Process breakdown #1
Here is a breakdown of the butterfly animation. This was originally posted as a twitter thread, but a real blog post seems to be a much better format for it.
Step 1: Static Drawing
Tumblr media
I've long wanted to experiment with Bokeh effect in pixel art as a way to avoid drawing background. It ended up being a lot more challenging than just a normal background 😂. Still an interesting experiment nonetheless and I might use it for some other stuff in the future.
Step 2: Rough Animation
Tumblr media
I traced the static drawing with a contrasting colour, then roughly sketched the other frames. Seeing it in motion made it clear to me that the form was very obviously incorrect, but I thought I'd adjust as I go.
Step 3: Refined Animation
Tumblr media
Before I got to this point, I naively tried to put in the colour. I quickly realized making the "veins" look consistent would be very hard without guides. So I looked up pictures of actual Morpho butterflies to study the wings in detail. Also made the shapes (mostly) correct and doubled the frame count once I was happy with the shapes.
Step 4: Colours
Tumblr media
This was the most fun part. I conceptualized the wings as two blue tinted, matte, textured mirrors rotating in 3D space. When two mirrors come together, they start reflecting each other. The closer they get, the less the lighting from the surrounding world contribute to the colours you see. Eventually, nearly no light from the outside world make into the gap and all you see is dark blue/black.
It started looking almost like mirrors as I figured out the rough movements of the reflections; then a shimmering mess of colours as I threw in more details from the static drawing. The key trick to making the complex colours look consistent was to pay attention to every "partition" of the wings to make sure the dark colours creep in and out smoothly.
I also gradually filled in the eye spots and details on the backside of the wings, not sure if many people noticed them but I was pretty happy with how they looked.
Step 5: Shadow
Tumblr media
A big part of realism comes from how a moving object affects the lighting around it. In this case: the shadow on the flower. This is a rough version of the shadows as I worked on it. Wasn't too concerned about making it look 100% correct, since the wings probably catch all the attention anyway.
Step 6: Final Touches
Tumblr media
I spaced out the movements so it didn't feel quite so frantic. Instead of using the last frame as the resting frame, I used the second last, and only briefly showed the last frame at the begging and end of the motion to add a bit of realism (although in reality, butterfly wings probably don't have enough mass for that to happen, but hey, 🤷‍♀️).
Also spent some time to reduce the palette down by merging similar looking colours. Also reused the darker, subtler yellow in the background to create the illusion of more flowers out of focus.

Roleplay Tips: "Actionable Responses"
We have all experienced, or will at some point in the future, a thread that feels like it is going nowhere. It's that feeling of reluctance to pull up the draft, of realizing it's the third or so time of experiencing dread when you see that other person respond.
You're bored with the thread. That, or you want to continue and just can't seem to think of what to do next!
There are a number of reasons why this can happen, but one of the most common ones is a lack of an actionable response from your partner. In most cases, deciding to wrap up the thread is the best thing to suggest...but most of us are just too "polite" to do that, huh? 😉But that's a post for another time.
So, what is an actionable response? Simply put, it's a reply to a thread that manages to give direction to your partner. This has NOTHING to do with matching length of post! It's just a matter of being aware that this is a collaborative effort.
Here's an example:
Character A: "I think we should invite our friends out to a party." Character B: "That's a great idea!" Character A: "It'll be a formal party. I'm going to work on the invitations tonight. I'll really go all out and make it fancy!" Character B: "Oh, I can't wait to see what you come up with! I'll be sure to wear the red dress I got over the weekend." Character A: "I'm sure it looks stunning on you. I don't know what I'm going to wear yet. I think I need to figure out the venue and the details first." Character B: "You are going to knock it out of the park! You're always so good at organizing everything!"
So, what happened? The conversation above isn't bad! However, there was "burden" placed on the writer of Character A each time. The writer of B has responded each time in similar length, but gives A little to no idea how to continue the conversation. Each reply made it the responsibility of the writer of A to come up with the direction for the conversation. Here's the breakdown:
A: Starts with the opening prompt (the party)
B: Agrees with idea
A: Elaborates on prompt
B: Enthuses about prompt, brings up new subject (dress)
A: Compliments B, brings up new subject (uncertainty)
B: Reassures A
Sometimes your character requires noncommittal responses, and this is OK to do once in awhile! But think about this in real life: If you met someone who was only this reactive to your comments and never really asked about you or your actions... Wouldn't it get a bit exhausting to talk with them? At the very least, they would appear polite but uninterested, and interactions would tend to be short.
Here's a better example for the above, one with actionable responses from B.
Character A: "I think we should invite our friends out to a party." Character B: "That's a great idea! Which friends, though? The ones from work or school?" Character A: "Why not both? I think it'd be cool to combine our social groups. Unless you think they wouldn't get along…?" Character B: "Well, you know how wild I get around Stacy on the dance floor. I wouldn't want it to reflect bad on my performance review …" Character A: "That's true, you two can get pretty unhinged. But I was thinking of theming it up to be more of a formal party. Like, make fancy invitations and everything!" Character B: "Oh, that sounds amazing! And less likely I'll start twerking, although the possibility isn't zero. Do you need any help with the invitations? Or anything else?" Character A: "I should have the invitations under control, but I'd love it if you could brainstorm the decorations. I want to go for a vintage 1950's vibe." Character B: "I am already making a Pinterest. This is going to be great! Oh, and I just bought the cutest red dress that'll work perfectly for the theme! Do you know what you want to wear? We can go window shopping later if you want!" Character A: "That would be great! Do you have pics of the dress?"
The above interaction isn't just more equal in engagement, its flow and dialogue is far more natural and prompts more detailed responses! Here's the breakdown for this one:
A: Starts with the opening prompt (the party)
B: Responds asking for more details, prompting a new subject (guest list)
A: Answers, asks for B's opinion
B: Answers, brings up a third party that A can comment on
A: Makes a comment, but chooses not to pursue subject at length; brings up new point of discussion (formal party)
B: Gives opinion, offers help
A: Accepts help, provides further prompt details (party theme)
B: Gives opinion, offers up another subject of clothing, offers up potential next direction/goal of thread (shopping)
There is a lot more "work" involved on both sides in the above example. And this is just with dialogue alone -- using descriptors and physical actions (i.e B could pull up their phone and show A the photos of their dress, or A could have started to playfully mock imitate B's dancing) also gives the other character something to respond to. This works great for Muses who canonically don't say much or are generally quiet in certain scenarios!
The ultimate goal of writing Actionable Responses is to share the responsibility of the scene, so that one writer doesn't feel burdened with directing everything and eventually associate your threads with fatigue, even subconsciously. Communication also plays a big part, too! Your responses may be actionable, but if the other writer isn't picking up any of them, it's time to pause the thread and communicate ooc and see what's up!
"Oh no! I realized I don't write a lot of Actionable Responses! Does that mean I'm a bad writer/horrible person? Do all my partners secretly hate me? Is this why I don't get any responses?"
NO. Realizing the above only means you're learning something new right now, and it is up to you if you want to employ the above suggestions or not. This thread is not meant to shame people -- it is meant to educate, and maybe even put into words what other writers feel, so that they can share and point to it when they feel responsibility is unbalanced in a thread.

✏️WIP Weekend✏️
I was tagged by the amazing @sidekick-hero :) Thanks, friend!
In a reblog of this post (so people can find you in the notes) or new thread (w/ rules attached) if you want to play on your own, post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to play!
After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file. If the filename is one you can't share from (for example, an event or gift fic), write 3 sentences on it anyway, and then 3 more on another to share.
That’s it! You can invite others to join in, or just post.
Currently working on my summer fic and so I won't share anything from that Steve file, but everything else is up for grabs (looking at you, tinsel fic)! I take my WIPs very unseriously because it takes a few drafts for me to get the feel of a story, but most of these are in a place where I'd like to start finalizing details so I can post them by the end of April (ahh!).
couldve fooled me (steddie microfic draft)
Steve (starts for my summer exchange fic--can't share anything from here)
New Tinsel D2 (Steddie Xmas fic from a challenge that I'm aiming to finish asap so please make me write this one)
Reckless (White Collar fic for Whumpril)
No Time to Rest (Dad!Thor fic for Whumpril)
The peek at my Steddie Xmas fic is under the cut. It's College AU Steddie and it's the last day of finals :)
Students clambered through the double doors of the dorm and Steve’s eyes immediately kept an eye out for Eddie’s red beanie. It was the only color the man loved to wear, and not only did it look cute against his long curls, but it made him easy to spot. Steve searched among the sea of winter hats as they passed, no familiar red one in sight.
Steve was about to turn around when something collided with him from behind. He barely caught himself to push the offender off when he caught sight of Eddie’s red beanie.
“Gotcha, Harrington,” Eddie laughed as Steve turned and then hugged him. “It’s good to be a free man.”
“Freedom looks good on you,” Steve replied, stroking Eddie’s cheek.
Eddie’s hair was dotted with snowflakes and his cheeks were red from the chilly wind. Eddie pulled off his beanie and then unzipped and shed his coat, placing it on the back of the chair. Pieces of snow fell off onto the carpeted floor and melted as he shook snow from his curls.  He wore his black denim jeans with a comfortable sweatshirt that Steve recognized as one of his own.
Eddie pressed his cold forehead against Steve’s warm one before brushing his lips against Steve’s.
Steve cupped Eddie’s cheek and kissed him softly and let his lips brush Eddie’s. Eddie pulled him closer to kiss him deeper before breaking off with a smile.
“So the bio final didn’t kill you like you thought?” Steve asked as he played with the man’s curls, trying not to get lost in Eddie’s chocolate eyes. The stray snowflakes in Eddie’s hair melted against Steve’s fingers.
“Can’t kill a Munson that easy,” Eddie replied ruefully. “But it was brutal. And to think I had to spend all that time focused on mitosis instead of your pretty face.”
“I have know idea how you survived. And speaking of, here’s the reward for surviving finals in your second year of college.” He handed Eddie the other cup that sat on the table, watching the man’s face lit up as he read the name on the cup.

Note
I spaced on sending this when you initially made the post, but if you were ever so inclined to make that full list of recommendations on metafiction/the liminal space of tangential genres, I would be very interested to see it! (the original list was 100% some of my favorite books/media)
Oh man I've been uh. bad at reading as regularly/much as I'd like for the past few years, something I'm attempting to remedy, and I've never been the biggest of film buffs, and as such that covers a lot of the high points.
(obligatory reminiscing): Truly the the most "not actually a real problem" tragedies of my life is that I was a teenager before the Goodreads era and so I was shaped, indelibly, by whatever Collected Science Fiction Anthologies of the Latter 20th Century my local library had circa 2004. As a result there's like a thousand 70s and 80s sci fi stories the titles of which I cannot remember but which are etched deep within the recesses of my brain. Occasionally I have enough details to go to some thread on the internet and say "pretty please can you find it," but often I don't. There's definitely one I'm thinking of in which a group of scientists keep doing an experiment to change the time line and they keep believing that it fails, but as a reader you clearly see the list of names and various details is changing. This is not super helpful to anyone other than to say "go read short speculative fiction." ANYWAY here's a few more.
On the topic of short fiction, Sword Stone Table is a collection of short stories inspired by Arthurian legend which I read last year, and not all of them worked but there were enough to make it worth it (and it's a quick read). Hilariously, the coffee shop AU was one of the more metafictional examples.
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. I don't remember this well but I own a copy and might re-read it; I distinctly recall purchasing it because she made a chapter in the form of a PowerPoint presentation and got interviewed by NPR about it since she could see how many people quit reading at that chapter thanks to eReader data, and I was like "sounds cool". I love when authors are hostile to their audience in a way that's good for them, and I remember enjoying that chapter very much.
I mean your bio quotes Calvino so I'm assuming you're good there but like...I have not read all their work, but I trust Calvino, Borges, Le Guin, and Susanna Clarke to always deliver.
Jules Feiffer's A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears; Diana Wynne Jones' Fire and Hemlock (among other Diana Wynne Jones books); The Phantom Tollbooth; and the various works of Ellen Raskin (best known for The Westing Game but I read so many of her books) are middle-grade or YA but they are in fact a big reason why I eventually became a college student who would read House of Leaves and Calvino for fun and why I became an adult who devoured Piranesi in one sitting.
The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
It's also been a hot minute since I read Possession by A. S. Byatt but I do remember loving it at the time.
For...the best I can put it is "popcorn reads?" low postmodernism? mass-market metafiction? Fun shit? Jasper Fforde is your guy.
Technically The Princess Bride is metafiction. Fun fact: a good friend of mine in college did not realize it was not legit a translation when he read the book. His undergrad thesis was in part about translation. We made fun of him for this.
David Mitchell's literary universe, notably Cloud Atlas. David Mitchell is a very good writer who does tend to have a pretty dark interpretation of our world's future and so I sort of fell off following his works because they were particularly depressing but like, that's a me problem because he's immensely talented. (note: did not see the film adaptation, cannot speak to that.)
I am also going to plug the Teixcalaan books (two so far, starting with A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine which is a bit of a stretch but I'm doing it anyway because I think it’s underappreciated (it occupies the same space in my mind tbh as Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota and to an extent Yoon Ha Lee's Machineries of Empire, both of which I’ve mentioned before, of an incredibly intelligent SF story with queer characters and relationships that was well received but just doesn't have the buzz of some other modern sf series). It’s not metafictional per se, but it does have an incredibly strong theme running through it of engaging with narrative and controlling it (honestly? Similar to Black Sails in that regard.) The Teixcalaan Empire is hyper-aware of language and legend, naming patterns are a number and a word, and the cool thing to do is write complex forms of poetry. The second book also has a character purchasing an indie comic and drawing all sorts of interesting comparisons to her ongoing situation... a little bit like Tales of the Black Freighter within Watchmen.
Run Lola Run/Lola Rennt (I watched it as a non-German speaker with subtitles and enjoyed it)

Tagged by the lovely @briarhips :) to make a post of 9 book recs! thank you!
tagging @bittersweetish @lakevida
Disclaimer: I recently graduated college and it left me Unwell in mind and body, so two-thirds of this list is books I was gripping with both hands to keep me intact thru the Ordeal. Can't speak to my taste but I can say they worked for me bc here I am almost dead and in pieces but alive all the same ✌️ my thoughts on the books under the readmore bc theres like 200yrs of paragraph beneath
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tales of Effendi (Histoires d'Effendi in French): i know him as Effendi, my father knows him as Djoha, he's "a character in the folklore of the Muslim world from the Balkans to China (Wikipedia)." without his wisdom the days eating bread and mustard would not have passed. what would effendi do -> how to bear a situation with humor. the picture above is the edition that i have. (did you know there's a Chinese stop-motion animation of him?)
Jeeves & Wooster by P.G. Wodehouse: stories of a silly young man and his valet (the brains of the operation). these 2 have been my friends through many dangers (physics mechanic/electric) and without them I would have perished. It was a great comfort having company in the mud -> me 🤝 Bertie Wooster: suffering anna komnene-style stress caused by the thoughtlessness of others/professors
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes: the misadventures of the mad knight Don Quixote and his squire Sancho Panza. The thinker's book. a friend of mine who no longer reads read the whole thing in the original Spanish
Lullaby (Chanson Douce in french) by Leïla Slimani: a gripping psychological thriller relating the events and individual psychology/relationships of the characters that led to the crime that opens the book. I don't think the film did it justice and the book is short so I recommend it. I read it a few times over
Vinegar & Char: Verse from the Southern Foodways Alliance edited by Sandra Beasley: a collection of poems about food by the Southern Foodways Alliance. There were some mornings (6am, January, 1hr commute) where I ate stale bread someone left out overnight with a cup of microwaved water or cold red beans. The height of misery. I'd read a poem with my bread and it would be the apricot jam that turned the thread to a rope
The Bartimaeus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud: I finished reading the 3rd volume last summer while coding a final project (horrific) and studying for a final when I had summer classes (4hrs friday evenings in July -> unbearable) so my head was steam and I didn't think much of it. 1 month later when it processed and I was jumping off walls. at my age 🙄. This book somehow has all the stuff that drives me completely insane (caused by reading all of yugioh age 11 🙄) and it made its way to my "books that Did Something to my Fibers" list which I thought closed years ago. I wonder if Bart has this effect on everyone -> A friend (from above) and I had to drive across 2 states to see someone. My friend is Not Well in a different way than me and decided to start this 9hr drive at 5pm (January. high of 50 degrees.) So we drove all the night stopping only for 3min to get gas at 11 at night. This bozo had the Bartimaeus audiobook going nonstop (it was either that or his 2011 playlist, so). Way back, same thing: 9hr Bartimaeus lockdown. Little bit ago he was talking abt some restaurant and said "I want to take you but it's so far! An hour away!" Reader when I tell you I was baffled. "My man you drove 18 hours across state lines?" "Yes but I had Bartimaeus :) I could've done 12 hours with Bartimaeus :) Me and Bartimaeus would have a wonderful time :)" <- statements of the deranged. Anyway it's good reading if you're built how I am or adjacent to it
The Monster Blood Tattoo Series by D.M. Cornish: a high fantasy children's series about a foundling who makes his way in a world beset by monsters. The world building is Incredibly detailed and Bloodborne flavored to give you an idea. Interesting because of the prominence of chemistry and human modification (off-screen) in the narrative/daily life of the story -> people get organs to control lightning/telepathy. Nobody I talk to will read them because they're big books.
The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley: a collection of fairy tale retellings. I like McKinley because she disappears in her fairy tale prose and the atmosphere she builds suits the stories she tells
Garder le Cap by Sempé: a collection of Sempé's comic illustrations, with his characteristic humor and wit
If you make it this far, this is for you ^_^ -> 🍧

Some stuff about (my) Jinx.
Because I want to write, but my head is blue screening on RP threads so have some headcanons.
First thing, I wrote this in an ask, but I want it in an actual post.
Tumblr media
Jinx, post arcane, has the potential to work magic within her. I don't feel like going into deep detail as to why, but basically a combination of shimmer plus her exposure to hextech crystals/energy has made it so she could perform actual magic with all the same ability as someone born to it albeit a lack of skill due to unfamiliarity. Exactly what kind of magic, and what form it would take I haven't decided yet plus to be honest it could probably shift depending on different things such as who teaches her. One idea I do like is her learning to shove the hallucinations she suffers from into someone else's mind temporarily, but regardless there's different options. There's probably small signs here and there of that potential. Maybe how quickly she can move despite not transforming anymore than she already has with her eyes, or whatever else.
The important thing here is that she cannot learn how to harness that ability by herself. She needs a teacher who realizes she has the potential, or decides to try to teach her just as a "well why not try" type thing. She's not consciously aware of it enough, and in most cases honestly isn't stable enough when by herself to actually start trying to unlock that and learn it by herself. Partially because I think that makes sense, and partially because I don't want to just make Jinx randomly more powerful when she's already quite a threat without there being a story behind it.
So yes, she could work with magic now much like any other mage but only if someone picks up on it and teaches her.
Second thing. This is inspired by @arcanescion (thank you!)
Tumblr media
Also partially due to Jinx getting exposed to energy from the hextech crystals along with her being odd/unique/etc Jinx without understanding/realizing it actually picks up on emotions (as in feels them psychically/magical style) but it's not from people. It's from strong enough emotions left behind in a building, or the environment around her. Picking up on those left behind emotions does effect her own emotional state, and normally in a negative way because she's in Zaun and the strongest emotions are almost always negative ones. Jinx has no understanding of this Empathic ability at all. All she knows is sometimes buildings/places feel kind of weird, but it's Zaun all of course Zaun is weird, and sometimes her mood shifts as well getting darker or worse or whatever else (because of the emotions she picks up on) and she doesn't know why and just figures it's cause... well just how she be. She's never stopped to consider it, or figure out why because as far as she's concerned it's just her volatile emotions being volatile. On bad days she considers "feeling like this building is creepy" left over weakness from Powder. It's also not something she likes admitting to people because she fully expects to get teased, mocked, or bullied for it. There's a decent chance she's muttered something before about "don't like this spot it's... weird." or something similar around Silco and/or Sevika however.
Side note: An idea I like is that she saved Silco unknowingly from an ambush once because someone spent 2-3 days setting it up, and she muttered something about "I don't like this area" as her and Silco approached the area and he asked if she wanted to go somewhere else and it was one of the few times Jinx nodded and said yes. Not something I'd shove onto any Silco, but it's a fun idea I think. Bonus points if he finds out a couple of days later about the planned ambush.

Comments: bau super seven loving-reid-a-thon with 159 comment threads
6. Work I’m most proud of (and why):
to seek and to find the narrow way. it's so personal and i was so nervous to post it because of the religious themes but i'm really pleased with how it turned out and i've gotten some amazing feedback <3
7. Work I’m least proud of (and why):
secret storm. i'm not not proud of it! but i wrote it for a challenge and i think i rushed it a little and could've done a lot more with it if i'd given it the time it deserved.
8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:
there's one person who's been reading you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own and leaving long, detailed comments on every single chapter. i love this person so much. every comment from them makes me cry, they quote my work and talk about what they liked and what they're looking forward to. it's a writer's dream.
9. A time when writing was really, really hard:
writing the little scenes that i have to get through to get to what i really want to be writing. it's so hard to slog through sometimes, but it's always worth it once i make it to the good part and it gets easy again.
10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
an upcoming chapter of you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own has a nightmare aftermath scene that i wasn't planning at all but i'm really into it now that i'm writing it and i'm excited to see how it affects the story as a whole. it literally came out of nowhere but i love it so, so much. also, that fic as a whole has surprised me - it started as a really long oneshot and now i'm at about 75k and only halfway done.
11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:
“Oh. Sorry.”
“What are you sorry for?” Morgan asks.
“Keeping you here. Falling asleep on you. Trauma dumping on you.”
“You didn’t trauma dump on me. I asked questions and you answered. And I don’t mind that you fell asleep on me. You clearly needed the rest.”
Spencer buries his face in his hands. “I don’t usually talk about these things.”
“I know, kid.”
“I don’t like talking about these things.”
“I know.”
“I don’t want this to change our friendship,” Spencer sighs. “I don’t want things to be weird from now on. I don’t want you to treat me differently.”
“It won’t change anything,” Morgan promises. “I won’t treat you differently.”
“I don’t want you to be worried about me all the time now.”
“Reid. I was already worried about you all the time.”
from you've got a friend
12. How did you grow as a writer this year:
i wrote a lot this year! i did a lot of sprints, and that made me really productive, and i forced myself to write even when i didn't want to. and i think that was good for me. i also have been making a conscious effort to write what i want to write and not what other people necessarily want to read, and not getting hung up on hits or kudos or comments. if i start worrying too much about what people are going to think about what i'm writing, i stop and regroup and go back to writing what i want, even if that means deleting a whole bunch of stuff.
13. How do you hope to grow next year:
i want to better balance my writing time with the rest of my life. i'm not always good at determining how much writing is enough and how much is too much, and i neglect other aspects of my life in favor of writing which isn't always healthy. i do want to continue to write for me, though. and i've started a trend of writing a chapter ahead in chapter fics so i don't get overwhelmed, and i want to keep that up because it's working really well. i also want to put more effort into brainstorming for the discord fic because i love that one and i feel like i've neglected it a little lately.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):
chris (@domestikhighway58) and maze (@tobias-hankel) have been so supportive and encouraging and spent so much time sprinting with me and chatting with me and reading my little snippets and keeping me motivated to keep writing. they also both write amazing fics that inspire me to write, period. i am endlessly grateful to both of them.
15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:
i mean, i write fanfiction to process my emotions and issues, so yes, a lot of my real life shows up in my writing. spencer's coping mechanisms are my coping mechanisms. his stims are my stims. his autistic traits are my autistic traits. i have dozens of unfinished fics in my google drive that i've used to process issues in my marriage. also, spencer's therapist in one fic is an exact copy of my favorite former therapist, all the way down to her first name.
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
write what you want to write and don't worry about what anyone else is going to think. if there's something you're dying to read and no one's written yet - write it! if you have an idea that won't leave you alone - write it! don't worry about if it's good or if other people are going to like it. you are the most important audience. just do the thing!
17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:
i'm really enjoying writing you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own and now that i have an idea of where it's going to end up, i can't wait to get there. we're only about halfway through, so there's still a lot yet to come, and i can't wait to find out what that is, haha. Besides that, i guess we'll just see what happens. i've spontaneously written a couple of oneshots in the past few weeks and i'd like to do more of those in the future instead of always getting stuck in my long fics.
18. Tag some writers whose answers you’d like to read.

Fae Watches Thundercats 2011
(adapted from my twitter thread because twitter is dying, bear with me while I feel out the formatting)
Hi!  I recently revisited Thundercats 2011, and got super into it!  So, I'm gonna go through it again and livetweet it this time, going into probably way too much detail about my thoughts.  So if that's something you're interested in, you can follow along live on twitter as long as twitter is still there, but also the tumblr edition will be tagged #fae watches thundercats!
My current plan is to watch one episode a week on Tuesday nights, adding to my twitter thread as I go, and then compiling and adapting each episode's commentary into larger posts on here after the fact. We'll see how that works out.
Before we start, full disclosure: I rewatched 2011 because I started watching some of the 80s show with friends.  To be frank, 2011 is the version I really like while 80s is mostly a curiosity, so that's the perspective I'm coming from in the rare times I'll compare the two.
And it will be rare.  I'm not here to compare anything, I'm here to gush about a show I like as its own thing.  But there will be a handful of occasions in the next 26 weeks where I'll have something interesting to say about the different versions.
It's also a real shame that the 2011 version doesn't have a proper opening sequence, so I'll just supply this fan-edited one set to the 80s theme with Will Friedle's "Thundercats, ho!" spliced in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDfbLnWGl70
Alternatively, here's one I edited myself set to the Mew Mew Power theme song.  I made it kind of as a joke, but ended up really liking how it turned out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj3xmHRQkdc
Anyway, without further ado, let's dive into episode one: Omens, Part One

Oh boy, this description's gonna be real funny in a bit.

This one, though, is perfect setup.
For you see, there is...

Rescuing someone from a bully is a classic establishing character moment for a hero, and for good reason. What our main character says here is a perfect establishing line for him because to me, this compassion is the core of his character. There's, uh, some ups and downs later on, but I'll make my case as we go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, as soon as he gets their attention, they leave the other poor soul alone. And he can kick their asses. Action scenes are hard to screencap, so I skim over a lot of them, but if there is something interesting that happens I will talk about it.

in lieu of a commonplace book: may retrospective
what's up ladles and germs, i spent the month of may out of town and jumping in and out of wifi coverage, so this post is has been a long time coming!
reading brought rebecca roanhorse's black sun with me on this trip, started and finished the whole thing on various trains in france. loved the main four pov characters, didn't quite get into it until after the first third or so, but all of the details and worldbuilding were terrific. i can never get enough of a third-party perspective on a character, so seeing serapio through xiala's narration was *chef's kiss* and helped me care so much more about him than his own pov, actually. i wasn't at all convinced by the flash-forward / flash-back introduction of naranpa's situation initially (the conversation she remembers with her parents just felt stilted), but doggone it by the time we came full circle and i saw how the dramatic irony was working, i was onboard. got a kick out of trying to place the different cites around the 'crescent sea' aka gulf, which may not have been correct but was fun.excited to see book two.

honorable mention in this section to the paying guests, sarah waters, which i bought from a charity shop for £2 while visiting bath UK (also at that charity shop: a set of porcelain egg cups!!). how different life might have been if i'd been able to read sarah waters younger in life.
listening downloaded to my phone for train rides, metro rides, walks across the countryside of different countries, etc.: florence + the machine's dance fever (2022) and the eurovision 2022 playlist. i don't have developed dance fever thoughts (except that...the aesthetic for the videos/album art feels more cohesive and possibly more successful than the album? but i did like it?) but i thoroughly enjoy 'free' and 'daffodil', and there are times when 'cassandra' really does hit. apparently she worked with jack antonoff on this album; things i learned while researching this post. i wasn't swayed by the spoken moments, all that much, but 'heaven is here' is somehow captivating? 'king' remains the standout; i do in fact need my bloody sword etc.
Tumblr media
my eurovision thoughts are that everyone should go watch the performances by serbia (konstrakta, 'in corpore sano') and norway (subwoolfer, 'give that wolf a banana'), like, right now. watch them again if you saw them live. also here's a look at the lyrics and message of 'in corpore sano,' which, yes. and my other thought is that, this year, i actually might go out and listen to the other works by a bunch of these eurovision artists, which i realize is?? probably the actual goal of the contest???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
watching finished our flag means death in my buddy's hotel room in london, watched the majority of my brilliant friend: those who leave and those who stay in various hostels with @hematiterings (series thoughts in the next post!), and tried to keep up with strange new worlds when we could. this version of spock entertains me. ofmd was good, i had managed not to be spoiled for the ending.not sure i can find a comment or common thread for these three, but, shows with friends = good. especially when you're footsore and far from home. actually i do have something, showing new trek / uhura to a nontrekkie linguistics person was hilarious.
playing fallow month.
making i may not bullet journal, but i sure did accumulate a stack of interesting things to stick into a hypothetical future scrapbook of some kind. and stickers! I made some good food the week i spent in maine (lots of chicken, an eggplant stir fry that i did have to throw out when i broke the container and got glass in the leftovers, absolutely tragic)
working on this month was the month of Archives Visits so what i made were reservations and emails and notes and pictures of manuscripts. turned out okay though :D EDIT: totally forgot but while traveling i did a zoom interview for, and then found out i had gotten, a small fellowship at my institution for next year. please clap!

Hey Curio!
Not sure where this goes, I don't know if you have a post about accessibility aids that I can't find, but something not a lot of people think of that is super helpful is extendable shower heads. There are ones that can reach pretty far so that you can sit on the floor or on a shower chair, most are pretty easy to install and don't permanently change anything (meaning you can put them up and take them down, replacing them with the original showerhead without your landlord knowing if need be), and can be pretty cheap but high quality. They also mean that you can stick your head over the shower and just wash your hair if you need to, for example.
Just thought I'd send this in case there was a good place for it.
Thank you so much for all the amazing work you do! Truly, your page is amazing.
Have a wonderful day/night!
I don't actually have a specific post about showerheads/bathing aids, but yes you're right! Not a lot of people think about this so thank you for reminding me!
It's actually reminded me that we used to have a cheap little portable one that would attach to the sink taps for the days I physically could not get in the sink, so I will add a link to that below.
-
And here are a few others I've dug up. I know some of these go for well over £500, so I tried to find some cheaper options:
HealthandCare: This isn't a showerhead, but it is a showerhead holder, and it is adjustable. It's about £66, so not great, I know, but I've seen worse. This is UK based, and unfortunately does not offer shipping outside of that at the moment, but they can deliver across mainland UK, and to offshore UK islands. Deliveries to the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and offshore UK islands may have additional charges, but they will contact you about it.
HealthSmart International: I don't actually know if this company delivers outside of the US, so anyone interested will probably have to contact them. This a handheld body showerhead, with a 6ft long hose that "fits standard 1/2 inch threaded shower pipes", which I assume means it can be attached. It also has a little hinge thing that looks like it can be nailed into the wall to hold it up. At the moment of writing it is priced at $34.56.
Essential Aids: This is another shower head holder and adjuster rather than a simple showerhead. It has a "lockable suction cup attached to a showerhead holder" and can be attached to the wall at whatever height you wish. It essentially means you can lower the shower hose to your preferred height, which is particularly handy if you're sitting or cant reach very high to begin with. Unfortunatley, this is priced quite steeply at £116.23 (£139.48 inc VAT), and I'm not entirely sure if they deliver outside of the UK, but there are contact details on their site to check.
Showerhead HQ: This is a US company that deals in everything shower. Showerheads, pipes, extensions etc. etc. I can't find anything on the site to say they deliver outside of the US, but they do have an Amazon shop! Just type in the shop name and hopefully something should come up.
Portable Shower Head: This isn't the exact one that I had but it's pretty damn close. Essentially, you attach it to bath taps or sink taps and then use it like that. This one has two nozzles so would probably be better if you have separate hot and cold taps, but you can easily get ones that need only a single tap. They can be a bit fiddly so I recommend a holder of some kind when you're not using it. But, from experience, they're quite decent, and they're portable as well! This one is about £16.
-
That's all I've got at the moment, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more.
Thank you for bringing it my attention! This has made me realise just how difficult getting a good shower is; I'm genuinely shocked that most of the links of my aids list didn't have showerhead aids. So I hope this helps somebody!

Inspiring craft ideas
I'm always curious about handmade things - those I can make myself and those other people create. So today I'd like to show some eye-catching craft ideas that might inspire us to try something new, similar to what's featured in the post, or maybe give a fresh perspective on our favourite hobbies.
Tumblr media
⬆ @ cakeatelieramsterdam These potted flowers are a wonder! I can't even make it out what they are made of - it's either paper or some kind of fabric... Looking like fantasy flowers, they seem to be so realistic at the same time with all their exaggerated beauty. The pots are so charming!
Tumblr media
⬆ This heart-warming embroidery is by a Buenos Aires-based fiber artist, Adriana Torres My most fav crafting activity is making embroideries. I made the first steps together with my granny who taught me how to do satin stitch embroidery and french knots; but with time I got addicted to cross-stitch only, because it's easy and not time-consuming 0:) These days I'm spotting lots of beautiful embroideries using diverse stitch techniques (japanese embroidery is my biggest inspiration so far). Now I think I should definitely learn many different stitches to be then used in my upcoming projects.
Tumblr media
⬆ image is from boligliv_dk Such a cool origami stars decoration. Actually it's been a while since I wanted to learn to make origami, and this image prompted me even more to do so :)
Tumblr media
⬆ Blackberries by Nicki Franklin In love with this amazing embroidery! This would make such a great design, say, for a tablecloth or sachet pillow...
Tumblr media
⬆...by u_River_Song_ (?) A juicy pomegranate smartly used as a patch on a denim piece! It's a mixed media creation - there're embroidery stitches, cords and crochet parts and, of course, beads.
Tumblr media
⬆ And this is an "embroidered" light shade by an embroidery artist Valeria Faúndez-Chili. Probably an embroidered piece was just glued to the bucket... I don't know the actual size of it, but it looks like a tiny object to me. I imagine it might be found in a cute doll house...
Tumblr media
⬆...source unknown :/ A lovely crocheted coaster for a warming atmosphere during tea time. It would be cool to make a set of matching crocheted coasters of my own... bookmarked! ;)
Tumblr media
⬆...And this amazing embroidery is by a russian needle-and-thread artist, Rosa Andreeva @roniy1983. Every single detail is elaborately worked out, so delicate!
Tumblr media
⬆...by a japanese embroidery designer, Juno This is a piece of beauty I instantly fell in love with! Such a delicate slice of lemon; haven't seen anything like that before. It could be a lovely sachet gift when filled e.g. with lavender flowers.
Tumblr media
⬆...Oil pastel drawing by Matt Fussell in Pastels
+ And here, at domestika.org, one can take an online course to learn how to draw with oil pastels from professionals. Sounds cool, so I'm now thinking of it...
And finally, as a short summary, here's a list of things I'd love to try my hand at in the nearest future:
1. paper flowers
2. surface embroidery
3. different embroidery stitches
4. mixed media embroidery
5. origami
6. crochet coasters
7. oil pastel

Morimyu in Classical reference
Tumblr media
So, as for the fact that music in Morimyu Op. 3 resembles classical music in both progression and musical technicality, it's interesting how it's possible to keep coming up with different interpretations after re-watching the musical again and again.
I've made a thread on twitter about this before, but 1) word limitations and thread will never be enough to list all that I have to say lol 2) I'd prefer to have a fuller version noted down, especially one that I can edit and keep coming back over and over again when ever I come up with something new.
Either way, I am still (lol) not a pro in music theory and music history as well. All that is written here are based on my very very basic knowledge on music as well as something that I've picked up (and discussed) with my friends after watching Op. 3.
What's the point of this?
Why is it important? Lol I always need this to keep myself from writing off-topic but anyways. Why do the music sound good (except for the fact that because it does lol), and what do they represent? Surely there must be, and there always are, other things that are implied not only through the lyrics but also the music, and the flow in general.
Apart from the lyrics and the lines, it's also quite interesting to have a close look at the music - melody and harmony itself - to see how they portray the stories.
Most importantly, the continuality. How did Morimyu manage to insert so many songs and still managing to connect them as a whole? And how did they use music to go beyond what's on the pages? That's the most important thing about musicals - beyond the pages. We don't see stage or anime doing so very often, as they mainly focus on what's already there, bringing them to life as close as possible to how we imagine things might happen.
As for musical, they have the music. They have the arias and the songs. At some point, a character starts singing, and other characters followed suit. They have their very unique way of expressing the plot, and they have the orchestra, the arias where characters get their solo song, and the duets between characters with strong relationships, and the ensemble which emphasizes the plot, and so on.
A funny thing about duets in classical opera, they're often meant to show lovers' relationship because of the harmony but can also use opposition and all to show enemies' relationship. And in SherLiam's duet it's just both of them at the same time - thoughts connected while engaging in a chase, a hide and seek game of mystery. We'll go into that later.
Back to the topic. Morimyu follows the main plot strictly, but also uses their advantage with music to add all the side details that wasn't told in the manga to create a "complete" view of the plot. It is always available for musicals to do something unexpected (like how we never expected Lestrade's puppet show to be a whole 5 mins long piece lol). And where they did that they added arias and duets, they allowed moments where characters express and developed their emotions as well as going with the plan (yes Albert yessss). Of course there's both a good and bad side to this all the while.
💛 The good thing is they went all the way to show us sides of emotions that we don't see much in the manga or stage, the sides of the story that all of them have kept hidden while focusing on their grand plan. 💛 But then it does get too emotional at some point, especially those who came for the plot and the mind games behind all of it (like me - although I won't deny that I had a lot of fun picking out all the emotions behind the music here lol).
Musicals can always go beyond what we knew. As for Morimyu, their music is heavily influenced by opera and classical music, and it's shown quite clear. There is live music playing (instead of the entire orchestra we have a violin and piano duet), and they have distinctive arias and recitatives throughout.
So thanks to that, it's also possible to use a reference from classical music to interpret their songs.
A Sonata formation - The Narrative Series of SherLiam
Yes, songs arranged and analysed with reference to a Sonata formation, especially in the way they progress through the play.
Some notes before getting into the point
1 - Sonata = a piece of music consisting of several movements - very often 3, sometimes 4. First movement-Allegro: With the quick tempo, introducing the theme of the entire Sonata Second movement-Adagio/Largo: Slow tempo, can be emotional sometimes, as well as leading more towards the final movement Third movement-Rondo Vivace: The ending, quick-paced and vigorous, leading the Sonata to a close. A Sonata always has a general theme, a topic. The theme that I chose to write about is Mystery - the Hide and Seek game between the Detective and Lord of Crime
2 - Aria and Recitative = different types of songs used in an opera Recitative: Lines within a song that happens like a real conversation, as the characters sing they are also talking to each other Aria: A solo section where everything else is a freeze frame, while one actor remains and sing their own song about their thoughts, feelings, etc. In this post we're mainly discussing the arias of Sherlock and Liam, and the duet between them. But there's also some mention of recitatives here and there.
3 - Videos used To make it easier to understand which songs I'm talking about, I also arranged them in piano. And also to have a listen at how they might connect. Just in case the videos beneath don't work (they didn't work on my phone), the three songs discussed are Nazo, Liam's solo, Kokoro no Rondo, all piano arrangements.
All of the songs noted in this section are arias and duets from Op. 3 - the Ghost of the Whitechapel. The additional "series" that Morimyu has added spreading throughout the play, Sherlock and Liam's narratives, which portrays both their emotions and the chase between the detective and the Lord of Crime.
First Movement - Allegro: Nazo(謎) song
youtube
Starting from Lestrade's exit after his puppetshow and proceed to the scene, Sherlock's aria introduces the theme of the imaginary hide and seek game that the Lord of Crime has started. The song repeats the word (mystery) over and over again with a continuous rhythm.
Ends with Sherlock just mumbling the word Nazo (mystery) and exiting the stage - no conclusions, just like a mystery that leads into further mysteries with no answer.
♛♛♛ In regards to a Sonata formation, this is the beginning of the entire piece. Quick in tempo, written in 3/4 time and introduces the theme of the entire piece - Mystery.
Uso ka Shinjitsu ka - Lie or Truth song
Starting after Sherlock learns the truth behind Jack the Ripper, wondering if Lord of Crime is a good person after all.
Now I had a really hard time thinking whether this piece should be included or not. For one, it's not an aria. It can be viewed as a Da capo Aria, a development section of the Nazo song, repeating the theme that is introduced, coming and going rather quickly. So, for continuality.
It also does not fit into the series as a whole, being 1) a recitative. The lyrics focus entirely on Sherlock's deduction and whether he should expose the truth or not, etc. so on. 2) The lines in here, unlike the other arias, are taken directly from the manga, so it's not entirely an 'added' element to this chase. 3) Also because if we compare this to a Sonata form, this doesn't really fit anywhere
However, among Sherlock's arias, this song can also be seen as an interesting development as I have mentioned above, so I've decided to have it here, still.
There's another thing about almost all of Sherlock's arias throughout the 2 stages - they never have a conclusive end. The detective's mind is always running, mysteries after mysteries.
Most of the other characters' songs ends with some kind of closing lines, and piano continues to conclude the piece with a strong end, and then goes on to start another piece. All of their problems in the songs are concluded. They made up their minds in some ways.
But Sherlock, his songs always end with him repeating the melody, a capella, and exiting the stage. Piano waits for him to exit, then starts a new song. Or in Op. 2's Mindgame case going straight into the next conversation. We never get to know how Sherlock's songs end, because they didn't really end at those points. There's a hanging sense of waiting for a resolution, a conclusion. Sherlock never seems to have his problems solved within the songs, they just go on and on.
An idea initiates, then something happens and he is once again in the dark. And he spins around within his own mind.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from Op. 2. Even if we look back to his aria Mindgames from Op. 2, this song doesn't really have a conclusive ending as well. He just starts singing, the music stops and he starts shooting and going on, resuming the play. It kind of has been a thing for Sherlock's arias?
Second Movement - Adagio/Largo: Liam's solo
youtube
♛♛♛ The "second movement" - the 'slower' piece - of the series, Liam's aria lol but actually the piano part of this song isn't slow at all but ok. The other side of this hide and seek game. The "development" section of the sonata series, where we see things in a much more emotional way.
This aria is much richer in harmony and melody. Not only Liam's melody, but also the piano's part which plays a beautiful melody in harmony.
I recall an interview where the stage director mentions how the "orchestra" - piano and violin are representations for Liam and Sherlock. It kind of applies here, where his music is created mostly by piano.
There is modulation, emotions rising and elevating quickly and strongly. But the harmony is beautiful, overflowing and rich with emotions. The song repeats certain lines, emphasizing aspects within Liam's thoughts.
Unlike Sherlock's train of thoughts that circles with no destination, Liam's solo has a definite ending in harmony -> Even with all his emotions in mind, Liam still has a goal already set before him. He has a brief moment of slowing down, pausing and sung about his feeling, before resuming the story.
Leading us to the final stage - Kokoro no Rondo.
Third Movement - Rondo Vivace: Kokoro no Rondo
youtube
Rondo formation: Rondo is a type of dance that revolves around a pattern, often ABA, ABACA, or ABACABA - where A is the ritournello ("meguri - kimi ni omou - meguru kokoro no rondo" section) that is repeated over and over with B, C parts in between. Rondo can also be combined with sonata form - this case applies to this song which begins with a key other than the tonic (Fm) before resolving to the tonic key (Fm) to put an end to the entire sonata series. For reference purposes, the last movement of Beethoven's Pathetique or the very typical Fur Elise is also written in a similar format. I also referred to Pathetique quite a lot when brainstorming this post.
♛♛♛ The "final movement" of this Sonata, the final scene of their "Hide and Seek" game. The song's tempo is vibrant and rapid, combining with the dancing sense, all the while strictly following the structure of a Rondo as mentioned above.
This is the stage where Liam and Sherlock's line interacts and reply to each other, as if in a real conversation - just like how the connection between them are now much stronger than what they had before.
In the ritournello, we have Liam and Sherlock's lines intertwining and chasing after one another, emphasizing the "Hide and Seek" element between the two of them.
The song comes to a definite ending, concluding with a strong tonic (Fm) chord. At this stage, there is no more question to be left open, for Sherlock at this point has already made up his mind to take the next step into solving the mysteries regarding the Lord of Crime.
Their imaginary game of Hide and Seek is coming to an end, as Sherlock came to a decision to take the next step - going to Durham.
That's the end of my first draft.
So far that is some of my thoughts noted down right after watching Op. 3 stream a while ago, with some edition made just now.
On the side note, at some point during my discussion with a friend, we also came up with the idea that a Suite may be a better reference. A Suite consists of 4 parts and a prelude, each of them having their specific characteristic. But we didn't go all the way analysing that idea, as 1) we couldn't find a 5th piece that can be added into the series. 2) Even if we did, the Truth or Lie song still would not really fit into the "aria" vibe of this series, as mentioned above.
But then quite interestingly, after a while, I've found another interesting fact that should have been quite obvious but I've missed for (lol) like ages.
The game of Hide and Seek between the detective and the Lord of Crime has begun ever since after Hope's case - that being said, ever since the end of Op. 1
And what is it that we have in Op. 2? "The Mind games of the Lord of Crime". The one where Sherlock went maniac rapping about all the thoughts he has and end up shooting randomly into the wall.
At first it begins like another recitative, but in the later half, the harmony starts to become more harmonious, written in 3/4 time flowing like a dance.
In that section, the melody of the piano and violin part resembles the one we have in Kokoro no Rondo, the Ritournello section, only that the melody of the violin in Op. 2 and the melody that SherLiam sung in Op. 3 are kind of reversed.
Coincidence much?
So now we have a collection of songs from both Opus, it becomes tricky. How do we connect them? And what's the story?
At this point, all these recitatives, aria and duets all in the theme of the Hide and Seek game. And they all connect to each other through harmony, progressions in harmony.
We know that the Mind games of the Lord of Crime has begun from ever since the end of Op. 1. We know that Sherlock keeps wondering about that in Op. 2, and then he wonders even further after he has been tested by the Lord of Crime. "また俺だけのメッセージなのか?" - Is this a message just for me?, as he wondered in the Truth or Lie song. We knew all of that. But Morimyu didn't let that stop them from emphasizing on this subplot even further.
They didn't let the gap between Op. 2 and Op. 3 stop them from making a smooth flow in plot either.
Correction, they didn't simply create a flow. They established a connection, all the while showing a strong progression of Sherlock's thoughts that goes on from Op. 2 straight onto Op. 3.
Very often, what makes a good plot is how their plots and sub-plots intertwine with each other. Morimyu has a main plot that follows Moriarty gang in the plan of changing society. And they have a smaller plot told from Sherlock's side of things. And they have this sub-plot told by harmony of how Sherlock is connected to Liam, or the Lord of Crime, by an invisible thread. A connection that is only expressed that clearly in Morimyu.
We have so many things going on, so many songs throughout the play. But each of those elements are all connected to something else, creating a sub-plot that enriches the main plot.
There is no loose connections. For everything that connects to the main plot, they're also linked to other elements. Each scene and every song has their own meaning not only in regards to other songs, but also to the plot as a whole.
Also, did I mention how Morimyu feels like a grand piece of music?
Opus -> What classical songs had that basically shows the order in which they are written. Morimyu - a title piece itself - has 3 Opus, 3 different parts with the same theme.
Classical music very often had all the different elements in it -> Morimyu had an overture, the song they sing just before the main theme song, just before introducing the stage. Then arias, ensembles and choruses. All of them are connected by similar harmony.
Classical music always had a big general theme, with each section having a smaller sequence connecting to each other. Subplots within a big plots. A Sonata piece has 3 movements, each having their own "sections" of development - expositions, development, recapitulation. -> Morimyu does the same to their plot and subplots, as discussed above.
Also, Opera reference
While Opus 2 used an opera reference to tell the story, I feel like Opus 3 has become an Opera itself. During Op. 2 the arias were mostly very loyal to the manga, taking their lines from the original work, like the Mind Games song. Their story progresses steadily but logically.
However starting from Op. 3, the aria became more independent. They developed and expressed even further what wasn't said in the manga. For instance, the 3 songs mentioned in the "Sonata" above. And there's also Albert's solo, and Patterson's solo and Milverton, which I haven't got the chance to discuss all.
But either way, they spring out of the original story, adding more emotions and "colours" to the characters. The aria became more original, all the while also much more expressive. We get to see new sides of the characters that we haven't seen anywhere before.
Anyways, it's probably time to go back to the main question: How Morimyu used music to go beyond what's on the pages.
-> Musicals aren't simply about music added to acting. The characters on stage don't just simply starts singing for no reason. All the songs are meant to express something, and while they do they also establish various connections to the plot's progression.
We don't get to see much of the characters' emotions in the manga. And we don't see much of the side story, the finer details behind each arc. Every time, Morimyu adds something original to enrich their plot. They express and develop what's already known to all the viewers, especially regarding the emotional and motivational side of the characters.
-> The manga shows us the entire plot, with details related, back stories that lead to the present, and all. But it doesn't give a lot of hint into how characters might feel. Surely, reading between the lines, it's up to the readers to interpret them.
But Morimyu gives us all of that, and they leave it to us to read between the music.
And even if we didn't, that's fine. Then the purpose of all of them linking together would be to create a performance where everything is connected harmoniously, allowing us to be emerged in the world of Yuumori.
-> The purpose of having a stage, primarily, is to allow the audience to engage in, experience and feel the emotions along with the characters they see on stage. The point of having a live stage, a plot, and the music, are all to let us emphasize with the characters on stage.
In Morimyu, we aren't just watching a plot between our favourite characters happening as we know it from the manga. We see a combination of mysteries unveiling slowly, the stories on the side of each characters as they slowly progress forward, as well as emphasising with their emotions in the story.
That's what I really like about Morimyu.
So, WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS?
So I had to scroll back to the top (lol) to quote this and make sure I haven't gone too far from the main theme.
Regarding musical Yuumori, there's always so many things I'd like to talk about. And if I start going on about it then it only gets harder to focus on one single topic.
Since the topic here is Morimyu and their music, especially in classical reference, I've tried to keep everything I've discussed relevant. But whenever I start on something, there would always be something that comes to mind. Like how other songs might also have certain connections, or how they used stage directions and lightings, etc. I really want to look more into stage directions in Morimyu as well, but that would have to wait...
Anyways, I tried to keep this as simple as possible. When I sent the first version of this to my friends, I keep having the feeling that I got too technical with all the theories about harmony and structure lol
And once again, this is only some of my own interpretation of the series that I've picked up.
If something else came to mind... well. Either way, for the purpose of engaging in their wonderful music or for the purpose of watching a beautiful stage just for enjoyment, Morimyu definitely is worth watching. And to watch over and over again. I've said this for Op. 2 but I'll say this ten times as much for Op. 3. Truly magnificent.
And, that's pretty much it that I have for today, I guess.
Thanks a lot to all my friends who gave me lots of inspiration and motivation to complete this ヽ(・∀・)ノ Lots of love to @rikaaki as well ヽ(・∀・)ノ

Slight APWH Announcement:
Nothing concerning!!!! The story is still being written, I am still working on it, and have no intention of stopping, so if you are prone to wearing your anxiety pants, you can take them off now. Don't put them on in the first place. At least put on a cozy sweater with them or something comfortable.
tl;dr: I'm going to be doing some mostly minor revisions to the beginning chapters of the story. Nothing will fundamentally change in the story, but I've been wanting to do this for a while, for a number of reasons, so here's a heads-up. (So if you are really attached to this specific wording of the beginning of the story, go download it on Ao3 ASAP). More elaboration below the cut if you're curious:
I think part of the reason I'm having such a bear of a time with the most recent APWH installments is that I've grown as a writer since beginning the story, and made a few choices in the beginning that I would rather not have been there. Nothing huge, but I think I was too eager to tip my hand on certain aspects of Oberyn's assessment of Petyr, and I really hate the scene at the newspaper with Jeor and Lyanna. I've also always disliked how I wrote part of Sansa giving her statement to Oberyn, and have wanted to edit a throwaway comment of Aegon's inviting Theon to Winterfell a while back.
There are things about the story I really feel like need to be edited, in short, lmao.
So I think I might go back and make a few changes to the first few chapters- The content itself wouldn't change, for the most part, just the way things are presented. I know you're probably not supposed to do this with a fic, but this one turned into a behemoth, and when I began the story, I had no idea what the plot was going to be. Now, I have a very clear idea of what the story arc looks like, and it means that I'm writing in a less serial fashion, and am able to get into case details in a way that doesn't feel absolutely absurd. There are also a few pieces of intended foreshadowing at the beginning that are no longer really relevant, and some things I really feel like would benefit from being reworded.
Like I said, I know this isn't necessarily a typical approach to writing a fic, but A. It is my story, haha, and It's not perfectionism so much as it is genuinely enjoying doing some harmless revision (okay so it's a little bit perfectionism, but i haven't been beating myself up over these mistakes- Jon Arryn would have had to be in like, 3 places at once between chapters 5 and 13 with the way i've name dropped him (not to mention the ever shifting location of Sansa's lemon tree) and while I'm not exactly losing sleep over it, it has been annoying me), AND B. I genuinely do not have any intention of changing this story to make it fundamentally different. I'd like some specific spots to be less clunky, and would like to correct some continuity errors, and in one case, remove a scene where I fundamentally really got journalistic ethics just blatantly wrong. But the story is not going to change.
I'm not sure what the reaction to this will be, but it's going to be something I handle before the next chapter of APWH gets posted (the delay is largely that I'm writing like five chapters at once, because events really spill into each other after this chapter and so I'm treating this next block of chapters as like, it's own story arc. Then there's a subsequent smaller arc involving Sansa at school that sort of runs into the trial arc, and then finale stuff (which i'm keeping quiet about for now but I so desperately want to post- I have such a perfect end oh my god), so like, there is a structure here!!! I promise.
I have NO intention of giving up on this story, ever. Sometimes, it can be a fucking chore to write (all hobbies are like this at some point and this story is SO LONG), but I have such a deep and abiding love for the versions of the characters I've written, and usually, I absolutely love working on this story and pulling all the threads together.
There's also the fact that this story is WAY more popular than I ever expected it to be- like holy shit I never expected people to love this weird concept the way I did. So while I write this story for myself, it's also a labor of love that I love that I get to share with all of you who have enjoyed it so far- everyone who's left kudos, and added the story to rec lists, everyone who's bookmarked it, who've reblogged my new chapter posts- you make me so extremely happy. To those of you who leave me comments- who tell me your theories in the comments and use so! many! exclamation! points! (!!!), who have told me how much you feel for Sansa, for Robb and Ned and Cat and all the Starks- I love you. I don't always have time to respond to all of them, but every comment you leave is just so loved and appreciated. To those of you who send me tumblr asks about the story with your character questions, wanting to know fun facts about the characters and know more about the universe I've created, I love everything about you always, and answering those is so much fun. To the anon who sent me an ask about whether or not Sansa's case ended up on Buzzfeed unsolved in the APWH universe- how does it feel to have left me the single best piece of feedback I've ever gotten on the story? How dare you be funnier than me on my own story? I absolutely adore you.
Anyways, I love you all, I love writing APWH, and I hope you all will not be too irritated by this particular decision. I can guarantee that there are numerous scenes in the future that will make up for any mild inconvenience this may cause you to feel at the moment. Plus, you'll have a good excuse to reread if that's your thing!
I hope you are all having a wonderful week, and that you find a perfectly ripe piece of produce at the grocery store that's also on sale (I have an entire bag of oranges in my fridge because I share Sansa's citrus obsession).

PARTY FAVOURS I CHAPTER 24
first time reader click here
Tumblr media
TWs/Summary: The party, finally. Nerds be nerds. They're all dorks tbh. Booze and partying. Clint is a disaster. Natasha is a queen. I beg for comments from y'all cuz I'm short on serotonin 🥺🥺🥺💚✨
This is a Spotify playlist I made for the first half of the party. Sets the mood 😌
Tumblr media
The party was booming, the room was flooded with a large amount of people dressed in various extravagant outfits. It was enough to sweep my eyes over the crowd only once to take notice of the thought and money people had put into their outfits. I hardly noticed any cheesy "angel/devil" or "sexy cat" ensembles, my eyes caught on gemstones and feathers and floor-length gowns instead.
First Avenger to catch my eye was Thor - only because the people surrounding him barely held back from drooling. Hell, I did a spit-take: the usually graceless giant stood casually posted at one of the snack tables, wearing silver robes embroidered with tiny sparkling gemstones; a sleek, angular crown rested atop his head, his blonde hair was longer, lighter and straight. One look at his ears and the realisation struck me: Thor was Thranduil, the Elven king. It made sense since Peter had the thunderer hooked on the Lord of the Rings movies a couple of weeks ago...
Both Loki and Wanda cleaned up no less nicely. The Witch was wearing a midi dress, airy and soft, in pastel tones that brought out the natural rosiness of her cheeks and the scarlet undertones glimmering in the strands of her hair. Unlike me, she chose to wear a sparkling tiara, which Loki had created after a short debate - it was an intricate material illusion meant to last for at least ten hours.
Loki himself was a work of art: dark and macabre fantasy painting. I could barely tear my eyes away from the pale, tall man clad in dark green silks and brocade. The candlelight threw shadows on his angular face and his sharp cheekbones stood out more than ever: twenty minutes I spent on convincing him to let me put make-up on his face paid off spectacularly. Flickering lights toyed with the emeralds and forest greens of the shiny silk of his vest, giving Loki an ethereal glow. His eyes shone crimson red, making nearby people throw equally startled and appreciative looks.
As for myself, the stares I got were no more and no less than I expected. The dress I'd been aching to wear fit me perfectly, earthen tones, hand-embroidered blossoms and delicate golden threading. The layers of my skirt were just voluminous enough to give me the extra airy, floating walk, the medium-height platforms of my shoes lightening my step. The ropes securing them to my legs were decorated with flowers so delicate they looked real.
The peak of my outfit took an arm and a leg in bribery of the resident sorcerer-turned-vampire, but in the end, even Loki himself could hardly look away from his creation. An hour of research and some serious magic voodoo shit was what it took for the fluttering fairy wings to sit between my shoulder blades. I felt them as an extension of my own body, and whilst flying was definitely out of the question, I could flicker them and felt the delicate brush of Wanda's fingers as she admired the translucent, blue-green, marble-patterned sheen of pure, concentrated magic.
In hindsight, I should have simply bought a set of pre-made wings and asked Loki to enchant them to move on their own. Hindsight... I wasn't good at that. So, in this moment, with the wings syncing up with my jittery nerves, the shiny traitors shook with the force of stares directed at our little trio. There was an absurd amount of gorgeous people and breathtaking costumes, yet even then, we stood out like Mona Lisa in an indie art gallery. Muted 'woah's and 'oh-my-gods' traveled across the room, turning even more heads towards us.
"And you wanted to wear Walmart," I weakly chuckled in Wanda's direction, seeing her wide eyes and Loki's arm rapidly wrapping around her waist, catching her a brief moment before she stumbled. The trickster looked unimpressed and bored for all the world to see, but to me, the slight twitching of his eyebrow told me he wasn't feeling that much different from us girls either.
"Brother!" Thor gestured us over with a drink in each hand, parting the crowd of people easily.
Noah, et tu? I had no choice but to swallow my unease, hoping my concealer and highlighter did their job and my face hadn't lost the sublime glow I was aiming for. For a girl like me, the Fae aesthetic wasn't easily achieved: naturally, I wasn't innocent, I wasn't playful... However, I was mischievous. Plenty of that.
Spotting a semi-familiar face in the crowd of partygoers, I gave the man a lopsided grin and a wink without actually taking note of who he was. Tonight, I would be a fairy. I would play.
"King," Wanda mock-bowed with a laugh, carefully embracing Thor. Even Loki did a brief, composite left-handed tilt with a slight smirk.
"Where's the rest of the gang?" I giggled, immediately making grabby hands for the nearest brightly coloured, fruity concoction that fell into my eyesight. Being sober at a party was not something I had planned to be: first drink went down like water as Thor explained the whereabouts of our various friends.
"Steven and James are with Lady Natasha, there is a knife-throwing contest outside on the patio," As soon as those words left his mouth, Loki immediately perked up, not-so-subtly turning his torso towards the large open area.
"Go," I ushered him. "Win us something, good sir," With a chuckle of my own, I grabbed Wanda by the hand for both of us to give a chaste good luck kiss to each of Loki's cheeks. He smiled as I threw a tiny amount of sparkles at him, shouting "GOOD LUCK!" to his retreating back.
"Princess?" I heard a curious voice pipe up behind me, an arm carefully wrapping itself under my wings. Said arm jerked as the sensitive matter of my wings fluttered away from the touch, shivers running down my spine and making me shuffle in place awkwardly.
"Tickles," I breathed out, voice pitched.
Tony's utterly perplexed face came into view as he gave me an open-mouthed once-over. "Darling..." He cleared his throat. I had managed to rob Tony Stark of his words! "You look... Exquisite." His eyes critically surveyed the amount of make-up and glitter on my face before he lifted the inside of my wrist, touching his lips to the pulse point for two long seconds, stealing my breath away with the simple, intimate gesture. It was by far more powerful than having to get glitter out of his beard if he'd kissed me on the lips, or even on the cheek.
"Congratulations, you've caught a Fae," I grinned mischievously, my own eyes widening at the amount of tiny little details on Tony's costume. Delicate, moving clockwork gears and metals interwoven with dark brown, harsh leather; he wore a tophat decorated with a pair of glasses and both his arms and harnesses had moving details of polished, dull-grey chrome. It was unreal, like Tony had stepped out of a Steampunk graphic novel, like he'd just got done filming the Wild West movie. "Nerd," I affectionately brushed my fingers - glitter-free hand - along the handlebar mustache he'd grown out.
Tony spoke over Thor's laughter, pressing himself closer to me, this time careful around my wings. "Do I get to make a wish?"
"Don't be rude, Tony. The Fair Folk should be treated with politeness and respect," Bruce's amused voice signaled his arrival before I even saw him. His costume and Tony's complimented each other: whereas Tony the wngiy obviously was some sort of inventor, Bruce was a doctor, or perhaps, a chemist. Instead of moving gears, he had an array of brightly coloured vials attached to a gold-and-green embroidered belt, and a single monocle replaced his usual rectangular glasses. The scientist gallantly raised my palm to his lips, fighting a smile of his own. Utter nerds! "You're the most beautiful thing in this room, Princess. Everyone can't take their eyes off you," With that, a brief, bright flash of green blinked in his eyes and then I knew, Bruce and Hulk would be on my back, watching out for me wherever I would decide to go.
The knots in my back, in my stomach, slowly began to unwind, the feeling accelerated by the warmth of alcohol sitting low in my belly. I was happily sandwiched between my two men, chatting with Wanda and Thor, nibbling on the spooky treats that Tony's catering services had provided. They were delicious.
Sam appeared, dragging a flushed Clint in tow. The archer had evidently gotten well into his drinks, seeing as he was holding a horn in one hand whilst the other still barely held onto his head. Despite the costume fail, he seemed to be having the time of his life.
"We need glue," Sam announced, smiling in our direction. "Well, hello, ladies," Briefly, abandoning his bird bro, Sam kissed a giggling Wanda on the cheek and wrestled one of my hands from Tony to peck it, too. "My, my eyes have been so blessed!"
"What are you?" Wanda asked the man curiously, pointing at his... a sort of toga, brown leather shoes that looked more like hooves and a crown of... grapevine?
"Dionysus," Sam mock-bowed, "And this is my Pan. Who happens to be a lightweight and enjoys annoying witches that can throw knives with scary precision!" The man announced, annoyed, whilst Clint just drunkenly giggled as he was helped by Thor - the Asgardian-Elf was doing something to the archer's headdress and putting the wonky horn back in its place, hands steady despite Clint's swaying and squirming.
"Classy," I toasted Sam. "Who's the knife-throwing witch?"
"Natasha," He grabbed a drink of his own. "She went as Yennefer, both fossils are Witchers and Pietro is Jaskier. He looks like a proper court jester in that purple... Thing," The dark man was giggling, too, somewhat tipsy.
"The Ass of America could fit his sizeable rear end in leather pants? How much KY jelly did they use?" Tony snorted mockingly as all of us laughed. I remembered seeing an interview with Henry Cavill and his troubles regarding the leather pants - Tony's question was valid and you can fuckin' quote me on that.
"Man, don't ask me. I've already seen more than enough of him and Barnes in the supply closet," Sam winced, downing the remainder of his drink in one go.
"And what were you doing in the supply closet, Wilson?" Natasha was absolutely breathtaking in the black mesh dress. Pietro next to her looked like a masquerade attendee - in a good way. He had gone with the video game version of Jaskiers outfit and was a bright addition to or our mostly black and pastel coloured party.
Sam grumbled something unintelligible, striking a conversation with Pietro and Clint, pulling the rest of us into it one by one. People came by and went, saying their hellos and asking to take pictures - the party was attended by mostly SI and trusted SHIELD employees with the exception of a few B-level celebrities Tony knew personally, no press was allowed beyond their designated area so all of us could afford some degree of frivolity.
Steve and Bucky - oh my God their costumes were tight - shared kisses and heated glances over the tops of our heads. Bruce's hand snuck under the highest part of my skirt, caressing my legs and Tony's soft pecks on the top of my head filled me with the warmest sense of adoration. Loki, being the gentleman he was, had won both me and Wanda each a stuffed spider which we gracefully accepted, thanking the trickster with a dance.
Or three. Wanda went first, eyes sparkling and smile ten miles wide as she soaked up the admiration, the envious stares of the people in the room. The witch looked simply stunning, she was glowing, and Loki next to her shared the sentiment wholeheartedly - a small grin decorated his face, eyes kindest I'd ever seen them. In that moment, Wanda truly was a princess.
Three and a half drinks in, I swayed gently to the music, unbothered by the smile creeping on my face as I watched the two magical people dance and mingle. "You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey..." Singing along was a pesky habit of mine that manifested itself after a certain amount of liquor circulated through my system. It wasn't like I was a bad singer - my parents had made me take music classes until I was sixteen - but it was generally an embarrassing moment nonetheless. In that moment, I didn't give a damn. "You're as sweet as strawberry wine..." Trust Tony to pick the kind of music I actually knew and liked.
A flash of purple and my glass was snatched out of my hand and promptly downed. Shamelessly grinning, Pietro gave me a look with that cocky tilt of his lips, blonde hair in utter disarray. "That your work?" He nodded towards the dancing couple, giving the empty glass to Bruce who was now watching my swaying with a careful eye.
"My and Loki's," I replied dryly."Thank you," Pietro replied sincerely. "Wanda needed this," Briefly looking me over (fuckin' glitter! I was missing out on so many hugs!), the blonde settled on squeezing my hand between his own. "May I steal your lady for a dance?" He addressed Bruce, seeing as Tony was immersed in a conversation with some dude dressed as Marty from Back to The Future. IT department, maybe?
"You may, but no funny business," Bruce looked godly in his outfit with the stern expression: eyebrows drawn together, lips pursed and irises having just a tinge of green. Hulk watching me added an unexpected sort of spice to our interactions. It made me feel...
"Let's go, Printsesa," Pietro unceremoniously dragged me to the dancefloor, all but stomping over other people's feet, shoes, tails and various other accessories. Boys will be boys... And we danced, and we laughed - until Loki and Wanda floated over to us, promptly swapping partners with fluidity I didn't expect from either of the twins. I watched Pietro spin Wanda with a smile as the Witch shrieked and cursed at her overenthusiastic brother.
"How's it going, Lokes?" I addressed the resident vampire, placing an arm on his shoulders. Tall ass bastard.
"Better than I expected," He admitted. "Although I cannot say I appreciate intoxicated Midgardian males."
"Nobody likes drunk dudes," I rolled my eyes. "I've lost count how many faces I've punched and balls busted at parties. They just don't learn."
"Oh, indeed, you're a fighter, little one. How could have I forgotten?" Loki teased me, doing an elaborate twirl to narrowly avoid the slap I was aiming at his chest. Tall, cheeky bastard.
I definitely should have put salt in his tea sugar.

Infimus Devlog #9: Programming Notes
Infimus' second major update is coming in the next couple of weeks. Leading up to that, I'll be posting here a bunch of past devlogs that really should've been on this page all along. This was originally written 10/13/2021. Hello, been quiet recently but work has been steadily going on. I keep thinking "yeah I wanna release the next update, but this scene doesn't really make sense without the one after so I'll write that one and then drop it", and I also kept adding things and details and mechanics, and repeating all that to the point this update is about 1/4th the size of the game as it currently stands. My estimated release date for the second major update turned out to be a gross understatement. Right now I'd say it's 60/70% of the way there, and *should* be out in the coming weeks, but I'm not gonna set a date unless I'm certain about it.
This Saturday I'll update the game with what I've got so far - there's plenty of character moments and player choices I'm really proud of, and a fighting scene that was so, so fun to write. That's not the major update quite yet, but a pretty robust beta build. Here's a sneak peek:
"I will make your dad puke EYES out of his MOUTH!"
Additionally, I've been working on Cassandra's Sight, a prose prequel to Infimus. It's focused on the rivalry between the Timemaster and Aurelius, the world's most boring supervillain and the world's greatest superhero. I'd call it a Batman and Joker relationship, but that's a bit of a cliche comparison and this one has even more gay subtext. I'll also share the first chapter of that on Saturday. Sneak peek:
But then Aurelius happened, transcending mortality. He had slid so perfectly, so effortlessly into the collective unconscious. Everyone had been waiting, had *always* been waiting, for a hero. Seth realized that he, too, had been waiting for him. Aurelius was beyond human; he was all too human. Aurelius had awesome powers, he had a mildly weird form of precognition. At every point in his life Seth had been plagued by indecision, doubts, fears, anxieties, and had steadfastly refused the call of ambition. Aurelius did not know the meaning of hesitation, and wanted to save the world. Aurelius completed him, and was his perfect opposite. So Seth's hate for him was pure and petty. Hate mixed with fascination, David wishing he was Goliath and also that his stone would pierce the giant's skull. The Timemaster closed his eyes and fantasized. How would it feel to break Aurelius? What lay behind his stony grey eyes, and could he scoop it out with a spoon?
Finally, on a somewhat unrelated note, every day I budget some time to play games and read books and in general consume good media primarily so that I can ~~steal from~~ be inspired by it. I've worked through my backlog of Alan Moore comics and body horror Twine games, so I'd like hear from YOU what your favorite things are, ESPECIALLY in the interactive fiction genre. Loosely defined, of course. Doesn't necessarily have to be made in ChoiceScript, or even to be *strictly* text based. I want to make Infimus the best game it can possibly be, and a friend once told me that creativity is like cooking: you can't make anything good if you don't start with good ingredients. Those ingredients, those tropes and archetypes and techniques of the trade, are what I hope to find every time I start a game, or open a book, or experience any kind of artistic work. To be honest, my friend actually used a slightly different metaphor, based on a much cruder bodily function than eating, but the point still stands. Reply in this thread or DM me or contact me in any other way you prefer if you got any good recs, is what I'm saying. Recommend me good interactive fiction games. Even WIPs, even not ChoiceScript ones. I want stuff to steal fro- I mean be inspired by.
I've been listening to Brian David Gilbert's Abba cover album, in which he pretends to be a different kind of halloween villain for each song. It is, like the chtonic beings depicted in the works of H.P. Lovecraft or any news about the British Royal Family, strangely interesting in a sickly way and also strangely fitting to Infimus' vibe.

I spent too many hours listening to folklore and then falling for these lines, here you have my favourite lines on each song. Bare with me because this is a long post!
the 1:
- you know the greatest films of all time were never made
- but it would've been fun, if you would've been the one
- you know the greatest loves of all time are over now
cardigan:
- when you are young, they assume you know nothing
- once in twenty lifetimes
- you drew stars around my scars
- i knew you tried to change the ending;peter losing wendy
- but i knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss, i knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs
the last great american dynasty:
- "how did a middle-class divorcée do it?"
- their parties were tasteful, if a little loud
- it must have been her fault his heart gave out
- free of women with madness
- i had a marvelous time ruining everything
exile:
- with his arms around your body. laughin', but the joke's not funny at all
- like you'd get your knuckles bloody for me
- i think i've seen this film before, and i didn't like the ending
- i'm not your problem anymore, so who am i offending now?
- there is no amount of crying i can do for you
- we always walked a very thin line
- you didn't even see the signs
my tears ricochet:
- and if i'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes, too
- if i'm dead to you, why are you at the wake? cursing my name, wishing i stayed
- what a ghostly scene
- you hear my stolen lullabies
- you had to kill me, but it killed you just the same
mirrorball:
- i'm a mirrorball, i'll show you every version of yourself tonight
- and when i break, it's in a million pieces
- you'll find me on my tallest tiptoes, spinning in my highest heels, love
- i can change everything about me to fit in
- i'm still a believer, but i don't know why. i've never been a natural, all i do is try, try, try
seven:
- please picture me in the trees
- love you to the moon and to saturn
- please picture me in the weeds, before i learned civility; i used to scream ferociously any time i wanted
- cross my heart, won’t tell no other and though i can't recall your face i still got love for you
august:
- your back beneath the sun, wishin' i could write my name on it
- and i can see us twisted in bedsheets, august sipped away like a bottle of wine, 'cause you were never mine
- so much for summer love and saying "us", 'cause you weren't mine to lose
- but do you remember? remember when i pulled up and said "get in the car"
this is me trying:
- could've followed my fears all the way down
- they told me all of my cages were mental, so i got wasted like all my potential
- you're a flashback in a film reel on the one screen in my town
illicit affairs:
- what started in beautiful rooms, ends with meetings in parking lots
- a drug that only worked, the first few hundred times
- don't call me "kid," don't call me "baby". look at this godforsaken mess that you made me, you showed me colors you know i can't see with anyone else
invisible string:
- i used to think i would meet somebody there
- and isn't it just so pretty to think, all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?
- a string that pulled me out of all the wrong arms, right into that dive bar
- one single thread of gold tied me to you
- hell was the journey but it brought me heaven
- time, wondrous time gave me the blues and then purple-pink skies
mad woman:
- what do you sing on your drive home?
- does she mouth, "fuck you forever"?
- every time you call me crazy, i get more crazy
- there's nothing like a mad woman
- now i breathe flames each time i talk
- what a shame she went mad, you made her like that
epiphany:
- with you i serve, with you i fall down, watch you breathe in, watch you breathing out
- something med school did not cover someone's daughter, someone's mother
- only twenty minutes to sleep but you dream of some epiphany
- just one single glimpse of relief to make some sense of what you've seen
betty:
- you can't believe a word she says most times, but this time it was true
- but if i just showed up at your party, would you have me? would you want me?
- i dreamt of you all summer long
- will it patch your broken wings?
- standing in your cardigan kissin' in my car again
peace:
- no, i could never give you peace
- but i would die for you in secret the devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me
- i'd give you my sunshine, give you my best but the rain is always gonna come if you're standin' with me
hoax:
- my only one, my smoking gun, my eclipsed sun
- your faithless love's the only hoax i believe in
- i am ash from your fire
- you knew the hero died so what's the movie for?
- you knew it still hurts underneath my scars
- my kingdom come undone, my broken drum, you have beaten my heart
So yeah, thank you again @taylorswift for giving me another album to be the soundtrack of my nonexistent love life and just being around for so many years🤍✨ keep shining and being the lovely human you are. I love you.
