I LOVE SHINEE SO MUCH
5 notes · View notes
I feel bad for saying this but none of the songs we heard in the teaser sound interesting at all. I feel like I turned the radio on to have some background noise. It sounds exactly like every other pop song out there. And knowing that some songs were straight up demos for other artists, like Hate You for Shawn Mendes, doesn't help it either. It's just bland. Before I listened to the teaser I watched Taemin's Guilty MV for the first time. And the difference in quality is haunting. It's sad though because we know that Jungkook is capable of doing good songs, Still With You is a great example. But he really went the route of commercial success and completely sacrificed his artistry. I think I'm going to cancel my pre-order. This album is just not for me. I had hope but the teaser definitely gave me a reality check.
Especially today, after listening to Taemin's entire album. And you know what's important to notice here? Taemin doesn't write his songs either. Nor does Key. They too have their A&R team at the company that looks for songs. But look at all their releases and concepts. There's nothing generic there or bland. Guilty is such a Taemin song but that's because the artist is so involved in the entire production. There's a theme, a message that embodies the singer as the idol persona or topics they want to explore. Not having writing credits it's not the issue and it never was for me. It's the lack of identity or lack of trying to explore and to be more involved in the entire production.

SHINee Reaction | Your Reaction to Their Comeback
Pairing: SHINee Members x GN!Reader
Requested by anon: Omg, have you seen shinee perform recently? from body rhythm to hard and juice they are hotter than ever! can write something for them in this regard? thank you for sharing with us
Genre: fluff
A/n: this comeback was a whirlwind for me in all the best ways possible. it was bit sad not seeing onew in the promotions and take part of the concerts they held, but i do hope he's doing well and taking care of himself. that being said, i did include him in this reaction but it will be a bit different from the reactions described for reader in the other members' entries. requests for expansions are always welcome.
Onew: Watching the boys carry out their comeback was very nice, yet bittersweet. You were so accustomed to seeing their comeback with Jinki on stage beside them, but right now he was watching Kibum, Minho, and Taemin at home with you. You'd seen the music videos they had released and were immensely proud, never forgetting to let him know how proud of him you were - even if he was sitting it out to focus on his health. You spent your days doting on him making sure he knew that while you proud of his comeback with SHINee, you were equally as proud of his decision to focus on himself and his wellbeing.
"I'm proud of you on and off the stage."
Key: As mentioned above, you are also proud of Kibum (on and off the stage). Here however, you are constantly fawning over him. He's in his element and nothing is more attractive that someone doing the things they are most passionate about. In this scenario, we'll say that you work in the fashion/styling industry. While a large bulk of your commentary revolves around the vocals and the performances, you also focus on the styling choices. You have a lot to say about Minho's harness (i am droolling).
"You can literally pull off anything while performing, did you get to keep that headband?"
Minho: Pride and happiness for this gem of a man is known and all. He knows it because you make it very clear every comeback. But you are thirsting over this one. That harness? Who gave him the right to do that? He is owning everything he does so passionately and he knows what it is doing to you. More than one of your conversations during this time revolve around what new fantasies the comeback as inspired. What was I saying again?
"Am I speaking to the same person that was just on stage right now?"
Taemin: I missed this man so much and I am personally so glad to see him thriving right now. Here we go. With Taemin, I feel like it's more about the happiness to see him back with the group. A lot of this is really reassuring him that he is indeed doing a great job on stage and he's not lacking or falling behind. A lot of words of affirmation are said by you to really get him to see and feel as confident in himself as you are. While also having a few stargazing moments watching him move so fluidly.
"You're are doing so well and you will continue to do amazing things this comeback. I can feel it."

hellooo today's reminder is what a DAY first thing i saw was jinki is back after nearly a full year (i am in Tears about how many friends behind the scenes in the industry banded together to make him his artistic safe space) and he is BEAUTIFUL his hair is long and he is being adorable in a video and he kept onew rights but the video caption said "jinki" and are you aware he's my absolute darling sunshine angel and i love him so very much. also doyoung is releasing a full length album. which i saw coming, my hypothesis is the full solo albums will be the 7th sense unit in age order, so jaehyun will be next, then mark, then it better fucking be yuta or i will burn down the fucking sm building. which speaking of. I'm thrilled for doyoung but I'm worried about the absolute lack of buildup for this album. taeyong had his youtube channel, ten was building off a good amount of momentum in China and then he shone in baggy jeans. I'm worried they might have rushed doyoung's album as a distraction from the fact that all of the company's senior artists are leaving one by one. alsoooo (and this is definitely… pessimistic) i think the flood of nct and wayv news (doyoung's album, wayv suddenly working on two albums this year, smoothie promotions being so rushed) this past few weeks was deliberately done to keep the nct/wayv brands focused on the current members, rather than people we do not speak of, in whose articles the words nct and wayv might come up often. which i really hope it isn't, the boys deserve all of the chances to shine and all of the recognition and success, but… we all know what kind of a company that dumpster fire is
Hiiii! Oh my gosh yes! I'm so happy to see him and he's doing well. And he looks so beautiful. Taemin is my first ever bias like since I was 16, hes still my baby, But after a while Onew became number one SHINee bias and still is, I just love him so much and his smile and voice and I'm just happy to see him return and hope he's doing better. Such a precious man. Also Taemin being my first bias and Yixing and Hyunjin being my ultimate biases, I just find the same man in different fonts and love them forever. Oh yay I didn't even know about Doyoungs solo album I really hopefully once the time comes he'll get equal promotions as everyone else. Yes Yuta solo album or even Johnyu duet album ooh or Johnny Hendery duet album I just love theyre dynamic. Yeah dreams comeback feels rushed and I could be wrong, shot in the dark but I think smoothie might be a euphemism. Could be wrong but I don't think the song is about smoothies. But it does seem like that and I think anyone other than you has stopped reading so far but there's a little guy and I'm happy he's not a sad little guy anymore and he's doing his little guy thing and his little guy thing is wonderful and he's a beautiful little guy. Hey! look at another little guy! who has no business enlisting, I know he's almost 30 but also him just so tiny.
The babiest babygirl🌸🩷🍭🎀

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Mani, the Norse God of the Moon.            He is the owner of Bohdisattva Counseling Center.
FC NAME/GROUP: Lee Taemin / SHINee GOD NAME: Mani PANTHEON: Norse OCCUPATION: Director and Psychologist at Bohdisattva HEIGHT: 175cm DEFINING FEATURES: Generally androgynous features, long limbs, broad shoulders, round high cheeks, defined jawlines, glowy skin. He always emits a soft, moon-like aura that intensifies when the surroundings get dark, making him visible to others even in complete darkness.
PERSONALITY: Mani is a gentle enigma. His gentleness is hard-earned, as it encompassed his wisdom gained through thousands of cycles of karmic chase and run, and through thousands more of mortal lives among humans, the beings he was born to adore.
He is the Fiery One of Asgard, a fierce cosmic force that transcended the age of the Aesir and Vanir gods. His watchful gaze extends to the vulnerable, the wounded, and the scarred, offering them unwavering protection and patient guidance. To all evil entities in the Nine Worlds, he remains relentless, the lack of mercy he has for them is as clear as the moonlight in all its glory.
The Norse god of the moon stays youthful in his lunar energy, an ageless presence that can and does heal broken bones and broken hearts. Many have considered him reliable, as the moon religiously stays in the sky and its phases are never unrhythmic. While that is true, he is also the root of the English word ‘lunatic’.
Friendly, helpful, yet complex in his intertwined bright and dark sides, he can be known by many, yet can be truly understood by very few. Mani, despite rich layers of tenderness, humanity, and nurturing nature, constantly fluctuates through the repetitive phases of overjoy and melancholy. The god is generous in sharing his happiness with the world, but when sadness runs deep or when the cosmos needs to get its evilness fix, he denies them all even the slightest ray of light. He keeps guard of beings’ safety and peacefulness, but at times, he may turn them into neurotics. To everyone, the moon is approachable, as long as they remember not to get too close.
HISTORY: The moon personified Mani, whose legend is woven into the rich tapestry of Germanic mythology, is a celestial deity revered and worshipped by the Germanic tribes. His name is often invoked in prayers and spells heard throughout the lands of Scandinavia, Germany, and England.
Born into the House of Mundilfari, Mani is the son of a prideful father and the brother of Sol. The siblings’ fates were sealed the day Mundilfari honoured his children’s beauty by calling his daughter ‘sun’ and his son ‘moon’. The two’s names shone so bright their lights insulted the gods, so they were taken away and tied to two chariots that would never cross paths. Sol was ceaselessly chased by the wolf Sköll from the east to the west of the earth, while he had to flee from the jaws of Hati Hróðvitnisson from the west to the east.
And that was, as a legend once said, a long ass ride.
The chase did not end until the time of Ragnarök. In the meantime, Mani traversed the universe on his chariot drawn by the horse Hrimfaxi. His shadow tirelessly danced across the night sky, at times casting over his light to fool around with the wolf Hati. Beings were left in awe of the rhythm of his sways, so much so that they religiously observed his escapes, and learned to lace their own interpretations of the messages conveyed by his moves into poetic labels. Today’s humans collectively called his little tricks ‘moon phases’, which when he heard through the prayers of his worshippers, Mani laughed, his light shone through the night, chasing away all dark clouds and evil forces.
Mani also collected many epithets on that seemingly endless journey, gifted to him from beings in The Nine Worlds. "Fiery one" by the gods, "the hastener" by the jötnar, "the shiner" by the dwarves, "the counter of years" by the elves, "the whirling wheel" in Hel, and "moon" by mankind. Still, his favourite is the "Man in the Moon” by his English worshippers. He finds the way his name was solidified in the modern-day human’s life as the most dreadful day of the week funny, yet somewhat endearing, adding one more reason to why he had always biased the Midgards.
Despite never getting himself deeply involved in any shenanigans of Asgard, Mani has been highly regarded among his fellow Norse gods. His existence was said to precede that of Odin the All-Father, but Mani had gone so far into his moon business that he did not find the time to have that confirmed. It was ironic how easy it was for him to lose track of time, while a better part of his existence's purpose was to help others count each night passing by the Nine Worlds.
Another part of his duty was to ensure the moons, planets, stars, and tides in all worlds piously followed the rhythms of his chariot, maintaining a harmonic flow of the cosmos. Moreover, he shall give responses in one way or another whenever his name is called. Thanks to Odin the All-Father, who advised beings to invoke the moon for protection against malice forces, Mani had never since then found himself less of a busy moon. To the Norse people, he was not just a luminary far above the sky, but a guide and guardian, offering them assurance and guidance through life's challenges. Mani did that with dutiful endearment and occasional neglect, because there was only so much a god could do while the jaws of Hati were persistently hot on his (w)heels.
In some senses, Mani felt more related to humans than to his fellow gods. Once upon a time, while he was enjoying his daily chase with Hati the wolf across the sky of Midgard, Mani heard a wish. That wish was spoken by two children, a prayer sent not directly to him, but to the well Byrgir (Old Norse-"Hider of Something"). As he looked down from his chariot, Mani saw Hjúki and Bil, carrying on their shoulders the pole Simul (Old Norse-"eternal") that held the pail Sæg between them. The young siblings prayed for an escape from Viðfinnr, their neglectful, abusive father. The following evening, when Hjúki and Bil were back to the well with the pole and the pail, they saw Mani with an offer to join him through his journey across the heavens. The two never uttered a ‘yes’ faster in their life, and soon they happily followed Mani through the universes as his loyal companions and assistants.
But nothing, even the lifetime of a god, lasted forever.
Since the beginning of his existence, Mani had prepared to meet his demise foretold in Ragnarök. There was not a great surprise that came to him as one day, midway through another round of chasing, the horse Hrimfaxi collapsed, and his chariot broke itself into pieces. Mani perished in one single bite of Hati, as the god knew his time had come and there was no use fighting against it. His ‘death’ marked the first completely moonless night in the entire Nine Worlds, one of the bad omens his fellow Norse gods dreaded yet long-awaited receiving.
After Ragnarök, like some of Norse gods, Mani was revived. Hati had helped kill the old version of Mani, the chariot-bound moon god who spent his existence mostly running away from an inevitable beastly problem. Broken free from the devices that tightened him to such a miserable existence, Mani travelled the worlds on his own feet, guided and empowered by his own light.
Since then, he spent most of his time experiencing over and over the life of a human on Midgard, feeling all types of joys and pains and gains and losses, reenacting the rhythms he once danced on the chariot with perishable flesh and bones. He lost Hjúki and Bil in the flow of time, but he got for himself more children on this wolf-free journey, some he found, some he made in collaboration with those humans whose prayers he happened to hear. Mani was aware that he was not, and would not be a good father most humans would like to stereotype. Yet, as far as his lunar power could reach, none of his offspring died an unwise death on his watch. A pretty impressive job in fathering half-god humans, Mani supposed.
One day, his ears caught the name of Mount Phoenix, an island where some of his fellow Norse gods, their descendants, gods of other pantheons, and their descendants chose to call home in this universe. Looking down from above through the moonlight, Mani saw the island’s potential. And so, with his luggage almost empty - as he realised there was not much baggage he wanted to bring along - Mani made a quiet walk across the bridge to enter Mount Phoenix.
A new moon is home.
Or is it?
POWERS:
Lunar & Lunar Energy Manipulation: He can shape and manipulate all aspects of the moon(s), including its gravity and the effects it has on the planet, reflective surface, time-keeping, etc. He can also use its lunar energy to generate objects at will.
Lunar Healing: He can heal others using lunar energy. His power works on both physical and mental wounds, although mental healing often requires more time and energy. His healing power is generally more efficient during nighttime when the sky is clear.
Lunar Generation: He can generate lunar light and energy that can be used for various purposes. The generated lunar energy and objects that are created by it work decently during the daytime but reach their maximum power and capability when the sun goes down.
Lunar Vision: He can see everything that is happening on the Earth through the moonlight. As this power relies on moonlight, Mani can only observe where the moonlight can reach. He cannot see through solid, opaque materials and objects, the underground world, or the depths of rivers, seas, and oceans.
Lunaportation: He can teleport via lunar energy, as he can physically merge with the lunar energy and appear anywhere else that the moonlight can reach. This power is less effective during daytime, and even less effective when Mani is in his human vessel, hence its limited use.
STRENGTHS:
Mani can create almost all tangible objects one might think of using lunar energy. The lunar-made objects can perform just as the real ones, and their effects may be enhanced on full moon nights.
The god emits a soothing aura that keeps humans feeling relaxed and safe in his presence. His aura may have a similar effect on demigods and demigoddesses of perceived benevolent forces, while the opposite is true on descendants of perceived malevolent deities.
He is a competent healer and protector who offers help whenever he is called for.
He is creative, and his energy encourages and nurtures creativity in others. Artists, performers, writers, and creative individuals may benefit from asking for his guidance or frequently being exposed to his energy.
WEAKNESSES:
Some of his primordial powers, including lunar generation and lunarportation, have certain limitations in their effect since after Ragnarok. These limitations are most easily seen when he stays in a human vessel.
Mani is not always a good force. His dark side, though largely ephemeral, can emerge to provoke and enhance negative energies in the cosmos, including but not limited to over-hyperactivity and hallucination that prevent beings from seeing life as it is. Demigods and demigoddesses of malevolent deities may benefit from this dark energy. One will need to check the lunar phases before considering invoking the name of Mani.
He hardly lets any beings come close enough to figure out his complexity, and does not have the desire to explain himself to anyone.
He loves the worlds and their beings as a collective, but rarely truly loves them as individuals, making his gentleness and affection seem fickle and conditional at times.

There is some serious shit going down in SM right now. Sounds like Taemin’s frustrations have been building for a while now and are beginning to bubble over.
I’ve had an inkling that he’s been purposefully held back for a while now. Sad to see it somewhat confirmed.
Hello Anon.
The news reports certainly point that way. In an organisation, what happens at the top always filters down. Instability, lack of vision and direction, or just plain incompetence will affect everyone. And if we put those news reports together with what he said on Bubble, plus that live where he was talking about high turnover in support and professional staff and poor working conditions and pay for them, it all points in one direction...
The shame of it all is how this is damaging SM's brand and could potentially end it, if it's not figured out. SM is the best of Kpop. The discipline, skill and talent they've been producing are hardly rivalled, and as many point out, SM is k-pop history. If the brand cannot figure out how to keep staff happy - ALL staff, including artists - then they will fizzle out. Baekhyun's already taken his solo business elsewhere, which was a huge profit for the company. I think some Super Juniors have done the same for solo.
While I don't think SHINee would ever leave SM, they could take their solo work anywhere. Each are growing year on year, showing they're worthy investments. Add in the critical acclaim, and they're each a hot commodity. Who can say what will happen? 👀
Regardless of what happens, I'm very excited to see what Taemin does at Budokan, tho. And I'm thrilled to be going. I don't see how he can hang upside down there, tho, because that rig was possible because of Inspire's setup. I think the show might be redesign for Budokan, which, if I'm remembering correctly, he performed at in-the-round for his first concert. Only a month away now ... omg.

jolie!! 😃💖 what are your thoughts on seulgi's album?? 👀
HEY RINNNNN 💖 knew u'd come around! :)))
i literally spent weeks praying to sm in the hopes they didn't, for lack of better phrasing, fuck it up
AND THEY DIDN'T. THEY ACTUALLY DIDN'T!
to start off, 28 reasons not only has a perfect concept, but it executes it so well musically... i love the feeling that seulgi's commanding the track, like there's a lot of power in it, but it doesn't over complicate itself or fall flat at any point. it feels inspired by boa and taemin, for sure, but it's definitely not a copy or ripoff in the slightest; it can really stand on its own.
for the non-tts, i'm so... i'm actually so overjoyed that they're all good. the only one i have a tangible gripe with is bad boy, sad girl cause mY BOY BE'O KIND OF DROPPED THE BALL HERE. IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA GO ALL OUT BROTHER JUST DON'T SHOW UP!!! ARRGH
but otherwise i thoroughly enjoy all of the tracks :) if i rank them the way @staycgrls did (thanks for answering my ask btw taylor teehee), here's what i think i'd put them at:
28 reasons = DEAD MAN RUNNIN' > anywhere but home > crown > los angeles > bad boy, sad girl
that being said, all of these tracks are solidly a to a+ tier, with 28 reasons and dead man runnin' at s >:)
i'm just so happy that this is a cohesive piece of work, with solid visual and audial theming throughout all the tracks! the only gripe i have is that i don't feel the album teaser was highlighted enough in the other visual aspects of the comeback; it's similar to pink tape by f(x) having the best album teaser followed by a just okay mv... i just hope the photobook expands on the teaser concept the way pink tape did!

ask about BTS and the clarification of hiatus
i hope u dont mind me venting but honestly the announcement came at such a horrible time for me :( i was already struggling with my mental health, having to deal with moving forward in life (and being absolutely lost), lack of a social life and studying problems for the past couple of months. and just this morning all that bottled emotion finally burst and i had a rather embarrasing mental breakdown in the middle of a big crowd. on top of being sick this past weekend, assuming it to be just fever only to find out it was freaking covid. and also being far from family and not being able to go back home despite already making plans - it was just a very horrible day for me. and then BAM bts hiatus 😦
i watched the live and although i was insanely shocked (found out about it on twt) and feeling incredibly sad, i get where the members are coming from. as i reached this new stage in my life, where (hehe) life goes on, i find myself…stuck. just like the members, covid had a big impact on my life and me personally. it disrupted all the plans i had for my life and i truly think my life right now would be so different if the pandemic had never happened. and along the way i kinda lost myself and i just do not know what the hell im doing anymore. to the point where i question my entire existence like, is this really who i want to be? and the members feeling the same way, wanting to express themselves freely, rediscovering their identity idk theyre really brave to be able to do that :’) i just wish i am able to do the same for myself. as disappointed i was when i heard the news, i understood that this was a much needed thing for bts as a whole and i’ll continue supporting them as much as i do now
also to add on, i turned to bts a lot whenever i feel down so the word ‘hiatus’ really scared me a lot bc of the curse it has on other groups. where hiatus would usually mean unofficial disbandment, i was afraid that i would lose yet another thing in my life that made me genuinely happy. i know im being a tid bit overdramatic but damn the worst possible scenario came to mind when i found out and i was SCARED. but after the live, them clarifying what would happen during the break and i have had time to process it, i was confused as to why they used the word hiatus cause they would still have some group activities, right? right??
As far as I interpreted it, it is a hiatus from BTS music as a group, and they will currently be putting their efforts into the members' solo work. BTS said themselves that they were not disbanding.
It is a shift in focus. They were telling ARMY that, at the moment, the music they were trying to make as a group was lacking the sincerity or story they used to have. It wasn't moving in a direction that they liked and they were feeling at a loss for what to do, so they decided they needed some time apart to pour themselves into their own identities and interests.
BTS will be continuing group activities but of course they can't say what (hello, spoilers? XD). They did mention filming one-off Run BTS! episodes! :D And (assuming HYBE has business sense) I feel that there is a high likelihood they will continue things like ARMY Membership content, Seasons Greetings, stuff like that. They have always said the fans are most important and I believe they will push out content that they think the fans will like. :)
I would like to think of it as new and different content rather than the content we used to expect from them.
Mmm, think of SHINee for example. Each individual member has really strong solo careers: ONEW in musical / theater acting, Minho in drama acting, KEY in fashion / variety shows, Taemin has album upon album of solo music (the rest of the members also have solo albums but not as much as Taemin LMAO). They are part of SM Entertainment (ew, sorry I don't like the company, bleh), so obviously the situation is different; SM have much more of a "factory" style of releases.
HYBE and BTS have a symbiotic relationship. HYBE do not control BTS (they couldn't even if they tried lol) and, also, they understand that good music comes from a personal place but when you've already written about that place over and over and over, it won't be as good anymore, you know? BTS talk about real experiences... so that's what they're going to do, have experiences, yet they're all different people and some of them don't want to game for 20 hours a day, eating two meals in four days LOL
(can't imagine why, it's great, not healthy but great :D)
ANYWAY
Remember Taehyung said he's marrying all of BTS (regardless of Seokjin's protests) so there's no need to worry, they will be together for a long time. :)
I don't want to discount the hardships you're going though. Sounds tough, but don't think of this as one of them, okay? This is a unique chance to see the individual members' colors, to see their creativity and their polished shine, and tbh I'm sure they will make cameos in each other's work (Yoongi already told JK to use him as a producer, I'm sure JK makes enough to pay that expensive rate it's probably in lamb skewers anyway).
Everyone moves at a different pace and encounters different obstacles in life. You may feel like you're aimlessly wandering now, on a island all alone, but there's much in learn even when lost in the forest, even when you feel that there's danger in every corner. BTS are still here and they aren't going anywhere. Is this not the best universe because BTS are here? :)
And, remember BTS In The SEOM is coming out the end of this month, we'll have a step-by-step guide on how to survive being marooned on an island on the back of a flying whale, shupshup
plus Yoongi gaming OST, POGGIES!

that every scene is your illusioned dream.
knowing your existence is our gravest sin.
an errata in everyones life.
a guilty with a failed alibi.
condemn me to hell, cursed for immoral sins
as I soon turn pedophile, lusts for freshly new skin
always looked down upon
at school, a people pleaser
at home, a pushover loser
portrays a trustworthy gay but a 'softhearted' boy
every girl I fancied,
each callingly cutied,
are girls made up of sugar, spice, & everything nice
my idealized stereotypical girls shall be chastise
as I am a narcissist boy, who can feed them lies
a protector, feed my ego, shall be the only one in their eyes
gave them enough assurances to not suspect my eyes
that sinfully wander in disguise
I imagined them with a warped future,
always with my perverted nature,
feed them overplayed beautiful illusions
which hides my maniacal delusions
my wounded masculinity
wants to dominate a clean feminity
to regain power, respect
—i lack in that aspect
maintains a friendly yet soft reputation
to target purest souls
that would never choose retaliation
for i can only hurt a girl,
can't outdo my similar gender
for am a desperate self proclaimed fckboi
just to cover my elephant-sized ego
shriveled manly vigors
i hide in words,
pretends knowledgeable
lack of experience
hids my non existent expertise
an errata inspired. a sad boi deprived.
a lonely pedo in the makin,
a self proclaimed fboi but an actual virgin.
left a nice curated message that'll cloud their mind
and then talked shit about each & every girl behind
all for a boring life i desperately hide
an impulsive middle child everyone hates
only time can make my mask deteriorate

25 + 10 + 5 for the ask game! 💓
// ask game
thank you for sending this in, chia <33 just came back from eating out with some friends hehe we're planning a spontaneous trip and i might be able to see the boyfie for the first time in 2+ years
5. what are your favorite and least favorite concepts?
i love any concept that's supernatural/fantasy AHH any group that completely leans into their concepts automatically have my heart, which is why i love kingdom's MVs so much. i was so sad at the lack of vampire themes in NCT's favorite and gothic/dark academia fairy tale story in seulgi's 28 reasons. least favorite...can i say anything that's not cohesive?? i don't have any concepts that i dislike much, or at least not any that i can think of.
10. if you got to work with any idol (producing, performing, choreographing, etc) one time, who would you pick?
seventeen, and i say that with no bias. seeing the care they put into everything is so fascinating to me, and i love their energy and their vibes and everything. i would also love to work with soyeon and key and taemin because they have such a clear vision when it comes to their work. i would love to see that drive and passion.
25. who inspires you most in your personal life?
probably my boyfie hehe but i don't know!! i don't think i currently have anyone around me that Inspires me. a lot of people i admire for various reasons, but a source of inspiration is something i always struggle with.

no right?? her voice is so addicting it's like they're putting crack in the vocalists at sm
i think she has a voice that's hard to get tired of and aside from having the strength and range, i absolutely love her vocal color because like you said, it's sultry but it can also be sweet and i personally love when idols have that variety because i find it really refreshing?
my favorite song is probably bad boy, sad girl or anywhere but home! i have this Problem where i can never choose one favorite and i'm always stuck between two, so trying to get me to choose one is seriously... a herculean task.
the mv isn't anything crazy or lore-packed like a txt one or the album trailer, which is what confuses me? i know sm isn't a label that heavily focuses on actual story-telling lore and there's nothing wrong with that, but the mv just has nothing to do with the trailer? i'm pretty sure they've done this before with their earlier artists like exo and changmin from tvxq, where they'll set the bar insanely high for themselves and then completely miss said bar; it's kind of like the equivalent of music and award shows putting all the highly-anticipated groups last to keep viewership lol. i know it wasn't the mv teaser so i can't be entirely upset about that, but i expected there to at least be some references to it, if any at all, because it really just plays like the choreography version of a music video with a few aesthetic shots thrown in here and there. then again, that could be attributed to the fact that seulgi's a dancer so it would make sense to focus on her dancing, but there's a very significant imbalance. i'm definitely not complaining though (edit: yes i am) because i really liked the styling and editing, i just wanted to see how they'd expand on the trailer. i remember seeing tweets about the concept and how a lot of the scenes revolved around asian folklore and superstitions, specifically about the ghost festival and how you can't do certain things because it'll attract spirits and some essentially invite them to possess you which led a lot of people to believe 28 reasons was going to be related to monster and that irene was the one who possessed seulgi. then there was this craze about how she looked like nanno from girl from nowhere or how the trailer was kind of like a horror movie and then we just see none of that... it definitely feels like a waste of potential but regardless, 28 reasons was stupidly good.
tldr; ml complains about the lack of correlation between the 28 reasons trailer and music video for *checks notes* 329 words
phewwww okay, so I just watched the music video, and let me tell you… you are absolutely right!
tldr x2; sol agrees with ml, but still thirsts over Seulgi nonetheless
i watched the mv teaser and the album teaser beforehand, and it looked really cool! It looked like something out of a horror movie, and I was actually kinda expecting some lore to come out of this mv; but alas, nothing.
i feel like it would have been better if we got a performance video and an mv (like what bts did with on) so that we could’ve had something that related back to the teasers, and something that still catered to Seulgi as a dancer/performer— cause that choreography is amazing. But anyways, it really is kinda disappointing :( it’s a gorgeous mv (and Seulgi is just so damn fine) but the way that they fed us those cool ass thriller/horror-esque shots and then said oh!!! Nevermind!! Just UGH it even looked like a whole movie…
I would have LOVED if they had done something like txt’s eternity mv— literally one of my favorites, it was so gorgeous and gave us a lot of lore too. But like you said, sm isn’t really a company that focuses on giving their groups a solid story (cause what the fuck is going with kwangya). Which is really sad, because they have a loooot of potential to properly explore these concepts (Seulgi and Irene’s solo, taemin…. Taemin again because the theories I’ve read on him, oh my god.) but then again, I’ve never been too accurately up to date with a group’s lore, so maybe they do have a solid story that I don’t know about.
Seulgi’s voice is just so perfect and she has an amazing range, but I must make a confession; the bridge where she talks is just a tad bit corny to me, (just a tiny bit!!) but she gets a pass bc it’s her and she’s hot, but I’m not really a big fan of that R&B sultry talk out of no where… (trauma flashbacks to Johnny in beautiful) some songs really pull it off, like if you do by got7. 28 reasons is just so good and I’m trying my hardest to not overplay it tbh

onew's military message to taemin
trans cr. 5hineonyou
🐰: Hi Taemin! While working together for over 10 years there were times that, even though I am the leader, I depended on you who is the maknae and even showed lacking appearance. But still, I have also tried my best to give strength and support to you. Although I think the time we'll be apart will feel really awkward and sad, as a person who supports you, as a fan, I am looking forward to your 2nd Act/Phase and I think you'll be a cooler artist. And I really love you

Since there are a lot more new fans since DCM/Atlantis era, I thought I might compile a list of the links and names of Minho's dramas and films he's been in! I'll put it all under the cut and I'll try to keep it update since he seems intent on being booked and busy lol
The Pianist (2010) [youtube] - "Oh Je Ro is a musical genius who had always dream of learning the piano, but had to work in a piano factory as tuner instead of going to school in order to support his sick father. He had despaired of ever being given a chance to learn and thought the name his father gave him sounded like "Oh, Zero", signifying his lack of hope in the future. This changes when he meets an elementary school teacher, Yoon In Sa, and begins a delicate love story with her." (personal note: While you can tell it's his first time acting outside of SHINee's mvs, he's still super cute (granted, I'm very biased, so that anything I say with a grain of salt lol)
Salamander Guru and the Gang (2012) [dramacool] - "A pair of common thieves and a young computer hacker run a fortunetelling scam, while helping people with their personal problems in their spare time." (note: Kibum and Taemin do cameo in this, as well)
To The Beautiful You (2012) [viki] [dramacool] - "A high school girl who's inspired by a gold-medal High Jumper devises a scheme to motivate him by attending his school."
Medical Top Team (2013) [viki] [dramacool] [Minho-only cut] - "A team of elite doctors treats patients while dealing with power struggles within the hospital."
Because It's the First Time (2015) [dramacool] - "A group of young people gather on a rooftop and tell their stories." (note: Taeoh's friends absolutely did not deserve him 😤)
Canola (2016) [dramacool] - "Twelve years after having lost her grand daughter at a market, grand mother and grand daughter become reunited. But things are not as good and perfect as they were twelve years earlier. (note: his first movie! 🥺)
Drinking Solo (2016) [dramacool] - "The story depicts people drinking alcohol alone for different reasons and the romance between Jin Jeong Seok and Park Ha Na. They both work at a private institute for people preparing for their civil service examinations in Noryangjin, Seoul. He is an arrogant, but popular instructor and she is a rookie instructor who struggles to survive in the private institute world." (note: full disclosure, I could not stand the main leads, but I was watching this for Kibum anyways, and he was phenomenal lol Minho just has a cameo appearance in this, and that's episode 5, I believe)
Derailed (2016) [dramacool] - "Four runaways trying to survive and make ends meet struggle day by day. Enter Ma Dong-Seok. He tried to help but they took advantage of the wrong guy. So it's the classic mistake of wrong guy at the wrong time." (note: one of my favorite roles he's done. he didn't have to go as hard as he did but he did and i'm grateful)
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016-2017) [viki] [dramacool] - "Revolves around an elite group of male warrior youth called Hwarang who grow through passion and love in Seorabeol, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla." (note: i have watched this....many times. I love it unapologetically. Kim Sooho has done nothing wrong ever in his life)
Somehow 18 (2017) [dramacool] - "A handsome orthopedic surgeon loses his first love who committed suicide when he was in his high school days. To save her he gets the chance to go back in time."
The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World (2017) [dramacool] - "The story revolves around a family with their highs and lows when their beloved mother only has one month left to live." (note: I bought this one on dvd so i could watch it when I'm ready but it sounds so sad 🥺 i have to psych myself up for it)
The Princess and the Matchmaker (2018) [dramacool] - "Princess Songhwa refuses her fate of marrying someone who matches her marital harmony. There are four men on her future husband list with different fate signs. Refusing her fate, she decides to leave the palace and find her husband by herself. Seo Do Yoon is a person who interprets marital harmony signs. He is very skilled at his craft and, consequently, selected as the one to read the marital harmony signs between Princess Songhwa and the four men on her husband list."
Illang: The Wolf Brigade (2018) [dramacool] - "Set in the distant future where both North and South Koreas agree to establish a joint government, which has been in preparation for a duration of seven years, the plot focuses on political uprisings on opposing sides which grow fierce when a special police unit is formed to stop the chaos." (note: 🥺😭)
The Battle of Jangsari (2019) [viki] [dramacool] - "A unit of student soldiers on a diversionary mission for the Battle of Incheon during the Korean War in 1950." (note: yeah so i was a complete mess for like the last twenty minutes so just prepare yourself (it's well worth it, though, he was absolutely amazing in this))
Lovestruck in the City (2020-2021) [dramacool] - "Park Chae Won, an honest and overly passionate architect who loves the city streets. After a woman that he calls the “camera thief” steals his heart one summer night and then disappears, he is unable to get over her. Lee Eun Oh, a freelance marketer who spontaneously decides to adopt a false identity in an unfamiliar place. She accidentally ends up falling in love with Park Chae Won while posing as the free-spirited Yoon Sun Ah."
Yumi's Cells (2021) [viki] [dramacool] - "The story of an ordinary office worker named Yumi-from the point of view of the many brain cells in her head controlling her every thought, feeling, and action." (note: just, so adorable so far. Minho plays a side character who shows up occasionally (heavily in the first two episodes), but the story is based off of a web comic that I read when I found out he got cast as Wook and honestly it's worth the watch even if he wasn't in it)

SM: WHAT ARE YOU DOING
SM in 2021 was atrocious. If success was only counted in terms of money and notoriety, then sure, SM had a great year. But critically? Musically? Creatively? SM was a dumpster fire in the pits of Hell. Not even Theodore Park and Rebecca Boom have been this bad.
This descent into Hell has led us to the debut of SM’s ‘Girls On Top’ project, which can only be summed up as: a disappointing waste of talent. So the talent is there. The writer is there. The money and budget is there. The exposure is there. A built in fandom is there. The only conclusion I have is that this was a quick cash grab and they don’t actually care about the song or the lyrics. A tale as old as time.
Firstly, if you want to call yourselves ‘Girls On Top’ and speak on female empowerment, it’s a dick move to bait-and-switch fans by releasing a song that calls out other women, or “silly girls”. Cheaters and boyfriend stealers belong in the trash for sure but they couldn’t pick a DIFFERENT theme to debut with?! After the year we’ve all had? More in fighting? You’re an All Girl Super Group and you’ve managed to define yourself by being about men. Because women are only of value if men desire them? You’re only a Badass Queen if your man is on “Another Level”? Self confidence is only obtained via the possession of a man that’s better than all other men? Gross...
This takes me to my second point: this whole damm project has male gaze and male voice and male paws all over it. When will SM ever let more women write and produce? I know the answer but it’s still so disappointing. I wish they went with a more female orientated team for this. Ryan Jhun worked on ‘Step Back’ and I know for a fact that he does not lack talent because he is the same dude responsible for Peaches (Kai), Sad Kids (Taemin) and several girl groups this year. That being said, please do not let this man write lyrics for this girl group. LSM and SM (the company) continue to show their true colours via the absolute misogynistic shit they approve.
Many people genuinely love this song and can’t see the problems with its message and lyrics. Everybody is free to enjoy anything they want. That’s fine. And I truly do not want to be preachy but misogyny is so normalised, ingrained and internalised that I sometimes do wonder if people are seeing what I’m seeing.
TLDR: Girls On Top ‘Step Back’ is Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad. Sunmi is Harley Quinn in ‘Birds of Prey’. It’s the difference between the Male Gaze/Voice and Female Gaze/Voice.
