Every once in a while my love for an obscure 10+ year old game gets re-ignited somehow and I have an urge to play it and become obsessed over it again (Endless Ocean)
I actually have a playlist for it made up of Lana Del Rey songs (and some Billie Eilish) because they remind me of the soundtrack. Bel Air and most of the Honeymoon album really gives me those vibes. Honeymoon the song is really haunting, it makes me think of the abyss.

Hi my name is Acht Mizuta and I have long Indigo hair with purple streaks and red tips that reaches my mid-back and sunny yellow eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Marina Ida (AN: if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!). I'm not related to Marie Cuttlefish but I wish I was because she's a major fucking hottie. I'm sanitized but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale green skin. I'm also an octoling, and I go to a simulation called the Memverse in Inkopolis Square where I'm in the first year (I'm twenty-three). I'm a goth (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black dress with matching red lace around it and a black cap with an octopus on it, headphones and black combat boots. I was wearing black eyeliner and a red tinted visor. I was walking outside the Spire of Order. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of Parallel Canons stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

Bad Dragon is suing SinSaint over copyright infringement of their dildo designs. What I want to know is, can you copyright the shape of a dog's dick? Because if you can, you shouldn't be able to.
I did knot need to hear about this one.
one more pun
Tumblr media
TSG is gonna be one of the more reputable sources for this one
MARCH 25--A manufacturer of “fantasy-themed sex toys” has accused an upstart Brooklyn, New York firm of knocking off its distinctive designs, according to a federal lawsuit alleging that the defendant has infringed on copyrights for dildos such as “Spritz the Seadragon” and “Tyson the Water Buffalo.”
In a March 20 complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona, Bad Dragon Enterprises contended that its “sculptural” products have been illegally copied by SinSaint, which is headquartered in a Coney Island warehouse and advertises that all its “Ethically Manufactured” toys are “made in Brooklyn, USA.”
Bad Dragon, which noted that it has had “significant commercial success” in the adult toy field, alleged that SinSaint has been selling the duplicative dildos through its website and other trade channels, including the recent AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas (where the new firm’s exhibitor booth was next to that of the all-nude Palomino strip club).
The lawsuit identifies 13 separate dildos that Bad Dragon claims have been copied (and renamed) by SinSaint, which was incorporated in New York last year. The colorful silicone toys feature scales, tentacles, suction cups, and other design elements meant to mimic the genitalia of dragons, sea creatures, and other fantastical characters.
Some of the Bad Dragon products that SinSaint is accused of swiping are “Kelvin the Ice Dragon,” “Stan the T. Rex,” and “Vergil the Drippy Dragon.” SinSaint has not been accused of pirating other Bad Dragon offerings like “Jason the Demogorgon” or “Cuttlefish of Cthulhu.”
According to the lawsuit, SinSaint’s counsel last month stated that the company had begun removing “some of the allegedly infringing listings for product redesign.” This response, Bad Dragon contended, was “unacceptable,” adding that it “continues to be harmed by Defendant’s ongoing, unlawful conduct.”
The Bad Dragon complaint seeks an order enjoining SinSaint from continuing any further alleged
copyright infringement and seeks “disgorgement of all of Defendant’s profits” related to the artificial penises. The company may also seek statutory damages of up to $150,000 for each of the dildos in question.
For more than a decade, Bad Dragon has sought trademark and copyright protection for various product lines. While often successful, the firm’s application to trademark its “Cum Tube” was abandoned after a government attorney rejected the ejaculating dildo because the “applied-for mark consists of or includes immoral or scandalous matter.” The application included a very NSFW image, which can be found on the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office website.
According to an August 2023 trademark application, SinSaint’s owner is Oleg Semenenko, 50, a resident of Brooklyn’s gated Seagate community. Semenenko lives less than a mile from SinSaint’s warehouse, which shares an address with GlobMarble, an industrial molds business for which Semenenko is listed as “manager” in a separate trademark application filed this month.
In a brief interview today, Semenenko was asked how a dildo firm grew out of his original business. “We work with rubber,” he replied. Semenenko dismissed Bad Dragon’s claim that its products were unique and original: “How can octopus hand can be your idea?” (4 pages) ____________________________________________
Hope the judge that did the recent trump case gets this one, even though I know that's basically impossible, just the thought of making him listen to hours of testimony about how these rubber fantasy dildos are protected by copyright or trademark law, or something like that is funny to me.
It's not a revenge thing wanting it, just a keep him humble thing. I know you think you're hot shit now, so here listen to these arguments for a bit.
Totally different note, I'm wondering how long until the discourse starts up, or if it has already started up, where using horse dildos is either bestiality or a gateway to bestiality because what with the way people treat cartoons of fictional people I can't imagine it's far off or not already here.
Look to japan for the tentacle ones.........

the body types of the inkfish in splatoon, what's with them?
Tumblr media
this post will obviously have vague references to weight, but not in a serious way. warning you regardless though!
the anatomy of inklings and octolings, or the inkfish in general, is something that continues to interest me. this post will be mainly revolving around them. as you know, there are many defining features between the two species. round or pointy ears, a/symmetrical teeth, connective eye masks or a lined eye look, ten or eight tentacles, the list goes on. however, something that stays consistent within either species if that their body types remain the exact same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the squid sisters and off the hook for reference. as you can see, putting aside obvious differences between the two species and height, their features are identical. this also applies to any player characters. why is this? let's look more into it.
as i'm sure you are aware, beauty standards more than likely play some kind of role in the designs of idols and avatars. real idols and celebrities are really skinny a majority of the time so it makes sense they'd incorporate it into the designs because of this.
that's not all, though. wouldn't that be too easy?
while typical standards of beauty definitely contribute, personally i believe that isn't the only reason.
something important to remember when talking about the anatomy of the octolings and inklings is that they aren't humans, and naturally will not have the same features. anything from their lack of bones, sensitivity to water, {water isn't lethal to them and can only be harmful in staggering amounts} ink assumingly playing a part in their hydration, their lack of actual hair, thin skin, really the only things "human" about them are that they have limbs, {along with fingers and toes} skin, their facial structures, and the fact they can speak.
Tumblr media
bigfin reef squid
Tumblr media
real squids and octopuses, even cuttlefish, are really low in fat. from what i can gather, octopus and squid have anywhere from one to six grams of fat per a few ounces. going back with what i said earlier, inkfish are not people, and it's highly plausible that they have a different acceptable body fat range than humanity, and can survive and thrive on very little. this, along with the fact that essentially all younger inkfish are very active, i believe play huge roles in their physique. fat also likely stores in them in the same places, as with real cephalopods.
caribbean reef octopus
conclusion,
do beauty standards have a part with appearances in splatoon? i can almost guarantee. though, it's crucial to remember that the way inkfish present anatomically and the way humans do have a large contrast. inkfish are very heavily based on real cephalopods, and the developers of splatoon are very intentional when it comes to character design and referencing what species they're based on, so i'm going to say that it's safe to assume that this is another huge reason for how they look physically.
what do you think? feel free to let me know. this is something that's floated in my mind on and off, but just today i started really thinking about it. thanks for reading.

Today's fact of the day is inspired by some advanced studying I was doing on genetics :)
Fact of the day:
Octopuses can edit their own genes!
Cephalopods like squids, cuttlefish, and octopuses are incredibly intelligent and wily creatures—so much so that they can rewrite the genetic information in their neurons. Instead of one gene coding for one protein, which is normally the case, a process called recoding lets one octopus gene produce multiple proteins.

Day 1 Lisbon in 32,729 steps
Oh my! I am feeling weary after a big day of walking. I slow climbed into a hot bath when I returned at about 8.30pm.
The weather was not as cool as I anticipated, a lovely high of 17° and only a little sprinkle of rain at around 5pm.
I started the day at the hotel buffet and had my first Pastel de nata. It actually tasted quite good, but I do understand why the one I had later in the day at Manteigaria was award winning. It was served warm and the pastry was lighter and the filling creamier. It may have helped that I purchased a shot of Espinheira with it (it was basically "I'll have what she's having"!)
I first walked to the glamorous El Corte Inglés department store to see what the fuss might be about. I ended up using the WC and buying a bottle of water! I'm thinking the summer sales will be on when I return to Lisbon at the end of May and my suitcase might be a bit lighter.
I then headed up and down a few hills to a recommended cafe, Comoba, for a local latte (galão) before moving onto lunch at Time Out Market Lisboa for lunch. The codfish croquette was recommended at Croqueteria. It was the tastier of the three I had (cuttlefish with squid ink and tuna were the other two), with a side of sweet potato crisps, creamed spinach and a glass of rose for €12. I met Mary and Elaine from Kentucky (now retired, but former work colleagues) who were sitting beside me also trying to work out the process for ordering. They are on a short trip, river cruise up the Duoro River to Salamanca, Spain and return. Elaine totally got me when I mentioned my "gap" years, particularly the one sans men. And they reported they were very happily retired (although Elaine did say she was volunteering for 15 hours per week). They seemed to also keep themselves occupied with several short overseas holidays.
For the afternoon I'd pre-booked the 2.5+ hour Sandemans New Europe walking tour with Nuno (originally from the north of Portugal, he moved to Lisbon in 2012 to pursue acting). The itinerary included the central district of Bairro Alto and a visit to the oldest bookstore in the world (Bertrand), several cool views of Lisbon, including from the Santa Justa Elevator, a history lesson on the Great Earthquake of 1755 and the intriguing story of the peaceful Carnation Revolution and the end of the dictatorship on 24th April 1974 and lots of food recommendations.
I ended the evening with dinner at Sebastião, pre-booked on the Fork app. I ate a whole roasted octopus (the waiter assured me it was ok to eat everything) with sautéed turnip tops and sweet potato. It was a large meal and quite tasty (aside from a couple of gritty bits), served with a lovely glass of red he recommended that wasn't on the menu. The waiter also gave me a very basic Portugese language lesson, apparently it's mostly a nasal language and the words I have been using are all a bit wrong. Bring on those classes this week in Alvor.
My favourite human contact today was with Mary and Elaine from Kentucky.
Best food - definitely the Pastel de Nata at Confeitaria da Gloria.
Best beverage - the latte at Comoba.
Most interesting story - the Carnation Revolution and how recent that really was and Nuno's perspective that over the past 10 years "Portugal" is acknowledging and taking responsibility for all the wrong doings from the past and changing the language to describe this, eg instead of "slave trading" saying "human trafficking".

i made some plushies today out of one of my little sister's old dresses (it was ripping, so it couldn't be worn anymore)
so i made a snake, and i made what's supposed to be a cuttlefish/dumbo octopus inspired ocean creature! the Creature doesn't have any eyes yet though 😅
(also the snake's tongue is made of some pants leg material- those pants were way too long until i cut off part of the legs!)

Hello! Following Milk's idea, any other topics or fun facts you want to talk about? I hope you're having a good day!
Oh hoh hoh!! Another change to spit out random facts I know? Thank you very much, Moth!! (I hope you are having a lovely day yourself! *hugs you*)
The topic today is statocysts, specifically those of cephalapods!
Secondary fun fact to start us off: translated literally, "cephalopod" (Squid, octopi, nautilidae, cuttlefish, or other members of the molluscan class Cephalopoda) means "Head-feet"! Which, if you've ever looked at an octopus, you can understand:
Tumblr media
So. Cephalaopods live in the water, right? This means they don't hear the same way humans, or indeed most vertebrates do. Humans hear because the sound hits the eardrum, gets passed on through middle and inner ear, and then is sent up the auditory nerve to the brain.
Cephalopods have two sacs near the base of their brain called statocysts. They're filled with fluid and lined with hair cells that connect to the brain via nerves. This makes them similar to human ears, except that statocysts have a little piece of calcium carbonate inside them called a statolith.
Tumblr media
When the cephalopod moves, the statolith moves around too, which allows the hair cells, and therefore nerves and brain, to process the movement. This is a little like how the human vestibular system detects balance and equilibrium. (How you know if you're upright or leaning to the side, laying down, etc.)
However, since cephalopods have these statocysts instead of vertebrate ears, they do not exactly "hear" sound, but instead sense how fast particles are accelerating due to the vibrations that a human might hear audibly.
This became a field of study partially because of an abnormal amount of dead squid washing up on beaches in the early 2000s. It was discovered that certain human equipment, such as sonar or air guns used to search for oil, were damaging the statocysts in nearby cephalopods. The sounds caused lesions, swollen nerves, and other injuries that would have caused the squid to lose their ability to orient themselves.
This spurred on a more direct look into how human technology is affecting marine life, as well as the vastly unknown field of cephalopod sensory processing.
Here are some sources for those who are curious:

Helloooo!! Hope you’re well!! Hope u don’t mind the ask but I See asa in your pfp and have to ask if u have started csm part 2…….
also I want to share the one (1) octopus I know of the top of my head which is consequently very venomous and Tiny; the blue ringed octopus! One of the two octopi with lethal venom, though I think you probably know about it already! I think it’s very cute though hdjdgdbf especially the fact that it can bite (?) apparently
Tumblr media
Hey, hi!! I’m. So sorry, I was fast asleep by the time you sent in this ask. I hope today is kind to you! Stretch & hydrate when you see this!
I did! I pretty much speed-read it like maybe two (?) weeks ago, although I haven’t had the energy to read the past 2 chapters. Which? Wouldn’t even take long, it would take like 10 minutes but my brain refuses to let me. Regardless, I got it done with! The slight change in art-style (especially with Denji) took a second to get used to but, it was nice to return to it after so long. I missed it, oddly. Also here’s the full image + Yoru:
Tumblr media
ALSO HI, WHAT A LITTLE GUY. Thank you for sharing it with me. I believe it’s one of the most (?) venomous creatures in the ocean. Although all octopi and cuttlefish have venom, this little guy and the Mototi octopus are the only octopi equipped with lethal venom, like you said!! Though this guy is definitely the one with more popularity to his name, probably due to the yearly attacks. It has such a pretty pattern though… it also helps in warding off predators but. Pretty colours.

Oh boy let's get some more of these fish folk out of the way today
The DEEPONES of Lovecraftian lore. Chiefly featured in the Shadow of Innsmouth, they are also referenced in the short story, Dagon, which itself takes the name of a Mesopotamian deity associated with fish, commonly conflated with...
OANNES is a figure of Mesopotamian mythology considered to be the earliest mythological account of a merman/maid like figure. He is described as having the face of both fish and man, body of fish, but legs of a man, and is often depicted as basically just a guy wearing a fish as a hood. It's a shame this cool hermitcrab-man design didn't stick around.
GILLMORE feels like it should be referencing the "Gill-man" from the Creature from the Black Lagoon and its sequels, but the phonetics seem to have dodged that... Instead we have what is verymuch the Japanese approximation of the name Gilmour/Gilmore. Eventually it just ends up a fish, which is disappointing.
GILLSERPENT is weird.... it only appears in WA2 and you'd think might be some offshoot of GILLMORE, but then they go back to GILLMORE later anyway... Also why is it colored very specifically to look like an orca??
MAD ANGLER is actually a reference to another obscure Mobile Suit Gundam ship, a Zeon forces submarine. Like GILLMORE, I'm pretty disappointed that we lost a cool fishman design to just an octopus...
CUTTLEFISH is just a cuttlefish. And I've no idea what is up with SKIDLANCER. Was it supposed to be SQUID LANCER? In any case neither ever show up again and appear unrelated to any later squid/octopus related monsters despite being the first in the franchise. They aren't even related to the KRAKEN, which dodges being remotely tentacled at all, but we'll get to that later...
BALLOT FISH was a misromanization of BULLET FISH. HORNED HELM is exactly as it appears. These two don't make it out of WA1 but the single horn on a giant fish seems like the obvious origin point for the later model, even if they never share any names.
RAHAB is a Hebrew term used for a number of different things, but the one most obviously associated here being one used to identify a sea monster. There's actually not a whole lot of canonical detail to get into so it's sort of vague.
TRIFINDRAKE is a weird one that comes out of left field. It doesn't appear to reference anything at all. So I guess it should just be taken as a literal descriptor of a Drake with 3 fins? Feels really random for how specific a lot of WA monsters tend to be, but then I guess BULLETFISH and SKIDLANCER are in here too...
SEABISHOP showed up in the boss tournament polls but they're exactly what they say on the tin; a thing from the sea with a pointed head like a bishop's hat.
DORADO is just the Spanish word for "gold" and is the name of two different types of fish popular in sport fishing. Given the prevalence of one of the other in Japanese pop culture, I'm just gonna assume this is referencing the Salminus brasiliensis.
OMEN FISH seems pretty vague, but could be a reference to the giant Oar Fish? In Japan and a few other coastal Pacific countries they're known to be bad omens, as they often swim to the surface, outside of their deep sea habitat, when disturbed by deep sea tremors, making their flight into shallow water a sign of coming earthquakes. But sadly, while actual Oar Fish are super cool looking --they're mythologically considered emissaries of the dragon palace, said to be on the ocean floor-- the monster design is just a fish.
horrendously localized as ICHTYOTIGER the Japanese is clearly an approximation of ICHTHYOSTEGA, a tetrapod dating back to the Late Devonian period, showing some of the earliest evolutionary developments from fish toward legged amphibians.

Soul-Mate idea where when you touch you see color, but one of them is a cuttlefish in a touch tank because they agreed (reluctantly) to be in the tank, and their soul mate accidentally falls into the tank, grabs them thinking they’re a rock, and throwing it at an enemy face. Cuttlefish squirts ink while their soul mate, who hasn’t realized they’ve touched theirs, panics because they just threw a fish, and they toss the cuttlefish back into the tank and take out the bad guys. Cuttlefish is all like “Oh hell no” and stays a fish, because coming out of a touch tank naked might be a little much even for them, and proceeds to use a rock  and their ability to squirt water to propel themselves in the enemy faces and takes a nice bite. The poor human grabs them before they can dry out and dumps them back in the tank, where they are immediately snatched up by the person who asked them to be in the tank to make sure they’re okay.
so when the adrenaline wears down, the human, who has touched a number of people, is distraught to realize that somewhere in their fight/flight, they touched their SOUL MATE, and have no idea who it is.
Meanwhile, the cuttlefish, a Sepiida who cannot see color, turns back into a human, black, blue, and holy shit was your shirt always that color? And promptly freaks out that they can see color, but they’ve been touched all day and no one has said anything about seeing color suddenly, so now they don’t know who their soul mate is.
Cue two people who keep coming back to the aquarium in human form, but just missing each other, until one day, the human is standing in front of the touch tank, looking at a despondant cuttlefish, and goes, “I gotta be crazy. There is no fucking way I’m soul mated to a fish.”
And the cuttlefish shifter perks up, and comes swimming to the surface to get a better look, and the human just stands there a little shellshocked when the cuttlefish waves a tentacle at them. “Okay, so maybe... my soul mate is a squid.”
Which the cuttlefish suddenly becomes a human, leaning out of the touch tank and smiling coyly, all while saying, “Actually, I’m a shifter, and I can do an octopus too. But specifically, I was a cuttlefish.” and all the human can do is go “Oh thank god you’re fucking human because tentacles are so not my thing today but hey maybe later” and kisses the ever loving shit out of the naked human while the touch tank operator is just covering their eyes and silently praying that this will be over soon while trying to blind-dial their boss into coming and getting these two idiots before any kids walk in.

Day 10 - Whyalla, Why not?
Today we completed our loop around South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, returning to Port Augusta, the town from where we embarked upon this peregrination.
We had stayed overnight at Tumby Bay a small sleepy coastal town about 50 kms north of Port Lincoln. To our delight we discovered- purely by chance that the rising full moon created reflections on the sand flats at low tide, something akin to the “ stairway to the moon” effect that Broome is famous for.
It was certainly a spectacular sight!
Tumby Bay has, like every single town we visited in the Eyre Peninsula-a jetty. This one unfortunately is the only one we came across in our travels that was closed due to being in a state of severe disrepair.
The jetty is renowned for being a site for the Leafy Seadragons; so much so that the sea dragon is almost an informal mascot for the town. I am no diver- I once did the PADI introductory course but have gone no further and never will ; so had to pass up on the opportunity to mingle with, inter alia, sea dragons, pyjama squid, blue ringed octopus, and cuttlefish.
Just a few kilometres up the coast heading to Port Augusta lie the towns of Port Neil, Arno Bay and Cowell. Each is a pretty seaside town; each has a jetty; a Viterra grain silo dominating the landscape as far as the eye can see; and a caravan park. Cowell though appears to be prosperous and thriving; Port Neil and Arno seem to be just about getting by; to do our best to support the small towns we bought a takeaway lunch at Arno jetty cafe.
We spent the rest of the day at Whyalla, the big steel making town just south of Port Augusta. David Attenborough did a piece on the annual giant cuttlefish spawning event at Whyalla, bringing it to world attention; but that event is half a year away - well May/ June each year. Something worth returning to Whyalla for I suppose.
So we made do by visiting Heritage Hill, the unusual circular jetty and then driving 30 odd kms out of town to the very pretty Fitzgerald Bay and the Point Lowly lighthouse - now no longer functional. A pretty spot indeed with the Flinders Ranges across the Spenser Gulf clearly visible; and the beautiful turquoise/ blue waters.
And with that it was time for us to head to Port Augusta for the night and to call an end to this journey of discovery around the Eyre Peninsula.
And that also concludes this series of diary notes/ blog posts - whatever you may call it.
From tomorrow we head home on roads we know well and along places we have been before, so there is little we anticipate in the nature of unexpected discoveries.
