being shown that Buck has this sort of narrow-mindedness specifically when it comes to the possibility of people being bisexual?

(Spec) Firstly, I think this is to set up for a bisexual Buck arc. It's showing that Buck actually 1.) hasn't ever been with a man before so this is not just a casual bi reveal and 2.) that he's never actually considered it a possibility to have sexual tension with a man before. This is what we in writing call "the character's fundamental misbelief" and it is brought in specifically to be challenged, and I'm near-positive it will be at some point in the season.

Secondly, On the surface, this statement is telling the audience that obviously Christopher would only have tension with his female friends, right? (sarcasm). But what's interesting is that this statement is purposefully gender-neutral. It leaves the real meaning up to the audience to decide. Why? Because this part of the conversation is not really about Christopher. On the surface, yes, but beneath that, this line and the line before it are about Eddie and Buck's relationship with each other. Buck's not out here talking about Christopher having sexual tension with people, and even Eddie recognizes that it's weird to talk about in relation to their child. He's still in the nest for christ's sake! These lines are in relation to Buck and Eddie's friendship and how both of them are blind to the fact that it very much IS possible to have sexual tension with your female AND male friends.

And this is where the gender-neutrality of that phrase gets extra interesting. Because as we've seen before, Buck and (more prominently) Eddie often lack chemistry with their female love interests. It's up for debate, but the general consensus was that most people did not feel any chemistry between Buck/Natalia, and Eddie/Ana or Eddie/Marisol. What's fascinating is that Buck has had chemistry with some of his female love interests, but Eddie hasn't had any since Shannon (and this is not an endorsement of Eddie/Shannon's romantic relationship. I'm not getting into the extreme nuances of that right now.) Some argue Eddie's had chemistry with Felisa or Vanessa, but they aren't the ones Eddie's dating right now, are they? So Eddie, unlike Buck with his female LI's, hasn't really had any sexual tension with Ana or Marisol. The only person that (most) people agree Eddie has had sexual tension with is Buck. And we had a scene with them earlier with Buck watching a half-naked Eddie change too. So in this case, the line might also be a reference to Eddie having chemistry with men, but not really with any of his female LI's. I think the purposeful vagueness here though was a very telling choice on Tim's part.

Additionally, the use of the word "underlying". Underlying implies that the sexual tension isn't overt, but rather is something that lingers unspoken. Under the surface. Subtextual, if you will. Of course, it's possible to have subtextual sexual tension between an M/F pairing. But placing it in the context of this scene, where Buck is being weirdly heteronormative, it feels contradictory. If Buck believes that he (and Chris by proxy) can only have sexual tension with a female friend, why is it something that is hidden under the surface? If anything, due to heteronormativity, the sexual tension between a boy and girl should be plain as day for anyone to see, on the surface, very much textual and with no room for interpretation (ie. "He was a boy, she was a girl, could I make it any more obvious?"). But let's flip this around. With queer pairings and couplings, there's a huge history of their sexual tension and romance only being able to live and breathe in the subtext. This line being spoken between two men that many people for years have pointed out are heavily queer-coded and have a romantically-coded "bro" relationship with each other that so far has only been able to exist in subtext? Tim, you're not sly. I see right through you.

After that, Eddie tells Buck about Christopher seeing 5 girls at the same time. Everyone's shocked and Eddie insinuates that Christopher didn't get this from him. By pointing out that Buck is a reformed playboy (I personally disagree with aspects of this statement but that's neither here nor there), Eddie is implying that Christopher may potentially be getting this trait from Buck. Which is an interesting thing to say to someone if they're not already heavily involved in the process of raising your child. Eddie claims that he's a "nester", which in my mind means someone who is very paternal/maternal, or constantly trying to build the home or the family. ((Sidebar: I googled nesting and apparently it's ALSO a term used in both polyamorous spaces and was later separately coined as a term referring to "where men treat women like they’re in a relationship, but they expect those women to know that it will never lead to real one." I don't interpret this line to mean either of those other definitions, I just think it's interesting that this is what popped up when I googled Nesting)).

Eddie then says he "married the first girl he dated" and Buck instantly volleys back with "think you mean slept with", which is EXTREMELY telling of a few things. First, I want to point out, that I don't believe this is Buck denouncing or disrespecting Shannon's important role in Eddie or Chris's life, but rather recontextualizing it.

We got clarification last season that Eddie fell into his relationship with Shannon almost in the same way that he fell into one with Ana and Marisol. It was heavily implied that Shannon was the pursuer, the one who made their relationship happen. Not Eddie. While Eddie was a little less passive with Ana and Marisol, being the one to ask both of them out, he still exhibits extreme passivity in the furthering of each of these relationships, preferring to "stick it out" rather than actually end it when it's not working. This is the exact same thing he did with Shannon. It's interesting that Buck argues that Eddie married the first girl he slept with rather than the first girl he dated.

Dating someone implies you really genuinely want to form a deep romantic relationship with someone (ie. call back to Buck's line to Maddie "at least when I date someone, I date them"), whereas sleeping with someone does not have to immediately mean wanting to be with them romantically. To me, this implies that while Eddie might've deeply loved Shannon as a friend and eventual mother of his child later and had sexual chemistry with her, the reason why he stayed with her is not because he wanted to continue dating her or being with her because he was IN LOVE with HER but rather because they slept together. And what came about from sleeping with her? A fucking traumatic teen pregnancy.

Both Buck AND Eddie recognize that in this scene (which is huge, especially for Eddie). I'm kinda blown away honestly. It's extremely important for the audience to see that while Eddie did, does and will always love Shannon, it is NOT romantic love, and may have not ever been. Which is FINE. They were literal teenagers for god's sake.

This is once again a recurring theme in Buck and Eddie's story in this episode. Defining what is considered romantic and what is considered platonic AND the possibility of redefining those distinctions years later. And it's interesting that in this case with Shannon, a woman, it's finally being acknowledged that it might not have been as romantic as Eddie may have believed for all these years.

Eddie then asks Buck to be the one to talk to Christopher about his relationship indiscretions. We see Eddie making the active choice to bring Buck deeper into the co-parenting role that's already been established in seasons 2-6. Right after Eddie talks about being a nester, a home-builder, he brings Buck deeper into his family in a parental role. To me, this scene doesn't imply that Eddie can't do it, or that it's out of his wheelhouse, but rather because he feels like Christopher might relate to Buck more about this. But even more so, it shows that Eddie inherently trusts Buck to be the one to talk to Christopher about this, because he's seen how Buck has grown over the years.

Eddie doesn't want Christopher to continue making bad choices in life and he tries to convey this to Buck, but Buck, with his own self-esteem issues, assumes that Eddie doesn't want Christopher to end up like Buck. Which is fascinating because Buck's made it a huge point throughout the series to show that he's grown past his sleeping-around phase (which was never about disrespecting or using women, it was always about Buck's own desire for love and connection that he felt he could only get through sex). And yet with this line, we see that Buck still doesn't realize how far he's come. He still feels like he isn't worth emulating or being someone to look up to. But Eddie does. Eddie sees and loves Buck to his core, and so he points it out to Buck that no, Buck actually didn't become that person, and that Buck is, in fact, worthy of being the one to parent Christopher in this situation. Once again, this is a great moment of showing how these two are able to see past their facades to the truth of each other's issues and provide strength, reassurance, and clarity to each other, as an ideal life partner would be able to do.

Then we get to see this amazing scene of Eddie talking down a panicking woman using his own unique "jello" methods. This coping mechanism tool he walks her through really does sound like something a therapist might teach their patient. Eddie not only is able to admit to having panic attacks but he's able to do it in front of strangers and his team alike with no shame (even a bit of pride at the end). This scene, which could've gotten very awkward very fast, ended up becoming a very sweet, serene moment where we also get to see that love reflected on Buck's face just how proud he is of how far Eddie has come. This episode made a point to show Buck and Eddie recognizing the other's growth and their pride in the other, as well as demonstrate how both are able to be there for the other emotionally in their times of need.

What's interesting is that this is all stuff that we've seen before. Buck and Eddie have been each other's emotional pillars for many years now. This is just a re-establishing episode. We know that this season their relationship is going to be shifting, growing, and showing a new side to it. So I'm intrigued to see how that will manifest given that we have already seen in one episode how Buck and Eddie are each other's closest person. Some might argue that this episode actually frames them to be closer and more emotionally supportive of each other than two of the other canonically romantic couples on the show.

Bathena are shown to be having marital problems in this episode, with Athena worrying she and Bobby might not actually have that much in common outside of the chaos. Madney is shown with pre-martial problems, with Chimney unnecessarily worrying he and Maddie's spark might fizzle out over the years and they might grow to resent each other. I'm not saying either of these relationship problems is really accurate, but it's just interesting to look at in comparison to how Buck and Eddie were framed in this episode, despite not being in a canonical romantic relationship at the moment.

This exchange absolutely took me the fuck out. Because this line did not need to be there. Even for the giggles. It could've even been a line of Buck being sincere and saying that he's proud of Eddie or something. Instead, we get this. "I've never seen a man turn a woman off with such skill". This line connected with the line from Marisol are both callbacks to Eddie's series-long issue with dating women. We get this in conjunction with Buck pointing out that Eddie doesn't really date these women he's in relationships with. He's just with them due to circumstances. Even if the circumstances are of his own making (which could be a symptom of compulsory heterosexuality). Eddie has never once talked about dating women like he's actually attracted to women. I'm so sorry. AND combined with the line where Buck and Eddie actually acknowledge that Eddie wasn't really with Shannon because he wanted to be with her but because of the family they accidentally created. All of this in ONE episode leading up to this line where it's heavily implied that Eddie's skill is his inability to turn women on, and to actually be able to turn them all the way off. And I'm just going to say it, but this line HEAVILY implies queerness. This is the kind of line you'd expect someone to say to a gay man or someone who doesn't actually want the sexual attention of a woman. This, again, in conjunction with Eddie not being able to tell the difference between a date with a woman vs. a man, is all too pointed.

This line alone in a vacuum could maybe not mean queerness, but alongside the whole rest of the episode where beat after beat after beat implies that Eddie has in fact NEVER been in a relationship with a woman 100% of his own active desire for her as a person and not just for what she can provide to his or his son's life?

This points to a very particular direction with Eddie that I'm expecting to see him fight against really hard this season. I would not be surprised if he ends up holding onto Marisol as the last shreds of perceived "normalcy" (ie. heterosexuality) are being threatened. Hopefully, he'll be able to reconcile the truth by the end of the season or going into season 8.

God this is so long and we haven't even gotten to the buddifer scene yet. This part will be a bit more condensed because I'm not really analyzing Chris as a character here or his relationship with Shannon. Maybe I will later.

I'm really loving seeing Christopher become his own person this season. But what really fascinates me here is Chris as a parallel to both Buck and Eddie. Christopher's abandonment trauma is starting to manifest in him through his choices with his love life. The same thing happened with Buck and with Eddie individually. Buck's trauma growing up informed his choices of sleeping around and seeking love from a myriad of individuals who didn't necessarily have his best interest at heart. Eddie's trauma manifested in him being so self-sacrificing that he can't ever choose a relationship for himself, but it always has to be in service of someone else or in pursuit of a perceived "Normal" standard.

In this case with Chris, his trauma is manifesting in a way more similar to Buck's, which is another reason why it's so perfect to see Buck being the one to discuss this with Chris, even though they don't necessarily delve too deep into it. There's no question Buck sees his own issues reflected in Chris. This has been true since 4x08 Breaking Point when Chris runs to Buck's house and confides in Buck his worries about people leaving him. Chris demonstrates a similar issue that Buck and Eddie both hold individually. That being the notion that "it doesn't matter what I do, or how good of a person I am, or how good of a partner I am, I am not worth staying for."

But the difference here is that Eddie and Buck, like the amazing co-parents they are, recognize the problem and take steps to address Christopher's trauma in a way that gives Chris autonomy and isn't condescending or out to make Christopher feel bad about making mistakes. The Buckley parents and the Diaz parents both failed Buck and Eddie in these ways because they blamed their children, never actually took the time to see the underlying issues let alone address them, and made them feel like everything was their fault, even going so far as to actively put their children down over and over and over again. Eddie and Buck get the beautiful chance to break the cycle here with Chris and get to be the parents that they never had.

It was so amazing to watch this episode with Buck and Eddie being supportive partners to each other and supportive parents to Christopher. It was an episode of growth just as much as it was an episode of reintroduction to a new audience. It was also extremely telling of what the future conflicts and themes will likely continue to be for Buck and Eddie for the rest of this season. I'm so excited to see what the rest of this season brings! And thank you from the bottom of my heart, ABC.

anon: Lurien has a cut monologue? I tried to find the dreamer's cut dialogue a while back and barely got a couple of extra lines for Lurien in comparison to monomon who had a paragraph. Also PK offered to sire hornet??? Please tell me where I can find this I'm desperate for more info on the dreamers

Well, Lurien doesn't have too much cut dialogue, but here it is: I found it in the cut content section of the Hollow Knight fandom wiki, which requires a lot of dropdown clicks in order to actually get to it

I'm sure that the cut dialogue for Lurien is exactly the same as what you found when you encountered Monomon's, anon, but it does offer us a lot more insight into his character, showing us that he was extremely protective of the City of Tears, that he considered the Vessel plan to be a dark necessity that weighed on PK, and that he was one of the few bugs who actually met PK in the flesh and knew the truth of his nature. That paints a picture of someone who was at the very core of Hallownest's workings, alongside Monomon, who we know had a hand (tentacle?) in knowing the details about the vessel plan- something that fits with the formal 'sister/brother' titles used by them both, even though Monomon also extends that courtesy to Herrah (who seems indifferent to the other two, lmao).

There's also a developer note relating to Lurien that describes his potential character as 'more detatched than the other Dreamers' and 'taciturn':

More detached than the other dreamers? Maybe ponders how the Hollow Knight (vessel) feels after all this time. Would he make the same choice again? First few dialogues are very taciturn.

Which is something that I think comes across far better in his cut dialogue than just...cutting it out altogether. I get that they wanted him to be detached and mysterious, but what we have in-game is bread crumbs and a floating umbrella rather than a cohesive character, as evidenced by all the shitty fucking takes out there painting him as a 'simp', a 'bootlicker', and a 'creep', none of which really fit the concept of a mysterious, protective bug with ethical concerns about what his god-king was getting up to

Starting with Eve:

He's my Tamarack MC, but I figured since uh. all my art that was a given

He has a strained relationship with Qiu in step 1 but they become besties by step 2 and by step 3, they are like family to each other. If no one got Eve, Eve knows Qiu got them, amen 🙏

He comes out as transmasc by step 2, and by step 3 he gets top surgery and starts taking testosterone and firmly identifies as a butch lesbian

He's from the southern part of Miami, Florida. He's Golden Grove's residential florida man

He practices martial arts religiously, he's a big fan of Goku and Dragonball in general so he wants to be like his idol

His story deviates a bit from the OL2 generic mc story, he did have a dad! Opal and his dad wanted a kid but they both didn't want to get married and since the two of them were best friends, they decided to have a kid together (or well two but we'll talk about that later)

What's important to note from above is that his dad isn't around anymore because his father passed away a few months ago due to a car accident and Eve was hospitalized as a result

So by the time he's at Golden Grove, he's in anger stages of his grief and he doesn't want to be bothered. Which sucks cause hes neighbors with the two loudest kids on the block

Doesn't help he's a ESL speaker (English as a Second Language) and Golden Grove's population is majorly white so he has even harder of a time adjusting to it

He gets into fights in step 1... a Lot. Someone will look at him funny and they'll get punched in the face

He does adjust but he still doesn't like Golden Grove by step 3 but funnily enough, he moves away at the end of step 3 for treatment but moves back in step 4, crazy how that shit works huh

He has two emotional support bunnies; Bulma and Chi-Chi! He gets them in step 2, Qiu and Eve bond over them LMFAO

As for Aaliyah:

She's my Qiu MC, to the shocker of no one. Tamarack is also her best friend <3

Aaliyah is from New Orleans, Louisiana! She's full blooded Haitian and she has family in Haiti

She's also transfem! She passes for cis in step 1 thanks to hormone blockers and some makeup and then starts taking estrogen in step 2 and onwards

Her being black and transfemme is integral to her character and how she navigates around Golden Grove, she doesn't tell anyone she's trans until near the end of step 1. By step 3, the girl gang and Qiu knows shes trans

^^ That's because she had a very negative experience coming out to her community who previously loved her but flipped on her just as fast

So moving to Golden Grove was supposed to be a fresh start for her as herself but by that point she feels like she has to keep up her "cis-sona" lest she gets bullied again

She still gets bullied for other reasons in step 2 though (being a pretty black girl and the one person who has a crush on her is the most popular kid in school... its rough! 😭)

By step 4 though she is proud to call herself trans and will let people know!

She lovessss animals! And the animals love her back! She feeds them all the time and keeps animal food on her for that purpose when she goes to the park to read by herself, she got a flock of crows and stray cats that like to follow her

She has a cat named Kiki!!! Kiki loves everyone except Qiu though, Aaliyah doesnt know that though-

I was actually working on hollowframe Qorvex when I saw your ask, so here's a wip screenshot of where it's at currently! Lot's of background shading and coloring to do still but it's coming along nicely

Anyways sorry about this but I'm gonna hijack this ask to talk about hollowframe for a bit under the read line cause now I'm in a real reminiscent mood lol just bear with me

This hollowframe project really has gotten so much bigger than I thought it ever would when I first started. It really was just an idea for a longer term project to keep myself drawing during my pandemic slump in 2021. It's really hard for me to believe that it's been two and half years since I started lol.

At first they were just gonna be simple like this

and then I kinda just kept adding detail and color and

now it's like

For the longest while I tried to be as style accurate as possible to challenge myself with character design elements and techniques. That provided me such a good wealth of practice and the reception to it was crazy.

Once I had caught up to the most recent frame though I started abandoning full style accuracy as I pushed myself to practice more advanced styles and techniques while waiting in between new frame releases.

It's honestly such a cool feeling being able to trace a lot of my art progression within a single project, as silly as a cross over like this can feel like at times lol. It's so funny how hard it is to explain to people outside of the fandom how important hollowframe has been for me and the development of my other projects, I legit don't know where I'd be at without this thing and that is such a wonderfully absurd but awesome feeling

Anyways sorry again for hijacking your ask! I guess it's just still such a surreal thing to meet people online who are familiar with my work lol. Thank you!! :)

GUYS I FINALLY

FINALLY

FUCKING FINISHED MY FIRST SCREENSHOT RE-DRAW

And it’s shit, BUT. I gave them some different outfits/styles whatever tf. I’m happy(ish) with it.

Some up close:

Because of the type of brush I used, I can’t add a background or else this happens:

(Basically, Angel’s fur color changes, and Husk gains this halo lookin shit)

Desc:

I decided, let’s make these two, even more HuskerDust theme than normal. So I gave them both some of each other’s colors. Angel’s boots, are the same color as Husk’s umbrella, along with his tail and eyebrow markings. Angel also has hearts on his boots now, just like Husk has hearts all of him (palms, eyebrows, etc). Husk now has X’s on his fur (with his tail and eyebrows yk) they both have piercings/jewelry (husk has a pointer finger ring and two ear piercings while Angel has an eyebrow piercing and a bracelet and shoulder band)

Husk’s little eyebrow and palm hearts (hardly visible) are the same color as Angel’s Fishnets(on his legs anyways). Angel’s cropped fishnet shirt, has a heart with an ‘X’ through it. That symbol is the color of Husk’s OG color for his wings and eyebrows (along with it being another heart)

Husk’s Shirt (under his suit jacket) is a very (VERY) light pink for Angel. And his bow also has ‘x’s on it.

And so on

Clothing desc: Angel has a cropped, sleeveless shirt with fishnets underneath. Both in which are pink. A symbol of a hear with an ‘X’ going through it on the front of the shirt. Angel wears a lilac skirt (I decided why tf not) with black under shorts. Has gold fishnets up to knees underneath his heart-shaped boots. Has multiple piercings (hidden: tongue piercing) and bracelets. Also has a choker.

Husk has a crimson/fading suit (which, I just wanted Husk in a suit cause why tf not???), with a (very) light pink undershirt. Printed bow (darker red than OG). And ear piercings.

Not gonna lie, those fuckin signatures took me forever. I was originally gonna go with a cat-scratch like look for husk, but then I thought ‘this bitch was an overlord once, and look! He wears a suit atm’ so I made it foncy~

They both have little faded symbols/initials behind the actual signature (Angel’s is a classic, glitter pen A, while Husk’s is just a heart lmao)

The signatures also have little spins to them. Husk has all the playing card symbols by his name, while Angel has that little under marking, that looks like an arrow, but is just an ‘Angel’ wing on one end, and a star on he other (put together may look like ‘Cupid’s arrow, which works as well, especially for Angel)

And then their color pallets, which are explanatory enough (the four on the top were used for both of them, despite it already being in their color pallets, I just wanted to show it more)

This is the best gift I ever received and so funny and crazy as well becasue when I was young there just WASNT toys or clothing or any merchandise available for Cartoons or Vdoeo Games or what have you. If you wanted to see your favorite character you would have to go to Google Images on your DSi (wi-fi permitting) and look at the same Deviantart drawings over and over

Super Mario and Pokemon plushes were like items of royalty (other than Pikachu. Pikachus were highly respected but nonetheless common. Kind of like cats in real life). They were rare and impossible to find and my brother had some Mario pluishies and we wer elike WOOOWOWHWOWHWO HOW DID YOU EVEN FIND THOSE ?!?!?! Honestly we probbaly just didnt know how to use the internet. But nonetheless that was the first impression of life that i got when it came to video game or cartoon stuff. What you wanted most just simply did not exists

Nopwadays of course it's completely different and I stil find myself reeling. You can go online and customize stickers and clothing EASILY !!!!!!!! You can go to the mall and find a store that sells Waluigi plushies like it's No Big Deal. They propbably have him in 3 different sizes

So when I got into dragon ball I was delighted (and contonue to be delioghted) at how EASY it is to just ... FIND IT ANYWHERE ??? You go into any random store and there's a chance of finding some sweatshirt with goku on it. For no reason. AND I'M ALWAYS THRILLED TO SEE IT !!!!!

And I was disappinted but Not Surpised when I find out that they just dont really make Goten & Trunks merchandise like they do with anyone else. Plenty of Gohan, plenty of Future Trunks, and that's swag. But you're not gonna find little Goten or Trunks (with the exception of those crappy 1999-2000 series figurines of them WHICH I DID ACQUIRE two years ago at my local Goku store and yes I did immediately tear the original packaging asunder. Actually I'm not religious but tearing them open did feel like a holy and careful thing to do and so I felt strongly compelled to get in the shower and thoroughly wash my feet first???? I don't now why. But I did do that)

And when the Superhero movie was announced it was like AIEEEEE New Goten & Trunks designs !!!

But then even a while after the movie came out I was struggling to find screenshots. No official art was even appearing on google images for a while and the movie wasn't on any of my sites, but I did find some yourube videos with them in it. But I wanted better refs of Goten & Trunks and I was just having trouble. But then a while after that they DID start appearing on Google Images and that was enough to MAKE ME HAPPY!!!!!!!

But i wasnt expecting MERCHANIDSE. Like OF COURS ENOT !!! Like DBZ is crazy popualr but you can't find EOZ merch anywhere, OF COURSE I won't find Goten & Trunks mercfh.

But I mean. THEY WANT TO MILK THIS CASH COW FOR AS LONG AS THEY CAN !!!! They put Goten & Trunks in the manga. Merchanise of them started to appear and i was stunned when my attention was directed toward it but it was still few. A month ago I acidentially found a blind bag of DBS:SH bag clips online and Goten & Trunks were there and I was like OOUGH...HAA....HUH !?!? I recovered thoguh and did not buy any.

DESPITE THE GLARING EVIDENCE THOUHG I JUST DIDNT BELEIVE THAT I COULD EVER ACQUIRE A NICE FIGURINE OF GOTEN ????

I Did Not Know this existed and I don't think it has existed for long. Most thoughtful gift. I'M SO THRILLED !!!!

Very funny to receive JUST Goten. It's never JUST Goten. It's a;lways Goten & Trunks. Goten & Gohan. Goten & His GT Girlfriend. It's never JUST Goten. BUT HERE HE IS!!! JUST HIM!!!!!

And he looks Dumb too he looks stupid the shadows on his face make him look ill. He's got shitty doodoo hair. This is so dumb but they are milking this cash cow baby. AND I'M SO GLAD TO HAVE HIM !!

It's COOL becasue it's a unique design for him. That's probaby why theyre putting out DBS:SH Goten & Trunks merchandise. Becasue there's something to put out there.

Goten only had like 2 designs that were unique and interesting. Here's what I mean:

When he's little he has a few differnt outfits that are colorful and interesting but we don't remeber them and they don't stand out becasue he's not in them long. Gohan had some different outfits throughout his childhood too but we don't remeber them for the same reason.

Goten's most recognizable outfit is his gi and he looks pretty much exactly like Goku so no one cares.

In DB Super he's got an outfit that we';ve actually seen him in beforer only now he's wearing it 24/7. This is more noteworrthty but there's still no merch of him (EXCEPT FOR A BAG CLIP THAT I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUHG TO ACQUIRE.. FOREVE RTHNAKFUL...). Ultimately it's not necessarily UNIQUE becasue like yeah his mother dressed him so what. It's nothing we haven't seen before already

His GT appearance is ..... SO... UNNOTEWORTHY. The whole appeal of his character is that he has a phone and a gilrfinred. HE LOOKS LESS VISUALLY INTERESTING THAN THE TOWNIES. It's especially comical when you see him standing amongst the rest of the cast. PROOF

When i saw his scene I had to pause and laugh for a while. HE'S SUCH A NOBODY!!!!! HE LOOKS LIKE A RANDO WHO JUST WALKED IN. Like some store clerk or something

HIS ONLY INTERESTING AND UNIQUE DESIGNS ARE:

HIS INFAMOUS "SON GOTEN" SHIRT, which he wore for ONE EPISODE at EOZ. Noteworthy mostly due to his new height and long hair

HIS DBS:SH OUTFIT. Noteworhty becasue he's FINALLY growing up and his hair is getting long.

... ^ WE DIDNT GET THE LATTER UNTIL THE SUMMER OF 2022. All we had for a long time was his purple man jeans in GT and his SON GOTEN pride shirt in EOZ. And there's NO merch of those, in all of these years.

His outfit in DBS:SH is sort of superb in how it links the tradsitonal clothes he's always worn and the cityboy fits he gravitates towards later. His mother picked that shirt out but you know that he bought those pants at Kohl's

He's just so funny .... This figurine is so funny .. It came with bubble wrap wrapped ONLY around his head like a bag of shame and im honestly gonna put it back on becasaue he is so ugly.

“Is your boyfriend on the same planet as us?” Victoria asked.

Damiano had zoned out during the informal group dinner you were currently attending. Tucked away in the corner of the Japanese restaurant, he sat silently, with the screen of his phone illuminating his face. He was oblivious to any of the conversations taking place around him as his concentration went purely to his device.

He was tired and probably over-stimulated after another jam-packed day in Tokyo. Looking across the table at him put you in the mindset of a carer - all you wanted to do was take him to a bed and bring him a cup of chamomile tea. If you looked at him for too long you would begin to crave cuddles.

“No, he’s still with us… kind of…” You told her. “He’s looking up tattoo studios.”

“Of course he is.” She said. “Does it ever bother you how spontaneous he is with all of that? Do you wish he would chill for a second and give you a vote, or whatever? ‘Cause you’ve gotta see them just as much as he does, imagine if you hated one of the designs…”

“Well that hasn’t been an issue yet.”

“He’s lucky he’s got a girlfriend who likes surprises.” She said. “A control freak with that? But that’s why you two are perfect for each other.”

“At the end of the day, they’re just tattoos and if they make him happy, that’s the only thing that really matters to me.” You said. “Literally my only concern is that he’s gonna run out of skin.”

She laughed, having a sip of her beer. “Tell me you don’t have any tattoos without telling me you don’t have any tattoos…”

“Really, did I just out myself?” You asked.

“Pretty much. It’s so addictive that once you start, you stop caring about shit like running out of bodily real estate, you just want another and another and it’s your new favourite hobby.” She said. “And we should stop talking about this before I start trying to find an artist with availability.”

But that wasn’t the end of your discussing tattoos for the night.

After the restaurant, you and Damiano climbed into the van that was bound for return to the hotel. Other members of the entourage joined you in the vehicle. You settled into the backseat with your boyfriend.

“Did you have fun at dinner?” He asked, placing an arm around your shoulders.

“Yeah, I did. I’d ask you the same, but it looked like you were getting into your research again.”

He showed you a sheepish smile, knowing exactly what you were referring to. “I couldn’t help myself, I started looking at flash sheets.” He readjusted in his seat, pulling his phone out of his pocket. “Do you wanna see what I found?”

“Sure.”

He had made some wiggle-room in his schedule for this work trip, finding enough free time to get a new tattoo. He had checked with you first, ensuring you didn’t mind losing out on an hour or two of other activities. You had told him it was fine, not wanting to hold him back from any of his experience of this country.

“There’s kinda a theme, which wasn’t on purpose. I just took screenshots of whatever caught my eye, but…” He said.

The theme was dragons, with the majority of the designs that you swiped through featuring the mythical beasts. There was some variety in the selection he had presented you with, and you looked at a couple of different flower designs, along with a sword, one drawing of a cat, another of a moth, and a rat.

“I know that it’s clichéd to get a dragon tattoo while in Japan. But they’ve just been on my mind lately…” He said.

You smiled as you looked at him. “Oh yeah, you’ve just been thinking about dragons?”

You were feeling proud of yourself after successfully getting him to listen to the audiobook of one of your favourite books - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

This hadn’t been an easy undertaking. You had broken his lifelong streak of never reading a book if he had already seen a movie adaptation. The phrase ‘the book is so much better than the movie’ had never meant anything to him.

He had watched the David Fincher movie with you during an at-home movie night in the early stages of your relationship. It was your pick. You had gotten into the series following the recommendation of your older sister, devouring the three books in high school in an effort to catch up to Petra’s coolness.

You had convinced him that it would be the perfect book to listen to on the flight to Japan and he had thoroughly enjoyed it. He wanted to discuss the major plot points with you. It was decided that he would listen to The Girl Who Played with Fire on the way home, with his eagerness increasing when you had told him it was your favourite of the trilogy.

His arm around your shoulders tightened a little. “I guess they remind me of someone.”

You leaned in closer, closing the distance between the two of you with a kiss. You had forgotten about everyone else in the van, feeling like the only woman in the world as you learned of your boyfriend’s plans to wear a permanent tribute to you. He would have a physical representation of how much he thought of you, your interests and everything that you were.

“Your appointment is booked in?” You asked.

“Yep, Gianna got it confirmed for me.” He said of one of the travelling assistants. “You didn’t tell me which you like best.”

“I think all of the designs are cool…”

He gave you a gentle shake. “Babygirl…”

“Is that the wrong answer?” You asked.

You spent the rest of the drive back to the hotel looking through his selection again. But this time, he told you his favourite features of each dragon and you contributed your opinion.

By the time that you left the van, you had helped him narrow it down to the best two dragons. Hand-in-hand, you made your way to your suite, bidding the others goodnight.

He joined you in front of the bathroom mirror as you wiped away the day’s makeup. “Have you decided what you’re gonna do while I’m at the appointment? Are you gonna go sight-seeing with the others, or will you just stay here and rest up? Or, you could always come with me and watch me squirm while I let my mum down…”

You deposited the dirty face wipe into the trash can. “Well the whole point of this trip was to spend as much time as possible with you…” You turned to face him, draping your arms around his neck. “So I’m gonna make you and your new dragon the top sight to see on my list. You can squeeze my hand through the pain.”

“I’m not worried about the pain.” He said. “But I’ll take any excuse to hold your hand.” You kissed him and he squeezed your body to him. “Come on, strip down, it’s bedtime.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

Under the covers, you cuddled up to him, sharing a few lingering kisses.

“While we’re at the studio, we could check how much time my artist has and if there’s an option, you could get a tattoo as well.” He said, making you laugh out loud.

The relentless buzzing of the tattoo machines didn’t intimidate or otherwise make you uncomfortable. Dating Damiano meant that this was a noise you were somewhat familiar with.

It didn’t distract you as you flipped through something of a catalogue in the waiting room. As he filled out the consent form, you looked at the many designs compiled into a folder. You looked across the drawings of snakes, stars, anchors and butterflies (and there were plenty of dragons to be spotted, as well).

“Getting any ideas?” He asked as you lingered on a page.

“Oh, come on…” You rolled your eyes.

“Are you really thinking that you’ll have this virgin-skin forever?” He asked, referring to your untattooed body. “I thought you were interested in getting at least one.”

“Yeah, eventually.” You said.

He twisted his body around in his chair so that he could face you. “I don’t know what perfect moment you’re waiting for, but I think this is a great occasion for it. You can get a tattoo to remind you of our first trip to Japan together.”

You forgot about the open book in your lap as you smiled at him. “Our first? What, like, there’s gonna be more?”

“Most definitely, but not while I’m doing the whole Måneskin thing. We’re gonna come strictly for a vacation, just you and me.” He said. “This would be a pretty perfect place for a honeymoon.”

Your eyes grew wide and you were speechless for a moment. He was thinking ahead to a wedding and honeymoon with you?

For a long time, you had viewed you and Damiano as a forever kind of relationship. But to so easily gain this reassurance that he was on the same page as you was worth its weight in gold. You couldn’t help but smile a bit wider at him.

“Yeah, we should come back.” You said.

“So, what’s on this page?” He asked, indicating to how your pointer finger was wedged between two pages, placed there as a makeshift bookmark.

You flipped back to the page of drawings and circled a dragon with your finger. “I like this little guy. I know that you’ve got your design all set and I love your dragon, it’s gonna look amazing. But this caught my eye.” It was the outline of a dragon mid-flight, its wings outstretched on either side of its serpent-like body.

“Get it tattooed.” He said simply. “They said they’ve got time.”

“Damiano…”

He innocently showed you the palms of his hands. “It’s up to you. But let me ask you this- what do you think your high school-self would think of this, would think of you getting a tattoo just like your favourite fictional character of all-time?”

You didn’t roll your eyes at him this time. “She would love it. She would be so excited and think it was the most kick-ass thing ever.”

“Interesting.” He said.

“You’re a terrible influence on me.” You said as he smirked.

“Are you saying that my influence is working?” He asked, eagerly leaning forward.

“I’m saying that you should get me one of those forms before I can talk myself out of this decision.”

He grabbed your face and pulled you in for a kiss. Between your own adrenaline and his enthusiasm, you were filled with a rush that carried you above any worries. Your sense of consequences and reality was dulled in the face of this excitement.

“I’m so proud of you.” He said.

He set everything up - organising that your tattoo would happen first, taking care of the payment and communicating to the artist what you wanted.

As you filled out your own consent form, the sounds of the machines grew far more noticeable. The buzzing became intimidating as you wondered what the Hell you were walking into.

“You’ll hold my hand, right?” You asked as he returned to the chair next to yours.

He grabbed your hand with both of his. “Of course I will. But it’s like anything else in life, it seems way scarier than it actually is.”

“I’m not scared.” You defended, trying not to squirm in your seat. “It’s just a bit daunting.”

“Right, but I know that you can take it.” He said. Quickly, he glanced around to see how far everyone else was from the two of you. When he turned back to you, it was to look deeply into your eyes. “Do you wanna know how I know?”

“How?”

He licked his lips. “Because my baby always does exceptionally well at pain-play.”

Your cheeks turned bright pink. “Dami…”

“It’s true.” He said quietly.

“But this is totally different.” You said, also keeping your voice low.

“Alright.” He said. “But you might find that you like how this feels and that can lead us to so much more.”

Exhilaration still filled your body as you continued to ride the highs of pride and relief.

The tattoo parlour was hours behind you, but you hadn’t stopped buzzing from the excitement of your impulsive change of mind. You still felt incredible as you and Damiano showered, rinsing clean the fresh tattoos. His design was huge, spanning the entire side of his torso. Your dragon was only about five inches long and easy to hide on the side of your hip.

It was a new part of you and you were absolutely thrilled to have it, the synchronisation with your boyfriend only adding to your infatuation.

His dragon fit in perfectly with his other tattoos. Even though you had watched the whole thing being applied to his skin, you couldn’t help but admire it further. You enjoyed letting your eyes roam the curves of the beast’s body. You had to admit that your boyfriend’s sex appeal was off the charts at the moment.

“How does it feel?” He asked.

“It’s tender, but it’s okay.”

“It might swell a bit overnight, but that’s all normal.” He said.

“How about yours?”

“It’s sore, it’s not exactly comfortable right now.” He said.

“My poor Daddy.” You cooed, tracing the line of his jaw with your fingertips. “Maybe I should distract you?”

He showed you a small smile as you moved in closer. He lowered his arm, done with rinsing his tattoo for the moment. You used your fingers under his chin to guide him in, until he was close enough to kiss.

Loosely, he placed an arm around your waist as the two of you kissed under the consistent stream of water. You felt his body reacting to yours as you teased his mouth open with your tongue. Wanting more, you wrapped your arm around his shoulders. You were paying no attention to the water slipping down your back, instead focusing on how his chest was pressed to yours - enjoying the closeness more with each passing second.

You were licking your lips as he gently pulled back so that he could speak. “We should get out of this shower.”

You had no opposition to this decision. You pushed your damp hair away from your face as he turned the water off. You stepped out of the shower first, but you didn’t get much further than this. You smiled and turned to your side in front of the vanity.

“Ooh, I like this mirror, I can see my tattoo in it.” You said, eagerly giving the design another look over.

tumblr kept eating my response to this ask so I'm making a separate post to see if that solves the problem!!

I recommend by starting with the technical aspects of perspective and environments! which does not sound fun. and I might even go so far as to say it is not fun at all. But!! It is important!! Once you get the hang of drawing things in perspective with Math™, you can start doing all this free-handed! So if you feel up to some extra art homework, get yourself a sheet of paper and a ruler >:)

There's two kinds of perspective that I can tell you about, one-point perspective and two-point perspective. I'll go with one-point cause it's easier to explain haha

Below I've provided a picture of some of my own drawing homework from a class I took a few years back!! Annotated for clarity lol

So here we've got your Horizon Line (HL) , your Measuring Line (ML), your Central Vanishing Point (CVP), your Vanishing Point Left (VPL), and your Vanishing Point Right (VPR)!

Your HL determines where your horizon is in your drawing, which in most cases will be about halfway up your page! You can adjust this to fit your needs though, depending on where you want your point of view to be :)

The CVP is where your HL and ML intersect! The VPL and VPR are the "edges of your canvas" as it were—anything past these points start to get distorted, perspective-wise.

Your ML is the mvp of Math Perspective Drawing, and you're gonna want a ruler/measuring stick for it! The ML is in the center of your paper. Make some marks at regular intervals (in my drawing here they are all 1 inch apart, but they can be larger or smaller on yours!) up and down your ML. Then, using the same measurement, make marks along the HL. At the bottom of your page, leaving a bit of room below, make those same marks (aligned with the ones on the HL, so that if you connected them, they would make straight vertical lines).

Next step is starting The Grid™

From each mark made on the bottom of your page, draw connecting lines to the CVP (shown in red below)

Now, make a line from the bottom right corner of your "canvas" to the VPL (shown below in purple). Where the purple line intersects with the red lines of our half-formed grid is what determines where our horizontal lines of The Grid™ are located (indicated by light blue x's)!

So now we have a grid!! Woo!! Things have started to get a little messy so I'm removing my homework from the background. goodbye homework o7

This grid is what enables us to start drawing in perspective! If you wanna skip all the set up feel free to just. Screenshot what I've got here and use that for drawing on lol

Now we can draw BOXES. cubes, even!! And by learning how to translate other shapes onto the faces of these boxes, you can learn how to draw other things in perspective, like cylinders (seen on the left in pink). There are specific methods for drawing other volumes in perspective, but this post is long enough as is without me going into it haha

Using this knowledge, you can make all sorts of backgrounds!! Here's a super simple example (plus kitty, of course)

Once you've practiced using perspective, here's a few other miscellaneous tips!

Think about the location you're drawing. What would you find there? Is it a forest, a city, a field? Should there be trees? Boulders? Buildings?

Practice drawing different locations from life (or from photos). I cannot overstate how much this helps lol

Make some objects to distinguish Foreground, Midground, and Background. This is where perspective helps you! Once you can clearly distinguish between these three, your backgrounds start to feel deeper, if that makes sense?

Think about ways to make the ground uneven. Dips or hills in the landscape, small ridges/ledges, whatever fits for the location! Even in places with flat ground like an urban landscape, try to distinguish different levels in the ground, like from the sidewalk to the road. A lot of times, it makes the background more interesting to look at!

Knightfall and Ozlem

Now, I am neither first nor last to compare these two screenshots. So for the sake of everyone's time, I am not gonna turn into Pointing Soyjak meme and instead explain my thoughts.

There is certainly plenty of Ozlem imagery in Jaune's and Cinder's encounters. So much to the point where it goes beyond reasonable coincidence.

My question is what does it mean?

Since most imagery pertains to hostile phase of Ozma's and Salem's relationship, reasonable guess would be that Jaune's and Cinder's relationship simply represents that. They are just Ozma's and Salem's enmity incarnate and nothing beyond that.

Here are some of my counterarguments.

First is, they don't capture the essence of Salem's and Ozma's relationship. They are at no point friends, lovers or even acquaintances. There is no growing rift between the characters because all they know is rift.

Second, They already did straightforward Ozlem relationship in the show, it's Tauradonna. Not only did it have similar imagery as the ones above (Adam looming above lying Blake after disarming her, Adam is not Grimm or Grimmified but does wear Grimm mask, Adam has black and red color scheme), they follow Ozlem relationship trajectory. They go from partners to bitter enemies over their ideological differences.

Conclusion to their relationship is moving on. Blake finds Yang, Adam remains bitter and ends up dead as a consequence of his actions. That could have been solution to Ozlem as well, if Salem moved on, lot of tragedy would have been prevented. I don't think it's a coincidence that so far the only character to confront Salem was Yang telling her there is no fairy tale ending.

I can draw a conclusion from Tauradonna, but what would be conclusion from Jaune's and Cinder's relationship as it is? Is it for Jaune to stop obsessing over Cinder? I guess, but him obsessing over her was catalyst that ended up unlocking his Semblance. She also kind of keeps coming back to ruin his day, so clearly that didn't help. Is it for Jaune to kill her? But what does that accomplish? What's the point of paralleling it to relationship that cannot be resolved that way since Salem is immortal?

This brings me to Reverse Ozlem theory. I don't know exactly who started this, but I saw it most prominently on onewomancitadel blog. Gist of the theory is that Jaune and Cinder are Ozma and Salem but their relationship is in reverse.

Interestingly enough, images used above come from first real encounter between Jaune and Cinder and last encounter between Ozma and Salem at that point of the story. Jaune and Cinder being strangers during their first encounter makes sense with the theory since it represents rift between Ozma and Salem, who are metaphorically strangers to each other during their last encounter

Naturally, it cannot parallel next event in reverse timeline, Ozma and Salem being married, for obvious reasons. But it gets interesting again when you get to the next two events of reverse timeline. First is Ozma and Salem recognizing each other after so much time has passed. That can be paralleled to Jaune recognizing Cinder by her glass shards and immediately coming to fight her. Second event is Ozma's death, which neatly fits Jaune falling to Ever After and being presumed dead by everyone. On top of that, just like Ozma's appearance changed between his reincarnations, Jaune physically and mentally changed during his stay in Ever After becoming Rusted Knight.

While it does follow reverse timeline somewhat well, does it have a point? I'd say yes, it gives another potential resolution to Ozlem, reconciliation. Reverse Ozlem theory taken to its logical conclusion would be enemies to lovers relationship between Jaune and Cinder. If two characters that up to that point only hated each other can make amends with each other, what's stopping two characters who were soulmates from doing the same thing?

dmd ftr ep 5 shenanigans: surprise, bitch. i bet you thought you'd seen the last of me

when this episode was nearing the end, it felt bittersweet as i got attached to watching these boys weekly and upcoming series will probably gonna take forever to come out (i am sure they will keep on being active by doing dances on tiktok and selling products on lives etc but i find those contents very tedious, i like my actors acting more). i was wishing for this not to be the end and then, to my surprise, BAMMMM a preview for another episode started playing!!!! but then it was still bittersweet bc it was revealed that they will be singing and dancing throughout the whole episode...

like many other BL fans, there is nothing that turns me off faster than BL boys singing. personally, more than the boys' voices, its the songs themselves i find unbearable to listen to. to my dismay, Thai BL industry loves generic pop and slow ballads, two genres i cant stand listening to. anyhow, i enjoyed the fuck out of My School President, songs and all, so i am open to surprises!!! in fact i am begging to be proven wrong!! and i am glad that they seem to be choosing the winners based on their skills, not by vote or smth else!!!

now back to the episode::::

How Well Do You Know Your Bro challenge was kinda boring because questions were not that riveting but i thoroughly enjoyed Thomas being put down about not getting to play w Kong. i will comeback to that Tee & Kong situation soon.

finally KengNamping won and they got to have some lil old✨💫💞The Special Friendship Time💕💫 ✨. is this what we are calling having a heart to heart on a pseudo-date with your potential work partner nowadays???? during their Special Friendship Time, i was busy taking hundred of screenshots of Namping because he looked so damn good in his fit!!!!!!!!!

pink lipgloss, Celine shades, rainbow mesh sweater, bracelets, Adidas Samba OGs.... cmonnnn

it was sooooo sweet to see them openly talk about their lives and dreams. they had such a progress across these 5 episodes!!! they were finally open about how they want to work together but also things they need to better in order to do so. i cant help but just love their blushing and awkward demeanor!!! it somehow works in their favour.

so funny how keng is admittedly a hard to crack introvert but sometimes his awkward bluntness somehow leads to UNBEARABLY cute moments. like i was climbing up the wall when they were having their final discussion on the bench and keng was being like "who else would i be talking" OR "can we get this over with" while looking Namping in the eye LMAOOO and Namping cant help but just giggle... just some yummy novice fanservice <3

back at the house, Thomas getting jealous over TeeTee & Kong having a talk was funny to me because the it was kinda one of the most obviously produced/edited scenes of this show. i am not going to blame them, maybe they were worried about the show being too conflict free. honestly, i did actually expect Tee to ask Kong to be his partner because nothing gets past me just like Thomas::

we know in all boys sent postcards to each other episode 1 but the show didnt reveal who sent which. well actually, Domundi X account shared a picture of the postcards and (if you have too much free time like me) you can pair the cards w info given by boys themselves in that episode;

another brilliant investigative work i've done in collabration w Paint. also peep Namping's cute duck drawing. honestly what this man cant do???

so hey, Tee sent his postcard to Kong!!! so while folks were on social media making fun of Thomas being overly possessive, my dude was actually onto something!!! his radar was going off and he had to settle the matter!!! i get him, he is like "i''m already an established actor and have a fanbase, just let me get my man so we can maximize our joint slay and leave" and he is so right.........

since the first episode, everyone was tickled by how this show is working like a dating show, me included. but after seeing this comment and similar ones made me think further:

if you think about it, they kinda WILL date??? not on some delulu shit, think about it: they will be shipped, will do fanservice & skinship, spend most of their time together, travel together, co-habit if its required, not just work together but also will be required to take care and trust and depend on each other, FOR at least a couple years if it works out. they will be stimulating "dating", even out of a tv series. being branded pair is a long term job that requires a lot of trust and compatibility. they are also rookies in the industry, so of course they are taking it seriously and discussing their future like choosing a romantic partner.

so, while i felt really sad for Latte as he seemed really worried while trying to look chill about everything, i am glad TeeTee and First chose to not rushing into a pair just to win the show and were honest about still needing time to hone their craft and building chemistry. and i'm not opposed to TleFirst but i still want to see LatteFirst in LUAT as the side couple. i enjoyed them in the pilot trailer and think their roles is going to fit them well. i also dont want to see an actor lose a job for a ship, cmon...

Gems broke my little heart again ahhhh. TBH, Tle clocked his tea when he said Gems should be more confident in himself. its not easy to do so in front of an audience and i'm sure the industry feels like horse race but i hope Gems will be more sure of his abilities in the future and finally have his moment.

on a bigger twist, KengNamping & ThomasKong were the finalist couples!!!

honestly, i have NO IDEA which couple i want to see win. mostly because both pairings give off very different vibes to me. for me, my choice would depend on the plot of this supposed new series, but i dont even know what it is even about.

i was thinking what kind of series i would like to see them in. when i think of ThomasKong, i can see them pulling off a fun and youthful series like My School President, Kieta Hatsukoi or I Will Knock You. w KengNamping, they would look good in a period series like I Feel You Linger in the Air or To Sir, With Love, even though Domundi has already LUAT (which will hopefully come out in this century). i just want to see them in something angsty but also incredibly romantic. should the unimaginable occur and someone from Mandee Works is reading this, feel free to steal ideas!

i am excited for next week, i will be glad no matter the outcome. cant wait to see the crazy stage putfits!!!!

On Flags

A few days ago, I had to block a terf in the notes of a post, and occasionally I grab dumb terf posts for r/insanepeoplefacebook (which allows tumblr screenshots) so I decided to glance around for some free reddit karma. One of the posts I found was something about flags that was... so stupid. To prove I’m not making up a strawman, heres the post.

The argument here is that the genderqueer and nonbinary flags are appropriated, even if unintentionally. While she doesn’t outright accuse the creators of flag theft, the tone of the post is rather accusatory. Like most terf takes, this is moronic, and I’m gonna

First of all, the GQ flag. I decided to take this terf’s word for it and googled “purple white and green flag”, and I got the suffragette flag on the 5th result. However, I ALSO googled the creator’s response to accusations of theft, and noticed that the terf put something in quotations that was not a direct quote. That may sound like nitpicking, but I feel like putting something in quotation marks when it isn’t a direct quote is dishonest. The actual direct quote reads as follows;

Two points of interest: “first design” and that Marilyn didn’t find the flag. The terf in the post speaks about Marilyn’s design like it was made within minutes and poorly thought out. Upon doing my own research, I found out that Marilyn had started working on this flag in June of 2010. The initial design looked like this, aka nothing like the suffragette flag.

So why was it changed? Well, I can’t answer that for certain. But as an art student, I can see one issue: The letters. My design class had a unit on vexillology, aka flag design. My teacher stressed that one of the cardinal sins of flag design was using lettering on flags. While not all good flags strictly adhere to common flag design principles (the Welsh flag violates the “simple enough for a child to draw” rule and it fuckin rocks), maybe Marilyn, who was working towards a Digital Arts degree at the time they were designing the flag, might have wanted to simplify it. The second design for the flag looks like the final version with the white and green reversed.

Okay, so clearly the terf either didn’t do enough research for the post where she accused someone else for not doing enough research, as Marilyn’s response is easy to find here on tumblr, or she wanted to make a petty jab at a trans person’s design skills. But how come Marilyn couldn’t find the suffragette flag when I found it in seconds? Well, Marilyn was researching this in 2010-2011. While google doesn’t let you put custom ranges on images specifically, the general results can be searched by a custom time range. So I checked everything from January 1st,1908 to May 31st, 2010. Here is what I found, and no, the suffragette flag was not on the Wikipedia page at all.

The first mention of the suffragette flag doesn’t show up until page 4 of the results. And then I got an idea. I searched for things up until June 1, 2010. Then June 2, 2010. Then June 3rd, and so on. Up until June 10, the results looked the same.

Then on June 11th, the suffragette flag suddenly showed up in the image results, and the page with the image source was bumped up to page three. Google's algorithm tends to show popular pages first. So why was this page suddenly getting enough hits to boost it higher in the results than links from the Wall Street Journal, Encyclopedia Britannica, liturgical (Church) calendars, and NASCAR, when the first mention of the suffragette flag prior to this had been at least three results under the aforementioned other pages and the website on the third page was brand new?

Well, I did a bit of digging on the wayback machine and found that Roxie posted the first design for the genderqueer pride flag on June 7th. After this point, Marilyn was likely no longer researching colors as they’d already been decided, and was taking suggestions for the flag up until the final design was uploaded in June 2011. The first time anybody actually decided to point out the similarity to Marilyn was in February 2012. My searches found that the flag had been mostly forgotten until June 2010. Now, maybe in the UK it was still a major symbol in 2010. However, google results differ based on your location. Marilyn and I both live in the US, so it’s not that surprising it took us longer to find results mentioning the suffragette flag. Even when I searched the same dates with a vpn changing my location to the UK though, there was no image result until the 10th and the first site talking about it was on the second page. Until the original genderqueer flag was posted, nobody seemed to care about the old suffragette flag. For fucks sake, it took someone a year to notice the similarity and find it important enough to message Roxie about it. Now for the nonbinary flag. While the terf correctly named Kyle Rowan as the creator of the flag, she neglected to mention that there was a call for someone to create a design for folks who didn’t feel like the genderqueer flag represented them, and several designs were submitted. While the initial call for submissions came from a blog which no longer exists and was never archived, Rowan’s posts on the matter are archived and used as sources on the page for the flag on Nonbinary Wiki, which is the 5th result when you search “where was the nonbinary flag first posted”. This one is even more of a reach. Assuming that Rowan also googled the color combination to avoid using one that was already common, they would have included black in the search. When you search for “yellow white purple black flag”, you will not find anything about suffragette flags. Mostly because the American suffragette flag is gold, white, and purple, without a black stripe. Even the quote the terf used to explain the meanings calls the color on the suffragette flag gold. The nonbinary flag has a yellow stripe. Yellow and gold are different colors.

Rowan was kind enough to provide exact hex codes for the flag on their blog. Obviously Alice Paul had no way to do this, so I eyedropped an image of the flag. Here’s a comparison.

On the left is the gold on Alice Paul’s flag, on the right is the yellow from Kyle Rowan’s. Pretty obvious they aren’t the same, unless you’re colorblind. The suffragette flag also usually has stars, which the nonbinary flag lacks. Also, in the post, the terf mentions that Alice Paul changed the green to gold as a homage to Susan B. Anthony. Anthony was known to exclude Black women from her activism. So that’s a bit of uncomfortable symbolism. Groundbreaking.

Anyway, do the flags look kinda similar? Yeah, I’m not denying that. But why are Roxie and Rowan responsible for flags not being used since the suffrage movement? By 2010, they both faded into relative obscurity. idk this stupid post made me mad so i went digging.
