When company called, they'd dress up their odd jobs man in an old lodge uniform so he'd look like a butler. They said the Prince of Wales was a distant relative. And when he came over here, he certainly acted DISTANT, too.

[ID: George dozes off and begins snoring. /end] Guest: They had four daughters. All pop-eyed. Their clothes always looked as though they were thrown on 'em. For ten years, the oldest one talked about marrying a nobby looking millionaire FOR LOVE. Finally, she was glad to get a husband who ran a mail order laundry... or something.

[ID: At the end of the guest's monologue, George blearily wakes up. /end] Guest: Everybody said the boys took after their father. I'll say they did, too. I saw them take after him one Sunday morning for throwing flatirons back at the mother, and if he hadn't been a good runner, it would have been "Pop, GOODNIGHT!" George: GOO'NIGHT! GOO'NIGHT! GOING SO SOON?

[ID: The guest, seething, puts her large feathered hat on in a mirror in the entryway. In another room, Jo happily grabs a half-asleep George by the collar. /end] Jo: You old dear! I thought you were asleep. That was a splendid opportunity and I'm glad you were quick witted enough to take advantage of it.

We as a society do not talk enough about Lisa Cuddy and her relationship with her mother. I love you both but I like her more. The fact that Cuddy doesn’t have a standard family. That she is passionate about her work but still cares for her daughter by herself. That just she has different priorities than her mother - and because of that, even being wildly successful and a great parent, still is criticized. And it’s not that much about high expectations as it is about different ones. That her sister fullfills them better just by having picked a different path in life, and that she’s the one to defend Arlene. It’s about not even being that deviant from the norm and still doing it wrong. And still, when push comes to shove, her mother cares about Cuddy - to the point of trying to bring her and House back together - but can’t bring herself to show it. God damn it.

[ID: George paces around the room with the phone. Jo peeks in at him from the other room. /end] George: What? Oh, I thought you said your name was Skoocher! Well, there's no use in getting all steamed up, silly. If you'd let someone else chew your gum while you're talking, it would... Well, if you did crown me, it would be the last BIG job you'd try to handle.

[ID: George leans his hind end on the top of an end table as Jo enters the room. /end] George: No, I don't know any Bill Bloocher! Suicide

A/N This is my family's story. Please seek help if you feel that this is the only way.

It is also written for the February prompts: Inspired and Bungled

In memory of Earl ( Red) Foland, my grandfather.

The shock of it ran through my family like his shots ran out that day. It wasn’t known or spoke about. A secret. A bumbling burden that none could fully bare.

 

I nearly recall him, this big Irish man with the brogue that attracted my grandma all those years ago. The inspiration for my mom’s clinging to my father. This man, my grandfather, died by his own hand when I was five.  He took my step-grandmother, Ruth, with him. Murder/ suicide hidden from my brother and me for many years.

 

My grandma remarried and he was our grandpa, the only one we knew. He helped me learn to ride a bike, beat my butt when I disappeared one day ( they thought me drowned in the pool). It was to him I presented my first son.

 

He was an excellent grandpa. He wasn’t my birth one though. I don’t  remember my mom sitting down and telling me about my grandfather. Not the specifics of it, anyway. I do recall wondering what made him do it. Why did he hurt himself and Ruth and us? What was so bad that he left that stain on his family, left his eldest ( my mom) so depressed that she put up with my dad’s cheating and abuse for far to long? Would it have been different had he lived and been there for her and us?

 

I will never know. I do now know he had undiagnosed bipolar, the same disease that his eldest great-grandson carries. I can’t and don’t blame him. Still I wonder, what if? What if he would have sought help? What if he was there to see the abuse his daughter and grandchildren suffered? What if he was there to help my Joshua through his own suffering? What would have been different?  Would our bungled lives have gone smoother? What would he inspired us to do and be?

 

Seek help you guys. If you feel that there is no where to turn, please don’t give up! There is help out there. Reach out. Don’t chose the permanent solution to a temporary problem. Not for yourself or the family you will leave behind. And all their questions.

Fantasy Guide to Ambassadors

How do different kingdoms negotiate when there aren't any phones or Microsoft Teams available? How can one government let another government how they feel? How can one monarch deliver an insult or compliment to another? Ambassadors, of course.

The Role of Ambassadors

Ambassadors are representatives of a government or monarchy who live in another country and communicates with their host nation on behalf of their own country. Ambassadors are there to make sure that their country's needs are met and that their host nation remains a friend - or at least they are there to remind the host nation of why it's a good idea to be friends.

Ambassadors tend to act as eyes and ears of their government/monarch, reporting back on all the goings on in the country they have been assigned. They can tell their boss the local tea, what the political climate of their host nation, who meets with the head of state and who doesn't. The Ambassador is there to pass on messages from their master and receive messages directly from the opposing head of state.

How to Ambassador Successfully & Not Start a War

The Ambassador must at all times be respectful toward their host nation. They must abide by their customs, behave themselves, act always in a professional manner and guard the information they handle with care and their lives. Ambassadors are welcomed into the country with a private audience with the head of state, wherein their references are accepted and their role is formally acknowledged. After this, they may only approach the government or monarch by appointment or after being summoned. Their boss would communicate their wishes and words to them and it would be up to the Ambassador to pass these things along, albeit more skillfully and more diplomatically.

The Perks of Being an Ambassador

Ambassadors can live at an official residence called an embassy like today or they can reside at court. They can take their families with them if they choose and are usually paid to establish a good sized household. Ambassadors are usually rewarded with honours and titles, if they are successful in their post or after a long posting. Ambassadors can also be awarded orders and honours by their host, along with places of honour for their family if they reside within them.

Ambassadors are usually welcomed and treated with great respect (if their country is an enemy, they are still treated well in hopes that things don't esculate). Ambassadors are invited to most important gatherings, included in the celebrations at court and spend much of their time at society events (i.e. intelligence gathering). Ambassadors can also get rich on their work, they could sell out their country's secrets to their host nation or even accept bribes to pass on false information to the boss.

The Downsides of Being an Ambassador

Ambassadors do have to leave their homeland for their job, this can mean a long posting away from family and from their own people. Ambassadors can be blamed for rifts or bungled international relations. They may even be accused of taking bribes or being corrupted. Ambassadors could also face being spied on, particularly in a nation that is hostile to their nation. Ambassadors can also be the target of violence from their country's enemies or the focus of emnity by the host nation itself. Very often in times of war of political turmoil, an Ambassador can be expelled from the country. When you're the symbol of a nation and you're in reach of enemies, you are in considerable danger (though it's not recommended to kill an ambassador, it's sort of against the rules).

Who can be an Ambassador?

Ambassadors are usually found amongst the nobility or within government. They are usually chosen by:

Pedigree: The better kind of person you send would mean a bigger compliment to the people the country want to make an ally. Sending a Duke would be a great compliment while sending a simple government official might be seen as an insult. To offer somebody high-ranking is to signal you trust the nation.

Skills: Communication skills are key. Knowledge of the languages and customs of the nation are required. Any ability for espionage, good social skills and a likeabilty would be recommended too.

Political Affiliation: Ambassadors are mouthpieces for their masters. It is generally smart to chose somebody who shares or endorses your view on politics. For example, you wouldn't send an Ambassador hungry for war to a nation you want to make peace with.

Loyalty and Uncorruptability: If you're picking somebody to speak for you and handle very sensitive information, you will chose somebody loyal to you and somebody you trust not to be led astray by the other nation or spies.

Tyson Deserved Better - Who Actually Tried To Be Better To Him?

Poseidon Crimes: completely neglects his son, aside from signing him up for school and directing him to Percy

Poseidon Amends: claims Tyson at chb to save Tyson's life, invites Tyson to live in Atlantis where he has a place to live (in a palace no less), food to eat, and other family. Everything provided + free education and a job. No on-screen apology to Tyson tho.

Percy Crimes: Denies that Tyson is his brother (in the same breath that he defends Tyson saying that hes not a monster).

Percy Amends: Calls Tyson his baby brother in front of everyone he previously denied their relationship. Attempts to apologize on screen to Tyson but bungles it up.

Annabeth Crimes: Calls Tyson an "it", "gross" and countless other insults including "monster." She also tried to stop Percy from saving Tyson's life.

Annabeth Amends: Says that the quest she was on was only possible because of Tyson. (Aka. Tyson gets a pass because he was useful and loyal). No attempt at an apology to Tyson's face.

Tyson deserved apologies to his face from all three of these characters, on screen but we never see it. Smh Rick you dropped the ball here.
