Finality.
It had been many years since she last took the time to visit the Chisaka manor. Ever since then, things had… changed, significantly so.
She had grown. At first, the prospect of growth was not one she was very fond of: abandoning the person she was to become someone else, in a way, felt like a betrayal to those she had lost. The promise to stay steadfast to who she was at the end of her killing game felt like a lie, when she thought of becoming someone else, learning, changing. As she matured, however… it seemed like the best way to honor those who passed, besides being something completely natural.
Megumi and her had taken to producing dolls together, in a joint effort. It wasn’t at the same scale she was used to when growing up, and… it was refreshing. It felt more intimate, cozy, like making a gift to a friend rather than making a prototype to be replicated into an assembly line. She had to teach herself how to adjust to more relaxed guidelines, to not adhere to nigh impossible standards and deadlines. …She was healthier, both in mind and body. She truly understood how much her early years of working herself to the bone wore her down, now that she could look back at it from a different perspective.
She hadn’t talked to many people in years. Many of the people that she had considered friends, at least in passing, ended up losing contact with her over time. Even close confidants were not safe from that; she could count on her fingers the people she still spoke to in a regular basis. Some were people she expected, like her former classmates and Megumi, while others were unexpected surprises. She still had her cat, growing comfortably into old age, having to be fed a little paste instead of the usual cat food at this point in time. Hachirou joked that the cat was immortal; she sure hoped that was the case, but she would be happy all the same. What mattered were the memories she had made along the way, she reasoned. Even if the people involved wouldn’t last forever, those memories would.
She did find herself still struggling with her health to some degree—chronic illness isn’t something one can just brush off, after all. Still, she wasn’t that bothered by it anymore. It didn’t make her any less competent than others, and it didn’t make her weak. In fact, she had never felt stronger. She had people she could rely on, she had escaped the shadows of her family, and she could confidently stand on her own two feet, doing what made her happy. What else could she ask for?
…right.
When she was younger, she did have… a dream of sorts. She never had a great mother, and her experience with mother figures never lasted. But all the same… she did desire motherhood.
She held a tiny, soft hand in hers. When she looked down, she was met with round, curious brown eyes and a toothy grin. …She couldn’t have a biological child, as much as that would have made her happy. Still, she couldn’t imagine herself happier than she was with little Alexander. This would be his first time visiting his grandfather and the triplets, who had been running the Chisaka Corporation ever since she left. They had decided managing everything as a team would be more beneficial, and well, she couldn’t deny the effects.
On the other side of Alexander’s… well, was her partner. It had taken a long time, but it felt right all the same to have stayed this long with them. Alexander was more than happy with both his parents, and she thought herself quite lucky to have this close family.
Family.
The word felt warm, comforting, instead of cool and detached. It felt like home. …She smiled, messing her son’s hair one last time before reaching for the doorbell at the gates.
After a long time, Airi Chisaka was happy.

Day 9: Deep Waters
Kazuya sat at his work desk, humming away. His emerald green eyes scanning the desk.. Overlooking the doll he was working on. He considered it his best work by far.  It was lifelike, but not to an uncanny degree. It seemed perfect, but there were still a few small flaws here and there.. He’d have to fix those up before the due date.
He stood up, taking out a small journal from his pocket and flipping through it.. It was only a few fragments of the original, but it was quite enough to make sure he was completing the process..
“Dammit this was her speciality, not mine.. I made the damn things..” He grumbled as he started to pace around the room. The click of his heels making a eerie echo through the room. The windows were covered up, and it was only lit by candlelight.
He stopped, and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Dammit.. This has to be perfect.. Yet I can’t..” He shook his head and flipped his hand away. He then grabbed at the key around his neck, grunting. “I’ll just have to try my best I suppose.. Just like you, never one to do things by the book..”
Kazuya went back to his workstation, and gently moved the blonde hair of the doll away from it’s face. “The Ultimate Dollmaker..” Kazuya muttered as he pulled open a drawer, and took out a few pieces of sewing supplies. Alongside a few vials of strange substances.
“Let’s see if I have earned that title..” He started about his work. First, fixing up the small imperfects he had left behind in his haste. Starting with small cuts and misshapen spots on the face. Then setting to work on fixing the larger ones. There was a tear on the side of the abdomen, which took some time sewing back together.
As he silently finished the stitching, he moved to the bottles. He picked one up, and uncorked it.. A viciously foul smell flowing from the bottle. Kazuya hurled himself back, covering his nose to keep the stench out.
Yet they continued onwards. Staying as far back as possible Kazuya dabbed a piece of cloth into the bottle, and started to gently brush it against the body of the doll. The doll’s ‘skin’ gained a soft texture.. Shining just a small bit when the light reflected against it. Kazuya was quick to recork the bottle, and place it away once he finished. Kazuya sighed as he went for the next one.. He had to be careful, his supply was running low.. He would have to wait to get more.
This bottle had a glass cork.. The elegant and clear glass vial revealed a soft crimson water inside of it. Kazuya gently opening it up, and placed a hand underneath the doll’s head. He tilted it up gently, and placed the bottle to it’s open lips. He only used a few drops, but even that was almost all of the substance.. Only a few more attempts left.
Kazuya gently sat the doll back down, and watched. Sitting back down in his seat, Kazuya watched the doll… waiting. The clock ticking by as he waited. Waiting.. As he waited his memories started to flow.. Thinking back on one night.
—---------------
Kazuya remembered vividly how they reacted when the news had arrived. The soul crushing despair he had felt. They had told him that she had been shot.. And when they tried to find her, they couldn’t find any remnants of her body. Just a pool of blood, and the tattered journal. Almost all of it’s contents were missing.
Yet a few pages remained. Kazuya was staring down at them.. They were holding notes on their research. Tears were staining the errant pages. He gasped and collapsed onto the floor. She was gone. How could she be gone? There was so much left undone.. Their project wasn’t even half finished.. They were going to bring her back! Now she’s gone.. They’re BOTH gone..
Everything he had worked towards for years was now in shambles. He couldn’t understand why the world could be so cruel. Is this what everyone wanted? To feel this soul crushing despair? To be overwhelmed by such a horrid feeling constantly?
“...no…” Kazuya muttered, shakily standing up. They looked over at their work desk.. His own notes were thrown across it. He gazed back down at the few remaining pages in his hand.. It was then he decided to make a change..
The overwhelming despair wouldn’t hurt anyone else.. He’d find a way to destroy it. Destroy despair utterly, and have only hope.. And happiness. No matter the cost.
No matter what, he would find it.
—---------------
Kazuya snapped back to the present. Surprised to have relived that memory.. Why now? His gaze fell to his pocket, and he drew out the journal.. He opened it up, staring at the pages. Not his handwriting.. They were the pages of the journal she had cherished. Only fragments and pieces of the original.. But enough.
“..We’ll be back together soon..” Kazuya sighed, and slumped in his chair. He placed the journal on the desk near the doll, and wrapped his hand around the key. A small memento.. Useless now. But it’s emotional value was still enough.
A key to an old memory.. One locked away forever.
Kazuya’s gaze turned back to the doll.. And he sat upright upon seeing one of it’s fingers twitch. He immediately stood up from his chair, and looked closely at their face..
…And the doll opened it’s lapis lazuli colored eyes.

OC Incubators: TTRPG Design for Making Cool Little Guys
I've been thinking a lot about why some people like to play Certain Games and how that intersects with action figure style play and the desire to make your own little blorbos.
What is it about Certain Games (which will not be named so I don't go down a rabbit-hole of breaking apart that game's design lmao) that really gets people's sitting down and just making a whole bunch of cool OCs? You know, your zany wizards, sexy demony bards, and all of that.
So, I've talked a lot about this with some people (shoutout to @temporalhiccup), and I'm not the only person to be thinking on similar wavelengths (check out this fun read by @sprintingowl), and in those discussions and in that reading, I've put together a few what I think are Key Ingredients for making ttrpg that is also an OC incubator. At least, in the sense of how I would want to do it.
So first, what is an OC Incubator? My definition is basically any sort of semi-sandbox/open ended game where you make your own cool character and then go do cool things. Along the way of doing those cool things, you come up with cool stories and have your OC evolve in even more cool ways. Cool, yeah?
Here are the key ingredients I've identified for the incubator stew (store bought is fine);
Character Options
Character Potential
An Inviting Sandbox
So let's break these down a bit more below;
Character Options
Character options is the most straightforward of the points. You need interesting and fun options - building blocks - for the players to craft their little guys from. Options that are exciting and easily communicate their core identity quickly.
A lot of this is walking a fine balance of providing enough options that making a choice is exciting, but not too many so as to be overwhelming.
But ultimately, these options are there to hit the dollmaker, picrew, character customization screen, itch. It should be fun to make all those decisions.
Aside: I gotta do more stuff with lifepath systems.
Of all the main ingredients to our incubator, character options are probably the easiest to come up.
Character Potential
This is where things start to get a little more complicated. Potential is all about aspiration. It's less about being able to get to that point, but more about "oh wow, look at all these extra things my cool OC could do".
These options are something to look forward to, something to think about. Neat cool extra doodads for making your cool little oc even cooler and expand on your cool little oc's story like milestones and growth.
In a lot of ways, these sorts of options are just an iteration of the initial character options you use when making your character. These are probably going to expand on core elements of the character options (class or playbook abilities, etc).
Again, the key point is potential and aspiration. To make you think about the future of the character.
I think, ideally, a game is intrinsically rewarding to play. You play it because its fun, not to get some sort of external reward. Play to play. But it also can be fun to put some carrots on the stick.\
As a treat.
Inviting Sandbox
The setting and premise of the game needs to invite players in. It's the big fancy dollhouse for all your cool toys. There needs to be space to play in it, but also there needs to be something to still play in! Some games are operating at an advantage: with well established settings that have been around for years and/or using a setting that utilizes tropes and ideas that also have been established for years. You know. Elves and stuff.
But! You absolutely do not need a well established setting or play with well established tropes to make an inviting sandbox! The main criteria is that it is inviting. Whatever that means to you, go for it. For me, an inviting setting, one that would make me want to play around in, needs;
Enough foundation to guide the play. What are the major players and assumptions of the settings? Give me the overview and broad strokes first!
Enough space for the table to add to while they play in. If every thing is set in stone, then what are we playing in this sandbox for? You need some sand to sculpt! Put some sand in your sandbox!
I could spend a lot more time talking about settings, sandboxes, and how it all circles back to anti-canon, but that's a story for another post.
Mixing It All Together
So, with those ingredients identified, how do you go about layering them all together? How should they interact with each other? And the easy answer is "I don't know, figure it out."
But also, I don't entirely know. You gotta figure that out for yourself. That's part of the design process. I don't think there's one singular way to "design" around getting people to have fun whipping together some cool OCs and then playing around with them together. In many senses, you can do that in practically any game. But for some of my current projects, I want to try keeping the three ingredients in mind as I write the games (particularly Furry Crime Game), and see what happens. Maybe it'll end up hitting the notes I want it to - crafting a game that makes the players constantly rotate their cool little guys in their mind - maybe it'll end up being something else. I dunno, real Ms. Frizzle hours: Get messy, make mistakes.
Also, as I'm writing this out now, I think a potential fourth ingredient to try mixing into the stew is Player Investment. Time, creativity, emotional. It all feeds into the character and different games expect different levels of investment. Something to probably keep in mind while you hone your game.
I don't know how else to end this, except to say that I'm excited to experiment in this space. Maybe you are too?

mihairu WHAT IS GOING ON
Overall, grandpa sends shu (who is multiple times directly described as a parallel of his grandpa) on a journey into his own past to learn and not have to make the same choices, to grasp happiness for himself. The way he goes about it is convoluted and it keeps asking and making you question what is fact and what is fiction, which is something ultimately shu gets to decide for himself. Ultimately it's about the freedom to be queer.
There is no illegitimate child. While living abroad as a woman, shu's grandpa befriended a dollmaker. They may or may not have loved each other romantically, shu and mika didnt seem to see eye to eye, but ultimately they had to part ways as shu's grandpa returned to japan to his fiancee. Madmoiselle was grandpa's feminine side he lived as in paris, which the dollmaker immortalized into dolls. Eventually the 2 had their own families, the dollmaker stopped his craft, became a landlord of the same building where shu lives now in paris. Shu doesnt want to interpret his grandpa and the dollmaker having had romantic feelings for each other they couldnt act upon because of the circumstances as then the ending wouldnt be a happy one. But whatever the past may be, the ending is clear. Shu and mika have to grasp happiness for themselves together, both for themselves and to honor those who couldnt.
Some of my favorite scenes include when they have a talk about a double suicide and then after when mika digs up a grave, making himself a criminal, to ensure shu's peace of mind regarding raphael being a hoax (raphael was actually grandpa all along, guiding them down this journey). After he finds a doll in the grave, mika is so shaken he collapses on the street, where shu finds him delirious and cold, and takes him home to safety in a way that parallels their first meeting as kids, where mika guides shu, who had gotten lost.
There was a lot more in these 29 chapters as you can imagine but i hope this was a good explanation and overview of my favorite moments. Please do wait for someone who is fluent in japanese to make a proper translation, because i only had google translate to go off of so some things could be wrong. Im still unsure of the landlord's gender. It doesnt matter much and i suspect it may be ambiguous on purpose, but still. Edit: the landlady is a woman and it does matter because she may or may not have been in love with madmoiselle.

AU where I give the DRDT cast original talents (plus my reasons for these talents)
Teruko Tawaki, the Ultimate Police Officer
(NGL: In addition to my theory of Wolfgang Akire getting a Teruko arc and my mental association between Teruko and Tsurugi Kinjo, the other reason I made Teruko a police officer was because of a Paw Patrol DRDT AU that had Chase as Teruko.)
Xander Matthews, the Ultimate Graphic Novelist
(He'd honestly write some pretty awesome graphic novels, probably centering around awesome adventures of rebellion and vigilantism.)
Eden Tobisa, the Ultimate Petsitter
(I only really gave her this talent due to that one remark she made in the prologue: "Do you think I walk dogs, silly?")
Hu Jing, the Ultimate Kickboxer
(I just love the mental image of a buff yet still chubby Hu who can and will beat someone up.)
J Moreno, the Ultimate Chess Grandmaster
(Just have the Rosales be a high-grade military family with J being groomed to be their best military strategist, only for her to just want to chill and play chess.)
Veronika Grebenshikova, the Ultimate Dollmaker
(She just has "dollmaker"/Jane Doe from "Ride the Cyclone" vibes.)
David Chiem, the Ultimate Part-Time Worker
(Customer service voice. Can also swap the XanVid dynamic by having David be a massive fan of Xander's graphic novels.)
Arturo Giles, the Ultimate Caterer
(Spending his whole life catering to and being surrounded by celebrities? That is Arturo's dream. Would cook the most elaborate and expensive dishes ever.)
Levi Fontana, the Ultimate Undertaker
(Maybe the indifference that comes from years of dealing with dead bodies could tie into both Levi's struggles with being seen as "heartless", despite wanting to be helpful, and Levi's friendship with the talentswapped Ace.)
Ace Markey, the Ultimate Paranormal Investigator
(A cowardly yet competent paranormal investigator is a character prompt that's too much comic gold to pass up. Also, see Levi's prompt above.)
Min Jeung, the Ultimate Archer
(I decided to swap Min's academic talent for an athletic talent, and found that archery would fit the focused and stoic Min. Also, Mafuyu Asahina.)
Whit Young, the Ultimate Model
(It's the Adrien Agreste energy. Also based around my theory that Kai and Diana would act like Whit figures for Damon, and decided to give Whit a talent that combines both Kai and Diana's talents.)
Charles Cuevas, the Ultimate Debater
(It's the Damon Maitsu energy.)
Arei Nageishi, the Ultimate News Reporter
(What better way to ruin people's lives then to dig up dirt on them and then put them on blast, on national television?)
Nico Hakobyan, the Ultimate Robotics Engineer
(Just swap out their love and understanding for animals with a love and understanding towards machines. Possible Entrapta kin.)
Rose Lacroix, the Ultimate Street Performer
(She would most likely take up busking, in order to support her family. I could easily picture her pulling multiple party tricks out of nowhere, wowing everybody around her.)

Hi Raven! How are you doing? May I request a gn!reader who is kinda like Daredevil(they are blind but their other senses are highly enhanced and they know how to fight) and meets the female lords(plus Miranda if it´s okay) and Lady D daughters and how they will react?
I'm alright, Anon. Thanks for asking. <3 I can do that.
Donna Beneviento, Mother Miranda, Cassandra Dimitrescu, Daniela Dimitrescu, Bela Dimitrescu, and Alcina Dimitrescu reacting to a blind reader that’s a skilled fighter and has highly enhanced senses of touch, smell, hearing, and taste.
(Gender neutral).
Warnings: violence, blood.
Masterlists here!
Donna Beneviento
Tumblr media
You work for the Duke. You’ve been working for him for a while now, but you’ve never made a delivery for him before.
“Just follow the sound of the waterfall,” Duke told you. “You’ll find it. There’s not much over there aside from the Beneviento manor.”
He proves to be right. You manage to navigate your way to your destination without much trouble.
You ascend the steps of what must be the correct house and knock on the door.
Donna wasn’t expecting a package and it isn’t often that she gets visitors, so she cloaks herself in one of her hallucinations and obscures herself from view.
Angie answers the door. You can hear the clicking of her little heels before it opens.
Now, you’ve had to work very hard to gain better control over your abilities, lest you be overwhelmed to the point of being unable to function properly. That being said, you’re surprised when a strong floral smell hits you like a battering ram to the face. It fogs your senses a bit. You have to take a moment to try and reorient yourself, to navigate through it.
You can’t… exactly tell what Angie is. You don’t think she’s human. Something is pulsating in her head. Almost like a heart would, but she isn’t breathing. Her scent is distinctly woody.
“Are you… a doll?” you ask uncertainly. Although you don’t know dolls to walk on their own, the village seems to be a strange place and you have no better guess. Lady Beneviento is a dollmaker, right? It sort of makes sense.
“Yeah,” Angie answers. “Are you lost or something?”
“I don’t believe so. The Duke has sent me to give this to Lady Beneviento.” You present the package. “Is that her over there?” You nod at a spot in the foyer behind her, where you believe there to be the presence of another being.
Donna and Angie are kind of shocked.
When you’re greeted with nothing but silence, you start to get a little concerned.
“...You… can see her?” Angie’s voice is lined with disbelief.
Your lips dip into a frown. “Well… no?” You’re confused as to why the person seems so taken aback. They don’t know you, you’re simply a stranger acting as the Duke’s courier. There’s no reason to be. Right?
Angie explains to you that Donna is meant to be invisible to your eyes. Donna just sort of stands there, rigid as a board. How do you know? How? This has never happened before.
“Oh... Well, I’m not using my eyes,” you say.
So. As it turns out, Donna’s powers don’t completely work on you. They can fool you if you’re not careful, but your senses are strong enough to mostly force their way through it.
Donna has a lot of questions, but she doesn’t ask them. Not that she needs to since Angie immediately starts firing them off without prompt from her.
You politely answer them for her, and agree to a few rounds of hide and seek because Angie wants to see if your abilities make you the ultimate seeker.
They kind of do. You drag things out a little for the fun of it, though. Donna simply watches.
Afterward, she thanks you for humoring Angie, who has definitely taken a liking to you already. Having already accepted Donna to be a silent presence akin to a ghost, you’re taken aback to hear a quiet, raspy voice from where you know her to be.
The next time you deliver a package to Donna, she offers you some tea. She isn’t exactly sure how to make it, though. Your enhanced senses must include taste too, right? If she makes it as strong as she typically does, will it overwhelm you? She probably ought to just ask you.
Mother Miranda
Tumblr media
On occasion, Miranda dons the disguise of a hag and heads into the village. It's one of those times.
You’re sweeping your house’s rickety porch when she passes by. Having stood somewhat close to where she was addressing the village during a recent festival, you easily identify her scent. It’s very distinct. Very… medicinal, you suppose.
It’s important to be respectful to the village’s goddess, so you are just that when you greet her and address her by her proper title.
Though, after you do, it properly registers that some things are very off. For one thing, her gait is uneven and she seems to be using a cane or staff of some sort.
Miranda holds her composure well, but on the inside, she is very taken aback.
You making it known that you’re aware of something you aren’t supposed to be? Right out in the open? So casually? Miranda perceives that as an attempt at threatening her. Just who do you think you are, villager? You’re very lucky that nobody else was nearby.
The next thing you know, the woman that somehow has Mother Miranda’s exact scent is inviting herself inside your house.
“Um—?”
The door quietly shuts, its sad excuse of a deadbolt slid into place.
The curtains are pulled closed. There’s the whoosh of wings.
Miranda is in your living room. You’re positive of that now.
It occurs to you that this encounter might end with you dead. Yes, you’re a skilled fighter, but this is Mother Miranda standing before you. There is a reason why the Four Lords, as powerful as they may be, follow her orders.
In an eerily calm tone of voice, Miranda questions you.
You drop to your knees and bow down as a sign of respect, apologies and explanations flowing past your lips at a rapid pace. It wasn’t your intention to nearly expose her like that. You can be trusted to keep your mouth shut, you swear!
Although she’s not known for being the most merciful in situations like these, Miranda is going to let you keep all of your important organs. You can calm down now.
…Or not. You're still babbling nervously.
“Silence.”
You immediately quiet up.
As a woman of science, Miranda finds your powers very, very fascinating. She voices this interest to you.
Would you be willing to allow her to run some tests on you?
Don’t be surprised if she starts keeping very detailed files about what you’re capable of.
Will probably start having you accompany her to Lord’s meetings at some point.
Cassandra Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
When Cassandra leaves the castle to hunt in the woods, it’s often deer or things of the like that she’s after.
However, that doesn’t mean she’s just gonna leave some fresh human meat alone if she comes across it!
There you are, minding your own business when the middle daughter starts trying to sneak up on you. She’s clearly experienced. If your senses weren’t enhanced, you probably wouldn’t even notice her approaching.
But you do. You hear her. You can hear her boots against the dirt, the fabric of her dress and cloak moving with her, her choker and necklace tinkling; you can smell the irony scent from the mostly dried blood on her face—also, bergamot?
Let’s not forget the strangest thing, though: there’s a very faint buzzing coming from Cassandra. Like insects flying around.
When Cassandra goes in for the kill, you’re prepared and dodge out of the way.
Honestly, she’s a little surprised. Like, what the hell was that? She’s never seen a villager that can pull off whatever acrobatic shit you’ve just done.
Cassandra swings again. And again. And again. And again. You’re proving much harder to dismember than she’d like.
Your eyes aren’t even near her as you’re weaving out of the way.
Most of Cassandra is enjoying the challenge (she feels like she hasn’t had a true one in quite a while), the rest is annoyed that you’re not letting her slice you to bits already. The only thing she’s managing to nick is your clothes.
She ends up just knocking you to the ground.
She stands over you, her sickle pointed at your face. Cutting up the ones who put up a fight is especially satisfying for Cass, and she shouldn’t hesitate to get started with you.
…However… she just has to know.
“How did you do that?” Cassandra demands.
“Do what?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.”
You nonchalantly explain your abilities to her, attempting to get comfortable on the forest floor since her weapon is still hovering close to you. It’s clear you aren’t truly intimidated.
Okay. Maybe you can consider Cassandra fascinated with you. And a little impressed. Not that her pride would ever allow her to directly admit that.
Cassandra’s sense of smell and hearing are definitely greater than the average human's, but they still don’t seem to quite compare to yours. Plus, your touch is enhanced too?
“You know what?” you say suddenly, snapping Cassandra out of her thoughts. “Although I am a little upset that you’ve spoiled my evening walk, I still had a rather good time. If you decide to spare me, maybe we can spar sometime?”
What a weird offer after Cassandra just tried to kill you. Weird, yet appealing.
Maybe you two can even hunt together? The only other people she’s met that are able to keep up with her are her sisters and mother.
Daniela Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
During the warmer months of the year, Daniela can and will take every opportunity to be outdoors.
That is why she's currently situated up in a big tree with a book in hand.
She's getting deeply absorbed in what she's reading when she hears rustling in the foliage down below.
Perfect timing, Daniela thinks. She was just starting to get thirsty.
A human is passing by.
Now, Daniela is a big fan of cutting things. And she never leaves home without a weapon (Cassandra drilled that into her head) so she does have her sickle on her, but… Well. It might be fun to try something new.
She's decently high up in the tree.
Her book is fairly heavy.
Daniela wonders what would happen if she dropped it. Will it knock you out? Kill you?
After dog-earing the page she's on, Daniela closes her book, aims, and lets go of it.
You step out of the way before you can be struck. She frowns. How unfun.
You pick up the failed murder weapon and dust it off, then tip your head back. “I believe you dropped this.”
Oh. You’re cute. Maybe Daniela won’t drain you of your blood.
She lets out a slight giggle. “Oops.”
“Here. Hold on,” you tell her, and she expects you to try and throw it back to her.
You don’t. Although you can tell where Daniela is, you can’t read her form well enough to be confident that you aren’t going to hit her in the face. So instead, you tuck the book into your bag and begin climbing.
Daniela watches as you almost effortlessly navigate your way up the branches, which is certainly more than she did to reach her spot. She simply turned into her swarm.
You hook your legs around a branch beside her and hold the book out.
You know, it’s funny. Even when Daniela doesn’t want them to be, most people are warier around her than you. They either recognize her as one of Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters, or see the red decorating her face and clothes and that sets off the warning bells.
You must either not care or remain oblivious.
You can smell the blood, but you don’t care. Perhaps she simply hurt herself while getting up here. How are you to know for certain? Asking doesn’t guarantee you the truth.
…Perhaps it isn’t her blood.  If this stranger tries to harm you, you’re more than capable of defending yourself, you think. For now, you’ll remain cordial.
“Thank you.”
“No worries.”
It would be so easy to send you plummeting, but Daniela doesn’t want to. Please stay for a bit and talk to her.
In the following days, you begin meeting up with Daniela by the same tree. She only learns of your abilities when she tries to show you a poem and you read it by running your fingers over the words, feeling the faint impressions of the ink on the page.
She’s like “???” until you explain.
Oh! No wonder why you avoided her murder attempt! You must have already known what was coming because you heard it. Or smelled it? Felt the disturbance of air?
Oh, god. Don’t let her think too hard about it. She’s going to get a headache while trying to wrap her mind around how this all works. It’s like when she thinks too hard about how her own existence works.
Bela Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
Bela is familiar with you. When doing business with the Duke on behalf of or with her mother, she has often seen you by the merchant’s side.
She is… somewhat fond of you, she supposes. That’s what she’s intent on using to describe her feelings, anyway.
Mother is busy attending a Lord’s meeting today, so Bela is going to once again be seeing the Duke (and perhaps you) by herself.
Except the Duke does not show up. Only you.
After going through with the transaction both of you showed up for, you linger for a while longer and continue to chat with Bela.
When you do leave, she watches as you walk down the path.
That’s when she notices it. A filthy creature with its beady eyes trained on you and a poor excuse for an ax in its hands.
Lycans don’t find their way past the gates all that often. Were it almost anyone else in danger, Bela would let them get mauled to death before slaying it.
You, however, are one of few exceptions.
With speed incongruent to its size, the Lycan begins to come at you.
Bela is quick enough to save you.
But she doesn’t need to.
You knew what was likely to happen long before it started to. As the monster raises its weapon and prepares to cleave through your head, you duck out of the way.
Once you’re out of the radius of the swing, you quickly straighten and wheel around, driving the hunting knife you always carry into the Lycan’s neck.
That single attack isn’t enough to take it down, of course, but it does catch it by surprise.
The next thing you know, Bela has closed the distance between her, you, and the beast.
More blood spills.
The Lycan collapses onto the dirt.
You offer your thanks to Bela for the help, your unseeing eyes darting around the place where her face must be.
Bela stares at you.
What was that? Sure, you probably heard those heavy footfalls heading towards you, but how did you so perfectly dodge that ax? And that forceful stab you delivered? Bela didn’t expect that from you at all. You’re so gentle!
You say goodbye once more and continue on your way without another word.
Now, hold on a second. Bela has questions! Many, many questions.
She is so very intrigued by the unique things you can do with your abilities, and impressed by the amount of control you have to exert with them.
Alcina Dimitrescu
Tumblr media
You’re prey.
You’re wandering near the castle grounds. Alcina can see you from one of the windows. Her daughters, outside enjoying the spring weather, have spotted you.
You’re dead.
Shame, Alcina thinks with zero sincerity. She takes a sip of her wine and continues to look on.
Daniela is going to reach you first.
Your blood is going to spill.
Just before the youngest's knife can sneak around to your front and split open your throat, you grab her arm with both hands and yank, flipping her over your shoulder.
Alcina’s eyes widen slightly in mild surprise.
Just as the countess expects her to, Daniela dissolves into her swarm before she can hit the ground.
Few can put up a decent fight against her daughters. Even fewer can do so when faced with all three of them. But there you are, still standing. You don’t even appear to have a weapon on you.
You do eventually fall. Just like all the others. One can only avoid so many swings.
Instead of draining you of your blood then and there, the girls begin to drag you to the front doors. They must be just as fascinated by you as Alcina is.
She sits back and waits, knowing that she is about to meet you as well.
“It’s pointless to struggle,” one voice says. It remains marginally more controlled than the other two. Smooth like satin. But you know danger lurks beneath. You’ve just been victim to it.
“By all means though, keep trying!” The second voice can barely contain her desire to maim, to keep watching you fight for your life.
The third simply giggles. So happy. So excited. There is nothing to be happy or excited about. Not in your opinion, anyway.
Knuckles strike wood twice.
“You may enter.”
Still failing about, albeit weakly, you’re brought into the room.
“We caught this one outside the gates, Mother.”
“Oh, I saw,” Alcina tells her daughters. Her voice comes from ridiculously high above you. She must be very tall. “Such a nimble little mouse, aren’t you?”
The first words that leave your lips take the form of an apology. Not the quivering, desperate kind that comes from somebody oh so afraid for their life, but one that seems sincere. That’s not to say that your voice is completely steady, though.
“I did not know I was trespassing.”
Right. So you saw the castle, saw the signs of occupancy, and assumed you weren’t trespassing?
“I did not see.” You tilt your head up. Your eyes dart all over, but they fail to linger on anything for long. The movement seems almost aimless and uncontrolled. “I’m completely blind.”
You don’t stop there. You ramble on and on and although Alcina usually silences ramblers, she lets you continue until you run out of words.
Alcina finds your enhanced senses mildly interesting, but she's more intrigued by your fighting skills.
Unusual abilities just aren't too wild of a concept to her anymore. Alcina has giant claws that she can retract at will, her daughters are made of flies, the village's leader is a bird-woman... You seem fairly normal in comparison.
Your fighting skills, though? You're so graceful and practiced. She could spend all day watching you.

BFB Danganronpa AU idea (Part 1)
Season: I imagine this fanganronpa to be like a reality show, similar to Danganronpa V3. Unlike V3, the students will have legitimate talents and the show will take place in an elitist dystopia, where only true utlimates can succeed in life. The cast will also consist of 28 ultimates (half of the BfB cast) instead of the standard sixteen, given how this season is meant to be an anniversary of sorts. Likewise, some of the previous winners/survivors will abducted...I mean, brought back to participate. This au will also add some world building to the outside world that is watching Danganronpa unfold.
The Crew of Danganronpa:
There were some shady dealings going on to rig the show for particular contestants in the previous seasons, especially if they are the mastermind.
Some of the participants were thrown in due to how they were deemed as threats by the government
Hope's Peak Academy themselves (specifically, the Steering Commitee) are funding these killing games.
Some of the crewmembers working on Danganronpa are connected to the participants
Additionally, the Steering Commitee is a much more powerful force in this universe. Not only are they the ones running Hope's Peak Academy, they are also a multinational corporation (similar to Vought from The Boys) that has its hands in this country's way of life; Such as entertainment, manufacturing, banks, and even some parts of the Federal government.
Outside World:
This specifically killing game is taking place in North America (Canada and the US have formed as one massive nation)
BFDI, II, OSO, ABCDFG, and other object shows exist in this universe.
People deemed talentless are basically used as cattle, doomed to a miserable life(like that one Black Mirror episode)
Social media is accessible, but it's only used as a distraction.
Talents:
Some of the talents will be call-backs to previous games: both official and fan-made. It is a milestone in-universe after all.
They are (Guess which one is which): - Ultimate Conspiracist - Ultimate Surgeon - Ultimate Dollmaker - Ultimate Pacifist - Ultimate Psychologist - Ultimate Dictionary - Ultimate Food Critic - Ultimate Professor - Ultimate Kendoka - Ultimate Pastry Chef - Ultimate Ghost Writer - Ultimate Beautician - Ultimate Voice Actor - Ultimate Prankster - Ultimate Flutist - Ultimate Occultist - Ultimate Crime Journalist - Ultimate Children's Entertainer - Ultimate Robotocist - Ultimate Web Designer - Ultimate Herbalist - Ultimate Jeweler - Ultimate Horror Mangaka - Ultimate Reporter - Ultimate Ghost Whisperer - Ultimate Student Council President - Ultimate Bad Luck (Fake) : Ultimate Illusionist(Real) - Ultimate Paparazzi
Contestants:
-Some of these students have been basically conscripted into the killing game either by their parents or SC.
The way this works is that some of the students were already in the industry as children, starting out as either actors or some other public figure promoted by SC. If the child is suspected to have some sort of talent, once they reached the rightful age of 6, their parents are forced to give their child up to the corporation. Refusal to do so can result in prosecution under the government's order. The only exceptions to the rule are those who have ties to SC, Hope's Peak Academy, or those who are considered "elite". Focusing back on the participants: if they are deemed worthy enough to succeed later in life, they will be put under a lifetime contract that controls every aspect of their life, aside from their talent. More often than not, they will be forced to participate in the Danganronpa reality show, regardless of whether or not they wish to compete.
Likewise, these children will later be scouted into the academy, registered with their talent of choice.
However, there are some exceptions, as there are other ways for Hope's Peak students to be forced into playing the twisted game:
------------------------------------------------------------------
They're deemed a threat by the government
2. They have been charged with some sort of federal crime
3. They have tried to escape the talent system by fleeing the country
4. They willingly volunteered to participate (This more or so happens with "Masterminds")
------------------------------------------------------------------
Elaine Duong (Liy) : - Our Protagonist - Half-Slavic-Greek, Half Vietnamese - Was trained in self-defense - Her diet is the bare minimum - Changed her talent title halfway through - Decent piano player - Feels defined by her past actions - Carries around a personal first aid kit - Because of her talent, she frequently travels around the world along with her agent, especially when there are "special missions" according to the SC. - Detatchment issues - Can speak Vietnamese, Japanese, German, Slovak, Cree, and English - Strongly opposes unecessary violence - Survivor of a previous killing game - Does a lot of fundraiser work - Excellent critical thinking skills - Admires women who are naturally curious (Aka being a Lesbian) - Guilt is a strong motivator - Wants people to understand. - Volunteered for a very, personal reason Leah Rosario (Leafy) : - Pronouns:She/They - Half Filipino, Half Arabic - Fascinated with examining how the body can function along with how things can be taken apart and put back together - Due to the stressful nature of her talent, she has a messed up sleep schedule - Chi-Hao (Woody) is her half-brother, a brother she does deeply care about. - She was one of the children that were forced into the spotlight, this time by her mother. - Much like in canon, she is someone who is sensitive to criticism, particularly when it involves her talent - Picked up some narcissistic 'fleas' from her mother - Tolerant of gorey horror movies - Carries around a scalpel in case of emergencies. - Survivor of a previous killing game - Frequently drinks tea - Has a somewhat unhinged way of practicing medicine. - Secretly mistrustful of others - Oops, I think I made her the Kyoko. Hopefully she isn't too OOC Akechi Hariko (Foldy): - Pronouns: She/her - Polyromantic Asexual - Japanese - Fan is her step-sibling - Has a strong sense of honor and a strong belief in retribution. - Trained herself in Kendo - The cardigan she wears is a gift from Stapy - Owns a journal where she writes down whatever was on her mind - She was spared from the SC contract, since her mother was a celebrity endorsed by them. Thus, she was scouted "normally" by Hope's Peak - Massive fan of the pulp action movies - Currently searching for Stapy - Secretly has an inferiority complex - Owns a dog named Peko Madeline Bao (Puffball) : - She/They Biracial (Vietnamese, White) - Surprisingly useful in class trials - They created the dress they wear by hand - Absolutely a Melanie Martinez stan - Their favourite types of dolls are Ragdolls and Monster High Style dolls - Has a rather robotic voice (Referencing how Puffball's voice is autotune in the actual show) - Adores multicoloured pastels - Has a risk/reward mindset - Volunteered for the killing game - Massive sweet tooth - Favourite aesthetics are kawaiicore, japanese victorian, dreamcore, and dollcore - Deeply touch starved - Doesn't know who her parents are. ------------------------------------------------- SPOILERS (Quickly Scroll Ahead) : - Absolutely the mastermind - That being said, she doesn't do it for the sake of spreading despair, rather she does it to be seen as a"work of art". -She does have some respect for Liy and the others for their dedication to survival -Additionally, the executions can actually be survivable if the student is able to make smart sacrifices. If not, their death wish is signed. ------------------------------------------------ Brandon Owada (Blocky) : - Probably the first person to die (RIP) - Was taken away from his family and made into a child actor - Forced into the killing game because of his contract - He took his anger out during both his time as a child actor, and his time in Hope's Peak - Although, Blocky's Funny Doings International does exist as a web series in this universe, but it was taken down shortly after it apparently contained: "Material denouncing the Steering Commitee" ------------------------------------------------- So that's everything I have for this BFB Danganronpa Au (For this part). I'll do the remaining contestants in part 2.

Could you give some more information on your werewolf story?? Do you have more designs for the characters?? 👉👈
well i guess it starts with vauren (not a werewolf) who, in his usual habit of using and discarding people, goads a young man into sorcery that ultimately ends in lycanthropy. that young man then ends up traumatizing my boy jonthan by eviscerating his father in front of him and chewing on his arm. vauren "rescues" jonthan and keeps him around for a while before moving on to his next victim: a normie named tomas.
jonthan is fortunately able to develop a relatively stable lifestyle as a hunter/trapper over the next several years using what his father had taught him as a kid. plus, salvaging what he can from the wolf's indiscriminate killing sprees helps him cope.
on one of his trips into town, normie tomas finds him and effectively hires him to kidnap vauren's new favorite, a weird fae-child who we'll call taleigh bc i haven't come up w a better name since first draft.
taleigh is relatively easily persuaded bc she doesn't really like vauren on account of she knows it was him who killed her family to get her. so the "kidnapping" is successful but now vauren is Big Mad bc taleigh was vital to his current scheme.
(that said tho, taleigh is still a feral goblin child and she causes several problems. some of them even on purpose.) (currently toying w the idea of her having some minor shapeshifting ability that's limited to her face/head so she can change the shape of her ears, pupils, nose, etc.)
ANYWAY that's the main setup and there are some other supporting characters that include:
old man hale, an elderly healer who specializes in werewolves and werewolf-adjacent maladies, and his granddaughter (maybe), ane, who works as his assistant and is also a wolven.
the wolven pack
lae, a willow-wight who's been surreptitiously working against vauren from within his camp ever since he discarded her. (tho she is limited by an oath she swore back when she trusted him)
as for art, sadly i don't have much. just a couple (old) (OLD) pictures of ane tbh. i would love to draw vauren, but he's canonically the prettiest man you've ever seen, and my art skill isn't up to that yet. (I'VE TRIED :') )
anyway, ane's on the left in the left-most pic. (i had a short story that involved her origin that i've been trying to rewrite for ages)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh wait no i've got one more of her in chibi style of dubious quality of how she be as an adult
Tumblr media
what the hey, while i'm here have some dollmaker stuff of her, her wolf form, and emeric.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THANKS FOR LETTING ME RAMBLE!! it means a lot. sorry i don't have more references. drawing characters from my own brain is a skill i need to work on.

amane gymnasium is a deconstruction of early bl
Tumblr media
pictured is part of the back of volume 3 : )
amane gymnasium follows the title character, the dollmaker amane, and chronicles her life after her creations come to life. it hasn't been fully translated yet (though the first chapter can be read here on mangadex) but based on what i know about it (from being in a fortunate position where one of my friends can translate), aside from being really charming on its own, it unpacks and questions the bl genre from around the time furuya would have been engaging with it. (spoilers under the cut - i'll try and keep discussion of specific plot events to a minimum but i will definitely be spoiling like, the overall plot direction and concept)
on the surface level, the plot that follows amane's dolls and how they relate to each other has a lot of similarities to works by hagio and takemiya that set up the shounen ai genre and are often considered the 'first bl'. there's bullying, exploitation, and relationship struggles, all set against the backdrop of a european boarding school; all things that were typical to these works. even theo's design (in particular) seems to call back to that earlier time. but this story is within her story - 'amane gymnasium', the story that her dolls ultimately end up following, was written by amane in her journals; we see as she reacts with horror to the things she wrote that befalls these characters, and how she scrambles to fix things between them.
amane's horror, along with the way furuya portrays the events happening in the gymnasium, call into question the aestheticism and beauty these events are treated with in earlier works. it's easy to forget the horror and get lost in that beauty and relish the brief moments of 'respite' a work like kaze to ki no uta presents you with - but amane gymnasium doesn't allow you to forget. you watch these things befall them, you're a helpless onlooker, and it's distinctly not beautiful, and then you watch amane fall apart about it during her daily life. the events are the same - but furuya strips back the rose coloured filter and leaves you with the horrifying reality contrasting against the same elegant background, and amane's dolls who are beautiful in the same way. it doesn’t end there either - eventually it’s revealed to us that all of the things written were things that happened to amane herself, and the story was a coping mechanism of sorts - and it manifests in front of her through her dolls as the most literal reminder possible that all of it is unresolved and festering within her.
in the end, though, amane gymnasium is a story about facing your past and overcoming it, and moving forward. and despite digging in to that genre, it’s evident that furuya has a lot of love for it - and a lot of love for the people who consume it, as well (a similar situation can be found in genkaku picasso, too!). and I think that’s who should be attempting something like this - we see it often that somebody creates an edgy, cynical parody of a genre and then other people who hate that genre pile in and be like wow…. so cool and deconstructive….. and I don’t think they’re qualified to do that. the hot take of this post is that people who earnestly love (or have earnestly loved) and understand genres of media are the only ones who are truly fit to deconstruct them
might come back to this post later when it is in fact translated and make some more specific insights (there’s something with zepp I feel like has some significance but I’m not 100% sure enough to comment in case it’s misinformation) but who knows <3

Book review - Loot by Tania James
This one turned out to be a lot more boring than it seemed. It is a about a young, talented woodworker named Abbas from Srirangapatna, Mysore, whose work catches the eye of Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan enlists Abbas to work for him, under the apprenticeship of a French clockmaker named Lucien Du Leze. Together, they build a one-of-a-kind musical automaton of a tiger killing a British soldier, which is later stolen as a war prize when the British attack Mysore and kill Tipu Sultan. Abbas later moves to France, where he learns that the tiger has been given to the wife of one of the British soldiers. He goes to England with Jehanne, a girl he knew from his childhood that also went to France, to try and get the tiger back.
..............................................................................................................................
I thought this book had a very interesting concept, but there are huge gaps in time left unexplained, random deaths that didn't make much sense, and an anticlimactic ending (its described as a heist novel but Abbas and Jehanne ultimately don't get the Tiger back, and for all his prodigious talent Abbas becomes a dollmaker). It did have a wry sense of humor that I enjoyed, though.

OKAY YAY HIIII
it's called phoenix's hope . takes place like ages after the tragedy kinda like drdt !! some dumbass gets the idea to try and recreate team danganronpa and stuff happens , after a few years they get it up and running. the first few seasons flopped but then there was an Interesting Plotline carried through all of the others and caused it to blow up. the seasons always ended quick due to the plot, and this season would be considered the finale !!
i still dont have a full name for the school but i do know that it'll have the word phoenix in it, and that it is a college. it was originally a rebuilt hope's peak, but they changed the name and made it a college instead of a hs
the main character is names haru suzuki !! shes 18 & is the ult lucky student, but she doesnt really have anything going for her. she's not unlucky either, but she will have random bursts of luck or misfortune when it matters most ; shes got a prosthetic leg due to one of those. obviously picked to be put into the college !
everyone is 17-19 except for 1 character who i will talk ab eventually .
im just gonna list the characters now
haruni kai, 17, ultimate tutor, she/her
lizabeth [pending], 17, ultimate veterinarian, she/her

Mikado with ultimate dollmaker s/o? Plantonic if its okay with you<:
I gotcha!
——————————————————————
- 3rd person
- no set of pronouns used
- Platonic
——————————————————————
-The first thing he does when he figures out you are the ultimate Dollmaker he will ofc ask you to make him! Not that you would refuse the offer from the worlds greatest wizard!…right?
- And maybe you could make void into dolls! He will maybe ask you to make MANY Nikei dolls, (so he can burn them to ash like he did to Rei-)
- Wants to be as close as possible to you, for both of those reasons! (No one could really help you at that point really, well without consequences of course!)
- Whether or not you agreed to it you are now his best friend! Yay!
- You will def be a survivor because of that! The perks of being best friends of the best wizard of all~!
- Nikei would after you for two reasons, you are friends with Mikado and you agreed to making those dolls! So watch your back!
——————————————————————
Well those are my thoughts about that!
Hope you enjoyed!________________________________________

Tumblr media
ANON :   “ Why  does  Sasori  use  Hiruko  all  the  time  when  hes  so  ugly ”
Tumblr media
That's  actually  a  pretty  good  question  anon !  So my thoughts are like  yeah,  Sasori  is  outwardly  beautiful  and  eternally  so  which  I  do  think  there  is  some  kind  of  element  of  vanity  in   but  I  guess  maybe  the  best  way  to  explain  it  is  overall,  Sasori  is  really  the  trope  of  distorted  innocence  which  is  a  heavy  theme  surrounding  objects  like  dolls  in  horror  genres  bc  we  relate  dolls  so  heavily  to  children.  Children  love  dolls  and  they're  often  human  or  animal  shaped  objects  that  a  child  can  control  /  relate  to  since  they're  usually  made  to  be  representative  of  or  desirable  or  just  comforting  to  the  child  in  some  way:  think  baby  dolls,  barbie  dolls,  rag  dolls  etc.
Sasori  is  quite  literally  the  Naruto  worlds  ultimate  answer  to  the  Doll  Episode  trope  which  is  very  common  and  effective  in  the  horror  and  fantasy  genre.
The  dolls  are  being  made  to  replicate/replace  a  lost  loved  one,  such  as  a  child,  a  spouse  or  a  sibling. The  dolls  are  made  from  human  components,  dead  or  otherwise.  The  dollmaker  is  obsessed  with  dolls  for  some  reason,  and  has  taken  to  preferring  them  over  humans.  Maybe  even  wishing  humans were  more  like  dolls. The  dolls  are  possessed  by  an  evil  spirit, are  Ridiculously  Human  Robots,  or  have  otherwise  become  animated/alive  and  actively malevolent.
The  dollmaker  or  collector  will  usually  be  a  madman  or  woman  who  has  taken  a  shine  to  the  protagonists  either  as  "something"  to  add  to  their   collection,  potential  parts  for  their  latest  creation,  or  threats  to  themselves  and  their  beloved  collection,  making  them  try  to  capture  or  kill  them.
Sasori  is  literally  every  one  of  these  elements  combined  and  further  he  comes  from  the  perspective  of  not  just  a  disturbed  adult  but  most  strongly  from  the  psyche  of  an  extremely  damaged  child  which  is  emphasized  by  the  fact  we  do  not  see  Sasori’s  “ true  self ”  as  a  grown  man.  Hes  forever  in  the  body  of  a  young  boy.  Trauma  in  children  manifests  itself  in  various  different  ways  just  like  trauma  in  adults  but  sometimes  traumatized  children  become  very  reliant  on  objects  or  tv  shows,  characters,  etc  for  comfort  and  emotional  support.
Things  that  aren't  people,  usually  bc  they've  found  people  to  be  unreliable  or  a  source  of  abuse/pain  and  thus  they  escape  into  or  hide  behind  these  ‘comfort  objects’.  Though  the  behavior  is  normal  for  very  young  children,  children  who  never  stop  this  kind  of  behavior  and  keep  it  going  well  beyond  the  age  deemed  appropriate  to  like  certain  things /  carry  around  stuffed  toys  ETC  are  doing  it  usually  because  of  trauma.   Sometimes  this  is  fine  and  not  a  problem  for  the  person  at  all  but  sometimes  is  deeply  unhealthy  and  does  pose  a  problem  for  the  effected  person.
PS  don’t  take  anything  I  say  as  gospel  either !  Im  not  a  professional  or  anything.
However,  in  my  eyes  Sasori  is  a  deeply  traumatised  child.  Puppets  were  an  escape  and  a  happy  place  for  him.  Somewhere  he  felt  comfort.  He  tried  to  replace  his  parents  with  puppets  to  fill  the  void  they  left  him  with,  he  tried  to  make  them  love  him  like  the  real  ones  did.  He  took  them  to  bed  with  him,  gave  them  his  pillows  to  sleep  on.  He  spent  a  lot  of  time  learning  to  make  their  movements  lifelike  so  they  could  hug  and  comfort  him  the  way  his  real  parents  did,  it  wasn't  exactly  the  same  but  it  was  something  he  held  on  to  to  cope  with  their  sudden  departure.
This  is  all  canon.  In  at  least  in  my  headcanon  Sasori  believed  his  mother  and  father  puppets  did  ‘care  for  him’.  He  had  this  idea  that  there  was  a  part  of  them  in  the  puppets  he  made  and   whether  that  was  true  or  not  this  idea  was  heavily  reinforced  when  Sasori  was  pushed  to  become  a  shinobi,  which  he  didn’t  exactly  have  any  objections  to  given  he  was  only  6  and  his  mother,  father  and  grandmother  were  all  shinobi  so  it  felt  normal  and  good  to  be  one  himself. However,  this  is  a  massive  fault  of  the  Naruto  world,  child  soldiers  are  not  healthy  or  normal  or  good.  Sasoris  puppet  parents,  again  in  my  HC,  became  his  weapons.  It  gave  them  the  illusion  of  protecting  him  because they  literally  were  even  if  Sasori  was  the  one  controlling  them.
Sasori  may  of  “outgrown”  these  puppets  but  he  never  outgrew  the  attachment  he  had  to  puppets,  rather  this  attachment  gradually  evolved  when  puppets  became  extremely  idealised  n  intertwined  with  human  life.  The  foundation  for  it  was  always  there  with  how  Sasori  treated  his  parent  puppets  as  “alive”  in  ways  but  the  real  problem  came  when  Sasori  started  to  relate  living  people  /  shinobi  to  puppets.  He  began  trying  to  essentially  make  them  one  because  he  believed  this  was  ideal  not  just  because  of  his  own  personal  trauma  but  because  being  a  shinobi  essentially  meant  being  a  weapon  /  object   which  human  beings  were  ill  suited  while  puppets  were  perfect.
Sasori  was  replacing  the  weak  /  unreliable  /  temporary  /  breakable  with  something  strong  /  reliable  /  permanent  /  indestructible.  Sasori  was  deeply  effected  by  how  much  death  and  dismemberment  he  witnessed  in  the  people  around  him,  he  sought  to  eliminate  this  issue.  Puppets  were  his  answer  to  everything.  As  this  progressed  he  started  disliking  humanity  entirely  and  clinging  to  his  puppets  as  a  source  of  shelter  /  refuge  from  humanity  who  swiftly  began  to  judge  him  despite  being  the  ones  who  set  him  on  his  path.  In  fact,  in  ways  Sasori  was  basically  ASKED  to  do  what  he  did  and  when  he  did  it  suddenly  everyone  was  against  it.  Its  something  Sasori  couldn’t  understand  or  handle. so  Sasori  went  from  wanting  to  breath  life  into  puppets  to  simply  wanting  to  make  humans  into  puppets  out  a  the  deep  dislike/distrust/betrayal  he  felt.
Komushi  was  Sasori’s  first  ‘ human  puppet ’   but  Sasori  didn’t  view  Komushi  as  his  own.  He  technically  made  Kumoshi  for  his  mother.  Needless  to  say  despite  the  request  its  not  what  Kumoshi’s  mother  wanted.
There  was  a  lot  of  pressure  on  Sasori  to  “preform”  to  help  his  village.  To  protect  its  people.  Sasori  outlived  pretty  much  all  shinobi  tasked  with  the  same  job  to  the  point  where  he  started  to  believe  in  some  way  in  the  back  of  his  mind  that  he  alone  was  capable.  He  began  to  think  if  he  just  turned  people  into  human  puppets  they  couldn’t  be  beaten  or  destroyed  because  he  wouldn’t  allow  such  a  thing.
Hiruko  was  Sasori’s  first  real  creation  for  himself.  No  one  asked  him  to  build  Hiruko,  he  didn’t  build  him  to  comfort  anyone  else. Hes  kind  of  the  first  human  puppet  Sasori  made  when  he  began  to  do  things  for  himself  and  not  to  help  his  village. In  a  way,  Hiruko  is  linked  to  Sasori’s  freedom,  to  Sasori  choosing  his  art  and  “happiness”  over  his  village’s  desire  for  him  to  be  a  slave  that  follows  orders  and  destroys  himself  for  their  betterment.  He  was  done  with  that.
Essentially,   despite  Hiruko’s  “ugliness”  hes  Sasori’s  favourite  toy  and Sasori  very  much  treats  him  the  way  a  child  treats  a  favourite  toy.  He  goes  everywhere  with  Sasori,  Sasori  relies  on  him  out  of  comfort.  Theres  also  the  secondary  element  of  convenience  since  he  does  mask  Sasori’s  true  appearance  giving  him  a  disguise  and  hes  literally  a  suit  of  armour  as  well.  Sasori’s  aware  Hiruko  is  ugly  but  hes  fond  of  him  the  way  a  child  might  love  a  teddy  bear  even  if  it  the  bear  appears  to  others  as  gross  and  ratty  and  old  and  they  could  probably  have  a  newer,  prettier  bear  its  not  the  looks  that  are  important.  Its  The  sentimental  value  and  thus  the  comfort  it  provides.
I  also  personally  view  Hiruko  as  another  symbol  of  that  distorted  innocence  Sasori  represents  as  I  mentioned  earlier.  Sasori’s  appearance  is  that  of  a  young,  beautiful,  innocent  serene  looking  youth  which  we  know  as  his  true  form  but  rather,  I  see  Hiruko  as  just  as  just  as  representative  of  the  true  Sasori,  something  more  symbolic  of  Sasori’s  soul.  Something  frightening,  old,  ugly  and  twisted  and violent.  They're  both  sides  of  the  same  coin.  I  think  In  some  way,  perhaps  subconsciously  Sasori  relates  to  Hiruko  this  way  as  well.
LASTLY,  before  I  ramble  more bc omg I've never shut up a day in my life,  Sasori  and  Hiruko  are  both  representative  literally   of  the  scorpion.  Sasori  more  spiritually  and  Hiruko  more  psychically.  Scorpions  are  an  armored,  intimating  animal  with  a  venomous  sting  from  their  defensive  and offensive  tails.  Scorpions  are  symbolic  with  healing,  death,  rebirth,  passion,  revenge,  mystery.
Scorpions  were  thought  to  have  the  ability  to  heal  just  as  easily  as  kill.  Scorpions  are  both  seen  as  evil  and  demonic  as  well  as  pure  and  angelic. They’re  typically  feared  and  also  highly  sacred.  Theyre  a  symbol  of  deep  emotion  yet  being  an  arachnid  they’re  also  thought  of  as  insectiod  which  simultaneously  gives  them  the  impression  of  being  simply  unfeeling  and  machine-like.
The  scorpion  represents  a  shy,  gentle  creature  that  prefers  to  keep  to  itself  yet  when  needed  its  perfectly  bold,  magnetic  and  vicious.  I  think  its  really  interesting  to  note  how  closely  fitting  Sasori  is  to  the  symbolism  of  scorpions  if  you  look  at  them  in  various  cultures  and  mythology  and  I've  tied  him  very  heavily  to  these  concepts  because  I'm  insane  like  that.
