Ahhh thank you so much for the tag @sadeyedlady-writes!! I'm going to have so much fun doing this <3
1. Three non-romantic duos: OOO I cannot choose! For one, it has to be Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, they're so sweet with each other, and their friendship is one I can only dream of having. The trust they have is beautiful and I think that special sort of brotherly love they have is very precious.
For the second one it is Sara Howard and John Moore. I love their dynamic, and although I haven't finished watching the second season of The Alienist, I am already in love with them being together. They get into trouble together, and complain about Lazlo together, they're a very fun pair and I adore them so much!
The third one is Sherlock Holmes and John Watson but from the Russian adaptation from the 70s specifically. They're so kind and good with each other, and they're both so funny. I love this adaptation so much, and I think it is the best television portrayal of the characters. They're so lovely, and they truly care for each other.
2. A ship that might surprise others: Honestly, Maria Hill and Steve Rogers. I don't know why, something about it is just perfect, and I love it, and they are so good together, and I want to see them interact more.
3. Last song: Мальчик мой by Chernikovskaya Hata
4. Last Film: Sharper (2023) I will admit, I started watching it because Sebastian Stan was in it, but I quite enjoyed the premise, and it was overall a pretty fun heist film!
5. Currently reading: The Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum. It's a very difficult read, and the English is really hard, even harder than classics, but it's super good, and I was craving a good old thriller, and this one scratches that itch perfectly. I am also reading The North Water by Ian McGuire, and it's so on the edge of your seat suspenseful, and somewhat graphic, but it's so so so well written, and the atmosphere simply seeps through the pages like nothing else.
6. Currently watching: The Alienist. It's such a well written show, and I love the costumes, and it's all so historically accurate so far. I love the dynamics between the characters, and I love love love psychiatric history which this show has so much of in it, and of course, it has some incredible actors as well!
7. Currently consuming: A caramel and chocolate icecream sandwich and it's so so good.
8. Currently craving: Oh, I want sushi so badly. Some good laks (or lox) as well!
I’m going to tag @writethewolvesaway @catcoffeeenjoyer @mohich and everybody else who sees this and wants to do it! Don't feel pressured to do it if you don't want to as well! <3

“Sensuality of a macron” is super apt omg. I agree. Emma 2020 was very pretty to look at and I appreciated the costumes, but it also felt so sexless and stiff. P&P 2005 feels very lived in - the vibe/aesthetic, the production and costume design, the performances.
Who would you have cast instead of ATJ and Flynn?
You know, my immediate thought for Emma was Elle Fanning because she plays that kind of manic, control freak energy very well on The Great, and is just super good at playing an all-around bitch (which Emma kinda is, imo). But then I remembered how well Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans played off each other in an age gap romance in The Alienist (RIP). Dakota is honestly probably too old to play Emma now, but a) I don't care and b) she and Luke actually have almost the perfect age gap for Emma and Knightley (I think Emma and Knightley have a 17 year gap and and Dakota and Luke have a 15 year gap).
They also had great chemistry. Their relationship was tooootally different from Emma and Knightley's on the show, but I found it super compelling and believable.
So yeah, I'd probably put Dakota with Luke Evans again. Or Elle with Luke Evans. To me, not shying away from the age gap in Emma and Knightley's relationship is kind of important, and doing so is a bit... disingenuous. Idk. It's the kind of thing that "sanitizes" Austen for a modern audience.

'Twenty five years after the late, great Anthony Minghella introduced Patricia Highsmith’s mild-mannered manipulator to a whole new audience, The Talented Mr. Ripley has been reimagined once more – for modern-day streaming consumption.
That means even more time to spend in the company of the softly-spoken sociopath, as he causes chaos for Dickie Greenleaf and friends in sun-soaked early-1960s Italy.
But while some may debate the merits of expanding an already slow-burning thriller to more than five-times the length of Minghella’s very late 20th century masterpiece, there’s no doubting the aesthetic qualities and commitment to craft inherent in Netflix’s eight-episode Ripley.
Creator Steven Zaillian (The Irishman, Moneyball) might have eschewed the Amalfi Coast’s azure blues for the crisp black-and-white that helped make his and Steven Spielberg’s World War II-drama Schindler’s List so compelling, but it helps transport the viewer to another time and place (as does a 60s-infused soundtrack that initially includes hits by Orbison and Humperdinck), while also allowing cinematographer Robert Elswit (Nightcrawler, There Will Be Blood) to make great use of shadows and light for atmosphere-creation and narrative-reflecting.
Likewise, there’s less of a youthful and ensemble feel to the cast, the fresh-faced Matt Damon replaced by the more careworn (and centre-stage) Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock), while Johnny Flynn (One Life, Emma.) and Dakota Fanning (The First Lady, The Alienist) are terrific, slightly older matches for Minghella’s Dickie and girlfriend Marge – Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. And while there will no doubt be groans from some quarters at the restyling of key figure Freddie Miles (played here by Eliot Sumner), it actually feels like a sensible choice, rather than trying to find anyone to top the scene-stealing brilliance of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
For those unfamiliar with the plot of Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel (first adapted for the cinema via 1960’s French tale Plein Soleil), this Ripley follows the European adventures of New York-based Tom (Scott), as an unexpected opportunity lifts him out of borderline poverty and a seemingly perpetual cycle of petty phone and mail-based crimes.
Having tracked him down with the help of a private investigator, shipping magnate Herbert Greenleaf (Kenneth Lonergan) wants to send Tom on a mission – persuade Herbert’s son Dickie, an old schoolmate of Tom’s, to come home. Convinced his offspring is no painter or writer, Herbert is frustrated by his years of “sailing and drinking and avoiding responsibility”, living “in a place around Naples” off a trust fund “we stupidly set up and can’t legally take off him”, contact only maintained by “an occasional postcard”.
Initially, Tom is unsure, until his apartment’s plumbing goes south and the prospect of a salary and an all-expenses paid trip to Italy’s southern coast prove too tempting to resist. However, once there, he quickly fesses up about the plan, admitting that “I’m not someone who takes advantage of people”.
But while Dickie thinks he’s genuine, Marge isn’t so sure, especially when her beau begins spending more time with his reacquainted college pal than her.
What follows is Highsmith’s captivating cat-and-mouse tale, here given copious amounts of time and space to develop and unfold, twist and turn the tension all the way up to 11.
While the production, costume design and overall mise en scène is quite frankly intoxicating, it’s Scott who provides the sizzle and dramatic meat of the story, giving his duplicitous and dangerous Tom a real edge behind the outwardly effortless charm and insouciant smile.'

I just wish for one (1) period drama to not show a corset slicing a woman in half with its boning and making her bleed THAT WAS NOT THE PURPOSE OF A CORSET.
First, corsets were not worn in direct contact with the skin, you are supposed to wear a shift under it.
Second, corsets and stays were not meant to make your waist look smaller by breaking your ribs and leaving you out of breath. People used paddings, hoop skirts, and things of that sort to achieve the desirable silhouette. Corsets were a support, and a foundation to make the clothes sit smoother. Cases of tightlacing were not so common.
Third and final point, fashion was one of the only ways for women to express themselves, through colors, accessories, ecc. Tight corsets and latest fashions were often associated with feminist movements and greatly frowned upon by a large part of society.
Y'all have plenty of ways to tell women were mistreated in the past, don't just rely on old misconceptions, please.

Quick question as someone who just started watching The Alienist and who is not an expert on the fashion of the 1890s: why is Sara not wearing anything under her corset? Weren’t they supposed to wear chemises or at least something under there?
