how dare u make my noritoshi obsession 10 times worse
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noritoshi spews his true feelings when you're upset with him. Similar to a very eager puppy trying to regain your favor by any means...... but realizes what he says and blames you for turning him into a fool. Another downside for him is that he won't take his words back in fear of you getting the wrong idea.
you're just a bully that he hopes will forget about the embarrassing words he blurted out.
hes simultaneously reeling and embarrassed. is this what happens when you make your love upset? does that imply he's your love?!

more of the cam cafe au, this time with strilonde family dynamic
so dave and rose are siblings and they both had their kids very young (other parents dipped out as soon as possible). they helped each other out with raising the kids while working on their careers, so the trio grew up very close to each other, roxy often acting as a mediator between dirk and hal as they were on each others cases basically since birth lmfao
gonna do the j squad next but holy shit is their family tree... complex

How do we feel about Beach wear Noritoshi....
Tumblr media
Everyone thinks he'd go covered head to toe wearing those wet suits divers use, but no. Noritoshi isn't the type to want to attract attention to himself when it's not needed, so he'd try to blend in. Emphasis on try.
He's the guy wearing a covering or some shit. I think you'd have to fight him to wear a translucent one. (if you splash him with water, you'll acheive the same effect thoughahahaha) even though it's a beach, he's trying to find an appropriate way to cover up, hes just like that. yes to sunscreen ofc. I can see him in a sun hat, but it's not his.. maybe he took it from one of the girls
HIS HAIR WOULD BE UP BC ITD BE TOO HOT AND THE SUN HAT WOULD HELP HIM FROM GETTING OVERHEATED H.H....H IS FACE WOULD BE FLUSHED BC OF THE HEAT AND. AND. AND.. he's like the beach babe on the shore, soaking up the sun and reading a book or smth. if you splash him with water, i can see him trying to get you back. then boom bam, hes in the water with everyone else.
OH FUCK that's even IF he goes to the beach. it's like seeing God in the flesh, idk man I'd go blind........... hed probably come along when he realizes theres hot people at the beach. he cant have you looking at people in that state, hold on hes going. give him five minutes..!

Seeing fan discussions about Blue Eye Samurai and especially Mizu's identity is so annoying sometimes. So let me just talk about it real quick.
First off, I have to emphasise that different interpretations of the text are always important when discussing fiction. That's how the whole branch of literary studies came to be, and what literary criticism and analysis is all about: people would each have their own interpretation of what the text is saying, each person applying a different lens or theory through which to approach the text (ie. queer theory, feminist theory, reader response theory, postcolonial theory, etc) when analysing it. And while yes, you can just take everything the authors say as gospel, strictly doing so would leave little room for further analysis and subjective interpretation, and both of these are absolutely necessary when having any meaningful discussion about a piece of media.
With that being said, when discussing Blue Eye Samurai, and Mizu's character in particular, I always see people only ever interpret her through a queer lens. Because when discussing themes of identity, yes, a queer reading can definitely apply, and in Mizu's story, queer themes are definitely present. Mizu has to hide her body and do her best to pass in a cisheteronormative society; she presents as a man 99% of the time and is shown to be more comfortable in men's spaces (sword-fighting) than in female spaces (homemaking). Thus, there's nothing wrong with a queer reading at all. Hell, some queer theorists interpret Jo March from Little Women as transmasc and that's totally valid, because like all analyses, they are subjective and argumentative; you have the choice to agree with an interpretation or you can oppose it and form your own.
To that end, I know many are equally adamant that Mizu is strictly a woman, and that's also also a completely valid reading of the text, and aligns with the canon "Word of God", as the creators' intention was to make her a woman. And certainly, feminist themes in the show are undeniably present and greatly colour the narrative, and Episode 4 & 5 are the clearest demonstrations of this: Mizu's protectiveness of Madame Kaji and her girls, Mizu's trauma after killing Kinuyo, her line to Akemi about how little options women have in life, and the way her husband had scorned her for being more capable than him in battle.
I myself personally fall into the camp of Mizu leaning towards womanhood, so i tend to prefer to use she/her pronouns for her, though I don't think she's strictly a cis woman, so I do still interpret her under the non-binary umbrella. But that's besides my point.
My gripe here, and the thing that spurred me to write this post, is that rarely does this fandom even touch upon the more predominant themes of colonialism and postcolonial identities within the story. So it definitely irks me when people say that the show presenting Mizu being cishet is "boring." While it's completely fine to have your opinion and to want queer rep, a statement like that just feels dismissive of the rest of the representation that the show has to offer. And it's frustrating because I know why this is a prevalent sentiment; because fandom culture is usually very white, so of course a majority of the fandom places greater value on a queer narrative (that aligns only with Western ideas of queerness) over a postcolonial, non-Western narrative.
And that relates to how, I feel, people tend to forget, or perhaps just downplay, that the crux of Mizu's internal conflict and her struggle to survive is due to her being mixed-race.
Because while she can blend in rather seamlessly into male society by binding and dressing in men's clothing and lowering her voice and being the best goddamn swordsman there is, she cannot hide her blue eyes. Even with her glasses, you can still see the colour of her eyes from her side profile, and her glasses are constantly thrown off her face in battle. Her blue eyes are the central point to her marginalisation and Otherness within a hegemonic society. It's why everyone calls her ugly or a monster or a demon or deformed; just because she looks different. She is both white and Japanese but accepted in neither societies. Her deepest hatred of herself stems primarily from this hybridised and alienated identity. It's the whole reason why she's so intent on revenge and started learning the way of the sword in the first place; not to fit in better as a man, but to kill the white men who made her this way. These things are intrinsic to her character and to her arc.
Thus, to refuse to engage with these themes and dismiss the importance of how the representation of her racial Otherness speaks to themes of colonialism and racial oppression just feels tone-deaf to the show's message. Because even if Mizu is a cishet woman in canon, that doesn't make her story any less important, because while you as a white queer person living in the West may feel unrepresented, it is still giving a voice to the stories of people of colour, mixed-race folks, and the myriad of marginalised racial/ethnic/cultural groups in non-Western societies.

Fic: Tales from Tianji Manor
Relationship: Di Feisheng/Fang Duobing/Li Lianhua
Tags: POV He Xiaohui, Post-canon Fix-it, Li Lianhua lives
(read it on ao3!/next)
Tumblr media
He Xiaohui watches the three sleeping men from the doorway, observes the way each of her son's arms are wound tight around the other two men's waists, as if he was afraid that they would be taken from him.
She takes a good look at their faces, the once-feared Demon lord of the Jianghu, and the once-revered prodigy Li Xiangyi lying peacefully on either side of her son, the severe lines on their faces smoothed out by sleep.
Her son had showed up out of the blue one day, moving house and all, with a haggard looking Di Feisheng and an unconscious Li Xiangyi in it. He had proceeded to hole himself up in his room with the former leader of the Jingyuan Alliance and Li Xiangyi, blabbing about saving Li Lianhua before the man escaped, pleading for her to place her most vicious traps outside his room and not let any of them out for the next week.
Bewildered but recognizing the firm expression on her son's face, she had complied, resolving to demand answers from him once the week was up.
And here she was, at the end of the promised seven days, undoing all her mechanisms at the break of dawn to see three innocuous sleeping faces.
He Xiaohui did not know what to make of it.
Her son must have the devil's luck, to have snagged the two most powerful men in the jianghu.
She does not know how she feels about her Fang Xiaobao, the same snot-nosed kid who she once had to make wheeled chairs for, now all grown up and actually dating men nearly a decade older than him.
Li Xiangyi, she at least knew somewhat. She still hasn't forgiven him for those words that pushed her son to the jianghu, made him put himself through all that pain, but she also knew the man named Li Lianhua. What she said that day was genuine. She knew her fool of a son, she knew that he would only get himself scammed, robbed, and killed if it weren't for Li Lianhua.
She remembers how her son had stood resolute in front of Shi Shui and Yun Biqiu, throwing away his lifelong dream just to protect Li Lianhua, how the man in turn, had recognized her Xiaobao for the treasure that he was.
Her Fang Xiaobao had always been one for wearing his heart on his sleeve, giving it away easily.
(It was why she had sent his xiaoyi after him, had advocated for his marriage to the princess to be held as soon as possible, to tie him down before he managed to escape to the jianghu, where he would undoubtedly get hurt a thousand times over.
She should have known that he would inherit his biological mother’s stubbornness).
Di Feisheng, however. She did not know what to make of him. When her Xiaobao came home in a frenzy, Lotus tower in tow, the man had let him discuss matters with her, never once trying to intervene as he played silent sentinel by the side.
She had only met him once, during the fight against Shan Gudao where he helped take down his own Alliance, and noticed the familiar way her Xiaobao addressed him. The easy way Li Xiangyi stood beside him, as if they had not fought to the death ten years ago. The way Di Feisheng had asked Li Xiangyi so tenderly if he wasn't going to chase after her son.
It spoke of something between them, their dynamics between the three of them built during their travels through the jianghu. When had they picked up Di Feisheng, anyway?
All she knew of him was rumours accumulated over the years, painting him a fearsome figure who rose to the top at the mere age of 21 before perishing alongside Li Xiangyi.
And now here they both were, in her Tianji Manor.
Curled up on either side of her son, the gentle rays of dawn made them all look younger than they were, and nothing at all like the three men who undid all of Shan Gudao’s carefully laid plans in one fell swoop.
(The pile of blankets that Di Feisheng and her Xiaobao had wrapped Li Lianhua in were strewn to the side, she notes. She concludes that they managed to cure Li Lianhua, and the relief she feels at that nearly bowls her over).
He Xiaohui scoops up the blankets, turning to take one last look at the three sleeping men before leaving, only to meet Di Feisheng’s quiet stare.
She quirks a hesitant smile at him, which he returns with a nod.
It's a start, she supposed.

“How dare you!”
Wukong’s face is obscured and hidden. From his peripheral he can see red tufts of hair, small and beady eyes staring back at him. His nephew blinks then sticks out his tongue, a weak attempt to threaten him, and Wukong mimics the gesture just the same.
“Get out! Get out or so help me, True Sage,” Iron Fan’s voice pierced through the air, the sound of steel slashing and hitting against itself enough to shake Wukong’s very core. “So help me the Jade Emperor’s bloodline will end with him alone!”
“He’s a tyrant!” Erlang’s voice booms. It’s loud and thundering. Wukong carefully brings his nephew a little closer to him, cradling him against his chest, and coos to keep him quiet and calm. “I need him back. I need him sealed away!”
“Do you? Do you Erlang Shen or are you acting like some loyal dog for a realm that never welcomed you in the first place?”
“Watch your tongue, woman! Don’t speak to me that way—”
“I’ll speak however I want—”
“—if Nezha were here—”
“Do not bring that boy into this!”
Wukong curls up. They’re hiding in a room—possibly Red Son’s—and the blanket is cool and comfortable. It doesn’t feel too warm or too thick. He lets his nephew curl up and cling to him, a low yawn escaping his tiny mouth, and Wukong hums and says, “Don’t worry, Red. It’ll be over soon.”
Iron Fan doesn’t kick him out when the arguing is done and the demigod is nowhere to be found.
She stares at them, asleep and curled up, and closes the door quietly as to not disturb them.
