OKAY SO

This one has been on a convoluted journey. This was my original parkner fic idea that I tried to file the serial numbers off of and turn it into an original work (Blue like don't forget about me) which went terribly bc I hung onto a few plot elements that make NO SENSE outside of marvel's batshit mcu.

SO

We Were Gods (we were kids) is back to being a parkner fic. And I have like 100k written for it but the character names are wrong and slightly to the left of in-character and the beginning and end need to be rewritten. It's my Childhood friends to estranged almost-lovers to rivals to Best Friends (remix edition) to lovers but for real this time epic.

You'll get the gooey heart-eyes best friendship that toes the line of something more in the beginning (childhood friends), and then Peter moves away from Rose Hill to NYC and we jump to the teen years where Plot™ happens (estranged almost-lovers). Peter gets his spidey powers and flubs them so hard he causes the blip which vanishes Abbie out of Harley's life and leaves him alone. Alone Harley™ makes Bad Desperate Choices™ which leads to him getting entrenched with Hydra which means when the blip gets unblipped, he's on Spider-Man's shit list (rivals).

Harley was born with the burden of responsibility on his shoulders—or rather he was handed it in a swathe of pink blanket when he was two. He stopped trying to buck it off when he realized his baby sister wasn’t going anywhere and having a new baby in the house made Daddy worse, not better. He resigned himself to living with it, protecting it. Soon enough, he can’t remember a time before the burden, he can hardly tell where he ends and the burden begins. Couldn’t put it down even if he wanted. Peter had responsibility dropped in his lap as a teenager—unrequested and unexpected. He tries to carry it with grace and dignity but it’s too big. He stumbles doggedly onward with buckled knees until it overwhelms him and he falls. Fails. Fails the entire planet. When he comes back that failure sticks with him as he fights not to squander his second chance to put an end to this mess.

🛋 [COUCH W/ LAMP] -> Where does your Original Character live? As in, where do they reside - one of the many stables across the Jorvegian Peninsula, or do they own an apartment/home within one of Jorvik's Cities?

Ruth does have a home to return to if she wishes, which is Johann's family farm (precursor to places like the Goldspur farmlands). But she's essentially a frontiersman for the Jarlaheim settlement so her usual home is wherever nature gives her the materials to build one.

Modern!Ruth has no permanent home. She can usually be found in places like abandoned storehouses, haylofts, and tree houses. Pre-built spots, if you will. Often in Harvest Counties. She does also build secret shelters around the map that tend to be built in a hillside or underground so they're virtually invisible. Yes, she basically makes Budget Hobbit Holes™. It's a very high compliment if she shows you one of those.

👥 [TWO PEOPLE] -> Has your Original Character formed any special bonds on Jorvik? Be it romantic, platonic, or a third secret option. Who have they bonded with?

Note: I may as well treat this as a light intro to the Medieval cast since just a list of OC names means nothing if people don't have an idea about who they are. This one does involve others' OCs and thus is an approximation based on what info I remember. So it may not be entirely accurate.

All of Ruth's and Johann's relationships both with each other and with other characters are platonic/familial by default.

Johann is Ruth's unofficially adopted son/little brother and a member of the Drake family. Ruth knows Johann through working with Ms. Drake. He is the "extrovert who finds and adopts an introvert" to Ruth and has a better moral compass than Ruth does, ironically. In the Medieval headcanon, his family may be Drake ancestors but they are not a medieval version of the game NPCs. Ruth does work for them for some of her early years in Jorvik. She's kind of his guardian as well.

William (Ravenyour. The player deleted her blog) is a Jarlaheim soldier that Ruth sees pretty often since she works with the livestock, including the horses. He caught her up on archery and horse riding once she upgraded to leysingi, and she became a guide for his patrols.

Renata is probably the first Jorvik native Ruth encounters (whether Ruth knows it or not). They're similar in some ways. Ren is quiet to start with, while Ruth is completely mute until she feels comfortable. So theirs is likely the kind of friendship that starts over common chores they have to be in the same place for and grows from there.

Astrid is a shieldmaiden of the Dundull settlement (under a different jarl) that Ruth bonds with as a fellow explorer. Pretty sure that's gonna become a friends-to-reluctant-enemies situation. Remember when a rival jarl showed up in Elli's Halloween comic? Yeah, it's that.

Suka is a Kallter and is probably the last member of the OC cast Ruth meets because of the distance and terrain between them. Don't have much worked out but at the moment she and Astrid run into her at the same time.

There is also a Vala called Lyssandra whom Suka knows before Ruth does. Haven't worked out how or when Ruth meets her but I imagine it's in somewhat close proximity to when Gunnar last meets Sive. _

⛰️ [MOUNTAIN] -> What is your Original Characters favorite spot on Jorvik? Are they more of a nature lover, or do they need the fuzz and buzz of the cities?

The Graydew Mountain Pass (the path we take to Epona the first time). It's a rough trail that most don't like to attempt but her mule is more sure-footed than most of the horses (plus the view and nature's bounty on the other side are great). The Pass may or may not become an escape route for Jarlaheim's inhabitants at some point as well.

It's a toss up between Greendale and Hollow Woods, though HW might come out slightly ahead because of the stream going through it and a water source is very appealing when you're a drifter.

She has no real issue with civilization or people in general. It's just more effort than it's worth to engage with most people when they're expecting you to talk and doing so is rather hard.

I see enemies to lovers slammed for like ‘romanticizing abuse’ with like the worst possible examples. Like bookbitch69420 is saying something like ‘smh this book proves enemies to lovers is a bad and toxic trope’ and the book is a dollar store ya dystopia where the pairing in question kissed after attempting to murder each other. The problem lies not in the trope, but in the execution. So please, enjoy my rant on how to properly execute my favorite angsty trope.

One of the most important things for rivals/enemies to lovers is that they start on a basis of mutual respect. This tends to be the stepping point for any romance that may ensue. This does not mean that they like each other. They should hate each other, but respect the other. Some thought processes may be:

“I think you’re an asshole, but your skill in xyz is great.”

“You and I are on different sides of a battlefield, but you fight wonderfully.”

“I find you dislikable, but you are a cool person apart from being insufferable.”

“I am your archnemesis, and I find you are quite diligent.”

This is often why superhero/supervillain ships are popular, as it is often shown how both sides admire the other. Another way to establish this mutual respect is to shower it in angst by making the enemies in question have a past together. Perhaps they used to be best friends, maybe more. They were happy together in the past, but something happened to drive them apart. 

After one has established the mutual respect, next comes The Bonding™. This establishes an emotional bond between the pairing. Maybe they’re stuck together in a room so they talk. Maybe they reminisce about the time before they hated each other. Maybe they must begrudgingly work together on a mission. One of my favorites is the hero showing up at their archnemesis’ door because they didn’t know where else to go. Either way, something happens, and they part thinking, “Maybe they’re not so much of an asshole after all.” There is now emotional weight in between them and that leads us to the next part.

After they bond, you have some choices. You can have them continue to fight on opposite sides, albeit with more emotional weight than before, or you can have them be friends now. If you’ve done friends to enemies to lovers, than maybe someone is glad to see their friend peeking through the rage, or have them be glad to have their friend(s) back. If it’s enemies to lovers, with anything in between, maybe the fights are more amicable and the insults are more affectionate than scathing. If you want to go a little angstier, maybe they return to their usual routine, but they can’t stop thinking about that time spent with the other, which often leads to more bonding sessions.

Now you may be thinking, “Ash shut the fuck up what about the “Italicized Oh”?”

The ever so awaited “oh” that you find so delightful can honestly go anywhere. My favorite part to put them is during or after the bonding, like maybe one is laughing and the other is like “shit they’re really pretty”, or maybe after it happened, and one is like “okay no I do not find them attractive bc they opened up to me” or during the friendship part.

Now this next part is entirely optional, pointless, and sometimes unnecessary, but it’s so angsty and I love it. The Not Quite Betrayal is always great, as when the enemies are shown to be mutually pining after each other, uh oh. It looks like someone doesn’t like this, and they’re about to sabotage the love that’s blossoming. Maybe one had ulterior motives originally, but they’re revealed by this third party. Maybe one is framed for something they didn’t do. Either way, one is feeling betrayed and the other is beating themselves up. They angst for some time, and maybe one realizes ‘’oh shit, they wouldn't actually do that’’ or ‘’I have to show them I really did change.’’ Boom. Reconciliation.

At this point, the Love Confession will seem a lot healthier and you can do whatever you want.

have been cooking

And I have not been forthcoming lol Everyone kind of disappeared all at the same time so I kind of stopped talking about what I'm doing but I have been biding my time, quietly putting mechanisms into motion and plotting and occasionally cackling over my cauldron.

I finished the first draft of Blue like don't forget about me and didn't like it so I cut out all the sci-fi fantasy stuff (bye bye aliens farewell superpowers) and in November wrote a new first draft that's all contemporary romance babeee and I'm so in love with it I'm turning it into a little 3-part (possibly 4 if I can't control myself) series.

The original childhood years have been split off into a prequel novella called Red like my bleeding heart in your hand. Then Blue like don't forget about me will take place 20 years later. Nash works at Cherished Hope Nursing Home

OKAY SO AND THEN the next book will be Jo's POV and is called Violet like these delights. and MAYBE there will be a 4th from Luke's POV bc he gets to live this time by the grace of god (me) but it'll depend on how Violet goes (its current state is mostly vibes and a single overarching theme so, stand by).

Red needs a clean-up round of edits to snip out the few little threads that connected it to OG blue. And rewritten blue is basically done. I've done the major revisions and am about to start line edits and after those are done I'm sending it out to beta readers (lmk if you're interested).

The series title is Wildflowers of Deliverance. Which I'm extremely proud of. Did you notice did you notice how each title incorporates a wildflower did you did you? and the town they grew up in where Nash and Teddy first met is called Deliverance!!! It's okay I know I'm a genius.
