It’s a story about the courage of regular people when put to the test. It’s not just the fantasy setting and mythology though, The Banner Saga is a human story at its core. Please just trust me when I tell you it is easily one of the greatest video game stories ever told. Or is it? The story that lives across The Banner Saga and The Banner Saga 2 is best experienced rather than listened to or read about. A giant serpent has come to destroy the world and it seems all hope is lost. The world feels as though it’s ending to the people who live in it and they’re right. At the same time, the ancient enemy of man and Varl, the Dredge, have returned. The world has been stuck in an infinite day since the sun stopped moving across the sky. What exactly is this amazing story? Well, that’s a little harder to explain. It’s an incredible narrative achievement for video games and one that I think should be looked at as an aspirational goal. I want them to suffer and I want to be there to make sure they never harm anyone again.Ĭlearly, The Banner Saga 2 had a profound emotional effect on me, but I don’t think it’s possible to play it without feeling something. And the reverse is true of the less likeable characters. I truly want to see these characters victorious and happy, because they deserve it. It’s not just about the end game result anymore. They’re my family and after hours of striving to protect them, to help them survive and working to make the right choices, I want to do right by them. I’d even go so far as to say that I care more about my characters in The Banner Saga 2 than I do in any other game. The Banner Saga 2 hits the perfect balance between show and tell and manages to make you care about your ragtag collection of characters. Rarely is the storytelling in games this good and what’s more impressive is that it’s largely told through dialogue and action, not large swathes of text. Instead, it has an epic story to tell and one that would be worthy of the best of Robert Jordan, Tolkien and George R.R. You see, The Banner Saga 2, isn’t just a typical RPG. However, it’s outside battle that most of the action occurs. The majority of gameplay is spent doing battle with various enemies on a grid. Like its predecessor, The Banner Saga 2 is a tactical turn-based RPG. And just like the first game’s release on Switch, The Banner Saga 2 on Switch, is a perfect port. There are a wealth of improvements and new features that make The Banner Saga 2 stand head and shoulders above the first game. Everything great about The Banner Saga is improved in The Banner Saga 2. However, The Banner Saga 2 isn’t content to just rest on its laurels. The Banner Saga 2 continues the story we left in the first game and acts as the darker, second Act. Set within a Norse mythology inspired universe, The Banner Saga features men, the large and almost invincible Varl, the Dredge and, in The Banner Saga 2, the Horseborn. I was late to the party with The Banner Saga, having only played the first game when it was released on Switch.

The one unambiguous crossover for FTL I could find is a Rockman assist character in Fraymakers, which as the "a" implies is never specified as a specific Rockman (like, say, Ariadne) and is therefore ineligible.

So lacking a more straightforward path, we're going to have to take a bit of an iffy detour through Australian actor, video game enthusiast, DidYouKnowGaming? collaborator, and noted Game Grumps fan Vitas Varnas.

If there's an indie game that had a fairly well-known crowdfunding campaign, especially with some substantial higher-tier backer rewards, there's a decent chance Varnas helped back it. Broken Age, The Banner Saga, Mighty No. 9, Shovel Knight, and Wasteland 2 are among the many games he's thanked in as a backer and can be spotted in some minor capacities. Naturally, one of them was FTL.

Through this backer reward, a random male human crewmember can be named "Vitas Varnas". You can absolutely quibble over whether it makes sense to count this as the same "character" as the real Vitas Varnas, but the restriction that the crewmember must be male and human in order to be named Vitas Varnas, combined with a general lack of default names for crewmembers (bar special ones like Kazaaak), is basically enough for me.

If you allow that, Varnas has also lent his voice to Thimbleweed Park as part of yet another backer reward.

Hello anonymous friend!! Not many people caught that first part so I won't say anything other than stay tuned.

The last part is honestly how I move when it comes to this story. If I have a feeling, I act on it. I figured this would come up since we now have grandchildren so here it goes:

I do not have a specific plan outlined like you have (in terms of week 1, week 2, etc). This is a story so it could take many forms. I remember doing a poll once to see what folks wanted to see. Most wanted to see me incorporate all of the main cast going forward or whatever I wanted to do. So, I decided that I'm going to focus primarily on Hope (like we began with Indya), and as ideas come, we'll incorporate the rest of her family.

I don't have a schedule set for how my brain wants to compose this saga, I just roll with it. But trust that I haven't forgot about my OGs and Dira, DJ, Ryker (like the jail) and Amaya. So I guess its stay tuned on that too.

hello! So I got Siege on Młynars banner, a bit disappointed but oh well

I'm just here to ask if I should bother raising her, currently I have no 6* vanguards other than her but Ive always heard the other ones are significantly better, just like.. what are her strengths and such in comparison

It's true that Siege is the target of much derision for having a more primitive skillset (she was the very first 6 star vanguard) than the other Vanguards that came after her, but also she still does have her strengths even now.

Siege's best offer is convenience. Her bread and butter skill, S2, is automatically activated, holds charges, and deals good AOE damage while making DP. At E2, she gets 1 SP for every enemy that dies next to her, so combined with her S2 she's able to convert mass waves of trash enemies into DP.

You may see direct comparisons to Saga's S2, which is Siege's S2 with longer range and higher damage. The main difference however, is that Saga's is manually activated. And while many will argue that it makes the skill better as you have more control, you may find yourself getting tired of manually clicking her to activate her skill once every few seconds in stages that can get very busy. Siege doesn't have this issue, as you can just set her down and leave her to do her thing.

In the future however, Siege's 2nd module ends up being a major upgrade for her, as it turns her +1 SP per enemy killed into +3 at Module level 3 (tripled her numbers lol), while also giving +1 SP to any random vanguard on the team. I saw a bunch of comments when it first came out saying it was trash and it wasn't what I wanted from Siege either, but it's good. With a certain other Vanguard, it becomes really, really good.

When you have 6 star Charger Vanguard Bagpipe on the same team as Siege with her Module 2, the DP they can pump out with a steady stream of enemies rivals the famous Flagpipe (Flagbearer + Bagpipe) combos, except unlike the Flagbearers, Siege can actually fight. Their combo is now one of the best openers for stages that throw large waves at you attempting to overwhelm you with numbers, and it's all completely automatic with Siege S2 and Bagpipe S2.

Review of some anti-Tony comments I saw on Ao3. Part 2

I'm back with a new episode. Hope you are excited. I am. "Pepper told Tony to save universe". Ok, this time we are going to travel a little bit in the future from Civil War – what are we going to see in Avengers Endgame? The dialogue starts at 0:41:50. Tony just invented a controlled time travel and put his daughter to bed. But we should probably take a closer look at why he invented it, and then we’ll return to Pepper. Tony lost Peter, who was like a son to him, and we will return to that later, cause we have some statements about Peter here. He felt guilt because of that. In Spider Man Homecoming he said to him “… if you died… I feel like that’s on me” (1:21:20). Let’s get back even further, to Age of Ultron and look at what Tony sees when Wanda plays with his mind – his greatest fear – Thanos’ army conquered Earth, Avengers are dead, he couldn’t save them (0:10:20). He carries this fear through the Infinity Saga, like a prophecy. Peter’s life is added to that after he met him. And in Infinity War the prophecy partially comes true, half of the universe and Peter are dead. Peter knew Tony will feel guilt, and said “I’m sorry” while dissipating into dust (2:15:30). So, what do we have here: Tony’s greatest fear came true, he is devastated. He feels like it’s all on him. He has a nervous breakdown once back to Earth, and then we will see him only 5 years later. But we do know what he was doing those years – he was studying time travel. He was a physicist, but not an expert in that specific field before. We see him confidently talking about the topic with Scott, Steve and Nat in the Endgame (0:34:20). Then the same day he sees Peter’s photo (0:39:25) and tries to do tests again. Test time travel models. Why again? Because he already has everything ready for it: knowledge, instruments and a lot of failed tests, which we can infer from the scene (0:39:35) and from what he said to others at 0:34:20. At 0:39:35 he said “I’ve got a mild inspiration. I’d like to see if it checks out”. Means he wasn’t truly honest with the team – he thought about time travel before and tried to invent/discover it. He is not starting from scratch in that scene. Memories of Peter gave him an idea, and he succeeded this time. Conclusion: Tony didn’t need others saying him to save the dusted. Like he always did before, he tried to solve the problem on his own. Let’s finally move forward to Pepper, who “said him to save the world”. You are stating that “Tony was trying to refuse saving the dusted”. As we already discovered he did want to return them. He tried to do so. Now he has the solution. He looks at his daughter and wife, and understands that there is a chance that he will lost them, or die. He goes to Pepper not for permission to stay, but for permission to go. We are back at 0:41:50 and what Tony is doing here – he is trying to convince himself not to do it “Something tells me I should put it in a lockbox and drop it to the bottom of the lake and go to bed” (0:42:57), but Pepper knows him, that he will not stop and will not be able to live with it. She says “But would you be able to rest?”. He needed her permission. Basically to risk them, and to die. Let’s go to the last scene of this review – 0:46:20. Here again Tony shows his expertise in time travel physics saying what is going on with Banner’s time travel attempt. Then he is saying “I just want peace. Turns out resentment is corrosive, and I hate it.” He is not saying “Pepper sent me to save the world”. It’s him. He brought himself because it is who he is. And he just can’t do any other way.
