The hotel bed is large, big enough for four of you. The blankets are thick and the soft, the pillows a perfect balance of structured but plush. Sunbeams stream onto the mused sheets, warming your face. It’s nice, but only as nice as the calm before a major tropical storm can be. As your phone alarm blares next to you, you start to wonder if being caught in a category five hurricane would be better than press junkets.

A whole day talking to people about a movie you made months ago that you know jack shit about. Sometimes you have nightmares about giving a book report on a novel you’ve never even opened (you’re how old? And high school is still haunting you? Jesus, you need to go back to therapy) that cause you to break out in a cold sweat and kick all the covers from your bed and buy a bunch of stuff online to distract yourself from your racing heart and shaking hands.

Still, those are never as bad as interviewers asking about character arcs and plotlines and your relationship with actors you’ve barely (if ever) met and whatever else a normal interviewer would ask a normal interviewee when all you know is your character, the fact that she does shit with magic, and she’s Dr. Strange’s daughter. Anything other than that is anyone’s guess.

Your stylist and makeup artists are the ones to eventually drag you out of bed and plop you into hair and makeup after squeezing you into an incredibly tight pair of jeans and a non-controversial sweater. The forty-five minutes are a complete blur, but then again, nothing feels real until Sebastian hands you a large coffee in a travel cup that bares no logo or other kind of copywritten signifier – your knight in shining…cardboard? What are travel coffee cups even made of? Paper? Can paper even “shine?”

You’re nearly purring when the taste of caramel macchiato burns your tongue. “Ah. Thanks, Seb. I appreciate it.”

Sebastian shrugs, sipping at his own drink masquerading as generic brand. “No problem. I didn’t want you to bite an interviewer’s head off this morning. Or worse, mine.”

You play-hit him in the face and laugh with him, making small talk and trying to kill the time before the mind-numbingly long day really begins. You’re halfway through a rant about the woes of make up artists trying to put you in a full face of makeup to a man who barely has to put on concealer, the fucking asshat, when Chris makes an appearance.

“Hey, guys,” he’s is also drinking coffee from the unmarked travel cups. He looks you up and down before taking another sip. “You look really nice today.”

You blush, smoothing out your sweater – one of the color-blocked ones that sits at the intersection of casual, feminine, and not-intimidating. “Thanks, you too.”

Sebastian’s about to say something snarky when someone wearing a headset calls upon the three of you.

“Let’s get going, people!” she calls, ushering you into three barely-comfortable seats. You’re between Chris and Sebastian, the sheer mass of them making you feel approximately three feet tall. It doesn’t take much to forget how large they both are – even if Sebastian doesn’t weight two hundred pounds anymore and Chris was able to tone down his exercise regime since finishing Infinity War, you still feel like you’re sitting at the big-kid table for the first time.

The first interviewer is from some YouTube channel you only know because your fourteen-year-old niece gushes about them every family dinner. The woman who sits in front of you is young, cute. Dresses trendy, dark eye makeup and red lips.

She’s nice, too, along with being knowledgeable about the projects of each of you. She banters with Sebastian about his seven million movies before turning to you.  

The interviewer turns to you. “And you! You’re nominated for some pretty major awards!”

You smile wide, unable to help yourself. “Yeah, best actress and best original score.”

“That’s so cool,” Chris mumbles. You blush and pretend not to hear him as you speak again.

“It’s just super crazy,” you tell the interviewer. “Not even gonna lie. When I was younger, I would look at stars who like, cried when they found out they were nominated. Not even winning, just their name shows up on the ballot. But now I’m like, it’s me, two-time Grammy nominee! I was nominated for a Grammy, twice!”

Sebastian chimes in, laughing. “When we were at bunch together, I got there early and the caterer showed up and they were like, we’re here for the two-time Grammy nominee?”

“You had a brunch?” The interviewer asks.

You nod. “Yeah, I bunch of the Avengers cast and the cast from my last movie were in my hometown, which is super rare, so I hosted this giant brunch-”

“As one does,” Sebastian chimes in with a crooked smile.

You nearly hit him. “Yes! As I do! I wanted to see all my friends, whom I love, so I host a brunch. Sue me! Anyway…I hosted this brunch and invited a bunch of people over. Just a bunch of my favorite food from my favorite restaurants. Everyone I’d wanted to see for such a long time was there. It was amazing.”

The interviewer paints a faux frown across her face, looking at the man on your right. “Chris, you look very sad.”

“I didn’t get invited to the brunch,” Chris frowns. Unlike the woman in front of you, he looks genuinely sad. A twinge of pain bounces in your ribcage, and you rub his cardigan-clad back

“You were out doing Broadway shit!” you laugh. “You were halfway across the country!”

Chris continues to frown, staring at the printed-out pictures from the social medias of various guests. A few are from yours – you in a flowy sundress with your head thrown back laughing, a shot of you and a few of your friends from college drinking alcohol in the bright mid-afternoon sun. One you recognize from Sebastian’s Instagram, another from Hemsworth’s. A few from Twitter of a few of your non-movie-star friends. You look so happy in all of them, so beautiful in each shot. “I still wanted to be invited.”

You just roll your eyes. “Okay, call me when you’re in my region of the country and I’ll host a brunch,” You touch your forefinger to his nose. Chris blushes, profusely, in his cheeks and his ears. “just for you and me.”

You don’t hear much after that, too focused on Chris’ eyes meeting yours and his small smile. You’re taken aback by how sweet, tender he looks, and before you know it the interviewer is saying goodbye and the next one is taking her place.

It’s a man this time, a little older than the last one with artsy facial hair and a button hip. He mostly pays attention to the two men and soon your brain goes on battery-saver and you’re lost in your own thoughts.

Are hipsters still a thing? Is that what this guy is trying to be? Do hipsters even like Marvel? Is that too “mainstream for them?”

Eventually he asks a question about you, your recent entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, your music, your composing. You’d be happy to talk about your passions, of course you are, but the first genuine question of the interview is positing towards…not you. You’re about to tune everything out again, but then Chris speaks and you snap back to attention.

“It’s always interesting to meet people who bring something new to the art form, ya know? A huge part of acting is learning and evolving and all that, especially from other actors,” Chris avoids your gaze, and the gaze of everyone else, as he speaks. “If you stop learning, if you stop growing, what’s the point? Why would I do this job if I didn’t think it could change me for the better?”

It’s one of the things you enjoy most about Chris, how dedicated he is to acting as more than a job. It’s amazing, truly, how much he adores what he does. You could spend the rest of time with him, a plate of cheese, and a bottle of wine; listening to him talk about how he thinks of acting as an art, how that art can impact people and society, how actors have a responsibility to that art (that is, of course, after you mock him endlessly for Not Another Teen Movie and Fantastic Four).

You feel like a high schooler again, doodling your first and his last name in hearts in your math notebook with your favorite pink glitter pen. You’re an adult, why are you blushing red as a raspberry every time he says something smarter than a fast food order?!

The rest of the day goes down in a blur, the only time you start to care again when someone on the production staff calls for dinner (yeah, no lunch on press junket day. You can ask for a light snack, but you learned the hard way a full meal is “bad for your figure” and “makes you likely to burp on camera” and a bunch of other stuff you care very little about).

All three of you groan in happiness when you enter the room designated as craft, the thick smell of barbeque hitting you like a baseball bat. But a good baseball bat, though, like…one you ask to be hit with. Honestly, you have no idea what you’re talking about because you’re so hungry.

When you finally manage to scavenge food, Sebastian’s right behind you as you stare at a very delicious looking tray of pulled pork. Your plate is already full, but what if they take the food away? And then what if you get hungry later?

“You know he’s flirting with you, right?” he whispers as you watch the man in question scroll through Twitter on his phone. Chris is eating about the same thing you are, plus celery. You almost make a quip about it being “nature’s floss,” but then you realize that would be dumb because Sebastian definitely wouldn’t find it as funny as Chris would.  

You shrug, picking up a French fry from your plate. “Yeah, but you were, too.”

He scoffs into his second Americano of the morning. “Nah. Not like that. He likes you! He like likes you!”

“He does not-“

“And you like-like him!” He boops you on the nose and pinches your cheek like some sort of grandmother who hadn’t seen her fifteen-year-old son since he was five. “My little baby has a cruuuush!” he coos while making small kissy noises.

You’re about to bite back about how you’re not that much younger than him, but then the sound guy on the other side of the meat tray glares at the both of you. “Sorry,” you both mumble, shrinking away from the persecuting techie and his judgmental eyes.

Sebastian only talks again when you find an unpopulated corner, devoid of prying eyes and anyone who could be annoyed with the two of you gossiping like high schoolers.

“You know I’m not wrong, right?” he says around a bite of crisp apple. What is up with this guy and fruit?  Sure, he’s on a restrictive diet for a role to keep him from bulking up (something at the intersect of keto and vegetarian but able to eat lean meats) but he’s can’t eat like, the vegan stuff? Why must he always eat like rabbit in your presence? “Have you not seen what he says on Twitter?”

You scoff. “No, because I don’t have a Twitter. And neither do you!” You narrow your eyes accusingly. “How do you know what he posts?” Sebastian rolls his eyes. “I see screenshots on Instagram, first of all. Second, he could be complimenting your music on the inside of a cave. It’s about the principle.”

“That doesn’t make any sense,” you hiss. “Also, I’m done arguing with you about this. Let me find a cheeseburger and eat in peace. Is that too much a woman to ask, Sebastian!?”

He just laughs you off and lets you eat in peace, eventually getting his own food. Though, you suppose the meal was specially timed, because then Chris Evans is sitting next to you.

He’s about to say something, too, and you’re about to listen, but then you get called for an individual interview for a women’s health magazine and you have to leave him and you plate of food and fuck…you hate this job. A lot.

The interview is boring, once again, and the next time you have another coherent thought you’re taking the elevator back up to your hotel room and waving off your manager, who is telling you to be downstairs by seven tomorrow to catch your flight back home.

You’re just kicking off your heels when you hear a faint knock at the door. When you look through the peephole, you see a very sad-looking Christopher Evans. With his small frown and hunched shoulders, he looks like a kicked puppy; and even though all you want to do is take your bra off, you let him in.

You snort. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Chris smile a little wider as you laugh. “Yeah. Other movies I can talk about like, characters and plots and shit. With these I live in constant fear I’m gonna pull a fucking Ruffalo and get my ass fired from the best paying gig I’ve ever had.”

Chris laughs with you, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Word.”

An awkward silence fills the room and you find something, anything to do to avoid his heavy gaze under those thick eyelashes and his thick beard that you just want to run your fingers through or his even softer hair that you want to mess up while you-

“Do you want to get dinner together sometime?” you blurt. You’re ready to take back the words as soon as you say them, wanting to backtrack or say “just friends” or “ha-ha, just kidding!” or something else that absolves you of non-platonic commitment.

By a long stretch of luck that you can’t even begin to thanks a long number of deities for, Chris doesn’t laugh at you or turn you down or even walk out of the room. He meets your gaze with excitement in his eyes and a smile wider than your home state. “I’d love to,” is all he says. It’s all either of you get to say before his phone rings loudly, and the name of the head of security flashes on his screen. He sighs loudly, apologizing as he takes it. Somehow, you feel more awkward as he turns away and answers the call. You fidget with your hands, with a loose thread on the sweater you’ve come to hate more than anything else in the world, with your phone. Nothing makes it easier to face Chris again once he hangs up.

“That was…,” he laughs lightly. Not laughing at you, maybe at life or how weird his life is, but never at you. “You know. They fixed my key and want to give it to me in person.”

We do magic when we need it and are sometimes good and sometimes not about our daily magical practice. We might not meditate every day (or let's be honest, ever) and that’s IF our lives aren’t insanely busy at the moment. If things do get crazy busy? You can kiss the vast majority of that goodbye.

Humans are creatures of habit. The vast majority of our lives are dictated by a complex series of habits that we hardly ever even think about! If you really want to make witchcraft a daily thing, you have to make it a habit.

Habit forming can seem complex if you’re new to it but with a little bit of knowledge about how habits form, it becomes incredibly simple. Habits are made up of 3 key pieces. If you want to establish a new habit, you have to have all 3 pieces in place or the habit won't stick.

#1: The Cue - The cue is what tells your brain it’s time to initiate your new habit. This cue needs to be something you are already doing every day, maybe it’s right after breakfast or your morning shower, maybe you use the moment you get back to your desk after lunch, or maybe you work it into your nightly routine. Whatever you choose as your cue, make sure it’s something you already do every day and make sure that you use the same cue every time.

#2: The Habit - This is the actual habit that you want to create. Whether it’s writing in your journal, meditating for 3 minutes, lighting a candle for your gods, or stirring an intention into your coffee, this is when you want to perform whatever action you’re trying to incorporate into your daily routine.

#3: The Reward - The reward is a crucial step in habit formation! Lack of reward is the primary reason why new habits fail to persist. You absolutely must follow your new habit with something that makes you feel good. Now, for many of you, this reward will be built in. Maybe your reward is the caffeine you get from your now magical coffee, maybe it’s the sense of peace and calm you get from meditating, maybe it’s just the chance to get a moment of quiet in your workday but whatever it is it needs to be consistent. If you’re the kind of person who sometimes feels great after meditation and sometimes doesn’t, then that feeling cannot be your reward! You’ll have to pick something else to reward yourself with. Even if the reward is smiling to yourself and giving yourself a quick “Awesome job!” after completing your new habit, you must find some way to end the habit on a positive note. The last thing to keep in mind, this reward needs to be instantaneous! Don’t reward your habit with the promise of chocolate later in the day, if you want the habit to stick have the chocolate as soon as you’re done.

6. Get out in nature

Sometimes the bustle of life just kind of drowns out the magic. If you’ve ever gotten to the point where you’re so worn thin that you couldn’t have felt the energies necessary to work magic even if you wanted to, you know what I’m talking about. There are times when it feels like that world of magic that we all love so deeply is about a million miles away. When this happens, one of the best ways to reconnect is to get outside. You don’t have to carve out a ton of time to go out and be by yourself in nature, even just 10-15 minutes of walking with a friend in the park can really help to reconnect you to your witchy roots. Get out, experience the raw natural world around you and don’t try to force anything. If all you can do is take a few minutes to appreciate some pretty trees and get moving, that’s plenty. You don’t have to reach a state of ultra-connectedness on this walk, just get out and experience it without needing to rush off somewhere or battling distractions!

7. Spend some time curating witchy music

Music can be an amazing mood modulator. Creating a playlist of nothing but music that makes you feel really witchy can be a great way to jumpstart your witchy mood anytime you want to. It doesn’t have to be stereotypical pagan music, you can skip the Celtic music if it doesn’t make you feel like a witch, and Stevie Nicks does not have to have a place on your playlist unless it makes you feel magical. Personally, I love listening to instrumental guitar music like Chon or putting on some Florence + The Machine. The only thing that you need to take into consideration here is whether or not it makes you feel witchy! Whether it’s rap, top 40’s, or Gregorian chanting, it just needs to get you into a magical mood.

8. Re-read your favourite witchcraft book, or pick up a new one!

When I’m really feeling stuck in my craft this is my go-to. I’m a big reader and find that my moods and interests are often very responsive to what I’m reading at the moment. If you have a favourite witchcraft book that you love, pick it up and re-read it! If you’re not big on re-reading, find something new. It doesn’t have to be a “how to” manual about the craft, choosing fiction, memoirs, or even historical accounts can be so inspiring! Below I’ve listed some of my most recent favourites in case you need a recommendation to get you started.

The Physick Book Of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe - This book is a fictional account of a modern day witch discovering her magical heritage. It pulls heavily from pre-modern American witchcraft and is a very fun read for those of you who like witchy fiction.

Witches Of America by Alex Mar - Witches of America is a memoir of the authors exploration of American witchcraft. She explores a myriad of subcultures including Feri, the origins of Wicca, and Thelema all while weaving a compelling narrative of personal growth.

A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray - The first in a trilogy of novels, this time set in 1895 England. This is a far less traditional approach to fictional magic but the magic, intruige, and danger that underpin the story make it a gripping tale and no less inspiring for the modern day with.

I use a 6000pxx5000px with a 4px brush, usually, but I really rarely use it all, mostly it’s just like, corners of the whole thing. I tend to draw a lot of things on the same canvas before switching to a new one - that said, personally I can’t draw properly if I don’t zoom in above 100% (usually I work at 150% or 200%, more for details) so I’m really not the right person to ask this haha

They’re learning together!! They have an online dictionary and follow online courses, so Kirishima kind of looked it up for himself at first - he was signing it as love instead of really like thoug, which made Bakugou indecently flustered so in the end, yes, he was the one to teach him how to properly sign it :D

And nope Kiri didn’t know jsl from before, but mers do have something similar to a sign language (there’s deaf and mute merpeople too, after all) so he recognized it as Bakugou going “I want to talk to you and this is the best way to” - also, he’d never seen a tablet before and Bakugou was showing him an explosion on it to make him understand and instead he went “what is this SORCERY” and got excited about a gif. Good, pure kid. I had no clue how to add that in the comic in a fast way tho so let’s leave it at him being happy they found a possible way to communicate haha

So pretty much at some point in the middle of a meeting Present Mic mentioned how there probably was a traitor between them that kept on feeding the villains infos about UA, and the fandom of course got interested in that!! Who could it be? They started thinking it through and for some reason the theories that ended up being more popular are about it being either Kaminari, Kirishima or Hagakure - I don’t think any of these are true, but if you google search “kaminari traitor theory” or the same with the other two names you should easily find the posts explaining the theories and where they come from, if you’re interested!

Some storms have passed, hopefully it’ll be warmer soon (updates and blah)

Um, welp... this may be my late-st post yet, that’s something new I guess lol, it ain’t so bad. I was seriously considering not posting this month but I know if I don’t stick to some sort of schedule then I’ll get too lazy and all past efforts will just be lost. At first I was busy for a few days, then I remembered and felt lazy some and then I forgot for some more days, but I’m here now and Imma write this post hoo!

I had another kind of argument and cry involving my sis but it was from a misunderstanding and it was brief and the make up was fast. I still find it hard to express my true feelings to her and her words still cut so strikingly hurtful and are seemingly insensitive at times, but some of mine must’ve hurt her just as bad too. When will I be able to speak my true mind? It’s just so difficult... but in time, with some work I really hope for that to be possible. 

Lately, I’ve been more active on getting my health problems sorted out, making and going to appointments and stuff. Well, none of the problems have actually been sorted out yet, as previously attempted, but I gotta keep pushing about them to hopefully get a better sort of resolution this time. I also went to some other health appointments I had being putting off, as with a lot of things, they weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be, which is good and good of me to finally do them ^^ Avoiding and not doing anything accomplishes nothing after all and again health is super important!

One of the appointments was to a mental health advisor person. The funny thing is I was inadvertently recommended to see them when I was investigating some physical problems. I kinda was hopeful that maybe I’d get referred somewhere better than last time’s super general counsellor by this advisor but uhhh nope. They smiled a lot and asked me how I generally was and a few tidbits about my past and then everything else was just some very general stuff about changing the way you think blah blah. I brung up AVPD, asked if there was anyone I could see who specialised in personality disorders but it was pretty much brushed off, which really sucked. 

At the end they asked if maybe I was interested in mindfulness/anxiety-reducing group therapy sessions and gave me some brief printouts with info. My first instinct would be to avoid like hell at the mention of being in a group, I was kind of irked by it and they noticed but they said to think about it and let them know next week. I also asked if there was someone else I could see 1-on-,1 but as they could see on record I already went to see someone last time (which I guess is the only thing of that they have) there was no luck there.

I’m debating whether to go or not, it could be helpful, there actually isn’t anything to lose. I’m just super paranoid about accidentally meeting someone I knew there (which is pretty irrational and who cares really ‘cause we’re in the same boat kinda thing). Also that I’ll have to give lots of info about myself to strangers, but the sheets say you don’t have to say anything you don’t want to/contribute as little or as much as you like, so that took away some of my uneasiness.

I can’t say it’ll be worth it or not unless I try it of course, a new experience and going out is good at least. I think maybe I will research it some more, then maybe go at least for one session just to see if I like it... hmm. Be brave me! You’ll be okay!

There were two groups I got handouts on, they’re both kind of similar but not. I assume I can only attend one, which one to choose? Maybe I’ll ask for more details when I next see the advisor. I’m proud of myself for going to the advisor foremost, I was pretty anxious and ready to avoid them at first lol.

I’m still very concerned about my family’s health :c My mum has been doing somewhat better, test results are slightly positive but still iffy and more follow-up tests are needed. The wait for those is long, it’s saddening and all the more scary. I really hope she’ll be okay. I wish I was stronger and could help out more. I really need to help myself faster and then help everyone else as soon as I can.

My dad’s health has actually been worse lately, we’ve been noticing some extra symptoms and even he has mentioned not feeling well and we keep telling him to see the doctor but he’s still super reluctant to. But even once he wondered to us if he should go after all. Being scared of going to the doctor or being scared of the increasing toll your health could be taking? I know which one of those I find worse. Maybe I should be more tricky like I did the previous times making appointments for him or at least try more convincing.

My sis’ health has not been too great lately either, she took on a second job and it’s very draining physically and she doesn’t get as much sleep but she does it because we need the extra financial help. I don’t like that it’s taking a strain on her health, it’s both physically and mentally stressful. I definitely agree she should quit if it really is too much. I need to hurry and get a job, things aren’t looking too great for me lately though, no more interview offers as of yet and not many application opportunities out there.

The job my sis got is actually the one I mentioned last time, which I was also invited to interview for. The ‘interview’ was just an extremely long winded talk with about only enough time for you to say maybe a few sentences about yourself in a room of a few people. Their whole system and just everything is extremely unorganised and so slap dash. The appointment dates were messed up and the interviewer had not seen any of our CV’s so all he had to go on to decide was the few lines we uttered pretty much.

As my sis works there now, she’s been telling me of how that disorganised-ness and everything literally encompasses and translates to the whole store and all its’ staff’s less than ideal work attitudes. I seriously thought such a big company would’ve been so much better than this, it’s really disappointing and makes me like it so much less. In a way, I’m kind of glad I was rejected, it’s like I dodged a bullet and with my health I would’ve struggled ten-fold 

I was disappointed with myself when I gave my few lines about myself in the ‘interview’. We were asked mostly what our career experience was and I really didn’t have much at all. I also answered briefly because I was one of the first to be asked. Just sitting there while everyone else went through their long list of past jobs and duties, man, it sucked and totally pushed me far out of the orbit of consideration lol. I was proud of myself at least for enduring the long-ass talks and for engaging and asking questions and keeping my cheery face on, good me.

In other things I kind of cut contact with the few online ‘friends’ I had been awkwardly avoiding and being scared to get rid of for so long. I was so anxious about it for so many years and had resorted to just not visiting that place at all but now that weight has pretty much been lifted. I still feel riddled with guilt and feel sad about it, but they weren’t really ‘friend friends’ more like acquaintances from a past mutual interest, so I shouldn’t feel so bad. I can’t believe all the energy I wasted fretting and overthinking, to them it was probably nothing as they have many other more important friends. People move on and people find new friends and interests, it happens all the time and it’s okay, it’s just life.

If something is hurting you or making you uncomfortable, just let it go, get rid of it for the sake of yourself and your health. It might hurt someone by doing so, but not doing so and letting yourself be hurt so much is no good either. That’s what a different friend told me and they are probably the only one I still keep in contact with now. I guess I got so caught up in being afraid to hurt some people a little that I forgot I was hurting myself a lot in the process. 

Even with the good friend though, it’s... awkward and uncomfortable still in a way, I’m not sure if’s just me or maybe if it’s them a little. I feel like maybe they only still talk to me to be nice. That they reply only out of obligation, but I’ve asked them this and they’ve denied it kind of... Tbh I feel like I wanted to cut contact with them too sometimes but I couldn’t and I probably wouldn’t. 

I can’t be sure if that’s just the avoidant and irrational part of me talking. You know, all the bad stuff floating in my head telling me I’m a nuisance to others, not worth talking to, awkward and just all these things putting myself down in general when it comes to communication and worth, I shouldn’t believe it. None of it is really true. Why is it so easy to believe these lies and irrational thoughts?

I feel like as with the previous mentioned stuff about friends and just kind of existing in places I didn’t want to be, that my slate has partially been wiped clean, like I can start anew and just be me a bit more in a new place. It’s only partially though, I still feel held back by all the bad feels and guilt and awkward from just every past interaction and the fear of the new. I need some more pep talk and convincing for myself first, but I will get there!

He was too good to be true, reminding me to keep him updated wherever I go so that he knows I am safe. He would even selfie swap with me so I was convinced we really are a thing.

My vacation in Singapore definitely is my most favourite because at that four days, I felt I was loved. I felt I was needed, I felt I was special. After 6 years of being single, there goes the good morning and good night messages again. Someone is making me smile again. It really felt so real. So real that I fell. Crazy as it may seem but I did. He brought the sunshine back in my life again - that I wanted to believe that so. I am certain that his messages makes me smile, I am certain he brightens up my day.

His distance from me makes it difficult to see each other the moment I came home from my vacation. But there was still an assurance from him that we will see each other and I believed him so. Because of his job, I have this belief that I can trust him and I can trust him with my life as well so there was no room for big doubts on the things he say. However, my overthinking moments stood in the way to the point that I just gave up on him just a day after our first week. I do have that option anyway so I exercised it, thinking that he won't lift a finger to stop me from it because I knew what we have is just for fun. I knew it won't hurt on his part because he has yet to see me. I wanted to stay away and give up that early because I can feel that I am beginning to want us beyond what we talked about. I sure was falling and those "I love yous" to him are beginning to have essence. That moment, I knew I wanted to protect myself because I knew I could get hurt. While he too says he loves me, I wasn't sure if it really is true. I wasn't sure if it is as sincere as mine.

He went the extra mile, he chased me just before I could completely cut ties with him. He used the whole day to convince me not to give up on us because he isn't doing so. Darn, I was chased - something that I have not experienced for the past 11 years of my existence. It warmed my heart. It really felt that what we have is legit. That alone was sort of a sign for me to believe that our thing really has a promising future. His act made me believe that indeed, I could entrust my heart and everything about me to him. That alone makes him lovable all the more.

But then again, this overthinking thing is a bitch. It won't leave me to the point where I went beyond the line and googled him to find info about him. I did that so because I wanna get to know him beyond whay he says. I do that most of the time, to check if who am I talking to is legit or not. He sure is, same as how legitimate the fotos he sends me in private messaging.

I won't stress further what else have I found online but being honest with him about such action drove him away from me. I am certain that he got mad coz he won't talk to me after that. He was elusive to me since then. I took his silence as a sign of my heartbreak.

I regret doing so because had I not googled him, perhaps we could still be sweet AF right now. He could still be my sunshine in the rain.

God, I miss him so.

I wrote him a sort of a farewell letter last Sunday, telling him that I will stay away from him and that I am truly sorry for what I have done to drive him away. I made sure also to tell him I love him so and that I will miss having him around.

I left him with the choice to unfriend and unfollow me on social media because I told him that I couldn't do so, but he didn't. We remain Facebook and Instagram friends.

I miss him that much that I have been posting memories of us, regardless of how little they were. He would even like some of it.

He had accepted my apology but we are not the same as how we were.

It felt as if we are back to being strangers and that how we chat now is so cold. Not even a trace of the kind of sweetness we once had.

There goes my sunshine.

Again.

The moment he became elusive, it felt as if I could hear John Gerald say "this new guy you are into went away because you are so gullible." I say so because John Gerald would always tell me I am gullible.

My friends say I got taken advantage for the nth time because I tend to be über nice and über generous to someone I find so special to me. I say I am just showing the person who I really am at the thought that I would be appreciated and loved back.

But at the end of the day, no amount of generosity and kindness, even love, can make a person stay with me. I have my overthinking tendencies solely to blame. No matter how honest and faithful I can be to someone I choose to fall for, it really isn't enough to make them stay. I should know that by now coz my life the past 6 years is a cycle of people who comes and go.

No one was really meant to stay.

No one was really meant to love me the way I deserved.

Make no mistake about it, I want him back. I really do.

I want him back so bad that I am willing to do whatever it takes to win him over, even if that means giving up something just for him.

But I am certain that he don't want me to exist in his life anymore. Because he is happy spending his life, doing what he does best without me. Basically the same story as how John Gerald and all the others had went away.

I really don't think I was meant for someone after this one with him failed. Or maybe Kelvin was right, I am too excited, anticipating every single damn thing too much that I end up blowing things off.

Yeah, they say I am pretty and equally attractive but it is my attitude that keeps people away from me. It is my weirdness and my overthinking that serves as a curse hence I feel like I am just that pretty face. Absolutely nothing but a pretty face.

I am solely to blame for this new heartbreak. I took him seriously when it is supposed to be just half-baked.

And there goes me again believing that relationships are not for me. That I was just made to be someone's part time lover...

Okay, so customer engagement itself isn’t that complicated.

However, when you’re in a specific niche, your customers are going to have specific wants and needs.

So you have to take a much more strategic approach to customer engagement if you want to get the results you’re looking for.

Lots of niche businesses overlook this, and it costs them.

“Customer engagement” falls into the abyss of other jargony business best practices that just don’t get done.

You can avoid falling into the same trap, but you have to plan ahead and work a little harder to understand your customers better.

And that’s the thing — engagement starts with understanding.

Unsurprisingly, customer engagement with niche customers looks a lot like a relationship, but what many brands forget is that relationships take work.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to push the relationship or dating analogy too far.

But I do want to speak directly to businesses that are in a well-defined niche.

Get Up Close and Personal

It makes sense that if you want to sell to customers who have specific wants and needs, you need to figure out what those wants and needs are.

That’s why it’s important to dig deep into demographics and psychographics. Your demographics will tell you who, while psychographics will tell you why.

Demographics and psychographics are important for every customer engagement strategy, but they’re especially crucial when you’re operating in a small niche.

To get this information, you can use a number of different platforms, but Google Analytics is probably the easiest (and it’s free).

Although it will only show you some basic information, it’s often enough to get started.

To find demographics in Google Analytics, go to the sidebar and navigate to Audience > Demographics > Overview.

You’ll find two sections: age and gender.

Again, It’s really basic, and gives you only a slice of relevant demographic data.

Because Google Analytics is so lacking here, consider doing some more research. Other demographics you might want to research include:

Location

Current occupation

Income

Education level

Family status (marital status, number of children, etc.)

You can find most of these using sites like City-Data.com that give you information on demographics in a certain area that you specify.

When it comes to psychographics, Google Analytics provides more information than you might expect.

You can see this info by going to Audience > Interests > Overview.

Here you’ll see three categories: Affinity Category, In-Market Segment, and Other Category. When you put these three together, you get a better idea of what your customers like.

Pay extra attention to the In-Market Segment. These are things that your customers are in the market for. They’re already into the sales funnel and might even be ready to buy.

Together, demographics and psychographics help paint a vivid picture of your audience.

You not only know what kind of people you’re engaging but also how to engage them (because you know what they want).

So now you know who your customers are and what they want.

What do you do next? You create a strategy that’s custom made for them.

There are lots of ways you can go about this, and it can get confusing.

Here are a few tips to help you out.

Be Approachable

Approachability is one factor that is exponentially more important for niche businesses than it is for more general businesses.

That’s because a unique niche is personal to your customers. Any given customer might even go so far as to define him or herself using a niche.

Consider the cassette market. (Yes, cassettes are making a comeback.) People who listen to cassettes might call themselves cassette enthusiasts.

These people form a community, albeit small, that want that kind of personal engagement that their interests require.

Often, you’re engaging your customers in a way that’s intensely personal to them.

The more approachable you are, the better your customers will feel.

Understand that your customers don’t just want to like you––they want to trust you.

Building trust takes time and effort, but it has a big impact.

Keep a record of it and actually look at it.

Unique niches are really tough for marketing.

If there are 37 people on the planet that are in your target market, then you’ve got your work cut out for you.

But at the same time, a unique niche is a huge advantage!

Marketing in a tight and well-defined niche is deliciously straightforward.

You have less competition.

You can segment your audience with ease.

You can go hyper specific with organic and paid keywords.

You can micro target the heck out of Facebook ads.

You have the potential to get higher conversion rates.

You can get to know each of those 37 people on a first-name basis.

But there are some things that are more difficult in unique niches.

What’s Difficult About Unique Niches?

Customer engagement falls into that category.

Okay, so customer engagement itself isn’t that complicated.

However, when you’re in a specific niche, your customers are going to have specific wants and needs.

So you have to take a much more strategic approach to customer engagement if you want to get the results you’re looking for.

Lots of niche businesses overlook this, and it costs them.

“Customer engagement” falls into the abyss of other jargony business best practices that just don’t get done.

You can avoid falling into the same trap, but you have to plan ahead and work a little harder to understand your customers better.

And that’s the thing — engagement starts with understanding.

Unsurprisingly, customer engagement with niche customers looks a lot like a relationship, but what many brands forget is that relationships take work.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to push the relationship or dating analogy too far.

But I do want to speak directly to businesses that are in a well-defined niche.

I’ve worked with companies who designed hair dryers for women with light and curly hair. Another one of my clients made big rock-shaking machines for mines. (It’s called vibratory equipment.)

Niches are really cool.

And I also want to speak to businesses that need to boost their customer engagement efforts.

Customer engagement is more than just clever tweets and using emojis in your Facebook posts.

Customer engagement is a fascinating world that can dish up more conversions than you ever thought possible.

We’re going to solve the customer engagement problem in unique niches.

Get Up Close and Personal

It makes sense that if you want to sell to customers who have specific wants and needs, you need to figure out what those wants and needs are.

That’s why it’s important to dig deep into demographics and psychographics. Your demographics will tell you who, while psychographics will tell you why.

Demographics and psychographics are important for every customer engagement strategy, but they’re especially crucial when you’re operating in a small niche.

To get this information, you can use a number of different platforms, but Google Analytics is probably the easiest (and it’s free).

Although it will only show you some basic information, it’s often enough to get started.

To find demographics in Google Analytics, go to the sidebar and navigate to Audience > Demographics > Overview.

You’ll find two sections: age and gender.

Again, It’s really basic, and gives you only a slice of relevant demographic data.

Because Google Analytics is so lacking here, consider doing some more research. Other demographics you might want to research include:

Location

Current occupation

Income

Education level

Family status (marital status, number of children, etc.)

You can find most of these using sites like City-Data.com that give you information on demographics in a certain area that you specify.

When it comes to psychographics, Google Analytics provides more information than you might expect.

You can see this info by going to Audience > Interests > Overview.

Here you’ll see three categories: Affinity Category, In-Market Segment, and Other Category. When you put these three together, you get a better idea of what your customers like.

Pay extra attention to the In-Market Segment. These are things that your customers are in the market for. They’re already into the sales funnel and might even be ready to buy.

Together, demographics and psychographics help paint a vivid picture of your audience.

You not only know what kind of people you’re engaging but also how to engage them (because you know what they want).

So now you know who your customers are and what they want.

What do you do next? You create a strategy that’s custom made for them.

There are lots of ways you can go about this, and it can get confusing.

Here are a few tips to help you out.

Be Approachable

Approachability is one factor that is exponentially more important for niche businesses than it is for more general businesses.

That’s because a unique niche is personal to your customers. Any given customer might even go so far as to define him or herself using a niche.

Consider the cassette market. (Yes, cassettes are making a comeback.) People who listen to cassettes might call themselves cassette enthusiasts.

These people form a community, albeit small, that want that kind of personal engagement that their interests require.

Often, you’re engaging your customers in a way that’s intensely personal to them.

The more approachable you are, the better your customers will feel.

Understand that your customers don’t just want to like you––they want to trust you.

Building trust takes time and effort, but it has a big impact.

So how do you become more approachable?

Especially, since we’re dealing with the issue in a business context, and not in a warm-handshake-and-friendly-smile context.

First, listen to your customers.

And get serious about listening.

It’s easy to tell yourself that you’re listening to your customers, but are you really? If you aren’t, it’s never too late to start.

When you get customer feedback, don’t just make a mental note of it.

Keep a record of it and actually look at it.

Look for common threads in the feedback you get.

You might need to ask for feedback in the form of a survey. Most of your users will be happy to give you their thought, and a nice incentive (like a prize drawing) doesn’t hurt either.

Second, create a personality around your brand.

Of course, you could do this literally like Geico did with their gecko mascot (who has his own Twitter account).

But you could also transform your entire brand into something your customers trust.

Coca-Cola does this with its unforgettable marketing campaigns that are focused on happiness and positivity.

Bonus: Be funny.

If humor comes naturally to you, use it.

One example of a hilarious brand is Blockbuster. Specifically, The Last Blockbuster.

Okay, maybe it’s not actually a real business, but it sure is funny.

Humor doesn’t work for everyone. Sometimes, it’s feels forced and painful, like chewing on screws.

But for businesses that can do it, it enhances approachability.

If your brand is approachable, you’ll stand out from all your competitors.

Your customers will feel like you know them, and that’s because you do. All the work you put into finding demographics and psychographics will pay off at this step.

Enhance Your Online Presence

Like any relationship, the connection between you and your customers has to be nurtured. It takes frequent and open communication for any relationship to succeed.

That’s why having a robust online presence can drastically improve your customer engagement.

Being more active online mean that there are more points of contact.

Your customers can reach you more often, and that very act builds a ton of trust.

You probably saw this coming from a mile away, but being available on social media often is a huge plus.

People spend a lot of time on social media, and you can take advantage of that by also spending a lot of time on various networks.

Social media is most likely where your target audience hangs out. Your specific audience might tend to congregate on one or two social media sites, and you need to find out exactly where.

This doesn’t mean you should go out and run a bunch of ads on every social media site.

It does mean that you should have a human presence on your accounts.

Look, I love bots just as much as the next guy, but you’re going to tick people off if your Twitter “customer service” is a poorly programmed bot.

(Bots aren’t pure evil, as I’ll mention in just a minute.)

Many brands understand how important this is, and they make sure to respond to as much customer feedback as they can. Target’s Facebook excels at this:

Other brands go above and beyond the call of duty. Some companies like Warby Parker have created social media accounts solely for customer support.

But old-fashioned customer support isn’t the only option. Some businesses, especially smaller ones, simply don’t have the resources to staff a dedicated support team.

With live chat, you can have business hours, so to speak. Your customers know when you’re available, and you can respond in real time.
