Sometimes I like to tease my brain into picturing what would have happened if Manwë did not send Thorondor to help Fingon rescue Maedhros, and the latter would have then died there on Thangorodrim

#when you think of it -this small mercy- keeping Maedhros alive triggers so many butterfly effects in the later years #but also Fingon being the one to kill Maedhros and walking back with this burden and horrible emotional scar to the Lake #civil wars erupting. fingon just being broken beyond repair. the Fëanoreans Not Having Any of this. #war war war and the Noldor collapsing onto themselves #while Melkor just sat there drinking wine being bored the elves are killing each other and ruining his groove #the silmarillion
