Lounging lazily in the corner of her room, in a pretty chair he's helped himself to, he waits until she makes it upstairs to find him there. He had strolled into her house, into her space, like he owned it but the thin cloth laid over his lap had just been.. Left out for him, for anyone, to see. When he finally crosses into the threshold of her room, he grins and spins the lacy panties around a single finger. "You brother know you buy stuff like this? That you wear it?"

It takes all of her willpower to neither jump clear out of her skin nor to rip his bones out of his with the slightest flick of her wrist. Instead she backs one, two, three bare-footed steps back and tilt her head up toward him ~she is a halfling in a world of giants~ and bares her teeth. He can take it for a smile, but that isn't exactly what she does. She usually hides smiles behind her hand. For a moment her gaze flicks between his mouth and his hand, the item in it, then up again but to his own eyes. She isn't the kind to shrink from the rough handling of unmentionables, and if anyone understands what thousand dollar French silk and lace feels like, it would be Billy Russo. "Actually, he's glad I do as much. I'm clearly not as well built as some ladies an' half da time, I don't boddah wi'd bras. Undahpants much more socially concernin' an' I am pretty sure he hates it when I wear bikini bottoms instead. Question is, are your hips narrow enough t' fit into dem?" They both know he's not. The suits hide his musculature, and there's rumours she's heard about the rest of his endowments. "An if so...you gonna show me?"

you're one of the few i follow who talks about bucky and so here i am once again in your inbox because the whole way the MCU has approached bucky is just not it. you know? they wrote themselves in a hole. they don't know how to respond exactly with his popularity as a character and no homo'd his most important relationship so hard they're two dudes chilling in two different timelines because it's not gay. the whole 'made amends' thing is just wrong and terrible. bucky didn't do anything wrong! hydra did. hydra used him and yet the narrative has placed it on his shoulders. i enjoyed tfatws but i think there were quite a few odd character writing choices.
hiya !! lovely 2 see u in my inbox again <33
(two bros chilling in 2 different timelines cos theyre not gay killed me bdw)
oh 100% bucky has been mishandled by marvel, i wanna say since the very end of cacw. catfa bucky was splendid and amazingly written, super in character, like That's My Bucky.
catws bucky was obviously brainwashed but (even tho the russos had their grimy little hands on this one) again, amazingly written and handled esp thanks to seb.
it starts to go a little awry at the end of cacw. it was fine when bucky said "i dont know if im worth all this steve" nd steve replies "what you did all those years, it wasnt you. you didnt have a choice" bc this. THIS was the perfect way to be handling buckys trauma. and steve was the ONLY person who could do that. im sorry, but not even sam, whos a licenced councellor, could do that for bucky. the first red flag was before bucky went into cryo and NONE of his fears/feelings were dealt w beforehand. he just goes "i cant trust my own mind" and yoink into the freezer he goes! cacw wasnt terrible w handling bucky, but it did waste a lot of potential with discussing and exploring his character and what he went through. probably bc wuhhh a man cant have FEELINGS and GOD FORBID he show and express them in a HEALTHY WAY in a superhero movie !! (that should have been averngers: civil war, bdw. marvel u actually owe us ca:serpent society)
black panther end credits. what the fuck. is all im gonna say. russos overdosed on how can we make this guys "road to recovery" LOOK like its going like pure shit but not explain why, how, when, who and where.
infinity was a sorta a fucking joke iwel. there were some good parts like the steve and bucky reunion eg. "not bad, for the end of the world" (gives me catfa vibes 😭) and "steve?" being the last words bucky said before being dusted, ik bucky wasnt supposed 2 be the focus in this movie but the fact that they made him fight again after he was supposedly "cured" (see: "semi-stable 100 year old man") was cruel and lacked the exploration it needed to justify it.
endgame is self explanatory. shit movie all-round, pain for everybody in the audience!! it was more of a mishandling of steve rather than bucky, but if we're talking abt bucky specifically, he was more neglected than mishandled. not being bothered to do his metal arm? not showing us the convo he supposedly had with steve before he left? not showing us his reaction to steves joe biden cosplay? horrible. terrible, couldn't have gone worse. once again, seb did ALL the heavy lifting. he is 99% of buckys character.
all of this doesn't even take into account steve and buckys relationship. they are the absolute focal points of each other’s characters, and it was all not just swept under the rug, but the floor was then set on fire, the room burnt to a crisp, the house demolished and then launched into oblivion.
and now to adress what u actually asked, tfatws. i also enjoyed it, but that doesnt mean i think PERSONALLY that it was well written (and thats okay). i do understand it was supposed to deal w sam more than bucky, which it did, but if im being brutally honest, tfatws bucky didnt.... feel like bucky..... which isnt to say seb didnt do a good job, bc he carried what was left of buckys character from the writing, but it was like watching the wrong shoe being put on the correct foot, if that makes sense. bucky was treated like the bad guy, stoic and pissy. "guy with a staring problem", comic fucking relief. govt mandated therapy, constant dismissal, and being thrown back into a fights without it being acknowledged why first. i have no issue w characters who want to keep fighting regardless of trauma (see: john watson) but they NEED the verbal acknowledgement AND the right support system for that plot to be acceptable and sustainable. tfatws did none of that. they reduced bucky to Cap's sidekick again (even tho he wasnt steves sidekick, it feels like he is sams imo pls dont kill me 😭). none of what should have been dealt with was dealt with, because marvel tried to solve literally global, macro-scale problems without even acknowledging the ones at home.
as sweet and technically good the ending of tfatws was, it was badly writtten, at least for bucky. marvel will never climb out of the hole, to use your words, they wrote themselves into, because of 1) the thanos storyline, snap and blip (what the fuck marvel, genuinely) 2) timeline bullshit and 3) steve leaving.
its almost like his actual character development was put on hold for tfatws. it'll be forever up in the air, with no real closure, unless everything and more that i talked about is mentioned. he'll never have the ending he actually deserves.
please do remember, characters are supposed to have arcs, not 90 degree descents into the fucking ground.

The character that I think the show ruined:
John Watson - He wasn’t ruined AT ALL but he was less impressed by Sherlock as the seasons went on
Kira Yukimura- She deserved better

Alex and I are both lazy AF
I have a temper that could rival that of Klaus
The characters that deserved better:
All of them deserve the world but I think Mycroft deserves better
Stiles and Derek deserve to be happy together
Nancy deserves better. She should be happy with Ace and not have to deal with her dad lying and the Hudsons
All of the characters deserve to be happy on Supernatural - They deserve the world, Dean , Sam and Castiel

Kira - Her character was good but I dint love her
Bess - she can be a little shallow at times
Meg- her voice annoyed me sometimes but she loved Cas
Professor Krumbs could be little mean
Sometimes I loved her and other I hated her but in the end I think she is a strong female character
A ship I’ve never been able to get into/ shouldn’t have happened:
John and Mary - She wasn’t a great wife
Derek and Baeden- I didn’t see any chemistry at all
Nick and Nancy - Even they are endgame in the books, they didn’t have any chemistry on screen
Sam and Ruby - Mostly cause she was really sus from the beginning
Justin and Rosie - He was better with Juliet
Hope and Roman - He used her and that’s horrible on such a young girl
A ship I’ve never been able to get over:
Sherlock and John whether it be friends are lovers - they are supreme
Stiles and Derek- Even though its not canon its the best ship on the show
Nancy and Ace- They haven’t gotten together yet but I love the angst
Cas and Dean whether it be friends are lovers - they are supreme
Alex and Mason - those 2 were cute
Rebekah and Marcel- It took so long for them to be together but they finally got there
A cute, low-key ship:
Sherlock and Mycroft (not romantically- ew) as the best of brothers
Scott and Alison were so soft
Nick and George are cute- they are healthy and communicate really well
Sam and Elieen
Justin and Juliet - those nerdy cuties
Davina and Kol

Sherlock tells John he is alive - that was shocking
Dark Stiles - Nigutsune
Nancy finding about her true heritage and talking to Ryan and Nace
Cas saves Dean and becomes a part of the rest of the show
Alex erases herself and her brothers in the movie
All Klaus and Hope scenes
A storyline that never should have been written:
Sherlock’s long lost sister
The whole of season 6b
The death of Owen Marvin - he didn’t deserve to die.
Dean’s final death and Sam having to live without him
Alex and Justin accidentally turn Max int a girl
The death of Klaus, Elijah and Hayley in the final season just because of legacies

He moves slowly, deliberately, giving him time to move away. When he doesn’t, he gingerly sweeps a few of the droplets away with the pad of his thumb before pressing his mouth to Johnny’s jaw, catching the tears that seem to deteriorate and melt away at the warm embrace of his lips.
Daniel and Johnny talk it out. aka, the Daniel Apologizes fic that everybody wants, including an emotionally fucked up Johnny Lawrence.  Really proud of this one! Very dialogue heavy,

~*~*~*~
“I need you to stop talking. You’re supposed to be dead.”
You stare disbelievingly at the man who showed up on your doorstep out of nowhere and is still talking like you never said a word. It’s a man you once knew very well. A man you grew up with and watched get buried next to his family. A man who is currently covered in blood, head to toe. While his face is bruised to all hell, like he willingly became someone’s personal punching bag. A man who is very clearly still alive. Your oldest and only cousin the King was standing in your kitchen like you guys do this every single week.
And the only thing he’s talking about how your fiancé isn’t who he says he is, how dangerous he is and that you are in serious danger.
“Please stop talking.” You try interrupting him again because you have no idea what the actual hell he is talking about. But like the stubborn ass he is, he just ignores you again.
“Francis, can you shut up for one second?!” Once he goes quiet, you take a much-needed deep breath and raise your hand toward his face. “Frankie, you’re alive. How are y—how is that possible? Where have you been?”
Frank walks up to you and pulls you in to his arms, squeezing you tightly. “I’m sorry kid. I know this must be a lot, but I need you to buck up and listen, yeah? I’ll explain everything later but right now I gotta keep the Princess safe.”
Holding your breath, you just leave your arms down at your sides. Not returning his hug at all because of that name.
That stupid nickname from when you were kids was confusing you, it was only used when things were extremely serious, or danger was around the corner. You had only heard it twice and both of those times were for very good reasons. The first time was when your dad was injured in his last tour over seas and Frank had come home to be the one to tell you. “Princess, I’m so sorry. Uncle, your dad, he is not coming home the same person that he left. He got hurt, real bad.” The second time was when his wife and kids were killed, and he knew someone was going after everyone close to him. “You need to get to the safe house now, Princess! I’ll explain later but I really need you to stay put until it’s safe.”
So, the fact that he is using that name, now, means something is very wrong and you finally hug him back.
You nod and stand straighter, clenching your jaw for a second. “Okay, marine. But don’t think you’re going to get out of this without explaining how you aren’t in the casket we- the casket I buried you in.” You try to fight the smile that happens when your cousin pulls away from the hug and takes the invisible crown off his head just to place it on yours.
“Wouldn’t think of it, princess. Now, like I was trying to tell you before you so rudely interrupted me – about Russo – you may want to sit down for this. It’s going to be a lot to take in.” With a single nod from you, Frank leads you over to the couch and sits on the coffee table in front of you.
A look settled over his face. It was a look that made your heart stop because it usually meant that someone died. The very last time you saw that look on him was when you were nine and Frank was the one to tell you that your mom was killed in a hit and run accident and you had to go live with him and his parents now.
Frank watched you for a couple minutes. Searching for something or just trying to find the right words to speak, you weren’t sure but whatever it was he must have figured it out.
In the next moment he is squeezing your hands once more before locking eyes with you. “Russo isn’t who he’s been pretending to be all these years.” Before you had the chance to say anything, Frank just gave you a look and you just listened to him explain what he meant.
That’s how you came to learn of the truth on the deaths of Maria and the kids and the attempted murder of your cousin. You learned about the reason behind all the killings that happened in Hells Kitchen with the gangs and in the prison. He told you everything he knew and did – like working with Micro, who had the something very similar happen to him, to take down the people who destroyed their lives, to chaining Daredevil to a roof because he was being annoying in trying to stop Frank when he was looking to ‘talk’ to the people at the carousel that day. Which you obviously scolded him for doing, after laughing for a few minutes since you now knew who Is behind the Daredevil mask, because chaining people to a roof is never a nice thing to do but Francis Castle was never nice to most people.
He told you about him taking the guns right from underneath Homeland’s nose and then stopping to pull out the agent in charge after the crash happened. You were informed that Curt knew about Frankie being alive and he had to stop you from going to Curt’s place to punch him in the nose for keeping this from you. And then finally Frank told you how your fiancé, Billy Russo, was involved in all of this.
And you cried.
You just cried and cried in his arms for well over an hour because you were too overwhelmed with all the information and a part of you couldn’t believe that Bill could do something like that to his family – to your family.
“He wouldn’t do that, Frankie. You’re wrong. Someone had to have gotten their information mixed up. Maybe Billy was another target on a list? What if it was meant to be only him that was supposed to be killed that day? You have to be wrong. You have to be.” You rambled on while tears still slid down your face.
Frank looked down at the floor and when he looked back up at you, he handed you a file that you did not even realize he had.
Through clenched teeth, he muttered, “I’m not wrong, princess. He was involved with my—with our family dying. I was supposed to die with them and according to that,” he gestured to the file in your hands. “He was going to either give you to the person he answers to as payment for something or he was going to let them come to finish off the Castle bloodline by killing you.”
Sitting there you were shocked and just staring at the closed file in your hands. You couldn’t find the strength to open it and look through the papers and read what your cousin was telling you. Frank Castle was a lot of things, but he was never a liar, so you knew without a doubt that he was being 1000 percent honest with you about what he found.
“Princess, there is one more detail that might really hurt you. It’s part of why I’m here, right now. I came as soon as I saw what was in that file.”
Loosening your grip on the folder, you let it fall to the floor as you stare at Frank’s constantly moving trigger finger. You don’t notice his other hand has moved until he places two fingers under your chin and tilts it up to look him in the eye.
“What is it?” A defeated sigh leaves your lips, “Frankie, what could possibly hurt me more than the learning that my fiancé had a part in the killings of our family, tried to have you killed more than once and is now trying to figure out the best way to deal with me? What is worse than all that?” You cry out.
Frank wipes a few tears away and squeezes your right hand. “Whatever he’s planning on doing, it’s being set up to happen on a specific date that’s coming up soon.”
“A specific date? Am I supposed to know what the hell that means? The only day that we have plans set for that is coming up is—no. Frank, please don’t tell me it—”
“It’s the 17th of October.” He pauses and squeezes your hand again. “His plan is supposed to go into motion on that day.”
A tearful smile crosses your face. “I’m going to die on the day proposed to me on?” A bitter laugh escapes you before you can stop it. “At least you can say Billy is very fucking consistent.”
Your cousin grips the back of your neck, squeezing and leans his forehead against yours. “Hey. You listen to me, yeah?” He grits out. “Don’t ever let me hear you say repeat that shit. You aren’t going to die, kid. I’ll kill every single one of them a thousand times over before they even think to lay a finger on you again, understand? We still have a while to get a plan together to get you out of here and away from him. You trust me, yeah?”
Nodding, you whisper. “Yeah, cousin. I trust you.” He nods once back at you and stands up heading back into the kitchen. You can hear him opening cabinets and the coffee machine start making noises, so you stay in your spot and just let everything settle in your head. This is way too much to handle all at once, with finding out your last family member has been alive all this time and the truth of what happened with your family. Then on top of that, learning that your fiancé, Billy fucking Russo, has been involved in all the bad shit.
Plus, now, you don’t even really know if you fell in love with a façade, he was forced to put on to keep you close for whoever he answers to or if you fell in love with the real Billy. You don’t know which would be worse at this point but either way, you were going to end up heartbroken. Now it was just a matter of if any deaths will come of it and if so, who’s death will it be?
When Frank comes back with two cups of plain black coffee you give him a small but thankful smile and take one from him. As you blow to cool it down, you realize something that makes your heart stop for the second or third time that night.
“Frank, you’re wrong.”
He takes a drink of the still boiling coffee and simply raises an eyebrow at you. Which roughly translates to, “I’m never wrong about anything but what are you talking about?”
Noticing your hands start to shake a little bit, you set the coffee down on the table and place them under your thighs. “You said we had a while to get a plan together, you’re wrong.”
“I’m not wrong, kid. It’s probably just your nerves on edge because of everything you heard today.”
You shake your head vehemently. “Frankie, you’re wrong! It’s October 15th right now which means there is a little over a day for your plan to come together before Billy comes back to get me. He told me he had a client a couple hours away to tend to but he would be back by our anniversary to take me out.”
Standing up, Frank walks over to you, pulls you up from the couch and into the bearhug that always had a way of making you feel extremely safe. “That’s plenty of time, don’t worry about it, yeah? Just go pack a bag princess, you’re going to come stay with me and Micro until this is settled.” You wrap your arms around his waist and softly agree to get some of your things together and once you’re done he grabs his duffle bag and places the file back in it and pulls you outside to a not-as-creepy-as-a-white- van and takes a route to where you will be staying for the foreseeable future.
Being at the bunker is very strange. You’ve only been here for five hours and you don’t have anything to do but worry and stress over the possibility of you dying or of Frank getting himself killed trying to protect you. So, you decide the best thing to do, instead of worrying on how you and your cousin will eventually die, is to hover behind Micro. Who, you learned is actually a guy named David Lieberman, after being there for ten minutes. The only reason you figured that out was when your cousin yelled it out as loud as possible when Micro insisted that ‘Micro’ was honestly his legal name and that was the only thing you could call him.
“You are always sucking the fun out everything, Castle. Stop being a fun-sucker.” David mumbles under his breath but loud enough you can still hear it and you let out a little snort, making him jump in his chair. “Jesus. You Castle’s are really trying to kill me, aren’t you? One with guns and the other is going to give be a damn heart attack.”
Trying and failing to stifle your laughter, you offer David some of your skittles as an apology and take a seat next to him. “I didn’t mean to scare you, Davey; I was just trying to see what you were doing and if it’s something I could learn.”
Micro raises an eyebrow at you. “You, princess of the Castle bloodline, want to learn how to do all,” he pauses to wave his hands towards all his computers, “this?”
You start to nod but that’s all you can do in reply before Frank walks over and shoves at David’s shoulder. “Shut it, Lieberman. Only I’m allowed to call her princess, yeah? And if I hear you call me a “fun-sucker” again I’m going to show you just how much fun I can be with all my new ‘toys’. Now, tell me what you have so far?”
David sends you a he is so bossy look before he starts typing and clicking on things all over his computer screens. You see some pictures of Billy pop up and it makes you flinch a little. Frank immediately notices, rolls his chair next to yours and knocks his knee against yours in the typical Castle way of saying, you’re not alone; I got you. Always.
Knocking your knee back in to his, you place your head on his shoulder and listen to David  explain that Billy has been a 15-minute drive away from you for these past three weeks he’s been “working” and that he’s at some place that Frank had been before a few weeks ago. He goes on to show blueprints to three buildings and some notes, written in Billy’s writing, that are very detailed descriptions of ways to get away with lying to someone, who was trained by a marine to spot things or people out of place.
The one thing that stands out to you is the simple two sentences at the end of each description and those two sentences break your heart a little more each time you read them over again.
“Target will be completely unarmed when taken. They trust me irrevocably, so they won’t question a thing as long as I’m there to keep them in their place.”
You know there is going to be worse things than that as David keeps showing your cousin everything he’s found, so you decide to try and get some sleep. Standing, you lean down to give Lieberman a hug and thank him for letting you stay at his secret basement, man lair. Then you hug Frank and plant a kiss on his cheek before you go lay down on the little bed he set up for you. There isn’t a way out of this situation without one of the men you love with everything in you getting hurt.
You fall asleep quickly and sleep well into the next day; you honestly think you would have slept a lot longer if it wasn’t for your cousin getting mad at something Micro said or did and was currently threatening loudly to put a bullet in his leg.
Groaning loudly, you throw your arm over your eyes and murmur, “Frankie. Shut up and leave the poor guy alone. He’s had to live with you for however long it’s been and I know how that feels. Stop threatening him and just admit you have a soft spot for your little computer wizard.”
The only thing you hear after is David laughing as loud as he could and Frank grumbling as quietly as he could.
Just as you are on the edge of falling back by listening to the two men get along, you feel a body drop gracelessly down on the end of your little bed and is constantly moving. Finally peeking your eyes open, you see Micro wiggling in place where he dropped and Frank standing right behind him. Serious and grave looks glued to their facial features and you don’t have to be Einstein to know they have a plan but it’s not the best considering how short on time you are.
As you open your mouth to ask a question, David blurts out the ‘plan’.
Not saying anything, you stare at him until he finally repeats what he just blurted out.
“He has to take you.” David mumbles, quieter than before.
You glance back and forth between David and your cousin and wait for them to continue with the master plan.
“I don’t like it, but he’s right kid.” Frank continues. “Bill’s going to arrive at your place, where you will be dressed and waiting. You said he always takes you out to dinner for your engagement anniversary, right? Then that won’t change, let him do what he normally would, the only difference this time is we will be there watching out for you. You’re going to be safe the entire time, I promise you that.” He notices your hands are twitching where they lay in your lap and he places his on top. “It’s going to be okay, kid. I did some work while you were sleeping and now there is only one route he can take to get to your favorite restaurant but he has to drive by some empty warehouses to get there and I’ll be waiting for you in the third one, alright?”
Frozen in fear of what you realize is going to happen very soon, you nod your understanding of the plan and let it play out a few times in your head before you get up to get ready.
It’s time to soldier up, princess. You hear 15-year-old Frank’s words bounce around in your head as you finish the curling the last piece of your hair and put on your lipstick. We’ve got a war to win. These words come through next once you are in the car.
You look at the time on your phone and you try to get a handle on your nerves as you arrive to the condo you live at with Billy.
“You’ll be safe, Castle Junior. You know Frank will be in the third warehouse; he has the nails set in the road so the tires will go flat quick enough that Billy will have to stop right near the third warehouse, and Frank will handle everything else. I’ll be in the sky and everywhere else keeping an eye for his team.” Sending him a thankful smile for going over everything one last time you open the door and step out. Just as your about to close it, David calls for you again.
“Princess. When I say you need to go, please don’t ignore it. You may have met me for the first time yesterday, but it feels like I’ve known you as long as Frank has with all the stories he told me and neither of us can lose another person to these people.” You nod once and take a step back again, waiting to see if he says what you already know. When he doesn’t, you close the door and turn around to head into the building.
And that’s when you hear the motor of the window and his voice following you up the sidewalk.
“You may not get to say ‘goodbye’ to him, CJ. Don’t jeopardize your life to give him one.”
Not turning back to face the van, you tilt your head to the side to show you heard him. You wait there, unmoving, until you hear the van pull away before you take a shaky breath, steel your nerves once more and continue inside to what was once your home.
~~~~~~~
It is about two hours later when you are back on the road. You had dinner with your fiancé, talked about the future like you normally would, shared dessert, took pictures on your usual walk around the park. It was a normal anniversary celebration night. You were back in the SUV and on your way home when you realize you are nearing the stretch of road with all the warehouses. And a small part of you starts to feel the dread coming.
You frown at Billy when you notice he has his phone in his hand. “Hey, y’know it’s dangerous to text and drive, Bill? I wouldn’t want my fiancé to get arrested on our anniversary.” Billy chuckles and puts his phone back in his pocket. He pats your thigh twice before focusing back on the road.
Looking out the front windows you see the warehouses getting closer and your nerves spike. You start thinking about the worst-case scenarios and just as your about to call Micro, you see it. The smallest glint on the wall of one of the warehouses, that could be assumed to be made by the moonlight, but you knew better.
And that is when you hear a pop and Billy lets out a curse. “Sorry, baby. It’s probably just one of the tires going flat. I’ll get it fixed though, you just stay in the car, okay?” Nodding your head, you wait until you hear the car door shut before you look closer at the building. Looking for something other than the small glint on the wall and sure enough, you notice a shadow standing on the roof of the building.
It is not noticeable unless you were really looking for something that doesn’t belong. The only reason you were able to see it was the glint, which was the drone hovering over the shadow.
You knew without a shadow of a doubt that Frank had his face painted, vest on, at least three weapons on him and one near the entrance of the building where you are supposed to head towards – he’s ready for a war.
And as nervous, heartbroken and confused as you feel – so are you.
Within the first minute of Billy getting the spare tire out of the back of the SUV, he makes a joke about how this is a perfect place for an ambush. You knew it was a joke that he didn’t want you to hear because there was absolutely no reason for either of you to be ambushed. But you can tell by his body language, he’s not sure if he should be worried or not. When you climb out of the car, you can see that he’s trying to laugh it off.
Billy looks at you, with a question on the tip of his tongue when you both hear a noise from inside the warehouse.
As Billy pulls out his phone, he looks over at you and yells, “baby, get back in the car now! Stay there and stay hidden until I come back for you!” You don’t move, just stare at him as he sends a couple messages out and when he realizes, he begins to yell again.
That is until Frank jumps down on the wooden crates right in front of the car and suddenly, all hell breaks loose.
You turn to run towards the entrance, where you knew Frank had hid the other gun and where you’d be safe, but the second Billy sees it’s Frank standing there all geared up, your fiancé immediately rushes to stand between you and his old best friend. It confuses you for a second and that split second is what causes your mind to spiral into the questions you avoided thinking about.
Why is he protecting you now? Why was he involved with what happened to your family? How did he get involved in all this? Why didn’t he stop it? If he was scared why didn’t he tell Frank or you or anyone else? Why did he do it at all? Why did he propose when he knew that the Castle’s were the only family you had, and he took that all away – from both of you? Why is he doing this now? Why didn’t frank come to you sooner? Why you? Why is he trying to break the last few pieces of your heart by not owning up to his plan of handing you over to his boss or killing you? Why in the hell do you still love him knowing everything he’s done and plans to do?
You don’t realize you were mumbling some of these questions until Billy turns around and faces you with a stunned look and an angry glint in his eyes. And now you are face to face with the man who has the blood of your family on his hands. The man who is trying to convince you everything your cousin has told you is a lie.
Billy is begging you to believe him. “Tesoro. C’mon, please don’t tell me you actually believe him? He’s been lying to you for months about not actually being dead! How can you believe him that I was apart of what happened to your family?” When you don’t say anything he shakes his head and a long sigh escapes his lips. “Okay, I haven’t been completely honest about this but neither has he, baby. Your cousin knew about what happened to Maria and the kids because he helped set it up! He didn’t want to give up killing when we came back from our last tour. He got addicted to it and he knew they would hold him back from doing what he wanted. That’s the truth.”He HH
He grabs your left hand and runs his thumb over your engagement ring. “This, right here baby, should show you who is on your side.” Pulling your hand out of his, you feel a tear fall down your face as you take a step back. You see the moment Billy realizes he’s already lost you and that’s when he grabs your face and kisses you hard, trying to make a statement, trying to bring you back to him. Shoving him back you realize you’re full on crying and mumbling repeatedly, “why, why, why?”
Your fiancé leans to grab you again and Frank finally gets Billy’s attention again. Frank hasn’t said a single word since this whole thing started playing out. The only thing he does is aim his gun right at Bill’s head the minute Billy starts whispering something to you in Italian. As your brain registers what he’s said, you start crying harder than before and stumble back against the car.
“You aren’t telling her the truth, Bill. Tell her what you did!” Frank spits out. “Tell her how you were going to give her over to Agent Orange once you got home! Yeah. I know about it all. I know everything that you’ve been doing and every pot you have your hands in. Tell the woman you love, the woman you proposed too, tell my baby cousin how you planned her death out, Russo!”
Billy starts shaking his head back and forth. Talking about things that don’t make sense and when he mentions the steak and ribs dinner he loves to have; you know what’s happening.
You sense, more than feel, Bill move to grab the gun from his belt before you drop the knife from your sleeve and hold it to his neck. “You’re stalling, micio,” you say hoarsely. “Please don’t do anything stupid and just do what Frankie says.”
Billy laughs, it’s one you’ve never heard before and you can see a darkness in his eyes that was never there before. “C’mon, anima mia, put that down. You aren’t going to use it. You’ll only hurt yourself or if Frankie boy keeps aiming that gun at me, I could kill you with it before he gets one shot off.”
With a tearful laugh, you shake your head in slight disappointment. “Bill, please. Please just stop this. I-I- I will do this, you know that. You know I’ll hurt you if I have to because you are the one who trained me for this exact situation,” you murmured. “Granted, you swore it would probably be a random stranger or someone who wanted to go after you, so you made me train for weeks upon weeks until you thought I was good enough. I was your secret weapon, remember?”
Bill moves suddenly and you let the training he gave you kick in as you slice across his chest before you stab it into his shoulder. The way you moved gave Frank an opening and you heard the gun go off four times. You completely expected the shots to be in his chest but they there was one in each of his legs and two in his gut.
There was a lot of blood and Billy wasn’t moving. But neither were you. Frank was still giving him the chance to tell you the truth but it was like time had stopped.
You were staring at his shoulder. At the knife Frankie got you before he left to his last deployment, sticking out of your fiancé’s shoulder. You were numb. Nothing was really registering in your head, you still couldn’t believe Billy was part of this whole thing to begin with.
You didn’t realize you were still crying and you completely forgot you weren’t alone with your slowly dying fiancé until you felt a hand softly touch your shoulder before your cousin turned you away from Billy’s body.
“I’m sorry this happened, princess. I didn’t want to get you involved in this,” He pulls you in to a hug and you grip onto his arms. “But you deserved to know, and I knew if our positions were switched you would have told me too.”
Frank’s phone went off and he answered it while you still clung to him. You weren’t really paying attention to his words because he shifted his stance and now you were again staring at Billy from over his shoulder. Only this time his eyes were open and it looked like he was trying to speak while reaching out for you.
Frank tightened his grip around you and kissed the side of your head. “C’mon kid, we gotta go, yeah? His back up is about seven minutes out.”
You nodded once and let Frankie start leading you away before something in you forced you to stop and run back to where Billy laid. Your cousin didn’t try to stop you, he knew this was the only closure you could get so he let you go. Dropping to your knees you grab Billy’s hand and lean your forehead against his. “I’m sorry,” you croak and squeeze your eyes shut and try to get your breathing under control. “Ti amo, più di ogni altra cosa, mio amore. Sempre.”
You hear Frank’s phone ring again and his gruff voice calls out, “princess, I hate to do this but we gotta go now. That was a two-minute warning.”
You nod not caring if he is looking as you stare into Billy’s eyes for a second before you place one last kiss on his lips.
You get up and run to Frank’s side as he heads towards the exit. You turn your head as you get to the door and then your hand is in Frank’s as he pulls you along to the van where David was waiting. There was no other sound other than both of your footsteps on gravel and the lingering echo of the final words to your fiancé.
“Maybe in another lifetime, goodbye my love.”
What you didn't hear as you ran towards safety was someone running through the building or Billy's reply as the person applied pressure to his wounds.
"In every lifetime, I’m yours. I'll find you again in this one, my love, and I will get you back."
endgame rant
SPOILERS AHEAD PLEASE AVOID IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT YET
yeah i know i said i wouldn’t post spoiler shit but listen i gotta get this off my chest ok
i have some REAL BIG FUCKING ISSUES with the way the russos handled a lot of plotlines. don’t get me wrong, this movie was amazing and epic and fucking award worthy, but as a fan i’ve taken offense to a Lot of things.
clint
nothing about his ronin story makes a lick of fucking sense in the mcu. his family is dusted so he…… goes on a mass murdering spree??? decides that he should get a haircut and spend the next five years getting an edgy tattoo sleeve??? um. okay then. destroy the past like 10 years of his character having one of the best moral compasses of the entire team. why did he take up using a fucking SWORD in present day? do you know how long it takes to master swordsmanship at the level he was? with at least half of the world’s teachers gone? more than five fucking years thats for damn sure. and between him and natasha dying for the soul stone? it should have been him. i know he had a family and all but listen. nat went through physical and psychological torture. her body was modified against her will. she was brainwashed and used. and finally, FINALLY she gets free of it all, finds a family in the avengers, and continues to try and better herself to make up for things that weren’t even her fault to begin with. and clint? what did he suffer? oh thats right. nothing. he’s just damn good at his job and loves his family. the fact he has a family sucks for sacrifice, but they are well taken care of and every single one of his kids are old enough to understand AND nat would have stepped in immediately as a parental figure to help laura. they fucking fridged nat for clint and i will never forgive that.
thor
here we go. thor’s character legit made me uncomfortable. they went way overboard with the new thor personality. but… fatshaming and making fun of his very real depression and ptsd?? wtf russos. like, haha he let himself go so funny but its NOT. he wasn’t even like…. fat, for one. just a normal dadbod and beer belly. which by the way seems a lot more realistic according to most norse myths of the gods. they were warriors, yeah, but they drank a fucking lot and feasted a fucking lot so. anyway. thor has lost his entire family. not only that but he watched them all die. he saw his mother bleed out. he watched his father disperse into nothingness. he watched the brother he has loved and cherished no matter the amount of times of betrayal and misdeeds get his neck snapped and his lifeless body thrown to the ground. and then the sister he never knew he had killing almost all of your people and then being forced to find a way to kill her. can you imagine trying to cope with that??? and when you put his age into our perspective, he’s only in his 20s. so imagine seeing your whole family die before you’re even 25, then taking on the responsibility of ruling your people. said surviving people are then massacred in front of you with only a few dozen escaping. THEN living with the guilt of blowing your chance to kill the man responsible for that and unable to stop him from decimating half the universe. (and even when he does get revenge on him, it’s too late) tell me you wouldn’t have an atomic level meltdown. thor is suffering so much and all they can do is make fun of him for it and shame him for it. he deserved better.
steve
yall know i don’t like steve. i don’t hate him and i’m not anti-steve, i’ve just never enjoyed his rather inconsistent character and self-righteousness. it felt like we were FINALLY getting a steve i could get behind in this. a steve that swears like he should. a steve who still puts on a brave face for the public but behind closed doors with friends he’s miserable and broken like the rest of them and SHOWS it to them. a steve who realizes he is stuck in the past and just can’t seem to move forward. a steve who i can finally see the culmination of EVERYTHING he’s been through resting on his shoulders and eating him alive inside. finally we were getting a properly layered steve rogers. and then tony came back and that all fell apart. we didn’t get the apology steve owed him (and tbh tony owed him one too but we’ll get to that), we didn’t get a remorseful steve. he didn’t even address the goddamn issue. he went straight back to his bullshit. admittedly he was a better listener this time around and a far better team player overall. it wasn’t a total loss. but. BUT. his ending? no. hell fucking no. i’m happy he and peggy got their life, but it still shouldn’t have happened. how fucking selfish. how fucking backwards of his character. i get he didn’t have a choice in being brought back into the present and that is unfair and sucks for him, but what fucking right did he have to mess with a timeline like that? what right did he have to just decide without telling anyone he was done and giving up? why did he get the fucking happy ending???? steve rogers who looked tony in the eyes and said he wasn’t the kind of man to lay on the wire for someone copped out. steve rogers who knows of all the social progress we’ve made decides to go back to a time where he would be forced to accept segregation and extreme gender inequality and rampant, blatant, gross racism of all sorts oh and more war and alkjdalksdhkas NO plus they broke their own time travel rules so like whatever i guess right?? it’s okay if steeb gets his stupid happy ending right? god is it SO MUCH TO ASK FOR JUST ONCE TO HAVE A GOOD CHARACTERIZATION OFCAP???? it’s not your fault cevans honey you’re doing amazing your directors just have no fucking idea
tony
frankly this has been amongst rdj’s best performances of tony. i’m still partial to a lot of his acting in the iron man movies BUT this was FANTASTIC. him finally being allowed to absolutely go off on steve was fucking delicious and everything i was waiting for. let it all out tony baby. buuuuut we should have also had something more. i know my fellow tony stans typically don’t believe it but tony was wrong in civil war too. surprise they both fucking were. ANYWAY. i was waiting for an honest apology between them both. after everything they just went through, NONE of the petty bullshit they went through before matters at all. and yet the closest thing we get is tony just being like “turns out i don’t like to hold grudges” or what the fuck ever. why is it so hard just to make one of them say i’m sorry, the other say i’m sorry, admit it was a bunch of BULLSHIT hug it out and then go forward???? ugh. their choice to make tony suddenly care about his dad and be happy to see him???? disgusting. they made it canon that howard was an abuser, neglectful, cold, and hateful. it’s been a BIG DEAL how tony has struggled with the relationship to his dad because of how shitty the man was to him. and then they do tHAT? fuuuuCK that!!!! i’m not saying tony isn’t allowed to forgive howard. thats fine and expected tbh. but they pushed it way too far. the tony stark we’ve known for the last decade would never get all giddy and happy to see him and hug him and fucking thank him??? what the fuckk?? god that was gross. you know what we should have gotten? what tony deserved more than howard fucking stark? MARIA STARK!! and then, of course, my main issue. they fucking killed him. which only tells us, the audience and fans that no matter what you suffer and sacrifice that your only way to redemption is death. jesus fucking christ i am SO angry over this. they killed the two who suffered the fucking most. the two who every single goddamn day worked on being a better person. nat and tony both deserved so much better than waht they got. how the fuck did it make sense to kill tony who now has a fucking CHILD, who still has a future, who FINALLY FOR ONCE IN HIS FUCKING LIFE FOUND A SHRED OF PEACE????? and then let steve just go selfishly galavant through time as he pleases to have the cute happy ending? FUCK that ending. fuck it right up the ass with a huge unlubed cock. steve should have been the one to use the gauntlet. period. he should have been the one to die like that. i would have still fucking cried but you know what?? that would be the most cap thing ever. i wanted a mirror of pre-serum steve jumping on that grenade, but this time grabbing the gauntlet and not hesitating for a split second to snap. but no. they killed tony who left behind a wife who DESERVED MORE THAN HAVING THE MAN SHES LOVED AND SUPPORTED AND MARRIED AND HAS A CHILD WITH RIPPED AWAY FROM HER!!! tony who left behind a daughter too young to really comprehend yet why her daddy isn’t going to be coming back. fuck you russos. the injustice of it is astounding. i’m never going to get over it. you know how they could have killed tony? if they really felt like they needed to? have him grow old and die naturally of old age with pepper in their cute little lakeside house after watching morgan grow into such a strong and brilliant person. but oh. they gave that to steve. right.
stephen
i’ll never complain about having more stephen content but uhhhh i’m gonna complain that we didn’t get more than what we got cause after sitting in the soulworld for five fucking years you canNOT tell me he didn’t get even stronger with time to practice and meditate and work through every iota of information of mystical shit in his head. and yet they sidelined him??? after we’ve SEEN what he’s capable of in IW? just gonna put him on flood control???? something that any of those goddamn sorcerers could have done while he helps wipe the floor with thanos or any of the thousands of enemies? fuuuuuuuuuck that. can you fucking imagine how quickly thanos would have been taken out if it were wanda, carol, and stephen all three against him? jesus. he’s literally amongst the most powerful people but nah, just have him stand over there.
the gay russo
FUCK you for that. i am LIVID about it. yall can’t fucking make valkyrie bi???? or carol????? yall can’t GET AN ACTUAL GAY ACTOR? “ We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that. “ WHAT????????? are you fucking telling me a WOC WHO IS OUT AS BISEXUAL AND WANTS HER CHARACTER TO BE BISEXUAL COULDNT ENSURE THE INTEGRITY OF AN LGBT CHARACTER???????????????? “ It is a perfect time, because one of the things that is compelling about the Marvel Universe moving forward is its focus on diversity.”  SEE PREVIOUS COMMENT????? oh my god fuck them forever.
lets make rules for our time travel then break them immediately
idek whats going on in the timeline anymore. they utterly fucked up and BROKE the timeline of 2012 avengers after letting loki get away with the tesseract. which should have cascaded into their future but, well, it didn’t. so i GUESS now we’re just pretending that made a new timeline which makes no goddamn sense but whatever i guess. steve going back to completely fuck with his timeline, or a timeline at least, and having no consequences in the future besides being old. okay. sure??? we can do all that but we can’t fucking get natasha back. right. cool. okay.
anyway i’m sure theres more bugging me but these are the things bothering me most.
and frankly i don’t care if anyone disagrees i’m not arguing or debating any of this.
Hello!
BIG NEWS PEOPLE! Our Will Read For Booze twitter account (formerly Sam’s personal account) is going to be dedicated to the whole blog! So go check us out kthxxxx. While that’s amazing, Sam has to start from scratch on a new account, let’s show her some love huh? Check out her new account TheBooktender_  She’ll love you forever and ever.
Minda’s Updates
Goal for the rest of this year is to only read books I think I would enjoy and continue to be into. Working through something I don’t care for is just exhausting, and pregnancy is enough of that.
What Minda is reading now:
The Power by Naomi Alderman – In this world, teen women have the power to inflict pain—lots of it. I read a description of the book somewhere and picked it up from the library immediately. Looking to finish this then pivot to Tome Topple this weekend.
What Minda DNF’d:
HEIST by Kezzy Sparks – I FINALLY GAVE UP ON THIS THANK GOODNESS. I really tried to read it, but I can’t. It’s just basically one long poorly handled dick joke that isn’t very funny. And used the line, “guys will be guys, you know that.” Um, no.
Ginny’s Updates:
Hey Everyone!
The Nationals won the WORLD SERIES!!!!! I’m still ridiculously excited. Sam and I went to the parade and it was GREAT! Also that’s a lot of exclamation marks and caps, so back to normal. I’m so excited to get my evenings back and get to a normal sleeping schedule. So pumped.
What Ginny’s currently reading:
Lady Cop Makes Trouble by Amy Stewart: I read the first book in this series a forever ago and final decided to pick up the sequel. Constance is yet again dealing with the misogyny of the era, which is not great. But a convict escapes during a blackout and it’s kind of her fault. So she’s off on her own trying to find him. I find myself still really frustrated with her “sisters.” But really enjoy the other characters that appear in this book.
Wicked Fox by Kay Cho: Gonna be honest, I haven’t picked up this book since last week. There’s been so much going on and my evenings haven’t been quite my own.
Scrum by Jeff Sutherland: Same as above. Haven’t even touched this.
What Ginny finished:
Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh: This if the 7th book in the Psy-Changeling series. And hoo boy was this one not my jam. There was some major abuse vibes coming off of this book mostly in that the main character seemed to be taking advantage of a woman with amnesia. That’s shitty. Also the descriptions that work really well for a Changeling feel very weird when it’s a human expressing them. 1.8/5
Chimes at Midnight by Seanan McGuire: Number 7 in the Toby Daye series. God this series just keeps getting better. Toby may have pissed off the queen of the land she lives in and suddenly has to race against a deadline to try to make sure she doesn’t get exiled. Gonna be a review.
Any Old Diamonds by K.J. Charles: I’ve heard so much about this author from the other authors I follow and boy was it a good recommendation to follow. The story was unique and fun and had a few genuinely unexpected twists. Alec is trying to get revenge on his shitty Dad and uses thief Jerry to get it. They immediately have tension which rackets up nicely. 4/5
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Siilvia Moreno-Garcia: I read this for book club. The book has the feeling of a Hades-Persephone story but surrounded by early 1900’s Mexico. Which is pretty glorious. I felt the book could be a little flat, but as we discussed in book club, that’s kind of how lore just is. 3.5/5
Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh: This is the 8th book in the Psy-Changeling series and I’m kind of glad I read it immediately after the previous one because this was so much better! This is a true detective story with a relationship that sizzles and doesn’t seem abusive. Max Shannon, a cop, and Sophia Russo, a J-Psy who can copy and share memories, are on the hunt for a killer. This book was just crazy fun with plenty of chemistry. 5/5
Sam’s Updates
THE NATS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! We watched it all, the ups, the downs, and the mightiest of wins. Ginny and I went to the parade which was amazing (and cold), I also took my first mental health day in 6 months and it was amazing…
What Sam read this week:
Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore: So this is a story of a family that always has 5 girls, 5 cousins. The men that spawn these women disappear, so it’s always the women. 5 ladies, 5 mothers, 5 Grandmas (abuelas), when suddenly a boy appears. He has no memories. The ending of this wasn’t predictable at all, but I really really liked it. It’s a story of love and loss and joy and pain and HISTORY. How the land remembers the horrors that were inflicted on it. I really liked it. 3.5/5
Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan: This is the sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire which i didn’t…. love… but also didn’t hate. Welp, I was right, tons of miscommunication between relationships, which I hated. But there were a couple new characters who I ah-dored. Will be doing a full drunk review of this one.
What Sam DNF’d
Epoca: The Tree of Ecrof by Kobe Bryant (creator) and Ivy Claire (written by): Yeah, you read that right. Kobe Bryant created this story. While at BookCon this year, we came across this small publishing house he created. Apparently, he loves making stories but doesn’t have time to write them out in full, so he builds the world, names the characters, plots it out, and hands it off to his author of choice to finish it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this one. BUT DONT FRET! It’s not that it wasn’t good, it just wasnt for me. In this story, the magic is sports magic, which is cool. The characters seem like they’ll be fun, but while I love sports, I don’t love them this much.
What Sam’s currently reading:
The Kingdom of Gods by N.K. Jemisin: This is the final installment to the Inheritance trilogy. Seems to be about Sia. Listening on audio so we’ll see how it goes.
Ashlords by Scott Reitgen: This is Scott’s next series after Nyxia and I am READY for it. I’m really early on, but basically, it’s fire horse racing. FIRE. HORSE. RACING. I cannot fuckin wait.
  Linz’s Updates
What Linz read:
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire: I don’t even know how to describe what I just read but it was real weird and real good and I am very happy I took a break from assigned reading to pick this up
Queen of Ruin by Tracy Banghart: The second half of the Grace and Fury duology. Spoiler alert, THOROUGHLY satisfying.
What Linz is currently reading:
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo: My diligent stalking of the digital library sites have paid off; I recommended it at the right time and was like #2 on the waitlist. Bardugo’s first novel for the grown and sexy is REAL dark, part..ghost story? and part many mysteries? and I am HERE FOR IT.
House of Salt and Sorrow by Erin Craig: The problem with working from home sometimes is that my office is where my books live, and the pretty copy from Owlcrate kept staring at me. This VERY much reimagining of the 12 dancing princesses is kinda weird and also dark and also I am enjoying it. If I didn’t have 15 other things going on, I probably would have tried to finish this over the weekend.
Until next time, we main forever drunkenly yours,
Sam, Ginny, Linz, and Minda
“Cool, calm and collected.” You repeated the mantra out loud as you stared at your reflection in the mirror. “Cool, calm and collected.”
Karen put her phone aside and sat up in the bed to look at you.
“You have nothing to worry about,” she said and you rolled your eyes.
“Easy for you to say, your leg length equals my whole height.”
“Exaggerate, why won’t you?”
You let out a breath and touched your hair, careful not to mess it up.
“Stop,” Karen got off the bed and came over to peck you on the cheek, “He’s gonna die when he sees you.”
“So far, he’s only seen me in aprons and printed shirts so he might not recognize me.”
Karen raised her brows.
“I just-“ You heaved a sigh and made your way to your bed, then plopped down, “I don’t even know the guy well! I shouldn’t be freaking out, but he’s so-“ You flexed your fingers, “Ugh!”
As if on cue, your phone started ringing and you looked up, your breath getting caught in your throat.
“Karen-“ You motioned at the phone, “Karen, he’s calling.”
“Yeah?”
“What- what do I do?!”
“You pick up the phone.” Karen’s voice had the same tone as a patient kindergarten teacher’s, and you gulped, looking down at the phone, then took a deep breath and hit answer.
“Hey,” You said breathlessly “Let me guess, aliens invaded Anvil, so you can’t make it.”
“No actually, it’s a killer robot attack.”
“You should call the Avengers.”
“I don’t really like those guys.”
“So you’ll take them down by yourself?” You asked “Billy Russo, former Special Forces soldier, present CEO of Anvil, professional suit wearer and killer robot slayer.”
“Even you gotta admit, it has a nice ring to it.”
You giggled, “Hi again.”
“Hi,” he said, “You ready?”
“Um, sure,” You pressed a hand over your chest, “Just text me the address, I’ll get an Uber.”
“I’m here.”
You frowned slightly “Where?”
“Outside.”
“Outside of…?”
“Your apartment.”
“You’re outside my apartment?!” You asked and Karen’s eyes widened, then she walked to the window, careful not to be seen through the curtains. “Billy, they will steal your car and your fancy suit in this neighborhood.”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure someone is breaking into the liquor store as we speak,” he muttered and you shook your head,
“You’re looking for trouble.”
“I can handle trouble,” he said, “And I’ve been in worse places.”
You slowly walked towards the window and looked through the curtains to see the very expensive looking, jet black sports car. You gawked at it for a couple of seconds, then turned to Karen who just made a face.
“Okay, I’m coming down.” You hung up and turned to Karen.
“Why do I feel like a girl on her prom?”
“Beats me, you didn’t even have sex in your prom.”
All of a sudden, you felt your head spin and you gawked at her,
“I-I’m not gonna have sex with him on the first date!” You lowered your voice even if you were only two people in the room, “Do you think he expects that?”
“Maybe hopes?”
“Oh my God, do you think that’s why he came to pick me up? For car sex?!”
Karen let out a clear laugh and pushed you towards the door,
“Go!”
“Are you gonna be here when I get back?”
Karen shook her head, “I’m meeting Foggy and Matt, we’re gonna hit the bar. But come by my place after you’re done? I’m way too excited to wait until tomorrow.”
You nodded as you put on your shoes. Karen’s house wasn’t so far from your house –only she lived in a way better neighborhood- so it wasn’t that unusual to stay at each other’s apartment or dropping by in the late hours, since you had each other’s keys.
“I’ll call you!” You pecked her on the cheek, “Don’t forget to lock the door when you leave!”
“Will do!”
You closed the door behind you, and went downstairs, then pushed open the door and walked out of the building to see him leaning against his car. Contrary to how you had seen him so far, he wasn’t wearing a suit, but instead he was wearing a gray sweater and black jeans, and a leather jacket, all of which fit his body extremely well. For a split second you got worried whether your outfit was on point, but all of the worries disappeared when he gave you the classical up and down look guys seemed to do a lot and a mischievous smile pulled at his lips.
“Wow.”
You pushed a strand of hair behind your ear, smiling shyly,
“Thanks. And hey- Look at you, suit’s gone.”
He chuckled, nodding. “Yeah. And the coat.”
“I can see that.” You said as he opened the door for you and you got in the car. “You really didn’t need to come to pick me up, I-“
“Could get an Uber,” he finished the sentence for you, and started the car as you put your seatbelt on. You looked around the car, it looked like one of those cars you had only seen in fancy galleries so far. “I did tell you I would make up for the last night though.”
You stole a look at his handsome features and tried to ignore how fast your heartbeat was, so you tried to distract yourself.
“So what- where are we going?”
“Well, you said not too many forks.”
“Yeah I don’t wanna go through that Titanic moment,” you said, “I’d be Jack and you’d be Rose, but still”
Billy raised his brows but kept his eyes on the road, fighting off a small smile.
“But you didn’t say anything about other utensils.”
“Other utensils.”
“Yeah.”
“…Ikea?” You tried to guess, making him chuckle.
“Guess again.” He said as he pulled over in front of a restaurant and you looked at the neon sign, and your heart dropped to your stomach.
“Chinese.”
“Chinese,” he nodded “Not a place where rich assholes hang out.”
You hissed in a breath silently as he opened the door and got out, then opened your door. You got out of the car, not knowing whether to thank him or not, considering no one had opened your car doors or anything before.
Not even on your prom.
Where you didn’t get laid.
Okay. Let’s take bed options off the table for a second.
 “Um- Okay, before we actually get a table I have a confession to make.” You turned on your heels and looked up at him. “And I feel like it’s very crucial for…for the rest of the night.”
He frowned for a second, “Okay?”
“…I don’t really know how to use chopsticks.”
He seemed surprised, but only for a second before he guided you to a table and pulled your chair. “It’s pretty easy, I can teach you.”
“Okay,” You nodded, trying to ignore the insecure voice in your mind and watched as he sat down, “So you- you come here a lot?”
“I heard it from a friend- well, friend of a friend.” He said, “Want me to order for you?”
You nodded fervently, “Yes please, I have no clue about what to eat.” You let out a laugh and he grinned,
“You like duck?”
“I’ve never eaten duck.”
Billy looked up from the menu, “Really?”
“I have this thing when I go to restaurants I order whatever is cheapest in the menu, so that rules out duck.”
He shot you an amused look, and ordered some foods from the menu and gave the menu back to the waiter, then turned to you, making your heart skip a beat,
“Okay, ready?” he asked, separating his chopsticks from each other and you bit on your lip, then did the same.
“Let’s do this, tutor with a suit.”
“So you put one here.” He showed you, “Middle finger and thumb, and you will balance it.”
“Okay.” You followed his instructions and he nodded,
“Then you put the second one here.” He said and when you couldn’t, he reached over, “Let me show you.”
As soon as his long fingers touched yours, you felt your heart skip a beat. It was as if an electric current had spread from his fingers to your hand, and from your hand to your whole body. His skin felt hot against yours, and both you and he paused for a second.
Was it possible that you weren’t the only one who felt the current?
He slowly pulled his hand back, as if he was hesitating already and you found yourself yearning for his touch as soon as it was gone.
“There you go,” his voice was deeper and lower now, and you moved the chopsticks in your hand, trying to regulate your breathing.
“Thanks,” you tried to laugh, “Jesus, is there anything you’re bad at?”
“Showing up to first dates.”
You scoffed, “Oh yeah. Or behaving like us poor people.”
“Us poor people?” he chuckled, “Easy there Oliver Twist.”
“Oh wow, you read? Or do you pay someone to read for you?”
“Do you read or are you too poor to buy books?”
You clicked your tongue, grinning, “Well played, guy with twenty coffees. My coworkers hate you by the way.”
“The uh…” he tried to find her name, “That girl seemed to like me.”
“Vicky likes anyone who’s handsome.” You waved a hand in the air and he leaned in slightly.
“Oh so I’m handsome?” he asked “I thought I wasn’t ‘half as cute as I think I am’”
“I’m using my right to remain silent.” You felt your cheeks burn “That being said, she is really serious about a male relative.”
He shrugged slightly, “I don’t have any relatives.”
All of a sudden it dawned on you and you covered your mouth, cussing yourself in your head. “Jesus, I’m sorry. I can be so-“
He waved a hand dismissively, “Don’t worry about it.” he assured you, “How about you?”
“I um… My parents live in Chicago. I lived there until I decided to move to New York.”
“Why did you move here?”
You shrugged, “Well, I- I wanted to get away,” You cleared your throat, “Me and my brother, we… we don’t really talk anymore, and staying there.. It was too much.”
“Harsh.”
“It was,” You confessed, “Not as much now. I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have Karen. When I first moved here, I didn’t know anyone, neither did she, so we sort of… Hit it off right away.” You stopped talking when the waiter came with the food and placed them on the table.
“You’re gonna want to stay away from this one.” He pointed at tiny green cream at the corner of the plate, “Very spicy.”
“Oh I’m good with spices.”
“No, Y/N, you’re gonna burn yourself-“
“Come on, I’m sure your taste palate is very sensitive, rich people problems-“ you dipped the piece of chicken into the cream, “I happen to eat a lot of cheap food, which tends to be spicy-“
“Y/N-“
You put the chicken into your mouth, chewed on it, but when you realized Billy was right, it was way too late and you had already swallowed it. The burning exploded from your throat and you coughed.
“Oh God-“
“What was it about my taste palate again?”
“Jesus Christ Almighty, I’m fucking dying-“ You motioned at the water and grabbed the glass, then took big gulps of water, wiping your eyes, and looked up at Billy, who was trying his hardest not to burst into a laughter.
“Not. One. Word.”
The rest of the date seemed to go way too fast for your liking. Before you knew, you were already feeling warm and fuzzy the alcohol and you didn’t know whether the reason of your head’s spinning was alcohol or Billy himself. You could only hope that he was at least as half entertained as you were by the date, because by now, your hormones had already taken over.
You unbuckled your seatbelt and turned to look at him, your heart beating in your ears and licked your lips involuntarily.
“Here we are,” he said and you nodded,
“Yeah,” You said breathlessly, “Home sweet home.”
A silence fell upon you and you gulped,
“Thanks.” You said slowly “For tonight.”
“Anytime.” He murmured and you stared at him for a couple of seconds, it had to be illegal to look this good under the poor lighting of the street and cars. The question of whether he would kiss you or not –whether he would want to or not- kept flashing in your head as bright as neon lights and even if you were hit by the urge to kiss him, you were way too scared, so you cleared your throat, stealing a look outside.
“I should-um-“ You motioned at the window and he nodded as if he was hypnotized, but then managed to pull himself together.
“Good night.”
You tried to smile “Good night.” You whispered and pushed open the door, then got out of the car. Trying not to dance your way back, you walked into the building, climbed the stairs and unlocked your door, pressing a hand over your chest, trying to calm yourself down.
“Oh God…” You muttered, leaning your head back to the door, “Oh wow.”
You fished your phone out of your purse, kicking off your heels and made your way to the bathroom. You looked at yourself in the mirror, touching the back of your hand to your cheeks to ease the burning, but before you could find Karen’s phone number in your contacts, someone knocked on your door, making you frown. You checked the time on your phone, then walked to the door, looked through the peephole, and swung the door open.
“Billy?”
He pulled you to him, his hands cradling your head and he held you there for a long, torturing second as the hope filled your system faster than any other drug could. When his lips touched yours, you felt like you would fall to the ground if he wasn’t holding you as tight as he was, one hand sneaking down to the small of your back and pressing you to his hard body. Your hand went to his hair, gripping at it and you stood on your tiptoes as he deepened the kiss, his thumb caressing your pulse point on your neck before he pulled back, making you almost stumble.
You tried to catch your breath as he looked down at you, pupils dilated so much that you could hardly tell the difference from his dark irises before he licked his lips, then bent down to lift something from the floor.
Your vacuum flask.
You couldn’t help but to smile as he handed it to you with a boyish smile on his reddened lips.
“Have a good night,” he said hoarsely before walking away, leaving you there completely dumbfounded, staring at the wall for a couple of seconds before you pulled yourself together and closed the door with a click, smiling so wide that it almost hurt.
“Oh my God…” You threw the flask to the couch and ran to the bathroom, found Karen’s number and took the phone to your ear with shaky hands.
“Hello?”
“He kissed me!” You exclaimed “Karen- he kissed me!”
You could hear her laugh as you paced in the small bathroom, touching your burning lips.
“Was he any good at least? To make up for his personality?”
“I’m freaking the fuck out, he- Karen-“
“Phone call isn’t gonna cut it, we’re still outside,” Karen cut you off, “Matt and Foggy say hi by the way- wanna come here?”
You nodded absentmindedly, running your fingertips on your lips,
“Y-Yeah.”
“We’re at Josie’s, hurry! I wanna hear about the fancy guy’s kissing skills, asap.”
She hung up and you tried to calm your wild heartbeat down, shedding your dress and pulling your hair into a ponytail before grabbing a tshirt and jeans from your chair, you got into them as fast as you could and walked out of the apartment.
The chill air seemed to help your burning cheeks, but not your heartbeat. Adrenaline was still roaring through your system as you looked down at your phone, trying to decide whether to text him or not. You bit on your lip, still tasting him, and typed in Tease, your finger hovering over the send button before someone grabbed you by the ponytail and pulled you into a dark alley, slamming your head onto the nearest wall.
The panic crashed through you as you opened your mouth to scream, the pounding in your head was almost blinding as the warm blood ran down your forehead and the guy threw a punch at your face, his fist colliding your lip and it shoved your head back, your head slamming back to the wall once again and you felt your lip being split open. He gripped your neck, his fingertips cutting off your air as you felt something cold being pressed on your neck.
Pocket knife.
“Don’t make a noise or else I’ll-“ he was cut off when your instincts kicked in and you kicked him in the groin, making him double up and you pushed him, screaming for help before he grabbed at you again but this time, he pushed you harder and all of a sudden a hot pain seared through your side and knocked the breath out of you. Even if you were way too scared to look down, your eyes wandered down to your stomach as he pulled the knife back and you let out a whimper before he grabbed your neck again.
“Tell your brother he’s a dead man,” the guy hissed and ran out of the alley as you doubled up in pain, pressing on the wound but you felt the world spin around you as blood trickled through your fingers and the darkness pulled you in.
Of Monsters & Men - Pt. 2
Part One  |  Part Two (you are here)
Alright so I finally got around to proofing this. Wow. So. Many. Errors. And half the shit was confusing and unnecessary. I also saw that I had out my own name in where it was supposed to be Y/N like what the fuck? I am sorry for that mess, I have heavily edited this part so if you are going to read the next part I would reread this one.
Hope you enjoy!
Below are some choreography videos for the two songs that the reader dances to. These are somewhat what I imagined for these scenes. Also Below are links to the songs mentioned in the fic.
Havana
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUEU-dVUjVQ starting at 2:43
Desperado
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xyn8Go4frQ
Okay so it’s like 5 in the morning and I have been working on this for 6 hours straight. I am going cross-eyed. This has been very briefly proofed, so if there are any errors, I’ll fix them in the morning! (or really afternoon cuz my ass ain’t waking up till about 2 pm)
Anyways, here is part 2. I hadn’t planned on this part being so long, but it just came out of me as I was writing. This part is gonna be kind of boring because it the readers point of view of part 1 and it also has a lot of back story. so please hang in there.
As always, feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. If you like this story let me know! I plan on this being a multi-part fic, but if no one likes it then I won’t continue it.
Songs mentioned in the story are
Havana by Camila Cabello
Desperado by Rihanna
Finesse Remix by Bruno Mars
Someone mentioned that the pictures were distracting last time so i left them out this time round. Except the one ben barnes gif. I mean who doesn’t want at least one of those? Especially when its one of him being so sexually aggressive. :)
Your eyes scan the vivacious dance floor. There was always something you felt that was extremely freeing being a nameless face in the crowd. You could be anyone and no one, but tonight you were someone. Tonight you had a name, Rachel Manafor. Rachel was a young entrepreneur who came out to simply enjoy a night at one of the most popular clubs in New York. Gotta hand it to the case worker who constructed this identity. They had made the cover air tight. If anyone wanted to check up on you, you were covered.
You sighed as you resisted the urge to scratch your scalp. You never were one for wearing wigs. Honestly, I don’t know how Nat handles this. The woman has more missions that she goes undercover for than Kellogg’s has cornflakes. I’ve only had this wig on for three hours and I am ready to strangle something. Your eyes continue scanning the crowd. You clock all the visible exits making sure there aren’t any unforeseen obstacles that could have popped up in the last 10 minutes.
You take note of the Anvil security stationed at the visible exits. Ah, your target must have finally arrived. You look for him on the dance floor and at the bar, but you don’t see him. Since the babysitters are here, he must be close by or on his way. They are probably here to secure the building first. Alright, time for momma to go to work. Get ready boys.
You start making your rounds of the club, checking out the formation of the security and their station points. Dancing your way across the dance floor isn’t easy. The crowd is packed in so tightly that it’s hard to even breathe. You wonder how anyone is able to move in this, but soon realize that the crowd’s dancing is more of a going-with-the-flow-of-shoving-and-pushing-lest-you-get-elbowed-in-the-face rather than actual dancing. However, you are finally able to complete three circuits of the club and feel that you have successfully mapped out the room and the security detail. Only one guard posted at each exit? Whoever’s in charge really underestimates who all is coming for this guy and the power and resources they possess. Well, I’m not gonna complain. Makes my job a helluva lot easier.
With the first step of your mission complete, it was time to start the second step, locate the target.
Speak of the Devil… Aldrich had finally entered the club. It had taken a lot of cashing in IOUs to find where your target would be and when he would be there. You had been saving a lot of those favors for a rainy day, but when SHIELD said jump…
As you watch Aldrich immediately head towards the bar, you couldn’t help but let out a frustrated grumble. The little shit was over two hours later than planned, but you know, spilled milk and all that. Your mission was still on track, and that was all that really mattered. You’ll live. Even with that mentality, you lamented over the date night you had made with your bathtub. So much for me time, and I was so excited about that new bathbomb, too. Mr. Darcy, I hope you’ll wait for me. Box of wine, I’ll miss… who am I kidding? I’ll still smash you when I get home. Dear Lord, I am having full conversations in my head now. Maybe Tony was right. Maybe I do need to see a shrink. With your internal monologue mostly over, you start to plan your next move.
You notice that Aldrich brought an additional entourage of bodyguards, not just the ones stationed at the exits. Well at least the guy in charge wasn’t a total imbecile. You watch the group of men disperse amongst the crowd. However, one man sticks close to the target. Must be close guard tonight. You check the man out. Your eyes appreciating the masterpiece in front of you. No doubt this was the infamous William Russo. So, the gossip was right for once, man he is fucking beautiful. Nat, I’ll never doubt you again.
Russo had been on SHIELD’s radar for a few months now. How could he not be? Some Jarhead fresh out of the military, without a penny to his name, suddenly becomes a multi-millionaire in a few short years? That’s definitely some shady shit right there. Hell, the guy drives a fuckin’ Wraith… in New York…. Like what the actual fuck?  You watch Billy remove his leather jacket, revealing the form fitting sweater he wore underneath and you bite your lip. Have mercy.
You shake your head back and forth trying to refocus. Okay enough about tall, dark and handsome. Time to find out where the other Anvil dicks got off too. You look at the beer that some random dude had bought you on your last circuit of the club. He was no doubt hoping to make you feel like you owed him in some sort of sexual favor. Fucking cunt. With that thought, you chug the remaining liquid and slam it on the nearest table, making your way back onto the dance floor.
While maneuvering your way through the crowd, you spot three additional guards amongst the partiers. Their just-a-little-too-stiff dance moves and their constant glancing over their shoulders singled them out as Billy’s men. Oh, and also because they kept talking into their sleeves every two fucking minutes. Real inconspicuous. You shake your head. “Idiots,” you mumble under your breath. This is almost too easy.
With the all the guards accounted for, you make your way to the exit you planned on using to make a quick escape. As you work your way across the floor, you make it seem as if you are looking for a friend. “Samantha?” You cry out with a slight whine and slur to your voice. You’re sure to put on a little show, stumbling and slightly putting your weight on everyone you pass. They started making a narrow path, wanting to avoid a potential collision or the possibility of puke. “Samantha! Where are you?”
You keep moving along until you finally make it to the far side of the dance floor. In your earlier assessment, you took note that the side exit is right by the bathrooms. You thank the gods for your luck. You knew with the packed dance floor and the number of utter buffoons posing as bodyguards, you would have to get Aldrich somewhere private and secluded.
You finally reach the hallway that leads to your preferred exit. You see the guard standing stiffly to the right of the door, arms crossed and a stern scowl on his face. He looked to be in his mid-forties with a bit of gray hair at his temples. He was doing an excellent job of exuding the Don’t Fuck Me Me vibe. You keep up your show of being a drunk girl looking for her friend. You stumble and giggle your way towards him.
“’Scuse me, have you seen S’mantha? Can’t find her anywhere.”
Knock off Jason Statham doesn’t respond just gives you a stern look. You stumble closer to him, hugging the wall for balance.
“D’you hear me? I SAID ‘M LOOKIN’ FOR MY FRIEND S’MANTHAAAA.” You say a little too loudly and with an annoying whine for added effect.
“Look Ma’am, I don’t know who Samantha is, but you’re not supposed to be back here.” He uncrossed his arms as he answered your question, holding them out slightly as if he was about to stop you from coming any closer.
You’re almost close enough to him now that if you were to stumble you would fall right in to his chest, and that is exactly what you do. You let out a surprised gasp as he steadies you. You look up at him and smile.
“Aw thank you! You’re my hero.” You say a little breathlessly as you grasp his biceps. “Oh WOW you’re so strong!” You say with a little awe in your voice.
Your charms don’t seem to be working on the man though. He just looks down at you unfazed.
“Ma’am you can’t be back here.” He repeats.
“Oh, alright you fuddy duddy!” You say as you smack his chest. “I’ll leave, jeez! But if you see S’mantha, tell her that Ray-shul‘s lookin’ for ‘er!” You turn around to leave and take a step forward to leave but stop suddenly.
“Hey sir?”
You hear him sigh and you can tell whatever he says next will have an exasperated tone to it. “Wha-“
You turn around swiftly, delivering a round house kick to his temple, immediately knocking the him out.
“You need to learn to loosen up a little.” You say flatly to his unconscious body.
The next few minutes pass quickly as you secure his hands and feet with some zip ties you hid in your bra. Not much room for a utility bely in this get-up. You drag his body in to some random supply closet and kick off the door knob, effectively locking him in. When you’re done, you straighten your pink form fitting skirt and readjust your bralette making sure none of the goodies were showing. Sometimes it sucks being a woman.
Alright. Phase one complete. Phase two here I come. You make your way back into the mass of bodies. If I never see another club after this mission, it will be too soon. I have had enough of this hot, sweaty mob. You see Aldrich and Russo are at the bar still, so ou make your way to the bar area and hover at the edge dance floor. You take position to make sure you’re seen by the men. Camila Cabello’s Havana starts playing and you start moving to the beat. This next part wouldn’t be hard. Dancing was something you loved, despite your bad memories that were often tied to dancing.
Flashback
You breathe heavily as you wipe the sweat from your forehead. All you can hear are the raps of the cane against the floor as your ballet instructor calls out moves.
 “Pirouette!”
“Arabesque penchée!”
“Grand Jeté!”
America would never admit to being envious of their long-term rivals, but they couldn’t deny that Russia produced two of the best things the world has ever seen: ballets and spies. You were currently practicing for Swan Lake as the Black Swan. Something you never would had thought you would ever do in your life. Being an orphan that had bounced from Foster Home to Foster home since you were 4, your future never seemed too bright. But all of that changed when you were taken in by the White Rose Initiative.
When the SSR caught wind of the Red Room back in the 40s, they were appalled, and rightly so. The fought for years to put an end to the program and rescue those little girls. And for the most part, they succeeded. However, all it took was for one person to have one awful idea under the pretenses that although it may be awful, if it was for the right cause, the ends could justify the means. So, with that thought process, the CIA formed an American equivalent of the Red Room and it was called the White Rose Initiative.
The WRI took in orphaned girls and trained them torturously in the ways of espionage. While they didn’t chain the girls to the bed, they used other means of imprisonment. A decade of mental and emotional abuse did quite a number on someone.
You had been taken in at the ripe, young age of 8. Your body was trained in multiple martial arts and became specialized in dozens of weapons. Your mind was expanded by professors of the highest caliber, mastering all subjects as well as conquering no less than 12 different languages. You were cultured by learning multiple different musical instruments and training your vocal cords to perform even the most difficult operatic arrangements. You built endurance and strength through ballet and dance classes from the highest trained professionals. Needless to say, your body and mind were finely honed weapons, forged to serve the U.S. Government in any way possible.
During your time with WRI, you endured many different forms of torture. Their goal was to desensitize you so that if you were ever captured, you would not break. Electrocution, waterboarding, extended isolation periods, all seemed like nothing compared to the mental and emotional abuse you suffered under their tutelage. Growing up without love is one thing, but learning to love only one thing in the entire world, and watching it be ripped away from you, knowing there was nothing you could do about it, was too much to bear.
Being inducted to the WRI, doesn’t entail much. You pledge yourself to the United States in a formal deceleration and are you assigned a partner. This partner is with you every moment of every day. Your sparring partner, your roommate, but most importantly, your best friend. Being able to spend your free time with only one person for years on end can only lead to you becoming close. You and  Y/BF/N hit it off right off the bat. You were both around the same age with Y/BF/N only being a few months older than you.
Y/BF/N was all you had. The only person who knew you better than you knew yourself, and you knew her too. This is exactly what the WRI wanted. How else were they supposed to keep their weapons in line? They invested all this time and money making you into a shell of a person who couldn’t break under the most gruesome of tortures even if you wanted to. That is why they gave you only one weakness, and one that they could control and exploit. If you ever misbehaved even in the slightest, failed in training or in education, the person they punished wasn’t you. It was your person that they tortured.
You were always stronger than Y/BF/N. Always just a little faster, a little smarter, a little more determined. You were determined that you would never be the cause of her pain. Y/BF/N, try as she might, was never good at controlling her outburst of rebellion. You both hated the WRI, but you knew that there was no escape from your fate. Y/BF/N however, always held out hope that you all would be rescued from the cruelty. This caused you to “punished” almost daily.
Y/BF/N would always be devastated when you returned to your dormitory with electrical burns or with your finger nails removed, or some other marks that were left from gruesome torturing techniques. You would always console her and tell her you wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Y/BF/N, I don’t know what I would do if you ever changed who you were or your beliefs just to spare me pain. You wouldn’t be you and that would hurt worse than any torture they could put me through.”
You both would spend hours at night, after lights out, dreaming of the day when you both would be free and able to live your own lives. You both had made pacts that you would never do any missions for your torturers. As soon as you two graduated you would run, never to be seen again. It was something that you planned together, mapping out every single detail until every possible outcome had been predicted and appropriately planned for.
However, what they didn’t tell you was that to “graduate”, you would be put in a fight to the death with the person you had come to know as a sister. It made sense. Why would they spend all this time making you unbreakable only to send you out into the world and have one thing that would make you break in a millisecond? It was smart. You have to give them that. Living it though, was a completely different story.
That fated day was fast approaching, and when it came, you and Y/BF/N were called into the training arena. You could see various weapons littered across the room. You also saw a team of people in the middle of the floor cleaning a large amount of blood off the mats. You and Y/BF/N shared a brief look, both reading each other minds. What the hell is going on? You were the first to see your martial arts instructor emerge from the shadows. When he told you what was to come next, you couldn’t believe what you heard. I have to fight Y/BF/N to the death? You couldn’t get the thought to process. Y/BF/N didn’t seem to phased, which threw you for a loop. She almost looked resigned.
You had always had been opinionated, but you always had a tight reign over your tongue. You feared it would fall back on Y/BF/N. You didn’t even really speak much other than when you were with Y/BF/N in private. So when you aggressively responded to your instructor that you wouldn’t be going along with this sick game. Your instructor was taken aback.
“You can’t seriously believe that I would fucking fight Y/BF/N, My. Best. Friend. to the death.” You say in a low and deadly tone.
Your instructor looked at you in disbelief. He couldn’t believe you, his prized pupil, would speak to him like this. He went to open his mouth, no doubt to reprimand you, but before he could say anything, you feel a punch to the gut. You look up to see who would have the audacity to hit you, and you couldn’t believe what you saw.
Y/BF/N had fucking sucker punched you in the gut. You wheeze as you try to get some air back into your lungs.
“Y/BF/N, what the fuck are you doing?”
“You fucking idiot. I am trying to kill you. Are you that much of a dumb bitch?”
With those harshly spoken words, she moved to send an upper cut to your jaw. You duck easily, but your brain felt like it was short circuiting. All you could process is that Y/BF/N is not pulling any punches. She was going full out. She’s really trying to kill me.
Looking back on it, you can only remember bits and pieces, but your body must have gone into fight or flight mode because the next thing you know you have a Kukri, your preferred blade, in your hand. You’re not sure how or when it got there, but the only thing you can think about is how deeply it is embedded in Y/BF/N’s gut. You let out a heartbreaking wail as your brain fully registers what you have done.
“NOOOOOOOOOO!”
Y/BF/N’s body is leaning heavily against yours. It’s as if she doesn’t have the energy to stand on her own anymore. She looks at you and smiles, blood staining her teeth Your heart shattered into a million pieces in that moment. A moment that dragged on for what felt like a life time, and all you can think is, Oh God, what have I done.
“No.” You whisper. A faint, broken echo of your wail earlier. Y/BF/N coughed but the cough didn’t seem to alleviate any of her pain as lets out a sickly gurgle. That’s not good. Logically in your brain, you could see the signs that her life was nearing its end, but your heart couldn’t accept it. Her body went slack and started to slip down your body. You kneel down with her and prop her head in your lap.
“Y/BF/N, please stay with me. Don’t leave me. You can’t leave me. Not you. Not now. We’re so close. What about that island, huh? We were going to go and flirt with all of the local guys, drink mojitos and do absolutely nothing all day, every day. You can’t leave me. You can’t…” Your voice breaks. “You can’t. You can’t. You can’t.” You repeat the mantra barely above a whisper.
“Y/N.” Y/BF/N draws your attention away from your grief. “You’re free. Don’t make my sacrifice for nothing. Resist. You may have to work for them until you can get out, but… you have to… you have t-” You can see that talking is draining what little energy she had left. Every world is a battle to get out. Every breath more labored than the last.
“Shhhh. Save your energy please. I can’t lose you.”
“No, you… have to… remember… they don’t…. they don’t own you Y/N. Remember. Remember… who… you… ar..” Her last word left her mouth like a sigh as her breathing stopped. Despite what your heart was telling you to do, you didn’t rage and scream. You sat there with her until your instructor came over and put a hand on your shoulder. Numb, you just looked up at him and he offered you a pained smile.
“Congratulations, you’ve officially graduated. Go back to your dormitory and pack up. You ship out at 0800.”
It’s like you were a zombie, you nodded and stood. You neatly folded Y/BF/N’s hands on her chest. She looked so peaceful. With one last look at her face, trying to memorize every feature, you turned and walked away and didn’t look back. It was torture being back in your room, seeing little signs of her everywhere. You could see where she had left her brush on the night stand and her bed unmade, a small defiance to the Initiative. You moved towards bathroom to wash her blood off of your body.
After you had dried off, changed and packed, you looked around your room. It never had been so quiet before. Even when you both were asleep, the quiet was broken with Y/BF/N’s soft snores, something she would deny she did until she was blue in the face. You eye her bed and lay down on it. As you stretch yourself out, you run your hand under the pillow only to come into contact with a hardback book. You pull it out and read the cover. “Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.” It was her favorite book. She read a little bit of it every night before she went to sleep.
You opened to the bookmarked page. Your eyes scanning the page’s contents only coming to land on the section she had underlined. “There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” You smirked as you read the passage. Then you noticed the little note she had written in the margins. “If this ain’t us, I don’t know what is…” And like that, the dam burst. You let out a sob before you could contain it. You rolled over and shoved your face into the pillow. You let out a blood curdling scream. You could feel tears and snot soaking the pillow. While it felt good to express some emotion finally, when you had cried the last tear, you just felt empty. You got up and put the book in your pack. At least I’ll something of hers.
And thus began your time as the empty shell that you swore to Y/BF/N that they would never make you. For years, you didn’t care if the world lived or died. You didn’t speak to anyone other than reporting to your superiors. You had soon made a name for yourself, and not in a good way. You were good at what you did. You were stealthy and deadly and you never failed a mission. People started calling you Echo after the nymph in Greek Mythology. Hera deprived her of speech, except for the ability to repeat the last words of another.
End Flashback
You come out of your reverie when a new song started playing. The deep thumps of the bass reverberating in your chest. You really shouldn’t be getting this fucking distracted on a mission. However, Your traitorous brain turns back to the past.
It’s hard for you to think back on your time after WRI. Especially since it was against the dying wish of your best friend. You aren’t proud to say that you lived that way for a long time. You only came out of your zombie like state when the aliens attacked New York.
Flashback
You were walking along the sidewalk with your head down and earphones in listening to some rap music as you made your way to HQ to get your new mission debriefing. Through the loud music in your ears you start to hear screaming. You look up to see a horde of aliens flying about wreaking havoc on the city. You see the innocent people fleeing and fearing for their lives.
As your eyes scan your surroundings to plan your first mode of attack, your eyes land on a mother clutching her son to her chest, who was obviously dead. He had been impaled with a Chitauri staff. The kid couldn’t have been older than 10. Watching her grieve reminded you of yourself with Y/BF/N. And in that moment, you decided that as long as there were evil dickwads out there preying on the innocent, you were going to do anything you could to protect them. You couldn’t help but think that Y/BF/N would be proud of you. No doubt giving you an ear full about it taking so long first though. And with that thought in mind, you began killing as many of those sons of bitches as you could. There was a never-ending stream of them flying around on those damn hover crafts though and you soon became exhausted. You didn’t know how much longer you could hold out.
You pause after decapitating a Chitauri with a loose piece of metal paneling when you hear loud bellows off in the distance. What the hell is that? Next thing you know, you see the Hulk leaping from building to building. You follow his path with your eyes. And as he gets closer, you can hear his roars louder than ever and you fight the instinct to cover your ears to protect them from the sear volume of the noise. You realize he is headed directly towards you. Why is he coming at me, man? What did I do? You see that he passes right over your head though and you turn your head to see where he is heading and you see that you are a few yards from Stark Tower. Oh.
You watch as he swings his body on to the roof and you wonder what’s going on up there, but your thought process is rudely interrupted when a particularly large Chitauri knocks you on your ass. You get up and quickly dispose of him and four others. You then hear what sounds like a jet engine coming right at you. You look up to see Iron Man carrying a nuke on his back.
“What the actual fuck is going on? Did I take LSD without knowing and this is just a bad trip?”
You see him fly into the portal you noticed the Chitauri coming out of earlier and deliver the pay load. You let out a thunderous whoop as did many of the people around you. You hear the nuke exploding in the portal and all of the remaining Chitauri collapse at once. They don’t get back up.
You look back up into the sky to see the portal beginning to close. You can’t explain it, but when that portal closed, some unknown force knocked you back… like about 30 feet… and slammed you into a brick wall with what felt like the force of a semi-truck going 80 mph. It was a hit that should of killed you. Or at least hospitalized you for months, but before you passed out, you felt a warmth take you’re your body and somehow, you knew you would be alright. The next thing you remember was coming to in a pile of debris.
You look up to the sky again to see if there is still any more action going on, only to see Ironman free falling at an alarming rate. As he draws to close to the ground for comfort, the Hulk swoops in and catches him. They land on the ground not far from you, and you see that Tony isn’t moving. All of the Avengers have gathered around now, and it looks like they have lost hope of him being alive. All of a sudden, the Hulk lets out an ear-splitting roar and Tony jerks awake.
After a heartwarming reunion, the team collects themselves and take in the wreckage that is New York. You are looking at them when Steve makes eye contact with you. He gives you a curious look. You just smirk at him and give him a little wave. He directs the team’s attention towards you and they all start making their way over to you. You hear Hawkeye say, “She take all them aliens out by herself?” And you can’t help but to respond.
“No. Not all of them, about 80% though. The rest are courtesy of the big guy.” You nod towards Hulk and he gives everyone a self-satisfied smirk with a grunt of acknowledgement. “Hulk smash.” He said under his breath in a proud tone.
Tony, who looks worse for wear, looks at the number of dead aliens around you. “Yeaaaah, you got spunk kid. What’s your name?”
“Name’s Y/N, but everyone calls me Echo.”
Nat perks up at this. “Wait. THE Echo? 147 confirmed kills? The silent death dealer of the White Rose Initiative?”
Steve speaks up. “Nat, you know this woman?”
“Know her? I’ve been trying to track her for years. SHIELD has her listed as a potential threat and a potential asset.”
“Hah! Well what do you know! Y/N, why don’t you join the Avengers? I’m sure I can get ole Cyclops to agree. Don’t you think Nat? You know I’m his favorite anyways. He can’t say no to me.”
“Tony, shut up for a second, will you? Y/N, what do you say? I know that Fury would jump at the opportunity to have you be a part of the team, especially after this fiasco. We’re gonna need all the helo we can get.”
“Oh, I dunno man, I mean do I have to wear dumb ass costumes?” You say as you eye up Thor. “I mean a cape, dude? Really?”
You can hear Tony mumble “I like her already,” to Nat and you can hear her chuckle.
Thor, looking offended, responds with, “I’ll have you know that capes are essential for… flying and aerodynamics and… things.”
“Mmm-hmm… Look guys I don’t know. Being an Avenger is this whole thing and I dunno… I’m not into being in the spotlight. I am looking to be on the right side of things though. Got a whole lot of shit to make up for.” Nat nods in understanding. “Widow, think Director Grumpy Mother Fucker will let me join SHIELD?”
The group let out a small laugh at that. Except Cap. He looks a little uncomfortable. Guess his delicate sensitivities doesn’t like cursing. Pussy. “I’ll be sure and let him know! Look we got to get going and report in or said director will have our heads on a platter. We will keep in touch though. You know where to find us.” She says as she gestures towards Stark Tower. You nod in acknowledgement. Well, Y/BF/N, I don’t really remember who you knew me as, but I know who I am going to try to be. I hope it’s someone you would be proud of.
End Flashback
And that’s how you came to be here, in this bar, on this mission. You listen to the song again. The lyrics flowing through you to move your body in a sensual manner.
Desperado Sittin’ in an old Monte Carlo A man whose heart is hollow Mhm, take it easy I’m not tryna go against yuh Actually, I’m goin’ witcha
You close your eyes and feel the music move your soul. Getting lost in music and dance was always an escape for you at your time in the WRI.
Gotta get up out of here And yuh ain’t leavin’ me behind I know you won’t cause we share common interests You need me, there ain’t no leaving me behind Never, no, no, I just want outta here, yeah Once I’m gone, ain’t no going back
You open your eyes and look over to where Russo and Aldrich were stationed. It looks like Aldrich got another round of drinks. Good. The drunker the better. You’re mid-turn in a dance move when you see from the corner of your eyes Aldrich looking in your direction. You smirk to yourself. Off to a good start. You close your eyes again and bite your lip as you let the music take you over again.
If you want, we can be runaways Running from any sight of love Yeah, yeah, there ain’t nothin’ There ain’t nothin’ here for me There ain’t nothin’ here for me anymore But I don’t wanna be alone
You open your eyes and look directly at your target. He seems to be admiring the view. Got ‘em hook, line and sinker. You crook your finger at him with a sultry smirk. He looks over to Russo and says something. They share a short conversation before Aldrich looks back over to you. You make the same motion and let out a small laugh, hoping it would encourage him to come over. He gestures as if to say, “Who me?” You nod and laugh again.
He eagerly makes his way to you.
“Well, hello there beautiful.”
“Hi Handsome. I saw you watching me and wanted to know if you wanted to dance.”
He doesn’t respond. Bruno Mars’ Finesse remix comes on. It’s a little more upbeat, but Aldrich moves to closer to you so that his right leg is in-between yours. If you move, you will be basically dry humping his leg. As you both begin to move to the beat, you hear him ask for your name.
“Rachel.”
“That’s a pretty name. Name’s Chad. Chad Aldrich.” He says very matter of fact tone. He was clearly expecting you to know who he was from his last name alone.
You give him a blank stare.
“You know the Aldrich’s? They are a branch of the Rockefeller family tree. I’m a very important person.”
Man, this guy is a dick and I’ve only been talking to him for two seconds. You lean up to whisper in his ear. “Oh, I am sure you are. Very. Important.” You lick into his hear on the last word and Chad is speechless. Thank God for that.
You two dance to the upbeat song for a bit more before it bleeds into the next. This new one slow and sensual. Definitely a bump and grind song. You move to turn around and press your back to his front. You start to move to the beat and Chad wraps his arms around you, putting his head next to yours.
You dance like this for a couple more songs and you can feel that Chad is getting a little excited. You lean your head back on his shoulder and press your rear more firmly to his groin. He lets out a groan, that is impossible to hear in the loudness of the music, but you can feel it coming from his chest. You turn your head slightly to whisper in his ear.
“I want you to fuck me hard in the bathroom.”
“Oh, someone’s kinky.”
“Tell me about it daddy.”
With those last words he looks at you excitedly and nods an okay. You turn to pull him away. You can feel him signaling to Russo and making some gestures behind you, but you choose to ignore them. As you make your way to the bathroom, you can feel Chad getting more and more handsy. He impatiently grips your hips and pulls himself close to you. He runs his hands across your stomach and squeezes one of your breasts.
You finally make it to the bathroom, but before you can enter the door, Chad turns you around and forcefully molds his mouth to yours. He seriously lacks finesse. You chuckle internally at your pun from thinking back to the earlier song. God I am corny. You tolerate the kiss for a few moments before you break it off and pull him into the bathroom. You quickly shoo out any other guys. Man, the bro code must be strong if the guys just willingly leave in the face of a possible quickie for their fellow dude.
Chad grips your shoulders and roughly pushes you against the wall. You two make out for a minute before a guy in a plaid shirt enters the bathroom. He doesn’t seem as accommodating as the other guys. He grumbles, “Get a room, fucking horn dogs.”
You start to shove Chad into a stall. Alright here comes the fun part. You forcefully push him down on to the toilet and straddle his lap. He makes a satisfied sound and that’s the last thing you hear from him as you pinch the pressure point in his trapezoid and he quickly passes out.
You move quickly to remove your skirt and pull out your finger printing kit that had been disassembled and strapped to your inner thigh. You deactivate the photostatic leggings you had on and they turn back to their original black color. You would have to thank Nat for getting them for you. You checked the photostatic veil you had on too. It was still intact and fully functional. Perfect. Everything is going smoothly.
You make quick work of getting his prints and a strand of hair for DNA. With that done, you whip out your phone and open the app that Peter had developed for Tony that allows you to basically have a portable eye mapper. This is ingenious when you need to get retinal scans. Good job Spiderling. You quickly level the camera lens at his eye that you prop open. You watch the load bar as it slowly progresses. I have about 10 minutes before I have to get the heck out of dodge. You think over your checklist.
You hit a stroke of luck when the guy came into the bathroom. He was wearing a perfect change of clothes. It would definitely be beneficial to your mission if you could quickly change your appearance.
You see that the app has completed its mapping and you make your way out of the stall. You see the guy that came in has finished his business and is currently washing his hands. He makes eye contact with you through the mirror. You smile ruefully at him.
“Can you believe he passed out? What a fuckin’ light weight am I right?”
“Yeah, sure, whatever.”
He turns to get a paper towel to dry his hands. Using his distraction, you pinch the same nerve in his traps as you did to Chad. The guy collapses on the floor. You turn to throw away the skirt you had on and you remove the sheer shirt and toss it in the trash too. You make your way back to the guy and you strip him of his flannel shirt and white t-shirt underneath. You rip the bottom half of the t-shirt and part of the sleeves. You slip the shirt over your bralette and tie it to where it fits firmly across your chest. Next you roll up what was left of the sleeves to make them a bit more feminine looking. Then you take his flannel shirt and tie it around your waist.
You look over to the guy on the ground and decide to put him in the stall with Chad so that he doesn’t cause problems for you. You grunt as you drag him to lie face down on Chad’s lap. You laugh out loud. When they both come to, they will be very surprised at the situation they find themselves in. You take the bits of t-shirt you ripped off and tie their hand to the back of the commode.
With the majority of the job done, you exit the stall and go to remove your wig. Fucking finally. When all of a sudden you see the door to the bathroom slowly creek open and you see a gun stick through the crack. You watch as the person holding the gun finally enters the room fully and the door swings shut behind him.
He looks at you as you look at him. Fucking Russo with his fucking perfect face and hair has to ruin fucking everything. Fuck. You can see him trying to piece together what he is seeing. You fully remove the wig and your Y/H/C falls down and you almost let out a sigh of relief.
You see him taking in your appearance and you can see it in his eyes when all of the pieces come together. You almost sarcastically congratulate him on how fucking slow he was. You don’t though. You just look at him for a second more before you narrow your eyes and take up a fighting stance. You throw a smirk at him. You needed to get that gun away from him ASAP. Lucky for you, it seems he forgot he was even holding one.
Before he can think of what to do next, you charge at him. Bring it on pretty boy. Let’s see who has more balls the ballerina or the marine.
Its 12:49 pm overcast/cool/bird chirps
Welcome to “8 Questions With…….”
The story behind my meeting actor Daniel R. Hill is because of Paladin,my cheetah. Now  how does a meeting like that take place and I’m glad you asked because its a pretty different kind of carpet ride.
A couple of years ago,the cheetah and I were introduced to the crazy world of film maker Joe Lynch when we watched a film of his called “The Knights Of Badassdom” and thought it was one the best films ever!! But what made it really cool was seeing just how down to earth Joe was in real life,the man loves films and having fun and so we followed Joe on Twitter. Joe is very interactive with his fans on his account and he will talk about his films with anyone as we found out. When he annouced the making of “Mayhem”,I sent him a tweet and asked him if there was room for a cheetah in it,he said “No,not this time around but you never know in the future”. Soon (in film speak) “Mayhem” came out and it was an amazing and frentic ride about an out of control virus (hmmmmm) that caused people to go all Republican on each other and we thought it was pretty awesome. Being a busy film director is in Joe Lynch’s blood and soon enough he announced his next project which was called “Point Blank”. So once again I sent him a tweet and asked him if there was room for a cheetah and he tweeted back…..”Funny you should mention that because we do have a character named Cheetah in “Point Blank”.  Of course what can one do but start laughing,now to be perfectly honest,I don’t know of Joe took the crazy tweets of a fan as an inspiration to naming a charater “Cheetah” but it did open the door to meeting the man who not played Cheetah but also has a connection to one of my favorite directors and film companies. When I looked at Daniel’s IMDb page,what leaped out was his co-starring in a film released by IFC Midnight called “Rust Creek” which was directed by Jen McGowan,another fantastic film maker we had met on Twitter after getting a copy of “Rust Creek” and have become friends with. Between the IFC Midnight movie and playing “Cheetah”,it was only right and proper that we interview this wonderful actor. So I reached out to Daniel,told him our story and hoped that he wouldn’t think of us as weird,I don’t know about the not being weird part but I do know I am very glad Daniel agreed to answer 8 Questions with us……..so let’s get to it,shall we?
   Please introduce yourself and tell about your current project.
 My name is Daniel R. Hill. I am a professional actor based in Los Angeles, originally from Louisville. Most recently, my Lionsgate film Hunter’s Moon was released in March, starring Thomas Jane, Katrina Bowden, myself and a great cast. And in January we wrapped the Russo Brothers new film Cherry; with some incredible actors that include Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgard, Forrest Goodluck, Michael Gandolfini, and too many more to name. Had a great time working with Joe & Anthony on that one.
 How are you handling this Covid-19 lockdown? What are you doing to stay busy?
 I am handling it a lot better than I thought I would. I’ve been focused on my health & fitness in 2020. And I’ve been successful to keep on track during the rona. My reps have gotten me a good amount of auditions during this time too. Nobody is sure when filming with start back up, but I love auditioning and it is a great way to keep the acting muscles strong. Other than working out and cooking every meal, I have been working toward finishing my first screenplay. Looking to start shopping it around this Fall. So, trying to stay productive and positive.
 What was it like growing up in the Hill house? What are your three fondest memories growing up?
 I grew up in the very modest Southend of Louisville. I was the youngest of 3 boys (my poor mother). And we were all very immersed in sports from a very young age through college. We all played a different collegiate sport: football, baseball, & soccer. And my father was a successful football coach for 30 years. Most of my fondest memories revolve around sports and all of the friends I made through football and in school. Louisville is a funny place in that when you meet someone new, you always ask – “Where did you go to school?” – and even as an adult Louisvillians know the answer being searched relates to what high school and grade school you attended. I’ve always said Louisville’s slogan should be “Just enough city.” It’s a fun vibrant city full of art, theatre, food, bourbon, and sports. But still has that southern hometown appeal.
 What led you into becoming an actor? Was there a defining moment when you knew that was what you wanted to do?
   I had transferred universities after my freshman year. And while meeting with my advisor at the new school, he asked what I wanted to do after football. It was a question I had thought of a lot. So I blurted out, “Professional Wrestling.” I didn’t know if I wanted to be a wrestler, a manager, or a backstage creative, but I knew a lot about the business, followed it closely, and was friends with a bunch of wrestlers. The advisor did nit laugh at me. He looked at me and said, “Well you need to take an acting class.” And I thought – Hell yeah I do. I was such a jock tht I did not even know that theatre or acting was something you could even major in or pursue in college. And within the first week of Acting 1 I caught the bug. My teacher began to have discussions with me after class as she was impressed that I had a lot of natural talent and zero training. And quite frankly I hated school. And acting was, challenging, engaging, and involved a ton of teamwork. A lot of the same traits of sports. So I dove in head first. I never went back to the football field or wrestling ring, and here I am now in LA doing exactly what I set out to do full time. It has been a long journey, and there is plenty more to go.
 Which do you perfer,doing live theater or doing films? What are the three biggest challenges between the two?
   So I came up through the theatre. Theatre will always be my first love. The first 15 years of my career was exclusively in theatre. Everything from Shakespeare to Hip-Hop Theatre to Chekhov to African American Theatre. And I was able to work for some of the best theatre companies in America,. I received my MFA in Acting at the Professional Actor Training Program (University of South Carolina), and that place made me into the man & artist I am today. I owe so much to them. I was still very green after undergrad and wanted more training at a place that could put me on the professional path. So, I have a LOT of love for theatre. It shaped me into the actor I am today. My love for film & television is much more than financial. I really love that when I complete a film or series that it lives on forever. It is archival evidence of what my purpose was on earth long after I am gone. And I love that people across the world can experience & enjoy my work at the same time people here in the States can. Whereas the special thing about theatre is it is a shared experience in the moment that night with whoever is there. And the shows changes from night to night the same way the audience does. The one take, no second chances of theatre will really test an actor; and I love the challenge. On the flip side, the challenge of film/tv is there are 50 or so people running around, sweating, tired, working so that you can do your job. And all of a sudden it is GO TIME. And everyone stops. And everything gets quiet. And everyone stares at you. And there is millions of dollars on the line. And everyone is expecting you to deliver. Now THAT is a challenge! A much different challenge, but still a very difficult thing to do. I have the highest respect for all actors, and the highest love & gratitude for both storytelling mediums.
 How do you prepare yourself for a new role?
   One thing I learned from my mentor (and very well known acting teachers) Steve Pearson & Robyn Hunt, was how to develop a Process. I think actors who just “wing-it” are foolish and that will only get you so far. At the end of the day we are tasked to take paper & ink and bring it to life. So I teach private lessons to young actors in LA and I ask them all of the time, “So great, you got hired. The role is yours. They send you the script, and you start shooting in 2 weeks. (I lay the scene in front of them) Now show me how you work. How do you bring this paper & ink to life and make it a character and not just someone regurgitating lines they memorized.” And unfortunately 90% of the time they have no clue. To me it ALL starts with script analysis. I read the script many times looking for clues about my character. What do Is say about my character? What do others say about my character? What do I say about other characters? And so on… I could write a whole book on the Process. That is why I am a firm believer that training is crucial. And not everyone needs to study the same techniques. Different methods exist because different things work for different actors. But for me it all starts with in-depth script analysis. And then I use the tools I have learned to bring my character to life: how do they think, talk, breathe, walk different than Daniel the actor? To me creating YOUR version of the character is the most exciting part of the process. I could go on and on, but I won’t. LOL
 You’re at an audition and a fellow actor who is trying for the same role,asks you for help. Would you help or not and why?
    No I would not. I am there to win the job. Now if someone asks something simple like, “Hey have you seen the sign-in sheet?” then I won’t be an asshole. But in an audition setting I am focused on MY work. Nothing aggravates me more than someone who is trying to have small talk in a casting office. That is not the time and place for that. That is what I was taught, that is what works for me, and that is what I believe. I am not gonna be a prick, but I am not there to meet any new friends either. I am there to earn my next job.
” “Daniel has a playfulness in his work that’s energizing. Committed, professional and invested. And on top of being a great actor he’s a really lovely guy. Best of both worlds!”
– Director Jen McGowan (Rust Creek)
What was shooting “Rust Creek” like? Can you share a funny story about your experience? What did you take away from this film that helped you as an actor?
     Rust Creek was and still is a wild experience. Our film was just named Top 20 Films of 2019 by Forbes. Our theatrical run was very successful and we kept getting extended in many cities. We did very good on the festival circuit before that. And now we are in rotation & streaming on Showtime. People love the film and for good reason. Jen McGowan directed a beautiful dark story and compiled an outstanding cast who all delivered really strong work across the board. We filmed in the Winter. Some days it was 10 degrees outside. And most of the film takes place outside in the elements. So there is no faking the frost on a mustache or cold breathe when someone speaks. It was the strongest camaraderie  I had felt on any project. We all knew we had a great script to work with, and we were all still proving ourselves to various degrees as forces to be reckoned with in the business. And we knew the elements were going to be brutal. But if we banded together and fought and stayed positive always that there was a bright light at the end. That film showed me firsthand that you don’t always need massive studio budget to pull off a special piece of cinema.
 Talk to us about playing “Cheetah” in “Point Blank”….what was it like working with director Joe Lynch? Is he really that nice as he comes across?
How do you keep yourself sharp if you’re not on set shooting scenes?
     Cheetah was one of the funnest roles I have played to date. I grew up around many people like that character. And I was a rapper early in my career before ever getting into acting. So I had plenty to pull from. And most people in Hollywood would not expect me to be able to pull off such a role by looking at me now. So that intrigued me. I hit it off with Joe from mt first callback. He liked my take on Cheetah, and we had some great discussions like how Cheetah makes a vocal appearance in Wheelman with Frank Grillo but is never seen on camera. So I had some research to do in matching my Cheetah voice with that one. But early on I loved Joe’s energy and vision for the film. I thought he killed it. What a fun set that was. Cannot say enough good things about everyone involved including Joe Lynch, Producer Joe Carnahan, star Frank Grillo, and everyone at WarParty films. Adam Simon’s script was brilliant. Ans my boy Markice Moore as Big D was brilliant. I hope to work with many of those guys again in the near future. It was blazing hot in Cincinnati where we filmed. Luckily Cheetah had cornrows, so they kept my head cool. But I was swearing through wardrobe shirts like crazy. Haha. When I am not shooting scenes I like to sit in video village and learn from directors, producers, & cinematographers. There is a TON that goes on behind the camera that I think helps a film actor become even better the more they become aware of it.
 What  are three things about teaching that you enjoy the most?
 1 – I love paying it forward. I was once that really young eager lid who wanted to get better. And if not for great teachers I would not be where I am today. 2- I love seeing that lightbulb moment happen for actors when they finally “get” something. And then you see them connect the dots and begin to grow. It is very rewarding to help them realize things that will make their work stronger. 3 – It makes me a better actor and keeps me sharp. All of my best teachers were the ones who could also do. And who continued to work. The challenge of effectively communicating what I know so that someone else truly absorbs it – that keeps me on my game.
 Is there any role that you would turn down and why?
   As long as it makes sense, and I believe in the project, then I’m game for most roles. But I am going to ask a lot of questions if I am going to take a risk with a role. At the end of the day it is not al about money. Most actors, myself included, want to make meaningful art. And there are different genres, and they all have merit, but I always need to know why this story and this character are important. And does what is happening over all make sense?
 What do you like to do on your down time?
  I study a ton of film & tv series. We have so much content these days we are in the Platinum Era of TV, especially with the rise of streaming services. You cannot watch everything. But things that I think I would be good for, or that I am being pitched for, I watch at least a few episodes. You never want to audition for a series blind not knowing anything about it. If it already exists you need to do your research.
Which five actors/actresses would you like to do a scene with and why?
  Meryl Streep – she is fearless. She makes BOLD choices and does not apologize about it. Those are my favorite types of actors.
Daniel Day Lewis – Daniel vs Daniel on screen. What’s not to like? A  “character actor” in the truest sense of the word. Most of the truly great actors know how to become the character.
Denzel Washington – He is an icon. And I like how he is evolving as an actor. He keeps getting better with age. His work gets deeper & richer every time. I think Roman J Isreal was his best work.
Jeffrey Wright – for the same reasons I mentioned in ALL 3 of the above actors. This man has never phoned it in. I have loved his work from Basquiat to Cadillac Records to everything in between. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. A Master at work on film.
Laura Dern – I think she is one of the greatest actors of all time. Powerful, connected, and full of conviction. She seems like an actor that would keep me on my toes, and I like that.
   The cheetah and I are flying over to watch your latest film but we are a day early and now you are playing tour guide,what are we doing?
  In LA we would have to get Mexican food at one of the many great restaurants or taco trucks, then we’ll walk it off on the Venice Boardwalk and head down to the Santa Monica Pier for some prime people watchin & scenery. End the day meeting with a bunch of friends at Angel City Brewing followed by Wurst Kuche for late night artisan bratwurst, beer, & a live dj while coloring with crayons on the tables. Sounds weird cause it is.
I like to thank Daniel for taking the time to chat with us. His new film “Hunter’s Moon” is now out and you can pick it up at places like Walmart and Best Buy. We’re still waiting and hoping for a home release of “Point Blank” sometime this year. You can get “Rust Creek” on the IFC Films website.
To keep up with Daniel’s fast rising career,you can follow him through various ways.
Follow Daniel on his InstaGram page. You can also follow him on his Twitter page. You can see what films and TV shows Daniel will be on via is IMDb page.
If you are new to the blog and my interview series,you can catch up by going here.
Everything wrong with Endgame (Spoilers)
Ok I’m not here to argue, and I’m not saying that I didn’t like parts of the movie. Or that I don't understand why some things were done the way they were. But that also doesn’t mean that I can’t also see ways it could have been done better for a very similar result. For the most part the things I liked about the movie come down to humor and the cinematic experience. So the videography, music, and visual experience like fights. Which given that it's a Marvel film was to be expected. They are very good at balancing humor and darkness and the filmography tends to be wonderful. However I had tons of issues with a lot of the rest of the film. And looking back over the films done by the Russo brothers I have in general not loved them as much as the rest of the MCU.
My thoughts will be divided into different sections based mainly on the main 6 and their arcs/ characters and relationships to those around them. Again this contains spoilers for the movie. I am not trying to argue about the film or why it was done the way it was done. Just needed a place to rant my thoughts and emotions about the film. (For all I know I may never post this anywhere.) But basically it’s an “I recognize the council has made a decision but given that its a stupid ass decision I’ve elected to ignore it.” Except sub Russo’s for Council. Also while I am trying to organize this logically it won’t be chronological because I can’t do that and have it be fixed by characters.
Bruce/ The Hulk:
Ok Starting off small with Bruce and the Hulk. In general its character issues for them. I hate what was done to Bruce. Not only is it creepy I don’t feel it was fair to the Hulk. While I do get wanting him to reconcile with the Hulk and understand that Hulk isn’t evil and they need to work together. But it felt more like Bruce figured out a way so he could be in control while having the Hulk’s body and strength and that just doesn’t seem fair or ok. Not to mention just it was kinda creepy to watch. I feel like if they had wanted to go this way it would have been more fair for like 50/50% control or having a timeshare thing. After all it has been shown- in Thor Ragnarok, the comics, and cartoons- that Hulk is more than just rage. He’s more like instincts given form. He can even talk and wants to protect those he cares about. So I just don’t think what was done was the best for the character or for the relationship between the two sides. Also like I feel like it was unfair for the Bruce/ Natasha relationship. Which while I am not a fan of was introduced earlier on and I think needed to be handled better.
Thor:
Thor just pissed me off. I felt like it was so out of character that it was ridiculous. What they did to him doesn’t fit his character or situation at all. Becoming a recluse, frat boy, alcoholic and using his weight for tons of fat jokes felt in poor taste and completely OOC. Added to that having him turn to Valkyrie and go “you’re king now.” Was also unprecedented and just random. It felt like it was just a “let's tie this up fast and get it out of the way.” We had no previous evidence of Valkyrie having done anything leader like. When they showed up in New Asgard it looked like she could just be a fisherman or craftsperson. Not that she was a leader for the town. I feel like Thor would have been more the type to be out in the galaxy helping Captain Marvel than secluding himself in a house and becoming a drunkard. Or even leading his people, he had shown growth of that in Ragnarok and the characterization between that and Endgame was so different it was ridiculous.
Clint:
For the most part I agreed with how Clint was handled. Except for a couple main things, I think Natasha would have been out looking for him and found him faster. And I think he should have had a redemption arc. I understand they wanted him to reunite with his family but I feel like Clint needed the redemption more and would have been a better fit for sacrificing himself to get the Soul stone. I also still hate how much of Clint’s character was erased for the films and wish his disability was acknowledged. He was deaf and far sighted (I see better from afar) and I wish his character had been done more justice in general.
Natasha:
We now get into the “I’m really pissed off about this” section. Natasha. Oh where to start. First off I feel like the MCU in general has been extremely unfair to Natasha. I feel like she has been underused andher character has been pretty ignored. But she is very important to the dynamic in the original 6. She’s pretty much everyone’s best friend. And she was just basically brushed aside. And then in this film they go and have her sacrifice herself and then that's only acknowledged once when they return to the present. It was also kinda selfish because Clint had lost the rest of his family and then she goes and jumps and makes him lose the only person who is basically his sister. So he has to watch his last family member die and be unable to bring her back. Which is another issue I have. She deserved her own series of movies and now we will only ever get prequels. Also like in the comics you could bring people back out of the soul stone. Which it was confirmed that's where the souls sacrificed went into. They became controllers of the stone and could basically do a lot from inside and have come back before. And while this does introduce the idea of time travel it still felt like this was the end and that wouldn’t be used again.
Steve:
Mostly I just hate Steve’s ending. It felt very OOC and like brought up a bunch of inconsistencies in the universe.  It also kinda felt like the Russos didn’t watch AOU. In the end Steve says “Family, stability... The guy who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. I think someone else came out." So the fact that they had him go back in time and end up married to Peggy was like ??? Not only did it ignore a lot, if not all, of Agent Carter. It then made no sense as to how he ended up back in our time in our timeline. If he marries Peggy in the past we wouldn’t have probably found him the same way/ time. And just it would create an alternate timeline. Plus he ended up kissing his own niece. Which, ew? Then he came back and was old- which isn’t how his aging worked in the comics at all. And he gave the shield to Sam. I think it would have made more sense for his character to give the shield to Bucky and Bucky to tell him no. Then leaving him to give it to Sam. I Also think it would have made more sense for him to just want to be a teacher at the compound or been incapacitated rather than become old.
Tony:
In general I kinda understand Tony’s ending the most. But I also really disagree with it. First he wouldn’t have done what he did in the last scene because as he said earlier in the film- “I have a family now. I can’t just give that all up.” And like that was the whole reason they decided to go with the plan they were going with. So that they would still have had the past 5 years progress. Then I just think they shouldn’t have killed him. There were tons of other ways for this to be an “ending” like they wanted without killing him. I think he should have become unable to leave a wheelchair or just unable to use the suit due to strain and, like Steve, passed it on. I think he should have dedicated his time to making better and better tech so that none of their protegees would die. I think he should have tutored them. But mostly I think he should have gotten to be a father to Harley, Peter, and Morgan. I think he should have gotten the happiness he deserved.
Plot points and inconsistencies
1. It's been 5 years and they suddenly bring back everyone who died in the snap. Which, like? No acknowledging all the issues with that? People who moved on from loved ones. The growth that would have happened in those 5 years. The mass PTSD caused by all this in the end. What happens if someone was snapped back into the same spot as another person? Or the other issues with half of the world's population suddenly coming back from nowhere.
2. Thanos dying by being snapped, while it made sense as a kind of justice for him having to experience the same as what everyone else did, was just anticlimactic.
3. Present! Nebula killing Past! Nebula
4. Past! Gamora suddenly disappearing in our time.
5. Nebula should have gotten to kill Thanos. She deserved it more than anyone else in the world.
6. Thanos still having the chautari army. Like even if he came from the past that would have been after Avengers 1 which would mean his army would have been, you know, dead?
7. For all the hype for Captain Marvel she kinda didn’t feel used enough? Like all the “Fury didn’t contact her until something MAJOR happened cus she's so OP and would be who we need to fix this” she was just kinda… there?
8. Strange effectively keeping Tony alive only for him to die.
In general I felt like Endgame was a poor attempt at “ending” the first arc of the Marvel movies. I also kinda didn’t feel like an ending was needed? Like yeah the actors want to do other things. But I’d have liked to see them appear in the rest of the films as the kinda Stan Lee cameo. Tony sipping coffee as something destructive happens outside his tower. Steve at the park sketching as Spider-man swings by fighting someone. Clint appearing at the end and being sassy to someone. Just the main 6 taking over Stan Lee’s cameos and continuing it. It wasn’t well done, and frankly didn’t make sense for the characters. Plus it left so many things unanswered and making no sense that it was just hella confusing.
In general it felt super rushed and disconnected from the original films. And looking back over most of the Russo’s films I’ve had issues with almost everything they have done. And while at points it seems they understand the characters it also just feels like they don’t. Plus I still have the huge issue with every singe Avengers movie being the Avengers just fighting and arguing until they work together. Like it was ok for the 1st one but can’t we have more scenes like the one in AOU in the tower at the party? Where they are friends and family and just joking around? Because that's what they are. And the largest number of fanfics is about that. I’ve read fanfics that understand these characters better than a lot of the directors. Its sad, and I don’t think I’ll ever get over it. This is the one Marvel movie I don’t think I’ll go see in theaters a second time. Because no, I didn’t enjoy it.
Vengeance, violence, and vigilante justice: Marvel/Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ offers compelling antihero and complex themes
Vengeance, violence, and vigilante justice: Marvel/Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ offers compelling antihero and complex themes
I’ve been looking forward to Marvel/Netflix’s “The Punisher” ever since the character showed up in season two of “Daredevil” (and was actually the highlight of that season for me). However, I was also a bit nervous about how Marvel and Netflix would handle his solo show, based on the fact it’s a series about an angry loner who is surrounded by gun violence. I didn’t want the series to over-glorify the violence or to gloss over some of the more serious issues that come with presenting this type of character.
Thankfully, “The Punisher” is just as complex, nuanced, and thought-provoking as most of the Marvel/Netflix superhero shows. The show is full of flawed but compelling characters and raises awareness about some deeper, real-world issues. The show has actually been out for a while, but my husband and I just finished watching it this weekend (he’s not as much of a binge-watcher as I am). 😉 “The Punisher” had a lot of interesting themes to chew on, so I wanted put together a review to sort out my thoughts, even though it’s a bit belated. Also, warning: there are some minor spoilers ahead!
Introduced into the Marvel/Netflix universe in “Daredevil” season two, “The Punisher” continues the story of vigilante Frank Castle and his quest for vengeance after his family is murdered. Out of all the Marvel/Netflix heroes we’ve met so far, the Punisher operates the most in the moral gray area between right and wrong. In his mind, prison is not enough for the people who hurt his family; he needs to make them suffer in the most painful way possible for their crimes. As part of his quest, he stumbles on a larger government conspiracy that expands his hit list. The viewers are asked to consider whether Castle’s brand of vigilante justice is morally defensible and whether it will even satisfy him in the end. What will happen when he finally reaches the end of his list of the guilty? How does he move forward, and is there any kind of hope for a normal life for him beyond that point?
“The Punisher” wouldn’t have worked without the perfect actor in the lead role, and based on Jon Bernthal’s initial appearance as the character in “Daredevil,” I was already convinced they’d perfectly cast the part. Bernthal gets to dig even deeper into the character here, capturing Frank Castle’s painful cocktail of anger and grief. Sometimes I was terrified of this character and what he could do, but I also pitied him. Castle deeply loved his family, and without them, he’s a shell of a man who is living only for vengeance. He also hasn’t been able to fully address the scars (both physical and mental) from his time in the military.
It took me a little bit to warm up to some of the supporting characters, but I liked all of them by the end. I especially enjoyed seeing the ways they contrasted with Castle’s character and how they each had a different reaction to Castle’s quest. Castle ends up teaming up with former NSA analyst David Lieberman (a.k.a. “Micro”), and an unlikely friendship develops out of their shared goals. I also liked Castle’s unexpected ally, Department of Homeland Security agent Dinah Madani, who gets pulled into the gray area Castle operates in. The show also brings in “Daredevil” character Karen Page, and it was really interesting to see their relationship. Page wants to help Castle but is afraid of where his history of violence may eventually lead him.
Since Castle is already an antihero, I was interested to see what sort of villain he would be paired with. If I had read the original comics, I might have seen this plot twist coming, but I was really surprised when Castle’s best friend Billy Russo turned out to be the villain. Russo is played by Ben Barnes, who I’m mainly familiar with from the Chronicles of Narnia series (he played Prince Caspian). Barnes is obviously having fun playing a more villainous role. It’s interesting to look back and see how Russo and Castle’s paths diverged, and even though Castle’s moral code has some major issues, he’s still a better man than Russo has become. Based on the show’s ending, I definitely don’t think we’ve seen the last of Russo.
As mentioned earlier, I was initially a little worried that the show might overwhelm us with violence and end up missing an opportunity to dwell on deeper themes. However, this show has plenty of thought-provoking themes for viewers to reflect on. Some of these include military/wartime ethics, surveillance, domestic terrorism, gun violence, and the treatment of veterans. The later, I feel, is an issue that doesn’t receive nearly enough attention, at least here in the U.S. I feel sometimes we send soldiers off to war but don’t do enough to help them re-adjust to civilian life (finding employment, housing, etc.). There also aren’t enough resources to help them deal with the lingering trauma from their experiences. Throughout “The Punisher,” we see how Castle’s PTSD continues to haunt him and influence his actions.
One of the main criticisms I have heard of the show is that it “meanders” and could have been shorter overall. Since my husband and I watched the episodes spaced out over a couple of months, this didn’t bother me as much. However, I do agree it probably could have been tightened (it probably didn’t need the full 13 episodes). There is some filler, and some subplots could have been condensed.
Still, what we do get is quite powerful. When a show or movie continues to linger with me days after I’ve finished watching it, I know it’s something special. I’ve heard that some fans wished there was more action, but I was actually glad the violence was a little restrained overall. “The Punisher” is a show that made me think, and for me it was well worth the watch.
